DP x DC: The Most Dangerous Card Game
Ok so Danny has essentially claimed earth as his. And he is fully aware that there are constant threats to the planet. Now he can’t stop a threat that originates on earth (that’s something he’ll leave to the Justice league) but he can do something about outside threats. Doing some research on ancient spells, rituals, and artifacts, he cast a world wide barrier on the planet to protect it from hostile threats so they cannot enter. This will prevent another Pariah Dark incident. However, barriers like this come at a price. You see, there are two ways to make a barrier. Either make one powered up by your own energy and power (which would be constantly draining) or set up a barrier with rules. The way magic works is that nothing can be absolutely indestructible. It must have a weakness. The most powerful barriers weren’t the ones reinforced with layer after layer of protective charms and buffed up with power. Those could eventually be destroyed either by being overpowered, wearing them down, or by cutting off the original power source. No, the most powerful barriers were the ones with a deliberate weakness. A barrier indestructible except for one spot. A cage that can only be opened from the outside. Or that can only be passed with a key or by solving a riddle. So Danny chooses this type of barrier and does the necessary ritual and pours in enough power to make it. And he adds his condition for anyone to enter.
Now the Justice league? Find out about the barrier when Trigon attempts to attack, they were preparing after he threatened what he would do once he got to earth. How he would destroy them. The Justice league tried to take the fight to him first but were utterly destroyed, so they retreated home to tend to their injuries, and fortify earth for one. Last. Stand. Only when Trigon makes his big entrance…he’s stopped.
The Justice league watch in awe as this thin see-through barrier with beautiful green swirls and speckled white lights like stars apears blocking Trigon and his army’s advance. The barrier looks so thin and fragile yet no matter how hard the warlord hits, none of his attacks can get through and neither can he damage said barrier. That’s when Constantine and Zatanna recognizes what this barrier is. Something only a powerful entity could create. For a moment, the league is filled with hope that Trigon can’t get through yet Constantine also explains that it’s not impenetrable. And clearly Trigon knows this too for he calls out a challenge.
And that’s when, in a flash of light, a tiny glowing teenager appears. He looked absolutly minuscule compared to Trigon and yet practically glowed with power (this isn’t a King Danny AU though).
And that is when the conditions for passing the barrier are revealed. And the Justice realize that the only thing stopping Trigon and his army from decimating earth. The only way he can get through….is by beating this glowing teenager in a card game.
Not just any card game though. The most convoluted game Sam, Danny, and Tucker invented themselves. It’s like the infinite realms version of magic the gathering, combined with Pokémon, and chess. And Danny is the master. So sit down Trigon and let’s play.
(The most intense card game of the Justice league’s life).
After Danny wins, this happens a few more times with outer word beings and possibly even demons attempting to invade earth, yet none have been able to beat the mysterious teenager in a card game. Constantine might even take a crack at it and try to figure out how to play. He’s really bad though. Every time this happens, the Justice league worry that this might be the time the teenager looses. Yet every time, he wins (even if only barely).
Meanwhile, Danny, Sam, and Tucker have gotten addicted to the game and play it almost daily. Some teachers might seem them playing the game are are like ‘awww how cute’ not realizing this game is literally saving the world. Jazz is just happy they aren’t spending as much time on their screens playing Doomed.
#DPxDC#Kizzer55555 ideas#Danny makes a card game to save the world.#Technically he worded the ritual so that they had to ‘beat’ him as those are the most powerful barriers and most reliable.#keys can just get lost or stolen (like the one to Pariah’s Coffin)#A riddle would be useless once someone figured out the answer. Like how no one takes the sphynx seriously anymore.#(Sorry Tuck. But it’s true).#And there is NO WAY Danny is just leaving a hole open for anyone to pass through. No thank you!#So…beating him. But it’s not like Danny wanted to fight so…he edited the ritual a TINY bit. Card games are good. Much less painful too.#Danny Tucker and Sam made the most complicated card game they could imagine.#It’s based on their strategies for fighting ghosts. Capturing them in thermoses. And MUCH based on a on field battle strategy.#It often requires spontaneous thinking on the spot. So Danny? In his ELEMNT. It doubles as practice for his actual ghost battles too.#They had SO much fun making this.#Sam added an entire series of plant cards that act as traps and healing ointments and duds that just take up the field.#Tucker added legitimate hyroglyphics combined with Latin as well as English and ghost speak.#Yes. You actually have to speak that language to play. With proper pronunciation. (Amity Parker’s think the three are talking gibberish.)#I headcanon Sam and Tucker are fluent in Ghost.#Constantine WILL figure this game out SO HELP HIM!#Some of the cards also have combinations related to constellations either in name or placement on the board.#By the way the board is based on a Hexagonal summoning circle with Rhunes along the edges#And the placement of the cards on the board and on what rhune MATTERS.#Also the cards move disintegrate and have certain abilities. Think of Harry Potter Wizard Chess.#But they are normal when Danny plays at school. This is just for ✨effect✨ Against invaders.#Danny faces multiple opponents. He also halts alien invasions.#While Danny COULD stop crime on earth he’s not sure how to fight a normal human and hold back so he sticks to ghosts.#The Justice league are going crazy trying to figure out who this entity is and after deep research are convinced this is some sort of#Ancient being who has protected earth for millenia. They have paintings on ruins and everything.#Danny is not aware they think this.#Raven starts praying to Danny as if he is a god and wrangles the other Teen Titans into doing so as well. Danny is still unaware of this.#Danny is not a King or an ancient. Just a very VERY strong ghost.

on reconstruction and historical linguistics
to follow up on today's reblog, i want to comment briefly on the apparent misapprehension that linguistic reconstruction is just guesswork with a fancy name, because that's not accurate!
reconstruction is based on specific, well-attested constraints of linguistic development. we know from centuries of investigation that languages tend to change in predictable ways. we also have a decent understanding of the complexities introduced by phenomena like language contact, which can result in borrowing on multiple structural levels. our methods are well established and borne out by evidence.
comparative reconstruction involves applying these known constraints ("rules") in reverse on a collected body of words in related descendant languages. when possible, we also incorporate historical written evidence, which often provides midpoint references for changes in progress. it is always recognized by historical linguists that reconstruction can be imperfect; we cannot know what information has been lost.
the results of reconstruction can be mixed, but i'll let campbell (2013:144) explain:
How Realistic are Reconstructed Proto-languages? The success of any given reconstruction depends on the material at hand to work with and the ability of the comparative linguist to figure out what happened in the history of the languages being compared. In cases where the daughter languages preserve clear evidence of what the parent language had, a reconstruction can be very successful, matching closely the actual spoken ancestral language from which the compared daughters descend. However, there are many cases in which all the daughters lose or merge formerly contrasting sounds or eliminate earlier alternations through analogy, or lose morphological categories due to changes of various sorts. We cannot recover things about the proto-language via the comparative method if the daughters simply do not preserve evidence of them. In cases where the evidence is severely limited or unclear, we often make mistakes. We make the best inferences we can based on the evidence available and on everything we know about the nature of human languages and linguistic change. We do the best we can with what we have to work with. Often the results are very good; sometimes they are less complete. In general, the longer in the past the proto-language split up, the more linguistic changes will have accumulated and the more difficult it becomes to reconstruct with full success. (emphasis mine)
or, to quote labov's (1982:20) pithier if less optimistic approach:
Historical linguistics may be characterized as the art of making the best use of bad data, in the sense that the fragments of the literary record that remain are the results of historical accidents beyond the control of the investigator.
in sum, historical linguists are very realistic about what we can achieve, but the confidence we do have is genuinely well earned, because linguistics is a scientific field and we treat our investigations with rigor.

I recently got reunited with my Japanese Ouran mangas and flipped to this:

And while my Japanese has gotten rusty, this made me laugh
Tamaki: …Sankyu (Thank you, katakana English)
Kyoya: You’re welcome.
The word for ‘you’re welcome’ in Japanese is what Kyoya used (Douitashimashite) however it is generally discouraged to use in response to ‘thank you’ as it can be perceived as rude. With that, I think Kyoya’s energy around his word choice was probably “you’re welcome you lovable idiot”
And in the English manga this little cultural context piece gets dropped, which is a bummer but maybe it’ll motivate me to get back into my Japanese practice?

PONY AND JOHNNY SCHOOL HEADCANONS
-when they knew Johnny was gonna be held back a year they were secretly happy they would be in the same class
-they sit in the right corner of every classroom and when they see their seat is taken awkwardly stare at the person the whole class
-then they would be glaring each other from opposite sides of the class trying not to laugh
-Johnny is dyslexic so usually Pony is far earlier done with his work than Johnny
-Pony would be peacefully daydreaming while Johnny would be litterally crashing out bc of an assignment
-They giggle during class like little girls so sometimes teacher has to seperate them
-When someone random is told to do a group project with them, they just become really awkward and dont talk almost at all
-Pony would be the one with the neatest handwriting but notebooks full with doodles
-Teachers have to ask Johnny "what does this say" when reading his assignments (he cant even read it himself)
-Pony smiles at teachers
-When Johnny knows the answer but refuses to raise his hand Pony keeps kicking him under the table until he raises his hand
-judging everyone seacretly but when theyre talked to they're polite
-johnny would be the "miss i dont have a pencil" in every single class
thats all for now :> let me know if you want more hc's of anything else i have them LOTS

GUYS!!! GUYS!!! GUYS-
I MAY BE 10 DAYS LATE BUT HAVEN'T HEARD ANY NEWS ABOUT IT ON TUMBLR.
THE OFFICIAL ANIPLEX YOUTUBE CHANNEL WILL LEGALLY UPLOAD 7 KUROMYUS IN PREP FOR THE GREEN WITCH MUSICAL!
unfortunately, since this is intended for a Japanese audience, ENG subtitles will probably not be available.
ONE WILL BE POSTED EVERY WEEK ON SATURDAY AT 19:00 JST (UCT+9).

If I can deduce it correctly with no Translator, the order is the following:
1. Self explanatory (although I'm unsure if this is the 2010 or 2013 ver. Also highly recommended this one to all Grelle enjoyers because she serves tenfold. This storyline is original and not tied to the manga/anime.)
2. Lycoris that blazes the earth (I yet have to see that one, I believe it follows the Jack the Ripper arc.)
3. Lycoris that blazes the earth ver. 2015
4. Self explanatory
5. Self explanatory (Please give this one a watch if you can! The costume work is so incredibly gorgeous, they really outdid themselves. And Lizzys actress is literally in Babymetal now, can you believe it????)
6. Secrets of boarding school
7. Secrets of boarding school 2024
Source
Also found this out through Grelles actor!
#i have yet to see the 2024 version of the secrets of boarding school#I HAVE NO NEED FOR SUBTITLES WE ARE HANDLING THE LANGUAGE BARRIER LIKE MEN#although i am curious why the first Kuromyu isnt included.#kuroshitsuji#black butler#vio speaks#kuroshitsuji musical#kuromyu2#kuromyu#kuromyu6#the most beautiful death in the world#tango on the campania#kuromyu3#kuromyu4#kuromyu5

no sleep, no coffee🌛
Just like the night before I slept less than 4 hours tonight, yay…Our coffee machine didn’t feel like doing its job at 6.30am (me too, my dear, me too), so the only thing that made me feel somewhat alive was todays sunset. Since the term is almost over we’re not doing too much in classes anymore. Gladly that means I can more or less relax until February. Except for homework and teachers getting on my nerves (my tutor huh). Who didn’t get on my nerves though was a friend of mine! They asked if I could give them feedback on their writing samples for their uni applications and I really enjoyed reading and reviewing it! It was a mix of short stories, text excerpts and poems; their last poem was my personal favourite :)
Now: watching soccer match, hoping to sleep >4h

Notated this way because the number of zeroes becomes too long to fit but I wanted to establish a baseline for those who aren't as familiar with this type of notation. For easy understanding, the number after the ^ is the total number of zeroes. (10^21 has 21 zeroes in total.)
This question is asking about the numbers you can name sequentially, so for example, if you can name 10^12 and 10^100 but not 10^13, you would select 10^12.

Late night study sessions might feel exhausting, but they're also some of the most rewarding moments in your academic journey. When the world is quiet, and it's just you and your books, you have the opportunity to dive deep into your studies, to understand, and to grow. Remember, every hour you put in, every note you take, and every concept you master is a step closer to your goals.
It's okay to feel tired. It's okay to take breaks. But never forget the power of persistence. Each time you push through, you're building not just your knowledge, but also your resilience. This is your journey, and while it might not always be easy, it's worth it.
So, surround yourself with what inspires you whether it's a cup of coffee, your favorite study playlist, or motivational quotes that keep you going. You’ve got this. Keep your head up, your mind sharp, and your heart determined. Every challenge you overcome is a victory, every question you answer is progress.
Stay focused, stay motivated, and remember why you started. You’re capable of more than you know, and this is just one step on your path to success. Keep going. The effort you put in today will pay off tomorrow.

i find it very disorientating the way americans refer to uni as "school" (especially postgrad) because sometimes i'm talking to someone online and i'm trying to gauge their age (often if they're talking shit and i want to know how firmly to call them out on it) and they start talking about "school" and "homework" and I'm like. okay, they're sixteen, it's fine, i'll let them off
and then you find out they're 26 and a phd student or something
#VERY confusing#nations separated by a common language#i'm not saying it's NOT school altho in a research rather than taught programme it does seem weird#we just don't call it that so it throws me off#personal
