An Unexpectedly Welcome Surprise
Event: Day 2 of @hphm-ship-week
Prompt: Second wizarding war
Tumblr media
Sara O’Donnell-Lee stared down at the test in her hand, her mind racing. This wasn’t supposed to happen yet. They’d been so precise, trying to avoid this exact outcome. They’d wanted to wait until after the war, until their lives weren’t at risk every moment of every day. But, Sara supposed, five tests (four muggle and one magical) didn’t lie.
“Sara? Love?” Her husband’s voice rang out, muffled by the door and layers of house.
“One minute,” Sara called back as she made her way down to the front door.
“What’s my favorite creature?” she asked, once she’d reached the door. They had a rotating list of security questions as had been the usual since Voldemort’s return had become public knowledge.
“The matagot… or crup. You think crups make better pets than matagots.”
“Yep. And I stand by that, Barn. No matagots for pets.”
“Okay.” He paused. “What’s my muggle sweet?”
“Love hearts. They’re your favorite.”
“Yep.”
Sara unlocked the door, letting out a breath that she hadn’t realized she’d been holding as Barnaby came into view. He was always a sight for sore eyes. A tall broad form with chestnut brown hair and bright green eyes and a five o’clock shadow dancing around his jawline. He wore his usual leather jacket, the one she’d gifted him upon completion of the magiozoologist training program.
“Evening, love,” he murmured, pressing a kiss to the side of her head.
“Evening,” she echoed, looking down at the hand that still grasped the test from earlier as if just realizing that she hadn’t left it behind in their bathroom.
“How was your day?”
Barnaby looked up when she didn’t respond. “Sara?” he asked.
She sighed. “I have some big news,” she replied.
“What’s up?”
“Well, I’ve been feeling a little off the past few weeks and noticed that I’d missed it last month and that plus the vomiting plus the exhaustion led me go and get a few muggle tests because I don’t want to go to someone and risk this getting out much further than I want it to.”
“Sara…”
“Well, what I’m trying to tell you without actually saying it, ‘cause we both agreed that waiting until after the war was ideal and we haven’t even been married a year yet.”
“Sara…”
“I’m pregnant, Barnaby.”
He froze for half a second, barely enough time for panic to set into Sara’s gut, but it started anyways. But then, Barnaby let out a whoop and spun her around. The test that she’d still been holding crashed to the ground.
“Merlin’s beard. I shouldn’t have done that should I?” Barnaby asked.
“It’s fine, Barnaby. There’s a lot more danger out there right now. But you’re happy?” Sara asked.
“Of course, I am. I’ve always wanted kids with you. You’ll be an amazing mum, Sara, love. I know it. You’re so kind to everyone.”
“I know it’s not the ideal time.”
“Would it ever be?”
Sara froze at Barnaby’s words. He was right. There would probably never be the right time for kids. And they’d already been moving cautiously.
“I suppose you’re right. I just wasn’t expecting it,” she replied after a moment.
Barnaby smiled and pulled her close, cradling her face with his large hands before gently pressing his lips to hers. Sara sighed, moving her hands to thread through Barnaby’s hair. After they broke apart, Barnaby’s hand traveled gently to her stomach, a look of awe breaking out on his face.
“I love you, Barnaby Abernathy Lee,” Sara breathed.
“I love you, too, Sara Ailis O’Donnell,” Barnaby replied.

a quiet truth
Synoposis: 19 year old Cáit fills out paperwork for her new apartment. She's stumped when she reaches the emergency contact section, until suddenly she realizes a simple truth....
A fanfiction for the movie "The Quiet Girl" because I've fallen throughly in love with it. Don't worry, I'll still be posting Scary Stories content!!! This is just a temporary break from the usual as I gush about this incredible story.
It’s 11 o’clock on a Saturday, and Cáit stares down at the paper in front of her. The clock ticks quietly on the wall, and the sunlight shines across the green linoleum at her feet. The kitchen is old, musty, outdated…..but it’s hers. She clicks her pen, thinking. The paper stares back at her, it’s font dark and angry. “Name”
“Date of Birth”
“Insurance Number”
And at the bottom of the page, seemingly small and insignificant:
“Emergency Contact,” followed by a blank space.
Another contact, another space.
“Relation to Renter”
Cáit bites her lip, her pen hovering in midair.
Eibhlín, Seán….
They’re the obvious choice, of course. They’re more her parents than her own flesh and blood.
She thinks of what people will say when they notice the different surnames.
Kinsella and O’Donnell
‘I was adopted,’ she’ll say. ‘When I was ten.’
It isn’t entirely true, but it isn’t false either.
Eibhlín and Seán had shown her more love than her parents ever had. That much was true.
Cait swallowed. It was decided, then.
She was sure that the Kinsellas wouldn’t mind. In fact, if either one were there, she was certain that they would insist on being listed as her contacts.
She fills out the sheet, her hands shaking with excitement.
Name: Cáit O’Donnell
Date of Birth: August 7th, 1972
Emergency Contact: Seán Kinsella
Relation to Renter:
Her hand falters.
This is it. Now or never….
Relation to Renter: Father
Cáit sighs. It was easier than she thought, and nicer, too.
It was a gentle lie, but also an honest truth.
The next line came easier.
Emergency Contact: Eibhlín Kinsella
Relation to Renter: Mother
Cáit smiles to herself in the musty old kitchen. Eibhlín would be proud. If Seán were here, he would have patted her on the shoulder and produced one of his famous little biscuits, the ones with the cream in the middle.
She thinks back to that summer, to the day she ran after their car. It almost felt as if Seán had been training her for this moment, as if all of those races to the mailbox had been meant to culminate in the moment when she ran into his arms, nearly too late as their car passed the O’Donnell’s gate. Cáit had leapt into his arms and embraced him.
“Daddy, Daddy….” she had whispered, as if it were some secret she had to hold close to her heart.
Eibhlín had once told her that their house held no secrets, that a house with a secret inside of it was a house filled with shame.
But Seán had also told her that sometimes it was better to say nothing than to say something, and that many men had lost much because of their unwillingness to stay quiet.
Cáit had decided then that some things were best kept as quiet secrets, even if your heart told you to scream them at the top of your lungs.

“A ROYAL OCCASION”  Dublin Age Action member PJ Gallagher remembers a brush with royalty from many years ago.
June 1961. Here in Ireland, Seán Lemass was Taoiseach. President Kennedy was in the White House. Pope John XXIII was in the Vatican. And I was 120 miles from home, aged 13, a patient in Crumlin Hospital recovering after major heart surgery. Crumlin Hospital was a home from home. The atmosphere was friendly, welcoming and, above all, caring. All the staff were so pleasant and happy at all times. During my stay, it was announced that Princess Grace of Monaco was coming on a State Visit and that yours truly would meet the Royal Visitor.
Cameras flashing
The hospital spent the whole week preparing for the big day. There were bunting and flags everywhere. The media had taken over the ward. Cameras were flashing in every direction. Two other patients and myself were brought to a special ward for the occasion.
I was seated in an armchair, one week after surgery, and the princess dressed in white, talking with a staff nurse on my left. She said hello to me and presented me with a box of chocolates. As I study the photo today I often think of the people in it. Princess Grace is no longer with us but I hope life was good to that nurse.
Crumlin staff
After celebrating my 68th birthday I’m lucky enough to be still going strong and in good health due in no small measure to the staff of Crumlin Hospital and I still remember some of them. Dr Barry O’Donnell did my surgery and I also remember Dr Conor Ward. The matron, Sister Paul, and Sister Philomena did great work along with the nurses, two of whom I particularly remember, Nurse Lily Dempsey and Nurse Stafford. Father Roy Drummey was the chaplain and I will always remember the night before surgery seeing a film on the life of St John Bosco. All those memories come flooding back when I see the picture. The hospital has expanded since that time and I wish the present staff well in their future endeavours.

"100% better option than Neil Lennon" - Many Celtic fans happy as manager throws hat into ring
Sky Sports reported on Tuesday that former West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic would be interested in talking to Celtic about the manager’s job should they decide not to keep Neil Lennon on, and Bhoys fans would seemingly be happy with the appointment.
The Croatian has been out of work since he was sacked by Saudi Arabia outfit Al-Ittihad in February, having only won three of his 15 matches in charge.
Before that he enjoyed a largely successful spell with the Irons, although the wheels began to fall off in his final few months in charge before he was dismissed and replaced by David Moyes towards the end of 2017.
It remains to be seen whether the Glasgow giants’ hierarchy look to keep Lennon on or not, as even though he steered the club to the title following Brendan Rodgers’ exit in February, the 2-0 defeat against a Rangers outfit getting better and better on Sunday was less than impressive.
“Lionel Messi is Barcelona’s James McFadden!” – Watch Scottish football fans name their clubs’ Lionel Messi in the video below…
Celtic supporters have been having their say on the 50-year-old via social media, and while one described him as a “100% better option than Neil Lennon”, another said they “would be very happy with Bilic”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Slaven Bilic is definitely a manager I could get behind, 100% better option than neil lennon 💚
— John O’Donnell (@Johnodonnell_88) May 14, 2019
Rafa first choice for me but highly unlikeky we'll get him. Would be very happy with Bilic also seeing he's interested. 👍🍀
— IanSteve1967🍀 (@IanSteve1967_) May 14, 2019
Def, unlikely I think tho, bilic more likely and I’d be happy with that too
— Richard Murphy (@RichardMurphy80) May 15, 2019
Slaven Bilic would do a good job at Celtic, if he becomes the next Celtic manager and drive the club forward
— John Burns (@jonbz) May 14, 2019
Bilic achievable and would be good appointment. Rafa would be fantastic but canny see it
— Liam McLaughlan (@LiamMcLaughlan) May 14, 2019
Slaven Bilic would be a good choice he should never have been sacked by West Ham 🍀
— Broony 🍀 (@BroonyBhoy1) May 14, 2019
So Bilic has come out and said he is interested in the Celtic job. He is a cracking guy, seemed to be a good manager and hopefully not one to let a big job phase him.
— charlie nield (@charlienield1) May 14, 2019
If Bilic wants Celtic then Celtic hierarchy must get this done. A quality manager.
— Stefan (@MrStefanCarlin) May 14, 2019
Get Bilic done absolutely brilliant manager would work wonders with us
— Seán Markus Clifford (@seanmarkus_67) May 14, 2019

Bilbao braggings
What would Ireland’s four provincial squads look like if they contained only homegrown players?
Tumblr media
To play for Athletic Bilbao, you need to be born or raised in the greater Basque country. Despite these obvious constraints, the club has never suffered the indignity of relegation from Spain’s La Liga. The club side won a couple of leagues in the 1980s and even reached the Europa league final under the guidance of football’s maddest professor Marcelo Bielsa.
So, what if we were to apply this homegrown policy to Irish provincial rugby? Could Leinster, Munster, Ulster, and Connacht field players raised exclusively on their own land and remain competitive in the Pro14 and in Europe?
Munster
Strip out the South Africans, the errant sons of Leinster, and stray Kiwis and where would Munster be?
At present, about 39% of Munster’s squad went through neither the academy system nor the local club game. Of its 17 wild geese, six are from Leinster and another six are South African; but, actually, if they were all to leave in the morning, they’d still be in a pretty good spot.
They would still have two decent front rows, a back row featuring Tommy O’Donnell, Peter O’Mahony, and Jack O’Donoghue, a half-back partnership of Conor Murray and JJ Hanrahan, Rory Scannell at 12, and a back three including Keith Earls and Darren Sweetnam.
Tumblr media
However, without their overseas and domestic signings, Munster would lose a lot of heft. Take CJ Stander, Chris Farrell, Jaco Taute, Sam Arnold, Jean Kleyn, and Chris Cloete out of the squad and you miss serious ball-carrying ability and/or ballast.
Remove the players filling the gaps and you see that Munster lack trusted indigenous players at outhalf, second row, back row, and centre. There is a lot of younger talent but is it fully trusted to deliver at the highest level? Outhalf is a case in point, where both Dubliner Ian Keatley and New Zealander Tyler Bleyendaal are preferred to prodigal son JJ Hanrahan,                 while the promising Bill Johnston has understandably been brought through slowly.
Similarly, during big games, flanker Jack O’Donoghue bides his time on the bench, and they have elected to sign second row Tadhg Beirne (formerly of Leinster) from Scarlets instead of promoting from within.
Without the influx of domestic and international talent, Munster would still be competitive. They would still be formidable in Thomond but - in contrast to ghosts of Munster teams past - they would be too lightweight to overcome gnarled, elite packs.
Ulster
You can imagine eyes brimming with tears in the South Africa at the mere mention of the 300 players lost to Europe. Their sons eschewed garish Springbok blazers and went for yawning bank balances and the chance not to get their arses handed to them by Kiwi sides every week instead.
Ulster, too, has become an enclave for these wandering souls. Eight South Africans are numbered among the ranks, along with four Kiwis, a few poached Englishmen, a couple of rogue Munstermen, and a growing Leinster contingent. In all, almost 45% of their squad did not trouble the Ulster underage system.
For the sons of Ulster, the prospect looks set to become even more frightening, with half of south county Dublin set to pitch up in Ravenhill with their artisan coffee, sleeveless puffer jackets, and perfectly pronounced tee haytches.
Leinster alumnus Marty Moore and current backrower Jordi Murphy will make the move next season alongside several former Leinster prospects currently in the Ulster academy, and the four former Leinster players in the senior squad. As Gerry Thornley noted on the excellent Second Captains podcast, Ulster could theoretically name a side next season with numbers 1-10 all having gone through the Leinster system.
Tumblr media
That is not to say they do not have high quality indigenous players. In recent years, Ulster have always had a tidy backline and could even afford to release skilled players including centre Chris Farrell.
They remain strong in midfield, and in the back three in particular, with Jacob Stockdale shining in the November internationals. That said, the sun is setting on the careers of Andrew Trimble and Tommy Bowe, the mesmeric Charles Piutau and stopgap flyhalf Christian Lealiifano won’t be there next season, and who knows what will happen to Paddy Jackson?
On the plus side, Messrs Moore and Murphy should help mend the creaking pack. Were it not for domestic and international signings, Ulster’s pack would be weak even by Pro14 standards, with only Rory Best, Iain Henderson proving proficient at the top level.
Connacht
This be where town mice become country mice, poached Englishmen become gamekeepers, and Kiwis from islands north and south meet the wildness of the west.
Of the four provincial squads, it is no surprise that the one with the fewest resources is the most reliant world rugby’s diaspora. Two-thirds of their current senior squad come from outside the western province, with 26% coming through the Leinster game alone.
In recent years, Pat Lam made a fine patchwork quilt using the off-cuts of other clubs stitched together and local talent; yet they wouldn’t be competitive without Bundee Aki, Finlay Bealham, Tom McCartney, Matt Healy, Craig Ronaldson, Niyi Adeolokun, and several others. In particular, they couldn’t cope in the tight five and in the centre; but, in fairness, not many teams in the Northern hemisphere would thrive when stripped to the marrow.
Leinster
The trick the other three provinces should learn is to grow really large populations, expand their reach to 12 counties each if possible (pathetically, Connacht and Munster are just five and six counties respectively), and to speedily introduce a hyper-competitive schools system with pushy parents, quasi-professional coaching set-ups with nutritionists, and bitter decades-old rivalries. Oh, and put the competition on television just like the Leinster Senior Cup. That’s all they need to do to be like the boys in blue.
Leinster have all the natural advantages but – from a player development perspective – they’re making the most of it. In their squad of 45, only 20% (nine players) weren’t Leinster-bred. Of these, Richardt Strauss is fourth choice hooker, Corkman Ian Nagle is fourth choice lock, the ever-reliable Michael Bent is battling Andrew Porter for second spot in the tighthead pecking order, and Jamison Gibson-Park is second choice scrumhalf.
Tumblr media
In a Leinster homespun 23, at least one Lion and half a dozen internationals would be left fuming on the bench. That side would run something like:
First XV: 1. Healy/J McGrath, 2. Tracy 3. Furlong, 4. Ryan, 5. Toner, 6. Ruddock/Leavy, 7. O’Brien/van der Flier, 8. Heaslip/Conan, 9. L McGrath, 10. Sexton, 11. Larmour/Daly, 12. Reid, 13. Ringrose/O’Loughlin, 14. Byrne/McFadden, 15. Kearney/Carbery.
Bench: Dooley/E Byrne, B Byrne, Porter, Molony/M Kearney, Murphy, R Byrne, D Kearney, McCarthy.
As strong as a combination of these players would be, Leinster would still miss the leadership and guile of Isa Nacewa and Scott Fardy, the go-forward ball and muscular defence provided by Connacht alumnus Robbie Henshaw, and the dynamism of Limerick-reared Seán Cronin.
Without outside influence, their squad could reach the Champions Cup quarter finals but even the best homegrown sides need a Rocky Elsom or Doug Howlett to help them lift silverware.
Home truths
The profile of Irish rugby looks quite different when the clothes come off. We can see from the spread of players that Connacht and Ulster lean on overseas signings and the Leinster academy system to remain competitive. Munster have decent indigenous talent yet they don’t always trust them in big games. Only Leinster are largely self-sufficient; but, like Bilbao, basking in the satisfaction of a great youth system is one thing; winning trophies without outside help is another.

Personality: Reserved, loyal, hardworking, has a sarcastic side, kind, friendly, gregarious, a slightly skittish nature, intelligent, stubborn, introverted, loving, cautious
About Conor: The first Lynch to be sorted into Hufflepuff in over a century, Conor is both very similar and very different to his parents and has a very complicated relationship with them, as they both overcorrected in their attempts to not be like their own parents. This means that Conor learned to be independent at a younger age than most of his peers. However, that never affected him too much as Conor has always had a rather serious bend. He’s quite a private person, but he is very kind, friendly, and has a gregarious nature around people that he is comfortable with. He does enjoy being around people, even though he’s got a slightly skittish nature. He’s also quite intelligent, stubborn, and cautious.
Conor never really has a good relationship with either of his parents and in the Tadhg Lives AU, he runs away at the age of 12 and begins living with his uncle and aunt. His relationship with his parents never gets the chance to heal either, as they both pass away before they could. However, in the Tadhg Lives AU, he does reconcile with his mother shortly before she passes away and he gets the opportunity to introduce her to his two children, Doyle and Ailis.
After graduating from Hogwarts, Conor becomes a healer like his daughter and youngest granddaughter. He also marries Ciara Mallon, a muggleborn from Derry in Northern Ireland. He falls for Ciara quite quickly and is surprised that they never ran into one another while at Hogwarts. He has two children with Ciara, a son named Doyle Brannigan who was born on December 13, 1925, and a daughter named Ailis Ciara who was born on March 24, 1936. Conor loved both of his children, but he ended up feeling quite wary about the direction his son was heading. The boy was acting much like Conor’s father had and he found that concerning, but his son ignored everything that Conor said causing a rift to form between father and son. His relationship with his daughter was much better and he was quite happy to give her away to a muggleborn man from Donegal named Seán O’Donnell. Sadly, Conor never gets the chance to meet any of his grandchildren as he contracted a fatal case of dragon pox in 1964, while his daughter was pregnant with his first grandchild.
Trivia:
Conor’s youngest grandson is named after him. His middle grandson is also named after him, but more indirectly and it also honors his grandson’s paternal grandfather.
Conor’s relationship with his son went downhill after an argument during the Christmas holidays of 1943. It was bad and nothing was ever the same again. Conor was very heartbroken by their falling out and did try to reach out to his son a few times, but Doyle never replied.
Conor’s relationships with his parents were always rather rocky. They didn’t always get along and well, Conor found himself being a bit of a black sheep in the family. In fact, Conor pretty much sets a new precedent for the Lynch family and it’s his children that end this particular branch of the Lynch family.

Hobbies: Quidditch, football/soccer, reading, flying, horse riding, writing
Personality: Kind, friendly, outgoing, optimistic, impulsive, spontaneous, brazen, gregarious, disorganized, intelligent, stubborn, relaxed
About Saoirse: As the younger daughter, Saoirse has always felt like she needs to compare herself to her older sister, which couldn’t be further from the truth. She might be similar in personality to her sister, but she’s also very different and her parents have always avoided comparing their children. In fact, Saoirse takes after her mother more so than her sister does, although she does have a lot of her father’s impulsivity and spontaneous nature. She’s an outgoing girl with a lot of intelligence and is quite fond of quidditch. She also has a very close relationship with her twin brother, Oscar, and her relationship with her sister is occasionally contentious.
Upon starting her education at Hogwarts, Saoirse was sorted into Gryffindor just like her father had been and found herself right at home there. Perhaps it was because she had grown up around a lot of different Gryffindors and had a lot of good role models to look up to from that house. She also discovered a true passion in quidditch, earning the position of chaser in her fourth year after she spent the summer practicing with her father and some of her “cousins.”
Despite her passion for quidditch, Saoirse’s ambition had always been to follow in her mother’s footsteps to become an auror. As a child, she had grown up listening to stories about what her mother had done during her early years as a field auror and she had always been completely fascinated by the stories. After graduating, Saoirse made that dream a reality, joining the auror training program as one of five girls in the class of thirty-five.
Trivia:
Saoirse’s middle name is after her godmother, who is basically the closest her father has to a sister.
Saoirse loves to hold it over Oscar’s head that she’s five minutes older than him.

Extracurriculars: Seeker on his house quidditch team in his third year ; prefect
Hobbies: Hiking, reading, flying
Personality: Reserved, logical, practical, rational, stubborn, intelligent, curious, kind, observant, quiet, hardworking, determined, overthinker
About Oscar: As the only son, Oscar tends to take after his father more so than his mother. However, he lacks his father’s interest in mischief. He’s a quiet, reserved person with a logical and rational nature that’s accompanied by a kind and curious nature as well. He’s always felt like an individual, likely because he is the only son and that he’s never felt a desire to compare himself to his sisters… aside from in a competitive sense but that’s mostly reserved for the quidditch pitch. He has a close relationship with his twin sister, Saoirse, and a good relationship with his sister, Aisling, and his parents.
Upon starting Hogwarts, Oscar was sorted into Ravenclaw, where he excelled in many of his classes and found himself at home in the house. He liked the connection to his mother and he also had a few “cousins” in the house, so there were some familiar faces to turn to. He also truly found quidditch and fell in love with it, just like his sister did and like his sister, he didn’t devote his life to quidditch. Unlike his sister, though, Oscar became a prefect in his fifth year and he found the position to be interesting. He learned that he preferred to work by himself and he didn’t want to be one to have too much power. Instead, after graduating, Oscar found himself inheriting the Kelly farm after his grandfather passed and he became quite the magical farmer… something no one ever expected from him.
Trivia:
Oscar is named after his mother’s late older brother, Ronan Oscar Kelly who passed away as a very young child. His middle name is after family friends.

Least Favorite Subjects: Study of Ancient Runes
Extracurriculars: Astronomy club
Hobbies: Reading, chess, star gazing
Personality: Reliable, reserved, kind, intelligent, competitive (mostly with his siblings), sarcastic, curious, well spoken, hardworking, stubborn, quiet, dry wit
About Harry: As the eldest son, Harry generally has a rather serious demeanor. He takes after his father a lot in temperament and demeanor, although Harry has never felt the weight of the world on his shoulders. He’s much more uptight than his siblings, although he does have a close bond with his younger brother, Andrew. In addition, Harry is a bit closer to his mother than he is his father. There’s no real reason, aside from the fact that Harry spent a bit more time with his mother than he did his father.
Upon starting his education at Hogwarts, Harry was sorted into Ravenclaw. He was a hatstall between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, though. He didn’t join the quidditch team, though, as he had a slight desire to rebel against his family’s quidditch passions. It wasn’t big, but he found his own passions and interests, although he did continue to support quidditch teams.
After graduating from Hogwarts, Harry became an astronomer. He had always been fascinated by space and paid close attention to the advancements that the muggles were making. In addition, Harry fell in love with Lucy Devlin, a magiczoologist and fellow Ravenclaw alumn. Together, they had three children: Dorothy Josephine “Dot,” Eamon William, and Rosemary Ivy Pembroke.
Trivia:
Harry’s middle name is after his late paternal grandfather, Gareth Rhys Pembroke.
Like all three of his siblings, Harry knows the sign language that his Aunt Aoife uses and has learned it since birth, more or less.
Harry doesn’t really respond to the name “Henry.” He mostly hates being called it. Lucy is the only one he really allows to call him “Henry,” though.
Harry is the great-grandfather of Sophia Josephine “Sophie” Pembroke and her two siblings, Rhys Andrew and Emmeline Daisy “Emmy” Pembroke.

About Margo: As the only daughter and youngest child, Margo takes after her mother a lot. She has her mother’s warm and friendly nature, but it’s coupled with her father’s reserved and anxiety-prone nature. These balance each other out, though. In addition, Margo has a close relationship with her father and with her brother, Colin. Colin is her favorite person to prank, because Colin will get involved and enjoy them.
Upon starting her education at Hogwarts, Margo was sorted into Hufflepuff, just like both of her parents had been. She found her footing in Hufflepuff quite quickly, feeling at home early on in her first year. In her third year, she made the Hufflepuff quidditch team with the position of seeker. She enjoyed the position, but hated the way everyone immediately compared her to her father. Therefore, when the opportunity to play other positions emerged, Margo jumped at the opportunity, but she always came back to seeker.
Despite her passion for quidditch, Margo never went professional. She enjoyed it as more of a pastime or hobby. Instead, she went on to become a quidditch journalist, reporting on the different games throughout the British and Irish league. She also dabbled in other writing pursuits like fiction, but never took them professional during her lifetime.
Trivia:
Like her father, Margo is allergic to cats.
Margo inherited her mother’s ability to change her hair color. However, she also inherited her mother’s limitations, meaning that the only colors she can change her hair to are blonde and brunette.
One of Margo’s favorite pastimes is pranking her brothers. She loves to mess with them, especially when they start getting on her nerves. She has started more than one prank war with Colin, as he’s the brother that willingly goes along with it.

About Lucy: As the younger twin and middle daughter, Lucy struggles to find her footing. She’s the middle child, in every way, and while she definitely doesn’t feel like a middle child, Lucy struggles to understand her own role in the family. She is her mother’s daughter, though, and they share many similarities in personality. Lucy takes great pride in their similarities. Aside from her twin, she’s closest to Mattie, although she has never truly shared her sister’s desire for creative pursuits.
Upon starting Hogwarts, Lucy is sorted into Ravenclaw after ten minutes of the hat debating if she would fit better in Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. She became comfortable in Ravenclaw quite quickly, which was likely helped by the fact that her twin had also been placed there and so, Lucy had a familiar face to turn to. Luckily, the students and people around them were able to understand that Emmeline and Lucy were different people, even if they were quite similar.
After graduating from Hogwarts, Lucy followed her mother’s footsteps into the field of magiozoology. She became fascinated by moon calves and augries, in particular. In addition, Lucy also fell in love with Harry Pembroke, an astronomer and a fellow Ravenclaw alumn. They had three children together: Dorothy Josephine “Dot,” Eamon William, and Rosemary Ivy Pembroke.
Trivia:
Lucy’s family are the only ones who call her “Lucy-Lu.” Harry Pembroke is the only one who calls her “Lu.” Everyone else calls her “Lucy” and that’s the way that she likes it.
Lucy’s middle name is in honor of her mother.
As a child, she would bring home all sorts of injured animals that she found while exploring the land surrounding the family’s home.
As an adult, the Devlin-Pembroke house is home to many different creatures, most of which Lucy had brought home.
Lucy is the great-grandmother of Sophia Josephine “Sophie” Pembroke and her siblings, Rhys Andrew and Emmeline Daisy “Emmy” Pembroke.

About Sebastian: As the younger son, Sebastian is the child that takes after his father the most… at least in terms of personality. He also is, perhaps, the closest to William as well. They just click quite well. In addition, aside from his twin (of course), Sebastian is probably the closest to his big brother, Samuel. He absolutely adores his big brother, in a way that happened due to their ten year age gap. He doesn’t feel the need to rebel against their parents the way that Samuel does, though.
When he started his education at Hogwarts, Sebastian was sorted into Hufflepuff. For the first time in his life, Sebastian found himself separated from Mattie, which left him panicked for the first few weeks. Slowly, though, Sebastian found his place within Hufflepuff house. He joined the quidditch team in his third year, earning the position of seeker. He wouldn’t pursue it as a career, but he quite enjoyed the sport.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, given his similarities to his father, Sebastian ends up becoming a wandmaker after he graduates from Hogwarts. He never became a big name like Ollivander’s or Gregorovitch. Instead, he kept a small practice and preferred it that way.
Trivia:
Sebastian is ten minutes older than his twin sister, Mattie.
His middle name is after both his father and great-grandfather. His great-grandfather was named Liam, which is an Irish variation of William.
Born seven years after Emmeline and Lucy, Sebastian (and his twin sister) was a surprise baby.
His siblings are the only ones who really call him “Seb” or “Bastian.” He prefers “Bastian,” but would really just like to be called Sebastian.
He is a very good fencer, besting all four of his siblings quite often.

About Mattie: As the youngest daughter, Mattie is the only one of her siblings to have a creative passion. She is quite fond of the piano and can often be found playing a piano during gatherings. In addition, she’s quite fond of painting, although she’s not interested in making a career out of it. Aside from her creative passions, Mattie has a close relationship with her siblings. Besides her twin, Mattie is probably the closest to her sister, Lucy.
When she started her education, Mattie was sorted into Slytherin. Finding herself separated from Sebastian for the first time, Mattie found her footing surprisingly quickly. She joined the Slytherin quidditch team in her fourth year, earning the position of keeper. She enjoyed the sport, but not as much as either of her brothers.
After graduating from Hogwarts, Mattie became a tutor/governess. She wasn’t thrilled with the job, struggling to find things that felt fulfilling. She found fulfillment, though, when she began to teach music to young girls. It was a satisfying move.
Trivia:
Mattie is ten minutes younger than her twin brother, Sebastian.
Her siblings are the only people who ever call her “Tilly.” They only do it when they want to get on her nerves. Sebastian tends to do it the most often, but she’ll call him “Seb” in return.

Parents: Seán Michael O’Donnell [deceased, 1936-1978] and Ailis Ciara O’Donnell née Lynch [deceased, 1936-1974]
Tumblr media
Both former Ravenclaws, Seán O’Donnell and Ailis Lynch were married on May 29, 1962. Ailis had recently turned twenty-six, while Seán was a few weeks shy of his twenty-sixth birthday. They loved each other dearly, and had their first child, Cian, in early 1965. It took eight years for them to have another child and in summer 1973, Seán and Ailis had quadruplets, Ryan, Cara, Sara, and Conor. Ailis died a year later. Four years after Ailis died, Seán died as well.
Cian had always been closer to his mother, so her death hit him very hard. He never quite recovered from losing her, so the subsequent losses of his father, grandparents, and love interest hit him very hard.
Faceclaims: Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalist
Siblings: Ryan Michael O’Donnell ; Cara Rose O’Donnell ; Sara Ailis O’Donnell ; Conor Lorcan O’Donnell
Tumblr media
Born on August 18, 1973, Ryan, Cara, Sara, and Conor are eight years younger than Cian and are quadruplets. Starting Hogwarts in 1984, the quads were each sorted into a different house with Ryan in Gryffindor, Cara in Slytherin, Sara in Hufflepuff, and Conor in Ravenclaw. They also began investigating the Cursed Vaults, just as Cian had.
Cian never had a close relationship with Ryan, Cara, Sara, and Conor for multiple reasons. There was the eight year age gap, which meant that Cian often wasn’t interested in hanging out with little kids and he never wanted to do much with them as babies either. There was the strong bond the younger four O’Donnell siblings had. This was probably the biggest reason and Cian held a bit of resentment towards this close bond. He often felt like they didn’t need, or care, about him.
Faceclaims: Jaeden Martell, Sadie Sink, Malina Weissman, and Jack Moore
Grandparents:
Lorcan Ryan O’Donnell [deceased, 1905-1979]
Rose Marie O’Donnell née Boyle [deceased, 1906-1979]
Conor Ryan Lynch [deceased, 1898-1964]
Ciara Mary Lynch née Mallon [deceased, 1900-1964]
Uncle: Doyle Brannigan Lynch [deceased, 1925-1998]
After the deaths of his paternal grandparents, Cian and his siblings were placed in the custody of their mother’s older brother, Doyle, who was born on December 13, 1925. A cold and calculating man, Doyle instantly noticed the weakness in his eldest nephew. He exploited that weakness, playing into the boy’s grief and manipulating Cian into doing his bidding.
Cian hero worshiped his uncle a lot during his time at Hogwarts. He thought that Doyle could do no wrong and grew blind to the things that Doyle was doing to him and his siblings. That hero worship diminished during his time in the portrait vault, but he was never able to look beyond the lies that Doyle had installed in him.
Nieces: Theodora Ailis “Dora” O’Donnell-Lee ; Violet Cara O’Donnell-Lee ; Keira Willow Khanna-O’Donnell ; Winifred Ailis O’Donnell ; Namoi Ailis O’Donnell

Siblings-in-law: Penelope Dawn “Penny” Haywood ; Rowan Indu Khanna ; Barnaby Abernathy Lee ; Ruth Abigail Lyman
Friends: Duncan Ashe, Olivia Green
Love Interest: Duncan Ashe
Tumblr media
Cian first began crushing on Duncan in his fifth year. They had been best friends since meeting on the Hogwarts Express and Cian had always known that he felt something different for Duncan. Over the course of the year, his crush on Duncan only grew and eventually, Cian realized that he was in love with Duncan. However, Cian never managed to get the courage to ask Duncan out and just as he had begun planning to ask Duncan on a date, Duncan was killed.
Duncan’s death was the final straw for Cian. He threw himself into the Cursed Vaults, neglecting his other friendships, classes, and everything else. He had no time for anything else and grief sunk its claws deeper into him.

✧ HISTORY & BACKGROUND ✧
Hometown: County Donegal, Ireland
Pre-Hogwarts Childhood:
Cian Jacob O’Donnell was born on January 18, 1965 to Seán and Ailis O’Donnell in Dublin, Ireland. The first eight years of his life were stable and full of love. That began to change when his mother announced that she was pregnant… with the quadruplets.
Cian’s baby siblings, Ryan Michael, Cara Rose, Sara Ailis, and Conor Lorcan were born prematurely on August 18, 1973. His life did a complete 180 and Cian could never quite figure out if it was a good thing or a bad thing. He knew how much his parents had wanted another child. But years later, knowing their fates, Cian couldn’t help but wonder if the quadruplets were just a catalyst for what came after.
A little less than one year later, Ailis fell seriously, and mysteriously, ill. No one was able to identify a cause or a cure and Ailis O’Donnell passed, peacefully, on August 2, 1974. Cian was heartbroken and never really recovered from losing her.
The next two years passed in a blur, as his father adapted to being a single father of five. Cian’s paternal grandparents moved in and provided a lot of assistance. There wasn’t enough time, or caring adults, to adequately notice how grief was sinking its claws into the boy, though.
Hogwarts Years:
In 1976, Cian began attending Hogwarts. He was quickly sorted into Gryffindor, although the hat did consider Slytherin for a moment. Hogwarts seemed to do some good for the boy… until news came in April of 1978 that Seán had been killed in an automobile wreck. Cian sunk inwards on himself, lashing out and then the Cursed Vaults fell into his lap.
The Vaults distracted him from the grief of three successive losses in less than eighteen months and Cian quickly became obsessed with them. The obsession coupled with the intensifying grief and loneliness made Cian an easy target for his manipulative uncle, Doyle Lynch as Cian and his siblings had been placed in Doyle’s custody following the deaths of their father and grandparents.
The tipping point, though, came when Cian was sixteen when his best friend, and crush, Duncan Ashe was killed. Unable to cope in a healthy way, Cian threw himself even deeper into the Cursed Vaults. It ultimately led up to Cian’s expulsion and entrapment in the Portrait Vault.
Adulthood:
For eight long years, Cian was trapped in the Vault, his mind slowly warping with an intense grief and guilt. Then, in June of 1989, Cian was released from the Portrait Vault by his younger siblings. He was unable to recognize them, as they’d grown so much bigger than the eight-year-olds Cian remembered.
He fled from Hogwarts, and sunk into hiding, unsure of how to cope with the burden on his chest and an intense desire for acceptance.
When the second war began, Cian’s yearning for acceptance had grown stronger. He’d never felt fully accepted by his siblings, the four sharing a bond that was too much for him to feel involved. This resulted in Cian feigning an alliance with the Death Eaters for about ten weeks. He never became a death eater or even subscribed to their ideology, though. His grandparents had been muggles and Cian had always held them in the highest of esteem, along with his own parents. Eventually, in December of 1997, Cian fled once again, deserting the war.
He worked on and off for the remaining years of his life, working odd jobs for anyone who would spare some money.
Old Age & Death:
In 2002, desolate and miserable, Cian fell fatally ill. He died, penniless, alone, and nearly unrecognizable, in the ward of magical bugs at Leighis Hospital in Dublin. His body was identified by his sister, Sara, a healer who had never discovered that her oldest brother was a patient in her hospital until he had already passed.
He was laid to rest next to his parents and grandparents. His headstone reads: A man who never recovered from the loss life dealt him. Here lies Cian Jacob O’Donnell. January 18, 1965–December 13, 2002. Brother, son, friend.
Tumblr media
✧ MISCELLANEOUS ✧
Trivia:
Cian physically aged in the portrait vault and kept his hair long, even after he was released.
As mentioned, Cian was almost a hatstall between Gryffindor and Slytherin. He was sorted into Gryffindor in about four minutes and fifty-five seconds, thus making him just under a hatstall.
Cian doesn’t really like the person that he has become. He’s very conflicted about himself in general, though.
Cian never knew what career that he wanted to pursue. He was focused on the Vaults and on gaining his uncle’s approval and also R’s approval. He eventually settled on being either an auror or curse-breaker. However, once he’s freed from the Vaults, he doesn’t pursue any career. He just kinda traveled everywhere after, aimlessly wandering.
Cian can be a bit spineless and has a desire to gain people’s approval, which makes him do stupid things.
Cian is the great-grandson of Cillian Lynch and Orla O’Rourke. Their son, Conor Ryan, is Cian’s maternal grandfather, although Conor passed away before Cian was born.
When Ailis O’Donnell died, an ancient protection magic wove itself into her five children. While it didn’t do all that much for her eldest son, who was nine at the time, it did provide much protection to her younger four children, aged eleven months. Its power wasn’t based on who was loved more. No, this magic’s power was influenced more by the children’s ages than anything else, really. Her eldest, at nine, never managed to recover from the grief and over the next seven years, her son’s destructive grief overpowered the magic. Her younger four, being much younger, had no memory of Ailis and so, the grief they held was different, less oppressive than her eldest son’s. Thus, it was able to be strengthened over time as it fed on the love and bond that always held steadfast for the quadruplets.
Cian is a bit of a foil for my other iteration of the Jacob character, Sawyer Fitzgerald.

Character Spotlights: The Lynch-O’Donnell Family
Day 4: Character Spotlight for @kathrynalicemc’s Lineage Challenge
Tumblr media
→ The eldest son of Bain and Clodagh Lynch, Cillian Cathal Lynch led a complicated life. Nothing he did, whether it was voicing strong disdain for muggles and muggleborns or fiercely dueling his twin brother, was good enough for his father, who died when he was twelve. In the canon timeline, he was arrested for the murder of his twin brother. However, Cillian maintained his innocence until his death, alleging that he wasn’t the one who cast the fatal curse.
Tumblr media
→ The marriage of Seán Michael O’Donnell and Ailis Ciara Lynch in 1962 united the O’Donnell and Lynch families into one. They had both been in Ravenclaw during their time at Hogwarts, but had only ever been acquaintances. That changed when they met again in Diagon Alley. Ailis was a healer, while Seán was an auror. Together they had five children. Sadly, they were never able to grow old together. Ailis fell fatally ill shortly before their quadruplets’ first birthday. Seán never took off his wedding band and even spent a year as Hogwarts’s Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, before his own death in 1978.
Tumblr media
→ The eldest son of Seán and Ailis, Cian Jacob O’Donnell never recovered from the grief of losing his parents, grandparents, and love interest. The grief left him vulnerable to the manipulation of his uncle and the lure of the Cursed Vaults. After his release from the Vaults, Cian disappeared and his four younger siblings wouldn’t see him again until his death in December of 2002.
Tumblr media
→ Declan Ryan O’Donnell-Lee loved his family dearly. But being the son of a world renowned magiozoologist and one of the famous Hogwarts cursebreakers wasn’t always easy. It didn’t seem that way to most people, but once he started at Hogwarts, Declan began to feel like he didn’t matter. It seemed like the only thing that people found interesting about him was his surname and familial connections. It didn’t seem to matter that he was exceptionally talented on the quidditch pitch. No one ever seemed to remember his first name.

🌓 O'Donnell quads [ellie-e-marcovitz 😊]
Seán O’Donnell and Ailis Lynch have two first meetings.
Their first meeting was at Hogwarts. They were both sorted into Ravenclaw and happened to sit next to each other during the welcoming feast. They hit it off but never became close friends during their Hogwarts years.
Their second meeting, and the one that really mattered, happened in 1959. Seán literally ran into Ailis, spilling his drink all over her. He apologized profusely, his cheeks going bright red. Ailis managed to laugh and reassure him that his spilled drink wasn’t actually a problem. A year later, their relationship moved from platonic to romantic. This was followed by a marriage two years later and in the next dozen or so years, they added five children to their lives. Of course, they would also end tragically yet happily, with Seán refusing to take off his wedding ring.

What is your favorite change you’ve made to the amazing stories in your newly renovated HP profiles?
Currently, my favorite change is making defense against the dark arts professor!Seán O’Donnell canon.
“After retiring, Albus Dumbledore approached Seán with an offer of employment. He wanted Seán to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts for the 1975-1976 school year. Seán spent a long time deliberating before eventually agreeing with his own terms and conditions, mainly surrounding his children. He would retire once again after the year ended, citing a desire to be there for his children more.”

"It is a curious thing, the death of a loved one.
We all know that our time in this world is limited, and that eventually all of us will end up underneath some sheet, never to wake up. And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know. It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things."

The Lynch-O’Donnell Lineage — Ask Game!
Thanks @kathrynalicemc for hosting this challenge! It gave me the opportunity to update this family and to expand on some things!
1.) Canon or Fiction? If your family is completely original: Where did the Family name come from? What was your inspiration and who was the first OC you created for it?
Both surnames were chosen because they were Irish. O’Donnell is a popular surname in Donegal, and as the family is located in Donegal, it made sense. I do not remember why I chose the surname “Lynch.”
Technically, the first OCs created for it were Ryan and Sara. I had the HPHM game on two devices and the main characters were Ryan (who had multiple iterations before I settled on his final form) and Sara. However, it’s hard to separate their creation from the creation of Cara and Conor. The four of them are a packaged deal.
2.) Family Ties: What other families are related/connected to this one? Are they Canon families or creator made families? (Tag them!)
Aside from three canon HPHM families, all of the currently related families are my own design. Very few are actually developed, though. Now, here are the confirmed marriages:
Bain Lynch married Clodagh MacCarthy
Cillian Lynch married Orla O’Rourke
Tadhg Lynch married Niamh Kelly
Conor Lynch married Ciara Mallon
Ailis Lynch married Seán O’Donnell
Lorcan O’Donnell married Rose Boyle
Ryan O’Donnell married Penny Haywood
Cara O’Donnell married Rowan Khanna
Sara O’Donnell married Barnaby Lee
Conor O’Donnell married Ruth Lyman
3.) Foundations: What year and which OC was the founder of the family line? If the family goes back hundreds of years and you don’t know the first member, tell us about the oldest OC in the family you have created.
The Lynch family really came into existence in the early 1600s with a wizard named Cathal. However, my oldest developed OC is Bain, the abusive and neglectful father of Cillian and Tadhg who dies shortly before the twins’ 13th birthday.
The O’Donnell family goes back for hundreds of years, but the first known person was a man named John, who was born in 1835. However, my oldest developed OC is Lorcan O’Donnell, the quads’ beloved grandfather who died when they were five.
4.) Fun Facts: Do you have any misc lore you have that you haven’t had a chance to post about? Talk about anything you like!
For this, I’ve decided to expand a little on some of my other families as I can’t think of any Lynch or O’Donnell lore!
The Kennedy family’s political dynasty began during the regency period, when Dermot Kennedy gained a seat in the Wizengamot.
Max Pembroke passes by his cousins in the halls of Hogwarts, but never knows it. His mother was disowned for having the gall to marry a muggle sailor.
I’m still not quite sure about what happened to Edmund and Eleanora Whitten, but I know that a bog was involved.
The Battersea family’s surname changed over the years. No one has a record of what it first was though and the family’s exact roots are long forgotten.
5.) Free Space: Feel free to ask any creator a question not listed here and maybe you will get one in return!
Please send some in! I’ll work on getting some sent out, so please let me know if you’d like one! I’m also opening questions up for any of my other families, but I’d really like to try and stay with the O’Donnell and Lynch families.
