isn’t it crazy how real our f/o(s) becomes to us? they become our support system, perhaps if only just a voice in the back of our minds we call theirs, always there if we need them. no matter where we might be, or what might be happening, they’re a piece of us.

i just love that we create this beautiful thing, a relationship that maybe no one else knows, a world we call our own with them. i think it shows a great amount of imagination and creativity.

but above all, it shows our willingness to let ourselves be loved on some scale. even if we can’t allow that love from any other source.

Holy shit I just realized something. If there was an emergency where the crew needed to go in a cryopod and there are only 4 pods, Curly was meant to be the sacrifice. Because “a captain should go down with his ship”.

Curly would be expected to sacrifice himself so that everyone else can live.

I can’t imagine Curly allowing someone else to be the sacrifice. He wouldn’t want the crew fighting over who gets to live. If Curly didn’t care about his crew, he wouldn’t have went inside the cockpit to save everyone after Jimmy re-directed the Tulpar towards an asteroid. He wouldn’t have gotten so hysterical after realizing that he didn’t act fast enough( which I believe that he didn’t because he dissociated due to stress). He obviously cares about everyone, which makes it tragic that he was forced to witness everybody suffer and die and the crew stopped treating him like a person but more like a disabled nuisance( which is also Jimmy’s fault because he convinced them that Curly attempted to kill them).

Which sucks because we find out that Curly regretted working for Pony Express since the job affect his health and he wasn’t happy with his job. And he never planned on working for the company for that long( How Fish is Made).

For my humanities class, I chose to make a short animation. Here are the main-full color stills used in it. The dynamic between Curly and Jimmy has always fascinated me, as it plays such a vastly important role in the story and how the events play out.
