A Mexican “witch” who reportedly had cartel ties was killed June 30 after trying to kidnap a baby from his parents to use him as a sacrifice.

The woman, identified as 33-year-old Maria Guadalupe R.M., allegedly wanted to use the child’s death as a sacrifice to the patron “saint” of cartels, Santa Muerte (“Saint Death”), the Daily Mail reported Monday, citing a Norte Digital.

Prior to the attempted kidnapping the woman told her nephew, the baby’s father, she believed a deceased family member had been reincarnated as the baby and allegedly broke into the Juarez home to get the baby.

However, the woman’s 23-year-old nephew, whose name is Carlos Gabriel C.R., reportedly killed the woman with a baseball bat.

“Two unidentified men, who are still on the run, were also in the home to aid in his son’s kidnapping, but they were scared off by neighbors who alerted the cops about what was going on,” the report continued, noting that Guadalupe allegedly practiced satanic worship.

“She also had ties to the notorious street gang Los Mexicles, the armed goons for the Sinaloa drug cartel, formerly run by drug kingpin El Chapo Guzman, who is imprisoned in the US, Mexican authorities confirm,” the Mail article said. The article also stated it was unclear if the baby was hurt during the incident.

Although his father turned himself in, he was later released once officials determined it was a case of self-defense.

In a 2013 article on the FBI’s website, Robert J. Bunker, Ph.D., wrote about the narcotics wars in Mexico:

One component entails the rise of the cartel and gang narcocultura (drug culture) variant of the Cult of Santa Muerte (literally translated as “Holy Death”).2 This variant of the cult promotes greater levels of criminality than the more mainstream and older forms of Santa Muerte worship. The Mail article noted the Catholic Church has denounced the “saint” called Santa Muerte.

In 2019, local and military forces in Mexico City carried out a huge raid and found tunnels and stash houses where cartels handled drugs and weapons and engaged in witchcraft, Breitbart News reported.

“During the raid, authorities found various shrines used for witchcraft rituals where human remains were apparently used as offerings or ornaments,” the outlet said.

ty for liking the art :D !! and the idea of transmasc emilia/o <33 ive actually drawn this idea before here for a slightly different au i did with nonbinary subaru, nonbinary reinhard, and transmasc emilio!! :o the transmasc emilia/o art i did more recently was most likely inspired by a joke a mutual made with me in a convo once where it was like. damn what if emilia just got top surgery. so then i drew that emilia drawing HAH. that outfit is also her outfit from the orchestra rezero thing that happened recently?? like emilia was assigned as conductor so she had the Best Suit ever:

but anyway back to transmasc emilia/o i do find the idea super interesting. i think both transfem emilia and transmasc emilio would very fun in different ways especially when a reoccurring part of emilia/o's story is being talked over, controlled, manipulated, hunted down, made out to be a monster or connected to other people (like the whole satella thing or how emilia/o intermingles with things out of their control with the witch cult, roswaal, puck, subaru, etc).

i think it's an unfortunately relatable thing when viewed through a queer lens as emilia/o is an Other to the whole world. i also think it's really interesting bc of satella adding another layer to it. transfem emilia would be struggling similar to you know, canon cis emilia with the complexities of girlhood and such especially when your very appearance looks like Fantasy World Satan and your appearance is smth youre insecure about (and smth that is in the contract she has with puck). though i think with transfem emilia its a slightly different flavor of "i am a girl and its really difficult and im fighting against the entire world to be Me but also i am far happier as a girl because thats Me". you know?

transmasc emilio i think would be like. not only is calling him satella/comparing him to satella like this Terrible thing bc you know, emilio once again getting scapegoated for shit that aint his fault at all and made out to be a monster for No Reason, but also thatd be like misgendering emilio at the same time. youre like the Girl that Ruined the World. it's a special kind of agony on multiple fronts ;-;;;;;

palisade 33/34 spoilers

the last two episodes have me thinking about gur sevraq once again as i often do. perennial's ability to see other timelines clarifies something that has always been present about her- she's been seeing everything, so it makes sense that it extends to other futures and pasts- and it also clarifies some things we've heard in road to palisade and this season. i think we've read the beginning of road to palisade 20's intro as gur replaying his death, but looking at it now:

I’m going to die — falling forward — slipping — no — I hate you — it’s fine — afraid you took it — Valence will handle it — motion — time itself — Perennial — her melody — Perennial — you’ve seen all this — her eye — Perennial — I can’t fix — I can’t — don’t show me — there’s too much —

that last part certainly sounds like being shown other timelines like figure is seeing. it also makes it clear that perennial has been communicating with gur again for a while, which he mentioned she wasn't doing back in the witch in glass intros. (i suspect it's also what austin meant in a recent gathering information that there are ways for perfect imperfect to exist even if the stellar combustor went off- perennial has presumably seen all possible endings of the combustor situation)

all of this has got me thinking again about something i've been wondering since the end of partizan, which is...what is the endgame supposed to be for gur here? perennial is notorious for going off on her whims and doing things to keep herself amused, but it's very clear this season she has a goal in mind and it's ending the cycle of history. gur's direct purpose here seems to be that perennial wants him in position to explain her motives to/manipulate people she thinks can be a part of lasting change (clem and now figure). but frankly if she thought clem was a very funny clown in her circus i think she must also think that about gur, and it kind of seems like she spent years turning gur into a person who would completely understand her. if you were a being who could see many possible timelines and wanted a permanent ending, and had limited contact and communication with others from your distant spot at the center of the galaxy, you would perhaps get someone to understand you by sending them to follow a god of finality and liberation, making them steal the divine that shows you many possible futures, and then trapping them with only one person. im not sure if perennial could or would manipulate the current evil gur puppet situation into happening but the parallel there to the principality seeing perennial as satan is also apparent- being turned into a idea that represents something you're not.

and i have no idea if perennial has an end goal there beyond "gur gets me and can now help bring this to a close." if i thought divines worked in a way where they need heirs i would say perennial wants gur to be The Next Her, but i don't really think it's like that. and for what it is worth it seems gur has fully embraced this role she has for them, if only because they don't seem to have much choice. the dice have absolutely been working against him (to a comical level) but even during the downtime he was around i was pretty struck by the fact that he didn't ask figure to tell everyone he was present or ask for updates on anyone- he's mostly just been focused on what figure should be doing for millennium break and working against the principality. which is classic gur sevraq, but also seems to say something about where they are at right now.

in conclusion gur is a blorbo to perennial like they are to all of us and she's wacking them against a wall and seeing what happens. uh. okay that's not the full conclusion but you see what i mean here

⊱ those are first thoughts Levi had when he discovered that you're a witch, second thoughts were like "alright, definitely not pissing them off and not going out of my room untill exchange program is over" do I really need to mention he HAD to get out at some point?

⊱ at first he's very distant from you, not only he's scared of socializing but he's also not good at it, so he doesn't want to accidentally piss you off and experience witch's wrath

⊱ although as the time pass and both of you warm up to each other, he starts seeing you as character from that one anime with way too long name where main character was a witch!

⊱ whenever you practice any witchcraft while he's around, he'll get excited saying how he saw the exact same or similiar enough spell in anime

"OMG!! You're just like the main character from [insert way too long anime name] while they were casting spell to kill the final boss blocking their way!"

⊱ he's too scared to help you with anything though... so I'm afraid you'd have to ask one of his other brothers

⊱ Satan definitely figured out by himself that you're a witch, be it because of reek of magic or maybe cards he saw peeking out of your bag

⊱ definitely knows some spells that you don't and uses it asking you for many favors which depend on your relationship

⊱ he'll either ask you to pull a prank on his eldest brother or something like that or will tease you asking for passionate kiss if you're together

I haven't created an intro post for everyone but for the sake of doing this tag properly (and also, I really enjoy researching the suitable names for my original characters and then talking for eons about them, hehe).

BTW, I will not include characters such as Wukong or Loki since 1) I haven't created them, they're based on/inspired by/alternative versions of already existing deities and folklore legends and 2) meaning of their names has already been explained or is still being speculated on (and you can research this in the libraries or on the Internet).

Márgerdra - from the Old Norse 'marr' ( 1) 'a sea', 'a ocean', 'a lake', 2) 'a horse') and 'garðr' ('enclosure', 'protection'), it was also a name of a giantess/sorceress in the saga of Hjálmþér and Olvir

Kogar - no meaning, a made up word, I went with a sound that seemed the most cool to me

Udra - from Lithuanian 'ūdra' = 'an otter'

Lešij - a name of a Slavic forest demon/entity, = 'a leshy'

Meluzína - from the Slovak 'meluzína' = 'a howling/wailing wind'

Krabat - a name of a Sorbian folk hero, there's also a novel version of Krabat where a boy of the same name becomes a disciple of a warlock and is capable of transforming into a raven

Tiru - a made up name, no meaning, though a name of a real doggo inspired it

The Merchant - well, that's it, he's literally a merchant. Or is he?

Faust - a name of an alchemist Johann Georg Faust who's (in)famous for making a deal with the Devil thus selling his soul

Ivan - a name common in Slavic languages (I've heard some people translate it as 'John' but it's not the same name, though the ethymology is quite similar => comes from the greek Ioannes)

Zmej Milošovič - zmej/zmij (English version 'zmei') is a type of a Slavic dragon/snake (or a hybrid of those two, depends on the story), Milošovič can be used either as a surname (not at all that common), but it can also be translated as 'a son of Miloš (Milosh)'

Barbora - a Slovak, Czech and Lithuanian version of Barbara, named after a witch who was said to ride a hellish dog (literal Satan) at midnight

Kmotra - from a Slovak 'kmotra' = 'godmother', a nickname for Death Ulfrika gave her when she was a child

Krcho - from a Czech word 'krchov' = 'churchyard, graveyard'

Conservative Christians are accusing Taylor Swift of promoting Satanism and witchcraft on her Eras world tour.

Yep, you read that correctly. We're not making this up.

The bizarre movement has cherry-picked a bit of theatrical stagecraft from Swift's Eras tour and are ranting about it on social media.

They seem to think the 33-year-old pop star is actually trying to promote naughty stuff through her actions on stage

One person took to Twitter to slam Swift and her witchy ways.

They wrote: "Never liked Taylor Swift, but now I definitely have a reason to. [I] just saw a video of her witchcraft/ritual performance on someone's Insta story. Nope! Get that evil out of here," before adding: “Believers should not listen to this."But before it gets better, it gets worse. There was one more bizarre rant that is doing the rounds.

In a now-viral clip on TikTok, one Christian woman takes Swift's stage performance a little too seriously.

"This is Taylor Swift's song 'Willow' where she is a witch during rituals," the woman said.

"The first video you saw was taken by a fan the other night at the concert and he says, 'yes, summon the demons b***h!' The worst part is that [Swift] commented twice [on the video]. [Swift] said: 'This is the new 'one, two, three, let’s go b***h'," the woman explained.

"So what she’s saying is 'summon the demons' is the new crowd chant that they all say when she does his witchcraft ritual.

The person added: "Then she commented laughing emojis."

Riiiight. Anyway, it somehow gets even more bonkers.

The rant continues with a bit on how people 'keep saying stop shoving in Christianity down our throats' when huge artists are 'shoving witchcraft and rituals, crystals, astrology and all that down our throats'.

She then went way off the deep end, giving her explanation as to why people seem to hate Christianity so much.

"It’s because the demons get angry every time you mention God. Every time you mention Jesus they start foaming at the mouth. They start screaming and they start manifesting demons,” she said.

The woman then added: The demons don’t want to hear about Jesus. That’s the only name they’re afraid of. That’s the only name they have to answer to.That’s the only name that sends them to hell."

Goodness gracious, talk about taking it too far.

Admittedly, however, Swift has previously said her song ‘Willow’ 'sounds like casting a spell to make someone fall in love with you'.

She then riffed off that notion, putting out several several witch remixes of 'Willow'.

Also, in her song 'Mad Woman' from 2020's Folklore, Swift sings: "Women like hunting witches too. Doing your dirtiest work for you."

She also referenced witch hunts on her 2017 album Reputation.

"They’re burning all the witches, even if you aren’t one," she sings in the song 'I Did Something Bad'.

What these Conservative Christians seem to have missed is the more modern meaning of 'witch'.

The word is now used as a symbol of feminism and for strong and unapologetic women, as per Psychsex.

It has also become synonymous with the Cottagecore aesthetic, which you'll find all over Etsy and Pinterest.

It's also the 'era' from which Swift's twin 2020 albums Evermore and Folklore draws inspiration from.

So, yeah, perhaps someone needs to show these religious folk another one of her songs, entitled ‘You Need To Calm Down’.

What is Sufism?

Sufism is the practice of purifying one's heart and renouncing the material world in order to get closer to God, a well-established tradition within Islam (Sodiq, 2007). According to Rudiger Seesemann, Sufism is a sect of Islam that animates its soul. Sufism is normally associated with mystical and spiritual connotations, focusing on the inward search for God and spiritual growth (2010). It emphasizes the personal experience of the divine and the development of a closer relationship with God through practices such as meditation, chanting, and contemplation. Sufism aims to purify the heart and achieve a state of spiritual enlightenment or closeness to God, often expressed through poetry, music, and devotion to a spiritual guide or teacher (Cheikh/Sheikh). Sufis believe in the importance of love, compassion, and tolerance as essential elements of their spiritual journey. Sufism is practiced most throughout North and West Africa (Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, Morocco, and Senegal) and less in the Middle East. Welch (2018) recognizes Seesemann’s duality of Sufism into two main categories: how one should behave towards God and how one should interact with people, whether Muslim or not (2010). Sufi teachers emphasize the need to internalize the components of the religion before one can align their external and internal attitudes. Sufi masters trained students who then spread these teachings to others in their villages. In Senegal, Sufism can be described as the importance placed on the “spiritual education of disciples” as those following Tariqas (or the path) aim to perfect their religion (Edwin, 2009). This may be due to the Sufi principle of “‘He who does not have a Shaykh will have Satan for a guide” (Edwin, 2009). It is said that in Senegalese society, there are many whom “...prefers to practice Islam through consultations of and affiliations to maraboutic or Islamic organizations.” (Edwin, 2009). An example of an esoteric practice in Senegal would be that of the gris-gris, amulets (Gemmeke, 2009). Other practices include dream interpretations, prayer sessions, numerology, astrology, healing, protection, divine sand-writing, identifying witches, fighting djinn, and casting spells. The above services may be called ‘maraboutage’ although there “appears to be no universally accepted local or regional term that covers all of the kinds of knowledge and practices“ (Gemmeke, 2009). Among the majority, there stands a small group of Muslims referred to as “Ibadu Muslims” in Senegal who do not associate themselves with brothers or having spiritual guides (Edwin, 2009). This group follows the Quran and the Sunna, in which they try their best to emulate the way of life of the Prophet Muhammad; the only human to have ever perfected Islam on Earth (Edwin, 2009).
