I have this sick idea in my head that Jimmy and Curly have brought up the hypothetical situation about a mutiny and if they’d have the heart to shoot each other.
And I believe that Curly would say he’d never use the gun and if he absolutely had to he’d turn it on himself because, obviously, if even Jimmy is against him, he must’ve fucked up royally. It’s sweet and he’s raw with it, talking about how much he values being a good Captain and what it/Jimmy mean to him and how the gun is never something he considers, hence why he doesn’t even know the code (likely required if the code scanner is tampered with but he’d make the risky choice) and it leaves Jimmy a bit speechless. He wouldn’t answer for himself until Curly asks, teasing like he’s expecting something equally as sappy and sentimental but Jimmy just says he would.
Right between the eyes. No hesitation. Quick and easy to get it over with. He’s having fun with it, it’s crass and cold and he doesn’t even realize Curly didn’t even let out his usual awkward laugh when Jimmy talks like that. No placating smile, just a sort of dejected and surprised look. The formations of an epiphany. And Jimmy can see how off put Curly is and the hurt and he says he’s just joking. The cockpit is quite after that but Jimmy doesn’t care and things go by as usual despite it. Curly’s talking to him the next time they meet and all is well. He forgets about it.
But I think it sticks with Curly for a long time and he tries hard to brush it off as just another off kilter thing Jimmy would say. That in the moment, Jimmy wouldn’t or he’d try not to or he’d at the very least hesitate. He’d settle for just apologizing before pulling the trigger.
But in the back of his mind he knows theirs a subtle truth to those words.
#and the thing about not knowing the code is still a detriment and flaw in curly cause he won’t even take action#to ensure his own safety as captain since he’s too convincing of peoples inherent good nature and not noticing outside factors#but I feel like in this hypothetical Jimmy likes that Curly said all that and it feeds into how he knows he can get into Curly’s head#even if it’s subconscious Jimmy knows that Curly cares for him in a way he’s above a lot of things people don’t normally tolerate and he#would backpedal here because he sees how hurt Curly is and doesn’t want to sow that doubt about him in Curly’s mind but it’s too late#like Curly doesn’t trust the code scanner to be left alone and while that’s just for safety you’d think if he gives all that leeway to Jimmy#he’d share it but he doesn’t cause he knows deep down due to moments like this Jimmy isn’t safe a like a person and he’s not exempt in#certain ways and he likely feels bad cause it’s just paranoia right#jimmy mouthwashing#captain curly#curly mouthwashing#mouthwashing#mouthwashing game

"Just scan this QR code-" I CAN'T. I literally CAN'T. Just give me the fucking link!
#i have many annoyances and gripes with everything being QR codes#because you can't make assessments based on the url#making it very easy to trick someone into downloading viruses and shit#but also my phone physically can't scan them#it doesn't have that feature on the camera app#and I'm not fucking downloading a QR scanner that I'll almost never use#I got this QR code in an email too#it is so much easier to just send me the link please#a link is one click a QR code involves me getting my phone

uhhh, cool find but idk maybe you should leave the supercomputer alone? like it was hidden right, what if its a secret government weapons project or something? it could be dangerous to mess with it
I honestly had my suspicions of that too...until I realized that there were no security systems! In fact, it was all easily accessible, straight out of the box. Like, look at this thing:
The interface alone is insane. A giant computer interface with a giant keyboard (that sadly does not have space for a mouse but I digress) and this REALLY comfy chair! Yet there are no armed guards, no security cameras, no nothing.
Honestly, I'm really tempted to turn it on, because holy cow, this thing must be extra powerful. I'm thinking like, maybe 2x or 3x the power of Frontier (which, if you don't know, has a processor calculation of 1.206 exaFLOPs, making it the world's fastest supercomputer).
I don't, something about this just seems very tempting to me.
#einstein talks#the abandoned factory#banter ask#i'm sorry the photos post is taking so long#i'm still trying to find good angles for those weird sci-fi coffins I found as well#because I genuinely think they might be full-body scanners or smth#//#code lyoko#we're in the thick of it gentlemen#btw most of jeremie's 'photos' of the supercomputer will come from background images I have taken from Code Lyoko.fr#shout out to that website for a moment

[ID: two pieces of official art featuring hak from “yona of the dawn”. in the first, he’s lying on his stomach on top of cream-colored sheets, resting his head atop folded arms; he’s shirtless while the lower half of his body is covered by what is most likely a light gray robe. in the second image, he’s smiling and holding a teacup up to his mouth; he’s dressed in dark blue wide-sleeved robes with a gray ivy pattern on the sleeves. there are red sparkles and a border comprising of dashes and dots around him. end ID.]
hak art from hana to yume issue 17 !!

do you have a watercolor brand rec? 👀
i'm actually a really big proponent of using whatever's convenient for you, fr. brands vary in price depending on where you're buying them/where you live, what's available, etc. sure there are definitely differences between them, but especially when you're using professional materials it's actually more rare to pick something bad than to stumble on something serviceable.
(whoops this one got long too. under the cut it goes.)
some brands do, admittedly, do certain things better than others. sennelier (a french brand) is known to go down kind of pale/less saturated on the first wash, but they build really really well in glazes and have a luminosity to them that gives paintings a really interesting depth.
daniel smith (an american brand) has one of the largest collections of colors available i've ever seen and their earth tones are gorgeous and really unique.
QOR (not sure where they're based?) has WILDLY saturated colors that bloom so much it kind of looks like fireworks, same with roman szmal.
holbein (a japanese brand) doesn't move much in water at all and thus offers a lot of control to the user instead at the cost of more abstract or dynamic movement in water.
schmincke horadam (a german brand) was hailed as the holy grail of watercolors for a while for their fine pigments and wild dispersal, but that's kind of chilled out these days since so many new players became beloved staples, and some people aren't fans of wild blooming to begin with. in a similar vein, winsor and newton (english brand) has a very extensive history and honestly works as a super "traditional" pick with few surprises but a solid foundation—and none of that is considering the wild variations in properties between student grade paints or the many types of handmade ones that hit the market lol. some brands make great pro but weak student lines, and vice versa.
buuuuuut.
all of that is pedantic when you're starting out, and honestly if you're asking this you're probably looking to get into watercolor. at beginning or intermediate stages where you haven't gone down the fixation rabbithole, all of tha information is more likely to confuse you than help, especially if you don't know what you like or dislike about watercolor yet.
at beginning stages whatever established pro or student brand is available to you is probably good enough to build fundamental knowledge on.
my actual, legit advice is to pick a few colors you like, then if another brand has what you want get it from them. get a small set if that helps and just build with whatever you find lacking, whatever you aren't using can be replaced with something that appeals to you more. there's no need to stick to one specific brand name just because. just don't pick the super chalky ones that come in those huge art packs with the round pans, and you should be fine (and even then, i've seen some people do great art with those! i just don't like when it comes off like dust on my fingers lol.) general rule of thumb i follow is that if they have accurate pigment and lightfastness information, you're going to be fine.
art isn't really all that exclusionary when you do it for fun, it's just an environment where people started making stuff for smaller and more specific audiences to cater to preferences lol. hell, paint with coffee if you want to. life's short and painting is fun, might as well enjoy it for a while.
oh, but do use good paper. blah blah, you've probably heard it before, and trust me we're all just as horrified as you that watercolor paper is so goddamn expensive. but you could literally have The Nicest Paints In The World and they'd look terrible on bad paper that won't let you use the techniques people try to teach you. if you have to pick between good paper and mediocre paints vs bad paper and excellent paints, pick the paper. trust me.
#ney's art tips (art questions)#ney's chatter (ask answers)#wow this got long too#can't believe i'm talking about traditional art so much lately when basically all i post on here is digital#mainly bc trying to take a picture of traditional art without a scanner is a HELLHOLE#orz#genuinely i'm not even all that GOOD at watercolor#i'm just a massive nerd (and i mean RIDICULOUS) when it comes to everything that makes them/how they work/the super small details of brands#literally to the point where i memorized pigment code charts. where i know the differences in binders.#the difference between honey-based paints and those without it#not even a bee joke fr#my first watercolor set was...#eh. story for another time i think lol this is already too long

honestly one thing I didn't expect from my little library job is how much I enjoy interacting with children? like I don't have long conversations with them or anything but for example there's a. 3-5 year old (I'm terrible at guessing ages) who always asks if he can scan the books himself and I always let him because it's so fun & it makes him so happy
#I open the books to where the code is & he has the scanner and scans it#and it makes him soooo happy when the scanner goes 'beep!'#honestly? I'd let him do that all the time if he wants to stay and help out all day? He's hired.#doddie redet

I like to think in the P.E au that Anya and Curly specifically get haunted hard by Jimmy's weird reality crossing guilt manifested.
It's targeting them because Jimmy's guilt grows more around them. The idea of him acting and playing nice despite what he did. It's like a buffet that allows it to pick from their plates.
Anya sees this stagnant version of her, blood from her mouth, clutching her stomach with a bottle of pills in her other hand. She's talking about not being heard, a pixel, relief from a burden. She tries to ask a question and it's never the right one. She's not understanding but in a way, she's getting that this version of her is in pain. She tries to help, extends a hand and asks how she can help, stop it. She stares and there's utter despair and disappointment in her eyes.
What did you do?
Curly sees this burnt mangled thing. But he can't call it that. Even with no skin and chipping teeth, covered in sullied bandages and smelling of death overdue, he can see his face. He can recognized that eye, he stares at it a lot in the mirror, usually a second one is attached but he digresses. They are just watching, staring and unmoving. He asks himself what happened, how can he help and his own retched mangled voice comes out from a empty maw.
I told you.
They have no idea what it really means. They don't know who to tell. Flashes of a life they don't know or maybe a future they haven't lived yet. Perhaps they treat it as their own minds trying to tell them something. They bare that burden themselves and that alone makes it heavier. Plumper. More appetizing to the guilt causing it.
Tragically that guilt is not their own.
#refining the au and the crew cant see the entity always but pretty much its always felt sort of like a mind over matter debacle#it is like the code scanner sections where only jimmy sees it but it can kinda interact with things to an extent like a force of negative#energy jimmy cant just outright tell them cause theyll just think he's insane but he can't ignore it cause he can't ignore the guilt anymor#anya and curly are its biggest targets as it is relatively easy for him to rectify the issues with Swansea and Daisuke vs the internalized#problems he has with Anya and Curly and its sort of about him no longer becoming that person he was in that future cause its the same#timeline but like divergence he was sent back with something awful and the story is less about forgiveness and more about repenting#hes still weird and an asshole he is being tormented but no one else gets seriously hurt so bittersweet#its like a fix-it but like imagine getting put into a perfect world with all the knowledge of ur fuck ups and now being haunted by the#guilt you will do the same shit again because you already have and having to prove you arent that person but then you also prove you didnt#ever have to be that person so you damn yourself even more like this doesn't end happy for Jimmy like ill tell you that but he'll actually#learn something so yeah thats somethting but everyone is still a little worse after this but can move on happily#the demons are tormenting each other by blaming them for Jimmy's actions invertedly cause while its not her fault anya in the reg timeline#def wondered if she stayed silent if this all wouldve happened even though it really isnt her fault and Curly knew deep down how bad Jimmy#was how bad he was to him and he likely told himself Jimmy would be the end of him and a lot of other but was so beaten down he couldnt go#mouthwashing#mouthwashing game#curly mouthwashing#captain curly#anya mouthwashing#nurse anya#jimmy mouthwashing#pe au#thinking of calling it pestilent equine au? that sound good? we like P.E is just the short funny name for it?

This programming class is really opening my mind. Computers can really be cute when you think about it.
#I just got to scanners and they’re teaching us about it with a simple program that asks your name and then repeats it to you#and for some reason that’s oddly touching for me#this code is childlike
