Saché ~ shy handmaiden of Amidala and heroine of the Naboo Resistance

Saché, Sashah Adova, served as one of the handmaidens of Amidala, Queen of Naboo. She started as shy girl, who became one of the bravest people of Naboo.

During the Invasion of Naboo, Saché and Yané remained behind as her sovereign and the other handmaidens fled Naboo. Whilst she remained on Naboo, Saché carried messages for a resistance group until she was caught by droids and subject to interrogation by the Trade Federation. It was symbolised on the painting by various elemements. She holds datapad. There are: sword of Naboo Royal Security Forces, Naboo royal pistol, Trade Federation fleet and droids, Gungan energy shield, blue boomer and N-1 starfighter)

She was also a wise person, which is symbolised by a statue of Naboo philosophers.

The Royal Security Forces repaid Saché's bravery with loyalty second only to Amidala. When Amidala's term as queen ended, Saché was accepted into the planetary legislative assembly. She grew to be a wise person, which is symbolised by a statue of Naboo philosophers behind the lady.

Saché also moved into a home with Yané, who is shown at globe-hologram. Later, they became married.

Saché became an influential member of Queen Réillata's government and, when Governor Sio Bibble finally retired following Amidala's death, Saché was the favorite to succeed him. However, under self-proclaimed Galactic Emperor, the election was suspended. It did not stop her to fight what was right.

The painter decided to shown her in a elegant dress, which is said that she wore during the Imperial War and with the Royal Palace in the background and Naboo royal crest on the column on the right.

Chase Wilsorr was the rebel soldier who walked between an arguing Han and Leia, and he was not having a good time when that happened. Overeager and clumsy, after failing Alliance basic training multiple times and being rejected from every other branch of the Alliance, he was a kitchen worker and runner on Echo Base. He didn’t appreciate how essential such support staff was, and he yearned to be a rebel hero. He believed in the self help novel Be Your Best Self, which was basically about self confidence and manifestation. He was an extremely skilled runner, and was familiar with all parts of Echo Base, including tunnels that were created during the construction process but were no longer used. 

He had a crush on the tauntaun handler Jordan Smythe and arranged his schedule to ensure that he would be the one delivering him caf. Despite Jordan flirting with him, he was too anxious to show reciprocation. During the evacuation of Echo Base, Chase used his knowledge of the base’s layout to save medical staff from a cave in. Then, he found Jordan who refused to leave his favorite tauntaun, Sunshine, behind. Together, they rode through the tunnels of Echo Base to reach the last evacuation transport. Upon boarding the transport, Jordan kissed Chase.

Bonus, he also had a crush on Han Solo which only stoked his anger about all the cool hero stuff Han got to do and how annoying his will-they-won’t-they thing with Leia was.

Saché, born Sashah Adova, was the youngest of Queen Amidala’s handmaidens, recruited at only 12 years old. Her official role was that of page, where she could observe the happenings of the palace. Saché was often overlooked, and even as she became an adult she was often quiet and bottled up her feelings. When Padmé and her handmaidens escaped Naboo, Saché and Yané were left behind. They were put into internment camps with the rest of Naboo’s government. This forced confinement caused Saché and Yané to realize that their awkward feelings were mutual attraction. Caught transporting messages amongst the Naboo Royal Guard, she was tortured by the Trade Federation, giving her scars she would carry for the rest of her life.

After Pamdé’s term as queen, she joined Naboo’s legislative assembly. She also married Yané, and they lived in a large house with the children Yané would foster. When Sio Bibble retired as governor at the end of the Clone Wars, Saché was expected to succeed her. However, the new Emperor Palpatine appointed Quash Penaka as Moff, replacing most of the existing Naboo government. Unlike her wife, Saché joined the Amidalans, a group of Naboo led by Sabé who sought to avenge Padmé’s death. With the rest of the handmaidens, she held her own for a time in combat against Darth Vader. Despite the decimation of the group, Saché managed to survive, and when Sabé became an operative for Vader (long story), she joined her handmaidens once more to save Sabé. When Sabé was captured by Jul Tambor, the handmaidens allied themselves with Vader. When Vader and Sly Moore tried to turn them to the side of the Empire, they were unmoved. They managed to free Sabé, but she refused to leave with them and returned to Vader’s side. Crushed, Saché returned to her wife and tried to continue to live.

saché (born sashah adova) served as a handmaiden and page for queen amidala of naboo. as the youngest and smallest of the group, she used her youth and size to blend in and perform covert missions. during the battle of naboo, saché stayed behind to work with the resistance against the occupation. she delivered messages throughout the camp to aid the resistance, but was eventually caught and tortured by the trade federation. she survived the ordeal without revealing any information. 

following amidala’s final term as queen, saché was elected to the naboo planetary legislative assembly. she and yané, a fellow handmaiden and saché’s romantic partner, began living together.

There were five of them altogether, including Tsabin, who already stood behind the throne. Panaka presented them to the Queen with minimal flourish at the end of the second week of her reign. They each bowed politely when he put them forward, and Amidala acknowledged them with an identical nod. Her face was painted for full court, and her elaborate headpiece extended from her head in both directions. She was carefully impersonal, a mystery in voluminous green. Panaka was decently sure she hadn’t actually moved in several hours, but there was no indication that her attention was flagging.

It had been a long day with the regional representatives—there was a projected labor shortage for this year’s grain harvest, and debate was split over whether to bring in offworlders to help with the work or to simply buy food from off planet and let the grain become next season’s fertilizer—and they were all eager to wrap up. Still, Amidala sat straightbacked on her throne and looked each girl full in the face as Panaka introduced them.

“Rabene Tonsort, gifted artist and actress.” Rabene’s placid expression indicated there was a great deal Panaka left out of her biography. “Eirtama Ballory, scientist and engineer; Suyan Higin, seamstress and maker; and Sashah Adova—”

Panaka trailed off as Sashah bowed, unable to quantify why exactly he thought the twelve-year-old was qualified for this, even though there was no doubt in his mind that she was. Amidala caught his pause and risked half a smile, more emotion than she usually showed in public.

“Thank you, Captain,” she said, as though the introductions had been completed without incident. “You have done a remarkable job in a short time to find such excellent candidates.”

“It is my privilege,” Panaka said, bowing.

���We will go up to the suite and talk further,” Amidala continued, now speaking directly to the girls. “There are a few things we need to discuss.”

Panaka ground his teeth. Amidala had been exceptionally firm about not allowing guards into the suite without a very good reason, and he had a feeling she would shut him out of the coming conversation quite deliberately.

The Queen rose and led the way upstairs. The girls followed her into her rooms, and Tsabin shut the door, doing her best not to smile at Panaka’s expression. In the sitting room, Amidala indicated that they should all sit down, and then she perched on a chair by the hearth and pulled her headpiece off. Tsabin was standing next to her before she’d finished extricating herself from all the pins, and accepted the handoff seamlessly.

“Just put it on the table for now,” Amidala said. Tsabin did, and took her seat again. Padmé took a moment to shake her hair out and look at the girls Panaka had chosen. They were all physically similar to her, except Eirtama, who was blonde, and they all looked politely interested. Even Sashah wasn’t cowed by the apartment. Padmé was impressed.

“My name is Padmé,” she said, by way of introduction. She wanted them to understand. “I imagine Captain Panaka has explained the dangerous aspects of this position well enough, but I am hoping for something else in addition to bodyguards.”

“It’s not an addition,” Sashah said. She had a dreamy voice. “It’s an expansion.”

“Indeed,” Padmé said. “But it’s also a collaboration. Panaka selected each of you because you have talents that I do

not. I want to take that beginning and make us into something even stronger.”

“Not just six parts,” Suyan said. “You want us to gain each other’s skills.”

“He hired me to teach you how to cheat,” Rabene said. She spoke with such candor that Padmé suspected she was keeping secrets. That was all right for now, at least. Padmé had plenty of secrets of her own. “Apparently he doesn’t think you are deceitful enough on your own, but I’m starting to think he’s underestimated you.”

Padmé smiled demurely. This was going better than she had expected. Leaving the selection up to Panaka had run the risk of him picking girls who were talented and loyal, but who weren’t compatible with her particular style and goals. Somehow, both captain and Queen had gotten what they wanted: a group of handmaidens who could, hopefully, evolve into a unit to be reckoned with. Assuming, of course, their personalities were cohesive. There was a difference between ambition and commitment, and wanting to serve was not the same as being part of the whole.

“Padmé and I have already started combat training together,” Tsabin said. “And I’ve been teaching her breathing exercises, which help control physical reactions.”

Eirtama leaned forward and picked up the headpiece. Apparently she was the type who always wanted to be doing something with her hands.

“Are they all like this?” she asked, turning the piece over to examine the part that attached to Padmé’s head.

“So large?” Padmé replied.

“So stiff and ungainly,” she clarified. “Is this an original or a replica of a historical piece? It must be super uncomfortable.”

“It is,” Padmé said. “An original and uncomfortable, I mean.”

“I can design one that looks exactly the same and weighs half as much,” Eirtama said. “No one will know the difference except for us.”

“Let me see that,” Suyan said, holding out her hands. Eirtama passed the headpiece over without hesitation. “Oh, yes, we can improve this. I think it was made before Karlini silk was imported in bulk, and there’s no reason we can’t duplicate it in a more wearable style. This one can go in a museum or something.”

“We’ll look at your dresses as well.” Eirtama examined the green gown Padmé wore with a critical eye. Suyan nodded. “That at least looks like it was made with modern materials, but we’ll see if we can’t make some modifications for comfort and functionality.”

Tsabin turned expectantly to Sashah, who hadn’t saidnanything indicating why Panaka had chosen her yet. Padmé looked at her curiously, too.

“The captain thinks we work for him,” Sashah said. “He thinks of us as an extension of the Royal Security Forces. He doesn’t understand what you want from us. And he has something on Rabene that he thinks he can use to control her.”

That was not a surprise. Rabene shrugged.

“When he said ‘artist and actress,’ what he meant was that I forge classic art pieces and then convince offworlders to buy them as originals.” Rabene buried a snicker. “He left out the part where I am also an accomplished musician, though. I just had to pick something at school, before they kicked me out, and I picked—”

“Crime?” Tsabin was openly laughing now. Suyan looked vaguely scandalized, but even she was smiling.

“I picked music because I’d never used it unconventionally,” said Rabene deliberately.

“Of course,” Tsabin said.

“Did he threaten you?” Padmé asked. She would not stand for that.

“Not in so many words,” Rabene said. It didn’t sound like Panaka had her worried about anything. “The school didn’t press charges after they caught me, and none of the offworlders know better. He did imply he could make it difficult for me if I said no.”

“I will tell him that’s inappropriate,” Padmé promised.

“I don’t think you should,” Rabene said. “Not yet, anyway.”

The six of them sat there, digesting what that meant.

“Why does he think it’s so dangerous?” Suyan said. “There hasn’t been an attack, direct or otherwise, on a Naboo monarch in decades. You’re brilliant, but so was Sanandrassa, in her own way. So was everyone who has been queen. What does he think is coming?”

“Honestly, I think he’s just paranoid,” Padmé said. “He was a clerk in the legislature when he was young, and then

he went into security instead of art. I know he has a passing acquaintance with Senator Palpatine, so he probably knows more about offworld politics than most other guards. I think it started as just a hunch.”

“And now?” Eirtama asked.

“I’m not sure.” Padmé hesitated. “We’re facing a labor shortage for the harvest, which is nothing new. Debate usually goes back and forth on which solution to take, and this time the offworld buyer faction seems to be the strongest, probably because Sanandrassa supported isolationism during her reign and I’ve had only two weeks to start changing things. The Galactic Senate is trying to change some taxation laws, and Naboo would definitely be affected by that if anything passes. But there’s no way to tell yet.”

“So it’s paranoia with a good direction,” Rabene said.

“I don’t want it to get out of control,” Padmé said. “I want to be ready for anything, of course, but I don’t want to be so afraid of my own shadow that I give up the parts of me that want to stay idealistic and hopeful. That’s why I wanted to be queen, really. To show that Naboo can be strong in its own traditions and a part of the galactic community.”

“We’ll be your shadow,” said Sashah.

Padmé looked at each of them in turn. As with Tsabin, she had already decided she was going to trust them. They had been honest with her, and they had agreed to Panaka’s original terms, which included a significant confidentiality promise. They’d all given and gained to get here, to this room in the palace where they could plan the future for millions at a time, and that was common ground to start from, at the very least. When Padmé met Tsabin’s eyes, the handmaiden nodded once.

“In that case, I think there are some preliminary precautions we can take,” Rabene said. “I think we ought to have new names. We’re all keeping secrets from our families, and everyone else on the planet, and I am slightly notorious, after all.”

“Do you have any suggestions?” Padmé asked.

“You had to give up Padmé,” Tsabin said. “What if we all chose names that sounded similar to that?”

“That would be perfect,” Rabene said. “I guarantee you that most people will hear that many ehs in a row and literally never be able to remember how many of us there are, let alone who is who.”

Eirtama clearly had objections to giving up her name but said nothing. Padmé leaned forward.

“You are allowed to disagree with me in private, you know,” she said. “Especially when we’re brainstorming ideas.”

“I like my name,” Eirtama said after a brief silence. “I was going to make it famous someday, you know? Building things or at least fixing them. I don’t want to give it up.”

“It has to be all of us or none, or it won’t work,” Rabene said. “And you can make your name famous after, if you really wanted to.”

“I—” Eirtama hesitated again.

“It’s very strange, to hear someone call you by a new name,” Padmé said. “It took me a while to get used to. I didn’t have a choice, so I won’t make yours for you.”

“The point is to be invisible,” Sashah said. “If you want to be famous, this isn’t the job for you.”

Eirtama straightened up at the critique, like she had been issued a direct challenge.

“I can do both,” she insisted. She slumped in acceptance, not quite defeat. “But you’re right about waiting. I won’t be the youngest to do anything, I guess, but I can still be the best.”

It was clear Eirtama wasn’t thrilled, but the first obstacle had been crossed.

“When you’re in makeup, we should always call you Your Highness,” Suyan suggested, clearing her throat to change the subject. Sashah looked at her and then quickly averted her eyes. “That will help establish boundaries and let us know when we’re allowed to argue about things. Even if we’re alone.”

“We’ll all wear the makeup at some point, I think,” Tsabin said. “Even if it’s only for practice.”

“Whoever wears the face gets the title,” Eirtama said. She seemed determined to help make decisions, if only to make sure they were the ones she agreed with. It was better than nothing. “And we’ll practice not being shocked if some palace page addresses us in company.”

“Speaking of pages,” Sashah said. “I think I should be one. You’ll need someone who can run errands and not be suspicious because people see her all the time. I’m the smallest and the least likely to be the Queen. I’m the best choice.”

Padmé turned over all the suggestions in her head. They were coming together better than she could have hoped, and they were only getting started.

“I think Padmé should be a page, too,” Rabene said.

“How would that work?” Tsabin asked.

“If there’s magically another girl around the Queen, someone might notice,” Rabene said. “People should get used

to seeing her. No one pays attention to pages.”

“I think that’s a direct contradiction,” Tsabin said. “But I also think you’re right.”

Panaka would never allow it. The idea of Padmé wandering around Theed as herself would push the captain too far. She was sure of it. But perhaps he would understand why that role would be a good one for her to play inside the palace walls. He was a reasonable person, and Rabene’s logic was sound.

“We’ll ease him into it,” Sashah said, discerning the problem. “And I’ll be the primary page, anyway, which will help.”

They were all grinning openly now, delighted by the scheme they were weaving, the secrets they would hold close between them.

“Rabé,” Rabene said. “Your wardrobe mistress, I think.”

That would give her access to the most personal items that protected the Queen—her clothes, jewelry, and other accessories—and provide a reason for her to always be on hand. It was perfect for an intelligence officer.

“Yané,” said Suyan. “I’ll be in charge of liaising with the palace staff and droids.”

She would have her finger on the pulse of everything that went on inside the walls. No one would suspect anything abnormal if she was to appear suddenly in the kitchens or gardens to talk to someone about the Queen’s needs.

“Eirtaé,” Eirtama said. “Communications.”

Everyone would be used to seeing her with a variety of tech in her hands. They wouldn’t think about what she was doing with it.

“Saché. The lowly page.”

No one would think much about seeing her at all.

Each girl had chosen something that would make them seem completely harmless, yet would also allow them to have additional functions without causing anyone to look twice. Their skills could be brought into play without anyone being the wiser.

Padmé smiled and looked at Tsabin. Her first handmaiden. In the two weeks since the election, they had spent nearly every moment together, though most people hadn’t been entirely aware of Tsabin’s presence. She had offered opinions on a variety of matters, and Padmé was already coming to rely on Tsabin’s good sense to temper her own idealism. They were friends, or they were on their way to friendship. And they were learning to navigate the power imbalance between them.  It wasn’t perfect—Saché seemed to be avoiding Yané deliberately—but it was a start.

“I will be everyone’s assistant,” Tsabin said. “That way people will get used to my stepping into random roles, and also not question my absence if I’m not visible.”

“And?” Padmé asked. Tsabin would always have to follow the choices of others. The least they could do was give her this.

Tsabin smiled.

“Sabé.”

Nâdune: The Handmaidens

The word for handmaiden in Nabooro is nâdune, and is rooted in the same word as “warrior” (tonde), as handmaidens are meant to not only accompany queens (or princesses, when Naboo was not yet an elected monarchy) and offer them companionship, but also guard and protect them when necessary.

Traditionally, handmaidens were older than the princess, but as the tradition of enshué ‘n canâk (masks and disguises), developed out of the older traditions of facepaint and veiling, handmaidens slowly became the same age as the princess or royal they were protecting in order to disguise themselves as her better.

The handmaid who closest resembles the one they protect (or, if several of them look similar, the title is afforded to a handmaid who has been injured in her duty towards her princess) is known as the shâm nâdun, and is the highest ranking of the nâdune, though that rank is more a formality than anything else in the present day.

The parallel figure to this for young princes is a cânsag. Cânsag have similar functions to nâdune, in that they are usually of an age with the prince or young royal or noble they protect so they can disguise themselves as each other in situations where it is necessary, though the forms their enshué take are different.

Regarding Padmé’s nâdune:

Sabé / Tsabin means “herald of new life/growth”, translating literally as “mouth of the seed.”

Eirtaé / Eirtama means “poetic.”

Ballory (Balori) is a vocational family name for those who were once royal or religious warriors, translating literally to “warriors of the Six.” (More on “the Six” soon!)

Rabé / Rabene means “daughter of spring”.

Tonsort is also a once-vocational name for religious warriors, translating to “blessed warrior.”

Saché / Sashah is a name with many meanings, generally understood as meaning “deeper than meets the eye”, though can also be understood as ‘mysterious,’ or ‘one who is less than trustworthy’ - translating literally as “to question what you see.”

Adova is a regional name for those from the Western continent.

While Sabé and Cordé are the nâdune who most resemble Padmé, Saché was given the title of shâm nâdun after the Invasion of Naboo.

Yané / Suyan means “diamond, gem,” though Yané specifically is also a name in itself that means “life, greenery.”

Higin is a historical vocational name for higher ranking tailors on Naboo, i.e. tailor.

Cordé / Cordyn is a traditional name meaning “protector of the past.”

Dormé / Dorra means “cold,” and is one of several traditional winter names for children.

Versé / Versaat means “blessed,” or, more literally, “daughter of the Six.”

Moteé is more of a metaphoric name/phrase that is best translated as “to bloom,” though it translates literally as “to grow wings,” kind of in the sense of... to come into your own?

As Moteé doesn’t have a canon ‘original’ name i.e. before-she-was-a-handmaiden name, I came up with my own: Motil.

Most of these handmaiden names are actual names, though not all of them are particularly common ones (Yané is the one that is most commonly in use in the present day). The -é form is a presently somewhat old-fashioned way of constructing names used in previous centuries by royalty—so, these names do mostly maintain their actual meaning, because the root for most of their names is the same.

* I do eventually intend to come up with more last names and assign them some, but that’s... not a priority for me right now.

THE PAST Sabé Andierre, formerly known as Tsabin, was a human female who hailed from the planet Naboo during the late era of the Galactic Republic. Serving as a handmaiden in the Royal House of Naboo, Sabé was duty-bound to protect Queen Padmé Amidala—the elected ruler of the people of Naboo—against any threat.  Tsabin was born on Naboo around 46 BBY, into a family of hallikset players.  As per family tradition, she was sent to study music at the Theed Conservatory, a school known for training traditional musicians, as her older brothers had studied there, although she strongly disliked it.  She was first handmaiden to Queen Amidala, the leader of the handmaidens during Amidala's reign as Queen, and in the early stages of their rebellion against the Galactic Empire, and a General in the Rebel Alliance. She secretly had a younger sister named Sonya Andierre, who was kept hidden to prevent anyone from learning more of their family history.  Born on her family's large land holdings, Sabé spent the earliest years of her life free of cares, though her parents were secretly dismayed by her tomboyishness. She and Sonya would rarely spend anytime together, due to the fact that she was forced to conceal and keep knowledge of her family's very existence to a bare minimum in order for the decoy gambit to remain viable, something she regretted when she got older. However, she took comfort in knowing that she and her sister were aware of one another's existence.

Despite their reservations her mother, Rian Olnick, still did her level best to spoil Sabé rotten, and throughout her life Sabé favored the Olnick family over the Andierres. As a girl, she loved playing bolo-ball against her cousins, and her childhood ambition was to do it professionally. However, when she was 11, her parents convinced her to put her name down as a possible handmaiden, and three years later, she was selected by Captain Panaka as the first of 13 Royal Handmaidens, contingent on then-Princess Amidala being elected as Queen. Very early in her training Sabé took to the role enthusiastically.

In 32 BBY, the year she turned fourteen and was expected to take up an apprenticeship, Tsabin was asked to hold off on accepting an apprenticeship until after the upcoming election, although he provided no details.  After Amidala won the election, Tsabin accepted Panaka's offer to become her body double, being introduced to Amidala and becoming the Queen's first handmaiden. Two weeks after Amidala's election, Panaka presented four other girls, Rabene Tonsort, Eirtama Ballory, Suyan Higin and Sashah Adova, to her as potential handmaidens as well, and the Queen took them to her apartments in the Theed Royal Palace to discuss things. There, the girls decided what roles each would have in Amidala's service and, at Tonsort's suggestion, changed their names to match Amidala's given one for privacy, some prestige, and so that Amidala going undercover as one of her own handmaidens would be less noticeable. The last to pick her new name, Tsabin became Sabé.

Sabé and the other handmaidens following the queen's coronation were trained in gymnastics, hand-to-hand combat and small arms handling. Despite their ability to serve as bodyguards, the handmaidens would also serve Amidala on a more personal level, tending to her outfits and hairstyles.  Thinking ahead, Panaka devised a scheme to ensure the queen's safety in times of crisis. Hit in the arm by the training droid's non-lethal blaster fire, Rabé returned fire, but even a direct hit was unable to down the droid. Padmé and Sabé also opened fire on the training device, to no avail. The duo quickly realized that something had gone amiss with the droid, and it pursued the fleeing Rabé to a nearby waterfall while Yané went to alert the compound's droid control.

While Rabé waited on the treacherous footing near the waterfall, Sabé, acting quickly, fired a cable at a nearby branch. Padmé swung from the cable, lashing out at the training droid and knocking it wildly off course. She then retrieved the injured Rabé from her dangerous position. When everyone was safe, Padmé revealed that she was in fact the queen, and in doing so she assured her handmaidens that their loyalty to her was returned in kind.

The forces of the Trade Federation invaded Naboo as a part of their protest of the taxation of trade routes. Knowing that the queen would be in danger, Captain Panaka initiated his scheme to ensure the safety of Amidala. Sabé, due to her close resemblance to Amidala, took on her guise, while Amidala adopted handmaiden attire and used her birth name of "Padmé Naberrie".  It was then that she met two Jedi Knights, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi who got them and the entourage off of Naboo in the queen’s unarmed starship. Sabe maintained her guise as “Queen Amidala”.

After a stop on Tatooine where they added young Anakin Skywalker to the ship with the Jedis, they headed to Coruscant and the Senate.  Arriving at the capital, Sabé again swapped identities with Amidala, allowing the real queen to deal with the critical political maneuvering that was sure to take place. This allowed Sabé to take a break from her stressful role, although the respite was short-lived.  Sabé, in her guise as Amidala, went before Boss Rugor Nass and pleaded with him to join their cause. When Amidala saw that this was not working, she revealed her identity as a token of trust.  Sabé was to continue to assume the role of the queen in the Battle of Naboo, although she would fight alongside Amidala herself.  Thanks to Sabé and Amidala's efforts, amongst those of many others, the battle was won, and Naboo was freed.  Following the battle, after the funeral of Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, who had been struck down in combat, Sabé again contacted elements of the Naboo Underground, and had them investigate Savor Kibbs, the leader of a new renegade movement of Humans and Gungans. The underground members eventually did battle with Kibbs in Naboo's swamps.

THE PRESENT During the Clone Wars, the Jedi High Council discovered that the Confederacy of Independent Systems had paid several outlaws on Coruscant to kidnap Amidala before a crucial speech in the Senate. In an effort to draw out the kidnappers, the Jedi hid Amidala in a safe location and allowed Sabé and Eirtaé to be captured instead. The Council then sent Anakin Skywalker—now a Jedi Knight and secretly Amidala's husband—to rescue the senator; Skywalker was not aware of the exchange that had occurred. Skywalker successfully tracked down the kidnappers and subdued them. He released Amidala's decoys, but did not like the fact that he had not been told the truth about the Jedi Council's plans.

After the battle, Sabé returned to the background in the palace, though outside of it she would take on a role in strengthening Naboo's military forces. With the practice of the Queen using her as a decoy having been exposed, she was allowed to appear in public much more than she would have been otherwise. She and Padme Amidala also grew very close during the following eight years.

PERSONALITY Throughout her life Sabé was known for her aggression, always more comfortable shooting first and asking questions later, though Panaka worked hard in her youth to teach her to restrain her impulses, and she grew better at this with age. She was a natural leader, never uncomfortable taking charge and taking command. She did not usually have difficulty getting subordinates to follow her, and her courage and lack of airs often inspired strong loyalty.  However, she was known sometimes to clash with other leaders, particularly in high-pressure situations. It was never easy for them to earn her respect, and when she developed a bad opinion of someone it could be very difficult to get her to change her mind.

Sabé was an extremely talented impersonator, fooling many in her act as Amidala. The ruse was not only successful due to her physical similarity to Amidala, but also to her skilled mimicry of Amidala's voice and mannerisms.  Sabé was taught how to echo Amidala's gait by the queen herself.

During her younger years, she never seemed entirely satisfied with all she had accomplished, always trying to better her accomplishments, and often trying to branch out of her comfort zone and acquire new skills, most especially learning to fly, and became an excellent, adept pilot.  Her favorite ship to fly was an N-1 starfighter. Age, and toll of fighting a long war against the Empire, turned her slightly more complacent, but even then she was known for continually working and moving towards new goals.

She was also a skilled combatant, fighting Federation droids at the Battle of Naboo. A crack shot with an ELG-3A blaster pistol, she managed to take off a droid's head with a single shot.  Although no harm ever befell her, Sabé was usually in great danger when disguised as the queen. She accepted this role dutifully, however.  Sharp and calculating, Sabé became a close friend of Amidala during her time as a handmaiden, devising a set of hand signals that would enable communications between the two when playing their switched roles.

Although she was adept in the role, Sabé would worry about ruining the deception with one slip of the tongue, and she found playing the part to be extremely stressful during the Invasion of Naboo, since she was effectively barred from making any actions whatsoever without Amidala's approval.  In addition to her skills as a bodyguard, Sabé could speak Gunganese, Huttese, Twi'leki, and could understand Shyriiwook.

Sabé had a particularly close friendship with Padmé and was the only handmaiden to remain in Amidala’s service after she left the throne.

Saché was often overlooked, and even as she became an adult she was often quiet and bottled up her feelings. When Padmé and her handmaidens escaped Naboo, Saché and Yané were left behind. They were put into internment camps with the rest of Naboo’s government. This forced confinement caused Saché and Yané to realize that their awkward feelings were mutual attraction. Caught transporting messages amongst the Naboo Royal Guard, she was tortured by the Trade Federation, giving her scars she would carry for the rest of her life.

After Pamdé’s term as queen, she joined Naboo’s legislative assembly. She also married Yané, and they lived in a large house with the children Yané would foster. When Sio Bibble retired as governor at the end of the Clone Wars, Saché was expected to succeed her. However, the new Emperor Palpatine appointed Quash Penaka as Moff, replacing most of the existing Naboo government. Unlike her wife, Saché joined the Amidalans, a group of Naboo led by Sabé who sought to avenge Padmé’s death. With the rest of the handmaidens, she held her own for a time in combat against Darth Vader. Despite the decimation of the group, Saché managed to survive, and when Sabé became an operative for Vader (long story), she joined her handmaidens once more to save Sabé. When Sabé was captured by Jul Tambor, the handmaidens allied themselves with Vader. When Vader and Sly Moore tried to turn them to the side of the Empire, they were unmoved. They managed to free Sabé, but she refused to leave with them and returned to Vader’s side. Crushed, Saché returned to her wife and tried to continue to live.

However, she was only skilled enough to ever have a supporting role and instead volunteered to be one of Queen Amidala’s handmaidens. After Padmé died, Sabé founded an organization known as the Amidalans- a rebel cell consisting of Naboo (including some of the other handmaidens), who sought to avenge Padmé. They attempted to assassinate Vader (who they deemed responsible) on multiple occasions. Sabé focused on deception, pretending to work with Vader to find Padmé’s killer and infiltrating Crimson Dawn. Until she figured out that Vader was Anakin. Remembering how Padmé’s last words (which had been recorded) was “There’s still good in [Anakin]”, she decided to actually become Vader’s operative. Her given reason was that the Empire and Vader did bring order to the galaxy, but it is just as likely she is following her queen’s last order to attempt to bring the man she loved back to the light. She remained by Vader’s side even when her fellow handmaidens came to “rescue” her. Her last appearance in the comics was Vader abandoning her on a beach until she could decide to fully commit to the Dark Side (emotionally speaking).

Sabé had crushes on a handful of people and even a romantic relationship with Tonra, but her most important was her romantic love for Padmé. These feelings were requited, with Queen’s Hope creating a love triangle where Sabé represented ideology and duty and Anakin was selfish love. As we know, Padmé chose Anakin, but a deciding factor was Sabé’s self esteem being temporarily shattered by Palpatine. Her wider moral view seems to have degraded after spending over two decades focusing on avenging Padmé instead of joining the wider Rebellion. However, even working for the Empire, she hasn’t gone completely evil yet- doing things like pretending to kill a bunch of refugees to gain their loyalty instead of actually killing them.

THE PAST Sabé Andierre, formerly known as Tsabin, was a human female who hailed from the planet Naboo during the late era of the Galactic Republic. Serving as a handmaiden in the Royal House of Naboo, Sabé was duty-bound to protect Queen Padmé Amidala—the elected ruler of the people of Naboo—against any threat.  Tsabin was born on Naboo around 46 BBY, into a family of hallikset players.  As per family tradition, she was sent to study music at the Theed Conservatory, a school known for training traditional musicians, as her older brothers had studied there, although she strongly disliked it.  She was first handmaiden to Queen Amidala, the leader of the handmaidens during Amidala's reign as Queen, and in the early stages of their rebellion against the Galactic Empire, and a General in the Rebel Alliance. She secretly had a younger sister named Sonya Andierre, who was kept hidden to prevent anyone from learning more of their family history.  Born on her family's large land holdings, Sabé spent the earliest years of her life free of cares, though her parents were secretly dismayed by her tomboyishness. She had a younger sister, however, the two would rarely spend anytime together, due to the fact that she was forced to conceal and keep knowledge of her family's very existence to a bare minimum in order for the decoy gambit to remain viable, something she regretted when she got older. However, she took comfort in knowing that she and her sister were aware of one another's existence.

Despite their reservations her mother, Rian Olnick, still did her level best to spoil Sabé rotten, and throughout her life Sabé favored the Olnick family over the Andierres. As a girl, she loved playing bolo-ball against her cousins, and her childhood ambition was to do it professionally. However, when she was 11, her parents convinced her to put her name down as a possible handmaiden, and three years later, she was selected by Captain Panaka as the first of 13 Royal Handmaidens, contingent on then-Princess Amidala being elected as Queen. Very early in her training Sabé took to the role enthusiastically.

In 32 BBY, the year she turned fourteen and was expected to take up an apprenticeship, Tsabin was asked to hold off on accepting an apprenticeship until after the upcoming election, although he provided no details.  After Amidala won the election, Tsabin accepted Panaka's offer to become her body double, being introduced to Amidala and becoming the Queen's first handmaiden.
