Summary:
In the distant past, the Guardian of the Milky Way galaxy named Lanancuras began to harbor a desire for more power. Because of his connection to the galaxy, he was able to absorb parts of planets and add them to his strength. As a result, he began invading the worlds he was assigned to protect. In the wake of his destruction, a following of creatures from across the galaxy pledged allegiance to Lanancuras and became known as the Kadrians. Taking notice of his ever-growing power and followers, the other Celestial Guardians confronted him; however, he had become too powerful, and they were defeated. Unable to subdue Lanancuras, the Celestial Guardians each gave up a part of their power and combined it into a single new Guardian, Mushra. In a final desperate attempt, they used Mushra's core by transforming it into a powerful card with which to seal Lanancuras in a prison. The prison was created from the remains of planets that had suffered under Lanancuras' tyranny. Because planets are themselves large beings, their combined strength (along with the power of the card) was able to restrain him. Thus Lanancuras was successfully sealed in a large meteorite.
The meteorite was sent off into the galaxy to be sealed forever. Meanwhile, the way Lanancuras had increased his strength had consequences on the planets of the Milky Way On Earth, around the 22nd century, it was in the shape of a virus that merged with human DNA and destroyed the humans that way. In order to eliminate the virus, scientists worked on combining human DNA with the DNA of animals and other creatures immune to the effects. They succeeded and created a sentient race known as Enterrans (a race of engineered Earthlings) which are based on humans, insects, reptiles, birds, sea creatures, wild beasts, and phantom beasts. Eventually, a cure was found and the human race survived.
However, due to Lanancuras' influence, the Enterrans fought their human creators as well as the robots that worked with the humans, driving the human race to a near extinction state. Luckily, a scientist named Dr. Daigo Tatsuro placed his 4-year-old daughter Yakumo in a sleep chamber in hopes that she would save the human race and find the human sanctuary Shinzo and bring peace back to Earth which was then renamed to Enterra. When the meteor that Lanancuras was imprisoned in struck Earth during the earlier parts of the Human-Enterran War, its fragment had struck an infant Yakumo giving her abilities that she would later discover.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

And this, fellas, is why you should always be nice and (somewhat lol) respectful to your wife/gf/random friends you make. I guarantee if Tozawa had treated Misaki and Kazuko with kindness and respect, both would have done all they could to protect him.
Because Sato had integrity and loyalty (I mean, as much as a criminal can have lmao) a whole bunch of people trusted and looked to him again and again, including: Ishida Oyabun, Samantha, Katagiri, Jake, those Yakuza at the bathhouse when he disposed of Hayama, that one guy whose life he spared and all those Yakuza at the restaurant in the last episode.
Even his mom dared to ask him to please save his little brother, after the way she would constantly speak to him and be dismissive of him she shouldn't have expected anything but she knew the kind of person Sato was.
I looks forward to seeing what kind of leader (did he become Oyabun or just an interim Oyabun until they pick an actual one? either way) he will be in season 3

Hiii Pen, dear. I just saw your thoughts on Tokyo Vice and omg yess, it's sooo goood, Hayama was a real piece of shit and the way Sato handled him was stellar, from his restraint to his patience to do it in the right moment, and the fact that he bowed to the Chihara-kai insignia instead of Hayama, mad respect and it showed how deserving he was to become their leader at the end. As for Tozawa, you're right, another piece of shit, but he was a piece of shit with a VISION and very smart, which made him such a incredible villain, but he really sucked with the way he handled his inner circle, specially his wife, and this was his biggest mistake because if he treated the women in his life and other people better, they would have all rallied for him like Samantha and Gen did for Sato and he would have lived, and his wife ended up being one who ultimately gave his death sentence. Yeah, the Yakuza it's still pretty much alive and kicking, maybe not operating in the same way as before, but they're still the main driving force of the Japanese underworld, and there's also so many other criminal cases that happened the writers could explore, I hope we have a s3 🥺
Hi Nonnie!!
So, so sorry it took awhile for me to reply, but I was so ecstatic reading your ask! I've been dying to talk abt Tokyo Vice s2 bc goddamn it deserves its laurels for being a phenomenal show.
(spoilers under the tag)
I wasn't expecting Sato's arc to head the way it did, but I agree and the writing for him was great! I also love how we start in the first ep of s1 with him watching the yakuza ceremony as a member of Chihara-kai to the last ep of s2 in another ceremony being appointed as the next Oyabun. Felt like a milestone. Also special shoutout to my boy Gen. I hated him like Hayama in s1 but his character development? His loyalty?? Also he left the gang for Sato??? Omg ik he's just a side character, but I love how he's always been there for Sato this season 🥹.
RIGHT?? I really liked Tozawa as a villain! Istg his whole scheme was frankly both genius and terrifying. Imagine the yakuza going corporate and controlling the country's resources and economy, and by the extension the government. He'd been so formidable and elusive. His ambition matched his corrupted morality that it was fitting that he had caused his downfall in a way. Really should've not made an enemy of his wife, like she was even willing to set aside all their bad blood at some point but he had to fuck it up hdkdkd. Also love that for his wife too! Kazuko always came across to me as someone who had this dignified, subtle power to her and I'm a sucker for coldly reserved and intelligent female characters so I was glad she had a bigger role this season!
I'll put a disclaimer abt what I know from articles like the ones from Unseen Japan and Japan Times, but yeah, I'm glad you agree with me about that part! Although recent, it would be interesting for there to be an exploration of the hangure and tokuryu coming to be as a result of the weakening yakuza, post-disenfranchisement from the law. I believe Jake Adelstein has a book sequel for Tokyo Vice, Tokyo Noir, that explores some of those aspects. While a season 3 would be cool, I personally think season 2 is a fantastic final end to the series :')
#lots of love to anon#tokyo vice#tokyo vice spoilers#i wish this season had more hype it was so good 😭#but my real beef......is how i wish they still had john grillo for s2 jjdkdkd#not that corey walter was bad but john grillo's cinematography in s1 was so alive and electrifying#just couldn't help but notice the different vibe in the shots (kabukicho popped in s1 😩)#but s2 is still one of the best written sequels to a tv series and i will stand by that#pen answers

Hugtto Precure: Final Thoughts
Leave me here while I continue to bawl at the movie. SO MANY BABIES!!!!!
Kawamura is back at it again with the character design, but with Junichi Sato as director, I knew this wasn’t gonna be a typical formula for this season. Although, I noticed a lot of parenting aspects going on throughout Hugtto. Well, Sato, you think I wouldn’t notice, but I did.
-----------------
I DID NOTICE A LOT OF SAILOR MOON REFERENCES. Two in particular.
Dr. Trauma and Ruru reminded me a lot of Hotaru Tomoe and her father in Sailor Moon S. However, I wonder if anyone noticed the whole...Black Moon arc aspect. Hear me out.
The whole Hugtan meeting Hana and the finale ending where Hana becomes a mother to someone who LOOKS like Hugtan, reminds me a LOT of Usagi and Chibiusa. When George had Hana and Hugtan alone in the final episodes...all I could think of was that moment where Prince Demande tried to keep "Sailor Moon” for himself via kidnapping. Like seriously, Sato?!
Oh, but the baby thing that keeps coming up in almost every episode, I keep recalling something much...more personal. Followers of mine who knew me since 2011, YOU MIGHT KNOW WHERE THIS IS GOING.
Episode 21 of the original Sailor Moon series.
The scene with Hiromi, Kazuko, and Asatou. Asatou had a child with him. HMMM, I WONDER IF THIS WAS ANY INSPIRATION FOR HUGTTO SO MANY YEARS LATER.
(Nice try. I’m not stupid, Sato.)
--------------
Okay, enough rambling off-topic with all the references. Let me just get to the point.
Hugtto! Precure, surprisingly, had a great premise going on. The theming of destiny, the future, and notably, PARENTING was a unique yet risky attempt. I’m very skeptical with how time-travel is handled, but at no time did I notice any inconsistencies or anything off-putting. Now, I do want to mention one little nitpick. I feel like as soon as Amour and Macherie stepped into the picture, things got weird. For about an arc or two, I swear the EmiruRuru craze refuse to cease, but I didn’t let it bother me much. Other than that...
Yeah, I seriously loved it. The group dynamic was tight with Hana being probably the coolest modern leader thus far. Hugtto! has decent to stunning animation sequences (there are a few episodes that had the best animation direction).
The tie-in season movie, for a crossover to celebrate 15 years, LEFT ME SATISFIED. I was DEEPLY moved with the message of memories and OH THE BABIES!!!!! The animation was beautiful and the CGI was breathtaking. My gosh did I keep looking at the backgrounds and think “HOW DID THEY PULL THIS OFF WITH 55 FUCKING CURES INVOLVED?!”
It is without a doubt I fully enjoyed Hugtto! Precure for breaking boundaries, such as the positive messages, the heroism, FREAKING CURE INFINI, and Hana Nono in general.
You don’t have to tell me twice. GO CHECK THIS OUT FOR YOURSELF!
----------------------
Thus, only one more Precure season to go and I’ll finally catch up (until HealPre finishes). Join me in April for the FINAL PRECURE WATCH. We’re going to SPAAAAAAAAACE!!!
Takahashi returns for a third!? Let’s see if it exceeds my expectations, because Suite and Dokidoki were decent. Plus, I LOVE ASTROLOGY. Will Star Twinkle convince me enough to rank it to the stars?
Until next time, here’s hoping senpai notices you. KIRAYABA!!!!

Sing a Song of Sex (Nagisa Oshima, 1967)
Cast: Ichiro Araki, Kazuko Tajima, Juzo Itami, Akiko Koyama, Koji Iwabuchi, Kazuyoshi Kushida, Hiroshi Sato, Nobuko Miyamoto, Hiroko Masuda, Hideko Yoshida. Screenplay: Tsutomu Tamura, Mamoru Sasaki, Toshio Tajima, Nagisa Oshima. Cinematography: Akira Takada. Set decoration: Jusho Toda. Film editing: Keiichi Uraoka. Music: Hikaru Hayashi. Politics and pornography intersect in Sing a Song of Sex, a film which, though it has four credited screenwriters, was largely improvised by its young cast. It's set at a time of political demonstrations, during which the teacher (Juzo Itami) of a group of young men preparing for their examinations tells them that bawdy songs -- the film's Japanese title has also been translated as A Treatise on Bawdy Songs -- are themselves a political statement, a way for the poorer classes to find release from oppression. And so the lines between fantasy and reality are blurred in the film as the young men act, if only in their imaginations, upon their desires, many of which focus on the pretty Mayuko (Kazuko Tajima), whom they depersonalize by referring to her by her seat number in class, 469. Often enigmatic, Sing a Song of Sex is the kind of film for which it's best that many of us just go along for the ride rather than to try to unravel its social and political implications, which are very much of a particular time and place.

Scarlet Azure, but kinda.
Chapter 1
Motive: Time Limit
Death: Tamakagi Hairyuu
Killer: Noriko Sukekiyo
Tamakagi takes the spot of Mangka, him believing that his blindness will only make him pull the group back, Noriko approaches him and asks him about the poison roulette, as to which he agrees. All events continue the same and Noriko gets shot up.
Thanks to this, Yuka doesn’t become depressed and her and Mangka are able to be happier for now.
Keiji and Ayane are together and Choko and Kasai are still trying to figure out what love is.
Mamoru and Aki are also together, although it’s apparent Aki is a little confused, people also get worried about her narcolepsy and how it could possibly make her an easy target.
Chapter 2
Motive: Secrets
Death: Keiji Tachibana
Killer: Lazarus
All the original events go as normal, although when Keiji approaches, Ayane is just hanging there, fear in his eyes he approaches the body, he realizes something as his eyes go wide… Ayane’s corpse wasn’t real, and before he realizes what’s happening, Lazarus digs the sword into his back, pinning him to the floor right under Ayane’s body.
Kasai, Yuka, and Ayane are both not doing well over this death, it’s obviously hit Ayane a lot harder and she tells everyone about her amnesia herself, feeling like it was her fault Keiji was dead, she was hoping this would make her a possible suspect.
Chapter 3
Motive: Despair Disease
Death: Choko Shinsato
Killer: Kazuko Okawa
The victims of despair disease play out the same, except there’s no Keiji. Kazuko’s illness allows him into the hospital, and he goes in there to see Yuuto, needing to talk to him about the pharmacy meds and hoping some would help him so he’d be able to test out drinks before serving them. When walking in, he sees Yuuto passed out on the ground, and the crime scene door open. He rushes in and is about to enter before stopping and listening to Choko and Dorisu talking, trying to stop it, he rushes in, pushes Choko to the ground, but ends up accidentally killing her in this. He apologizes to Dorisu as he starts to frame the murder on her. During the trial, Kasai, Dorisu, and Julian out themselves, and Kazuko gets found out thanks to Chiroku’s hand.
Kasai feels terrible for never telling Choko the truth as usual, and the death isn’t good for Ayane either. Julian is fucked over with Kazuko’s death and relies on Brogan and Chiroku at this point.
Chapter 4
Motive: Body Swap
Death: Aki Matsumae and Brogan Boyle
Killer: Brogan Boyle
Brogan learns about the fact that Julian was thinking about killing himself, not realizing that he meant sometime other than this motive, so he goes to kill himself, accidentally killing Aki in the process. Aki slowly begins to die once she gets back into her own body. Brogan is discovered as the killer and the trial ends there, Mamoru saddened, and Julian broken.
Yuuto finds a picture of him, Kasai, and an unknown girl on it, he flips it over and a name is revealed to only him.
Chapter 5
Motive: Memories
Death: Unknown female
Killer: “Julian Tappe”
The motive in this case is the chance to acquire your memories before this game. Everything stays quiet and the kumas threaten to torture someone. Julian decides to go through with his plan but as he walks through the island to gather what he needs, he walks into the warehouse at the army base and sees an unknown female corpse stabbed through the chest as he drops the stuff and runs out to gather everyone. During the trial, Yuuto reveals that the dead student was Toshimi Miyashita, the true Ultimate Lucky Student. No one having any kind of lead, Julian gets voted as the killer for finding the body first, and instead of losing the trial, he actually gets executed.
Kasai spills his story to Ayane, telling her about his true past, followed by him finally heading to the castle and talking to Choko. He’s not forgiven, but not hated as Choko reminds him that if he really wants to remember the fallen, he has to live.
Chapter 6
Finale

The investigation chapter. The exploration teams are Kasai, Yuuto, and Mamoru; and Chiroku, Yuka, Ayane, and Mangka.
