OH MY GOD, A LOT TO UNPACK HERE

first, is the aryan migration theory true? NO, ofc not. because theres no such thing as an aryan invasion theory. the only time ive even seen referring to it are people trying to debunk it.

second, yes there was an aryan migration from central asia into the indus valley.

see, invasion implies that there was a military incursion of one nation state into another nation state. but this is not true WE ARE NOT PERPATRATORS OF GENOCIDE, because as we know the indus valley was just a bunch of independent cities and villages peppered across the floodplains, and the "aryans" were nomadic pastoralists who travelled in search of better grazing grounds. some aryans came in the indus valley, saw the lush plains, decided to stay and start agriculture and formed the rigvedic community. there was no explicit attack on the IVC (there wasnt any country to attack at all or an army to defeat), around the same time due to a multitude of reasons including but not limited to change in river flow, the cities of the IVC collapsed under their own weight and people reverted back to rural agrarian lifestyle (they didnt die, or werent killed by hindus)

[ i am going to stop using the word aryan from here on, cuz its very fluid term, used by all indo-europeans to refer to themselves, the hindus use it, so do the persians, and the greeks, the german used it for those weird 12 years as well, i will either use eastern indo-european (EIE) or proto rigvedic people to refer to the original nomads]

now, full disclosure i dont know about any "excavation" done by india express, or if they even have the authority to draw conclusions and publish them as facts about it anyway. but i will present my own knowledge about how the things played out.

i hope you both welcome (and consider) my dissenting voice.

1- argument from language: why do we speak indo-european languages? sanskrit is very closely related to proto-italic, archaic greek, avestan, proto-slavic etc. whereas the other indian languages like the dravidian or austro-asiatic family are not related at all, yes there are superficial similarities due to the last three thousand years of co-evolution but when you dig deep in the etymologies sanskrit is much closer to greek, latin etc not the native indian languages.

2- genetic makeup: the r1 gene that @savlon-bhoi mentioned is not common between JUST indians and persians but the rest of europeans as well, all the indo-europeans people.

and here me out now, it sounds kinda non-sensical but please bear with me. if us north-indian "aryans" had evolved in these torrid plains then we wouldnt get darker in the sun! because our skin would have naturally been dark enough to face the sun, it clearly shows that our skin reacting badly to the sun is because it didnt evolve in a place where there was so much heat and sunlight, and there hasnt been enough time for evolution to change our tones permanently.

3- culture: wait what? i hear you say, wtf. but then again, dig a bit deeper please. all the indoeuropean religions have certain common plot devices in their mythologies. (IE religions include hinduism, iranic paganism, hellenism from greece, slavic paganism, baltic paganism, norse paganism, celtic paganism among others)

every one of those religions has a story where the god of sky and rain (who is almost always the king of the gods as well) fights a large snake-ish demon and brings peace to the chaos. example: indra fights vritrasur to liberate the cows and the seven rivers. zeus kills typhon and retakes the throne, thor slays jormungandr and ragnarok ends etc.

another common trope is having "divine twins" two twins gods/ demigods who are very good horsemen and protect travellers and soldiers, they have a collective name and their individual names (if exist at all) dont matter much. hindus have ashwins , baltic pagans had eoswinoi, greco-romans had dioskuroi.

there was a primordial nothingness, an undefinable state from which two beings arose in pair, balancing each other and creating the world, hindus have dyaus and prithvi coming from nirgun brahm (not brahmadev), greeks had khaos bringing forth gaia and ouranos and norse have niflheim and muspelheim coming from ginungagapp (the last part may not be totally accurate as i dont have the best memory)

and the sanctity of cows, (no im not kidding, they respected cows as well, but they also ate cows) apollo was gonna murder hermes over some cows the day the little guy was born

no other religions matches to this extent with the indo-european religions.

now here the thing, anon, first off getting an identity crisis isnt a reason to hate something. and secondly YOU DONT NEED TO

the rigved was written in the indus valley, hinduism did start in india WE ARE INDIANS, no doubt about that, the source you looked at seems to be biased if they deliberately implied anything else.

again, THEY WERE NO RACIST, GENOCIDAL ARYANS COMING IN IN HOARDS AND KILLING OFF THE GREAT AND PEACEFUL CIVILISATION (yeah, ik some people imply this and im just as mad at them as you are)

secondly the IE homeland is not clear yet, we dont exactly know where the nomadic society of the PIE started (cons of being nomads and living "out of the wagon") but most people accept that it was in the pontic caspians steppes, in modern day ukrain and south eastern russia. later they also discovered the remains of a nomadic society (wagons, horses, cows, graves etc found, but no buildings at all) named the yamanya civilisation, tho if these people are 100% the PIE people is not clear. genetic tests may shed some light but that hasnt been dine yet last time i checked. this PIE culture should be atleast from around 3000BC because they were already very dversified and spread out by 2000BC, and yes it existed in the stone age.

also saying that rigvedic people were not "indian" so hinduism is not an "indian" religion is just non-sensical, because its the vedic tradition and society that DEFINES INDIA , indian histroy starts at 3500BC for a reason, a nation is not just a piece of land, its much more than that. so please dont feel bad or in crisis.

now the question of what happened to the IVC people is a interesting, because yes there is evidence of eastward migration (they werent "chased away" though) but most people just stayed where they were, the cities died not the people. they just became farmers again. and so now (well not now now but like then now) we have rigvedic people who recently gave up their nomadic lifestyle to settle down with agriculture, and IVC people who were doing that since the beginning. and it is from this fusion of cultures that we get the post-rigvedic "modern" hinduism we know and love.

my proof for this cultural mixture? well once again "back to the vedas" rigved, which is the oldest hindu document (written around 1600BC) has an entirely different pantheon with different gods holding different domains however the other vedas written much later (1200-900BC) tell a different tale with the familiar shiv parvati, vishnu lakshmi etc. so its clear, if looked at from an unbiased perspective, that the fusion of both cultures created this beautiful, vibrant and diverse religion that we know today.

fun fact: rigved doesnt have shiv, parvati, brahmadev, lakshmi, ganesh etc, and in rigved nirgun brahm gives rise to dyaus (sky) and prithvi, no concept of trinity in sight

tl;dr: there was no invasion, yes there was a migration, no that didnt cause the IVC collapse, yes we (north indians) are indo-europeans, no that doesnt make us foreigners, no we shouldnt go back to our own country, yes hinduism started in india, yes the hindu scriptures were written in the indus-ganga plains, no this theory is not just based on "zilch", no need to have an existantial crisis, please trust valid sources.

and another thing, this theory is not just propagated by liberals, but is accepted by almost all indo-european countries, so its not just said to divide hinduism, as there are way mose easier ways of dividing hindus than many countries misrepresenting their own history.

Do you think the Aryan Invasion Theory is true? I watching Mahabharata (star plus) and they kept using Aryavarta which reminded me of the Aryan race that Hilter used and so I did a little research and obviously he had no idea what he was talking about but what I found on the theory was a bit unsettling. I always believed that Hinduism/Sanskrit/Vedas originated in India (Indus Valley) but this theory seems to have genetic research to support it and it set off my whole belief system and gave me an identity crisis for some reason

Well, I am not really big on this theory because it has zilch proof to it as far as I have seen, only theories.

A simplified take on the same is the Indian Express article on Rakhigarhi excavation.

Other than that, there was this lengthy India Today article on the same excavation that gave me a headache because it won’t go to the fucking point, but I suppose it is in favour of the theory? I don’t know man, it’s fucking long and I did not read it all, just understood that IVC people from 4500 were native and that apparently we have outsider DNA.

There is no proof of any migration other than those based on change in genetic make up, a more plausible theory of which I explain later.

The interesting thing is, that the said Aryan invasion Theory first pinned us to be central asians from 1500BC and now we are Iranian farmers. It completely ignores the fact that Indians have little genes in common with Europeans who we supposedly come from moreso with South Indians (and I mean much more, we have almost the same gene combination except a few), and seems as if the India today article, based on the same premise of “Aryans had this one gene (r1 to be more specific) common with Iranians that Indus people did not have” fails to realise that people from the northwest of Indian subcontinent can have common genes with the bordering land for other reasons aswell because no shit sherlock, people fuck💀

I mean, how else do you explain the much higher genetic connection to south indians?

Another factor they use for the theory is the simultaneous developement of modern day Hinduism and Zorastrianism, but that too can be chalked upto influence rather than migration, given that Hinduism is actually older by a little margin (oldest living religion) and for the theory to be true, the migration should have gone westward instead.

Heck, the influence thing can easily exclude the theory altogther, because Iran is close to what are now the areas of IVC, and them slowly influencing the culture during or after IVC when they became more civil, (in 4000BC) or us doing the same, or even intermixing of the two will make more sense than AIT.

The migration of these Aryans cannot be proven otherwise aswell because there lies no proof for same. Literally none. The archeologist in the India today article and few others uphold it yet are unable to prove it beyond circumstantial evidence that makes more sense when turned against the theory rather than its favour, like the Iranian thing I mentioned. It might also very well be a migration to eastwards in Hind from the western part, because the Vedas were written before the supposed “Vedic Aryan invaders” happened and they are clearly neither Monotheistic nor Tribal, and align more with the Indic religions, so I digress they came from Central Asia or Iran.

Plus, the Vedas were written by the "aryans" on banks of saraswati, and the saraswati dried up centuries before they "destroyed IVC and took over". Another interesting thing is that Saraswati flew through the IVC sooooo.... yeah, maybe it all can be summed up to people fucking🫠

The thing is, we are locals, this culture was very much developed here on this land. Vedas, Sanskrit, Sanatan, there is a reason you do not see traces of them elsewhere, and I am certain this theory is BS because of the little I have read, because it has nothing to prove for itself.

But other than that, this particular subject was never of my interest because of how lengthy it was, and I fucking sucked at history, so may I suggest asking others who do think of this topic as often. I only know @tiananmen-square-orgy to be my nerdy mutual on this topic, and if finnie cannot help you I'll try geting you connected to a friend who is not on tumblr yet can help becuase of his extensive knowledge.

Savlonic theory

Hello, it's me, ya toad. I know, I've never actually shown interest in Savlonic on this blog, but this is one of my favourite bands, I just tend to forget about them every two months and then discover them one more month later. And I've just been reminded, that it's not that much left before we get Black Plastic (March, if I'm correct). So I've decided to remind myself the lyrics and stuff and oh boi it caused some thinking. Say hello to this long theory, nobody asked for. (Under the cut)

(before I actually start, note, that: I couldn't find some lyrics and I may not have all the information (from streams and maybe some patrons-only stuff, because as I don't earn money for now, I'm not a one), I'm doing this one for fun, it's not any type of shocking analysis)

So, chronologically, let's start with Red. I'll let myself skip Electro Gypsy and Tiny Japanese Girl, as they are pretty random (or so deep, that I don't get the metaphor). In this album, we basically see Rosco and Eve getting together. There are struggles on a way (Wandering Eye may be about jealousy (though it is a little bit of a stretch), Android sounds like a call “I'm not ok, I have my issues”, Spelunker seems to me like a serious talk about these issues). The Driver seems, like they finally managed to figure it out (more less). And then, there is Computer Guy. Key one in my theory.

So as we all know, in Computer Guy, there is a man from a future (Computer Guy), who fights with the trio, tries to get in between of Rosco and Eve. He also says to Eve, that she will eventually fall in love with him and of course, she assures Rosco, that she feels nothing for CG. And boom, at the end the music video, there is a plot twist. Computer Guy is elderly Rosco from the future. Remember this one.

Then we have Neon. Struggles start again. They are broken, everything falls apart (Broken) maybe it even gets physical? (Grinder, though this is again, a stretch). As we see at the end of the Broken, it results in Kandi leaving.

Now, we're not sure about chronology, right? Maybe Kandi is away till the end of Neon's 'action'? As she is alone, she is thinking. I mostly mean Hi-Lights. It maybe a stretch once more, but while reading the lyrics for the first time in a year (or more), my first thought was 'Wow, she has realized, that she has feelings for one of them'. Something tells me, that Eve is more possible as an object of this affection, because Kandi totally has gay energy and the term 'beautiful' (phrase 'beautiful faces') is used for women more than for men (at least, that's what I've observed, as non-native speaker of English). Other things she may have realized are, in my opinion: that the situation between Rosco and Eve really upsets her, that she has her own problems and she is broken herself or the feelings theory, but with Rosco. Something tells me, she was high, though idk for sure. I'm not sure, which of the girls sings Wires (tbh, I'm not sure, how to interpret this one) and Release, but they suit both Kandi and Eve in this theory.

Meanwhile, Eve and Rosco stayed wherever they were before and are still conflicted, both in their relation and in their minds (Epoch on Rosco's side, Wires, Release and Sweet (EP) on Eve's). Then they try again, decide to start from the beginning (All Smiles), get Kandi back, etc. And that will be a 'plot' behind Black Plastic.

That's an optimistic one, they may also decide to just end it all and let one another to live their own life, away from the rest.

But as I said before, Computer Guy is important in this one. What if, during the plot of Black Plastic, something goes wrong and something very, very bad happens to Eve (like death)? Or maybe actually Grinder happens here? As their situation was still shaky, Rosco probably blames himself and does everything to prevent it, working on time machine, becoming a Computer Guy and trying to get in between of him and Eve back in Red era, because he thinks, that if she wasn't with him, nothing would have happened.  

Where is Kandi in all this? Well, I'm not sure. Maybe they didn't get her back, before whatever has happened, happened? Maybe (her being high part) something destroyed her before they managed to do that? Maybe, when Rosco went crazy about whatever has happened to Eve, their friendship just fell apart? Or least probable, she is one of Computer Guy's 'ladies'? Idk.

Now, I actually have a hard time interpreting Wires and Sweet. They just look really complicated to me, maybe because English isn't my first language.

I don't know, where to put Angles (maybe pre-crisis or next to All Smiles?), The Roll and Searchers (as I don't have lyrics).

And one more thought on Release. Most of the song is just a phrase “Rosetta stone” on a loop, right? I guess, everyone knows that, but Rosetta stone was a stone found by Napoleon's soldiers, that made it possible to people of modern times to read hieroglyphs. So maybe in Black Plastic we will get our “Rosetta Stone”, explaining all of these?

I ignored Eve's hair, although that may be a little bit of a hint of how the time works.

It was a loose theory, I hope, you enjoyed it. I'm mostly posting this, so when Black Plastic comes out, I can compare it to what actually is there.

Am I right in thinking some Celtic peoples practiced something akin to tattooing? I'm sure I've read stuff by Roman historians about it, so obviously grain of salt and all that.

They did, yes. Most likely body painting rather than tattooing, but then, it might have been tattooed in.

The common misconception is that they used woad, which, unusually, isn’t actually Caesar’s fault for once. Instead, it’s the fucking English, of all people. In the 1600s there was obviously that big mad scramble to colonnise the “New World” i.e. cyfe everything not nailed down, and England wanted to justify why it should get the indigo plantations instead of the Spanish on Moral Grounds (OH MY GOD I KNOW). So, Queen Lizzie One went ‘Hey, my granddad was Slightly Welsh, and that’s Celtic, and they used woad and also did tattooing, maybe that’ll work.” And so, they put about that woad - a relative of indigo - was what her ancestors had used culturally, and therefore indgo was part of her heritage.

It was not true.

The Insular Celts did use woad, that much is true, but they used it as an antiseptic, mostly. While it is a relative of indigo, it doesn’t produce anything close to the dyes you get from that one; the colour is similar, but not remotely as strong, and even with the best mordants it washes easily out of cloth. It was a medicinal plant, basically. There’s a theory that they would bathe in the stuff before battle as part of a ritual, but that was probably because it you’ve basted yourself in Savlon before running at swords and other pointy things, you’re much less likely to die of secondary infection (or, as you might perceive it, it means the gods have lent you protection.) And, of course, woad is an astringent. If you tried tattooing in an astringent, the best you could ever really hope for was semi-permanent bruising.

But, there are accounts of Pretty Blue Patterns on the skin, so PREPARE FOR TEDIOUS HISTORICAL CITATIONS

So first up we’ve got our boy Caesar, of course. Exhibit A, taken from De Bellum Gallico:

More on that in a bit. Next, Exhibit B, Claudius Claudianus:

Again, I’ll come back to that. Exhibit C is this sexy motherfucker:

Lindow Man! The most complete bog body found in Britain. I shan’t go into the debate surrounding how he died. That’s a rant for another time. The important thing here is the copper found on his skin.

So, let’s kick off. Caesar there is doing some Classic Caesar Bullshit, look - the only time the man ever came to Britain was to briefly do a meet-and-greet with a single south-eastern tribe in, like, Kent, before fucking off back to Rome, but he always was very good at ascribing the actions of one person to an entire people because Caesar was a massive fucking tool; so yeah, grain-of-salt. But it’s probably fair to say he was giving a good overview of a common practice in the south-east of Britain, at least.

And what’s interesting is the word he used for the colouring substance, which I have here translated as ‘glass’; but the word was ‘vitro’. Vitro was a contemporary-to-Caesar Roman blue-green glass, ver’ ver pretty:

- and, crucially, the major additive to create that colour was, in fact, iron(II) oxide. Let’s revisit Exhibit B: Claudianus’ Picts, who ‘marked their faces with iron’. For ages, historians interpretted that very literally, and thought they were practising facial scarification; but there’s a whole host of reasons why that’s unlikely, not limited to the potential to kill yourself with sepsis when you live in an arse-frozen Scottish highland with no NHS.

What seems more likely, it seems to me (and others, this isn’t just my theory)… Is that the Picts, much like the Insular Celts, were of course highly skilled metal workers, and therefore produced a lot of useful compounds in their forges that they realised could be used for pigments. Because these people were incredible metal workers, as we know:

If you’re that good, you have an extensive and highly skilled cultural knowledge bank around the raw materials you’re using, you know? You know what iron and copper and tin can do, though admittedly, I don’t think they worked out that copper poisoning was a thing.

We’ve found Romano-British cosmetics, incidentally, that back this up. In 2004, they found a villa that contained a half-used pot of Romano-British foundation made of animal fat, starch and, crucially, tin oxide. When rubbed onto the skin it makes you pale while leaving a light, powdery texture. It also, unlike the lead-based continental equivalents, didn’t corrode the skin like wax under a fucking candle.

So, step in Lindow Man! Copper deposits were found on his skin, and although decomposition has meant it’s not possible to see them exactly, they did tests to see it the copper was in the places you’d expect painting vs places you wouldn’t, and the results certainly supported the theory. I believe other bog bodies have just about had visible blue swirls, too.

And, unlike woad, you can tattoo iron oxides into the skin without issue. Technically you can tattoo copper in, but Lindow Man was most likely painted. I’d say that was just as well, since tattooing copper would kill you - but Lindow Man died horribly and violently and got chucked in a bog for two millennia, so ultimately, I doubt it made much difference to him. Though, a bonus fact: he had excellent white teeth, perfectly manicured nails, and his hair and beard had been trimmed with scissors, giving us concrete evidence of hygiene practices and tools among the Celts.

To round off: it seems likely they did something, though whether it was painting or tattooing, we don’t really know. It was probably done with metal compounds, and certainly not with woad. Queen Lizzie One lost the indigo plantations to the Spanish anyway. Lindow Man’s life was fabulous if riddled with parasites, right up to the point it very abruptly wasn’t, somewhere in his 20s.

And the Celts made exquisite metal stuff.

He had ducked into the building to get out of the rain. Shizuma found him nearly asleep on one of the gantries. Startled and spoiling for a fight hassaku attacked shizuma but he was no match for him.  Shizuma can smell emotional vulnerability a mile away, like blood in the water .hassaku is in marvel at how easily this man knocked his ass to the ground and now? Listening to him is like savlon of the soul. When shizuma asks him to join him hassaku jumps at the chance .

Buntan

Buntan and shizuma met at the academy but not the way you’d think. They were in the same year but not the same class. They would occasionally make goo-goo eyes at one another across the canteen , buntans friends telling her to ask him out, but it never went any further than that. They didn’t have any real interaction until the chunin exams.

The year they graduated the exam took place in suna; all the kiri kids are water babes and as such they were suffering in suna’s dry heat. Buntan and Shizuma were paired up at random by their tutor for a quick sparing match early in the morning before it became too hot for them all. Buntan was taking her training seriously but shizuma was just playing around. As far as he was concerned the exam was beneath him. Buntan called him arrogant , until he told her it was beneath someone of  her skill too; buntan was struck dumb. Shizuma took advantage of the situation to win the match but honestly she couldn’t bring herself to bear much of a grudge .

Especially not after he invited her out for dinner to make up for it. They got to talking and realised how much they had in common ( regarding the blood mist anyway)

Theyve been pretty inseparably since.

Ichirota

Shizuma went looking for Ichirota.  Hes a year or two his senior so i doubt they were in the same class. He might have seen shizuma around the academy but its been implied that shizuma was a poor student so i doubt they associated much . mr Ichirota “perfect grade” oniyuzu does not affiliate with second class low achieving scum. Especially not a low chaste member of kiri like a hoshigaki.

Ichirota is terminally bored of life. Hes looking for anything to make things interesting for him . no one is more surprised than Ichirota when shizuma slides into his life with his ideas of revolution.. it doesn’t take long for Ichirota to become completely devoted to the idea and by affiliation, shizuma.

 Hebiichigo

Hebiichigo was out of the academy for over a year before she met shizuma. They were both on penance for botched missions at the time: doing menial labor around kiri . hebii is tiny. Labor is not for her, she tried to tell the powers that be that she couldn’t do something like that but no one listened. Bitter and grumpy everyone else on penance avoided her for fear of stabbing. nobody noticed hebiichigo get knocked over and stuck under a pile of logs . shizuma herd her swearing and squeeking by accident and simply came over to investigate out of curiosity. He eventually got her out, after about 20 minutes of laughing and even offered to help  her finish her work as a reward for giving him a good laugh.

He then discovered that hebiichigo has a damn good right hook. He recruited her because she is mean as all hell and always ready to fight. if youre going to war you need an angry goblin like hebiichigo

Kyoho

No one knows where shizuma found kyoho. He speaks so little the only reason everyone in the stripe squad knows his name is even kyoho is because he has it on the door of his room.

The prevailing theory is that kyoho used to participate in a lot of underground illegal sparing matches in and around kiri. They’re pretty popular since fighting to the death is discouraged now  thanks chojuro . they think shizuma must have gone to watch or participate and found kyoho down there like some sort of kiri god of war. Impressed by his bloodlust and sheer strength there was no way shizuma was going to leave someone of his skill alone. He just sort of showed up one day with a suitcase ( no one knows what was in it) and moved in to their hideout. Shizuma just acted like it was totally normal and everyone was too freaked out by this behemoth of a man showing up on their doorstep to ask.

Kagura

Shizuma only took the position of senpai at the academy teaching all those little snotty brats how not to use a sword  because his parents told him it would be good for him ( or rather they said do it or suffer our wrath)  Shizuma was just a bored instructor half heartedly supervising until he saw kagura. He’d heard the rumours ; that Yaguras grandson was in the academy, but he didn’t believe it until he saw kagura for himself. Ever since then kept an uncomfortably close eye on kagura waiting for the chance to  get closer to him.

Kagura being the little cinnamon roll he is never noticed shizuma trying to monopolise his time, never realised that shizuma was the one spreading rumours about kaguras viciousness around the academy in an attempt to drive him to shizumas side. Not until it was too late anyway

 BONUS

Tsurushi Hachiya

Tsurushi fell in with shizuma totally by accident and got too deep in way to fast. The light closed above him and now he was sort of stuck with a crazed murderer. He knew from the start that this new group of friends was bad news but he didn’t care. He had a group of “friends” who listened to him, who looked up to him. Shizuma saw he had a large following of blind fools who just wanted to cause trouble

Their first meeting was cool enough. Shizuma took him and a load of others out to dinner , flaunting his power by getting them a private table in the back room. Tsurushi felt like a kid at the adults table but he didn’t care because this was just so cool!.

Things  were going swimmingly...untill shizuma reviled he knew several of his minions had betrayed him. Their food poisoned they were dead within minutes leaving the rest him stairing in abject horror while the rest of the table looked on in apathy.

Shizuma could only smile at his reactions.”how cute” he had said. Tsurushi wasn’t used to death, especially not when it had fallen on his lap before the hors d'oeuvres.  It didn’t occur to Tsurushi until much later that this wasn’t just an efficient way to get rid of his enemies; it was a warning to him and him specifically. “ this is what happens when you mess with me.”

Tsurushi will forever be grateful to boruto and sarada for getting him out of that situation and putting shizuma away.

Social Distancing and Isolation!

Dear Vishan & Vineshka,

Vineshka: “Hey! I wanted some <bombay mix>” Chandru: <sticks out his tongue with the last bit on it> Vineshka:��“Yuck.”

Me: “What?”

Vineshka: “Daddy is being disgusting! He wants me to take stuff out of his mouth!”

Me: “Ah... you will take stuff out of my mouth, though?”

Vineshka: “Nooo?”

Me: “What? Penguins take food out of their mom’s mouth all the time! Penguins love their mouth more than you love your mom!”

Vineshka: “Nooo... I love you!”

Me: “You won’t take food out of my mouth!”

Vineshka: “Technically, I have already done that. When I was a baby in your tummy, you ate and I took that food... so I love you.”

It’s been more than a month in isolation. You guys and mommy have not left the house for more than two weeks. The only person who goes out is daddy for grocery shopping and that only when we need it. 

Life is filled with fun in the garden - colouring, working, grilling,  bird watching, basketball hoop shooting, football kicking, sun tanning, chilling and gardening. 

I have never appreciated that fact that we have a garden quite like this before. I am so glad we have a decent sized patio and that the weather has been warm enough to spend quite a bit of time outside in the garden.

Daddy has been taking fitness sessions over zoom. Before the pandemic social distancing measures, he used to do it once a week but now he has them four times a week at least. You guys join in sometimes. I have successfully resisted mainly because the classes are at 7am in the morning and I still rather like my lie ins. However, today I joined you in playing ‘Just Dance’ on the Nintendo switch. I managed three dances before collapsing on the sofa. You guys managed to go on for near two hours and you did the harder levels! I have a long way to go 😒

The Easter break was quiet as you can imagine but daddy managed to get a couple of chocolate eggs. I was rather happy once school ‘started’ again on google classroom. It keeps you guys busy and gives us a routine to follow which is helpful. While daddy and I get through the workday, you guys get through the school day. Every week, you also have piano lessons over zoom which is nice. Vineshka is going to start practicing for the prep test. Vishan did that when he was 9 I think, since he started lessons later in life. 

You are both quite independent in your learning and I am ever so grateful for that. I’ve had a lot of meetings - ten on Monday which was just horrendous! Even off the cuff catch ups with my work mates turn into a full zoom call. It is quite tiring. There has been theories from a psychologist in Stanford that we find it more tiring because we are always paying attention to faces looking at you over a video call. I think there is something in that. It would have been so much more tiring, if I had to be active in guiding your school work. You guys make it easy though. In the mornings, I get you to make a list of what you think you have to do. I have a laptop (daddy’s old one) for Vishan and a mini iPad for Vineshka. I don’t have a printer so no print work for you both. You have to write the date properly and number your answer on paper. French learning often goes undone. Hopefully, you guys will catch up on that once this is all over. You do what you can which is normally everything in Maths and English. I take a picture and upload it back to google classroom. Unless you ask for help, I don’t correct the work on most days. I am pretty much letting you guide your work. Vishan is just brilliant at doing all the work and Vineshka does a near-complete job too. Even if I don’t tell you, I am not stressed about how much you do. If you don’t make a good effort, as in sit and do something... anything, I won’t let you have TV or time on the Nintendo but you can still play with Lego or colour or something instead. It’s my only rule. I can’t have no rules; Therein lies anarchy! In reality, I have accepted that even if you fall behind by a year, you will catch up when this is over and you go back to school. We have had accidents too! Vineshka was dancing last week and leaped high and then landed on a small plastic cone which punctured the sole of her beautiful little feet. At first, I laughed. It seemed like karma was getting back at you for all the times I have stepped on lego pieces. However, soon she started screaming about blood so I got my medical kit while Vishan kept her distracted. I cleaned it with antiseptic and put some Savlon on it. I called the GP the day after, and a nurse called right back to reassure me that I was doing the right thing. It is all back to normal now so 😅 

So my plan is to keep you busy, safe and relatively unbroken. Hopefully, that is good enough. The house is still filled with your giggles, shrieks and fights. I am counting that as relative wins.

The wedding was more than you bargained for--color coordinated suckers are cute, in theory--but as long as it’s Insta-worthy, right? Form vs Function is a shitty equation, but it all costs money. Where do you want it to go? Who gets the Almighty Dollar when you’re down to your last two pennies? Good news is, you’ll probably come out of this smelling like roses and you’ll be better prepared for next time, to boot. Who knows, maybe you did so well (once you solved that pesky multitasking question) that you might be entrusted with more responsibilities.
