i like niwakuni in the way that it was unrequited and scara had no idea what he was feeling. sort of like a kid’s crush on their babysitter.

Genshin angst headcanons
scaramouche lyney kaeya ga ming
my bad if I accidentally mischaracterized them
Scara:
He used to love hanging out with people. (Just like niwa) to make him feel like he has a heart. To try to get him to be human even if deep down he knows it will never happen. Whenever he is alone, he feels dead and empty.
he spaces out a lot, while walking, doing his homework and other shits. But when he does it’s because he wonders what would have happened if his mother loved him. He wonders if he would still be a monster
he’s the type to laugh the pain away, but when he does he’s still crying a lot (this is based on one of the lines he says)
He wonders if it’s really worth it. Like with relationships if it’s worth continuing. Deep down he’s still scared of being betrayed and abandoned again
lyney
He physically cannot cry around others. Even if he wanted to, he physically cannot. He has a hard time accepting himself and is always wondering if people would actually like him.
I bet he tried opening up before, he really did. But then people laughed it off, thinking it was a joke and taking it for a mere piece of entertainment.
i bet after arguing with freminet about his mask, he spent hours telling lynette how much he felt bad. He wanted to apologize but didn’t know how.
he cares for everyone, even if he has his own problems. He comforts people when they are down but…he always wonders, who will comfort him when he is down?
if people were to criticize him then laugh, he’d laugh along. Like “oh the magic trick u did earlier was so bad!! Haha!!” And hee laugh along. He is used to this type of criticism but once everything piles up, he actually gets hurt.
Kaeya
Whenever he’s drunk, he drunk mumbles. Except he’s whispering too soft for anyone to hear.
he loves to drink because not only does it help him forget (he actually doesn’t forget) he likes the feeling of warmth. He missed the warmth of “home”
this man hates looking at himself without his eyepatch. He thinks that if he never interfered with diluc, diluc would have been happier. He thinks that it’s all his fault.
ga ming
When his dad sold all his dancing stuff, he cried and cried. Talking to the moon thinking it’s his mother. “Mom…what do I do? Why..dad took away the one thing I loved and the archons took you away from me too…what more will they take?” Typa stuff
he’s very uncomfy whenever people try to persuade him to go back home. He dislikes thinking about it and when he does, he keeps his mind busy. This kid barely ever has breaks because his mind is busy avoiding problems.
he can’t be sad, not because he’s scared but because he knows his mother wouldn’t want him to be. But he knows one day he will spill and everything will come out. Hes very scared for that day.

genshin 3.3 scara spoilers bc im crazy and literally CANT get my mind off of ghis shit
disclaimer i havent played through the patch but i HAVE read up on what i need to know and i probably wont be playing it for a while. im really pissed off. i don’t think this patch was given the respect and care it deserved.
my problem is literally this: things don’t add up. and not just in an annoying ‘something is off’ kind of way. no. in a blatantly misleading way, like the rug is being pulled from under my feet and i’m expected to stand there and let myself hit the ground. facts don’t line up. the timeline of events isn’t consistent. the characters involved and their motives don’t make sense in context.
before i keep going, i want to say this. i’m obviously giving the devs and writers their due credit. these jobs arent easy and, especially in a story with as many characters and moving parts as genshin, inconsistencies here and there are inevitable.
that’s NOT the issue here.
as u go back and read what we had on scara’s past before 3.3, ull start to see how confusing and contradictory the 3.3 version of events is from what existed in the aged notes on tatarasuna and the ‘husk of opulent dreams’ artifact set descriptions. note that this information on scara’s life, as well as scara’s overall design and personality, has been in development since the game began. his first appearance was during the unreconciled stars event. thats version 1.1. 3.3 feels like it’s telling a completely different story, some wacky dream version of what we first read about, and it’s… it’s bad. to the point where i was stunned by the amount of detail and clarity lost. i puzzled over why hoyo would make it harder for themselves like this. because that’s what this does- they had a timeline already. it fit into the overarching plot just fine. the added and altered details, like niwa, like dottore’s inexplicable presence literally everywhere, don’t contribute depth to the existing story. they don’t give us clarity. at all.
for example: the katsuragi/niwa being two separate people situation. it can be funny, sure, but yall. niwa was not in the notes. he didn’t exist before the irodori festival. and if the notes were a witness’ (kinjirou’s) record of what happened within the tatarasuna group during that time, why wasn’t their freaking superior and kunikuzushi’s closest friend mentioned in any of them, while a supposed nobody like katsuragi was? according to 3.3, niwa was one of the sources of scara’s betrayals… but the old notes heavily imply that the trigger was the murder of katsuragi. why was katsuragi’s conflict with nagamasa cheapened like this? literally what was the reason, aside from finding some way to drag dottore into it?
tbh i personally believe that there’s a chance katsuragi was always meant to be the trigger/kunikuzushi’s closest person/the one behind the unique brown-haired npc character. katsuragi was too involved in kunikuzushi’s life and the incident at the furnace to be just some guy, while niwa… barely makes an appearance before 3.3. i wonder what the reason was for bringing niwa so high up in importance. just because he’s a kaedehara? (honestly i’d assumed katsuragi was the kaedehara) btw, if scara wanted revenge for niwa ‘leaving’… why did he ultimately spare the isshin art along with amenoma? why did he even wipe out the other sword arts, like- if we take these events to be the truth, what purpose did that serve him? am i missing something here?
‘he was erased from everyone’s memory’ reads to me like a cheap excuse to get away with being inconsistent. “oh the timeline is just fucky” no. time and memories can be really interesting themes to explore… but not when they’re misused at the expense of the characters involved.
i know a lot of people came out of 3.3 enjoying it. and that’s fine. i’m not coming at yall.
through my understanding, tho, it’s obvious that this is not what was originally intended for scaramouche. it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. he was (is) a beautiful character… he deserved attention and care. he deserved his story faithfully told.
did the individual(s) who initially created and helped develop scaramouche leave the company? did the new writers hired for sumeru not have enough information? did they decide to just say fuck it and do their own thing? did they dislike what was established for scara before? was it management meddling with the creative process? was it crunch and an impossible deadline? was it some lazy way of tying up loose threads for the next act? was it spite? is there more to it? i think it must be a mix of multiple things.
doesn’t matter now. all i know is i don’t care for whatever it is. it’s already been difficult to find the energy to play through the story given how depressing sumeru was for me in general, and this definitely didn’t help. i’m going to be here blissfully creating my own content following the original sources and ignoring this patch ❤️
anyway who will even read thjs far thanks if u did i guess

Some thoughts of the quest ;
if you thought scaramouche should’ve stayed as a harbinger and have no development, and think the character has been ‘destroyed’ because of his development and the writing in the quest, idk what to tell you it just kind of feels like you don’t get him at all.
Wouldn’t you want to erase your evil doings from a mistake you made, if you could? Mf has been manipulated and abused all because of the harbingers. Of course he wanted to erase his past and his connection to them, he had absolutely nothing to lose, and certainly nothing to gain.
And the ‘nice’ scara, I actually think that was a part of him he thought was long dead. I think that was who we know to be as Kunikuzushi. That was who he was before his betrayals. He’s literally always been described as innocent, sweet and kind before he turned into a villain. How anyone calls this ‘destroying’ his character is ridiculous, when it’s always been apart of him.
He returns to himself afterwards too, albeit a little less harsh because really, he has no problems with us. He never has. As a harbinger, it was simply just his job to antagonise us because we’re the ‘good guys’. But personally? He’s never held a grudge because we’ve never done anything to harm him specifically, apart from our fight with him as a ‘god.’ So yeah, it’s kind of obvious that he wasn’t going to be as ‘mean’ as he usually is, why would he when we both protected and helped him?
And even he himself sees relationships as transactions - ‘you do something for me, I’ll do something for you.’ Because it’s all he’s known. Even Niwa, despite being the kindest to him, got him to work as a weapon maker, it was still a transaction of sorts. The little boy promised to be his family, and scara repaid by keeping the same promise, they both did something for each other - a transaction. He feels indebted to us because of his view on human relationships. He needs to be useful so he has worth, and he’s always been that way.
So saying it destroyed his character is, sorry to be blunt, fucking mindless and wrong. You don’t have to like the choices they made in the story, but thinking this was a character assassination of some sort because of the way things played out is beyond stupid.
Twitter is just genuinely full of people who are brainless and only simp for ‘evil’ characters because they’re hot or degrading, but fail to see anything other than their perceived view of a character.
Again - You don’t have to agree with how the story played out, I have my problems with it too, but it just makes me roll my eyes hearing all this complaining when this is, at worst, a ‘mid’ quest, and not the shitshow we got for inazumas ending.
Now, as for people worrying about the consequences of this - dw, I’m in the same point. I don’t know how this is going to play out and my thoughts are so mixed about Kazuha not remembering what happened at the festival because the history changed. Or maybe he remembers it, just without scara? I’m not sure honestly.
But one more thing - this didn’t destroy Kazuha’s development from the festival. Think about it. Kazuha forgives Sara for killing his friend, forgives raiden for all that’s happened, and accepts the past. He’s always been this way. He’s not one to hold a grudge, and he wants to move on from his past. Even if he still remembered scara, I don’t think it’d change much. Him forgetting scara and just remembering the events but slightly differently really doesn’t change his development- because that development happened way before that festival.
I think I’m done, I’m tired and very sick (and honestly I should stay off twitter bc why was I expecting anything positive from that cesspool of an app) so Goodnight
And remember, you’re completely within your right to disagree, doesn’t make your opinion any less valid than mine. I just think it’s really dumb to disregard facts when making claims like it destroyed scara’s character. That’s all;;;
