Back to School Tips for Parents
The summer days are winding down, and the time for backpacks, school supplies, and early mornings is upon us once again. This time of year can be both exciting and challenging. As parents, the transition from carefree summer days to the structured routine of school can be a bit daunting for both you and your children. However, with the right strategies and a positive outlook, you can make the back-to-school season a smooth and exciting experience.
Here are some invaluable tips to help you prepare for a successful return to school: 1. Start the Sleep Routine Early: During the relaxed summer months, bedtimes and wake-up times might have become more flexible. It's important to gradually readjust your child's sleep schedule a couple of weeks before school starts. Gradually moving bedtime and wake-up time earlier each day can help prevent the shock of sudden early mornings. 2. Start Early: Procrastination can add unnecessary stress to the back-to-school process. Begin preparations well in advance. Create a checklist of everything your child needs, from school supplies to clothing and lunchbox essentials. Starting early allows you to spread out tasks and avoid last-minute rushes. 3. Create a Family Calendar: Get organized with a shared family calendar that includes school schedules, extracurricular activities, appointments, and any other commitments. This helps everyone stay on the same page and minimizes last-minute surprises. 4. Shop for Supplies Together: Make the back-to-school shopping experience a fun family outing. Involve your child in selecting school supplies, backpacks, and clothing. This not only helps them feel excited about the upcoming school year but also ensures that they have items they like and are comfortable using. Pack school bags the night before. This not only makes mornings smoother but also teaches your child about responsibility and organization. 5. Set Up a Designated Homework Area: Designate a quiet and well-lit space in your home for homework and studying. Having a dedicated area can help your child focus and concentrate on their schoolwork, making homework time more productive. 6. Discuss Goals and Expectations: Have an open conversation with your child about their goals for the upcoming school year. Whether it's improving grades, participating in sports, or making new friends, understanding their aspirations can help you provide the necessary support and encouragement. 7. Prepare Healthy Lunches: Pack nutritious lunches and snacks to fuel your child's day. Involve them in planning and packing their lunches, giving them a sense of ownership over their meals. This can also be an opportunity to teach them about healthy eating habits. 8. Re-Establish Routines: Summer schedules are often become more relaxed. Reintroduce routines that might have taken a back seat during the summer break. This includes regular mealtimes, reading before bed, and limiting screen time. Consistent routines provide a sense of stability and security for children. 9. Address Back-to-School Anxiety: It's normal for children to feel a mix of excitement and anxiety about returning to school. Encourage open conversations about their feelings and listen to their concerns. Validate their emotions and provide reassurance that they are not alone in their worries. 10. Attend Orientation Events: If the school offers orientation events, open houses, or meet-the-teacher sessions, make an effort to attend with your child. Familiarizing them with their new classroom and meeting their teacher can ease first-day jitters. 11. Stay Positive and Encouraging: Starting a new school year can bring about mixed emotions for children. Your attitude towards the back-to-school transition can greatly influence your child's perspective. Be positive, enthusiastic, and optimistic about the new school year. Share your own back-to-school stories and memories to create a sense of connection. Encourage a positive attitude by discussing the exciting aspects of school, like making new friends and learning new things. Be empathetic to any anxieties your child may have and offer reassurance. 12. Limit Overscheduling: While extracurricular activities are important, avoid overscheduling your child with too many commitments. Balancing school, homework, and leisure time is crucial for their well-being and academic success. 13. Be Patient and Flexible: Transitions take time. Understand that there may be some bumps along the way as everyone adjusts to the new routine. Be patient with yourself and your child, and be willing to make adjustments as needed. Flexibility is key. Adapt to challenges as they arise and maintain a sense of humor. Your calm and adaptable demeanor will set a great example for your child. 14. Talk about Safety: Safety is paramount, especially for younger children. Review safety rules with your child, whether they walk to school, take the bus, or are dropped off. Teach them about stranger danger and ensure they know how to contact you in case of emergencies. 15. Encourage Independence: As your child gets older, encourage them to take on more responsibilities. Teach them important life skills like time management, organization, and problem-solving. This independence will serve them well in school and beyond. 16. Be Involved: Stay involved in your child's education. Build a positive relationship with your child's teachers from the start. Attend school events and participate in parent-teacher organizations if possible. Your active engagement shows your child that you value their education and can positively impact their school experience. This can help you stay informed about your child's progress and address any concerns promptly. 17. Review Academic Goals: Discuss your child's academic goals for the upcoming year. Encourage them to set realistic targets and offer your support in achieving them. Setting goals can boost motivation and provide a sense of purpose. The back-to-school season can be a whirlwind, but with careful planning and a supportive approach, it can also be a time of growth and excitement for both you and your child. It’s the season that marks a fresh start and a new chapter in your child's academic journey. By getting a good head start the right way, you will be open to more opportunities for growth and learning that the new school year brings!

Welcome to my studyblr!!
I’ve had this blog for quite a while but I haven’t really had the motivation to post anything yet. I’m going to be using it this year to help keep myself accountable for balancing my school work along with band and theatre!
A bit about me: My name is Mackenzie and I’m 15. My favorite color is blush pink and I am a Leo! I am the lead lighting designer at my high school this year, which is a bit nerve racking but I’m excited for it! I also play flute in my schools concert band and marching band, this year our show theme is Les Miserables! I work and ride horses at my local hunter/jumper barn as well, when I’m not drowning in homework/rehearsals.
A bit about my schoolwork: this year my courses include PreAP English 2, AP World History, Technical theatre 2, Advanced production theatre, Wind Ensemble Band, PreAP Algebra 2, and PreAP Chemistry! My favorite subject is history but I also enjoy reading! I am currently reading “Watched” by Marina Budhos for the project I will have to do at the beginning of the school year:)
I have been inspired by @emmastudies @erasign @study-matters @studyquill, and @eintsein, amongst many others!

Getting the kids ready for school is never easy. So I try to do a lot of prep work during the weekend. One way is pre-selecting the kids clothes. Including sweatshirt, t shirt, socks, and pants. I used 99 cent store shoe boxes and label them with the days of the week. That way, every morning is much quicker. What do you do to make life easier and quicker? #mommitipsntricks #gettingready #gettingreadyforschool #quicktricks #schoolprep #momlife #momchores #momplanner #schoolweek #schooldays #schooldays📚 https://www.instagram.com/p/CNgpPsSrBVU/?igshid=10fknsrgo9exm

What is your homeschool prep like? For our lives, I find that it helps when I prepare for school the night before. Or if I have time on Sundays, I prepare as much as I can for as many lessons possible. For the junior kindergarten kids, we use @memoriapress , I don’t need much prep except to put the books I need, in my book bin. The curriculum is phonic heavy with lots of listening and reading but some paper cutting and coloring. I separate that from the curriculum entirely and sometimes do randomly throughout the day, instead of within the schedule. The kids love all the books and have really taken to the rhyming from poems but not so much the songs. For my part, I don’t think I’ve introduced enough music, so that might be why they’re not so into the music. What I’m finding over all is that my prep is long term. I only do parts of laminating as I go, which means I also only do small sections of cutting, as needed. It helps to not be overwhelmed. I make time to find things that I can use around the house that will lend itself to organizing my curriculum. The box in the picture was a full box of sour gummy‘s that my husband bought. While I don’t think it’s a great idea to have that many gummy’s in our house for no particular reason (while I’m on @ww ) except that my children like them, I did find a great use for that box! I cut it up and tossed the complete set of alphabet flash cards inside. Between lessons, as a craft, I’m going to let the little kids decorate it. I think there’s this weird well of creativity that keeps getting filled in me. It’s like I’m always thinking of new things to do to or build, to make learning fun for our kids and to make my life easier. Aside from that new realization, I have also come to understand that I probably drink more coffee than I ever have, in my entire life. I think I’ll try some water today... with a side of coffee. #honestandunbiasedblog #chicago #blogger #homeschooling #latinx #mpchicago #schoolprep #memoriapress #organized #memoriapressjrkindergarten #lesswaste #Christian #christianbookbloggers https://www.instagram.com/p/CGAP63lpNHF/?igshid=oih609zd2pi8

TO INFINITY AND BEYOND 🚀 💫 ⠀ .⠀ I found this little gem in @therangeuk the other week and thought it would be perfect to help Tyler get ready school in a few weeks!⠀ .⠀ I think it’s really great that it has characters Tyler recognises as well, it makes him much keener to sit down and practice his letters and numbers. ⠀ .⠀ I think the biggest motivation is the gold stars he gets to stick on his reward chart in the back of the book. He gets 1 star for every page he completes. ⭐️ ⠀ .⠀ There is also a whole section to practice what he has already learnt. We love this book, and need to get sat down to carry on learning so he has a helping hand when starting school. ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #pbloggers #pblogger #instamumuk #childhoodunplugged #ukmumblog #mynameismama #parentingblogger #mumbloggeruk #ukbloggers #mommylife #mumbossuk #schoolprep #motherandson #getreadyforschool #happychildren #happykids #mummybloggers #motherhoodinspired #mummylife #ukblogger #dailyparenting #ukbloggersquad #schoolpreparation #lifeasmama #ukparentingblog #mommybloggers #mummybloggeruk #ukparentblogger #ukmummyblogger #bloggeruk (at Colchester, Essex) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEPpTGalx-Z/?igshid=pybgvv8rl671

I made these little cards as part of the boys Spanish but I'm going to use these with the boys each day, possibly in the morning and evening, so the boys can easily tell/show me how they are feeling. Following @missdanielle321 mummy take over on @thrivingmummas where she spoke about the importance of discussing children's emotions I am making a conscious effort to do this more with the boys. At my boys age it is hard for them to express their feelings and most of the time with my two, frustration and upset comes out as anger and although this is a natural emotion, I don't want their default emotion to be anger. . #spanish #homeschooling #emotions #feelings #dontfilterfeelings #bankholiday #schoolprep #monday #flashcards #mumofboys #mumlife #mumsofinstagram #quarantine #isolation #Covid #stayhome #lockdown #london #learnandplay #learnthroughplay #playandlearn #nursery #reception #workingmum https://www.instagram.com/p/CAn8XO5niBl/?igshid=pouqnlgieldv
