very UO but if they couldn’t bring back Jake, they should have stuck Peyton and Julian together as endgame over Leyton! Julian and Peyton had already supposedly been in love, they both like cities (LA, NYC etc) and it makes sense they’d live there due to their careers, and both Peyton and Julian for a lot of their time on the series seemed ambivalent about starting a family. Also, Julian is smart and on the introverted side like Lucas but a little goofy like Jake - a combination of the traits Payron goes for! Meanwhile, we saw so clearly in season 5 that Brooke and Lucas both loved being back in one tree hill, they both seem to have jobs they can do anywhere, they both very much prioritize settling down and having a family, they were already unofficially co-parenting Angie, they still have that seemingly effortless and magical connection, they balance each other out perfectly…I could go on!

Honestly, I wouldn't have minded that one bit. First of all, Peyton deserved a million times better than Lucas by the time he finally got around to choosing her. She was lacking any sort of spine or self respect when she ran to that airport. As irritating as I found her character for large stretches of season 5, ultimately she wasn't in the greatest place and only imagined that her happiness could be attainable if she won Lucas back. Now to get back to what you were saying. I definitely think Peyton was better off and would have thrived most living away from Tree Hill in a bigger city where her dreams could really take off. I mean, the show really said that because Peyton wasn't exactly where she wanted to be at age 22 that this made her a failure and retroactively meant her decision not to rush down the aisle at age 19 had been a terrible, awful, shameful mistake. Seasons 6 and 7 Julian would have made a lot of sense as a partner for the ambitious Peyton who had faced so much trauma and pain in her hometown. STRONGLY agreed about your points re: Peyton and Julian being ambivalent and sometimes even negative about settling down in Tree Hill compared to Brooke and Lucas who genuinely loved it there and couldn't imagine raising their families elsewhere. I'm aware every aspect of this was unintentional considering the possibility of a Brucas endgame post season 3 was basically taboo, but in terms of compatibility Brooke/Lucas and Peyton/Julian made the most sense. If we couldn't have Jake back for Peyton, obviously. In the end, Peyton still left Tree Hill, something Lucas never wanted. And Julian settled for staying in Tree Hill for Brooke even though he'd rather be in LA. Relationships are all about compromise, but it's interesting how their situations sort of parallel. You should go on, because I love reading your thoughts! I genuinely think if not for Peyton's continued interest in Lucas and Lucas having an unfortunate history of making the same mistakes over and over again, Lucas would have eventually ended up with Brooke. Season 5 Brucas had such an ease around each other. Their goals lined up perfectly. The chemistry was still there. Their communication was really solid and both went out of their way to emotionally support the other. Maybe it's because the pressure was off considering neither was expressing their feelings, but you see them taking care of Angie and the way Lucas considered proposing to Brooke and instinctively know that they could have had it all. It's really depressing.

“Mommy! Dinner is all done” Brooks says while grabbing my hand and dragging me into the dining room.

“Oh it looks amazing B. Did you do this all yourself?” I inquire, winking at Lance who is setting the table.

“No mommy, Lance helped me!” he shouted

“Oh did he?” I giggled picking Brooks up and kissing him.

“He’s the chef. I just take orders from him” Lance says, placing the bowl of pasta in the middle of the table.

“Well you two did a wonderful job.” I say, giving Brooks another kiss and putting him down.

“We made your favorite just for you” the 4 year old shouted from his place across from me.

“Oh baby you know me sooo well” I giggle at him before Lance pulled me into a side hug.

Tomorrow was our last day all together before Brooks goes to Matt’s for the week and Lance goes to São Paulo and Lance insisted that he would cook for us tonight. It’s been two years since we started dating and it’s been bliss. I was nervous at first because we are both younger and I was recently divorced at only 25. But Lance didn’t care that I was divorced and had a 2 year old. He loved Brooks like his own from the very start. Now we are 27 and 28 living between Nashville and London and I couldn’t be happier. He’s the one that brings out the best in me, always and I do the same for him.

Lance’s voice shook me from my thoughts, “Lemme take your plate y/n”

“Oh thanks, let me do the dishes? You cooked it’s only fair” I plead. The dinner was delicious and he put so much effort into it, I wanted to try to do something to make it up to him.

“It’s okay, let me clean them up. Take Brooks to bed and I’ll be done when you come back down” he insists, shooting down my request.

“Okay, okay. Brooks, baby, let’s go get ready for bed. We have to get up early tomorrow to have breakfast with Chloe and Scotty” I call for the 4 year old.

“Night bud. Sleep well, I’ll see ya in the morning” Lance said, giving him a hug.

“Night night Lance” he says, giving the driver a hug before sprinting up the stairs.

“I’ll be down in a few Lance” I say, following him up the stairs.

After Brooks has finished his routine, I walk to my room and put on a clean pair of pajamas. I notice Lance’s clothes in the hamper, signaling to me he changed while I was putting Brooks to bed.

Sighing, I walk down the stairs and into the den to find Lance scrolling lazily through HBO.

“What do you wanna watch?” I ask when he continued flipping though the show options.

“The Conquest?” He jokingly suggests the show I made an appearance in during the first two seasons.

“Ew no” I laugh at his suggestion. I absolutely hate watching and hearing myself, especially an explicit show like The Conquest.

“Why not? You have some great scenes” he smirked at me, referencing the X-rated scenes that filled the “Game of Thrones” prequel.

“You act like you don’t see the real thing” I roll my eyes as he bursts out laughing.

“I’m only playing, We’ll watch SVU?” Lance settled, pulling me into his arms and turning on our favorite show. 

We watched 3 episodes before calling it a night and settling into our shared bed.

“Are you still okay with hosting Scotty and Chlo tomorrow?” He asks, face lit up by his phone.

“Yes, of course. It’ll be great. I’ll go and pick up the food at 8” I reassure him. I love having Chloe and Scotty at our house. Especially right before everyone leaves for a week.

“Okay babe. I just want everything to be great” he sighs.

“It will be, promise” I say, kissing him and turning out my light.

“Hey!! Food looks amazing y/n!” Scotty shouts, barging into the kitchen with orange juice and champagne in his arms. “I brought what you requested” he said, putting it down and hugging me.

“Thanks Scotty” I say, hugging him back. “Lance and Brooks are setting up in the sunroom” stretching my hand out to point towards where they resided.

“Hi girl!! You look amazing” Chloe’s voice replaces Scotty’s.

“Hi honey” I say, hugging her. “Do you want a drink? The boys are out back.” I offer her a mimosa to start the day off.

“Oh yeah, I love how you make them” she giggled, popping the top off the champagne as I grabbed four flutes.

I made four mimosas for the adults and an orange juice for Brooks, before heading into the back yard. It was gorgeous out there. Lance had arranged the back yard to look like we were in paradise. Lights were up around the porch, the new backyard furniture was set up around a new table he had ordered and candles were lit up, despite it being 11 am.

After I set the drinks out we all went back to get the food we had ordered and prepared and arranged the table.

Our brunch was amazing. The love I have for Chloe and Scotty is unmatched. Watching Scotty chase Brooks around the yard while Lance, Chloe, and I talk future vacations fills me with so much joy. I can’t believe what I have gained in the past two years. Chloe has told me before that she’d never seen Lance like this before he met me….that sent me into tears. I just can’t imagine where I’d be without them.

“Mmh… If I may, I’d like to make a toast�� Scotty’s voice rang through the yard and glancing over I see him. Standing at the head of the table, Brooks on his shoulders with orange juice to match Scotty’s mimosa.

“Eh let’s here it” Lance chimes up, his arms pull me down next to him.

“Not much but you guys are the fucking best. I-..”

“Scott”, Chloe chastised him.

“Oh shit sorry… hey Brooksy earmuffs man” he stumbles, Brooks doing as he says so as to not here the words that are most used in Scotty’s vocabulary.

“As I was saying….You guys are the fucking best. We absolutely love coming to visit you both here and I think Chloe agrees when I say you two are a fucking pair” he finished his toast but chugging the mimosa in his hand and tapping Brooks to signal his hands could come off his ears.

“Aww thanks Scotty, we love you guys too. I’m so so happy you guys travel to come see us whenever you can. Lance and I are so lucky to have you both.” I say, tears beginning to prick at my eyes. Yes I know I’m emotional…whatever.

I feel Lance’s hand release mine as he stands up. “Well since we’re on the topic of toasts… I’ll give it a go. Yeah?” He speaks, looking to everyone.

“Okay so obviously I want to thank Scotty and Chlo for stopping in Nashville for the day before going to São Paulo, it means a lot. To the both of us” he starts, motioning between us. “Uh.. next I want to thank Brooks for being the kindest and greatest kid I’ve ever met. You are such a good son, friend, and all around kid. And of course I’ve gotta thank you y/n. Before I met you I was a 26 year old that didn’t care about much. But since I met you I care about everything and more. You are such a good mom and a total badass all around. Everyday I see you use things you’ve learned before and put them into lessons for us to learn. You have such a fucking brillant mind and I love when I wake up in the middle of the night to find you playing the piano or writing a new song. You are and will always be everything I’ve ever wanted and needed. I told you a while back that you were my endgame….”

I thought my heart exploded during his toast but hearing the word “endgame” made it stop. I remember that night in Austin a year ago. He told me he wasn’t going to ask then but it was coming. Now I think it’s here.

“Will you marry me y/n?” He said, down on one knee ring shining up at me.

I’m frozen in my spot. I keep trying to talk and nothing is coming out. I already know the answer and I think he does too.

My voice finally returns to me. “Of course I will” I utter, the tears once pricking at my eyes fulling falling down my face.

Emma stared in horrified disbelief at the calm waters that had only moments before been a swirling portal which had swallowed up Greg, Tamara and Henry.  The panic threatened to drown her.  Not only did she have no way to get to her son, no way to save him, she didn’t even know where he’d gone.

Oh God, what was she going to do?  What was she going to do?

So far today, they’d discovered Regina missing and found her in the cannery, Tamara had killed Neal and then sent him through a portal to who knows where, Regina had dropped the bomb about the failsafe that was about to literally kill them all, Hook had returned to help them, Hook had screwed them over, she and Regina had stopped the failsafe, Henry had been kidnapped and dragged through a portal by a pair of psycho idiots, and now she, her parents, Regina, Gold and Belle stood at the dock looking out to sea without the first clue what to do next.

So basically your average Tuesday in Storybrooke.

Why couldn’t they ever get a break?  Ever?

“What is that?” Emma looked up at Belle’s question and followed her finger pointing out to sea.

Her stomach swooped and her heart raced as she saw the tell-tale sails and rigging of the Jolly Roger. “Hook,” she said, feeling hope for the first time in hours.

He was coming back to them, coming back to her.

Hook had changed alliances so frequently in the time that she’d known him that it nearly gave her whiplash.  She should write him off completely.  What kind of a fool trusted someone like that?

But she’d been speaking the truth when she confronted him back in the diner an hour ago.  “You and I, we understand each other.  Look out for yourself and you’ll never get hurt.”  She knew him.  She understood.  She’d known from the moment they climbed the beanstalk together that he was a good man who had lost his way after who knows how many tragedies.

He was a villain by circumstance, not by nature, and she knew he could turn away from the dark side if only he opened himself to become a part of something.

A part of something with her?

Emma mentally shook herself as the ship pulled into the dock and Hook slowly limped his way down the gangplank.  No.  She could trust him to help them find Henry, but she knew better than to trust him with her heart.

Even if she’d instinctively felt she could and wanted to ever since the beanstalk.

“I thought you didn’t care about anyone but yourself,” she said, her tone deliberately biting.

He looked deeply into her eyes as he placed the magic bean in her hand.  She saw his earnestness, the absolute sincerity in his cerulean eyes.  “Maybe I just needed reminding that I could.”

There was that swoop of her stomach again, the leap of her heart.  She ruthlessly pushed the attraction aside as she followed him onto the ship.  There would be plenty of time to think all of this through once they had Henry back safe and sound. (Well…maybe not plenty of time; knowing this town, they’d have approximately forty-five minutes before the next crisis.)

For now all that mattered was finding her son.

• Michael Barrett who is now student president of PCA secretly approves incoming freshmen to extend curfew at the “welcome to upper school beach bash.” This leads Dustin finding himself in a pickle when he hits it off with a transfer student without being aware he’s been talking to twins! • Zoey Lola and Quinn have a girls night in, only for Zoey to sneak out with Ty while his roommates are out.

• Ending scene goes back to England where Dana and Chase are in his room catching up on life. They kiss, the episode ends.

Plot A: Things between Logan and Quinn have been nothing but amazing, until the week of required sex education. One’s curious while the other wants to but is deep down nervous.

Plot B: Lola has been hiding her early acceptance into Juliard. What happens when Vince finds out before she tells him?

Plot C: Chase tell’s Michael about his senior fling with Dana, but swears it remains between the 2 of them.

Plot A: Zoey Brooks is the girl who has it all together. Everyone goes to her, she’s that “it” girl, and guys would kill to be her plus 1! This years been turned upside down. As I said, this is all strictly fictional and in no way real. I plan on doing episodes 7-14 at some point but I wanted to connect this with the sequel as best as possible. How else would Danielle have known about Dana? I think if Chase returned to Covington, and Dana studying over seas is a fair connection 😉

I don’t really want to add any real drama between Logan and Quinn as they lasted 15 years…this is more about them navigating their new chapter as a teenage couple. The drama is all saved for Zoey. And adding a new male character (I used to love Owen Milligan on Degrassi) who’s more of an escape rather than a love interest spices things up!

As much as I loved Micheal and Lisa I think like many teenage boys, it’s fair to have him make a big error over the summer and have to learn from it. (He definitely had a fling with a random French girl while doing a summer program). Lisa still thrived and is the sweet boss she is though 😉 plus his time to shine is seen all over campus as the student president!

Dustin…he’s gonna have to figure this one or two out. Lol.

Lola and Vince don’t last, but that’s okay because they kinda had their time to shine season 4 and are headed separate ways.

Stacey and Mark are strictly side characters who pop up quite a bit throughout the season.

I do think that daniel IS s5′s biggest problem, if you want to have a villain that brings the highest stakes EVER in your story then you gotta show how menacing and true their actions are for their goal. All daniel did is what? he’s just standing with his stupid tablet and bossing people that worked for him. I think those scenes where he’s trying to gaslight kenji is pretty good, but honestly tho they could’ve been better. The scene in the finale when kenji called him out is imo THE BEST (when he stood up from his dad yk) scene the writers ever did to kenji and his dad. THIS should’ve happened in idk ep 4 or 5??? i wanted kenji to talk about why his dad didn’t even bother to get kenji to mantah corp island and my god why the hell it has to happen in he finale???

thing is i think kenji and his dad’s conflict was stretched wayyy too far (kinda gives me brookenji vibes tbh) and this brings me to talk about yassamy, darius-kenji duo, the core arc, and why kenji and his dad’s conflict should’ve treated just like these arcs

YASAMMY : These two aweee, this season got so many of their moments together even before they’re official which gotta admit made me scared if they’d ended up as “queerbait” but god ep 9 made me relieved lmao. Anyway anyway, it only took 3 episodes for yaz and sammy being canon. In ep 6 the way yaz look at sammy? i know it’s been like that even before this episode but i think it’s a nice build up to what happens next. In ep 7 yaz actually opened up on her feelings about sammy, then ep 9 yaz FINALLY said those feelings to sammy (AND BEN BEING BEST BOI OMG which i’ll talk about later haha). I don’t feel like it’s rushed or “came out of nowhere” cause their friendship-to-relationship has exist since s1, i feel like yaz and sammy totally earned it. The best thing is this happened before the finale, there’s time to develop their affection to each other and i love that

DARIUS-KENJI DUO : so darius was like repressing his emotions when kenji and his dad locked him and the others in that chamber. When brook asked his opinion abt kenji he literally stated he doesn’t care (which holy shit broke my heart-), this happened in ep 4 and then in ep 5 he got a heart-to-heart talk with brook and able to express his anger and sadness for kenji, then took a pretty long time skip to ep 11 he finally able to breakdown all those sadness towards kenji himself. This arc only took 3 eps the same as yasammy’s, at least there’s a room to breathe for this duo’s character development in the finale tho

THE CORE : idk i think i need to rewatch the whole stuff again cause man i don’t understand what this thing meant for the island, i mean is this what turned isla nublar’s volcano?? not only mantah corp’s island that has an earthquake but it affects isla nublar too tho. Anyway the first sign of danger was at ep 4 or 5 with the earthquake, i forgot what eps when the kids needed to shut down this thing but whatever that is it got resolved in 3 or 4 eps. I’d rather have this one as the main threat tho, cause again i prefer natural threat than human’s but eh

okay so comparing these arcs to kenji and his father’s the best way to have their conflict keep going on till the finale is to have different conflicts, ex build it with kenji talking about why his dad never came to pick him (and his friends) after jurassic world then his dad gaslighting him, then him trusting his father to doubt it, then finally snap at his bs. I think these could work? just don’t stand in only one conflict yknow cause again, it felt too far stretched

And here are some bunch of stuff that i dislike other than daniel kon as a villain from this season :

Mae being sidelined, i love her in season 4 but i really feel like her character is kinda wasted in here. How she’s just turning against camp fam in order to protect them is kindaaaa meh, this has something to do with daniel as the villain tho. Like he doesn’t feels or seems like he’d hurt the kiddos and it’s proven by the others only getting locked up in a chamber. Sure he tried to kill darius with spino but like.....this happened in ep 12, THE LITERAL FINALE. So what’s the point right? anywy seriously mae decided to cross her line with helping daniel controlling those dinos kinda showed that she didn’t trust what the kids are able to do.

Brand, dave, and roxie also being sidelined, WHEN I SAW THEM I GOT LITERAL TEARS. MY PARENTS THEY’RE BACK AAAAA!!!! and yet....i got so little of them in here. Them being separated from the main conflict didn’t help either, i wanted them to fight side by side with the kids. Dave and roxie are their camp counselors anyway, they need some heart to heart talk with the kids!

The investors? i literally don’t fucking care about them. I’m happy that they got eaten tho. 

Nothosaurus whatever that called, i wish there’s an explanation on why that thing’s there. And like so close with the core thingy? just why? what if something goes wrong w it and someone tried to fix it, like what camp fam did actually

Anyway ben being such a fangirl for them plssss I LOVE HIM SO MUCH IN THAT EXACT MOMENT. Plus he’s so supportive aweee, i just love him being a huge yasammy shipper i swear lmao. And then him reuniting with bumpy UGH- knowing that bumpy got chipped and was mind controlled I CAN’T AAAAAAAA.

Darius and brooklynn’s friendship is just sooooo soft aweee, i’m glad that darius could just....spill his burden with brooklynn yk? i’m actually sad that he still did stuff solo but at least with him letting those burdens out made me satisfied with this season

I mean, it's not as bad as T9S, because Jay would have to be born in season 7, and the creators definitely knew he would've had to been born during the duration of the show, so they just replaced Betsy (and Brooke) with him. But T7S's timeline is still a hot mess, and it's mostly due to season 1. Too much time passed in that season, and it was before the gang was awkwardly aged down.

But once again, the awkward aging down is still not as bad as T9S, where they tried to age the gang up to be 36-38, to somehow extend the passage of time. But that would make the gang...well, not teenagers, in the late 70s.

Continuity sometimes sucks on Degrassi, but it has nothing on That 70s Show…

Hey! So, I’ve been working on this for a while. I’ve read so many good Hyde/Jackie stories, and I feel like it’s a waste not to share them.

I tried to separate everything in categories, but some fics fit in more than one category and honestly it was just a mess. So I've separated them the best way that I could. I’m going to post the categories separately, and after I’m done I’ll make a masterpost with links to each of the categorized posts, as suggested by @springsteenicious and @those70scomics (thank you both for the help!).

Even though this is only one category, it’s still a long post, as I’ve said before, I’ve read many fanfics. I don’t know if I should edit this and add more stories as they’re out (for instance, I have a post season 8 story that I’m planning on posting soon) or if I should just leave things this way. My Top 10 Underrated Anime Series

1. Welcome to the NHK

Plot: The main protagonist is Tatsuhiro Satō, a university dropout entering his fourth year of unemployment. He leads a reclusive life as a hikikomori, ultimately coming to the conclusion that this happened due to some sort of conspiracy. One day just when his life seems entirely unchanging, he meets Misaki Nakahara, a mysterious girl who claims to be able to cure Tatsuhiro of his hikikomori ways. She presents him with a contract basically outlining that once a day they would meet in the evening in a local park where Misaki would lecture to Tatsuhiro in an effort to rid him of his lifestyle. During these outings, many subjects are discussed, though they almost always pertain in some way to psychology or psychoanalysis. One of their first meetings in fact deals with interpreting Tatsuhiro's recent dreams. Both Tatsuhiro and Misaki, however, have a tendency of over-doing things, such as hiding the truth, especially from each other and themselves. Despite Misaki's offer and pressing attempts at salvation, it is Tatsuhiro's neighbor and high school friend, Kaoru Yamazaki, whom Tatsuhiro often turns to in moments of need and support. Despite his own idiosyncrasies, Yamazaki is one of the more stable characters in the story.

While many may not know about this series, those who do know of its existence can see it’s appeal. This anime shows that some people, like the main character, are shut-in’s due to social anxiety holding them back from living a regular life. The anime deals with subjects such as social anxiety, hiding depression from loved ones, paranoia, and a crippling fear of never being accepted by the outside world. 

Throughout the series, Sato tries to go outside more often and is pushed to do this by a high school girl, Misaki, and his old classmate now neighbor, Kaoru. All the while, Sato meets some people from his past who cause him to go down a different path, such as becoming part of a ponzi scheme or joining a suicide group, because they themselves have problems that he unknowingly becomes a part of. This goes to show that if you have struggles with batting depression or have family problems...seek proper help before bringing others down with you.

2. Tiger & Bunny

Plot: The series takes place in "NC 1978" in a fictional, re-imagined version of New York City called Stern Bild City, where 45 years before, superpowered individuals known as "NEXT" (an acronym standing for Noted Entities with eXtraordinary Talents) started appearing and some of them became superheroes. Each of the city's most famous superheroes work for a sponsor company and their uniforms also contain advertising for real-life companies. Their heroic activity is broadcast on the popular television show "Hero TV", where they accumulate points for each heroic feat accomplished (arresting criminals or saving civilians, for example) and the best ranked hero of the season is crowned "King of Heroes". The story mainly focuses on veteran hero Kotetsu T. Kaburagi, a.k.a. Wild Tiger, who is assigned a new partner: a young man named Barnaby Brooks, Jr. However, Barnaby and Kotetsu have trouble working together, as they have conflicting opinions on how a superhero should act, while at the same time they are trying to crack the mystery of the murder of Barnaby's parents. In addition, the appearance of a homicidal vigilante NEXT named "Lunatic" stirs up the public and makes them question the place of heroes in the city. 

The main heroes, Kotetsu and Barnaby, do not like each other at first...but a strong bond grows between them as they protect the city and help each other from the tragic moments of their pasts. They even help each other with the problems that they face within the series’ current timeline: Kotetsu slowly losing his powers, and Barnaby being manipulated by someone who he thought of like family. 

While not as big as My Hero Academia, this series still has lots of good moments, terrific super heroes, and powerful storylines. Tiger & Bunny is definitely worth watching for anyone who loves superheroes and anime.

3. My Roommate Is A Cat

Plot: Novelist Subaru Mikazuki, who is shy and not good with other people, and Haru, the cat that has been living a severe stray life. This is a story of them suddenly living together and describes the happiness of living together from both point of views.

This series is definitely underrated. My Roommate is a Cat is filled shows how much of an impact a person...or in this case a cat...can have on a person who has lived a life of solitude and books. The main character, Subaru Mikazuki, begins to slowly open up to those around him thanks to the help of a stray cat: Haru. From Haru’s point of view, Subaru is someone whom she desires to protect and take care of, as she fears that he cannot survive without her. Subaru also comes to term with his parents’ deaths and learns to move past his guilt, and realizes that there are many people who love and care for him.

This series shows that it’s ok to open up to the people around you, and that no one is truly alone.

4. And Yet The Town Moves

Plot: Hotori Arashiyama loves mysteries, but there’s one she just can’t solve: why does the solution to one problem inevitably seem to lead to another? Like how when Hotori has to start working at the Seaside Maid Cafe after school to pay off a debt and her friend Toshiko fortunately knows exactly how a Maid Cafe should be run. Which is fortunate since Hotori has no clue. Except that, unfortunately, Toshiko has no interest in working at the cafe—until she discovers that Hotori’s childhood friend Hiroyuki is a regular. Which SEEMS fortunate. Except that Hotori doesn’t know that, while Toshiko likes Hiroyuki, Hiroyuki secretly likes Hotori, while Hotori secretly has a crush on… No, no more spoilers!But if that’s not enough drama, there’s work, angst with a certain math teacher, table tennis between her classmates, her younger brother versus the school’s bad girl… And yet, even though everything seems like it’s going to crash at any moment, somehow Hotori’s life keeps going hilariously forward.

Sure...it doesn’t have sexy and cute maids that most maid-theme anime has... But And Yet The Town Moves is still a series worth watching. The series features cute, slice-of-life storylines filled with antics by the mystery-loving Hotori Arashiyama. Because of her crazy antics and goofy nature, Hotori brings laughter and new experiences to those around her. 

If you want an anime featuring klutzy maids and funny slice of life, then And Yet The Town Moves is definitely the right choice. 

5. Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!

Plot: Midori Asakusa wants to create an anime, but she's too disheartened to make that first step by herself. By pure chance, she meets Tsubame Mizusaki, an up-and-coming socialite secretly dreaming of becoming an animator. Together with Midori's money-loving best friend Sayaka Kanamori, the energetic trio start the "Eizouken" club and slowly work towards making their "greatest world" a reality.

This anime is truly a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! has animation that is truly breathtaking and filled with the imaginations of aspiring animators. Throughout the series, our three protagonists: Midori, Sayaki, Tsubame experience the hardships of running their own studio, all the while dealing with the Student Council and School Board who wish to shut down Eizouken. But no matter how hard they try, there is no stopping these three girls from making anime and running their studio. 

Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! has such brilliant animation, creative storylines, and normal looking characters who viewers can relate to. If your dream is to become an animator, than you certainly learn a lot from this series.

6. Angels of Death

Plot: 13-year old Rachel awakens to find herself trapped in the basement of an abandoned building. Without any memories, or even a clue as to where she could be, she wanders the building, lost and dizzy. In her search, she comes across a man covered in bandages. He introduces himself as Zack and he wields a grim-reaper like sickle.A strange bond is struck between them, strengthened by strange, crazy promises…These two, trapped in this strange building, don’t know why fate has placed them there. But they will work together desperately to find a way out…

Rachel and Zack are quite an unlikely duo...yet their skills and personalities are what complete each other: Rachel is calm and calculating, while Zack is aggressive and strong. But they have something in common: They both suffered their whole lives, became killers, and being killers is what got them trapped in the mysterious building in the first place. Together, they face various serial killers who want to keep them from escaping: A doctor with an eye fetish, a pumpkin-headed child who wants to bury Rachel in his graveyard, a female-prison warden who’s obsessed with punishing ‘sinners’, and a faithless priest whose goal is to test the faith of those who fall victim to the killers within the building. 

Angels of Death is filled with such mystery and psychological thrills. While it is not for the faint of heart...it is definitely for those who wish to find a good psychological thriller to watch.

7. Zombieland Saga

Plot: In the year 2008, high school student Sakura Minamoto is abruptly killed by a truck on the morning she plans to submit an idol application. Ten years later, Sakura, along with six "legendary" girls from various eras of Japan's history, are brought back as zombies by a man named Kotaro Tatsumi, who seeks to revitalize Saga Prefecture by putting together an all-zombie idol group known as Franchouchou.

Unlike most ‘pop idol’ anime series, that feature cute girls whose music can save the world...this one features cute girls who are zombies who were brought back to life to save a city as a pop idol group. While it seems unusual, Zombieland Saga shows the viewers all the things that Saga has to offer...because it basically advertises the entire prefecture. The members of Franchouchou: Sakura, Saki, Ai, Junko, Lily, Yugiri, and Tae...are determined to become a great idol group while keeping their true identities a secret. Thanks to their mysterious manager, Kotaro Tatsumi, they are given a second chance at life and learn more about each other...but they also help each other move on from their deaths and give closure to the loved ones that they had to leave behind. 

If you are looking for a ‘pop idol girl’ anime that is different from others...then Zombieland Saga is definitely a good choice, as it does differ from the usual plots that anime featuring pop idol groups has.

8. Mitsuboshi Colors

Plot: Set in Ueno. The series follows three elementary school girls, Yui, Sat-chan, and Kotoha, who together form an organization known as "Colors". Together, they perform various deeds and errands to protect the peace in their town.

This series is very adorable and is filled with a lot of hilarity. What makes it hilarious, are the crazy antics of the crybaby Yui, the rambunctious Sat-chan, and the dark-humored Kotoha as they try to help others and maintain the peace in the town that they love so much. They recieve help from local shop owner, Pops, who gives them clues to solve, and are often coming into conflict with police officer Saito, who sees them as nothing but trouble while dealing with their childish antics. 

Mitsuboshi Colors really does make you want to go to the real Ueno in Japan, and see all the shops featured within this series.

9. Lovely Muco

Plot: The series depicts the life of the pet dog Muco and his owner Komatsu, who lives in his glass-making workshop in the mountains.

Lovely Muco shows life through the eyes of Muco, a shiba inu who lives in a mountain town with her owner, Komatsu, who works as a glass blower. Muco is an energetic dog who finds everything around her fascinating. Muco loves Komatsu more than anything in the world, who gives her lots of love in return. Muco also interacts with other people such as Komatsu’s long-time friend, Ushikou-san, bar owner Bouda and his energetic daughter Rena. 

Lovely Muco shows the viewer how the world looks through the eyes of a dog, and what goes through their curious minds.

10. Chi’s Sweet Home

Plot: A grey and white kitten with black stripes wanders away from her mother and siblings one day while enjoying a walk outside with her family. Lost in her surroundings, the kitten struggles to find her family and instead is found by a young boy, Youhei, and his mother. They take the kitten home, but, as pets are not allowed in their housing complex, they try to find her a new home. This proves to be difficult, and the family decides to keep the kitten. While being housebroken, the kitten mistakenly answers to "Chi" (as in shi- from shikko, the Japanese word for "urine") and this becomes her name. Chi then lives with her new family, learning about different things and meeting new people and animals.

This series is filled with so much love and cuteness that it could give you diabetes. Chi’s New Home shows viewers how the world looks through the eyes young kitten ‘Chi’, as she grows to love her human family and makes new friends along the way. Chi and her family love each other greatly, and cannot imagine living without each other.

Chi’s Sweet Home shows us just how important family is, and how a new member of one’s family can bring so much love and joy into one’s life.

12 Christmas Films of a Century Past

For some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to watch somewhere around 50 Christmas and Christmas-adjacent silent films from before 1920 to put together a playlist for you all. So, I hope you enjoy!

I chose these twelve as a representative selection. My general criteria were:

Christmas should be central to the story

The plot should be novel to a modern viewer or something a modern viewer would be surprised to see so early on film

The list on the whole should have a variety of settings and narrative structures

Two quick presentation notes: 1. Some of the videos have music and some don’t, so you may want to check your volume level. 2. The intertitles for some of these films are not in English, so be sure you have captions turned on for English translations.

1. Santa Claus (1898) (UK)

Directed by George Albert Smith

Short and sweet, this film sees children put to bed by their nanny on Christmas Eve and Santa Claus coming down the chimbley to fill their dutifully hung stockings. Director G.A. Smith used his own patented technique of double exposure to show Santa’s arrival without cutting away from the children’s room. Santa Claus might not pack the punch of a Méliès trick film, but it’s a fun novelty and is purportedly the first appearance of Santa Claus on film.

2. The Little Match Seller (1902) (UK)

Directed by James Williamson

This one’s quick but effective adaptation of the Hans Christian Anderson tragedy featuring impressively well-coordinated superimpositions.

3. The Christmas Angel (1904) (FR)

Directed by George Méliès for Star Film Company

The Christmas Angel follows an impoverished girl driven into the city to beg on a snowy winter night. First she’s chased away from a church by more seasoned beggars; then she’s thrown out of a poultry seller and harassed by police. On the verge of falling asleep in the snow, a rag-and-bone man rouses her and offers her help. Later, the girl passes out beside a road but is luckily spotted by a wealthy couple on a car ride. When they learn of her plight, they bring her home along with food and gifts.

Though not as fantastical as some of Méliès’ more famous works, The Christmas Angel is still highly stylized (and stylish) and features special effects that photograph beautifully. It’s also worth noting that the version of the film included here is the American cut. The original French cut, titled Détresse et Charité (Distress and Charity), did not include the sequence with the wealthy couple and instead ends with the girl dying in the snow.

4. The Night Before Christmas (1905) (US)

Directed by Edwin S. Porter for Edison Manufacturing Company

This is the first time the poem “Twas the Night Before Christmas” was put on film. Loosely following the poem, we see Santa Claus prepare for his yearly trek while a middle-class family prepares for his visit. When Santa heads out, we are treated to an extended panning sequence with a fully painted backdrop for a mini Santa and his reindeer to glide across. When Santa arrives at the family home, he chaotically dumps presents and decorations around their living room and makes a large, decorated tree appear out of thin air. (Across many of the movies I watched to put this post together, this seems to be a favored scenario for the jolly fat man around this time–and it’s delightful.) The family then wakes to find their gifts and the film closes with Santa directly wishing us a Merry Christmas.

5. A Little Girl Who Did Not Believe in Santa Claus (1907) (US)

Directed by J. Searle Dawley and Edwin S. Porter for Edison Manufacturing Company

Even at the risk of this list being too Edison heavy, I couldn’t leave this great short out. While walking with his mother, a rich little boy encounters a poor little girl alone in the cold. They take her home to play and warm up. When the boy learns that the girl doesn’t believe in Santa because apparently Santa doesn’t visit poor children, he hatches a scheme. On Christmas Eve, the boy has a stake out near the fireplace and takes Santa hostage, tying him up and holding him at gunpoint. The boy then forces Santa to visit the girl–going so far as shimmying down the chimney himself to let Santa in the front door. When the girl wakes up to a beautifully decorated tree, new toys, and a full stocking, she can finally believe in Santa Claus. While I’m generally not so into stories about supposedly benevolent rich people, I do love the implications this story has on how Santa Claus works and I also find the means with which the boy gets his way hilarious.

6. Il Natale di Cretinetti / Foolshead’s Christmas (1909) (IT)

Directed by Andre Deed for Itala Film

This entry is a three-for, which I hope you’ll excuse, but I couldn’t decide which Cretinetti Christmas to share! Cretinetti, the comedic persona of filmmaker Andre Deed, is an absolute agent of chaos.

In the 1909 film, Cretinetti attempts to bring a tree home for a Christmas party. The destruction escalates wildly, culminating in an entire building falling to pieces.

If you can believe it, the stakes are even higher in the 1910 film, when Cretinetti can’t resist sneaking out of bed on Christmas Eve to snack on the candy decorating the tree. When Santa sees what Cretinetti has done, he chides him and takes him back to his workshop, which is apparently in heaven. Destruction ensues. Cretinetti then proceeds to cause havoc for Saint Peter, annoying god so much that he calls the devil to come get Cretinetti. Cretinetti is then chased to hell where demons try to cook him alive. Thankfully, spoiler alert, it was all a bad dream and he wakes up on Christmas morning with a terrible stomach ache.

The 1911 film returns to localized chaos. Cretinetti has a run-in with a mail carrier and his Christmas packages get mixed up with one of the carrier’s parcels. The parcel contains three bottles of ether which then begin to emit gasses in the middle of the family Christmas party.

I wasn’t familiar with Cretinetti before reviewing films for this list, but I’m definitely going to seek out more of Deed’s movies. Each of these films had well-executed chaotic slapstick; over-the-top in all the right ways.

7. Making Christmas Crackers (1910) (UK)

Produced by Cricks & Martin Films for Clarke, Nickolls, & Coombs Confectionery

To start, if you’re not sure what a Christmas cracker is, it’s a colorfully decorated paper tube that makes a cracking noise as you pull it open. Inside the tube is a paper hat, a joke, and/or a small toy. It’s a traditional part of UK Christmas celebrations.

This short starts as a documentary of the workers at Clarke, Nickolls, & Coombs constructing the crackers. It’s a fun thought that as early as 1910, people were interested in watching how mass-produced consumer goods were made. It’s also fun to see these skilled workers ply their trade so deftly (even though I’m sure wages and working conditions were less than ideal). The film ends with a family celebrating around a Christmas tree topped with a functional giant cracker.

8. A Christmas Carol (1910) (US)

Directed by J. Searle Dawley for Edison Films Manufacturing Company

There are so so so many film adaptations of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol made before 1920 that it was hard to choose which one to include on this list. In the end I chose this 1910 version for its economy of storytelling, fluid use of special effects, and for Marc McDermott’s great performance as Scrooge.

9. Broncho Billy’s Christmas Dinner (1911) (US)

Directed by Gilbert M. Anderson (Broncho Billy) for The Essanay Film Manufacturing Company

Gilbert M. Anderson was an incredibly prolific and popular filmmaker and star of early American film, particularly in his role as Broncho Billy. As was typical for Anderson, he’s pulling triple duty on Broncho Billy’s Christmas Dinner as the star, director, and producer. The film features a simple and heartwarming story.

On Christmas, Billy comes across a young woman in peril as her horses got startled and are now pulling her cart along wildly. Billy manages to wrangle the horses and in gratitude she invites him to Christmas dinner at her parents’ home. Unfortunately, her father happens to be the sheriff. But, all is well, as it turns out that Broncho Billy’s been given a pardon and the sheriff welcomes him to the table gladly.

The enduring appeal of outlaws or criminals getting into the Christmas spirit is fascinating to me and it’s cool to see such an early instance of the story!

10. Le Noel de la princesse / The Little Princess’s XMas Gift (1911) (FR)

In all honesty, this is the least Christmassy of all the films I included here, but its style and novelty stood out. The sets, costuming, and production design are lush. It might also be one of the weirdest Christmas stories I’ve even encountered.

After Lord Othberg passes away, the conniving Otto plans to assassinate the baby prince in order to inherit the lordship himself. He poisons the baby, but the princess prays for her baby brother to come back to life as her Christmas gift. An angel appears to her and they summon Jesus, who resurrects her baby brother. Of course, they then place the revivified baby in the castle’s nativity scene, to the joy of all but Otto.

11. Ida’s Christmas (1912) (US)

Directed by Van Dyke Brooke for Vitagraph Company of America

With a more classic Christmassy story, Ida’s Christmas tells us of a family who are facing hard times. Ida (played by a very small Dolores Costello) has her eyes on a pricey doll. Meanwhile, her mother seeks out employment with a wealthy family. The matriarch of the wealthy family overhears Ida’s wish and decides to buy the doll for her as a surprise. Later, Ida is distraught to find that the doll has been purchased but comes across a wallet that someone has dropped. She considers taking the money, but chases down the owner instead. The old man gives her some reward money for returning the wallet. Ida rushes to see if she can buy the doll, but has second thoughts when she thinks about how much her family could use the money. She arrives home with the money just in time for a Santa-esque old man to show up bearing packages and an assurance that the wealthy family has work for her father. The film ends with the family celebrating an unexpectedly Merry Christmas.

It’s a sweet story that hits so many beats of what we now consider traditional Christmas tales.

12. Rozhdestvo obitateley lesa / The Insect’s Christmas (1913) (RU)

Directed by Władysław Starewicz for Khanzhonkov

Fair warning, if you thought The Princess’s XMas Gift was odd, you might need to ready yourself for this one. Stop-motion virtuoso Władysław Starewicz (Ladislas Starevich) spins a tale about a tiny ornament of Santa/Ded Moroz coming to life on Christmas and going out into the wild to bring Christmas joy to creatures small and smaller, including a frog and a ladybug. Starewicz’s animation is as impeccable as ever and the short is imaginative and quirky.

A/N: This is the first mini series I’ve ever written and I am so nervous about it! This is set in book 2 chapter 1, after the mess at the coronation takes place. MC has been stuck at Ramsford doing her daily lessons with the Beaumont brothers. Some cannon but mostly went left with this!

A/N2: Liam’s social season lasted about 5 months. He and MC had been carrying on their relationship since the beginning, they just had to do this in secret.

Ella and Liam walked into her bedroom and shut the door. They faced each other and began talking at the same time.

“Ella-“

“Liam-“

“Oh, I’m sorry!” They both said and giggled nervously.

“You came here to talk,” Ella said quietly. “You go.”

Liam cleared his throat and nodded. “After our talk the other day, I ended my engagement with Madeleine. Your words just kept running through my mind, Ella. I spoke with her last night and my father this morning. He was … less than pleased with me. But, I told him I didn’t care about protocol, the council or whatever his other excuses were.” He met her gaze, her eyes glistened in the afternoon sunlight that streaked through the window. “I told him you were … are my choice. You were always my choice Ella.” Liam paused, feeling his emotions getting the better of him. His eyes stung and that all too familiar lump in his throat was making it difficult for him to continue. He took a small step towards her and looked into her eyes that were full to the brim with tears.

“Ella,” he whispered. “I know my actions the last few weeks have been …” he trailed off, a tear slid down his cheek and he sniffled. “I just want you to know I never meant to hurt you, I never meant to make you feel like I didn’t love you. I just wanted to keep you safe; I hate that I wasn’t there for you at Applewood when Tariq …” his jaw clenched and his hands balled into fists.

Ella stepped forward and cupped his cheeks gently. He quickly put his hands over hers. “Liam, what happened at Applewood wasn’t your fault.” Both of them had tears falling freely. “That was Tariq, and only Tariq.”

She took a deep breath in. “But, I want to tell you Liam, ever since the night of the coronation I felt like I wasn’t enough, like I was disposable to you.” She looked into his eyes and she saw the pain in them as she spoke. “Then I didn’t hear from you or any of our friends for weeks … silence speaks volumes Liam.”

“I wish I was able to explain sooner so you didn’t think those things, love,” Liam murmured. “That is so far from the truth.” He used his thumb to brush away her tears. “I am so, so sorry. I will never be able to express just how sorry I am.”

Liam leaned down slowly and brushed his lips over hers. He felt her begin to kiss him back and he deepened it; a lingering, passionate kiss that made his head spin. He pulled back and looked into her eyes. “Please come home with me, Ella. I need you, I choose you … I love you. It will always be you.”

Ella smiled up at him, feeling her stomach fluttering again. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled his face down to hers. They kissed with an animalistic need, a need that they craved from each other for the last three weeks.

Suddenly a knock startled them apart. Ella giggled nervously and stepped away from Liam to answer the door. Bastien, Maxwell and Drake were on the other side with smiles on their faces.

“Hi guys, what’s going on?”

“Lady Ella, Sir,” Bastien stepped forward, the smile still on his face. “I received word that Tariq flew on a commercial flight into Cordonia. I have sent Royal Guards to apprehend him. He is being brought to the palace as we speak.”

Ella’s eyes widen with shock. “Oh my God!” she exclaimed. “Can we go now?” She turned to Liam. “Please?”

Liam smiles and nodded yes. “Let’s head to the car.”

They all arrived at the palace and walked straight to Liam’s study to wait on Tariq’s arrival. Ella sat on one of the chairs across from the massive desk, Maxwell sat on the other chair. Liam paced the floor and Drake leaned against the wall closest to the door.

Ella’s hands twisted in her lap, her stomach doing flips. A wave of nausea ran through her, then it quickly went away. I can’t decide if I’m hungry or if I need to throw up again. Ella pushed the thoughts out of her mind, tried to steady her breathing and focused on this upcoming conversation with Tariq.

The knock on the study door was expected, but everyone still jumped at the noise.

Liam cleared his throat. “Come in.”

The door opened and Bastien stood there with Tariq behind him, eyes glued to the floor.

“Your Majesty, Tariq has requested to speak with you and Lady Ella alone,” Bastien said. “He says he has some information that he thinks you may need to know.” Bastien looked at Liam and gave him a look.

Liam glanced at Ella, who had a determined gleam in her eyes and nodded. “Alright, that’s fine.”

Bastien bowed his head, motioned for Tariq to enter the room then took his place outside the door. Drake pushed himself off the wall and glared at the back of Tariq’s head. He turned to Liam and said, “I’ll be outside if you need any back up,” and cocked his head towards Tariq. Liam gave him a small smirk and clapped Drake on the shoulder as a thank you. “Beaumont. You’re with me,” Drake signaled to Maxwell.

Maxwell stood from the chair and looked at Ella. “We’ll be right outside Blossom,” and took one of her hands and squeezed reassuringly.

Ella looked up at him, smiled and squeezed his hand back. “Thanks Max. I’ll be fine.”

Maxwell and Drake left and closed the study door behind them. There was an awkward tension in the room as Liam and Ella studied Tariq.

Liam was the first to break the silence. “Tariq. What brings you back to Cordonia? We have been searching for you.”

For the first time since walking into the room Tariq lifted his head and looked at Liam. “Y-yes, I apologize Your Majesty. My father isn’t doing well health wise … I wanted to come home to see him,” he looked at Ella. “I also wanted to come and right my wrongs. Lady Ella, I am so sorry for that … unwelcome intrusion and advance at Applewood.”

Ella stood and faced Tariq, eyes narrowed. “What happened Tariq? I had never given you any attention that way except pleasantries when passing.”

Tariq took a deep breath. “I actually wanted to tell you both about the events leading up to that night as well as apologize to you, Lady Ella. I was approached by Countess Madeleine, she said King Constantine wanted to speak with me urgently.”

Liam cleared his throat, Ella’s widened. “What does my father have to do with this, Tariq?”

Tariq’s voice started to waver. “H-he summoned me to his study. Now your study sir,” he said quickly, visibly nervous. Tariq took a deep breath in. “He told me that he knew of your feelings for each other, but he wasn’t confident in Lady Ella’s ability to rule alongside you, Your Majesty.”

Liam’s jaw clenched but said nothing. He signaled Tariq to continue.

“King Constantine and Countess Madeleine explained to me that I would be paid to go to Lady Ella’s room in Applewood and attempt to” - he flicked his eyes between Liam and Ella, then focused his gaze on the table in front of him - “lay with her. The Countess said it didn’t matter if Lady Ella opened the door for me or not, there was no lock; I could walk right in without knocking and pretend I got lost,” he looked up again at Ella and Liam. Both were red with anger but they made no move to stop him.

“They told me that if I refused, my father’s title and lands would be revoked and my family banished from Cordonia.”

Liam and Ella looked at each other, then back at Tariq.

“Thank you, Tariq. You will be making a statement to the press to clear Lady Ella’s name,” Liam looked at Tariq just as he opened his mouth to protest. “In case you were wondering, that was an orderfrom your king, Tariq. You have no choice in the matter. You will also no longer be receiving a single dime from the crown for your disgusting actions that night.”

Tariq blurted out, “Your Majesty, I apologize, but I don’t think-“

Liam blacked out in that moment. Quicker than the blink of an eye, he lunged forward and cupped his large hand around Tariq’s neck and pulled him over the desk. Tariq’s eyes bulged and reddened, his mouth opened in a futile attempt to breathe. The papers scattered over the large oak desk fell onto the floor as Tariq tugged at Liam’s hand around his neck.

“I don’t give a rats ass what you think, Tariq!” Liam squeezed Tariq’s neck a smidge harder. Liam vaguely heard Ella’s voice scream for Bastien to come in. Suddenly, he felt a hand on his arm. He turned his head and Ella was looking up at him, coaxing him with her eyes to calm down and let go. Liam felt his muscles relax; he released Tariq’s neck and watched the man as he fell off the desk and onto the floor, gasping for air.

Bastien lifted up Tariq by his arm and said,”I’ll take him and keep him with me, sir.”

“Contact the press and have them ready in an hour. After the statement, I want him in a holding cell until I decide what to do with him.” Liam ordered. Bastien bowed his head and walked out of the study with Tariq in tow.

Liam turned back to Ella and cupped her face with his hands. “Are you okay? I’m sorry you had to see that,” he shook his head in disgust and stared at the door Tariq walked out of.

“I’m fine, Liam, I’m more concerned about you. You just learned your father had something to do with the scandal and keeping us apart.”

Liam’s jaw clenched. “I will have to figure out what to do about that.” Liam’s features softened as he looked at Ella. He ran his hands down her neck, shoulders and bare arms, then wrapped them around her waist and pulled her against his chest tightly. He felt her arms go around his neck as she began to run her fingers through his hair. “Once this statement is made, love, you’ll be free of this scandal,” he murmured.

Ella smirked up at him. “Yes, I will be. Then I’ll be heading home.”

Liam’s eyes narrowed then relaxed when he realized she was just joking. “Funny, love.”
