2 nights ago I did one of the most impulsive things that 47 year old people who have to work the next day don't do- I got a message from a friend who had an extra ticket to see 2 bands I've wanted to see FOREVER, wondering if I wanted to go. So, on a proverbial 'school night', I went and saw Living Colour and Extreme. Extreme was good(and Nuno was Nuno, a serious guitar god), but Living Colour was fantastic. Vernon Reid(also a guitar god) was incredible, and Corey Glover is a powerful front man who still has an incredible voice. And, AND, during their last song-a rocking version of the Clash classic, "Should I stay or should I go", guess who walked through the crowd and rubbed shoulders with me? Corey. Truly a great show, and someday I'd like to see them by themselves. An hour was not enough... but isn't that how it goes with live music?

Thank you universe, I needed that!

An Interesting Title

What a monumental week it's been.

Awful, but monumental.

My best friend introduced me to the whitest band I've ever heard, Bear Ghost, something like six months ago, and I've been a little hung up since. Not obsessed, but they're damn good. Hell, I'll share one of my favorites from them here:

Take a Disney Villain, give them a guitar and a bit of ska, here you go. Bear Ghost. They call themselves 'adventure rock', a genre created by Swedish band Hällas, who play "a blend of progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal inspired by 1970s bands". You know what, I see it, and it fits.

Anyway, they played a show at Madame Lou's in Seattle on Monday, and holy shit were they fun. Honestly way better live than I ever thought they'd be! Their crowd work was impeccable, I loved the way they moved about onstage and dude, their smiles are so fucking warm, it was like being in a sunlit field while they were onstage.

The brought with them a smaller band by the name of Damn the Weather.

Their music is truly beautiful, and I honestly couldn't really explain it, so here's a song from them:

They're tiny right now, and this was their first time on the road, same as Bear Ghost. I couldn't tell you the name of any song they played, but I was enraptured by them during the opening act. They were less bombastic, lower energy, but there was something so incredibly beautiful about that melancholic vibe they brought that not only matched the venue, but served as the perfect palate cleanser prior to the main act taking the stage.

I love them. Please, anyone reading this, give them a listen on Spotify, sub to their YouTube, signal boost the hell out of them!

After the show, the frontman (whose name I have tragically forgotten) was going through the crowd and thanking everyone who would talk to them. I was waiting in line to get some merch signed by the dudes of Bear Ghost, and they walked up, so I told them what I felt:

"Your music was so beautiful, I cried during the violin solo holy shit dude" and they thanked me so much. I offered them a hug, and they took it and started crying, saying "I never thought we'd make it here, I can't even believe this is real." I just kept hugging them and said "You made it baby, you made it and you'll always be welcome back here."

So overall 10/10 show. The venue was perfect, the sound was on point, and the drinks were cheap too! The bands were amazing, and I cannot wait for them to come back.

love the idea that the Volturi collect newspapers from all over the world so they can watch out for rogue vamps. bc they're not out there doing that shit. really, some poor intern/human-wannabe-vamp is just running around sifting through the daily papers like an editorial assistant working the slush pile at a trad publishing company. underpaid, overworked, crying on lunch breaks, chugging cold burnt coffee, desperately trying & failing to unionize, etc.

misha’s good idea show literally had me crying by the end 🥹 like i thought i was gonna be ok to meet him tmrw bc i haven’t gotten starstruck at all yet and i’ve met a few of the actors in the vendors room?? but now i’m thinking about how his mental health journey parallels mine and how his dedication to finding beauty in everything has made ME do that which has subsequently made me far far happier….

one of the last things he talked about was standing in his driveway and looking out on the valley on a beautiful summer day and thinking, “what a lucky life.” and brother i SOBBED

Got to go see one of my favorite artists the other night and I've felt so at peace ever since.

I got to show them my design for my NOTENTIRELYALONE tattoo I plan on getting done, and thank god my friend took some pictures of our interaction.

Matt if you see this I'm so glad I got to meet you and have a genuine conversation with you. The show was great and you're an absolute gem to watch live.

Because of you I worked up the courage to talk to my coworkers and organize a union.
