I decided to ask my two brothers to perform a dance together. [...] I want to be the Queen of Children's Day, making all my classmates envious that I have such handsome two brothers.

Wait/Save the last dance for me
It began as a post about 'wait' for @i-am-the-oyster then it became to post about all the things between waiting and disillusion because we've talking about it with @thewalrusespublicist. And then it became to this mess with dances, waits, leaves and come backs - but it's organized chaos, trust me, and it's like a really dance.
Dance/love Wait Walk away/you never know Come back/home/take me back
So I wait and in a while I will see my true love smile
(A World Without Love, 1958/63)
I’ll wait until tomorrow Till you come my way That’s why I sit here Alone and I pray… But I’ll wait till tomorrow Through a thousand setting suns I’ll wait till tomorrow If tomorrow ever comes…
(I’ll Wait Till Tomorrow)
Wake up in the morning I don’t feel blue ’Cause I know I got you
(Because I Know You Love Me So, circa Jan 1958)
Well, she was just seventeen, you know what I mean And the way she looked was way beyond compare So how could I dance with another When I saw her standin' there Well, she looked at me and I could see That before too long I'd fall in love with her 'Cause she wouldn't dance with another When I saw her standin' there
(I Saw Her Standing There, 1962/1963, Please Please Me)
If somebody tries to take my place Let's pretend we just can't see his face In this world there's nothing I would rather do I've discovered I'm in love with you 'Cause I'm happy just to dance with you
(I’m Happy Just to Dance with You, 1964, A Hard Day’s Night)
There's no fun in what I do when she's not there I wonder what went wrong, I've waited far too long I think I'll take a walk and look for her
(I Don’t Want To Spoil The Party, 1964/65, Beatles For Sale)
It's been a long time, now I'm coming back home I've been away now, oh, how I've been alone Wait till I come back to your side We'll forget the tears we've cried … I feel as though you ought to know That I've been good, as good as I can be And if you do, I'll trust in you And know that you will wait for me
(Wait, 1965, Rubber Soul)
When your prized possessions Start to weigh you down Look in my direction I'll be 'round, I'll be 'round When your bird is broken Will it bring you down? You may be awoken I'll be 'round, I'll be 'round
(And Your Bird Can Sing, 1966, Revolver)
Now, Honey Pie, you are making me crazy I'm in love but I'm lazy So, won't you please come home? Come, come back to me, Honey Pie <…> To be where you belong Honey pie, come back to me
(Honey Pie, 1968, The Beatles/White Album)
Who knows how long I've loved you You know I love you still Will I wait a lonely lifetime If you want me to - I will
(I Will, 1968, The Beatles/White Album)
Are you happy here honey, happy? Are you happy here? I ain’t happy here my honey Can you take me back? Can you take me back where I came from? Can you take me back?
(Can you take me back, 1968)
Do you, don't you want me to love you? I'm coming down fast but I'm miles above you Tell me, tell me, tell me, come on tell me the answer You may be a lover but you ain't no dancer
(Helter-Skelter, 1968, The Beatles/White Album)
Many times I've been alone and many times I've cried Anyway you'll never know the many ways I've tried But still they lead me back to the long winding road You left me standing here a long long time ago Don't leave me waiting here lead me to your door
(The Long And Winding Road, 1969, Let It Be)
Anyway you’ve always known, the many ways I’ve tried
(The Long And Winding Road, 2003, Let It Be…Naked)* *remember, Paul in 1969 didn't choice the song's take, it did Spector, Klein - whoever it was, but not Paul, maybe they took wrong take, who knows)
All these years I've been wandering around Wondering how come nobody told meAll that I was looking for was somebody who looked like you!*
(I've Got A Feeling, 1969)
*I don't know why nobody told you How to unfold your love I don't know how someone controlled you
(While My Guitar Gently Weeps, 1968, White Album)
When you told me, you didn't need me anymore Well, you know I nearly broke down and cried When you told me, that you didn't need me anymore Well, you know I nearly fell down and died Oh! Darling, if you leave me I'll never make it alone Believe me when I tell you I'll never do you no harm (Believe me, darling!)
(Oh! Darling, 1969, Abbey Road)
Get back to where you once belonged Get back, Jo Jo
(Get Back, 1969)
Did I hear you say That there must be a catch? Will you walk away From a fool and his money? Sonny, if you want it, here it is, come and get it But you'd better hurry 'cause it's going fast
(Come And Get It, 1969)
Hey Diddle I want you back Diddle I want you back Hey Diddle I want you back Diddle I want you back I don't belong My heart isn't strong Don't belong
(Hey Diddle, Oct 1970/summer of 1974/Wingspan Hits And History, 2001)
Ram on, give your heart to somebody soon, Right away, right away
(Ram On, 1971, Ram)
I guess you never knew, dear boy What you had found… I guess you never saw, dear boy That love was there
(Dear Boy, 1971, Ram)
I wish you knew, that's just how true My love was
(No Words, 1973, Band on the Run)
I may never tell you But baby you should know There may be a miracle And baby I love you so
(Power Cut, 1973, Red Rose Speedway)
Hello Joe I hope you're feeling better This is a little tape To give you an idea of how y'know my love goes It's very rough But you don't have to feel so down Thank you
(Message To Joe, January 1976/Wings At The Speed Of Sound - Archive Collection, 2014)
Oh baby you couldn't Have done a worse thing to me If you'd have taken an arrow And run it right through me Oh baby a bird in the hand Is worth two flying But when it came to love I knew you'd be lying <…> It could have been A finer fling Flying in a righter direction With no other thing Featuring but love and affection Come on get up Get under way And bring your love
(Arrow Through Me, 1979, Back To The Egg)
All my little plans and schemes Lost like some forgotten dreams Seems that all I really was doing Was waiting for you <…> From this moment on I know Exactly where my life will go Seems that all I really was doing Was waiting for love <…> Don't need to be afraid (Don't need to be alone) It's real love, it's real Yes, it's real love, it's real
(Real Love, circa 1979)
Because I love you, my little friend I really love you Give me just one more chance And I'll show you Take up the dance where we left off The rest of our life is the, my little I'm home
((Forgive Me) My Little Flower Princess, Aug 1980)
'Well, Paul told me he said 'John [after his death] will come back…' (Carl Perkins)
Can I get you to show me a little of your mime? You were always a very good dancer … I wait, I wait, I can wait. I can wait back in the bar. I can wait, I can wait, I can wait back in the car. I'll be waiting for you.
(Stranglehold, 1986, Press To Play)
Oh white blanket, hiding the traces' of tears she didn't see. Snow white blanket simply covers the memory Of all that used to be. But his heart keeps aching in the same old way. He can't help feeling that she might come back someday.
(Footprints, 1986, Press To Play)
You told me you will find me, pretty baby, But you know you never came, yeah
(I Wanna Cry, 1989, B-Side of the single This One)
I thought I saw your shadow in an old doorway But when I looked again I thought I made a big mistake, It was someone else, who looked a little like you, But now I know, ah ha ha, ain't no one like you. I'll tell you why I know, babe, Hey, 'cause I'm looking for you, looking for you, Yeah, I'm looking for you, That's all I do, that's all <…> Hey nah nah nah, let me tell you, baby, The earth ain't flat, I finally made the decision, and that is that. And now I know, there's only one place to be, You know where that place is, Yeah, for you to be with me.
(Looking For You, 1997, Flaming Pie)

Heard “Save the Last Dance for Me” (The Drifters) for the first time in ages this afternoon on the way to watch my nephew’s last soccer game of the season, and, wow, the song really hit me today.
youtube
[song.link for other services]
So much so that I feel so compelled to write a Hosie songfic for it, but man I can’t think of a scenario that’d really make sense.
Oh! I’d been thinking about it from Hope’s POV, but maybe it works better with Josie’s, where everyone is obsessed with Hope? Dunno.
I think it still feels odd from any angle. The only things that seem reasonable to me are that
the speaker is an introvert, wallflower, or not a member of the popular crowd (but still comes to the dance?!), or
it’s a secret relationship (not necessarily that one’s not out yet, but family issues, Romeo & Juliet, cliques, etc.), or
it’s a job somehow (and once the lights are off and the people are gone, the last dance is for them alone).
But the “permissive flirting” or whatever is still hard to reconcile.
Maybe I’m just overthinking it?

The problem with writing Lucas is that I am not used to writing from the POV of someone who is attracted to girls in a fairly non-neurotic way.
#honestly the tricky thing is that he’s been making out with max for a year and change#so girls liking him isn’t totally new#but he’s not used to being the object of multiple crushes#and he has his insecurities but he never thought that max would be the only girl to ever like him#save the last dance for me

Thinking about Paul singing in Hey Jude 'take a load off, Fanny, put the load right on me.' Well, that's what John did, so… And love it's linked not only with The Weight by The Band but with Pore Jud Is Daid from Oklahoma! and Save the Last Dance for Me too. And John and Paul arguing with fervency: It's about me! - No, it's about me! Never boring.

04x16 - Save The Last Dance For Me
Jim and Alec are inside a van whilst June and Mike are 'casually' walking along a street after parking their car further down. Derek warns everyone to keep things quiet on the radio until they hear from June. Ted asks Derek if he's sure that they can trust his informant. Derek says she's been forced to allow escaped prisoner Bush and his girlfriend to use her flat as a meeting point so he doesn't see why they shouldn't. June and Mike enter a social center and head upstairs to the Irvine School Of Dance.
Uniform are on standby should Derek's operation kick off. They're sat in the canteen together to wait. Robin tries to order a soft drink but Yorkie refuses and says he'll have a cuppa like everyone else!
Dashers shows his warrant card to the dance school tutor and she invites them to talk through what's going to happen. They're observing a house just along from the dance school. It's the best vantage point so they have to continue even though there's a lesson booked. He and June ask her not to tell anyone else that the police are present, they're simply new students if anyone asks.
Uniform discusses escaped prisoner Bush. They think he'll be armed to the teeth to avoid having to go back inside. Viv watches as armed police come into the canteen with their weapons. Yorkie shrugs, Conway must mean business if he's asked them along. Pete removes a packet of cards from his locker but when Bob asks where he's been he simply insists he's been giving his shoes a brush over. "You can tell a lot about a man by his shoes." Pete's look new and unused....! Ahem.
June updates the officers outside and at the station about the room they're in being used for a dance class so suggests they maintain radio silence unless absolutely necessary. She'll give two clicks on the receiver when the girlfriend arrives and three when the target arrives. Alec hands the radio to Jim to listen out to whilst he has a kip, he's adamant that Bush won't make an appearance.
Dashers worries that the cheek-to-cheek dancing is a bit erotic. June reckons she could have sewn a few thousand sequins to her leotard if she'd had more warning. Dashers reckons they should have gotten Bob Cryer involved given June's description of 'old time dancing'.
No one else thinks that Bush is going to show up. Derek asks Ted for his opinion and Ted summarises that a promise from 'crumpet' is a powerful thing, the common sense goes and you think about nothing else. "Would you fall for it?" "Hook line and sinker." Ted smirks. "But I'm not Terry Bush." June and Mike are observed by a rather awkward young man who arrives early. June only just manages to avoid him seeing her radio as she hides it in her bag.
Back at the canteen, Bob excuses himself to the Duty Sgt's office to get on with some work. Taffy realises it could be a prime opportunity for him to do some studying. "... If only I could be bothered." Viv wishes there was a TV in the canteen. "What about charades?" Robin asks with enthusiasm. "Don't tell me, a berk doing an impression of a berk! Do another one....." Yorkie snarks. "Three card brag, who's in?" asks Pete.
More students are starting to appear, the awkward man is still obviously staring at June and Alec Peters is fast asleep and snoring.
June turns away and looks out the window. Bush's girlfriend is arriving. She has to get Dashers to distract the strange man from looking at her so she can press the radio discreetly. The man even tries to look around Dashers at June when he approaches him!
Viv suggests going to update Bob (he has a radio himself he must have heard?) Pete tells her it's a waste of time because Bush will only appear if he thinks it's 100 percent safe and then, once in the flat, they'll have at least 2 hours to make their approach on him. "As long as that?" Smirks Taffy. "He has been locked up for 7 years, Taff. That's a lot of passion to use up!" Pete suggests playing for money. These poor buggers haven't had the warning that Bob and Derek have not to play cards with Pete...!
The tutor demonstrates a step and Mike and June are on the edges watching and looking gobsmacked at the sight in front of them.
"I think we've stepped into a time capsule..." June whispers.
The money is starting to add up on the table. Yorkie thinks he's got Pete where he wants him...
... unfortunately not. "New game, new enemies." Pete muses, collecting his winnings.
Alec is trying to pee but it's not working. Jim's constant attempts to get him to hurry up aren't exactly helping. Jim thinks he can spot something happening outside. He gets out and quietly runs over. "You've got into some bad ways since you got into CID, Carver!" Alec continues, unaware Jim isn't there.
Mr Awkward approaches June to ask her to dance. She tries to say she'd rather watch but gives in and follows him.
Alec finally finishes and goes to get in the van where he's surprised to see Jim has a little friend and that he's on the radio asking for a car to pick up his prisoner who has stolen lots of badges.
June is dancing with Mr Awkward, which causes Mike to have to look out of the window to hide his smile.
Taffy now thinks he's got Pete. Viv says she doesn't know but Robin presses Taffy to keep going. Taffy produces a note from his pocket to 'see' Pete. Taffy does beat him... but Bob makes his presence known before he can collect his winnings. He bollocks them for gambling on work time and puts the winnings in the poor box, sending Pete and Taffy out to collect Jim's prisoner.
Ted asks Derek when the last time he was out on an OBBO was but he doesn't answer. Derek is antsy and asks Ted if he'd walk up to the front door. Ted suggests if he's driving he'd probably check the area out several times but he doesn't know what he'd do if he's on foot. Ted asks Derek if he'd ever spent time in CID when based at The Yard when he complains about how long it's taking. Derek says yes, Ted asks if that was based in administration. "... Some of the time," Derek adds with a scowl. Ted's reaction makes me laugh. It's so knowing!
June spots Bush's girlfriend scoping out the street. "We're not the only ones getting impatient..." she sighs, before spotting a woman approaching Mike. "... Your turn, I believe."
Taffy reckons Bob was out of order taking the money from them and says his wife, Mary, won't be happy when she realises he's lost £25 for nothing. "Ask for some more pocket money!" Pete laughs before promising a chance to get even.
Ted has to stop Derek from pressing the radio and calling for updates. He reminds him that June and Mike are in charge of transmissions as they're the ones watching out and he shouldn't out them.
Mike's dance partner tells him her kids are away and she gets bored and that's why she's there. She thinks he's quiet and he covers with telling her his girlfriend doesn't like him talking to other women.
Pete asks their prisoner how much money he has on him as though he'd let him go for it if it's enough. Taffy is horrified so Pete covers that he was only winding him up.
A man bursts into the dance class and makes a beeline for Mike and his partner, punching Mike and then laying into him! He's the husband of her partner and he's accusing her of cheating on him. June tries to help but she's thrown off him. In his assault on Mike, he sees the gun Mike has inside his jacket and takes it off him before aiming it at him.
He shouts that he wants his kids back and it appears they've been taken into care because of his temper. The music is turned off and just in perfect timing, Derek calls June on the radio for an update. The man is even more furious that she was dancing with a policeman and blames him for taking his kids away. Luckily the gun doesn't fire when he tries to do so and Mike manages to overpower him.
During the arrest - Mr Strange leaps on him too!
Mr Strange asks how Mike was so lucky for the gun to misfire and Mike explains he never loads until he needs to.
"June if you can't transmit for any reason, press the transmit button on your radio...." Derek says.
June glares out the window and drops the radio into her bag to return to Mike. "You shouldn't have done that. Ackland and Dashwood are the ones on the spot." Ted says calmly before settling back more comfortably in his seat for a long wait!
