yo im aware that theres some absolutely wild nonsense going in the top/bottom narusasu discourse side of tumblr so im here to make my contribution considering the funniest case scenario i can think of:

theyre both bottoms. i dont have like. solid canonical proof of that (because no one does its all subjective) but... if i hd to make a serious case id say that theyre both kinda needy for the other.

on one hand youve got the obvious "i chased and pined for you till the end of the world" naruto.

on the other youve got "i can never be truly completely alone and detached from this world until i kill you" sasuke. in this case its kind of the opposite in a more "i dont show it but you make me care so much so deeply" rather than "i need you so bad"

but thats kinda stereotypical right. whatever. sasuke is very heroine coded i mean have you seen the fanservice-y way they draw him sometimes. tits out. again this is stereotypical but i find it compelling

naruto is good at swallowing things. remember the frog and the raven? yeah me too. i remember. i wonder if can fit thing things inside his a-

anyway canon evidence is not even the reason i made this post i did it because of the way i think they accidentally became bottoms.

i think after vote2 and all that pining was over and they seriously started contemplating their relationship as potentially romantic and sexual they both individually considered if it would be awkward to have sex as theyre both men.

im thinking sasuke was wholy okay with the idea of bottoming from the start because he thinks to himself that naruto is probably too much of a pussy to agree to do it, so hed be fine w it.

meanwhile naruto has several emotional crises of masculinity after considering that sasuke may want to be the top and instead of concluding that they can just switch, like a normal person, he overcomes gender stereotype stigma all by himself thinking that it doenst make him any less of a man and that he would really like it because its sasuke. he wouldn't disliked being topped if the top in question is sasuke.

this is all ends in them finally starting a relationship and hilariously waiting for the other to make a move for about an awkward minute. and then

THE PLOT: I believe this is one of the best plots I have seen in awhile, the premise is good but I jumped straight to the third chapter (because I - personally - am not a very patient person to read long foreplay scenes until we get to the part where the story gets going). It has a traditional plot and doesn't have a huge climax built around the main, child, character. It might feel a little numb if you are into heart wrecking plot twists.

REVIEW: ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ (8/10).

GRAMMAR & COHESION: It is a very coherent story, although some parts we feel like missing something because the story's pace is a fast type. I can't tell for certain if the author's first language is English but based on my own "English is not my first language" writing, I think they might be, for some errors I still make even nowadays.

REVIEW: ☆☆☆☆☆☆ (6/10).

FORMATTING: Even if the grammar might be a little out of place, the story is well formatted, the paragraphs well defined and DEFINITELY a YES if you love stories where there are little to no massive paragraphs with direct dialogue mixed into it. Everything is well separated and easy to read.

REVIEW: ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ (9/10).

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: Do you know what is rarer than dancing with a watermelon in you head? Finding a story where Mikoto is the bitch and Fugaku is a good father; now this is the one in a million finding I intend to keep close to my heart. After everything Mikoto also had a redemption of sorts, even though it isn't explicitly showed + the conflict of Naruto's lost making him be thoughtful of Mikoto even when she is putting him through hell hit too close to home for me lol.

Why do you think NS is more in character as opposed to SN?

Well it's more how the fandoms portray them. I generally am not a fan of SN portrayal of Naruto and Sasuke, eventhough NS doesn't always hit the mark either. But much more often than the former. I have a memory that when I got into Naruto fandom, most fanarts for them were sasunaru. And I found them a bit odd. The first time I saw narusasu I was like "this feels more real" and I didn't even know it was "narusasu" until I read from the artist description.

SN writes Sasuke as the more jealous one, when in canon it's Naruto.

SN writes Sasuke as the one relentlessly pursuing Naruto, when in canon it's the other way around.

Some SN write Sasuke as a bumbling dork with a crush around Naruto when it's the other way around.

Naruto is also not delicate or demure like SN often portray him.

I also don't like when 90% of them change their facial features and such to make them fit stereotypical seme and uke roles. One way is how they somehow give Sasuke thicker eyebrows and slimmer ones for Naruto, like it's so obvious but in the end it makes them not look like themselves.

I have seen couple SN arts that are okay. But most of them just don't feel Kishimoto's Naruto and Sasuke to me.

I also use NS initials myself because Kishi uses NS.

this is gonna sound so weird but when i first watched naruto years ago i had a feeling that sasuke was slightly taller than naruto to balance them out in the relationship. sasuke takes on the more fem role in the story and symbolism, and if he was shorter or visibly much smaller i feel like people would exaggerate that dynamic. since one of the biggest reason why sns is so appealing is because they are equals

That's interesting, I always thought that Sasuke was designed that way because he's the prodigy rival and Naruto is the underdog so Kishimoto made Sasuke taller, smarter, stronger and more attractive to make the rivalry also "visual" for the readers.

It's not like that stopped sasunaru and narusasu shippers from changing how Naruto and Sasuke actually look in canon, they love the uwu uke and the dominant huge seme dynamic and it sucks because personally, as a narusasu truther, I LOVE the fact that Sasuke is slightly taller than Naruto but Naruto is still the posessive one, damned be the twinks, go top your taller strong boyfriend and make him whimper all night!!!

beautiful year for adachi rei & teto enjoyers in my opinion... tetos synthv release really caused such a huge uptick in teto originals & rei is still riding off of that heat abnormal high lol its been wonderful to witness

i promise you i'm surprised only one project voltage song made the list too! i guess i really only enjoyed inabakumori's song. jin's song is in here in spirit too (trans miku + eevee... perfection) but ultimately i'm not the hugest fan of the song itself (it is sooo cute though)

so many songs under two minutes long So so so sad this isn't healthy for them. you have to stop. this is a phenomenon happening across music in general and not specific to vocaloid whatsoever but i think its funniest to blame this on surii

quite a few xx/subeana styled songs made the list this year just bc i got really into exploring the genre!! and my youtube recommendations helped out a lot lol. keeping in true spirit with the genre though a number of them have since been unlisted

i included kyoufuu all back in the introductory paragraph but excluded it from my actual listing and this was not a mistake. i have sadly grown somewhat sick of it. such is the way with immense popularity... it really is a cute song but oh my god is yukopi getting so much damn mileage out of it

iyowa really knocked it out of the ballpark earlier this year with babel & actress those are both soooo so so good. actress in of itself is just a really well executed narrative whereas babel is such a clever song celebrating teto's synthv release (it being a duet between her synthv & utau banks, her drills quite literally as an inverted tower of babel, babel because her synthv bank allows her to sing in multiple languages... a slight copycat of a cynosure madonna!!!)

but mannn synthv releasing Both teto & gumi banks this year, not to mention the kafu announcement??? insane. its like a vocalsynth monopoly up in here

RAMBLING SECTION SOLELY FOR AKOTOBA: what a lovely lovely lovely song. part of its charm for me is the fact that, being a haraguchi song, you go into it expecting it to veer wildly off course or incorporate some sort of bizzare musical twist; but the twist is that there is no twist! its instead just this really pure & beautiful build up to a vibrant & joyful chorus, no tricks. its so celebratory sounding!! & i find it charming how its still obviously a haraguchi song, complete with his signature strangeness (the scream sfx), but tempered into something sooo sweet. the proseka note haraguchi wrote for the song too really melts my heart; i know it was meant to be somewhat humorous but i find something so so so beautiful in the concept of a song made for the first time in a world where music has all but virtually disappeared... im glad that miku + teto + haraguchi are all still alive and well in the year 3023 lol. genius move to have the title be a play on ai kotoba too. genuinely cannot help but break into a wide smile whenever i listen to this song

now with all my praise for haraguchi out of the way, my actual favorite producer of this year has to be.... yukuewat! i found them beginning of january and have been in love ever since. my favorite songs of theirs weren't released in 2023, so they make scant appearances on this list, but they were one of the producers i listened to the most this past year! their tuning is perfection to me, i feel like they occupy this really intrinsic-to-vocalsynth niche where their tuning is both robotic AND emotional; having all the harsh consonants and precisce diction you can only get from a vocalsynth but arrested with emotions that feel organic, despite sounding distinctly nonhuman. that is what vocalsynth is all about to me!!! not to mention their style is both addictively catchy & unique, i don't think i can name another musician off the top of my head who makes music like they do. theyre a huge huge favorite of mine, and with their gradually rising popularity, i hope more ppl come to recognize them soon!!!

and with all that said too, apparently according to youtube music my top artist for 2023 was not yukuewat but asanuko!!! i guess i listened to the speaker song more than i realized lol

The simp-ification of Kaisagi is my 13th reason, I'm not even gonna lie chief. Why, whyyy are most Kiis fics like that. Why is Isagi always the poor submissive uke who cries and begs, like, have you seen THEM?? Are y'all sure that any of them would be screaming and crying?? (You brought up two ships that I absolutely despise too, NaruHina and SasuSaku. I barely consider them canon since it's just a poor attempt of catering to heteronormativity. To me they don't even exist. Yes, I do dislike Kainess, but not this much, at least it makes sense somehow. But Kishimoto straight up decided to pull these two ships out of his sorry ass lmfao) I sure would love to say that I miss Naruto, but then I end up remembering that shitty ending and the nostalgia fades… I do really miss its villains though!

Facts, sister.

I have never really understood the attraction in one person of a pairing being absolutely down bad for the other- like, is it really fun when it's so one sided?

In some fics, you can just see the author bias, like its so blatant- one partner is absolutely on their knees for the other.

(Although, I don't exactly mind if it's a pwp, iykwim, it's okay if that's Isagi's kink, no kinkshaming here ;p

Is it unrealistic? Possibly.

Is it kinda hot? Yes)

What really grinds my gears are the character driven fics in which none of them are actually in character.

I see this a lot in Victuuri fics too- some make Yuuri a total BAMF Badass and Victor's completely down bad for him- to the point that Victor's always the one apologising, no matter if Yuuri is in the wrong too.

Kaiser and his everything- character style, arc, personality- is so delicious, I just wanna gobble him up lol

If only everyone could win in a football match... (Ego make it happen please)

NaruHina and SasuSaku... I could rant about these two ships and the travesty that was the ending all day.

Hinata and Sakura and their obsession over those two was so pathetic. The fact that the boys were given to them as reward for persevering in their love makes me want to kill something. And everything after the war arc ended was a way rapidly drive off all the fans of the series.

Like, even if you somehow look past their shitty marriages of convenience and the sheer insult that was The Last, what the fuck was that Hokage Inauguration episode. The sheer anger I feel at the thought of that episode and the fact that people defend that bullshit is going to make me end up at the therapist. Naruto not getting to attend his own inauguration as Hokage was a garbage joke and nothing and no one will ever convince me otherwise.

Sasuke and Naruto deserved to end up together- and no, them being spirit brothers is a garbage reason to not ship them because it's not even fucking true. Transmigration and reincarnation are not synonyms, people.

Personally, I think Kishimoto also wanted them to end up together, but he wasn't allowed to do that. The official art is so couple-y, it's not even subtle. To say nothing of what he wrote in his own series.

Indeed KaiNess makes a hell of a lot more sense then SasuSaku and NaruHina. Atleast Kaiser and Ness are friends- toxic yes, but still friends.
