Thea Sass-Ainsworth presents: Higher

We all need some hope in this life

Over 2023 and 2024, LA-based and raspy-voiced rocker, Thea Sass-Ainsworth, dropped three incredible singles, “Love Me Lonely”, “Safe and Hollow”, and “Was I Wong?” following her 2022 debut EP, Manderley.

This first album was an offering of twisting memories and lost love pinned together by hands, lips, and cold drinks in smoky rooms. This culminated in a sold-out show at LA’s Star Love and NY’s The Sultan Room.

On the new breakup track, “Higher”, Sass-Ainsworth’s deep yearning is palpable, cemented in her signature rasp. But even as she questions if she “deserved this”, there is an air of hope carried on the back of the melody and glittering guitars.

As Sass-Ainsworth explains:

"Higher” is a breakup song about trying to write a breakup song—because what I really need, what I lost so deeply along the way, is answered in the refrain of the melody, with the weight of my guitar in my lap, in the hoarse first attempt to sing. Follow the sound up, back out into dazzling sunlight; in what we can create, in the attempt, we may find ourselves again."

Thea Sass-Ainsworth is a Los Angeles based artist who uses music, language and imagery to explore themes of memory, longing, and loss. Drawing on an always essential feminist lens through which to express these themes, her influences include the terror and wonder of the gothic, the abundance and life force found in the baroque, and the scrutiny and poignancy of present-day life.

Chaque année, la commune met à l’honneur les couples qui fêtent leurs 60 et 50 ans de mariage. Les jubilaires et leurs familles ont été accueillis le 24 septembre à la salle des fêtes de Hamme-Mille. Voici la photo souvenir de ces heureux couples :

Pour chaque couple, le bourgmestre Marc Deconinck (remplaçant le président du CPAS Luc Gathy, souffrant) a fait une brève allocution présentant leurs rencontres et leurs différents parcours de vie en y ajoutant l’une ou l’autre petite anecdote et des cadeaux leur ont été distribués par les membres du conseil communale et du CPAS.

L’Ensemble Musical de Beauvechain qui animait cet après-midi joua La Brabançonne et certains morceaux leur rappelant leur jeunesse. Et enfin pour terminer cette belle cérémonie, la commune leur a offert  une petite réception et un moment de partage et de conversations, moment toujours fort apprécié.

Je termine par une réflexion personnelle qui m’a frappé cette année. Je participe en tant que conseiller CPAS depuis plusieurs années à cet évènement et il y a quelques années, quasi tous les couples se sont rencontrés lors d’un bal ou une autre festivité locale ou dans un des villages avoisinants (y compris flamands). Cette année, il y a eu plusieurs couples qui se sont rencontrés dans le train ou le bus car ils allaient tous les deux travailler ! Un beau signe d’un monde qui commençait à changer dans les années soixante …

Encore une fois mes félicitations aux couples jubilaires !
