Decided to finally nail down my design for King Sausage of Mythland! His cape is very dramatic because it needed to match his personality lol.

I'm ashamed to say I've never actually watched any of Sausage's eps for empires, I'm pretty sure the only content of his I saw was Joey interacting with the Church of the Blood Sheep I think???? But bc of that, this design was so hard 😩 I went with his king skin tho cus I feel it's the most recognizable

I went almost entirely just European, specifically like the royal paintings where they have very wide shoulders. I wanted him to be very square and broad, that he looks strong and immovable.

But, when you look closer, you realize how impractical and bulky he actually is, which hints at how he's egotistical and too prideful for his own good. His only armor/weapons are iron, and everything else is gold, also leaning into that idea.

For the rest of everything, I just leaned into the lore of blood. Every animal except the Blood Sheep can 'give blood', either to the Sheep or to Sausage if he needs a regen. I fought with the idea of sausage not having blood of his own but idk, I kinda want him to just so he can offer to the Blood Sheep

BTW the Blood Sheep constantly pours blood from its soaked wool, it acts like water in the kingdom. And the dogs are a hive mind, connected by blood frfr (I think that's how all blood-related people would be in mythland? Tho maybe it'd also be smthn that requires the Blood Sheep idk)

For context: I am Arabic and Muslim-raised, I'm not just pulling this out of my ass, this is my own culture so don't accuse me of cultural appropriation please-

In Islam, there's this concept, Mahram, which is basically the men that a specific women can be uncovered (without hijab/modesty) in front of or around. 

Mahram also means the men that a woman cannot marry, because they are family to her, people that can see her without hijab. 

For any woman, her brothers, father, sons, uncles, and grandfathers are all mahram- she cannot marry them because they are blood, and so she can be uncovered in front of them. If she gets married, the husband would be added in as a mahram as well.

I bring this up because I came up with a super lore headcanon that doesn't exactly fit very well with anything but whatever, i wanna toss my own culture in and so i shall-

The only way a person can be made mahram to someone without being related by blood or marriage is through breastfeeding- basically, if an unrelated baby boy and girl were breastfed by the same person, regardless of whether that person is their parent or not, then those two babies are now siblings and mahram to each other; in Islam, they cannot marry each other, because they are siblings. 

A lot of people headcanon Sausage, Fwhip, and Gem as siblings- I ship wither husbands, so im not much of a roseblings follower, but i can make it work-

Mythland and Pixandria fought a lot in canon- we can make pre-canon lore for this that makes the two empires have a long history of battling each other-

and when two places fight each other so much, theres the inevitability of the two picking up customs and culture from each other from so much interaction, from soldiers living in the other empire for so long they learn new things and bring them back home-

And Pixandria is a desert empire, adding in Arabic culture with them makes sense, to a certain extent- 

Mythland picks up the cultural habit of, not of mahram, but of the method of making two unrelated children related for adoption purposes.

Years later, when the Grimlands/Crystal Cliffs, in their still combined-into-one-empire glory, come to make an alliance with Mythland, they propose an alliance of adoption, instead of marriage.

The newly-born heir of Mythland and the newly born heirs of Grimlands-Crystal Cliffs are breastfed by the same nurses, and are raised together as siblings, ensuring that the three empires would have a strong alliance bound by kin and family for years to come.

I can always talk about Pearl in any context! I'm assuming this is related to the character study snippets (If I am wrong pls let me know and I will happily talk more) so here we go!

"And match!" The boy on the ground grinned up at her and tried to sit up. Pearl didn't let him. For a moment he looked confused and scowled up at her. She scowled back and pushed her knees harder into his arms. "The match is over." "What?" The Mythland boy nodded his head towards the old man perched in a chair at the edge of the arena. "He called the match. It's over. You won." Slowly, Pearl backed up, not loosening her grip on her staff. The boy sat up immediately and beamed at her, ridiculously cheerful for someone who just got his butt kicked by a girl half his size. The boys in her village were never so chill about it. "You were really cool!" He bounced to his feet and towards her, Pearl backed up a couple rapid steps and he stopped, though he kept bouncing. "You said you'd never used a staff before, what weapon do you usually use? A sword?" Slightly stunned, Pearl shook her head slowly. "I've never used a sword." The boy's grin turned sharper, though still delighted and, despite all common sense, Pearl did not feel afraid as he brushed red sand off the sides of his fancy loose shirt. "Would you like to?"

Here's my contribution to the Mythland section of the @empiropediazine! (click for quality)

I decided to go more in detail on the cauldron at the center of the summoning circle, coming up with the lore that all settlements in Mythland have one near their city center, and that it's decorated for every religious holiday!

(Also, the runes at bottom of the cauldrons are based on the ones used for enchanting tables, so feel free to try and decipher what word they're spelling out)
