hello! I was wondering about QPR relationships? Like how do you know if it's a crush or smth like a huge huge friend likeness thing? And like some examples(if its fine!) Thank you!

Sorry for the late reply! Hmmm... I've talked about it before on this tag, and I can only ever really talk about my own experience, but I'll try to give examples that are as concrete as possible that sorta clue me in on the fact that it's not romance from what I can understand of my own situation :

I don't feel jealousy or possessiveness when it comes to my partner and it's mutual. We like spending time together but we're perfectly alright with the other spending their time with another person without getting worried about it. It doesn't feel lonely either – it's just nice to know they're vibing.

In fact we're very much encouraging each other not to put each other at the dead center of our own lives. It would feel like too much if that was the case.

If it ends someday, it'll feel lonely, sure, but not world-shattering. Not any more world-shattering than a friendship ending at least – which yeah, granted, IS pretty world-shattering, but it wouldn't get worse than that, at least as far as I can imagine.

I never really felt extra nervous towards my partner personally, like no heart-beating-faster kinda thing or losing sleep over it.

We have some physical affection, with boundaries, and pet names, with boundaries, but one of our favorite things past that is chatting and bursting into laughter over something we find funny mutually.

When I call them "my" something, I always feel the urgent need to specify "just as a matter of speech, 'cus you're not mine, you don't belong to me".

Also some two cents from my partner @civiart who was the one bringing up the fact they had a squish on me, and that I feel might be more useful:

They can see themselves having key life events with me, like moving in together or whatnot, or traveling together or such, but they have trouble picturing ourselves in typical "romantic situations" for what it's worth. They say that was helpful in figuring that out for themselves, although it was a year-long process in their case.

It doesn't depend on orientation strictly, since anyone from any orientation can have a squish, and some people on the aromantic spectrum can feel romantic attraction depending on their place on the spectrum.

One last thing I very much agree with: it's a very personal thing and at the end no one can make that call but yourself. It's about what feels right to you and what it feels right to label yourself as – if it feels right to use a label to you in the first place!

She stacked the last pancake on the plate she’d grabbed, before reaching into the fridge to get the syrup. Unscrewing the cap, she poured the golden liquid on generously, trailing thickly down the sides of the stack. The last touch was a few blueberries carefully placed in what she deemed to be flattering positions, and she stood back to admire her work on the kitchen counter. The sunlight was streaming through the windows now, bright light replacing the hazy glow of an hour prior when she’d woken up, having gotten out of bed soundlessly and slipped out while the mass of bedhead and deep breathing she loved laid sideways with hair splayed across his pillow.

Speaking of, just as she placed the plate on the table in front of his seat, the man in question came walking out of the bedroom still in his striped pajamas, with a groggy grin painting his face in shades of sunlight. She couldn’t help but match it with her own, full of mirth and warmth as she admired the sight that he was.

Kurt was perfect to her. Even with his shaggy hair and disheveled appearance, he was perfect.

Her trance was broken when he came closer, and she shook herself out of it, instead offering him an endearing smile as she waved him over to his seat.

Upon spotting the pancakes, he was slightly taken aback, but his grin was ever present as he pulled out his chair and sat down eagerly.

“Love… you didn’t have to do this.”

“I’m not hearing any of that. You deserve this. Now c’mon, seeing you happy is the best gift I could ask for.”

Her words seemed to melt something, as he let out a contented sigh, leaning his cheek on his palm and staring at her with an expression she couldn’t describe.

The sun was high in the sky now, bathing the room in quiet warmth as they enjoyed each other’s presence.

scenario :

it was one of those lazy sunday afternoons in seattle. the sun shining bright through the open window even though the day was coming to an end. you and kurt were both huddled up on your shared bed as kurt smoked a cigarette, some ash falling onto the sheets at times.

the tv was on, showing an old movie that kurt had put on. however the two of you weren't even watching it.

the comfortable silence broke when kurt put out his cigarette on an ashtray on the bedside table. "wanna play a game?" as he turned to you he already had a big grin on his face.

you raise an eyebrow at him curiously, tracing small patterns over his ribs with your fingertips. "what kind of game?"

"a staring contest." kurt declares with a smirk, giving away that he was up to something.

"a staring contest? really kurt?" you laugh lightly. "what are you planning..."

"nothing, just c'mon..." he sits up and pulls you up to sit up too. "please? whoever wins gets to choose what we do for the rest of the day." once he says the last part, you agree. you sit up slightly straighter to look down at him as he didn't have the best posture.

"okay on three..." kurt says, holding up his fingers. "one, two, three." the two of you locked eyes and the contest began. you just stared into his blue eyes.

as you did, all the moments of the two of you rushed to your head and you just got lost in them. for a few moments, neither of you moved. all to be heard was the faint chatter of the still going movie.

"you're gonna lose..." kurt whispers teasingly, his eyes never leaving your's, not even for a measley milisecond.

"no way." you held back your chuckle, not wanting to get distracted. you could easily tell that he was trying to distract you. that was made more obvious when he leaned closer to you, barely leaving any space between the two of you.

"lost in my eyes?" he teases once again, you could smell the cigarette he had smoked earlier that lingered on his breath.

you felt your heart rate quicken as you feel his breath on your cheek. even though you had been together for almost a year you never got rid of those butterflies that you got around him.

finally, after what felt like an eternity, your eyes began to sting. despite your best efforts, you couldn't hold out any longer. you blinked, and kurt's triumphant laugh filled the room.

"ha! knew it!" he exclaims happily, like he had won the most important game of his life. "i win!"

you couldn't help but laugh along with him. "alright, you win. what do you want to do?"

instead of answering right away, kurt scooted closer, his eyes locked onto yours but now filled with a different kind of intensity. his hands cupped your face gently, and he leaned in, his breath warm against your lips.

"how about this?" he whispered, just before closing the remaining distance and capturing your lips in a tender kiss. kurt's lips were soft and his kiss was both gentle and passionate, filled with all the love and affection he held in his heart for you.

as you pulled back slightly, your foreheads resting together, he mutters short of breath. "perfect..."

A/N: I wrote this crumb-not-really-a-crumb a while back but never posted it because I didn't think it was good enough. Turns out I haven't been productive in AGES so you guys can have this lol 😭 keep in mind it's unedited and probably wasn't supposed to see the light of day. And to all my other pending requests, IM REALLY SORRY for the delay and I promise I'm working on them 😭 just don't get your hopes up too high and expect them any time very soon. Sorry again :(

They pressed the button on their telephone, playing back the message that was causing the blinking light. As soon as they heard Kurt's voice they smiled. They looked forward to the daily updates they could wake up to every morning, as it was one of the fewer ways they could contact Kurt while he was on tour.

"Hey love! I know you'll probably be sleeping or out with your friends so I'm uh, leaving a message. Things've been going fine here, I guess. Nothing much to report. Y'know what actually there is, Krist damaged himself onstage again but that's nothing new so," a pause, "You know that big show we have tomorrow night? I think it's being broadcasted live... you should tune in. Looking forward to being home off this fucking drag. Hope you watch the show. Miss you."

The last part was more of a whisper, but they still picked up on it before the sound of the phone being placed back on its holder, and they couldn't control their smile. They were more than ready for Kurt to be home too. By far.It was a weekend, so they amused themself with hobbies and random activities for most of the day, even managing to be a little productive. It's a wonder what a good night's sleep and high spirits can do. But when it came to be evening all tasks were dropped in favor of curling up under a blanket on the couch, eating some snacks and watching the tv.

Sure enough the Nirvana show was about to be on. The channel did the thing where they excessively tease something they're going to show anyways, but it was okay, because it meant they could marvel at the beautiful, professional shots and video clips taken of Kurt. He was photogenic regardless of if he liked it or not.

Finally it began. The show started normally, set tight and not much crowd interaction between. In fact, they didn't think the band had said a single spoken word to the crowd three songs in.

They understood it. He was probably quite fatigued from all the touring. Just listening to his voice in general was enough. Though they were surprised when the band stopped, and Kurt started taking into the microphone.

"These next ones, and this show in general..." He stopped to squint at and survey the crowd as he caught his breath, "this is dedicated to my wonderful partner." He said with an air of seriousness. The crowd roared at that. "I know they're probably watching at home right now." A hint of a smile tugged at his lips, "probably sitting on the green couch, under our purple blanket..." They looked down at their exact position and laughed. Kurt knew what he was talking about. "Probably eating something too, yeah?" The full smile came out now, as he looked right at the camera. "You'll have to tell me when I get home."

With a last, sweet smile, the band went back to paying.But they say on the couch feeling full of warmth. Even a million miles away, hours off in time zones with all sorts of foreign excitement... he was still thinking of them.
