This decision might seem a bit random, but it is actually a massive win for the environment because glitter is really just tiny specks of plastic. Phasing out glitter was not the first eco-friendly decision made by Tops Day Nurseries. The centers have already banned plastic straws, balloons, and aprons, TreeHugger reports. The chain has also installed solar panels as well as executed food waste collection! Just like microbeads, glitter often finds its way into waterways as it is too small to get filtered out by water treatment facilities. Once in the oceans, glitter gets mistaken for food by fish and can easily accumulate in their stomachs, release toxins, and lead to blockages. Sky Ocean Rescue, the initiative of a popular European entertainment company that highlights global environmental issues, has created a 30-foot long installation of a whale 🐳 built out of plastic. The whale’s size is not accidental – it was made out of the same amount of plastic bags, bottles, and straws that are dumped into the ocean every second.⏳ .. When it comes to issues of such huge proportions like the plastic waste crisis, it is often difficult to fully grasp the size of the problem because the numbers we see are so unimaginably huge. Around 8️⃣.8️⃣ million tons of plastic end up in the oceans 🌊 every year – although it is obviously enormous, this number is still quite hard to accurately picture in our minds. .. The initiative for the city to abandon straws was initiated by Lonely Whale Foundation, an organization started by actor Adrien Grenier that is dedicated to marine wildlife education. As a part of the initiative, leading Seattle businesses and “cultural icons” have committed to using marine degradable alternatives to the usual single-use straws made out of plastic. The campaign, named Strawless in Seattle, is meant to result in a “radical reduction of plastic straw consumption in Seattle.” It is also the first project of its kind and will support Strawless Ocean’s initiative to remove 500 million plastic straws from the U.S. waste stream in 2017. Considering that every day, Americans alone use around 500 million plastic straws, these little items are actually very dangerous, especially to the 700 marine species that are already threatened with extinction due to plastic waste. B&W GWS. Single cage. It was a long morning this day, a lot of clients. The skipper came down as I was gathering wetsuits and asked me if I wanted to hop in the single cage. I didn’t have my contacts in but I jumped at the opportunity. Most of my gopro shark images are from the single cage. Sooner or later I will get out of the cage and be surrounded. One can only hope. The madness from being around humans take a toll, whereas being surrounded by these predators would put me at peace. The initiative, called Zero Mkt, promises zero animal products, zero single-use plastics, and zero waste, proposing to focus on reusable, recyclable, and compostable products instead. Zero Mkt will be located in the Conservatory in the Millennium Gloucester Hotel in Kensington. It is set to debut September 29, 2018, and tickets for the launch are already available online for £3.73 (around $5). Any profit will be donated to Animal Equality and surplus food from the market will be donated to City Harvest! The market organizers also encourage shoppers to bring their own zero waste food containers and utensils if they are already on hand. The market is still open for stall bookings by zero waste and vegan businesses.
