this is specific but what do you think of cats using clan prefixes or suffixes, ie shadowsight and scorchwind? it always felt a bit blasphemous to me and although i dont think their names should change, i always wanted it to be acknowledged in canon that they were being given a Paricularly Important name. in the case of scorchwind, who has zero connections to windclan, i felt it was a strange name choice. i guess i just like to feel like the leaders/mothers choose names with intention and not just bc they sound cool! thoughts?

I'm pretty all right with them, I used to not enjoy them as much when I was younger for similar reasons... and then I thought about it, and like,

The Clans get their names from their founders, right? How many people do you know just, named after celebrities or historical figures? I knew a guy whose first name was George and his middle name was Washington. Jesus, Mary, Daniel, those are Biblical.

Hell, kids get named America, if they do just see their Clan as more of a nation. Norman just means "guy from the north."

And the suffixes make sense too, ShadowClan doesn't think of their Clan as like, being elemental and shadows are The Best Element. Shadows are a sneaky kind of concept though and they do value that thing, but not like... enough to say that no one is worthy of being commended for their particular sneakiness.

Alllll that said though I do, actually, dislike Scorchwind's name. He's not FAST or anything, you know? He's not... windy idk. He's a big man like his brother Raggedpelt, he should be like, Scorchstone or Scorchblaze.

His name in particular seemed random and I do like it when a name has a meaning, you get me?

Scorchwind! Even though I'm making my way through Shadowclan's allegiances from Into the Wild forward I wanted to do the rest of Rowanstar's family. Scorchwind is Rowans father according to the family tree, which I think is fine though there is no canon evidence that Darkflower and Scorchwind are even alive during the same timelines. He appears in the prequel super editions, and we don't know when or how he dies, but he resides in Starclan according to the family tree.

He is Raggedstar's littermate, and in Yellowfang's SE they are both teased about being 'kittypets'. Scorchpaw cares less about his heritage than he does about his clanmate's treating him like a warrior, Raggedpelt himself relating that "scorchpaw doesn't care" about finding out who their father is, and isn't present when Raggedstar confronts and kills Hal. He is intensely loyal and tries very hard to prove himself to be all Shadowclan, sometimes to a reckless degree, in using claws 'accidentally' during training and when defending the clan against competing animals in the forest, saying he would flay a badger that has hurt Raggedpelt and spread it's guts from there to twolegplace. When Red and Boulder join Shadowclan he is initially very condescending to them treating them like 'kittypets' but eventually becomes friendly to them, and is seen a few times conversing competitively with Boulder. When Raggedstar is killed, he is devastated, and is the first to talk about revenge on Windclan.

there is a small reflection in Blackstar's novella that says he was present in the raid on Thunderclan for their kits, but this is unsubstantiated by the Main Series and I personally don't count it as canon. He was mentored by Crowtail, and had an apprentice but due to the passage it's unclear whether it was Blackstar, Fernshade, or Flintfang.

For Scorchwind’s name change, may I put in Scorchbreeze as a suggestion, there’s also Scorchfang.

Depending on what you want his skill set or personality to be like.

Scorchfang is actually pretty cool.

Honestly he's a bit of a background character so his personality is up for interpretation. I picture him as being kind of stoic and scary looking so Scorchfang actually might fit pretty well.

Hello, I'm working on ShadowClan cats' designs and I want to change Scorchwind's. I changed Runningwind's name to Runningfoot because he had no association with WindClan and I realized I need to do the same with Scorchwind.

Basically, what should I change Scorchwind's suffix to?

Scorch: glaring angrily so… it’s true you killed him.. your father… you not only killed your mother you killed your father!

Broken: I have no mother!

Scorch: no… you do.. or you did before you killed her for the kits that you killed… yellowfang was your mother but raggedstar didn’t want to ruin her life so kept her a secret…

Or at least something like that before scorch smites him

Might have to write a short about that confrontation. Fireheart isn't exactly paying attention to Scorchwind until he hears the rogues freaking out XD

Yellowfang had to die but she was never forced to kill her own son and Raggedstar apologized for being a bitch so I'm counting that as her happy ending. She also gets to raise Hopekit and Wishkit.
