Gave myself the best New Year gift and finished my throw blanket!
For flower patterns I used the book "200 Design Flower Motif of Crochet by Couturier''. The yarn is Scheepjes Chunky Monkey. I'm so proud of myself for finishing this 😤

This might be one of the cutest things I've ever knit! It's a Little Pookie to go with one of Sandra Boynton's wonderful books that will be a birthday gift for a two year old ❤️🐖
I knit this adorable little pig from Berroco Vintage yarn using @fuzzymitten #scrapchaps pattern and the overalls are knit from Scheepjes Stone Washed and are adapted @littlecottonrabbits dungarees pattern.
I can't get over how cute the little tail peeking out of the overalls is 😍

Another moratorium on bad memories is creeping by. This year no freak out dog smashing the house because a no fireworks ban means nothing to them, and no neighbors who think the tarp you have on your porch is where they should aim their bottle rockets.
I am actually planning to make the time to do something I've been thinking about doing for years. Going to ponder doing a little bit this morning, we have to go out and real life today, and if I don't get to it I can wait until tomorrow.
Both sets of DIY shrinky dink papers are in the same container so that's a pretty big step.
The only thing I got in to yesterday that I still don't know what I'm going to do with is the box of Scheepjes cutie pies yarn. And a crochet möbius loop suddenly hit me if I arrange the colors just right.
It's the sample kit of their catona which if it had connected was cotton I might not have ordered (back at the blue carpet house) because cotton yarn is cotton yarn. For those that don't know it behaves differently than "regular" yarn.
Finding uses for stuff and finishing up projects feels great.
And on the derp side of life I keep forgetting I have the tabloid size copy paper I specifically bought for DIY books and on seeing the covers from the blank journals I bought back in college, they have kitties on them, I can just make the special journal I want for my milestone birthday year.
Altho honestly I might end up making a copy paper version so I can just put whatever in it then do a tidied up version on more quality paper. Unless I also have, which I think I do, art paper that will make signatures that will fit in the book covers.
Tehre's also a cover from a sketchbook, which had shitty paper, with dancing wooden art dolls on it. Because it just hit me while the journals can hold a lot of copy paper, which I think I'll fill them with anyway, their spines aren't thick enough for art paper.
Want to come over and play book binding with me?

sunrise... sunset... sangria... dance sweat
project diary cast on entry follows ~
oooooo it's driving me crazy how uneven that square is!!! but that's just test square #1 so it's ok. I sort of figure I'll redo it at the very end -- I never crochet and I've just picked it up again after many years, so my tension is bound to improve over the course of the few dozen of these I'm about to make.
Here are the stats.
-it's a throw. it's for my sister's bday in 4 months.
-it uses the bones of the citrus slice pattern from "the modern guide to granny squares"
-all squares will have the same background (same color as the pith) and a gradient border
-after assembly, the blanket will reverse the gradient border, so another sc row of yellow going back out to the darker pink
-squares are 8x8. to make throw-sized i believe it'll be 6x7, or 42 squares. this feels very doable; i can easily do one square in a day without any clue what i'm doing. once i have the hang of it, 2-3 squares in a day would be fine.
-the yarn is "scheepjes soft fun". i looked at sooo many options before going with this one, but i'm really happy with it. i just couldn't find any natural yarn that had all the specific colors i wanted... i didn't want to mix and match, and i was also wary of price because crochet is so yarn thirsty compared to knitting. the scheepjes skeins are less than $4 for 140m which is fantastic. it's 60% cotton and 40% acrylic. i never work with cotton and i never work with acrylic. but i am enjoying it and really happy with my choice.
-to start with i ordered 5x of the pith/bg and 3x of all other colors. i know i will need more. according to my kitchen scale, after the first test square i'd used about 10g of the pith/bg and about 5g of the slice color. i'll need to do a little more before i'm confident enough to make a second (hopefully final) order. i'm not too worried about dye lots because the squares are discrete, so if i wash before assembly (for example) i should be able to offset any color variance during assembly.
-here was my planning before the yarn search... after confirming i could actually crochet this, i mocked up a really basic diagram and then pulled out the colored pencils. was testing on 2008 babette blanket cascade 220 yarns.... yuuuuup!
-the book has been great to practice reading charts & written instructions, which were always sort of bewildering for me. because i've made a few changes in the outer rounds, i figured i'd try to rewrite the chart (also there are a few minor errors in the printed charts I think? not positive. but to my untrained eye it seems so.) so i've been messing with stitch fiddle with... interesting results lol. placing symbols individually..... i'm sure there's a better way to do it but what am i gonna do, read a manual? grow up. i might just bust out the colored pencils again.
just showing a small part because i'm only rewriting, but... lol. god it's a mess. but i'm learning!
-the lime green i have is on the yellowish side so i think it will work. that's the second test square i'm working on now.
-fun fact: the real reason i picked crochet up again was that i am desperate to make this mosaic throw. but my first attempts were awful, so i decided i needed a lot more practice to get the muscle memory back (and TENSION!!!! ugh). so that's how i ended up here. there's a couple other stashbusting projects i have in mind, too. i'll try the mosaic again eventually!
-last thing for now, it feels criminal that this book, which is super colorful - and does not use varigated yarns in its examples - does not even discuss methods to avoid or mitigate weaving in ends. come on! in my first square, i didn't weave in any. in my second test, i'm working over the ends to see how that looks, works, and how secure it is. so far so good! thank you to the many reddit posts about the pros and cons of all these methods... for me... i know i will die if i'm weaving in 20+ ends per square. ...x42... and it's going to a childless, catless adult so like. i think it will be safe.
everything else about the book is lovely and i'd recommend it to beginning & intermediate crocheters in a heartbeat! i'm a sucker for rainbow colors... the charts and instructions are great and the reference in the back is also very clear.
ok... bye until there is fun or interesting progress to report!

eight questions
Thanks for the tag: @user-needs-new-hyperfixation
(tysmm it’s like the first time I’ve been tagged in such a thing! ☺️)
Relationship status:
single :3 no honestly, I’m still figuring out if a romantic relationship is for me (am I demi? aro? how will I ever know for sure?)
…there kinda is someone, but I think I need to sort myself out first, and really decide for myself what I want the relationship to be (for my part)
Favourite colour:
Shades of blue, specifically this transparent blue-green I can never describe properly:
*Scheepjes Sugar Rush cotton thread in Chrystaline (source)
Favourite food:
It’s probably obscure to anyone not from Singapore, but prawn noodles!! Specifically the soup version (the one at Beach Road is so good)
Song stuck in my head:
Summer Skies and Contrails, by Laterne (youtube)
夏空とコントレイル / ラテルネ feat. 初音ミク
Last thing I googled:
Independent bookstores in my area
(…no really I’m trying to buy a book for myself as a graduation gift — not that I’m done just yet tho)
(it’s The Rise and Reign of the Mammals by Steve Brusatte)
Time:
Past 12am
(night owl)
Dream trip:
I never have just one, so here are five:
Japan: specifically Yokohama (bc BSD :3), but also for the manga bookstores and Kyoto matcha ice cream
Italian seaside (like in Luca)
Florence and Milan (bc AC2!)
French lavender fields (so far away from the cities though)
Prague: the old city and the astronomical clock (going there soon!! hehe)
Something I want:
A pair of lace knitting needles, plus enough lace yarn to make a shawl (so expensive though)
Tags: (only if you want! feel free to ignore this pls)

Interweave Crochet, Winter 2020
It’s cold out up north, and the holiday season, so this issue has some gifts to make, like the Sheepback Shawl by Alla Koval in a lovely hand-dyed Malabrigo Silk Merino in a mix of shades of blue at top. This one is made using cross stitches.
The smaller (and easier to get finished for giving) Rimaye Cowl by Kabila Sri Ponnusamy is done with a Tunisian hook which keeps stitches “live” as in knitting which allows you accomplish things that are not otherwise possible in crochet where each stitch is usually finished, one and done. The deep sea green yarn is by Brown Sheep, the Nature Spun Sport Weight.
The grey Ogive Cardigan by Isa Catepillan has dropped sleeves and is worked side to side in pieces, which means creating vertical ribbing across the body, before adding the shell stitch collar. This is Patons Classic Wool at work.
The Firn Capelet on the cover has a hood and was designed by Lisa Naskrent and makes the most of the ombre shading of Scheepjes Whirligig yarn. Notice how she placed the darker grey at the bottom and the paler blues near the face. She uses post stitches to create that nice texture.
There are more projects, more sweaters, more smaller scarf gifts, that silly little snowman as well as a technical article on grafting by Susanna Tobias, and the usual columns on new books, products. You can find it at your local bookstore or newsstand or online here: https://www.interweave.com/store/crochet/crochet-magazines/crochet-magazines-interweave-crochet

Sophie's Universe by Dedri Strydom Uys
Sophie’s Universe was originally released as a 20-part CAL (crochet-along) in 2015, designed by Dedri Uys and sponsored by Scheepjes yarn. It is now available in printed format exclusively from Annie’s! Despite its complexity, the pattern is actually written specifically for adventurous beginners. It starts out with a simple granny square that has a beautiful crochet flower in the center and gradually unfolds into a stunning, hypnotizing design.

YARN DELIVERY! YARN PORN! (Gosh I really hope no one is offended, it is supposed to be funny, not obscene) * * * Ok who is up for the yarn porn I'm sporting here? I have to say one if the first blankets I fell in love with when I returned to crochet earlier this year, after a five year hiatus, was one that I've finally bought the yarn to make. It is a beautiful blanket by @itsallinanutshell Esther one of my favorite creators. She also does some of the best YouTube tutorials for her creations as well as some for a few other great creators. You don't feel as though you are mak8ng alone when you watch her videos! * * * The blanket is her #nutsaboutsquares and I actually feel in love with one of her chosen colour ways, can you guess which one by the yarn? Nuts about Sea colourway. Just the blues and greens reached to my soul! I think it is interesting that I splurged a bit and bought the @scheepjes Yarn Book-A-Zine at this time also, wasn't on purpose didn't realize till I looked over my delivery today! * * * So slid through the images to see all the beautiful yarn and colors and have a happy Monday! I've got some work to do! ☺😊😄 * * * * * #grannysquares #grannysquareblanket #grannyblanket #nutsaboutsquares #yarnstash #yarninspirations #crochetersofinstagram #crocheteveryday #crochetaddict #crochetlovers #crochet #throwblanket #yarnaddiction #crochetismylife #crochetistherapy #crochetismytherapy #crochetingisfun #crochetismyhobby #crochet_relax #handmadecrochet #craftedwithlove #yarnlove #clevercrafters #mygrannysquares #crochetalong #hugsarehandmade #yarnporn https://www.instagram.com/p/B1Ew8yFF39h/?igshid=i8be8eno3g0e

I swear, every time I hear of another whiney crybaby justifying their misogynist and white supremasist view points with violence and guns I wonder how well they did in science class. Did they not grasp the concepts of Gregor Mendel’s work on dominant and recessive traits and the Punnitt Square?
When the recessive genes for light skin and hair from one parent meet the recessive genes from the other parent the offspring then has light skin and hair.
But it requires copies of those genes from both parents. So as with other recessive traits that cause other things there’s a 1 in 4 chance one of the kids will inherit the traits of their grandparents.
The light eyes some of us got from Blue Eyed Party Gam Gam are different.
You can’t tell me that Cheddar Man and his descendants don’t know where the real fun is. This cheese stuff you’ve invented, lad, is fucking fantastic!
Unless I come up with something more interesting this is where I’m going with the Scheepjes Catona samples, and I can always frog it later. The chains links are just cast in any number of stitches and worked in the round until I run out of yarn. Being done in color chart order. Could work the ball bands in to the design if wanted. Could make them tubes if wanted.
I just think I’ll be more inclined to wear the chains instead of waiting however long it might be to find the sashing color I want for my other idea. Which again I could do by frogging this.
And I think I’ve picked the book I’m going to buy myself as a reward for going to the dentist and having work done in a few days. The last time I had a bunch of dental work done I rewarded myself with Vice Magazine’s Dos and Don’ts and it changed the direction of several things in my life for the better.
Let’s hope this latest book will get me going on a doll photo story idea I’ve actually been stewing for many many years.

And we’re done! The yarn bombing is live! It’s not entirely finished, but the main part is up! . For this years yarn bombing I decided to knit lots of little hats for the @innocent Big Knit campaign. I used 84 hats and pom-poms to create an ombré effect using @scheepjes Colour Crafter yarn. . To mix things up I used different stitches from my stitch hand book for the hat designs and for the colour changes used simple colour and stitch combinations to hopefully make it look like the colours were fading from one to another! . Overall I’m really pleased with how it’s gone and I love the colours I’ve chosen! #knittersofinstagram #yarnbombing #knittingforcharity #ombre #scheepjescolourcrafter #knittedhats #innocentbigknit #innocentbigknit2019 https://www.instagram.com/p/BzA0X1dJQuy/?igshid=1xrm7fl3d6679

Is sewing my new thing?!
Well I think it’s too early to tell *coughafter3projectscough*. So far I’ve had fun with what I’ve chosen to make and that’s like 90% of it. I also wouldn’t say that I have a natural talent for it like I do for crochet but it is a skill that I feel confident about at a novice level.
Let’s start with the oldest within the last 4-5 months (not including the felt dolls of my last post).
I took a sewing class in December 2018 and made these to replace a very tired and worn out pair of pj’s that I loved. This print is so cute and I got to use my 8th grade pajama pants pattern! I’m a little bigger now, but thank goodness for elastic!
After that, I made these shorts in early March or in February. I can’t remember.
Of course I had to have a matching top. (I count these as one since they’re a set.) But first, I wanted a new skirt out of a pretty knit material I got out of the remnants bin and a pair of jeans that had a bad DIY experience.
Then it was on to the top for the bird shorts.
This one I made following Melly Sews Pillowcase Top. Her blog post also has a video tutorial.
Then I realized that I had plenty of material left over. So the next day I sewed this!
I remembered Crochet Ever After having a Sleeping Beauty inspired nighty and just went from memory of the picture. I picked out a mandala pattern from my crochet stitches book, measured myself, and sewed it all together while watching F&F6 and 7.
Each of these pretty much took an entire day for me but I’m glad they’re done. I might have put them on hold indefinitely if they took any longer. I have a long list of projects for knitting and crochet and I did not plan to have sewing come into my life.
Except for the starry pjs, I needed those.
So here’s what I finished today:
This is From Yumiko Alexander’s Rustic Modern Crochet book. The pattern is called bridges. The front is by the book and lay at the bottom of the UFO bin for months. I remembered it when I looked for my book for the crochet motifs on the nighty and saw the Rustic Modern book.
Lightbulb.
I changed the back so it would look different from the front by keeping it on the plain side rather than making a second exact panel.
The yarn is Catona by Scheepjes. It was wonderful! It’s 100% cotton but mercerized! That means it’s got luster and reduces shrinkage and tearing and pilling. It feels strong like cotton should and relaxes as you work it, like cotton should. It took about 8 (I have some left over) 25 gram skeins.
I have 6 whole skeins plus that little bit (maybe half?) of the eighth to make something else.
I’m working on a tapestry crochet bag right now and the green knit top is still on hold. Spring weather is truly here so a wardrobe change out is in order...
I need to get my time organized.
#sewing projects!#pajama edition#crochet mesh top#scheepjes yarn#love it#might be the only light weight cotton I use from now on#not enough hours in the day
