Phew, finally done with the dod headshots! I definitely had a lot of fun and I loved experimenting with a more cartoony style and brush textures!
I tried to keep their designs based closely to their names and personalities! I did make tsunami a little bigger size wise than clay but she’s definitely shorter and more muscled than him.
I tried to make glory and clay almost iridescent like clays underbelly is described in the books as copper like and I wanted to bring parallels between clay and glory bc I like the idea that they are kinda alike if u know what I mean? And I wanted to give Tsunami fins like a wave of water like what surfers surf on! Like those water tunnel pictures! And I loved giving sunny features like starflight bc she’s a hybrid. I feel like if she wasn’t so unassuming you’d immediately be able to tell she’s a hybrid heheh. And I like to think Tsunami hated when her siblings got hurt enough to take all their “training sessions” with kestrel nearly every time, and continuously challenged the guardian enough that when she did take them kestrel didn’t hold back whatsoever and was constantly nearly permanently injuring her and she required many, many scars over the years.
Well, I had a blast making these and I hope you guys like em! ^^
Love yall! ^^ <3

I absolutely ADORE your daemon au art, it’s so wonderful (as, I’m sure, would be any fic you wrote, if you ever chose to write it). I love all your choices for everyone’s daemons, and the art it itself is, as always, fantastic, I have my own daemon au fic (that I’m never going to write) and had very different choices for the daemons, but I love seeing any different takes! I also decided to torment Buck, a freak with a broken soul, but instead by having his daemon unsettled still as an adult. Thank you so much for sharing your work and your thoughts!
I don't think I'm going to write a fic about this ( <- guy who's opening new wip documents CONSTANTLY) but it really is fun to play around with the idea... Ooh I'd love to hear your picks! I'm still not entirely sure about chimney's I just wanted something small and fast and for it to match Kevin's. Also I think he'd think he's really cool to have a snake daemon. Also a great way to go with Buck... He's such an unsettled person, it makes sense!

Listener drawing is coming. Little delayed because I had accidentally deleted my original progress, and I was also struggling to get an expression I liked. Here’s a little sneak peek, alongside one of the versions I considered moving forward with. Was gonna be Listener after being upstaged by Whiteout but it wasn’t really working for me.
Tumblr media
I also kept getting distracted cause I wanted to sketch other characters lol. Here’s some of those said sketches.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. Coral and Anemone. I dressed Coral in a lot of…coral jewelry…alongside pearls, various sea critters, and golden strands of seaweed. Maybe she also has some coral colored markings because I like giving the tribes traits and colors outside the canon. Are they natural, or did she dye herself? Dunno. She’s almost identical to Tsunami, although she’s larger and has a longer, slender snout, and her colors are just slightly off. Different markings, too. I really liked Anemone’s colors here. Very pastel and pearlescent. I’ve given her curling horns and stripes that resemble anemone tentacles.
2. Gill, before his time in the arena. I like giving SeaWings facial hair made of fins and webbing and whatever else. He and Tsunami have the same facial structure, and Auklet has his colors.
3. Tsunami…again! This was to visualize her outside of my cover redraw. I gave her a different fin style and decided to push the wave motif. She’s got her father’s square chin/jaw, and his big round nose- a trait I gave to Turtle as well. She also has a stylish scar over her brow that she received from Gill in the arena. Her and Coral have similar patterns, but Tsunami lacks the extra coloration on her jaw (something I’ve also decided to cut from the cover redraw).
4. Blaze. I’ve drawn her before on my DA account, but I decided to make some changes. She’s got a color scheme closer to the graphic novel (mainly in the horns). I also wanted to give her pure black eyes this time around (I headcanon that SandWings find super dark eyes attractive) and a hint of pink in her scales. I think it’d be funny if Burn and Blaze looked similar. Similar in that they both have pinkish scales, blonde sails, reddish horns, and pure black eyes. Otherwise they’re completely different.
5. Burn. Disregard the anatomy pleeaaaase, I was not focusing on that when I sketched this out. Anyways, yeah. Burn is huge and absolutely SHREDDED. She wears scars like jewelry and her teeth are orange from how bloodstained they are. Her colors and facial markings are inspired by lions. I also added a bit of pink in her scales, too.

Something tells me AK!Jason could be pretty much into cuddlefuck
⚠️ cw: softcore smut (⚤)
As long as the sex doesn't trigger his migraines, then absolutely.
He loves the intoxicating smell of you after you're spent: your sweat, your perfume, your pussy.
Loves the sticky warmth of your skin pressed against his as your bodies remain entwined after making love.
Loves the steady beat of your heart against his scarred chest—a coveted reassurance in his world of uncertainty.
Loves the softness of your breast gloved in his disfigured hand. A poignant contradiction you've taught him to ignore.
Loves the hardness of your nipple pressing into his drill-punctured palm, as if seeking the protection his calloused, violence-shaped hand can provide.
Loves how your legs remain locked around the curve of his back, as if you'll never let him go.
Loves how you still hold him deep inside you, even after you reached that apex together and your conjoined euphoria has ebbed away.
Loves how you occasionally press your heels down into his skin, encouraging languid, additional thrusts.
Loves how the wetness of your walls—coated in the cocktail of his seed and your still-flowing juices—engulf his now flaccid cock like a velvet glove.
Loves how you smile up at him, cheeks still flushed with pleasure, eyes still shining with want. His breath catches for a heartbeat as it hits him once again: she wants me, and that overwhelming rush of devotion to you surges up inside him, overtaking him like a tsunami, smothering all of his feelings of inadequacy, leaving him scraped clean. Becoming something new in your gaze.
Loves when you praise him for making you feel amazing once again, loves how your words tickle his belly as prideful butterflies take flight.
Loves to run his nose along the line of your jaw up to your ear, loves to bury his nose behind it and drink in your sweet scent. Loves to retrace his path with his tongue back down to your neck, tasting you until he finds your collarbone, then loves to dip his tongue in the hollow of your throat.
Loves to thread his fingers through your sweat-damp hair, to push stray locks behind your ear before pressing his lips to yours.
Loves when you wrap him up in your arms and hug him tight to your chest until you both drift off to sleep.
Loves that when your bodies are entangled, his nightmares can't seem to find him.

The Dragonets of Destiny
I Originally did this for Smaugust day 1 “from a book” except it took way too long so i’ve decided i am not doing Smaugust lol
ive always wanted to draw the dragonets and iron out my designs for them and im super happy with how this turned out. maybe ill do a pt 2 and 3 with the povs from the other arcs…?
you are welcome to use my designs as long as you credit me :)
design notes:
Coming from a blood-red egg, Clay is immune to damage from fire. Instead of becoming scarred he develops faint swirl-markings across his scales as marks of his ability to withstand intense heat. He has hazel eyes that appear more green in contrast to his warm coloring.
Tsunami is covered in scars from the many battles she’s been through, including ripped fins, burnt gills, and slashes all over her body. She offsets her worn intimidating appearance with ropes of pearls around her horns; gifts from her mom in the kingdom of the sea. After Clay she is the largest of the dragonets.
Glory is noticeably duller than most RainWings, and tends to keep her coloring in the green-blue spectrum. She too is covered in scars, but unlike the other dragonets these are not marks from battle but rather evidence of Kestrel’s hatred. Being a very humble queen, she prefers to keep her attire simple: a crown of flowers and silver hoop earrings.
Starflight wears glasses, and instead of being fully blinded by lava in the volcano he was partially blinded by the intense light which permanently damaged his eyes. He can only pick up light, dark, and the shapes of objects and other dragons. He is covered in scars along his side from the volcano, but was lucky enough to have Clay shield his head from any of the damage.
Sunny is the smallest of the five, and her bright coloring is noticeably very different from the usual pale sandy grey of most SandWing’s. Her eyes are a very very dark green, and she wears an amber teardrop earring; a gift from her mother in the kingdom of the sand as a reminder of her home. Her adopted brother Qibli has one very similar. She is noticeably the least scarred of the dragonets, as she was able to use her small size to wiggle out of battles.

Lightning in a Bottle - Chapter 6
Summary:
Eira Archeron was neither a Valkyrie, nor a Seer, nor the High Lady of the Night Court. She was actually pretty much useless. The only thing she wanted was to be somebody's first choice for once in her life.
Also known as: Azriel's shadows decide that if he doesn't treat his mate right... they'll just do it for him.
Warnings:
ANGST, Elain bashing, Visions of the future, also probably no update tomorrow
(super pretty dividers by @tsunami-of-tears)
Tumblr media
“It will be fine,” Cassian told him.
Again. Cassian had already told him that multiple times.
He had washed his mate’s blood from his hands…from underneath his fingernails. Eira’s blood. All over his hands. Literally and figuratively.
“Azriel,” Cassian said quietly, once again, trying to get him to give him something. “She’ll be fine. Madja is the best at what she does. She managed to save my wings. That poisoned knife was probably nothing more than a nuisance for Madja.”
A nuisance? The shadows hissed sharply. Our mate took a poisoned knife between her ribs nearly to her heart! And he says it’s just a nuisance?!
“I should have taken that knife,” Azriel whispered.
He should have taken that knife. Him.
Not her. Not Eira. Not…
“Azriel,” Cassian said quietly.
“I should be the one,“ he insisted. “It’s my fault.” If he had just told her the day before. If he had just been there…if they had pushed that meeting at the Court of Nightmares…maybe if…
“How is this possibly your fault?” Cassian asked with a sigh. “Rhys asked you to wait, did he not? Wouldn’t that make it his fault?”
It wasn’t Rhys’ fault. It was on Azriel. Azriel’s mate was lying there, fighting for her life and he could do absolutely nothing to make this easier for her. At least Rhys could try and take her pain away…but Azriel?
“Quite frankly, the fault is with Keir,” Cassian said quietly. “He was the one who wanted to kill Nyx. Eira was just collateral damage.”
What?
“She’s not just collateral damage,” Azriel growled, his hand twitching to Truthteller's hilt without even thinking about it.
Eira wasn’t just a thing, wasn’t just a number, wasn’t just a…
Cassian seemed to realise how badly worded that was, but Azriel was already so fucking angry.
“Az,” Cassian said quietly, holding up his hands. “That’s not how I meant that. I only meant that she was that for Keir.”
“She’s my mate!” Azriel spat out. His mate.
Even when he didn’t deserve her. Didn’t deserve to even look at her after what had happened.
“I know,” Cassian said quietly. “I know, Az.”
He reached out hesitantly, clasping Azriel’s shoulder…jostling him with his wing…Trying and failing to ground him in the here and now, when all Azriel could think about was the feeling of Eira’s limp hand against his lips, the scent of her blood, the grey pallor of her skin…
“Amren is back,” Cassian said nearly thoughtfully, but Azriel ignored that, going back to staring at his hands, at the gnarled scars that covered them…the absolutely ruined scar tissue that covered them and made them look like they belonged to a monster.
How…How in the world had the Mother thought it to be prudent to mate him to Eira? To Eira with her milk-pale, freckled, perfect skin…the epitome of a lady?
How…
Rhys’ mental voice snapped through his mind at that:  *Dining Room. Now.*
He didn’t sound…Rhys sounded angry.
Something had happened.
It took less than a minute for them all to find their place in the dining room, Nyx upstairs with the wraiths, probably the only non-members of the Inner Circles that Feyre and Rhys would be willing to let near Nyx for the foreseeable future.
“Do you want to tell us what exactly your problem is?” Amren asked, crossing her arms and Rhys stared at her, violet eyes sharp.
“My problem?” he repeated, his voice velvet soft, betraying the anger that lay beneath it. “Amren, your reaction to Eira laying in her bed a few hours after being stabbed is that she’s finally turning out to be interesting!”
What?
The shadows swirled tighter around him, a hissing running through them. They had never trusted Amren in the first place and right now that…that was just strengthening their stand.
“She is finally turning out to be interesting. I have never heard of anybody controlling lightning,” Amren defended herself with a roll of her eyes.
What?
“Eira controlled lightning?” Cassian repeated, the question he also had. “Eira?”
She did, Master, the shadows agreed. She was sublime.
Lightning. She had controlled it? Like Nesta controlled the Silver Flames of Death?
“Eira killed these males?” Feyre asked, sounding shocked.
“She completely magically exhausted herself in the process,” Rhys agreed with a sigh.
“I didn’t think she would ever…be able to do anything,” Mor admitted quietly and his hands turned into fists. Anything? Eira did a lot of things that neither Mor nor any other member of their family could do.
“We’ll need to train her,” Amren said. “She has…untapped potential.”
“No,” Nesta snapped, quicker than he even could open his mouth. “You are not doing this to my sister. Eira does not want to be a soldier.”
No. Eira…Eira liked things soft and gentle and not…she didn’t want to fight. And nobody would make her do that as long as Azriel was alive.
“We’ll talk to her, she’ll be…reasonable,” Amren said with a shrug.
“No, you won’t. I won’t have it,” Nesta hissed.
“Nesta…” Feyre said quietly, thoughtfully, but Nesta cut her off.
“The first time you killed a deer and she prepared it for dinner, she spent three hours crying hysterically in our back garden afterwards,” Nesta snapped. “I am not letting you take this from her.”
He hadn’t known that. There were so many things that he didn’t know about Eira…so many questions he had never gotten to ask her, so many questions that just…
“She already killed three males,” Feyre said quietly.
She had. Though Azriel thought that killing in pure self-defense was something different than going into a fight and knowing that you would kill. Two very different mindsets.
“Which just proves my point, she’s dangerous,” Amren agreed.
And he was done.
“So am I,” Azriel snapped. “You are not turning Eira into anything she doesn’t want.”
“She would agree,” Amren said with a roll of her eyes.
Of course, Eira would agree to that particular request.
“Of course, she would agree. She always just tried to make everybody’s life easier!” Nesta snapped, slapping her hands flat onto the table, as Cassian reached out to soothe his mate and she ignored the hand he carefully placed on her arm.
“This is not up for discussion, Amren,” Rhys finally said evenly. “Eira is terrified of you. You are not going to request anything from her, because it wouldn’t be a request.” He sighed. “And that’s not what I wanted to talk about either.”
“You don’t want to talk about Feyre’s sister suddenly being able to summon lightning and having killed three elite soldiers in the process?” Mor asked with a snort.
“Would you stop it?” Nesta asked, her voice sharp. “She’s not just Feyre’s sister or Azriel’s mate. Eira is her own fucking person!”
It was biting and razor sharp and Azriel swallowed.
She was right.  Nesta was right. Of course, she was.
“Nesta is right,” Rhys agreed, something that made everybody at the table sit up straight because these words were exceedingly rare. If not nearly unheard. Rhys and Nesta agree…it must be dire. “I would like to talk about the fact that Eira has spent the last 3 years so fucking miserable that that being pulled into her mind made me throw up…because it’s a neverending repeat of her feeling worthless and useless and like she’s not allowed to take up any room.”
What?
What?
Eira had felt like this? His mate had felt like this?!
When had she felt like this? How?
He watched Feyre’s blue eyes fill with tears…watched as she stared at her mate.
“She hasn’t said anything. Why wouldn’t she say anything?” Feyre asked, her voice shaking. “Rhys?”
“Because we gave her absolutely no reason why she should trust us, Feyre Darling. None of us,” Rhys answered with a sigh. “Her shields are nonexistent. I wasn’t careful and she dragged me into her memories. By the time I finally got to pull myself out, it already had been…”
“I didn’t do anything to her,” Mor said, crossing her arms.
“So you didn’t say that as far as cauldron blessed went she’s useless? And you didn’t say that while at dinner, where we all heard it, or and we all laughed?” Rhys cut her off sharply. “Do not absolve yourself of the blame, Morrigan. This is on all of us.”
What? Had he been there? He couldn’t remember. he couldn’t….this had happened and he couldn’t…
It happened, Master, the shadows hissed. More happened too, Master. None of you have done anything to make her feel welcome or appreciated in…months, if not years. She has cried often.
“Show me,” Feyre demanded at that moment.
“She already lost enough of her privacy.” Nesta’s disagreed, her voice frosty. Azriel watched that particular match of minds carefully. Did he...
Yes. He wanted to know. He needed to know. What had he done? How badly had he fucked up?
“Show me,” Feyre repeated.  “If she’s angry, It’s my fault. I’ll take her blame,” she told Rhys fiercely. “But show me, show us…when…”
Rhys sighed, but when he looked at Feyre, and Azriel watched the moment where he must have placed Eia’s memory in Feyre's mind as she clasped her hand in front of her mouth, her eyes welling over with tears.
He looked over to Mor, who just nodded…then Amren, then Nesta…then Cassian…Azriel watched his brother steel himself, and then the way his expression crumbled.
He felt Rhys’ mental touch against his shields…*Az…Are you sure you want this?* Rhys asked and he just…
*Yes.*
The memory was dropped into his mind.
Blue velvet box. Winter solstice.
Pearl Earrings. Beautiful. So beautiful.
But for her…for her useless. Her ears weren’t pierced.
He hadn’t even noticed that. It hurt worse than even his smiles at her sister.
He had brought her a gift…but it wasn’t a gift that she could use, no gift that…no gift that was special to her…no thought behind it…jsut an item on a list to be checked off.
Something for Eira. Beautiful and Impersonal and…
No attention paid to her.
She didn’t deserve his attention. Never.
But she wanted it. Just once…
Please, Please, Please, Please…
Azriel’s hands turned into fists.
He remembered these earrings. Of course, he did.
Each consisted out of one round diamond with a perfect oval pearl dropping from it.
He had bought them for Eira. Had picked them out in fact. Had thought that they were…modest but elegant…simple but beautiful…that they would suit her so well.
And he had only bought them after he had asked Elain what Eira would like for Solstice.
And Elain had told him…had told him that Eira wanted earrings. That she had been thinking about having her ears pierced. And of course, Azriel hadn’t thought closer about it then…Neither had his shadows. They had believed Elain.
Believed Elain’s pretty words.
“You lied to me,” he spat out, his words so sudden, so menacing that it made everybody stop in their tracks…the shadows reached out, lengthening and he tightened his hold on them as he fixed Elain…beautiful Elain with his hard green eyes.
Elain who always acted so soft…so sweet…
But she had done this on purpose.
“What?” she squeaked out.
“You lied to me, Elain,” he repeated, his voice hoarse with anger.  “I bought Eira these earrings because you said she wanted them. I knew that she couldn’t wear them. I knew her ears weren’t pierced, but you told me she wanted to do that, so I bought them for her. And instead, she thinks that I never cared enough to notice that about her?”
“Cauldron,” Rhys breathed.
“Why?” Azriel bit out. Elain stared at him, brown eyes hard, lips pursed.
“Does it matter? It’s Eira.” She spat out the words.
And he had enough.
So had the shadows.
You stupid girl, they hissed, for once so loud that everybody could hear them, everybody flinching away from them. Of course, they did.
“They can talk?“ Feyre asked, her voice small and shaky.
“On very rare occasions,” Cassian answered quietly. “Circumstances must be…exceedingly dire.”
And they were.
This was about Eira.
“What exactly is your problem?” Azriel growled. What was this about? Where was this coming from? He had never noticed any kind of…tension between them. Not from Eira at least.
So why was…
“It’s Eira,” Elain said like that explained everything.
“What exactly is that supposed to mean?” Nesta asked her voice, icy. “Do you think Eira doesn’t deserve Azriel?”  Nesta asked, her silver eyes fixing on her sister…the sister she had doted on…protected so thoroughly…and now…now they were on opposite ends.
“Don’t be ridiculous, of course, she doesn’t,” Elain said with a roll of her eyes.
It was so quiet in the room that one could have heard a pin dropping.
“How can you say that?” Nesta challenged her sister, her voice violently even. “This is Eira. Your twin sister. What has she ever done to you?!”
And then the anger in Elain’s eyes seemed to boil over.
“She doesn’t deserve him!” Elain snapped “What has she that I don’t? I am the pretty one!” It poured out of Elain and Azriel could just watch in horror. “I am the one that’s supposed to marry for Love and Beauty! She’s…she’s useless!”
“Useless?” Nesta interrupted her sharply. “Feyre and Eira kept us alive, Elain! Feyre hunted, yes. And Eira…Eira did the rest, Elain!  She cooked and she cleaned and she did the laundry and her fucking potato patch was what made sure that we didn’t starve on more than one occasion!” she growled. “You liked to pretend that it wasn’t that bad but it was!“
“I can’t listen to this,” Rhys said quiet. “Your sister did everything so that you could survive. Your sister spent her whole life taking care of you… You were gifted with a sister that loved you so fiercely, that would do anything for you...and you treated her like this? Your sister spent the last few years suffering. Because of things we said, things we done. I am not absolving any of us of that blame…but you…you did this on purpose…” Rhys stared at Elain and Azriel saw the minute blink, the way Elain’s hands tightened on the table…”I just wonder why?”.
And he knew that Rhys had just gone into her mind… And then there was a thunderous expression on Rhys’ face. Without a word, he poured what he had gotten from Elain into Azriel’s mind…
A vision.
A vision from a cauldron-blessed Seer.
And he stared at it, his heart plummeting.
Elain had seen this and still…still tried to drive Azriel and Eira apart.
She had seen this vision of the future…of Eira…of Eira with a little girl in a garden, no older than maybe three…a pair of Illyrian wings sprouting proudly from her back…the girl's hair the exact shade of her mother’s hair…her eyes unmistakenly Azriel’s…freckles covering her face…Both of them kneeling in the mud, dresses sprinkled with it, and not a care in the world as they pulled carrots from the ground.
And then Azriel watched himself land in front of the two of them, a smile on his face and lean down to press a kiss to Eira’s lips.
She smiled at him…so incredibly happy as he picked up the little girl, settling her on her hip…and then the basket of vegetables…and then he helped her up and he watched as one of his scarred hands settled possessively on the slight swell of her belly.
It was like somebody doused him in icy water.
How dare you? the shadows hissed, flinging themselves at Elain, who screamed, as they wrapped themselves around her, nothing gentle about their touch. Do not ever…ever come near her again. Do not even look at her. You are not going to hurt her again. Ever again. And if you do…you will regret it. She cried over you. For hours. And you repay her like this?!
He didn’t know how he wrestled them back under his control…how he got them to not outright slaughter Elain right there…
He didn't know how. Because he wanted. Because he...
*Azriel, it's alright,* Rhys breathed into his mind. *It's alright.* But it wasn't. Because Elain...Elain had tried to stop this future from ever happening. Had tried to stop his children from being born. She had tried to take this from him. This perfect slice of happiness...of his very own paradise.
His daughter. His mate.
“I…I do not think that the Night Court is the right environment for you anymore,” Feyre said, her voice shaking and Azriel’s gaze snapped to his High Lady, the tears that tracked down her face.
“You are sending me away?” Elain asked, sounding utterly aghast.
“I’ll ask your mate to come fetch you, Lucien… you may remember him as your fiancé,” Feyre said pointedly.
“I am your sister!” Elain snapped.
“So is Eira,” Feyre gave back, crossing her arms. “And only one of you has tried to destroy the other.”

Wof designs!💥
Starflight- He's kind of green and blue because I remembered the detail that the stars on his wings look like water stains and I also made some light stains that look like those Nights' power stains, he has one purple eye and one blue eye
Glory- Underneath she's the color she has in the presence of other dragons, which is a Skywing color, and on top is her original color that looks like a bird, she has scars because during the adventure she was hurt several times
Tsunami- She's a very dark blue with light stripes that look like waves and she has several scars because of the adventure
Sunny- I didn't make her super cute but she looks a little young, she has very light scales that the one on her face looks like a moon and the other stars, she has one green eye and one blue eye with white pupils (pupils that Nights have)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One detail: I like to think that Nightwings and Seawings have white pupils because they can see in the dark
Taking advantage of the amount of people who are seeing my drawing to help with the petition for an extremely incredible game

—nepenthe
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
content: angst and comfort, reader is ambessa's servant, mentions of prostitution, vi's pitfighter era, make-out session, alcohol, two heartbroken people who honestly just need a hug, mentions of degrading names.
"nepenthe"
– an ancient greek word, nepenthe, is defined as a medicine for sorrow. it is a place, person, or thing, which can aid in forgetting your pain and suffering.
Tumblr media
You sit alone, forehead resting on the surface of the bar. It’s stuffy, crowded with an outpour of Zaunites. The fight in the underground ring must’ve been over now. You sigh, tapping the shot glass against the bar. You try not to let tears gather in the corners of your eyes, free to fall down your cheeks, but it’s nearly hopeless. Being a servant to a high rank is one of the worst paths you could’ve taken.
You remember the days you worked in Babette’s brothel. At least then, you didn’t fall in love with your clients. Why did you love Ambessa so much? Less like a wave and more of a tsunami, she enjoys crashing into you. You love it, too. Ambessa is a lioness, brave and fierce. You’re not a tiger or a panther, not even a common housecat. You’re a stray.
Voices fill your ears from every angle, but the one that isn’t there, the one that you wish to be real repeats endlessly.
“You’re nothing but a whore. Do you really think I’d ever make you my wife?” Her laugh that followed her harsh words rings in your head like a church bell.
“You’re just another filthy Zaunite girl, and that’s what you’ll die as.”
Your whole body trembled when she said that, as she dismissed you. It’s back to the brothels for you, and you wonder if there is anything more humiliating than going from living in a mansion with one of Noxia’s most respected commanders to back in your shabby house in the under city. You can’t dwell on the thought, though you want to. Someone next to you taps your shoulder, nearly causing you to snap. The voice is oddly familiar.
“You look a little pathetic, you know. You didn’t even take the shot.” They say, words harsh but clearly a light tease. The voice is clearly a woman’s, though slurred in a drunken haze. You’ve heard it before, but from where?
You force yourself to sit up and face your left, where the voice is coming from. There is an infamous face. Light freckles dotted over pale skin, and what used to be a reddish-pink hair is now stained a midnight black. The scar on her upper-lip shifts with her smile, though the expression doesn’t quite reach her eyes.
“You can have it.” You mumble, eyes leaving hers. You should feel embarrassed to be moping around in a bar, but you don’t care.
Vi sighs, feeling a twinge of sympathy for you. Regardless, she grabs the shot, tilting her head back as the vodka rushes down her throat. It’ll come back up later.
“What’s your deal?” She asks, scooching closer to you.
“Relationship issues.” You simply say, though the strain in your voice is clear. Relationship, if you could ever call it that. Serving to Ambessa’s every need and bending to her will was a dynamic, you were never her lover. You could never be a wife is a thought that lingers in your head and plagues you like an incoming pandemic, a disease that could wipe out towns. Vi seems to know, but she doesn’t respond. Instead, she leans in, patting your back in a soothing manner.
“My place?” She offers into your ear, words like a poison stronger than alcohol or shimmer. You find yourself walking down the street, leaning on each other as she leads you to her small apartment.
Inside, kisses are sloppy and taste more like a bottle of cheap vodka than anything pleasant. You desperately cup her face, fingers tangled in her hair. Her hands grab your waist and send a much-needed warmth up your spine.
Perhaps if you stop to tell each other who you got your hearts trampled by, then there would be some comforting relations. Vi would tell you that you are more than a whore, and Ambessa would be lucky to have you. That you deserve more than to have to quiet down and be an obedient piece of property. You would tell Vi that she is sweet, deserves better than Caitlyn. But words aren’t exchanged, and that is what makes the kisses so desperate.
You wish to speak it all with your tongue sucking on hers, and she is needy to vent out her frustrations by pushing you down onto her twin-sized bed, quickly following you down. Vi is warm, almost too warm that it burns you to love on her.
You don’t even realize that you began crying until you’re wondering why Vi pulled away. She looks more concerned than turned on, wiping at your cheeks and leaning in to kiss them.
“I’ll punch whoever did this to you.” She states, burying her face into your neck and softly kissing your beating pulse. You’re alive, and it’s a comfort to her. Vi’s breath on the surface of your skin warms you throughout, and you can feel her body. She is real.
You’ll wonder why you’re in this woman’s bed in the morning, perhaps deciding to sneak out before she can even wake up. However, for now, you hold each other, letting your scents mix and your fingers intertwine until the sun rises over the horizon.

You never thought this day would come. Your phone shook in your shaking hands. Tears burned the backs of your eyes before rolling down your cheeks in waves. You stared at the blackened screen, unblinking, shocked, upset, overwhelmed… Too many emotions to fully process properly.
Your mother called. Well, you didn't call her your mother. Technically, yes, she is your birth mother, who birthed you, but she wasn't your mom. Your step-mother was more of a mother than she was. Overall, it was complicated.
Now, the thing was, your mother never called. The day she walked out on you and your father was the last day you had ever seen or heard from her. And that was fifteen years ago.
You had very vague memories of your time and life with her before she left; a time at the local community pool, that one time she taught you how to bake cherry pie, and when she would tuck you in at night. One memory though, that somewhat haunted you at the worst of times, was when she would sing “You Are My Sunshine” to you. You hadn’t listened to that song since she left, it always reminded you too much of her. You hated being reminded of her.
After she left though, walking out on you and your father, it was like she had taken the bright sun with her. For a long time, you didn’t understand why she left or what you had done wrong. For a long time, you thought that you were the reason why she left. Were you not good enough? Were you not a good kid? What did you do to make her hate you that she left?
You tried not to dwell on it, tried to be strong for your dad, who did his best to fill the gaping void she left behind. Your step-mother came into your life years later, a balm to your wounded family, and you slowly started to heal. But the scars remained, faint yet unforgotten.
And now, fifteen years later, that woman had the audacity to call you out of nowhere. How she got your number, you didn’t know. You didn’t really care. Her voice on the other end of the line was hesitant, almost trembling, like she wasn’t sure if you’d even answer. It was awkward, insanely so, and you wished that you had never answered the unknown number.
Her voice faltered as she spoke, a tentative edge threading through every word. “Hi, honey. It’s me,” She began, and for a split moment, you didn’t recognize the sound of her voice, but then it hit you like a tsunami and your eyes widened. It had been fifteen years after all, so it only made sense that you wouldn’t recognize her voice at first or at all. She paused. And it was long, heavy, and suffocating. She was waiting for you to say something. You didn’t. “I… I just wanted to see how you’ve been,” She continued, tone awkward, as if she didn’t know where to start or how much ground there was to cover.
The words hit you, and you fought the urge to hang up right then. “How have I been?” You asked yourself, scoffing mentally.
“I know this is unexpected,” She continued, the slight tremor in her voice betraying her nerves. “I just… I think about you all the time. Wondering how you are doing, where you are. I- I never forgot about you.”
“Okay,” You finally spoke, your voice low, and tone tense. What could you even say to that?
She let out a breath when you spoke finally, “Are you still in the same town?” She asked, her voice continuing to be cautious, “Or… Did you move? I always wondered if you stayed close to home or if you went somewhere else.” There was a painful irony in her words, like she was trying to piece together a puzzle she had willingly walked away from. The puzzle had long been put away, there was nothing to solve. She didn’t know where you were, what you did, or who you had become. “You must be doing well,” She added, trying to sound hopeful, “You were always a smart kid.” You pursed your lips at her words, “What… What have you been up to? Are you working? Married? Kids?”
Her questions came in rapid succession now, but the questions only grated on your nerves, reopening old wounds that you thought had long since scabbed over. She wanted to know everything, it seemed, about the life she had no part in. And all you wanted to know was why she thought she had the right to ask.
You swallowed thickly, feeling tears burn your eyes, but you held them in. Clearing your throat, you finally forced yourself to respond, though your tone was far from warm. Each word felt like it was being dragged out of you. “I moved,” You said shortly, not meeting her invisible gaze through the phone. “To Gotham.”
There was a pause on her end, a brief silence before she spoke again, her voice tinged with surprise. “Gotham? Wow, that’s... That’s far. I never would’ve guessed.”
You ignored the attempt at small talk. “Yeah,” You said curtly, hoping she’d drop the subject - and the call altogether - but of course, she didn’t do either.
“What do you do there? Are you working?”
You clenched your jaw. “I used to,” You replied, keeping it vague. You didn’t owe her the specifics, didn’t owe her anything, really.
Another pause, “Oh, I see. Well, that’s okay. Things happen, right?” She said awkwardly, trying to fill the silence. “There will always be another opportunity.”
You inhaled sharply, her assuming you lost whatever job you had irritated you, and you debated whether or not to answer her next question. The thought of sharing this part of your life with her felt wrong, like exposing something sacred to someone who hadn’t earned the right to know.
“I’m married,” You said reluctantly, your voice stiff and clipped.
Her reaction was immediate, a soft gasp slipping from her lips. “Oh... Oh, wow. Married? That’s-”
“Yeah,” You interrupted, not wanting to hear her feigned excitement or whatever platitudes she had ready. “It happened a while ago.”
Your tone remained distant, each answer another brick in the wall you were determined to keep between you. She might have been your birth mother, but she wasn’t part of your life, and you weren’t about to let her waltz back in like she had any claim to it. Not unless she said or did something worthy enough for your forgiveness.
A flicker of surprise crossed your mind, though, as you realized she hadn’t even heard about your engagement years prior. It had been highly publicized at the time. Then again, she didn’t live in Gotham, and Gotham’s news rarely traveled far beyond the shadow of Metropolis. And you doubted that she was living there.
You shifted on the couch, unable to sit still, your free hand fidgeting with the hem of your sleeve. Every second stretched uncomfortably long as you tried to decide whether to end the call or endure it.
“So... What’s Gotham like?” She asked, her attempt at casual conversation landing awkwardly.
“It’s fine,” You replied shortly, your tone clipped. You tucked a loose strand of hair behind your ear, your fingers trembling slightly.
“Fine?” She echoed, a nervous laugh in her voice. “I hear it can be a bit... Rough, you know, with everything that goes on there. The crime-rate.”
“It has its moments,” You muttered, glancing at the clock. Time wasn’t moving fast enough.
She hesitated, clearly grasping for something else to say. “And your... Your partner?” She asked cautiously. “What’s he like? Or she?”
You swallowed hard, feeling a lump form in your throat. “He’s great,” You said stiffly, leaving it at that. You didn’t elaborate, didn’t offer details. This wasn’t her business.
“That’s good,” She said quickly, “I’m glad you found someone.”
You could feel your stomach twisting as she spoke. Her words were polite enough, but they carried an undercurrent of something you couldn’t quite name - guilt, maybe, or regret. You could only hope. Your grip on the phone tightened, and you shifted again, crossing and uncrossing your legs in an attempt to release some of the tension building in your chest.
“I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable,” She added after another long pause, her voice quieter now.
You bit your lip, “I’m fine,” You said, the words sharper than you intended.
“I just...” She trailed off, sighing softly. “I wanted to hear your voice again. To know how you’re doing. It’s been… It’s been a while…”
Your throat constricted, and you blinked rapidly, trying to keep your emotions in check. You were twisting the hem of your sleeve now, nearly tearing the fabric, your leg bouncing restlessly.
“Well, now you know,” You said bluntly, your voice colder than you meant for it to be.
She was silent for a moment, and the weight of the silence was suffocating. You glanced at the screen, half-hoping the call would drop, giving you an excuse to end it.
“I’ve missed you,” She said finally, her voice breaking slightly. You closed your eyes, exhaling shakily. Your fingers hovered over the “end call” button, and for a moment, you considered pressing it. But something - curiosity, obligation, or maybe just the tiniest trace of unresolved pain - kept you on the line. “And- and I love you. I’ve always loved you,” She added, her voice trembling. The words hit you like a punch to the gut, stealing the breath from your lungs. You stared blankly at the floor, your mind spinning. Your chest tightened painfully, her words stirring emotions you didn’t want to acknowledge.
You didn’t respond, didn’t even trust yourself to speak. “Yeah right. You sure have a funny way of showing it.” You thought. Silence stretched between you, heavy and suffocating, until she filled it once more.
“I love you,” She repeated, her voice softer, almost pleading. It was as if she were hoping that, this time, you’d say it back. When you didn’t, she sighed, the sound tinged with resignation. “Well... You have my number now,” She said quietly. “I hope... I hope you’ll call me or text me sometime.”
“Okay,” You murmured.
There was a pause, and you could hear the sadness in her voice when she said, “Take care of yourself, honey.”
The line went dead with a soft click, and you were left staring at the blackened screen of your phone, your hands still trembling. For a moment, you were frozen, the weight of the conversation pressing down on you like a lead blanket.
Then, the tears came, hot and uncontrollable. They streaked down your face, dripping onto your legs as your shoulders began to shake. A strangled sob escaped your throat, and before you knew it, you were doubling over, clutching the phone tightly in both hands.
Your chest heaved as you gasped for air between sobs, the dam of emotions you’d held back for years finally breaking. You curled into yourself, hugging your knees to your chest as you rocked slightly on the couch, tears streaming endlessly. The sound of your own cries filled the room, raw and unfiltered.
The phone slipped from your grasp and landed on the cushion beside you, forgotten as you buried your face in your hands. It felt like the world had been turned upside down, and all you could do was let the storm of grief, confusion, and anger wash over you.
You didn’t know how long you laid there, your sobs slowly slipping into silence. The tears had long since dried on your cheeks, leaving a salty, tight feeling on your skin. You stared blankly at the wall in front of you, unmoving, your mind overrun with thoughts and emotions. It was as though you were suspended in a void, caught between the past and the present, wishing - oh, god, did you wish - that you had never answered your phone.
You weren’t okay - far from it - but eventually, you felt stable enough to move. Sluggishly, you pushed yourself into a sitting position. Your arms felt leaden as you reached up to rub your warm cheeks, your fingers trembling slightly as you tried to compose yourself.
A shaky sigh escaped your lips. Your head fell forward, your elbows resting on your knees as you stared down at the floor. The weight of all of her words lingered, pressing down on you.
Rising, you sniffled, dragging your socked feet along the cool hardwood floors as you drifted through the living room and down the hall. The dim light of the setting sun filtered through the heavy curtains, casting long shadows against the walls. Usually, you would take the time to admire the sunset, but tonight, you didn’t want to. You continued to wander, slipping past the kitchen and the library.
Your steps faltered momentarily as you approached the grand piano in the corner of the study. Its polished surface gleamed faintly in the dim light. For a moment, you hesitated, your fingers hovering over the cool ivory keys, before pressing a specific sequence - notes that resonated softly through the quiet room.
A faint mechanical click broke the silence as the hidden mechanism activated, part of the bookshelf behind you gliding aside to reveal a concealed elevator. You stepped inside, the doors closing behind you with a quiet hiss. As the elevator descended, the air grew cooler, carrying the faint earthy scent of stone.
The elevator doors opened, the Batcave sprawled before you in all its dark glory. Gleaming metal and stark lighting illuminated the space, reflecting off the walls of jagged rock and smooth concrete. The massive expanse felt both imposing and oddly comforting. The sound of trickling water echoed from the waterfalls and their pools, mingling with the low hum of machinery and the occasional beep of system.
You walked along the narrow bridge that stretched over one of the cave’s pools, the platform ahead glowing faintly from the illumination of the LED lights hanging above. The faint chill of the air seeped through your clothes as your arms wrapped tightly around yourself, seeking warmth.
You lingered a moment longer, your heart tightening as you watched him, his broad shoulders bathed in the soft glow of the monitors. Even in the depths of his focus, there was a quiet compassion about him, a gentleness that softened the unyielding strength he carried. Bruce was your rock, the calm in every storm, and a love so steady, so unwavering, it felt like something you’d only dreamed could be real.
You moved closer, standing beside his chair, the soft glow of the screen illuminating his sharp features. The strong line of his jaw, the way strands of his hair fell over his forehead a bit, the way his lips pressed together in concentration - it was impossible not to love every detail of him.
Bruce was the kind of man who bore the weight of the world without faltering, always making space to carry you through your own storms. He was unwaveringly selfless, fiercely protective, and gave every piece of himself even when he had little left to offer. And, of course, he was devastatingly handsome. Those piercing blue eyes, the unruly dark hair, and a sculpted frame that seemed carved from marble itself. But it was the way he loved you, so completely and unconditionally, that left you breathless every time.
You glanced down at him, your fingers gently grazing the back of his chair. Even without meeting your gaze, you knew he sensed your presence - he always did. Time and again, you found yourself seeking him out, whether you had something to share or simply craved the comfort of being near him.
Without a word, your hand slowly lifted, your fingers grazing through his hair, the strands soft beneath your touch. The simple act brought an immediate sense of calm, as it always did. There was something soothing about the way his hair slipped between your fingers. But the pull of him was too strong. With a soft sigh, you moved around to his side. wordlessly, you lifted one of his arms, sliding into his lap with a gentle movement. Your legs draped over the sides of his chair, your body settling close to his.
Bruce’s hand instinctively rested on your back, fingers splayed across your - his - nightshirt. His other hand, still hovering over the keyboard, stilled for a moment, his muscles relaxing. He didn’t need to say anything - his quiet presence, the warmth of his touch, was really all you needed.
You buried your face in his neck, your cold nose pressing against his warm skin, inhaling his familiar scent. Wrapping your arms around him, you let your fingers slip underneath his shirt, trying to get as much skin-to-skin contact as you could. The warmth of his skin against yours was like coming home, and you let out a soft sigh of relief, closing your eyes as you melted into him. Bruce shifted slightly, his arm tightening around you as he leaned his head against yours.
For the next couple of minutes, neither of you said a word. Bruce didn’t ask if you were alright; he knew better than that. He knew something was wrong. But he would never rush you, and never push you to speak before you were ready. He just held you, patient as always, waiting for you to open up.
You took a deep breath, the weight of everything still pressing heavily on your chest. Finally, your voice broke the silence, soft, hesitant, muffled. “My mother called me.” Your fingers continued to softly trace the contours of his skin, brushing over the faint scars that lay hidden beneath his shirt. The words felt like a stone in your throat, hard to let out but impossible to keep inside for much longer. You needed to vent.
Bruce’s hand, which had been rubbing soothing circles on your own back, paused. You could feel his body shift slightly, his focus entirely on you. “What did she want?” He continued his gentle movements.
You bit your lip, a shaky breath escaping as you finally answered, “She wanted to catch up. After all these years… She wanted to know what I was doing, if I was married, if I had kids…” Your arms around Bruce’s mid-section tightened. “Waltzing back into my life like nothing happened.” The dam inside you broke. You could feel your tears starting to fall, “She just left. She left us - me and dad. Without any explanation. No goodbye. Nothing. And now she thinks she can just pick up the phone like nothing’s wrong? Like everything’s fine?” You shook your head, the bitterness, pain, and confusion flooding your words. “It hurts, Bruce. It hurts so much, and I never was told why, just… Nothing. No answers, no apology.”
As your words began to fade, Bruce’s hand gently tapped your back, signaling for you to sit up. You huffed sadly, wiping your tears away with the back of your hand, feeling exhausted.
Bruce’s eyes softened with understanding. “You’ve never told me about your mother before.”
You shrugged slightly, feeling your heart twist as you dropped your eyes to your hands in your lap. “She was never really in my life.” You hesitated for a moment, but the warmth of Bruce’s touch, his understanding presence, made it easier to continue. You looked back up at him then, meeting his gaze. His eyes were steady, filled with patience and care, and it made everything seem just a little more bearable. “When I was ten, she just… Up and left. She just walked away from me and dad without a word, well, at least to me.” Your voice wavered, thick with emotion. “It wasn’t until I was in my late teens that dad finally told me she left him for another man. She never even tried to explain it to me. I was just… Left behind. And replaced… That guy she left us for had another daughter around my age…”
Bruce’s hand found yours, threading his fingers through yours gently so you would stop picking at your skin, along with to support you. “It hurt so much,” You added quietly, wiping your eyes again with your free hand. “Not just mentally, but emotionally. And then she calls me, after all this time, and it just… It opened the wound again. I thought it had healed, but it’s still there.”
Bruce’s hand squeezed yours, his thumb brushing over the back of your knuckles. “I’m so sorry you went through that,” He murmured, his free hand brushing your hair back from your eyes before cupping your cheek. “You didn’t deserve that. You didn’t deserve any of it.” You tilted your head into his palm, nuzzling closer, covering his hand with yours, grateful for his unwavering support, for his gentle affection that surrounded you like a shield. “And you’re not alone,” He whispered, his voice filled with a quiet strength that anchored you. “You have your dad, your step-mom, and of course, you have Alfred. And I’m here. I will always be here for you.” He then lifted your hand, his eyes never breaking contact with yours. His thumb ran over the wedding ring, a soft smile forming on his lips. “To death do us part, remember?” He said lovingly, reassuringly, before pressing a gentle kiss to the space above the ring on your hand.
You let out a breathy mix of a sigh and a chuckle, smiling as you repeated his words, “To death do us part.” Your heart swelled, feeling the warmth of his love, and you knew, deep down, he was right. You weren't alone, not now, not ever. Your heart swelled with gratitude, with love, the tears slowly drying up. Bruce wasn’t just your husband; he was your home. And in his arms, you finally felt like you could breathe again. "Thank you, Brucie," You slowly, “But, I don’t know what to do now." You admitted, the words spilling out before you could stop them. "I don’t know how to move forward. I don’t even know if I should call her... Or if I should let her in again."
"It’s all your choice, sweetheart," He said, his voice unwavering. "You don’t have to do anything you’re not ready for." You let out a shaky breath, leaning back into him, finding comfort in the steady beat of his heart beneath your ear. "Just because she called, trying to reconnect, doesn’t mean you have to call her tomorrow or even a week from now." He continued, "It could be three years from now, or six months. Whenever you feel ready. Or you don’t ever have to call her." The reassurance in his voice eased some of the tightness in your chest, the pressure to make a decision immediately slipping away. "You’ll know when you’re ready," Bruce added, "And no matter what you decide, I’m here for you."
You closed your eyes, taking in his words, letting the warmth of his embrace comfort you. For once, the world didn’t feel as heavy. “If I call her, will you be there with me?”
"Of course," Bruce said, "I'll be right beside you, every step of the way. Whatever you need, I’m here. If you decide to reach out to her, I’ll be there with you." He then cupped the back of your head, his thumb brushing softly upon your hair. He pressed a tender kiss to your forehead, lingering for a moment as he then nuzzled his nose into your hairline. He pulled back just enough to glance at the clock on his monitors. His eyes softened as he looked back at you, his voice gentle but filled with determination. "I’m staying home from patrol tonight," He said, "We can order your favorite take-out, watch one of our movies." His expression was thoughtful, and you could tell that he was making sure everything would be exactly how you needed it to be. Trying to make the rest of the night as comforting and fun as possible. “I’ll even see if Alfred would mind making cookies.”
You sat up slowly, wiping away any lingering tears as a small smile tugged at your lips. The idea of a quiet night with him, no worries or demands, was exactly what you needed. "Can we cuddle?"
Bruce's lips quirked upward and without a word, he moved to pull you closer, his arms wrapping around you. "Of course, my love," He whispered, his voice deep and soothing. "Anything for you."

WRIOTHESLEY LAUGHS as you drag him through the Fortress of Meropide, drawing the attention of those around you. Though typically, you’d feel uncomfortable, embarrassed, or perhaps self-conscious under the scrutinizing gaze of others, this time, it’s different. Your attention is focused solely on Wriothesley as he holds his free hand up to his bloodied nose. Knowing Wriothesley and his job here, it’s easy to imagine it resulting from a scuffle with a particularly stubborn criminal or something along those lines. However, the truth cannot be farther from that. In actuality, you’re the one responsible for this bloody nose. . . Allow me to expand on the situation a little.
Around a week or so ago, he unexpectedly marched into your office and insisted you learn how to fight. His motives for the sudden declaration were not out of a lack of appreciation for your work at the Fortress but rather a desire for your protection while he’s away. On another note, he believes you’re too “reserved and gentle” with others—“too much like a frightened kitten rather than a fearsome lion,” as he blatantly put it. It was a comparison you found somewhat degrading, yet you couldn’t deny it did speak the truth of your nature. In the end, you decided to comply with his wishes, and from there on out, he started to teach you self-defense and train you.
Cut to the present: Wriothesley pulled you aside for your daily training session. Everything was going swimmingly at first, with you defending yourself from his attacks as usual. Then, amid it all, you accidentally hit him square in the nose and rather hard at that. The punch was neither intentional nor malicious, but it still managed to send him stumbling back and clutching his nose in pain. A tsunami of guilt and worry flooded your system as you frantically apologized to him, but he simply brushed it off and smiled. The look in his eyes was one of mild shock but also of something more. . . fond. He seemed amused rather than angry or annoyed, appearing to be impressed and even a little smitten.
Sigewinne enters the infirmary with the medical supplies you requested, stopping just inside the door to ask you a question. She furrows her brow in concern, noticing the panic in your expression. “Are you sure you don’t want me to take care of him, Mx. (Y/N)? You’re a bit pale. . . Maybe you should sit and rest for a little while,” she offers kindly.
Wriothesley observes you with a lovesick expression as you prepare a cotton swab, your tongue poking out between your lips from concentration. His heart singes when you take his hand that’s pressed to his nose and lay it gently on his lap; your skin is warm and soft compared to his, scarred and calloused, from his duties here at the Fortress.
When you assure her with that enchanting smile of yours—the same one that drives him wild—it feels like his entire body has been set on fire, and he’s certain you can feel that fire when you press your palm to his cheek to keep him still. “D—Don’t worry, Sigewinne. I’ll be alright. Thank you, though.” You answer calmly, despite your hold on him being slightly shaky.
With a brief nod of her head, Sigewinne slips out of the room, leaving you and Wriothesley alone. As you press the cotton swab to his nose, he lets out a sharp hissing sound as the disinfectant works its magic. “Ouch! Shit, maybe I didn’t give you enough credit. That was a hell of a punch. . .” he chortles, trying to lighten up your mood a little. But his amusement falters when you pout, your face a heartbreakingly adorable sight.
“I—I really am sorry, Your Grace! I didn’t expect to hit you so hard. . . In—In fact, I thought you’d move out of the way before I even got the chance too,” you lament and carefully tilt his chin up, making sure you cleaned all the blood off. “How badly does it hurt? Do—Do you want me to go get some painkillers or ice? Please, just—”
“Breathe, (Y/N).” Wriothesley’s tone is soothing as he speaks, seeming intent on consoling you. “I’m perfectly fine, sweetheart. I’ve dealt with far worse scuffs than this. So, please, don’t think for a second I’m mad at you or anything of that nature. I’m more proud than anything, really.” He adds, melting under the warmth and care of your gaze. He finds himself feeling a little selfish in this moment, wishing you’d always spend so much time doting on him. You’re always so engrossed in your work, and as much as he admires that side of you, he’s also become increasingly smitten with you without you even batting an eye. Your self-absorbed disposition has made you oblivious to his adoring eyes, and he can’t help but feel a mix of heartbreak and longing as he considers how blind you are to his affections. “Hm. . . Now that we’re alone, there is something I’ve been wanting to tell you for a while,” he admits, humming contentedly as your hand presses to his face once more, oblivious to the surge of adrenaline that shoots through his veins with every touch. Your affectionate actions result from your nurturing demeanor, but he begs silently for them to mean something more.
Your puzzled expression, bearing a resemblance to a confused puppy, only further softens the gentle smile on Wriothesley’s face. “Is that so? Is—is there a reason you’re only bringing it up now?” You inquire anxiously, teeth sinking into your lower lip. You hope that your unexpected punch wasn’t the last straw for him firing you or something like that. The worry in your voice and tension in your body language betray your deep concern, and Wriothesley finds himself smitten by your innocence and tenderness.
The duke pauses momentarily, seeming to mull something over in his mind. “It’s been harder to get you alone these days, with you always engrossed in your paperwork or helping Sigewinne. I can’t bring myself to tear you away when you’re always so faithful.” He acknowledges. His eyes linger over your lips for just a moment too long, his imagination taking over as he considers the softness of them and how they taste. His heart pounds against his ribcage as he holds back the urge to kiss those teeth away and murmur how he’s the only one allowed to ruin your lips.
You mutter the words, “My apologies, your Grace,” as you press the bandage to the bridge of his nose. Taking a step back, you freeze under the intensity of his gaze. “Well, you have my full, unrivaled attention as of r-right now...?” You try to sound confident, but your sheepish expression gives you away.
Wriothesley hums in response, amused and enticed by the sudden color that washes over your face. Clearing his throat, he slips one hand around your waist and pulls you flush against his warm frame. His eyes flutter shut for a brief moment as he allows the intensity of the moment to sink in. “Oh? Do I now? Good,” he purrs, his voice deep and velvety as it echoes in your ears—sending vibrations throughout your core. You shudder when the smooth of his fingers glide over the exposed skin on your waist, and he almost finds it a little sadistic with how much he’s enjoying you squirm when he hasn’t even done anything.
Your breathing becomes a touch erratic as you feel the lingering touch of his hand against your waist. You attempt to mask your growing excitement, skin prickling with electricity. Despite your best efforts, there’s a faint quiver in your words that you can only hope he doesn’t notice. “G—Go on. . .”
Sadly, nothing gets past Wriothesley’s gaze, and he’s able to take note of your trembling voice and hands; he isn’t the duke for nothing, after all. He can’t help but feel the boost to his ego when he realizes he has a tight grip over you at this moment. With a swift tug, you’re suddenly pushed against his broad chest, eyes blown wide. He chuckles as you choke over your words, swiping his thumb over your bottom lip. “You know, (princess/prince). . . I can’t tell if you’re just dense or trying to prove something to yourself.” The raven-haired male teases. “I’ve been smitten with you for weeks now, you know,” he presses, eyes trained on your expression to read any changes. “I can’t help but wonder if you’re as aware as your actions suggest—or if you have been merely feigning ignorance. Please, explain yourself.”
Your breath catches in your throat as the magnitude of Wriothesley’s words settles in; he’s so direct and brazen with his declaration that it sucks all the breath out of your lungs. Your mind races as you grapple with the sudden realization that he is just as enamored with you as you are with him. Your expression must speak louder than words because as you open your lips to speak, Wriothesley closes the distance—slotting his mouth on yours.
It sends all your senses reeling like they’ve been drenched in ice water after burning for too long. Like a balm and a spark, it’s both a soothing salve and a blazing inferno, comforting and ravaging you in equal measure. All the tension of your attraction has suddenly become a physical manifestation, the culmination of all the unspoken words and feelings that have gone unsaid for too long.
Wriothesley pulls himself even closer to you, his passion only intensifying the longer the kiss carries on. The feeling of his body pressing against yours ignites a primal urge within you, driving the kisses to become more intense. His hands slide further down the bare flesh of your back, tracing your waist in a possessive claim to your body. His tongue dives underneath your bottom lip; it probes between them, trying to gain access to the interior of your mouth.
A noise akin to a muffled whimper escapes your throat as his tongue pushes into your mouth with a feverish, nearly desperate need. The intensity of the sensation is overwhelming, and you feel yourself shudder with a sense of raw desire as his hand slides down from your hip to your thigh, his fingers squeezing and digging into the soft flesh. His touch is both tender and possessive, sending your nerves reeling.
When his fingers climb closer up your thighs, you plant your hands on his face and gently push his head away, his mouth chasing after yours instantaneously. You sigh softly, your face flushed scarlet from the heat of the situation. “Wriothesley. . . We are still in your office. Anyone can walk in at any time.” You chuckle, swiping the saliva from his bottom lip.
His body hums with contentment at the breathless sound of his name coming from your lips. He lets out a displeased huff as he nestles his nose in the crook of your neck, sharply inhaling your scent and drowning himself in the warmth of your body. He absentmindedly starts nipping at your skin, “And? I’ve had enough nights getting off—”
“O—Okayokay! As an. . . apology for keeping you waiting, how about after work, we fulfill those fantasies of yours?” You chuckle nervously and thread your fingers through his hair, smiling when he leans his entire body onto you. “Don’t think I didn’t see the way some of the inmates looked at me when I dragged you in here. . . I don’t think I could recover if they walked in and found out they guessed right.”
Wriothesley’s laughter is like a deep, thunderous rumble that soon after swarms your stomach with butterflies. His kisses pepper your face in response, the sweet scent of your skin filling him with a sense of contentment. He pulls away and smiles down at you, the heat and adoration in his eyes impossible to miss. “After work, then,” he repeats and holds up his pinky, signaling you to do the same. Rolling your eyes, you indulge him and hook your pinky to his—a cutesy gesture veiled in a not-so-innocent promise.

Tumblr media
━━━━━━•───⋅☽𖤐☾⋅───•━━━━━
[season of the witch masterlist]
warnings: none
a/n: The aftermath of the "very mindful, very cutesy, very demure" trend from tiktok. These are drabbles and include Az, Cas & Eris. But Az's is probably the longest at 1K words and no longer a drabble lol, Cas's is 700 and Eris's is 850.

Azriel x Green Witch
The scent of earth and herbs filled the air as you approached your patch of snapdragons, their vibrant green stems standing tall but flowerless. Kneeling beside them, you set down the small, ceramic watering can filled to the brim with moon water and reach out to touch the leaves, your fingers trailing over them as delicately as the breeze.
“Good morning, my little ones,” you murmured. "How are you feeling today?"
Your garden came to life, the plants surrounding you swaying slightly in response. All, except for the shy yet stubborn snapdragons.
You frowned.
“The soil is rich and I’ve kept the pests at bay. I’ve planted you where the sun is bright and the air is cool. Very thoughtful of me, isn’t it?”
The snapdragons still did not respond.
With a sigh, you began to water them. Snapdragons were native to Autumn and thrived during the cooler months. From what you read, these flowers had a personality of their own and despite being named after the brazen beasts that soared in the skies, they were demure.
You knew it would be difficult to get them to bloom here in the Night Court but as the Autumn season approached, you were determined to grow them yourself. Their seeds could be used to make healing oils and if the stubborn flowers favored you, they would gift you with their small but mighty fire breath that you could use to make a warming potion.
“See how I’m not overwatering you? Very mindful.” You continued, setting the watering can back down, using the oldest trick in the book. Like calls to like and if you could show the flowers that you could be like them, perhaps they’d bless you by blossoming.
“I’m not doing too much. Very demure."
You smiled fondly at them, knowing they were listening. "I understand that a beauty like yours cannot be rushed. But know that I am waiting to see your colors, to feel the warmth you bring.”
As if finally acknowledging your presence, one snapdragon in particular—a tiny bud, the smallest of them all—quivered ever so slightly. You leaned closer, your heart swelling with hope when a shadow came over you.
You rose to your feet, brushing at the dirt on your skirts as you turned around. The corners of your mouth curved upward, your heart fluttering with that familiar, gentle tug deep within your chest—the unmistakable pull of his presence.
“Azriel.” You greeted as his familiar form emerged from the shadows.
His wings shuddered, his shadows dispersing like ink in water, revealing him before they settled at his feet. As always, a few of the inky tendrils reached out to you, caressing your skin with their smooth, cool touch. One, more daring than the others, wrapped itself around your arm and nestled there, refusing to let go.
“Looks like someone missed me.” You laughed.
“I missed you more.” Azriel grinned, taking a step forward.
He reached out, his hand brushing a loose strand of hair behind your ear, his touch lingering against your cheek. You gasped at the chill of his skin, your brows knitting together in concern as you clasped his hand between your own. “Cauldron above, you’re freezing!”
You reached for his other hand, gathering both of his scarred hands into your warm grasp. The rough texture of his skin contrasted sharply with the softness of your touch, and your heart ached at the thought of him enduring such cold, worried it’d bring him more pain.
“I’m used to it,” Azriel murmured, his tone dismissive as he shrugged off your concern. “Illyria’s temperatures have always been brutal.”
But you couldn’t shake the worry. Azriel tried to pull his hands away, but you held on tighter, green magic swirling around his fingers, gently massaging the ridged scars. His right wing twitched under your fussing, and you brought his hands to your lips, pressing soft kisses to the backs of each one.
Your lips against his skin felt like a soothing balm, and he could feel warmth spreading from his hands up to his neck, making his breath hitch.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be able to brew a potion that will keep you warm at all times soon.”
“It’s okay, don’t trouble yourself. I can handle a little cold every now and then,” he replied, trying to downplay the discomfort, but you frowned up at him.
“Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.”
You released his hands, the warmth of your magic still wrapped around him. The idea of a warming potion was tempting, but Azriel knew how overwhelmed you were with requests from other fae in need. He could wait—there were others who needed you more. Yet, when he looked into your eyes, filled with such fierce affection and determination, he knew he wouldn’t win this argument.
Azriel’s arms wrapped around you, pulling you close as he pressed a kiss to your forehead. “That’s very thoughtful of you,” he murmured.
You grinned up at him, your eyes sparkling. “Very demure.”
“What?” He asked, puzzled by your teasing tone.
Before you could respond, a gentle breeze brushed past, drawing your attention back to the patch of snapdragons. Azriel followed your gaze, his hazel eyes curious. The small bud that had been trembling moments before began to unfurl, its petals peeling back like layers of silk. Your breath caught in your throat as the snapdragon revealed itself in all its glory—a vibrant bloom of deep crimson, its edges kissed with gold.
"There you are," you breathed, your voice filled with wonder. "Oh, you are magnificent."
The bloom seemed to bask in your praise, its petals resembling a dragon’s mouth opening wide. A small cloud of smoke puffed from the center, followed by a gentle hiss, and then, with a tiny roar, the snapdragon emitted a small burst of fire. Instinctively, Azriel’s arms tightened around you, but you placed a calming hand on his chest.
“I knew you could do it,” you said to the flower, your heart swelling with pride and joy.

Cassian x Love Witch
Cassian dropped his toast, eyes widening as you walked into the kitchen, humming softly to yourself. The tune was light, almost suspiciously nonchalant, but it was your outfit that truly caught him off guard. He swallowed the food in his mouth, clearing his throat as he tried to process what he was seeing.
“What are you wearing?”
“Good morning to you too,” you replied with a sweet smile, leaning in to kiss his cheek before gliding past him to the steaming cup of coffee waiting for you.
Cassian blinked, still in disbelief. “What are you wearing?” he repeated.  Your usual vibrant pinks were replaced by muted tones—dark navy pants, a soft beige top, and matching flats. The only hint of pink was in the pearl earrings dangling from your ears, and even those were a subtle shade, almost blending in.
Cassian could count on one hand the number of times you’d worn anything other than your signature bright pinks. One of them being your wedding day, where you wore a beautiful white dress but even then, your platform heels were a bold hot pink.
“Clothes.” You answered simply, leaning against the kitchen counter to face him.
“I see that…,” Cassian exhaled, blinking as if trying to wake from a strange dream. But this was real, and it was slightly unsettling. “But why?”
You raised an eyebrow, a playful glint in your eyes as you sipped your coffee. “Are you asking me why I’m wearing clothes?”
“Sweetheart, you know exactly what I’m asking.”
You sighed, the lightheartedness fading from your eyes as you wrapped your arms around yourself, a gesture that sent a ripple of unease through him. “I’m going to try and be a little more… demure.”
“What?”
“Try and be a little more demure.” You repeated.
“Demure,” Cassian chuckled. At the sight of your lips curving down into a frown, all amusement drained from Cassian’s face and his heart tightened. “Oh, you were serious?”
When you remained silent, Cassian stood, concern replacing his earlier confusion. He closed the distance between you, his large hand gently lifting your chin, coaxing your gaze to meet his. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” you replied honestly, though there was a hint of uncertainty in your voice. “It’s just… I overheard some fae at Rita’s talking about this trend. To not do too much, to be more subtle, to be demure.”
Cassian’s brow furrowed as he studied you, a small, tender smile forming on his lips. “Sweetheart, you are anything but demure.”
Your glare was immediate, but it was more a pout than anything, and Cassian couldn’t help the fondness that swelled in his chest. “I can be anything I want to be,” you retorted.
“Yes,” he agreed, his thumb caressing your cheek in a way that sent a shiver of warmth down your spine. “But I just want you to be you.”
His words hung in the air, a gentle reminder of the love he had for the vibrant, unapologetically you. When you didn’t respond, Cassian leaned in, pressing a kiss to your cheek, his lips lingering as if willing you to let go of whatever doubt had crept into your heart.
Slowly, a smile tugged at the corners of your lips, and with it, the glamour over your clothes faded away. Gone were the muted colors, replaced by the vivid shades of pink that Cassian adored—the colors that were as much a part of you as your laughter and your light.
Because when have you ever given in to trends? You, who shone like a beacon of color in a world that could be so gray, had always embraced who you were without hesitation. The opinions of others rarely fazed you, but sometimes, even you needed a reminder and Cassian was more than glad to do it for you.
“There she is,” he murmured, giving your cheek another kiss before pulling you into his arms. “My bright, shining star.”
You melted into his embrace, a contented sigh escaping your lips as your hands trailed up his back, reveling in the solid strength beneath his shirt. “Your hugs are the best,” you whispered, nuzzling into his warmth.
"They are?"
His arms tightened around you, the familiar scent of him wrapping around you like a comforting blanket.
“Mm, you feel so strong. Makes me feel so…demure.”
Tumblr media
Eris x Chaos Witch
The kitchen was nearly empty, the scent of cooked herbs and roasted meats still lingering in the air. The flickering candlelight cast long shadows on the stone walls, making the space feel both vast and suffocating. The cooks had long since retired, and only a few servants remained, their weary faces reflecting the strain of another long day in the Forest House.
The High Lord was away, leaving the Lady of Autumn and her sons that lived here to tend to. The noble lords and advisors who usually filled these halls were absent tonight, choosing to attend dinner only when Beron himself was present or if they were invited by Eris. It should have made the evening easier to endure, but one sharp comment from Reed had nearly shattered the delicate guise you'd worked so hard to maintain.
You felt Eris’s presence before he even crossed the threshold. A strange sensation creeping up your ribcage–like a warning.
Your knuckles turned white as you gripped the marble edge of the counter, the cold stone grounding you. A deep breath—one that burned your lungs—did little to quell the storm raging within. The servants, sensing the tension crackling in the air, quickly scattered, their hurried footsteps echoing off the walls.
His eyes, usually gleaming with mischief, were now sharp and assessing. He was close now, the heat of his body a reminder of the power he wielded—not just over flame, but over this entire court and perhaps, even over you…
Your heart pounded in your chest, threatening to stir the darkness that lived inside you awake. That sinister and wicked side of you. The one that nearly slipped when Reed–
“That wasn’t very demure of you.”
Eris's tone was light and teasing, but beneath it lay a dark edge.
Demure.
The very epitome of the Autumn Court, reserved specifically for the fae females. A female was meant to be modest and reserved. Gentle and feminine. Quiet and docile. Dressed in muted Autumn colored dresses that left little to no skin exposed, allowing one to blend within backgrounds.
Never drawing attention to herself.
It was what you forced yourself to be. A demure, young fae that worked in the kitchens of the great Autumn estate, serving the dignified and vehement Vanserras. More like vain Vanserras…
But tonight, the quiet, demure, and soft-spoken facade nearly cracked, allowing the fierce, raging beast that lurked within to claw its way to the surface.
Eris was angry and he had every right to be. The weight of your secret hung heavily between you, a volatile force that threatened to consume everything if unleashed. However, you’d be damned if you’d let him know you were ever in agreement.
“The depth of my concern could not be further shallowed.” You replied sharply with a glare.
Eris took another step forward, gaze dropping briefly before lifting back up to meet yours. His lips curled up into a sneer.  “Drop the knife.”
You clenched your hands and it was only then that you realized in the midst of your turmoil, you had picked up one of the knives on the counter, its sharp edge pointed at Eris.
“Drop the attitude first.”
A muscle feathered in his jaw and the fire in his eyes burned brighter. Strong and powerful magic surged through you but the blood that coursed through your veins was no different than any commoner’s. And you knew it irked him to be spoken in such a way by a common fae.
“I can kill you, you know,” he said casually, one hand reaching out for yours–the one that held the knife. He forced your hand down. “Save myself from all the trouble you bring…”
“Death does not frighten me.” You reminded him just as casually.
Eris’s eyes softened for a moment, a flicker of something you could not discern sparking in his amber gaze. But it was fleeting, replaced quickly by the calculating gaze of a future High Lord, one who was currently navigating a treacherous game. Much to his dismay, he needed you if he wanted a chance at winning. Just as much as you needed him…
He leaned in close, his breath warm against your ear. He wanted you to tremble before him, to fear him.  “Then, I will deny you death until you beg me on your knees for it.”
Your hand tensed against the knife you still held and Eris, whose hand still remained over yours, grew hot. Flames danced from his fingertips, heating against your skin. It was a fleeting kiss of heat that sent a sharp, tingling sensation coursing through your skin but not hot enough to burn. Not yet.
“Do you think about that image a lot? Of me on my knees?”
Eris’s hand left yours. A wave of relief washed over you and you resisted the urge to cradle your hand to your chest.
He took a step back, amber eyes sweeping over you with a slow, deliberate gaze. “It would suit you.”
“Keep dreaming, Vanserra.”
Eris's chuckle broke the silence, but it was a hollow sound, stripped of any true amusement. His eyes continued to bore into you with a searing intensity. "For both our sakes," he warned, his voice low and edged with a dangerous calm, "see that it doesn’t happen again."
Without waiting for a response, he turned and walked away, his footsteps echoing ominously. You stood alone, the lingering tension from his presence intertwining with your own growing anxiety.
With every beat of your heart, the darkness seemed to creep closer, and the storm of chaos you fought to contain felt ever more on the verge of breaking free.

a/n: When thinking about the demure trend, my mind had drifted to how each witch would be. Green witch gives off the most "demure" vibes. Then, I saw a tiktok resurfacing a clip from The Nanny of Fran saying she wants to be demure and it made me think of Love witch.
Chaos witch knows she's not demure, even though she has to pretend to be. I might actually use that scene between them in a one shot. It's hard writing short stuff for Eris & Chaos when I haven't written the prologue/introduction. I hope it's not confusing to follow along. For now, all you have to know is that they have their separate goals but must reluctantly work together if they want to see them come to light.

Looked to the Sky - Chapter 3
Summary:
Eira Archeron was neither a Valkyrie, nor a Seer, nor the High Lady of the Night Court. She was, however, Azriel‘s mate with her own mysterious, untrained powers.
Also known as: Azriel tries to court his mate the human way.
Warnings:
THIS IS THE LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE SEQUEL! SO READ THAT FIRST IF YOU WANNA READ THIS ONE OTHERWISE THIS MAKES NO SENSE!
Elain Bashing, Amren bashing, Cassian is being annoying, Azriel's scars and his thoughts about them, Chronic Pain and without @k-godling this would have never happened.
(super pretty dividers by @tsunami-of-tears)
Tumblr media
Azriel was quite certain that his shadows were out to kill him.
They were acting like a couple of obsessed, lovesick teenagers around Eira, unable to keep away from her for even a second, constantly wrapping around her hands, winding through her hair, curling around her fingers, as if eager to remain in contact with her 24/7.
And they also kept...dressing her.
He knew they did that because the dress she wore that evening was nothing he had ever seen her in before.
It wasn't like it was particularly revealing. It had long sleeves that covered her wrists and the skirt fell to the floor as well. It wasn't even the fact that the neckline bared her shoulders, elegant, flawless ivory skin on display for him. It wasn't even that it bared the arch of her neck with the way they had swept her hair up into an elegant knot high on her head...or the silver pins they scattered through the updo...It was the rich cobalt blue of that dress that matched his siphons perfectly.
The sight of her in that gown had nearly stolen his breath away, his heart nearly having stopped altogether at the way the rich blue fabric looked against her ivory skin. It made her skin glow and accentuated each and every contour of her body…showing him the soft swell of her breasts, the dip of her waist, her hips…
She was the most breathtakingly beautiful sight, the very picture of grace and loveliness and perfection.
And the most infuriating thing was that Eira didn't even seem to realise it.
She ducked her head shyly…like she expecting him to say something…negative about how she looked, instead of seeing how he nearly fell all over himself as he saw her descend the stairs in the River House...and the fact that he kept clutching that bouquet of flowers like an absolute idiot.
The books had told him to give her flowers. And then they had also supplied him with a whole list of flower meanings when they were already at it.
He had chosen snowdrops. They weren't even in season, which meant his shadows had gone so far as to go to the Winter Court to find them for him, but they clearly thought it to be worthwhile, if the look on Eira’s face when he had offered her the bouquet had been any indication.
There were two reasons for this choice: Her scent had always been a perfect match to them for him...and their meaning: Hope and new beginnings.
Part of him had wanted to tell her the reasons for his choice. Had wanted to tell her the meaning of the snowdrops, to tell her that more than anything, he hoped that the bond between them would continue to grow…But he had bitten his tongue and simply handed them over, silently praying that she would like them.
For a moment, her eyes had widened, her lips slightly parted in surprise, a look of wonder on her face. "They’re gorgeous," Eira had whispered, carefully taking the bouquet from him. “Thank you so much.”
Her words had made his heart flutter. But nothing had quite hit him quite so hard as when she had leaned slightly forward to bury her nose in the blooms, inhaling the delicate scent with a blissful little smile on her face.
And then the shadows had whisked them away and Eira had smiled at him, grey eyes wide and happy. "Do you often attend the symphony?" she had asked him quietly.
He had needed a moment to remember how to form words in his head, too focused on the smile on her face, the soft scent of snowdrops still clinging to her, making his instincts go berserk. Azriel had to force himself to focus, to remember that she had asked him a question. A question he actually had to answer.
"More often than one would think," he admitted. "I...enjoy music," he told her quietly. The soft confession left his lips before he had consciously realised it.
It was the truth, of course. He hadn’t lied. He did enjoy music, though it wasn’t something that people tended to associate with him much at all. Most people tended to think that he spent his time stewing in the darkness and brooding. (Which wasn’t to say that he didn’t do that…but he did have…hobbies of sorts. Music was one of them.)
But he did enjoy the concert halls in Velaris immensely. The symphony in particular.
Eira’s smile softened at his answers. "Do the shadows like the music too?" she wondered. His shadows practically vibrated with excitement at her words, preening at the fact that she had thought to ask them.
Very much so, they answered brightly.
He looked down at the way they twirled around her hands, the way they twisted around each other like dancing ribbons, as if they were showing off their enjoyment, unable to deny her a single word. Azriel suppressed a smile at the sight.
"They love it," he confirmed quietly.
"So are you going to winnow us one of these days, Az?" Cassian broke into the conversation, his patience clearly ending.
Azriel shot him a glare, though Nesta was there before him. His brother wasn’t even subtle enough to have hidden the smirk on his face. The bastard knew exactly what he was doing.
Azriel wanted nothing more than to throttle him.
He held out his hands for Cassian, who in turn had his arm around Nesta, who had watched the whole interaction with sparkling grey eyes...and then he held out his arm for Eira. She slipped her hand in the crook of his elbow, giving him one of these shy but dazzling smiles.
The minute her hand slipped into the crook of his elbow, his shadows purred in satisfaction, their voices sounding oddly smug as they twirled around their fingers.
One moment they had been in the Foyer of the River House...the next they were in the private Box the High Lord kept at the Symphony in Velaris. courtesy of Rhys. It made security much less of a hassle and the private box would also ensure some quiet. Which meant he could give Eira his undivided attention. Something he very much intended to do.
Eira stared around wide-eyed, her hand tightening around his arm and he allowed himself to pat it with his other...feel the perfect, flawless skin underneath his own scarred hands. It was hit or miss on a good day how much he could even feel with his hands at all, but that day he could swear he could feel every freckle.
Her skin under his fingertips was so smooth, so flawless, completely unblemished. The thought that his hands, his hands rough and calloused, marked with scars, were touching her soft skin seemed almost like blasphemy. As if he shouldn’t be allowed to touch her, as if his hands weren’t good enough to even be near her.
"Oh," she breathed out, still wide-eyed. "It's beautiful."
Azriel followed her gaze, taking in the sight of the great hall, of its black and gold, the sheer size of it, the great stage, the hundreds of seats. He had to admit that it was pretty, but in that moment he hardly noticed the beauty of the hall. His eyes were on Eira, the look of wonder on her face as she took in the symphony.
"Did you never go before?" he wondered, but she shook her head.
"I haven't really seen much of Velaris," she admitted quietly. "I found the alterations tailor shop where I take commissions from and...sometimes I go in a shop that piques my interest but I have never gone to the symphony."
Azriel had to fight down a wince at that confession.
He knew that she mostly spent her time in the River House but the thought that she hadn’t even seen the city...it bothered something deep down inside of him. How could she have been here for over two years and still not have seen everything Velaris had to offer?
But it also gave him...it gave him options what he could show her next...what they could do. If humans did carriage rides, could he get away with offering to take her out on a midday flight?
The thought of her flying with him tugged on something deep inside of him. A primitive part that he usually wrestled into submission easily. But this time it didn’t want to be silent, insisting that he could show her far more of the city, could show her himself while doing so. That part of him practically preened at the thought of having her hold onto him tightly as they flew through the air...
"Do you play any instruments?"  Eira asked suddenly as he escorted her to her seat, letting her gracefully slide into it.
Azriel’s brows shot up in slight surprise.
For a moment, he just stared at her blankly, blinking, his brain needing a moment to get back on track after the thought of a flight.
Then the question registered and he just about managed not to flinch. He shook his head, mutely. "I...I can't," he said, his voice hoarse. "I tried the piano but my hands..."
He trailed off and gestured vaguely towards his scarred fingers.
He gestured to his hands, the scars, to the crooked little finger on his left hand. The scars were one thing, but the fact that he could barely feel anything in his hands...he usually managed the tremors, but his hands never cooperated enough to allow him to properly play the piano. Sometimes, on the worst of days, he could hardly hold a pen and actually write something legible.
He had enough pure grip strength to hold a sword, a dagger, and a knife… sometimes the fact that he didn’t actually have much feeling in his hands was a good thing in a fight.
He had learned to mask it, of course...learned to use the right amount of pressure in a myriad of situations...learned to be gentle enough not to hurt anybody accidentally. But even with that...playing the piano had been a try once and never again.
He had made his peace with the fact that he simply wasn’t meant to play the piano. Had long since accepted that he was simply not good enough. But the part of him that still burned, that still ached when he thought about what he had lost, ached at the thought that he would never be good enough to play the piano, to play anything, really…it never stopped.
His half-brothers hadn’t just given him unspeakable constant pain…but they had also taken so much from him.
Eira stared down at his fingers in surprise, as if she was only now noticing the scars in them. His fingers itched at the way she stared at the scars on them, his instincts suddenly screaming at him to hide them from her, to not let her see. But he couldn’t do that. So he let her stare, letting her see even the scars.
There was a strange intensity on her face as her eyes roamed over the scars, almost as if...
Almost as if she was memorising every single one of them.
And then she reached out, taking one of his hands into both of hers, carefully touching the thick scars that covered the back of his hand completely.
Azriel nearly startled when she took his hand, only just managing to keep his instincts in check. His entire attention honed in on the touch of her hands, the soft way her fingertips traced the scars on the back of his hand, almost as if she was treating his skin like something very, very fragile.
The moment the lights went out and darkness engulfed them, his shadows twirled through his hair with soft, almost mischievous voices in his mind
He had to stop himself from closing his eyes, from focusing on the feeling of her fingertips tracing his scars, from focusing on the fact that she was holding his hand.
Instead, he clenched his jaw, forcing himself to actually look towards the stage, to pretend that he was not focused on every single point of contact between their skin.
He wasn't sure what he had expected. Wasn't sure if he had expected her pity or anything else...
He had never talked about the scars much. Hadn’t really talked about…how they appeared on her skin. Didn’t talk about what they meant for him…how they still hurt him, to this day, centuries later and how they would still hurt him decades from now.
And he certainly had never had anyone actually look at them so intently, so gently...let alone touch them like she was now.
He never allowed anyone to touch his hands, if he could help it, except for the people he trusted with his life.
And now here Eira was, holding his hand and tracing every single one of his scars so softly...like she wanted to memorise every single one of them.
She didn't let go. Not once. Not during the whole three hours.
Eira didn’t let go. She didn’t flinch back in disgust or shame or embarrassment…she did nothing. She held onto his hand during the entire performance, gently tracing the scars on his skin, as if she was memorising each and every single one of these markings.
She didn’t flinch back like they were disgusting. Didn’t hesitate. Didn’t…
Azriel didn’t know what to do. Didn’t quite know what to do with the way his head was racing, the way his shadows were practically purring in his mind.
So he didn’t do anything.
He just sat there, silent, still, and let her hold his hand.
He couldn’t recall a single piece that had been played, not a single instrument that the symphony had played, not a single second.
His entire focus had remained on the feeling of her touching his hands, tracing his scars, holding him delicately like he would disappear if she let go.
Even as the last performance ended, the final violin notes echoing off the walls of the great hall and the lights came up again, her hand remained in his, her fingertips gently tracing the same scars that she had been tracing for the past three hours.
He wasn’t sure if she was even aware she was doing it, still tracing his scars as if they were the most beautiful thing she had ever seen as if she couldn’t bring herself to stop. Part of him wanted to shake her out of it, to tell her that his scars were not something that she should be admiring. A far bigger part of him relished the feeling of her stroking his hand, almost as if it was the most delicate, fragile thing she had ever touched.
But then she seemed to realise what she was doing, her fingers pausing in their movement. Her head whipped around and her eyes met his, wide and nearly panicked.
She looked as if she had been caught doing something she shouldn’t have, as if she somehow expected him to be angry at her for holding his hand, for tracing the scars.
He could practically read the words on her lips, could practically see the question on her tongue as she looked at him, her eyes still wide, her hand still holding his tight.
Could practically hear her ask if it was alright that she had touched the scars, if he was alright with her holding his hand for so long, if she had gone too far.
He wrapped his ruined fingers around hers, squeezing just tight enough to move her fingers.
Her fingers were small between his, so tiny and slender, but for once the difference in size didn’t make him feel monstrous.
He felt...he felt as if her fingers had been made to fit into his as if they belonged there. He felt the urge to bring her hands up to his lips, to kiss each and every one of her slender little fingers…
"So, are we gonna get some food?" Cassian said brightly, looking bored out of his mind.  Azriel was quite sure that his brother wanted him to snap his neck. Or maybe they should all just be happy that he hadn’t actually fallen asleep and started snoring halfway through the performance.
Azriel had to fight down a low, rumbling growl at the interruption, shooting a glare at his brother before his eyes snapped back to Eira’s, to the way her slender fingers had tangled with his.
"I could eat," Nesta agreed with her mate, giving him a look.
Which left Azriel to look at Eira, to hold her stare.
"What about you?" he asked quietly, his voice strangely hoarse. "Are you hungry?"
Eira looked at him with those beautiful grey eyes, taking a moment to think.
He couldn’t stop staring at her as she bit her lip in thought, the sight of her teeth worrying the plump skin sending another shudder down his spine.
And then she nodded once, a shy, hesitant move. “Yes, I am hungry,” she admitted quietly.
"Sevinda's?" Cassian suggested immediately.
Azriel had to resist the urge to sigh at Cassian’s enthusiasm.
While he didn’t particularly mind eating at Sevinda’s, he would have rather stayed somewhere more private. But it wasn’t going to happen. So he merely nodded. “Sure,” he said. “Sevinda’s sounds good.”
Another bout of winnowing later...they found themselves at Sevinda's, tucked into one of the tables outside. Eira was still holding his hand. He had checked in with her twice if she wanted to rather sit inside, but she had waved him off. He could feel her uncomfortableness...but it seemed to ease.
Azriel did notice the way she tensed the moment they appeared out of the shadows at Sevinda’s, the way her eyes darted around her as she looked over the restaurant they were now sitting in.
He could see her clenching her jaw, could see the way her hand tightened around his, could see the way the other hand clenched around the fork.
She wasn’t comfortable here, that much he could see.
But it did get a little better as the evening went on.
They ordered. Azriel tried not to notice the way she shifted in her chair, eyes darting around her like she was expecting a battle to break out any moment.
He gently squeezed her hand under the table, pulling her attention away from the people around them.
“Are you alright?” he mumbled to her, low enough that the others wouldn’t hear.
She started at his question, her grey eyes wide as she looked at him, clearly surprised that he could tell that she wasn’t at ease in the restaurant.
“I...I’m fine,” she muttered, her own voice low. “Just expecting...the worst.”
Azriel could see the truth in her eyes, and could practically feel the tension radiating off her.
He gently squeezed her hand again, drawing her attention fully to him. “We’re at Sevinda’s,” he told her quietly. “This is one of the safest places in Velaris. If only because everybody is terrified of what Cassian will do if Sevinda isn't there to feed him," he quipped.
Azriel heard Cassian snort across the table. “Damn right,” he said.
He could see the corners of Eira’s mouth twitch at Cassian’s comment, a slight smile pulling at her lips
It was such a tiny smile, but for Azriel, it felt like the most precious thing in the world.
*****
Eira had never really ventured deep into Velaris.
She had the alteration tailor shop where she took commissions from…and then she sometimes saw a shop that piqued her interest and she went in there…but she had never…never really gone exploring.
Never actually trusted herself to do that, in this strange place. Because as long as she had been High Fae…it was still a strange place for her. Never had been…quite home.
But the Symphony with Azriel? That had been…utterly beautiful. Utterly perfect.
The symphony with Azriel had been something close to magical. She had spent hours with him, holding his hand, tracing the scars, feeling his rough fingers under her own. Her entire focus had been on him during the performance, the only thing on her mind was the feeling of his skin against her own. His scars underneath her fingertips.
It had been a little terrifying, the realisation that she hadn’t looked at a single instrument, hadn’t heard a single melody...only him.
But that was nothing against the...pure rage she felt when he had told her that he couldn't play an instrument. He had stared at her as if he had never had anyone actually...console him for the fact that he had never been able to learn how to play.
How to learn this art that he clearly had a deep affinity for.
She could feel the scars on his hand, the ruined skin underneath her fingers. But she refused to be revolted by it. The scars on his hands were just that…scars. Just part of him. And she wasn’t revolted by him. The thought of being revolted by Azriel...it didn’t even cross her mind.
She traced over the scars on the back of his hand, gently touching the rough skin.
She wanted to be near him desperately. Wanted to be wrapped in his arms, as close as she could possibly be.
And still, she had wondered...if this one thin line on her chest still ached weeks later...how did these hands feel to him? How much pain was he in on a daily basis?
She had seen him writing, the trembling hands… She had seen him clench and unclench his hands as if struggling with the shaking. And that was just the fact that they were shaking. She didn’t even dare to think about the pain he had to feel, how he still managed to use them while fighting….
She knew, instinctively, that the pain in his hands was still there, and had never truly left after he had been… tortured. Because that was what had happened. Regardless of what anybody else thought.  And now the pain in his hands served as a constant reminder of that, how close he had nearly come to being absolutely broken.
She knew that every tremble, every shake, every clenching of his fingers was just a reminder of what had happened.
And she hated it. She hated those scars on his hands, hated that they caused him so much pain.
She wished he had never gone through it.
But then she wished that about so many things.
So Eira did what Eira always did when she needed some peace and quiet: She went to hide in the kitchen.
Not even Elain was there these days. Which was something that…Eira didn’t want to think about it either. She wanted…she didn’t even know where to start with that…still didn’t know how to feel about…any of this.
How she was supposed to feel about her twin sister trying to take away her…daughter. Her daughter.
Trying to take away her mate and her baby.
The more she thought about it…the more angry she became.
Elain was her sister, her twin. But that didn’t change the fact that she had tried to steal her daughter.
Eira clenched her teeth, leaning back on the kitchen counter, arms crossing in front of her chest.
She wasn’t sure how she was ever supposed to forgive Elain for that.
Nyx took that moment to bang the bowl onto the counter where he was sitting. Eira couldn’t help but laugh at her nephew.
Nyx, as sweet and adorable as he was, had a temper. And he wasn’t the most patient child. Eira had learnt that the hard way. But that didn’t mean that she didn’t love him.
“Are you trying to make a mess, you little rascal?” she teased him. “How about we make some cookies?”
"kies! kies! Ra Ra!"
“What, little monster? You want cookies?” Nyx babbled incoherently, grinning wide at her.
Eira chuckled, ruffling his hair affectionately before moving to gather the necessary ingredients. Or she would have if the shadows hadn't been quicker.
“Come on…” she grumbled, watching the shadows creep over the ingredients, gathering everything necessary. She gave a small huff. “I was gonna do that.”
You aren't supposed to do anything strenuous, they said softly.
Eira rolled her eyes at that, the motion just a little fond.
“It’s cookies,” she protested. “That’s hardly ‘strenuous’.”
The shadows just glided around her, gathering all the necessary ingredients on the countertop, just within arm’s reach of her. They seemed to almost be…arguing with her if she interpreted their movements correctly.
“Fine, I won’t pick anything up,” she said with a huff. “You happy, you meddling shadows?”
For their part, the shadows just swirled around her with a low, almost smug-sounding whisper.
Eira grumbled under her breath but couldn’t quite help but smile.
She didn’t mind the shadows. They seemed to always be around her, as if they were…watching out for her, in some way. She had stopped trying to question it a while back.
“Let's go make some cookies," she said with a sigh.
Nyx gave an excited, loud babble, clearly excited at the idea of baking.
Eira chuckled softly. “Alright, alright,” she mumbled. “Maybe if we make them good enough, your parents will give you a treat after.”
And maybe she could steal some for herself as well.
Nyx babbled and giggled.
Eira chuckled and ruffled his hair again before looking at the ingredients the shadows had gathered for her, a smile pulling at her lips.
“I think the first thing we have to make is the dough,” she mumbled quietly to Nyx as she started measuring out the sugar. “Do you wanna help me with the bowl?”
Nyx babbled happily, watching with round, wide eyes as she gathered the ingredients and started mixing them into the bowl.
He seemed a little too excited at the sight of her mixing everything together, little giggles tumbling out of him as the liquid in the bowl churned around.
Eira chuckled when she saw he leaned forward almost as if he wanted to stick his fingers in it.
No," she said, gently pushing his arms back. "Do not stick your fingers in the cookie dough."
Nyx only made a huffy sound, as if he didn't like that she was stopping him.
Eira chuckled. "You'll get to lick the spoon once I'm done," she told him. "If you wait nicely, that’s it.”
Nyx looked at her with wide, round eyes, a little pout on his face. He babbled at her as if trying to convince her to let him dip his fingers in the dough at that very moment. She laughed at the betrayed look on his face when he realised that she wasn't gonna let him eat the dough right away.
Instead, she started humming, Nyx happily clapping along.
She continued humming while she finished mixing the dough, still fighting to keep Nyx from sticking his fingers in the bowl.
The boy was determined, she would give him that. As soon as she was satisfied with the dough, she pulled the bowl away, looking down at him.
"We gotta let it rest for a bit, alright?" she said with a chuckle.
He yawned.
Eira chuckled at that, gently poking his cheek. "Are you getting tired, little rascal?" she teased him. "Did all that baking exhaust you, hm?"
Nyx just yawned again, blinking sleepily.
She chuckled again and shook her head.
"We'll let the dough rest for a bit," she said quietly to him. "And I think a little rascal needs a little nap."
He babbled something in protest as if offended at the very idea of a nap. Eira only laughed and shook her head.
She picked him up, resting him on her hip. "No napping is not an option," she told him in a quiet, mock-stern voice.
Nyx was already looking slightly sleepy, his little head dropping against her shoulder.
Her chest twinged at carrying him, but she didn't try to get up the stairs. Instead, she brought him into the living room downstairs, sitting next to him as she laid him down on one of the couches, curling up next to him.
"Sing, Ra Rar?" he requested softly.
Eira was only too happy to oblige.
She gently settled down on the couch, shifting so she was resting next to him. Nyx curled into her side and she gently wrapped an arm around him, holding him close.
Then she started singing, humming a soft tune under her breath.
Soft, soothing lullabies.
A human lullaby. One that she had used to humm to Feyre when she had just been a child.
The boy's eyes started drooping as she sang, and his breath started to even out. He nuzzled against her as if seeking out the comfort of her embrace.
Eira smiled and shifted a little, wrapping her other arm around him and pulling him closer.
He yawned and curled against her, letting out a little sleepy babble. She chuckled at how he curled against her, like a cat seeking out warmth. Her nephew was more than a little affectionate, a constant need for cuddles and hugs and affection. But he was sweet.
Eira continued singing, holding him close as he started drooping more and more against her, clearly struggling to keep his eyes open.
It didn’t take long for Nyx to fall asleep, his breaths evening out and his body going heavy and pliant against her. And still, she kept singing, her voice quiet.
She wasn’t really focused on the song, on the words…her entire focus was on Nyx, on the fact that her nephew lay in her arms, in her embrace, completely and utterly relaxed.
Safe. Safe and sound and not a single scratch on him. She hadn’t failed to protect him. She hadn’t…Nothing had happened to him.
Eira was so focused on the little boy in her arms that she didn’t even realise that the shadows were gone. She continued singing, gently running one hand over her nephew’s back.
She wasn't sure what it had been that suddenly made her look up...her singing ceased as soon as she realised that Azriel stood in the doorway, watching her.
His gaze was fixed on her and on Nyx, lying in her arms. She wasn’t sure what it was, but there was a look on his face…a look in his eyes. Something soft, something almost…. tender.
She didn’t dare to breathe.
"I am sorry," she apologised softly. "Did I bother your meeting? I'll stop." She hadn’t even known that he was at the River House that day, hadn’t known that Rhys would be busy with meetings. Otherwise, she would have been quieter.
Azriel just shook his head, taking a couple of steps closer until he was hovering next to the couch.
“You aren’t bothering anything,” he said softly, voice rough. “You can keep singing if you’d like.”
Eira’s breath hitched a little as Azriel took a few more steps, moving until he could slide into one of the armchairs.  She swallowed.
“Amren said I should stop my screeching, “ she blurted out suddenly. “I didn’t want to bother you.”
Azriel blinked. Once. then twice.
“You could never bother me,” he said, his voice fierce. “And your singing is anything but a screech.”
Eira felt her breath hitch in her throat, her eyes wide. She could feel that her cheeks were warm, embarrassment coursing through her.
And yet…there was still that look on his face, that softness in his eyes as he looked at her, holding their nephew against her chest.
She swallowed a little before speaking. “…you don’t think it’s terrible? You don’t think I sound like a dying crow?”
He shook his head. “Not at all,” he said softly, voice low enough so that he wouldn’t wake Nyx up.
His gaze was still fixed on her, on the picture they made, on how she was curled around the tiny little boy, still that soft look in his eyes that she couldn’t quite place.
For just one single second Eira allowed herself to think about…the future. Think about that little girl that she had seen. Would she one day sing her own daughter to sleep?
“You want me to keep singing?” she whispered quietly, shifting a little so she was sitting up straighter.
Azriel met her gaze, as he nodded.
He nodded. “Please,” he mumbled, his voice low and hoarse, rough even. “Please, keep singing.”
So she did.

Could you imagine being in a relationship with both Simon and price and having price be there to see Simon become happier. 😭
o h— 🥺
it started with—and john could still remember how he thought that he had just been imagining this after such an exhausting drag of their work—but it started with a song.
a somewhat familiar tune, almost like a nursery rhyme, rumbled through the space. it pierced through his exhausted mind, and john struggled to piece together what was truly happening.
he had lain there, on their cot, in their tent, hearing the notes trickle into the air, spilling like a carefully crafted secret, and john’s mind strained against the cages of his skull to make him recognize what it was. it had been desperately tugging at his synapses, trying to make him focus, and john folded because he was taught that the mind is the master of the body so he tried.
he sat up. and—
the song was coming from simon.
it was reverberating from the base of his throat, so faint it almost felt like a fever dream. like a wisp of a careful wish; a what-could-be.
not a what-it-really-is.
john wondered what he must have looked as he watched simon sing to himself. his love is tucked into himself, bent over as he polished his rifle—standard de-dissociative practice; ground the recruits by making them go through a familiar routine—with his balaclava tugged just over the tip of his nose.
john could see simon’s scars this way; they’re deep trenches, jagged and harsh even when they’d already been healed.
simon refused any cosmetic treatment to have his face fixed, and john had once assumed it was because of pride. he didn’t know it was because of you.
(he still remembers the way the pool of his desires began to spill over, angry and biting like a tsunami. john called his own love a calamity; saw itself a devastation to simon who had been so loyal and beautiful and precious.
you had been the one to pull them close; the one to tell them that john’s love is not a metaphor. that it just is.
“is this not enough?” you asked. “is our love not worth fighting for?”
our love.
oh, how precious it is to be loved at all.)
john remembered tracing those very own scars; mapping them with a callused thumb or with his chapped lips, because simon is beautiful. always had been.
and as he watched now, with simon’s mask tugged up like that, john could see simon’s lips moving. singing.
it had the back of his eyes prickling, and his nose flaring. his own mouth wobbled, overwhelmed by the coalescing feeling of happiness and longing, but john didn’t move. he didn’t pry.
he let simon unfurl on his own; let his beloved find his peace, one whispered song at a time.
and, perhaps selfishly, he let simon sing him to a quiet sleep.
