On Azura Isle, where the waves serenade the shore with an endless melody 🌊, there wandered a maiden named Rosaline, with curls as dark as the raven's wing and eyes like pools of starlight. A single hibiscus, the isle's bloom, nestled in her hair, a splash of pink against the onyx tresses 🌺.

Rosaline was a vision in her floral bikini, a symphony of turquoise and coral that echoed the vibrant life beneath the island's waves. The fabric kissed her skin like a gentle zephyr, its ribbons and ties a dance of elegance and grace.

She walked the beach with the poise of a queen, her laughter the tinkling of glass in the wind, her presence a soothing balm to the bustling life of the isle. Rosaline, the isle's beloved, spent her days basking in the golden sun, her heart beating in unison with the rhythm of Azura's heart 💖.

Today, she collected seashells, each one a treasure more precious than the last, a token of the isle's love for her, a love she returned tenfold with every soft step upon its sandy canvas.

Would you like to own a piece of prize-winning art…?

I created “Beach Treasures Blind” in an online art class run by Ricefield Arts in September 2020 and it won the Ricefield Arts “Express Yourself” Art Competition a few months later (https://ricefield.org.uk/2021/01/express-yourself-art-competition-winners/).

I found Ricefield Arts’ online classes really calming during the very frightening time that the pandemic presented me with as a blood cancer survivor with little immune system. They also gave me a sense of being in contact with others.

The "blind" element of the art's title refers to the fact that the still life (the static inanimate objects arranged to be drawn or painted) was to be drawn without looking at the paper or other surface drawn or painted on. The idea is to just look at the subject (the arranged objects) and then  see what your response (the marks you make on the paper) looks like afterwards. The main purpose of the exercise is to focus the artist’s attention on what they are actually seeing in front of them, rather than what they think they’re seeing. It's a way of making our art "free", "looser", less focussed on perfection and more informal, by keeping the lines drawn instinctual and unplanned. Usually it’s just the outline (or “contour”) of the items which are drawn “blind”. This technique was first used in the 1920s and 1930s, and was brought to mass attention in the art world in in the book “The Natural Way to Draw: A Working Plan for Art Study” written by Kimon Nicolaïdes in 1941.

I added watercolours after, allowing myself to look at where I was placing them. Otherwise it could have got rather messy!

I chose the little beach treasures I’d collected at Trearddur Bay earlier that week, including shells and a wooden ice cream spoon, for my still life subject for the drawing class, as it expresses how everything really is in the eye of the beholder. A little wooden ice cream spoon may look like rubbish to or act as a reminder of a blissful day at the beach. It’s all in the perception.

The framed A4 original is available to buy for £145 from the Foyer/Café at Castle Park Arts Centre, off Fountain Lane, Castle Park, Frodsham, Cheshire, WA6 6SE, 10am-4pm Tuesday to Saturday, till 26th October.

Hades who let’s families get one last goodbye to a loved one before they die

Persephone who personally makes sure that the ones taken too early feel safe and secure in the Underworld

Demeter who gives Her best crops to food banks and homeless shelters

Hecate who is a street magician and does actual magical for the kids

Poseidon who finds the best seashells and leaves them on the beach for someone to find and treasure

Say what you want about fishblr updates, but I think this format for reblubs is a wonderful improvement over the previous one. One of the only times staff did good.

@featherstar53 If reblub chains got too long, new reblubs would start appearing as darker and darker until you couldnt see the text anymore. It mimicked how light disappears as you go deeper in the ocean but the sunken code this webbedsite runs on never set a cap for how dark it gets, so eventually you would have to copy ad paste the text on the reblubs onto somewhere to read them.

This even went for full abyssal mode users! In their case, the text would slowly turn from white to dark blue, effectively making it impossible to read against the black background.

You really dont know a thing about natural selection, do you? Bettas have flashy fins because they have to seem threatening to possible competitors. They don't migrate so they aren't built for that. They're built for living in ponds and marshes, low oxygen environments, and by cod, they are built for fighting territorial battles! You shouldn't underestimate a fish literally called fighting fish. I believe the name "fishblr" pays homage to the meaning of the word where just about everything in the water was considered a fish. It's why we have words like "shellfish", "whalefish", "jellyfish", "starfish".

Personally aquablr would work really well, too. There's a sizeable amphibious userbase on here.
