Scorchstone Golems

this was kind of a random idea I had but it would fit with a future NeoQuest or some sort of RPG like that set in the Neopets universe- I find golems in DnDesque settings to be fascinating and the idea of one being grown out of a Scorchstone really appealed to me. Maybe these could be the foundation for a future homebrew monster for the upcoming tabletop game, I dunno!

this is specific but what do you think of cats using clan prefixes or suffixes, ie shadowsight and scorchwind? it always felt a bit blasphemous to me and although i dont think their names should change, i always wanted it to be acknowledged in canon that they were being given a Paricularly Important name. in the case of scorchwind, who has zero connections to windclan, i felt it was a strange name choice. i guess i just like to feel like the leaders/mothers choose names with intention and not just bc they sound cool! thoughts?

I'm pretty all right with them, I used to not enjoy them as much when I was younger for similar reasons... and then I thought about it, and like,

The Clans get their names from their founders, right? How many people do you know just, named after celebrities or historical figures? I knew a guy whose first name was George and his middle name was Washington. Jesus, Mary, Daniel, those are Biblical.

Hell, kids get named America, if they do just see their Clan as more of a nation. Norman just means "guy from the north."

And the suffixes make sense too, ShadowClan doesn't think of their Clan as like, being elemental and shadows are The Best Element. Shadows are a sneaky kind of concept though and they do value that thing, but not like... enough to say that no one is worthy of being commended for their particular sneakiness.

Alllll that said though I do, actually, dislike Scorchwind's name. He's not FAST or anything, you know? He's not... windy idk. He's a big man like his brother Raggedpelt, he should be like, Scorchstone or Scorchblaze.

His name in particular seemed random and I do like it when a name has a meaning, you get me?

Dauntless Drabble I Found In My Google Docs

The hunt was her life. It was everything. It ensured the Shattered Isles lived to thrive another day without fear of collapsing for good. Fragilehyena dedicated her life to being a Slayer despite it being one of the most dangerous professions she could’ve chosen. As the sun beat down on the back of her neck and her lungs heaved the air saturated with the stench of ancient forests, she threw herself to the side. A thorn-covered tail the width of a tree trunk phased though her with enough force to shatter boulders. But the split second of invulnerability saved her that fate. As the tail continued its path, the body attached to it sank its claws into the earth for purchase against the momentum’s force. Its head, stationary at the moment as it executed its tail attack, didn’t bother to hold back its near silent hiss of frustration at the miss.

Because she wasn’t blown back, she needed no recovery time before launching herself at the Behemoth’s head, proud antlers of dark teal branches with tips glowing of Aetheric power jutting from the mane of fur at its brow. As she slashed her sword with all the force she could muster, landing blow after blow, she had two thoughts on her mind. The first, she needed the Behemoth’s antlers and vinetooth broken from the head. The second, deal as much damage as possible while taking very little in turn. Focus on the head. Do not hold back. This island was not known for easy prey, only Slayers with recommended maximum skill were allowed to embark for valid reasons.

Even Fragilehyena, who was no stranger to her weapons, could not defeat any of the island’s Behemoths on her own. She followed the flow of the current hunting party already occupying it, contributing her skill to the pool and slaying each beast all that much faster. There was one purpose for her venture here, and that was to summon the bird of metal and flame. Its arrival was preceded by a flock of Shrikes, which she prioritized hunting for their Soulshards, a rare drop. Unfortunately, that summoning was an event that required the opening of valves scattered around the island. They couldn’t be opened without slaying the Behemoths guarding them.

Yet no matter how many hits she landed on the Behemoth, it would not die. Its health still pulsed strongly in its body despite the Danger Level reaching critical status. It was too late. A minute into the battle with the danger already so high, even the entire party on the island couldn’t defeat the Behemoth in time. A final swipe of its tail, this time landing square on Fragile’s chest to knock her several meters back, led to the Behemoth staring at the struggling team of Slayers one last time before drawing back like a bowstring and flying underground like a shot through a tangle of thorny vines. While Fragile stumbled to her feet, pain fading with a few powerful throbs, the tunnel of thorns disintegrated into Aether and mulch, leaving nothing but a patch of disturbed dirt as testament that a Behemoth was ever there.

While not the first failed hunt, it always stung just as badly. To put forth the effort and time to slay a great foe only for those tears and blood shed to be all for nothing? After a Behemoth escaped, there was no reward. No Rams, as little per slaying as they were. No parts, since the Behemoth lived. No recovering the health and items lost for that battle, nothing to make the sacrifice of resources worth it. The collective embarrassment shared among the party. ‘All my efforts to be a cool, experienced Slayer only to make a fool of myself? We hardly know each other, but my failure is a blemish for everyone to see.’

That Koshai was far from the first of its kind to be slain by Fragilehyena’s hand, so its escape made the salt in her wounded pride hurt all the more. The negative feelings only lingered long enough for Fragile to find and confront the next Behemoth. A Scorchstone Hellion bellowed, hard molten plates rippling in harsh scrapes along its back as its haunting yellow eyes seared into her own with their glow. Only one more valve to open before the fire bird could be summoned. She had to make this one count.

"Hmph! Just stay on your side, ThunderClan."

The ShadowClan warrior— apprentice more likely— spat, lips peeled into a growl. Trying their darndest to be at least a bit intimidating, (but really, they kind of just seem akin to a wet cat rather than scary...)

As another ShadowClan warrior appeared from behind. Looking down at the much shorter cat, ice-blue eyes that the other really should've felt from how intense they were. Then looking at Brightheart.

"Mousepaw. Why are you wasting your time with this ThunderClanner? You have an assessment to do."

Mousepaw froze, looking up at the taller cat shrowded in the shadows.

"S-Scorchstone...- I was just protecting ShadowClan from this ThunderClan cat—"

"Don't make excuses. You've wasted enough daylight already, go. Or I'll fail you right now."

With that, Mousepaw scampered off, ready to follow through to Scorchstone's orders, though Scorchstone was still, looking at Brightheart.

"Hm. It seems our clans have both lost prey from that meaningless exchange. Though I do hope you stay on your side."

Brightheart opened her mouth to say something, but was interrupted by the warrior. She watches their interaction, and when the ShadowClan cat turns to her, she bows her head to show respect for the other warrior.

"Hello, Scorchstone."

Brightheart takes a step closer to the borderline, her tone calm but firm.

"Maybe so, but it didn't make ThunderClan any weaker. I recommend teaching your apprentices that you don't have to always growl at every cat that comes near the boundary. And don't worry, ThunderClan won't cross your border unless important matters require it."

She scoops up the prey she has caught, ready to move away and continue her duties.

REX RUINFANG is kinda too fuck-ugly to be based on any real cat jdkfjhlk;sdfh but i can totally see caracal or a liiitle bit of mountain lion

CASSIUS CACKLECLAW is based on hyenas - mostly spotted hyenas but a couple pictures of striped hyenas suit him too!! but i also like this specific picture of a king cheetah for him cos of the mullet it's rocking

CLAUDIUS RIMEHEART is an albino lion!! but if the albino lion got icebrooded kfjdsldjldhd

FURIA SCORCHSTONE isn't really based on any real cat either but i can totally see snow leopard for her just . with no spots fldjdldj

What cat, big, small, wild, domestic, etc. are your guys charr based on / inspired by, if any?

Aikarico is a mix of mountain lion and snow leopard!!

Oof girl doesn’t get angry easy. Sad? Nostalgic? Depressed? Self-pity? All those come easy. But anger? Shit takes a lot to get mama mad. It’s usually when she comes to the defense of those close to her- y’all talking shit about our good boys Mako or Rowan? You’re getting a stern talking to and bitter looks for moons. Or anything involving kits. Whether it’s someone loosing them (you know who you are 👁), harming them, or causing them distress will have Tender up your ass in a minute with some very passive aggressive remarks if not a rare hiss. Also kits straight up disobeying her and doing something dangerous. Being a monarch, she’s incredibly patient, but expressly going against her words and putting themselves in harms way will really get her riled up.

🥩 - what’s your character’s diet like? what are their favorite and least favorite foods?: Scorchstone

Meat! Mans is,,, BIG!! He needs lots of protein to keep them muscles. His favorite though is rabbit. He really likes it for their pelts, though. He’s a sucker for soft things, and it makes for great nest lining. Least favorite? Birds. They take way too long to pluck, and often times they’re pretty small. He’d rather have less tedious prey, thank you very much.

🧸 - does your character have a specific object that soothes them?: Garclaw

Technically not yet- but he WILL be swapping gifts with a certain someone sometime soon 👀 but in the meantime! He is quite the little treasure hunter- mostly collecting shells, cool rocks, or pearls if he’s lucky (those being his favorite), but he doesn’t like to hoard them. He’ll usually leave them in easier places for others to find, or give the especially cool ones to friends. So if you DO earn the coveted titled of “Friend”, you can be sure to expect little gifts to pop up suddenly in your nest randomly.

🎨 - does your character have a unique skill that sets them apart from others?: Flaxfrost

Mans is very keen on observation. He likes to make a guessing game of cats he comes in contact with about what they’re like based on their physicality and appearance. This does make him judgmental at the worst of times, though, or incredibly kind at the best as he’s sure to notice something you never even noticed about yourself.

🎵 - what kind of music would your character listen to? do you have any playlists for them?: Tranquil Rainforest

Based on their name alone- I’m sure you can make a good guess! My thoughts are mostly leaning towards otherworldly, fae-like sounds. Something calm and lulling. Folk as well! Plus, I often associate them with the sound of a dusty old piano and rain, so adding those in is a bonus, haha!

Dauntless patch notes: “Skraev weapons now all drop 1 / 2 / 3 mines (instead of sometimes dropping 2 / 4 / 6). Mine damage has also been reduced to 300 (from 600) in order to match the numbers reflected in the weapon descriptions."

Dear goddamn developers...

... for ruining great weapons. Skraev Chain Blades was my absolute favorite weapon that saved me lots and you blew it.
