There was this hot piece of art by @illumi-nati-png on my dash and I went crazy in the tags (I'll delete that now) because now I want some dreamling with a blindfold like this

Hob runs afoul of a bad bunch of skinheads and after always beating them up worse than they expect when they try to bully him he finally gets kidnapped. He gets tied up and blindfolded and roughed up a bit, but before he can talk his way out there's an ominous presence in the room and people cry out in alarm and no-one tells him what's going on and he hears men scream and fall to the ground. This is before Dream has come back, they haven't met yet since 1889 so Hob has truly no inkling what is happening but he hopes whoever is rampaging through this place will help him get out. When finally footsteps near him Hob feels himself vibrating with excitement and anxiety. He can't move and can't see and so he timidly says „Um, hi? Could you untie me, please?“ and whoever stands before him leans closer. Hob can feel the presence closing in and then there suddenly is a cold but soft hand in his hair and cold silky lips on his and Hob gasps in surprise and whoever is kissing him inhales softly as well and hums a deep rumble like a cat and it's a voice Hob KNOWS, he knows who this voice belongs to and- his ties fall away and he reaches for the blindfold to pull it off quickly, he needs to see, he needs to know if this can truly be----but there is no-one there. He's alone in a cellar full of unconscious skinheads covered in sand. Hob gets out of there as fast as he can and gives the police an anonymous tip where to clean up.

And then begins Hob Gadling's quest to finally find his stranger.

It ends rather abruptly when he enters the New Inn half an hour later to find him sitting in a corner, watching Hob approach with glittering eyes and a small smirk.

„You’re late.“ the stranger says, and Hob grins from ear to ear.

on the importance of beta screaming

i would like to say a little bit here in this chili’s tonight about the vital, indispensible role of beta enthusiasm.

because yeah we all know we get tied in knots in our prose, write sex scenes with impossible numbers of hands, dangle modifiers, repeat words, commit horrifying typos like “he licks with his tounge.” i have several useless graduate degrees so yes i can fix all those things for you or offer revision suggestions. as well, i am a north american who lived in the uk and divorced a londoner, so i can also britpick or yankpick your fic. then, it’s important to have at least one beta who can check you if you’re writing about a culture other than your own. finally, i usually will only beta for fic with whose canon i am intimately familiar.

those things are helpful, even essential. but there is something else a beta reader not only can do, but has to do, and that is scream.

look it’s hard out here for a pimp okay. we are in our little offices or bedrooms or hunched on the bathroom floor with the phone just trying to write our little stories. we made a tiny gay man and we gave him problems, and now we are going to make it YOUR problem. and then we will all thrash around and yell happily together, for we love this tiny gay man.

but until someone picks that fic out of the tag and clicks on it and reads it and starts keysmashing in the comment box, you’re all alone. just you, in your head, in your room, while you’re walking around the park, while you’re shampooing your hair, while you’re cleaning the cat’s litter pan—it’s just you. (and, sure, also the imaginary friends who spout riveting or hilarious dialogue in your head. them too.)

and when you’re all alone with just your words and your little people, a terrible and completely unique kind of loneliness can sink in. were they the right words? were they funny, pretty, tragic, joyful, smart? do they truly convey the depth of your feeling? and above all else: can they compel someone else to feel what you felt? because you’ve read that fic that made you scream into a pillow at 2 am. and you wonder: can i do that for someone else? can i feel my feelings so strongly and so well that they reach out of the screen and haul someone else in along with them?

and in the hours, days, weeks of waiting for someone to reach back through the pixels for you, a beta steps in to fill that space. this, she will let you know, is good. this is REALLY good. this is so good she’s gonna dword. she has no chill. she is about to mclose it. how dare you. she thought you were friends. now you’re in a fight. elmo in flames dot gif., screaming girl dot png., spongebob burying himself dot webp.

this is not an OPTIONAL feature of a beta reader. this is not just a nice thing that it’s nice to have. this might be the ESSENTIAL function of a beta. her hand is over your head and it’s briefly sheltering you from the pouring rain. hey listen! she says, and she cups your face in her hands: SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP. and you, wherever you are in the world, even if you’re 24 hours away from her on the globe, you put your palms to your cheeks to feel the warm blush of happiness and relief. someone else is out there, picking up what you’re throwing down. and you did not fuck it up. it’s actually entirely possible that you nailed it.

without her, you wouldn’t know. and in fact in a small fandom, without her, there wouldn’t BE that much of a fandom. so you and your beta get to be a part of that little group of people who keep a set of stories, a family of characters, alive. that’s fun too. (plus you get to backchannel about all the horribly Wrong Opinions everyone else has. this both saves you from making an ass of yourself on social media, and will make you guffaw during a zoom meeting if you’re not careful.)

so get you a beta reader who’s a screamer. i said what i said. don’t settle for someone who can be nitpicky about the past perfect but who never says anything positive; people will remember and come to read the fic that’s stunning and strange and new even if you forget to use “had.”

i aim for about 50/50 between praise and suggestions (the same proportions i use as a professor), but if i’m honest it winds up being more like 80/20 for fanfic. that’s okay. if i’m gonna err, i’d rather err on the side of encouragement.

we get so little of that, either as writers or just in the world. we get so little hand-holding and shoulder rubs and affectionate hollering. so when you beta, think about letting loose a little. think about, sure, exaggerating for effect. you know how sweet it feels when someone gets all exuberant all over your drafts—so maybe allcaps a little bit, as a treat. it feels pretty great. you’ll see.

bringing a good screamer is like bringing an orgasm

lemme explain, without good ambiance, some story and somewhat believable environnement (exept if the whole scare of you media is to be unbelievable which is very scary and very possible but very hard to pull off) you won’t scare anyone with a png of a creepypasya and a loud scream

but with all the above and some time to put something intense you can scare with a cute cat pic

also you can edge people’s scare by lowering down the intensity of a scare and not ending it (death/screamer/etc…) and the next one will be even scarier

one time i had a dream where all these people were out in the yard walking past and working with lawnmowers and driving jerma cars DANGEROUSLY close to my legs but all of them looked so much like jerma and i thought i was going crazy i was scared and another time i had a dream where i was casting magic spells on objects and tiny dogs inside my house turningt them into scorpions and mice but i cast a spell on something and it turned into a gadzillion little jerma pngs that skittered across the floor like bugs on ice and i knew i had to escape the house because downstairs was a new jerma his name was GERMA and he was like rabid and covered in rabies foam and he STANK he SMELT BAD and he was threatening me at the bottom of the stairs and i did a flying kick btw i was the new cat actor for the new live action lady and the tramp movie but with cats and then he threw me up the stairs with a chair and it turned out he just really wanted my leftover rice so i said oyu can have it and i ran away outside but he was zipping in and out of hte house so fast and he was holding the philippines flag he was like chewing on it and getting the rabies all over it and i was trying to fly away i was flapping my arms it was like slow motion and i flew away but he kept screaming at me i felt like i was lost in the middle of a stadium or something

Cat Love

I have been a cat owner since April and I've begun to understand the quintessential love behind cats. If a cat loves you, you must be gentle and patient, because otherwise a cat will not give you the time of day. They're skiddish at sudden movements and loud noises and they don't respond to negative reinforcement to solve problematic behaviors. I adopted a cat that was said to be so bad around other people, but after earning his trust, he's now the type of cat to scream beside his food bowl when he thinks it's time to eat.

The change in when I first adopted him and he was wary of my living space versus now where he is comfortable with my things and his surroundings is astronomical. I was always told that cats were awful animals to have because they're so aloof and unfriendly, but I have found the total opposite. They want food, treats, playtime, and snuggles. I even met my grandfather's kitten and he was the sweetest and most gentle kitten ever. He wants the same things as my cat. They want love in a way that they understand it.

Dogs (which I have no hatred for, I love them and have owned a dog that I loved dearly) are treated much more positively stereotypically in terms of the effort that is put into them, but when that same kind of effort is placed into a cat, it is misunderstood. I can buy a million toys for a dog and it's making him happy, but when I buy perches and wand toys for a cat, it's excessive. Dogs need to be taken out multiple times a day for walks and to relieve themselves, but my cat stays indoors 24/7, sleeps 16 hours a day, and just needs the litterbox scooped once a day minimum.

I loved the dog I used to have and I loved putting in the effort for him because he was mine and I feel the same way about my cat. He's not high maintenance in relation toa dog's standards, they are just different standards. No, a cat doesn't need to be walked otuside for exercise. but mine does need a scratchpost and a wand toy (his favorite kind of toy) and be played with so he is happy and well stimulated. I think I trust people less when they say they hate cats because it seems that jsut because a cat does not bend to the every whim of you does not mean they can't be compliant or loving. My cat knows his name and will respond when gentle. My cat sleeps in bed with me every of his own volition. He has his own bed, but actively chooses not to sleep in it in favor in the pilow next to me.

Being loved by a cat makes me feel like I have at least done something right in my life to have earned his trust.

I really like Goat Simulator, and I can't wait for Goat Simulator 3, which, as of the time I am typing this, releases in a week. To commemorate the occasion, I have decided to provide a list of my favorite mutators from the first game and what they do.

With Demon Goat, you can essentially play Katamari. If you ragdoll, you will spin in donuts vertically upward.

Repulsive Goat allows you to blow everyone away by your smell, plus after you unlock it, you can hangout with knockoff versions of the ninja turtles. If you ragdoll, you fly and become a limb-stretched abomination.

Tornado Goat allows you to spin things around yourself. If you ragdoll, you will spin in donuts horizontally upward in intervals that are similar to the engine of a lawn mower starting.

Double Jump allows you to perform an extra jump in midair. It's really helpful and is unlocked when you first start the game.

Robot Goat turns you into a robot from Sanctum. I just really like the goofy smile.

Hitchhiker Goat is a reference to my most favorite book of all time, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". You gain a towel with the number 42 on it and the ability to make whales fall from the sky.

Goatborn is a reference to Skyrim. Goatborn allows you to perform a special scream that launches anything in range.

Deadgoa7 is a reference to Deadmau5. With Deadgoa7, you can trigger music that will make any humans start dancing on the spot!

Wheel Goat is exclusive to the MMO Simulator DLC. Wheel Goat allows you to stop time anytime you want. I like pairing this with Goatborn and gazing at the humans' lack of a spine!

Old Goat is exclusive to the MMO Simulator DLC. You are just straight up a Tyrannosaurus Rex. No need to elaborate on it further.

Good Goat and Father Goat are exclusive to the Waste of Space DLC and are also references to Star Wars. These two are kinda similar to Devil Goat. Good Goat pushes away and Father Goat pulls toward.

Milky Way Goat is exclusive to the Waste of Space DLC. You are a cow with the ability to levitate items in the air.

Professor Goat is exclusive to the Waste of Space DLC and a great tribute to Stephen Hawking. Professor Goat allows you to launch black holes. Entering the black hole on the Waste for Space map is a one-way ticket to the far reaches of space. Entering the black hole and ragdolling on other maps will cause your goat to completely freak out.

Dolph Spagetti is exclusive to the Payday DLC. Dolph Spagetti is a dolphin in a wheelchair that can pretty much scale any wall or ceiling with ease. As you can tell, this mutator is extremely helpful.

Rocket Attacher is exclusive to the Payday DLC. This mutator launches rockets that send any unsuspecting human, goat, or object careening into the sky. Launch enough rockets really quickly and you might even get some rocket attached to yourself!

Cat is exclusive to the Payday DLC. This makes PNG's of cats appear on the sides along with a meow sound effect.
