I made a story that is kinda this, not sure I shared it here but feast DevilDice / monster lovers.

Though it is kinda both because it is about hiding/masking what/who you are and then embracing it in the end when you find people who are going through something similar. There is no “losing yourself” just the fear of rejection of the “monster” when you are unable to mask anymore and turning that into self-hatred even if nothing is wrong with you.

Idk, I’m bad at explaining, read it if you’re interested or skip, oop.
