Sarajane Case of Enneagram and Coffee, the latest guest on the Enneagram 2.0 podcast, said something really interesting and observant on the new episode of the latter show: she thinks Gen Z as a whole has a type 1 energy to it: the readiness and lack of fear to call out what is immoral and unhealthy, the need to fix things that are very broken in the world, the willingness to learn from more diverse voices. I think even some of the desire for moral purity you see a lot of on this site could fall under that umbrella. I find this really interesting, the idea that not just different world cultures can have type energies but also different generations as well. (It makes a lot of sense when you consider that the Enneagram was originally a process system rather than a system of human personality.)

Froggie's Birthday Retrospective
My birthday was Tuesday, July 30th.
I turned 43.
And I was unconscious for most of it.
I started a new dose of medication and it did not go well. I was quite sick. I have been out of commission for most of this week and was unable to celebrate my birthday with all of my friends.
I was feeling pretty bummed so I decided to look back at pictures of my past few birthdays and hoped nostalgia would make me feel better.
And it did.
But you can never seem to get the sweet without the bitter when grief is involved. Despite the happy feelings, it was also a huge reminder of what I lost. And it made me really miss Otis and my parents.
These are such joyous memories and I am so grateful I was learning photography and was eager to document everything in my life. And I decided to re-edit all of the photos with my current skills and I think they turned out pretty well. So I'm going to share them with you and we can all celebrate my birthday virtually.
We start with me and Otis in our birthday headgear.
And here is The FrogMom joining in.
Seems I got a few presents that year.
But no present can top a corgi trying to sneak attack with an ear licking.
The next year I ordered some cool Batman birthday hats.
I did not get cool Batman birthday hats.
I was a little grumpy about that.
"Otis, we are doing our grumpy face!" "But I wanna be a pretty princess." "Okay, but will you do a grumpy face first?"
Mom and Otis had a pretty special relationship. And seeing them together always tugs at the heartstrings.
My good friends Sarajane and Erin came over for a birthday dinner.
And I was trying out a new photography apparatus to help me get better portraits. Something called a "tri-reflector."
So naturally I needed some test subjects volunteers.
I didn't really know how to use it properly, so it mostly just made their necks brighter, but I got a few good shots.
Sarajane made me one of my all time favorite gifts...
A Jayne hat!
And another, tinier Jayne hat!
Let's see if we can get Otis to wear that.
Nope.
Let's try one more time.
You know what, I'll just wear the tiny Jayne hat.
Everyone must wear a Jayne hat!
"Hey Dad!"
"Are you really asleep?"
"LIAR!"
The next year, my good friend Brittany joined the fun. And someone gave her a knife for some reason.
And my dad got very serious. So I used my very serious LUT on the photo.
Such deep thoughts.
Deep thoughts concluded.
Deactivate serious LUT.
My friend Ryan came across the country to watch me blow out a candle.
Just so you know, I am not a 1 year old in this picture.
My mom found this in a drawer somewhere. It was the only birthday candle she had.
And then the next year it was just Brittany and Erin and Otis. We had a pizza party.
I asked them to do a Renaissance pose.
And then ruin it.
Renaissance pose...
And then ruin it...
I've had some pretty good birthdays with amazing family and friends. And I am grateful for those memories.
And I do plan to redo my birthday when I am feeling better. Perhaps I will finally try a real sushi restaurant instead of just getting it at Sam's.
In any case, if you are inclined to get me something for my birthday, I have an Amazon wishlist.
Froggie's Amazon Wishlist
I also am trying to build a new photography studio upstairs, and if you would rather help with that, these are some things I could use.
Froggie's Photography Wishlist
And I also have a PayPal and Venmo if that is easier.

A Fresno woman is seeking monetary damages after a doctor removed her spleen instead of a diseased kidney, a mistake that left a pathologist “astonished,” according to a lawsuit.
The woman, Sarajane Parfitt, must undergo another operation to take out the kidney, and the removal of the spleen leaves her vulnerable to serious infections, according to medical experts. The lawsuit, filed in Fresno County Superior Court in June, contends the mistake has caused Parfitt “severe emotional distress.”
Paul Pimentel, Parfitt’s attorney, called the surgical error “insane ... I’ve never heard of this in this community.”
Named in the lawsuit are Dr. Narayana Ambati, Community Regional Medical Center and Urology Associates of Central California. Also mentioned is another doctor identified as Shahin Chandrasoma of Pasadena.
Efforts to reach Ambati were unsuccessful. Mike Ball, a partner in Fresno law firm McCormick, Barstow, responded to an inquiry by saying:
“The incident involving patient Parfitt was subject of a full (California Department of Public Health) investigation last summer. Dr Ambati was NOT involved in the nephrectomy. The surgeon actually was a locum tenens, Dr. Chandrasoma. He is not affiliated with UACC. Curiously, he is not named in the recent lawsuit, but he is mentioned in paragraphs 10 and 12. I do not know who represents Dr. Chandrasoma.”
A locum tenens is a visiting surgeon. Efforts to reach Chandrasoma on Friday were unsuccessful.
Pimentel also said it is possible that Ambati did not perform the surgery, but he hadn’t “had that confirmed.”
In response to the lawsuit, Community Regional Medical Center issued this statement:
“During this difficult time for patient Sarajane Parfitt and her family members, we offer our sympathy. Because this case is pending, we are unable to comment.”
Pimentel said he expected the case to be settled out of court.
“The doctor does not want this case to follow him,” Pimentel said.
“Ninety-nine percent of cases settle” out of court, he added. “The fact is, this is so egregious, they should settle.”
The Bee did not receive a reply Friday from the California Department of Public Health about any investigation of the operation.
The operation took place in June 2021. The mistake went undetected for several days until the kidney was examined after it was sent to a pathologist, according to court documents. The pathologist “was so astonished, he asked other pathologists to confirm his diagnoses.” Ultimately, all five pathologists agreed the organ submitted for examination and identified as a left kidney was in fact a spleen.
According to the Mayo Clinic, when a spleen is removed, other organs generally take over its functions, but along with the higher risk of serious infections, a patient without a spleen has increased difficulty recovering from an illness.
In a similar Orange County, California case in 2017, a Santa Ana urologist was barred from further kidney operations after removing a patient’s spleen instead of a kidney, according to The LAist. He was also required to have another urologist on hand whenever he performed other procedures.
The case is scheduled to be back in court on Oct. 13.

Soulchild theory
What do you think of 'soulchild' theory, Charity? I heard Sarajane Case (the author of the Honest Enneagram) talking about it in her podcast and then I read about it in 'The Spiritual Dimension of The Enneagram: Nine Faces of The Soul' by Sandra Maitri. According to soulchild theory, we manifest traits of our growth number in childhood and contain that number as our inner childhood self. (Link to theory here - https://theenneagraminbusiness.com/theory/enneagram-theory-soul-child-maybe-not-disowned-childlike-self-perhaps/ and https://michaelshahan.com/blog-post/2020/1/27/soul-child-reclaim-your-true-self ).
I think there's some merit to it. Most of what my parents have said about me as a very small child would fit 9 (easygoing, a good-natured and pleasant baby, disliked conflict) and somewhere along the way I got anxious and fearful of them leaving me places, even if they'd never done it before. I certainly relate to the having a 9 self deep inside (I would love to just lie here all morning in bed and do absolutely nothing useful today, but Obligations :P) ... but I also have a 9 fix, so I'm not sure how much of this is just relating to that side of my personality. I suspect if you have your integration number in your tritype it's way easier to progress toward it, since it's already instinctual and something 'present' in your life. (I'm a 6, but I don't over-prepare as an ENFP, I shrug and say, "Might never happen" and try to move toward calmness. So... yeah.)

The Battle of the Two Ice Queens
“Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. But what happens when you don’t know who’s who?”
That was a brilliant opening by Andy Cohen on the topic of the friendship in the group, but especially with Lisa Barlow and Meredith Marks.
It seems like it’s another reunion where it’s Lisa against everybody, but this year she’s in the hot seat for several reasons.
She was a pot stirrer who tried to cover up her own tracks.
She was a sore loser who was incapable to acknowledge any wrongdoings and played the victim.
And then there was the hot mic moment.
Andy even stated at it seems like Lisa is having a lot of important conversation off camera this season, and it’s true.
It looks manipulative. She even tried it again at the reunion with Meredith, several times.
Meredith has every right to be upset with Lisa, but why is Heather Gay and Whitney Rose ganging up on her?
I know it’s frustrating witnessing someone failing to take accountability and acting remorseful, but they should let Meredith hold her own grown.
She’s doing a phenomenal job on her own at this reunion.
Lawyer Meredith Marks was slowly but surely making her case at this reunion.
But Lisa sounds more angry than remorseful. Was she sorry for what she had done or was she sorry she got caught?
The thing about the hot mic moment is how it makes Lisa look. Who’s the real Lisa Barlow?
The venom in her voice in that hot mic moment suggest that there’s real emotion behind her words. Andy even called it a “truth dump”.
Lisa claimed that she didn’t mean those things, but Whitney inserted herself.
She told Meredith that Lisa had said that before they had even filmed, and that Meredith should talk to SaraJane Warner.
It seems like Lisa’s friends are betraying her this year. First Angie Harrington and now Sarah Jane.
I knew that the argument at Shabbat dinner in the premiere episode created issues between them, and I was right.
Is there even a future for their friendship?

My Night With Official Outcome
(From April 2015)
I decided to spend my Friday night at Weekend Willie’s in Naples. I’ve eaten there a few times before and I love it. I wish I could spend more nights eating there than at home.
I walk in, grabbed a seat and waited for a server to get me a drink. The band onstage is preparing to open up the night. They are playing as a quintet, but at the core of the band are Zac Sperry, 21, of Naples and Julia DeTomaso, 15, also of Naples. They are Official Outcome.
Weekend Willie’s was modestly busy that night given the time of year They started out the night with acoustic pop covers, including Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours”, Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud”, Luke Bryan’s “Play It Again” and “Hero” by Enrique Iglesias.
At the end of these songs, DeTomaso switched from acoustic guitar and sat behind the drum kit.
Their drummer Ryan Cathey takes up a djembe onstage as their keyboardist Garrett Cutler plays the Jeopardy song. They also make note that the Truth Custom drum set is brand new. Julia wasted no time making it sing. She hit that thing hard. I can’t even remember the song they played. I could only focus on that ferocious drumming.
Again, Julia and Ryan rotated instruments with the Jeopardy song playing. When they feel like the joke isn’t funny anymore, Zac starts playing a blues shuffle in E. I think to myself, “OK where is this going?” Once they got a groove going, Zac does the sliding Chuck Berry riff intro to “Johnny B. Goode”. Not kidding. It got livelier as more people trickle in. From there they go into “Rock Around the Clock” and blink-182’s “All the Small Things” before taking their first break. ______________________________________________________________________________ I remember when I got the invite to like their Facebook page. It said Official Outcome formed in December of 2012 at Center Point Community Church in Naples and listed their style as “Americana pop”. Right off the bat they started playing shows all across Southwest Florida and got recognition. Indie Artist Magazine even named them the 2013 Artist of the Year. Their original vocalist Sarajane Sullivan rounded them out as a trio, but left before a year had even passed.

During the first break, I got to sit and chat with Julia and Zac about what they had been up to. For the past year or so, they have been promoting their debut release Never Take It Slow through their Facebook and ReverbNation accounts. I started off by telling them what a great performance they put on. They responded with awkward silence and some awkward thanks.
“‘Official Outcome is rude, they don’t say thanks,’” Zac said jokingly.
“You guys have a new LP coming out soon, is that right?” I asked.
“Yes,” Julia replied.
“When does it drop?”
“That’s a good question,” Julia said.
“When you find out, let me know,” Zac said. “Um . . . I don’t know. That’s the only information I can tell you at this time.”
The record, titled Never Take It Slow, was set to be released earlier this year on Valentine’s Day.
Zac said that recording was finished, but there were some decisions being made over a song being featured on their release.
“How do you feel about this being your first LP?”
“I’m excited. I think Zac is too. It’s exciting to be able to get our music out.’
“But this is your first album too, so . . .”
“Wait, wait,” Zac said. “I have to clarify this. It’s only four or five songs, so it’s like a demo. It’s not full LP.”
“It’s not a full LP?”
“It’s an EP.”
At that moment, I was slightly disappointed. I was anticipating a long player at this point in the band’s history, or least for them to have enough material written for one. Everything sort of pointed in that direction. After all, they had put out a music video for their original piece “Tell Me That You Love Me” in 2013, when Official Outcome was still a trio. ______________________________________________________________________________ After the break, Official Outcome reconvened to the stage. Again, they returned with the mellow covers like “Secrets” by OneRepublic. They followed up with a tasteful rendition “Cruise’ by Florida Georgia Line and the more upbeat “Best Day of My Life” by American Authors.
They turn up the artificial reverb effects through the vocal mics and through the guitar amps.
Julia jokingly says, “Welcome to Earth.” They take their time making sure everything is set just right.
The spacey noise is so present at this point, Austin yells from the crowd, “Are we at Woodstock?” After Julia gets all the giggles out, she sings “Royals” by Lorde.
Near the end of the song, Zac hopped back behind the drum kit to drag the song out a little longer. I got distracted by two very awkward conversations between an elderly Minnesota man and some tipsy woman. Before I knew it, the second set was over and Official Outcome was on break. ______________________________________________________________________________ I’ve known Zac since the spring of 2009 during our sophomore year of high school. He was a home-school student who ran track and field with me for First Baptist Academy. We both signed up for spring football later that year. I figured he would go to Naples High School like told me he would, but his parents decided to enroll him as a full-time student at FBA. Since then, we’ve been friends. We had common interests in music and sports, and we shared a bizarre, offbeat sense of humor. Interestingly enough, our birthdays sit right next to each other.
Zac is also one of the few friends that stayed in Naples after high school. After two semesters at Florida Gulf Coast University, he decided college wasn’t for him. I, on the other hand, dedicated myself to just schoolwork.
I wasn’t too disappointed about the record or the release date. I asked Zac and Julia about the recording process. The recording took place at the Mix Factory studios in Bonita Springs, with production work from local artists Ray Nesbitt, Darrell Nutt and Doug Tracy, whom both refer to as “just Doug.”
“What was the recording process like? Did you already have songs going into the studio?”
“We had songs that were written before,” Zac said.
“Did you improve upon them or were they good to go?”
“No, we definitely improved upon them.”
“What have the guys at The Mix Factory taught you on the production side?”

“I think they taught us about arrangement,” Zac said. “Arrangement is the biggest thing that I learned about writing songs.”
“What about aesthetics? What’s their production philosophy versus your production philosophy?”
“Something that’s going to stick in your head,” Julia said, “in a good way obviously.”
“They really like catchy hooks,” Zac said. “Julia has a knack for writing catchy hooks, so they don’t have to change a lot about that.” ______________________________________________________________________________ Official Outcome jumped back onstage once more and begin with a mashup of Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” and Jessie J’s “Price Tag”. The muted instrumentation provides a great foil to Zac and Julia’s soulful delivery. As they drag out the song, Zac starts twerking onstage. Julia jokingly suggests photo editing Kim Kardashian’s butt onto Zac’s backside, which earns them a few laughs from the audience.
They can sense their limits coming on as 10 p.m. approaches, but they take it in stride. They throw an original and a hilariously censored version of Cee Lo Green’s “F**K You.” They end the set doing an extended jam on Sublime’s “What I Got”. They give credit to all the musicians onstage and opens up the musical space to let each of them solo. ______________________________________________________________________________ As far as future is concerned, Official Outcome’s plans are to keep playing shows like this in local bars and public spaces, and to seek more independence and a sense of adventure in their songwriting and production. It may sound modest, but Julia is still only a sophomore at Naples High School. She says she and has plans for dual enrollment at Florida SouthWestern College.
In Zac’s case, he’s recently completed his EMT training. Still, they have come this far since losing one member with lots of support from friends and family, and they aren’t too worried about the future. Their manager, Sheri Austin, isn’t worried either.
“As long as they are having fun and have the right attitude and remain humble and follow their dreams, that’s what’s important,” Austin said. “The minute it’s not fun anymore, it stops.”
Of course, in our shared sense of humor, I could not resist asking the very last question.
“Alright, very last question,” I said.
Zac laughs and asks “Is it like a ‘Dan Terrero-back-in-high-school’ question?” I do the best I can to tell him no.
“Do you have any guilty pleasures in music?”
“Brittney Spears,” Zac says. “Just kidding, just kidding.”
“He’s not kidding,” Julia says straight-faced. “He has that song ‘Circus’ on his phone. He knows every single word. I’m not even joking.”
“Ok,” Zac goes, “Circus’ is my guilty pleasure.”
“I’m trying to think, “I don’t know,” Julia says.
“’One Time’ by Justin Bieber.”
We all had a good laugh on that question, promised each other to stay in touch, said our goodbyes and headed home.

Day 2 - Chinatown
After yesterday, I expected surprises. Those I waited did not happen, and those who did not - occurred. But here I will not write about it yet.
At first part of the day, fellow schedule sends me to Chinatown. With detailed instructions, audio podcast, and tickets to Cantonese speaking classes. That was pretty immersive, to walk through narrow streets of Chinatown with stories about great shady past (and possible, present) of this neighborhood.
Then I landed on the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA). Museum mainly dedicated to the dramatic history of the uneasy way that the Chinese in America have done. It was new to me, and I was deeply touched. It’s curious how universal the message that lies behind that dark story of discrimination.
Two hours on Cantonese language courses made this dive deeper, although I was not a very good student. I wonder how different, even after such a short encounter with the language, began to sound chattering around Chinatown.
After a short rest, I hurried to a poetry reading evening. It was in an extraordinary bookstore, Bluetockings Bookstore, “volunteer-powered and collectively-owned radical bookstore.”
I also met Sarajane, student curator-philosopher, originally from Bangalore - Indian silicon valley. I would prefer an interesting conversation to a poetic reading, but in any case, it was unusual and exciting (most of it). Unfortunately right after Sarajane had to leave, but I hope we’ll meet again.
And after all this I finally went home through carnival east side to read my newly acquired book:

Today in Soap Opera History (June 10)
On this date in...
1941: On NBC radio soap opera The Guiding Light, Myrna returned to San Francisco in a depression and tried to bury her grief by returning to her broadcasting career. Martin Kane thought she was sad because her ex-husband, Ned Holden (Ed Prentiss), was marrying Mary Rutledge (Sarajane Wells) but Myrna told him that wasn't the case. She confessed that she met a man on the East Coast and fell in love with him. Myrna refused to give details, but said that the relationship ended. Martin said that she may have misinterpreted the entire affair and that he'll wait for her.
1991: On Santa Barbara, Cruz (A Martinez) and Flame (Roberta Bizeau Weiss) decided to work together.
1991: Dame Judith Anderson (ex-Minx, Santa Barbara) was awarded the A.C. (Companion of the Order of Australia) for her services to drama.

Transgender rights, viral good deeds, and the Oxford comma: Your weekly dose of good news.
<br>
Did you hear the news?
You may or may not have heard yet, but all over the world, people are showing each other love, lending a helping hand, committing selfless acts of kindness, and fearlessly pushing society forward.
No, it's true. I swear!
In fact, here are 12 things that happened recently that will definitely make you feel good about the world.
1. Best family reunion ever? These orphaned siblings live in separate foster homes, but hopefully not for long.
Bradley, Preston, Layla, Landon, and Olive were recently featured in the Kansas City Star under the headline "Family Wanted." Shortly after their heart-wrenching story reached the public, the state's adoption service had to take down the family's profile due to overwhelming interest.
Hopefully the three brothers and two sisters will be together again under one roof real soon.

2. When a passenger wearing a headscarf was harassed on the subway, this Chinese Peruvian woman Shut. It. Down.
Tracey Tong confronted the harasser (who was berating a fellow passenger on the crowded train) in both Spanish and English, telling her: "I'm asking you to please respect her. In Spanish, in English, in Chinese, in French, whatever language you want me to say it, I will say it to you."

3. A moving campaign by Jews in Tucson, Arizona, raised a ton of money to replace some vandalized Qurans.
Someone broke into a local Islamic center and destroyed over 100 copies of the Quran, the Islamic holy book. So some members of the nearby Jewish Community Center started a campaign to raise money for replacements.
So far, they've raised over $9,000 — enough to replace the books and help the center install better security.

4. Only a couple of hundred years late, this old "boys only" golf club is now allowing women to join.
The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers has been around for nearly 300 years but is just now getting around to allowing female members. It only seems fair since, you know, some of the best golfers in the world are women.

5. This adorable young girl wants to teach you about sharks (and life).

6. We finally have proof that the five-second rule might be real.
GIF via "Parks and Recreation."
A study out of Aston University finally confirms what we have all known (hoped?) to be true our entire lives:
"As long as it's not obviously contaminated, the science shows that food is unlikely to have picked up harmful bacteria from a few seconds spent on an indoor floor," said the study's author, Anthony Hilton.
7. The Oxford comma, at long last, got its due.
The lack of a comma in a key document passage sparked a legal battle between dairy drivers in Maine and their employers over whether they qualified for overtime pay. The judge in the case said that without an Oxford comma, the text in question was too ambiguous and open to interpretation.
Boom. History has spoken.
8. This teenager is completely reimagining donated clothes for underprivileged youth, and it's making a big impact.
Dillon Eisman hard at work. Photo by Sew Swag.
Dillon Eisman, a junior at Malibu High School in California, believes kids in poverty shouldn't have to only wear people's baggy unwanted sweaters and old hole-y jeans. So he started the nonprofit Sew Swag to upcycle them into pieces kids could feel confident in, and his work is remarkable.
9. A heartbreaking photo of a selfless dad looking on as his daughters enjoy a meal went viral, and now people are stepping up to help.
After a local man took a powerful photo of a hungry father looking on as his girls ate at a fast food restaurant in Manila, it went massively viral. People from all over the world have offered donations to make sure the family can all eat together for a long time to come.

10. The people have spoken, and Monopoly might be getting a T-rex piece.
RAWRRRR. Photo by Hasbro.
Monopoly held a vote to replace some of its iconic game pieces, and if they honor the results, we can officially say goodbye to the shoe, wheelbarrow, and thimble (by far the most boring game piece of all time) and say hello to the Tyrannosaurus rex, among others.
See? Change isn't always bad.
11. This news anchor fired back after a viewer criticized her "revealing" wardrobe.
Anchor Toya Washington of WISN-TV in Wisconsin received an anonymous letter chastising her for "exposed skin" and suggesting that maybe she was starting to "feel her age."
Washington responded perfectly in a Facebook post, writing, in part:
"If 'feeling my age' is in reference to still being able to effectively slay at work and at home as a wife and mother, then yes...I feel star-spangled-banner good for 'my age.'"
Image via Toya Washington/Facebook.
12. And this common-sense bill in Oregon that would help transgender people make changes to their legal documents is gaining momentum.
According to KXL, many transgender people in Oregon have difficulty buying homes, getting health care, and applying for jobs because their birth certificates and other vital records don't accurately reflect their identities.
Oregon is trying to make it easier for those people to make changes without having to go to court, and the proposal cleared the Oregon House just this week.
Woohoo!!
See, good news is all around us, even when things feel bleak or scary or trying. You might have to look a little harder for it some days, but I promise you, it's worth it!

Olivia is a 9-year-old girl who's obsessed with sharks, books, and sharing her wisdom and passion on her blog, The LivBits. Following her is a guaranteed way to brighten your day and feel inspired about the next generation of humans.
