You ever just realize that maybe the author of Naruto was planning to make Sasuke and Naruto a thing? I mean, having to best friends kiss, not once, but twice, is a lil fishy? 😉

(VOTE WANGXIAN)
This whole poll is giving me lots of thoughts on fandom and what can legitimately be said to be influential on fandom as a whole, and what is regional/generational/cultural etc. For example, there are a plenty of sasanaru fans talking about how important it was in the early 00s for online queers and I'm just like "???" because this queer was def. terminally online in that time and in my late teens/early twenties during this period, and even as someone super into anime and manga, I never watched/read naruto, and was only tangentially aware of it. Even my group of younger friends (4-5 years younger, my little bros best friends, almost exclusively queer and majority Japanese) who were more into it weren't *big* fans. We were way more invested in Death Note, Fruits Basket, InuYasha, etc. Of course, this poll is at least in part about *lasting* impact, since it's drawing from the most popular ships on AO3. And some older ships have the benefit of having a huge number of fics created in the pre-ao3 days still being moved over, but they also need to have people still writing in them and keeping them relevant. (In a way, Spirk and MSR have an edge over other older fandoms, in that both ST and TXF continue to have reboots, spinoffs, and new episodes, but that's a topic for another post).
A couple of years ago, Hannigram would've handily beaten Sasanaru in their poll, because our fandom was fucking huge and rabid and were hoping that by showing our passion and numbers, we might get a renewal (ot, but I heard that Hannigram fans were assholes in the comments on that poll, and though I didn't see it, sorry to hear it guys :/ we got plenty of harassment in the past, but that doesn't make it okay to pay it forward on you). Same thing with Drarry or Viktor/Yuuri in their respective heydays. So Sasanaru at least stood the test of time--either retaining enough of the diehard fans, or gaining enough new to keep it relevant--but does it make it the most influential? When there are so many ppl of the same generation who've never consumed it? Who would outright avoid it? Same questions about Wangxian. They are My Ship and I will go down with them, lmao, but I think it's pretty obvious from all the "who dey" comments on their various polls, there's a huge part of fandom completely unfamiliar with MDZS and CQL. (btw, go watch on Viki or borrow the books from your library or find on amazon and change your life with our amazing fandom content for real, I will never stop talking about how good the story is, and how superlative the fic written for it is) Of course, even still their impact on AO3 is still felt, through the tag limit and not being accessible in an entire country. But still. For the people who've never seen it, and relate more to one of the other fandoms, why do they care? If they aren't in China, they aren't feeling the impact of the loss of AO3, and most of them probably aren't actually hitting the AO3 tag limit.
These are just thoughts rolling around in my head, when I see people saying things like "remember your roots." I need to order my thoughts a bit more and make a longer post. But I guess what it boils down is to "my roots are not necessarily your roots." Sure, here in the US, we see ourselves as a giant mycelium network, with Star Trek forming the roots, and then big branching off-shoots from there, with The X-Files being one of the major ones. But it's not global. Fans in other places around the world might have taken clippings and grafted aspects of our fandom onto theirs, added the /, use the word 'ship,' but that was added on to what already existed--it didn't uproot what was already there.
AO3 Top Relationships Bracket - THIRD PLACE
This poll is a celebration of fandom history; we're aware that there are certain issues with many of the listed pairings and sources, but they are a part of that history. Please do not take this as an endorsement, and refrain from harassment.

Love the way we took one look at Gortash welcoming Durge and collectively went "OTP, Gortash bottoms." No fandom ship since SasaNaru has been so instantaneous.

ugh ohmygod so I saw this post and it made me so mad that I simultaneously wanted to reblog it just to rant in the tags and to not reblog it so that I could avoid sharing it with /more/ people
listen. music is universal. when a singer, songwriter, producer, lyricist, musician, team puts something out into the world, there may be emotions that they are trying to put into it. They will draw on these emotions as they perform and edit and refine this thing they are making. There may be a story they are trying to tell, an experience they are trying to communicate, and this may not be straightforward; there is a level of abstraction between conceptualization and realization that I am convinced exists to some level in all pieces of art like this. This is not a flaw; this is marvellous. When I the listener interact with a song, or an album, or an artist's entire body of work - the emotions that I feel and the story that is conveyed to me may be just. absolutely different from the artist's intentions and their own experience. It may resonate with me in an entirely different way than intended; it may resonate with someone else in a separate, distinct, discrete way. My and others' awareness of the artist and any context they have made clear may play a part in this or it may not; it depends on how I interact with music and how readily available this information is.
All this is to say: the only fucked up thing with this whole gaylor shit is the part where people are convinced that their interpretation of her music and the way it resonates with them indicates some fundamental truth about her identity. The only person who knows that is her and frankly it's none of anyone else's business and it's probably not that interesting anyway. But!!! this does not mean that her music cannot resonate with someone's experience of queerness!!!! It is story and song and a vehicle for emotion, and the details that make something sing true to someone's life and values are not pinned to the artist's "true identity" like a fuckin. butterfly to a corkboard. there is VALUE and DELIGHT in being aware of some additional dimension of queerness by virtue of the singers intentions or identity or whatever but that's a fucking BONUS you NIMRODS the only thing you need is a heart to feel things and a song to feel them about it's about YOU and how you interpret things. you change things just by existing!!! the only person to experience a song the way you do is YOU!!! "if I wanna listen to gay music I'll listen to gay ppl singing about gay sex" good for you!! but what a sad and limited life you must lead to need the significance and meaning of art spoonfed to you by author bios.
AND THEN. fucking condescending ass AAAAAAAH listen. christian rock can slap. i say this as someone who is markedly not christian. and even if you don't think it slaps that's fine. but the fact that someone's out here going "oh poor limited babies who've never listened to real proper good music before projecting sasanaru onto christian rock because they've never known anything else" grow uppppp!!! first of all!!! nobody. NOBODY. is out here saying 10,000 reasons by matt whatever is about sasuke and naruto kissing. you know this in your heart of hearts, just like you know deep down that there is VALUE in eking out meaning in places where you don't expect to find it, and in places that have some connection to the earliest parts of you. (and even if you aren't doing this, aren't interacting with the context of the music and its genre, see above re:universal fucking language). you've probably done it before. it's tumblr, land of transformative works and webweaving of course you have. how limited in scope must you be to think that people who listen to a genre you don't value but who are also queer or something must be just poor deprived children, limited in resource, waiting for that next evolution i'm gonna weep. anyway listen to relient k cowards
#listen its 2:40 AM and this is not nearly as coherent as i want it to be considering the things im thinking#this is the galaxy brain thing but in reverse#but if i dont get this out somewhere i will be up all night or i will wake someone up to talk about it and i have work in the morning#and like.#for a long time the thing that made me keep considering holding onto christianity was the music#the emotion it conveys is held up and amplified by community and just by virtue of the songs structure and melodic devices and whatnot#and lyrically theyre full of symbolism and rich language and metaphor and depth!! this is perfectly natural because like it or not they dra#from a historical text thousands of years old with fuckin poetical leanings#it took me a long time to realize that the emotions christian music evoked in me did not necessarily coincide with belief#and a longer time still (and im still working on this) to learn to continue to enjoy and interact with that music without feeling guilt for#that lack of belief#but anyway!! that literary element; the rich language and historical background and symbolism is part of what makes religious imagery in art#in stories and songs and shows#so potent#and to pretend it isn't is dumb#i have now run out of steam gn

I’m on spring break! Whoo!!!
Not sure if anyone is going to see this, but just in case!
I’m going to try something new since I love drawing crossovers and I now have 2 weeks of free time.
Its’ something called “Crossover Roulette”.
Basically, I will pair a character(s) from another show based on the replies on the post. The clincher is that you have 6 relatively (in my opinion) good options and the 6th one is cringe fest (for fun’s sake). Obviously I won’t tell you which pair is which.
If no one replies, I’ll just draw the cringy one
Anyways... First, I’m drawing the “Naruto and Sasuke” pairing from the show “Naruto” (duh!). Choose from the options below
“Naruto” and [REDACTED]
“Naruto” and [REDACTED]
“Naruto” and [REDACTED]
“Naruto” and [REDACTED]
“Naruto” and [REDACTED]
“Naruto” and [REDACTED]
I don’t know how long the polling will go but anyways if you see this post, reply with a number!

SasaNaru kids headcanon
So imagine Sasuke, when he’s family are still alive and everything, seeing this other kid sat on his own. He knows who the kid is, practically every one in the village does, but he ignores his parents warnings and approaches him anyway. He doesn’t bully or ridicule him and they hit it off as friends almost straightaway. They casually throw insults each other but its just teasing, and when it really matters they are right there next to each other standing up for one another. Sasuke taking Naruto somewhere private to help him train because he really wants to pass the academy exam but his clone jutsu still sucks. Sasuke showing off his jutsu to someone who admires it instead of comparing it to his brothers. Naruto’s eyes occasionally flashing red when he tells Sasuke about the latest comment someone had made to him and Sasuke telling him how cool it is. These two kids who completely break down the metaphorical walls the people of the village have created and becoming best friends. They never talk outside of these secret moments they spend together, and that’s Naruto’s idea because he doesn’t want the villagers to ridicule and hurt Sasuke the same way they do to him. The first time Sasuke brings Naruto home there is no one else there except Itachi, who is training in the backyard. Sasuke introduces Naruto to his older brother and Naruto is absolutely terrified because this boy is older and would know exactly who he is and what if he hates him like everyone else. But Itachi, even knowing the stories, just sees this nervous little boy who is his brothers best friend and he smiles so warmly at Naruto that Naruto just starts crying. From then on Itachi will sometimes join their training sessions and it becomes there own little secret and Naruto loves it because he finally has friends.
Sasuke’s parents are ensure how to take the news when their sons tell them what they’ve been doing but Itachi tells Sasuke to bring Naruto round for dinner and he does. When their parents meet Naruto they don’t see a monster they just see a young boy who wants a family and they treat him like one of their own. After that Naruto comes round for dinner almost every day, and he is happy with this family, even if they aren’t really his, because they accept him like no one else did. After Itachi kills the rest of the Uchiha’s Sasuke doesn’t know what to do, so he goes to Naruto’s house. Naruto doesn’t see a ‘poor little Uchiha boy who lost his family’ he sees his first very friend crying because he has just lost everything. That night Naruto doesn’t let go of Sasuke as they cry together, because the Uchiha’s were his family to. After they finally become genin Naruto doesn’t even spare Sakura a second glance, he slips into the seat next to Sasuke and elbows him in the side because it is natural and normal. Sasuke glares at him but instead of reprimanding him or telling him to move, like everyone expects, he grabs Naruto in a headlock until Naruto surrenders. They throw insults and banter at each other, without caring for their audience, and they enjoy it because they are friends and practically family.
