Prepare for a long-winded run on sentence that’s not even really about the show itself. 

I wish people would stop marketing it on tumblr as the most perfect, unproblematic show. It’s not, and to be honest I don’t particularly care that it’s had few problematic moments (with the fat jokes/asexual comment in s1 I feel like there’s only been like…5 or so things that I didn’t appreciate) but the fact that people push the idea that it is 1000% perfect does get irritating because it’s like…on tumblr whenever people see a show/person that they view as unproblematic it’s HAILED until it does (1) thing wrong and then people rag on it and try to rip it to shreds. So I always get nervous when I see it for B99 because on the tag sometimes you see people (who probably have only ever seen one episode or never watched to be completely honest) going “Hey!!!!!! This show is BAD because of THIS NEVER WATCH IT AGAIN.” And the fact that that’s done probably says more about them than the fandom but still, I think it’s a little irritating and honestly, nothing is ever 100% unproblematic so I feel like acting like it is is a bit unfair and doesn’t allow for proper, true criticism of things (or on the flip side, enjoying things for what they are).

The music was bopping in the club. Multicolored lights drenched the club, making even the dark areas look bright and cheery.

Gwen laughed as MJ put her hands on Gwen’s hips, and they swayed to the music. Gwen responded by putting her arms on MJ’s shoulder, and threading her fingers through MJ’s hair.

It was a light, airy night. No sadness, no heaviness, just fun.

The music sped up, and their dancing tempo sped up in return. Gwen tugged slightly, then configured herself so she pulled MJ into a half turn, leading to MJ’s back pressing up against Gwen’s chest.

“Love you cherry,” Gwen said against MJ’s ear.

MJ laughed. “Love you too,” she said, kissing Gwen in the middle of the club.

Oh gosh. I have so many and they’re all so disorganised. 

I’m fascinated by how deferential he is with Stakar. This is very much a ymmv thing, but my impression is that the reverence there went beyond the anxiety and guilt he would naturally feel at such a meeting and suggested that there was something habitual there - a hero-worship right from the start which was both deep and insecure. I think feeling like that towards your new boss/maybe-spiritual-leader after having been a slave would be incredibly difficult. That’s a really interesting relationship to me, especially contrasted with the Yondu-Peter one, in which their first contact gets in their way for pretty much exactly the opposite reasons.

I think it was clear in the film itself, but the vol2 script confirms that the character of Yondu’s ravagers overall isn’t actually in line with his own value system (they’re all jerks). His clan is defined by a mistake he deeply regrets, and he’s stuck there with them having to dance this line between what he wants to be doing and what they want their leader to be doing, and he has no outside backup any more, and there isn’t really a way out for him. He’s a tragedy. But I think he does feel a responsibility for them, even the worst of them, and keeps trying to balance between Keeping Them In Line and engaging with them reasonably (over percentages!) The fact that he kept them on side for twenty-plus years with a kid in tow is pretty impressive - I genuinely think Yondu is a natural leader doing really well with a bunch of people who are terrible at working together to any kind of long term goal. Also I still want fic of him - a guy who presumably came by the bulk of what education he has as an adult - trying to convey math to a bunch of violent impatient assholes who all think they’re right all the time already, and also Oblo, who is Trying His Best, and Peter, who is nine. And Tullk, who is just laughing the whole time.

Last thing is, I’m sad that all the mcu influenced versions of Yondu out there seem to be outright villains except the Telltale one, because I’m probably never gonna get more Yondu & Rocket being besties anywhere else, and they had so much potential for shenanigans.

Hi!! You can def expect like, an irritating amount of Mike material from me, tbh? I’ve always had a weakness for soft tols, and I have no shame about spamming people with my stuff, lol!

The weirdest bloody thing to me is when people make Harry a person of colour and still ship him with Draco. That’s… like, it’s among Draco and his friends where we see (the only?) non-coded anti-black racism in the books…

Yeeeeeah, though tbh as much as I enjoy POC interpretations of HP characters, I feel like fandom (especially white fans) is really not careful about how they do it sometimes, to the point where a lot of nuances are missed and Unfortunate Implications abound. (See: Dramione is already fucked up even with canonically white Hermione, given the racism allusions, but then shipping her with Draco when she’s not white is like, Y I K E S; and making Draco also of colour is like, uh, maybe don’t make the white supremacist analogue a POC, that’s not progressive at all??)

Though on the topic of Drarry, I just can’t with how much most of the Draco meta on this site is written by hardcore Drarry shippers who’ve totally misinterpreted the books. Like, if you ship it, that’s fine, I see why it would appeal to a lot of people (but Draco Malfoy: Queer Icon, really??), but I’ve read some truly bizarre THIS IS CANON meta about Draco’s personality and their relationship that’s like, but?? no??? that didn’t happen in the books????? Draco didn’t break Harry’s nose on the train in HBP because of sexual frustration canonically??????? Let’s not even get into the grossness of romanticising that kind of violence as gay love~ like holy shit????????

UGH YES. I was expecting the Jerry thing to go away in a few episodes as he got integrated into the team and/or people learned to see past what they didn’t like about him (as has happened with a number of other characters), but instead the show seemed to have picked up “everyone is awful to Jerry” as a recurring joke in just about every episode, and not in an accidental way, but straight-up bullying and even deliberately hurting him. I wish it would stop.

they are kind of a weird one. remember back at the start, when carol forces him to marry her, and they’re super weird, and then they divorce, but then they fall really in love, and get married again, and they’re still weird but also fantastic? i just love them!!!
