He resigns himself to the crick in his neck tomorrow morning and the aching that would spread from his shoulders down to his lower back whenever he makes the mistake of leaning down to pick up a toy car from the floor, injuries that accompany sleeping on the couch.

One hand keeps Phil pressed tightly to his chest as he carefully leans over, putting an end to the suffering of those upon the Nostromo as he hits the power off button on the TV remote. He could spend another day watching Sigourney Weaver remain the only intelligent person in her team, a familiar plight.

He's quick to shush the grumble of awakening as he disrupts Phil, the young boy disgruntled by his father's attempt to sleep in a way that would bring them both the most comfort available on such a worn couch.

Lying back with a four-year-old on his chest is far from the least comfortable situation that he's found himself in, it's a blessing of sorts to watch the rise and fall of his son's chest as he settles back into a world of sleep.

The quiet huff of breathe he receives in response is an invitation to join Phil in a blissful sleep.

I'm overall pleased with what I created and my work has never personally disappointed me, but I do have some introspective thoughts re: my work as the year comes to a close.

I know one of my goals this year was to spend more time on singular works versus making a ton of sketches in short bursts (my 2-3 hours after work). It test my patience and focus a lot, but I did manage to work on a lot of multi-day things! I still don't feel like a particularly quick artist, and learned I had a new thing to over come... the feeling of "flopping" if a 10+ hour fully rendered piece did worse than my quick sketches LMAO

Of course (obvious to me, I guess, since it's my life), I create for myself and may vent about going unnoticed or unappreciated - neither of which is entirely true anyways. If you ever see me feel low about my work, know it's not in a "my work sucks :(" way, it's in a much more "the world just isn't ready to recognize my genius" way. I dropped the woe is me routine years ago :v I'm not setting up my art to fail by telling ppl I think it's cringe or bad, I'm just mildly sad others don't love it as much as I do!

It always feels like a faux pas to talk about these sorts of things, y'know. I AM grateful for the support I've received over the years. I DO remember, and even save some, really nice comments / tags people leave! I think it's just natural, as a creator, to really question the worth of your work sometimes. For me, I always return to my roots: If I don't do it, then who will... *I* want to see a lot of cute and sappy art of my WoL and Gaius together! I've commissioned it, yeah, but I don't have nearly enough money to get all my stuff commissioned LMAO so I draw the bulk of it myself. And the process is fun to me! I do sincerely enjoy creating for the journey of it all.

I got a new printer as a very nice bday/xmas gift and have been printing out lots of my own work to marvel at. Idc if that sounds conceited bc there's one thing I've been learning hard and fast in xiv artist spaces where your blorbo is Public Enemy Number #1. And that is to validate myself and not wait for others to do it for me.

I look forward to seeing where my muse takes me next year! I hope there's some good Mewlsar in there... I have a few ideas that have been brewing for years while I wait to get to the level I feel comfortable tackling them!

I started this sideblog cause I had too many followers on my main and I didn’t want my stuff to be seen by that many people at first, so whatever I did probably isn’t what you’re looking for :( but really there isn’t much to it, just post whatever you like to draw, tag it as best as you can (but remember that only the first five tags appear in the search page) and be patient, since whatever you do at first you won’t get much attention anyway - the only real advice I can give is to draw something that makes you happy and that you’d draw anyway even if no one were to see it, it’ll make keep posting despite a possible lack of activity a lot easier!

I think part of the reason I can't deal w Twitter is the exact reason I refuse to leave tumblr, in that I've been on tumblr since 2006 and twt since 2008, and tumblr literally has not changed at all, not even a little, whereas going from the early days of twt where there were no corporate sponsorships or ads and you had to manually copy and paste someone's tweet and @ them to retweet it, to how it is now, like 90% ads and showing me shit from the timelines of people I don't even fuckin follow n whatnot, it's just not enjoyable. I feel like skz really do follow thru on their promise that they're a safe space for stays, it's nice to see that they hold space for anyone and everyone in their fanbase and do it in a really simple and elegant way, I feel. Like they never make it seem like "okay here are the fans and here are the token weirdos that were only recognizing to make a buck off of them" the way a lot of artists make it feel like 😑 like they don't go out of their way to act like it's some revolutionary act to do the bare minimum of not shitting on certain parts of the fandom, if that makes sense. “Hurry up Fred, Filch is right around the corner!” George whisper-shouts to his twin as he begins running in the opposite direction.

“Bloody hell, did he see the stick sap bucket?”

“See it? Oh Freddie, it fell on him.” George chuckles, slapping his brother five while rushing towards the common room.

Fred quickly whispers the password as Filch’s angry shouts grow closer and the twins laughs grow. They rush in and laugh together as the loud voice turns the corner and fades.

“Oh that was good, I’ll catch you later Fred.” George laughs, running up to their dorm while Fred chuckles to himself.

He’s about turn and sneak back to the hallways for a snack from the kitchens when a small voice catches his attention. Someone was singing.

He follows the voice deeper into the common room. He finds a gorgeous brunette sitting against a wall while scribbling something onto a piece of paper.

He watches your eyes light up every now and the when an idea strikes you and you jot it down, he finds himself dumbstruck staring at you, leaning against the wall.

But his hand slips and he falls right in front of you where you let out a small yelp.

“I wasn’t staring!” Fred stammers, standing and brushing himself off.

You open your mouth to comment, but are cut off by Fred again.

“O-Okay, maybe I was, b-but you’re really pretty- I’ll just go.” Fred mumbles to the floor as he turns to leave.

Your melodic laugh rings out and Fred turns again to see you standing and walking towards him.

“Hey, it’s okay, just scared me a little.” You giggle, extending your hand to him.

“I’m Oriana, or just Ori for short.” You smile.

“Nice to meet you Ori, I’m Fred.” He replies, nervously taking your hand and shaking it.

“You have a marvellous voice by the way, what song were you singing?”

“Oh, it’s actually my song, I’m writing it for my best friend’s birthday!” You chuckle, picking your paper from the ground.

“You write music?” Fred’s jaw drops.

“Yeah, would you like to hear some?”

Fred nods enthusiastically as he sits down in front of you as you flick your wand and conjure your instrument.

He watches in awe as you play and sing at the same time and he can feel his cheeks heating at your angelic voice.

Him helping you to write the song, but just getting distracted by you.

Cozytober 2020, Whouffaldi Edition! - Part 7

Long story short: I came across a prompt set for October this year that’s very chill and laid back, so I decided to try my hand at it. Each prompt is for a couple days and you can find it [here].

900 words; confession time: I was reminded of Danny Hate (not how some of you reading might think) and my immediate and visceral reaction is almost always to write fic in it with him, thusly making this take place in a Good Ending of s8 where he lives and whatnot; kinda sappy but idc

Cozytober Days 25-28: sunset; Even though it’s Sunday, the Doctor really, really wants to show Clara something.

The warm, aromatic smell of chicken and spices was filling the flat, letting it be known that dinner was impending, though still a while yet. Danny walked into the kitchen and wrapped his arms around Clara from behind, resting his chin atop her head as she stirred the sauce on the stovetop.

“I still say I should be cooking if it’s my flat,” he groused.

“…and I still say I cook a better biryani,” she smirked. Clara moved within his grasp, making his arms slack as she shifted in order to reach the pot of yogurt on the counter before spooning it into the sauce. “How about next time we have kedgeree at my place, it’s your turn.”

“You don’t like kedgeree.”

“That’s not the point.”

He took the empty yogurt pot from her and went to rinse it out in the sink. “I know; the point is that I feel bad.”

“Then let’s move in together and get you used to the concept of our kitchen instead of yours or mine. You know the offer’s still on the table.”

“Yeah, I know; I still need to get with my landlord about if I can break the lease early.” He felt her touch his arm and he looked, seeing that she had stepped away from the stove for a moment. Leaning down, he pressed a kiss to her lips, which he pulled away from soon as he heard a noise from inside the sitting room.

“I better go see what he wants before it’s dinner for three again,” Clara said.

“I’ll watch over the sauce,” Danny sighed. “At least it’s now and not while we’re trying to sleep.”

“It could be much worse than that and you know it,” she replied, patting his rear before leaving the kitchen. She saw the TARDIS finalizing her materialization in the middle of the rug and crossed her arms, waiting patiently. The Doctor popped his head out soon as things were stable, frowning at the environment.

“This isn’t your flat,” he said.

“It’s mine!” Danny shouted from the kitchen. “It’s Sunday!”

“He’s right, you know,” Clara mentioned. “What is so urgent you couldn’t wait until Wednesday?”

The Time Lord simply held out his hand. “Trust me.”

She did, though gave him a skeptical look as she took his hand and allowed him to lead her onto the ship. A few levers and switches and the TARDIS landed again, with him offering his arm this time instead. She took it and raised an eyebrow.

“Is my biryani going to get cold or burnt?”

“Possibly; I’m not sure,” he admitted. “I just found this, and knew I had to show you in person now before I forgot.”

The Doctor opened the door and led Clara out. As they walked across the purple grass of a clifftop, they were awash in golden light as three suns set on the horizon. The sky was greens and blues, with orange clouds catching the light playfully.

“…it’s beautiful…” she marveled. She leaned against his arm, smiling as she gazed out on the valley below them: rolling lavender hills and a pink lake with a stream.

“Is this an okay interruption to Sunday dinner?”

“Yeah,” she nodded, “I think so.” Clara sat down on the ground and let her eyes wander. The Doctor joined her, though his gaze was not on the landscape, but on her face as she took everything in. “What’s that down there?”

“Hmm…?” He looked in the direction she was pointing—a small spire of smoke lifting into the air from the far end of the lake. “Oh, those are the locals.”

“Let’s go visit them.”

“I’d rather not; they’re a bit on the xenophobic side, Laxxians, and I’d rather not make you a prisoner of war while PE has charge of the biryani,” he explained. She let out a low laugh and resumed leaning against him, allowing him to wrap an arm around her. “Susan and I ran into them once on accident, hence why we’re keeping our distance.”

“Can you blame them? You’ve always been such a charmer.”

The Doctor grunted in irritation—she didn’t need to bring himself into the conversation. Well… he technically brought himself into the conversation, though she was the one who continued with it, which was admittedly less than flattering. She gave his thigh a pat, though it was less comforting than was intended.

“Warts and all,” she reminded him.

“I don’t have warts, Clara. Those viruses don’t affect me.”

“You know what I mean.” She turned to him and gently pulled down his face so as to kiss him tenderly. “Don’t worry: you have just the right amount of charm.”

“Says who?”

“Says the most important person: the Impossible Girl.”

Unable to argue, he watched her go back to observing the valley, taking careful note of her face. He was still learning, but what he saw seemed promising: the slight upturn of the corner of her lips, the relaxing of her brow, the way the lids of her eyes drooped slightly in her content state. It was a good face to shuffle away in his memory, so that not only would he know next time how she was reacting, but was something to remember fondly in the times between Wednesdays (and the occasional interruption).

At least when they got back, the biryani was far from burnt.

You dyed your hair blonde, you did't have the same eye color, you were pretty much almost opposite of Elena, your twin and yet all eyes are on her, her and only her. And that made you snap, you sat on the couch, listening to how to protect your twin from Klaus. "Oh my fucking god! Can you all shut up?!" You exclaimed. Everyone's eyes turned to you. "You all wanna know what's so fucked up? She may be the doppelgänger but didn't it occur to you narrow headed people that Elena and I share the same blood?! But hey, Klaus could be stupid to think that he can also use my blood but yeah, lets just protect the one who looks like her after all I could just be his blood bag." You said and stormed up to your room. Everyone fell silent. Damon and Stefan frowned as they heard you pack. Stefan turned to Elena but before he could speak, you were dragging two bags down the stairs.

Damon sped up to the door to stop you. "You're not going anywhere, princess." He said. "Get out of my way, Damon." You glared at him. "You are not going anywhere–" "Let her go." Elena said, with her I'm-30-minutes-older-than-you voice. "What?" Damon knitted his eyebrows. "You heard her, let. me. go." You said and the great mysterious Damon got intimidated with your tone. He stepped to the side and you got in your crappy car, shut it, and drove. You drove endlessly towards the west and after a week of deciding whether this was the place to stop, you finally felt it. The town sign Grants Pass went into view and you stopped at a nearby diner. Before you can exit your car, you saw two men approaching and you held the wooden stake that was conveniently in your car.

You rolled down the window and the shorter one leaned down. "Is there anything I can help you with?" He asked. "I just got into town, I'm not looking for any trouble." You replied with a smile. "It's not really safe here, you better go." He said. You felt droplets of water into your arm and you looked at him and he was holding a small vial. "Excuse me, your water is dripping. And where I'm from, it's much dangerous." You said and eyed his hand. "She's good, Sam." You heard him yell from across. "How so?" He asked. "You know what, I'll tell you over coffee?" You offered and he looked weary. "It's really not safe to be here." He said. "I think I can handle myself." You said. You got out of the car but before you can make a step, a person rushed to you and bared his– fangs? "Oh are you fucking kidding me?!" You said as both guys shielded you from them.

That vampire put up a fight with the two guys and might as well help them you thought, you grabbed your stake and when the coast was clear you went ahead and stabbed that monster in the heart. The men looked at you, shocked but with the upper hand they got, they decapitated the vampire. "Um..." You started. "Are you a hunter?" The taller guy asked. "No? Kinda? Why didn't that thing like die when I staked it?" You asked. "Cuz they're... weird." The shorter guy replied. "I had to deal with vampire and I left and they're fucking everywhere." You tone was scary. "We gotta go." You looked towards your car only to find it smoking. "Ugh!" You screamed. You were on the verge of a panic attack but the shorter guy grabbed you into his arm as the other grabbed your bags from your car. You followed them to their car and you sat in the back.

"What's your name?" The taller guy asked. "(Y/n)." You replied fiddling with the bloodied stake. "My name is Sam and this my brother, Dean." He said and Dean raised his eyebrows at you. "Where are you from?" "Mystic Falls, Virginia." You answered. "You drove all the way here?" Dean asked. "Yeah." "Why?" You sighed. "I have twin who is more special than me I guess and theres this Original, one of the first vampires created is looking for my sister and she dating this vampire who has a vampire brother who's in love with her. It's all doppelgänger shit. All too messy." You explained. "Don't worry sweetheart, we handle messy too." Dean replied. "What made you drive all the way here?" Sam asked. "I didn't feel like stopping. Each place I end up in felt empty and the one place that made me want to hop off was a total wreck." You answered.

A complete silence surrounded you all as Dean drove. "You can stay with us." Dean said out of nowhere. You and Sam looked at him like he was crazy. "You trust me enough to let me go with you? I mean, I just need to hop off to a safer place, find a car, and let you two go on your merry ride." You said, shrugging. Sam and Dean conversed with their eyes and mutter and you waited for a reply. Sam looked behind to you with a smile. "We'll gladly let you stay with us, we just gotta make sure you're –not like them." He said and you smiled. "I'm grateful for your offer but I don't wanna be a burden..." You said. "I don't think you'll be, sweetheart." Dean said, meeting your eyes through the rear view mirror.

You aimed, an eye slightly closing and you took your shot. You smiled, putting the gun down. "Nice shot, sweetheart." Dean mused looking at your 1/8th an inch inside the bullseye shot. "The best one I've done so far." You commented with a chuckle looking at your low precision.  "Well, I think you can handle a dagger?" He asked. "Yeah? I think I can." You replied. "Back where I'm from, those types of vampires die with a wooden stake to the heart." You added. He raised his eyebrows with a slight frown and nodded. "Huh, guess there's many types of vamps." He said and you shrugged.

"Well, are you ready to go on the supply run?" He asked. "Sam coming?" You asked and you'd be lying if you didn't see a hint of hurt on his face. "Nah, said he wanted to stay to read the lores." He said. "Nerd." You muttered making Dean chuckle. "Well, let me get the list of what we need, 'kay?" You asked and he nodded, watching you intently as you walked away from him. You also would be lying if you didn't feel his gaze burning a hole through your shorts.

"Have fun!" Sam called out as you and Dean made way to the garage. You shook your head smiling, Sam had seen the connection you two had from the very first time you met. Dean have had this instinct to protect you when you thought no one would ever do, not the like the people you thought were your family.

"Hey, before you want to go to the store, want to grab some pie or something at the diner?" He asked, turning to you as you drove on the stretch of highway. You tilted your head to the side. "Are –are you asking me on a date, Winchester?" You asked. You sounded confident but inside, you were dying. His cheek turned a tinge of pink but hid it well with a smirk. "Dean, you remember the first night we met?" You asked, feeling suddenly shy.

"Yeah."

"I've stayed with you two for 3 years and despite the messy hunting life and demons and angels shit, I've never felt at home like I do this past years. And funny thing is, I feel most at home when you and I are together, like this or the at the gun range. I know I sound super sappy–" The car veered to the side and just as quick as lightning, Dean turned to you, hand softly cupping your cheek, his lips crushing against your like magnets.

Your initial shock was replaced with a sigh of relief.

nikolai - a) waking up with the sun and traveling to the largest museum he can find, followed by brunch at some hole-in-the-wall café tucked away in the city. the long drive home is spent listening to low-quality psychedelic indie rock, and when he and abigail arrive home, they nap for at least three hours. b) nikolai’s not really a jealous type, and abigail’s pretty clingy, so he doesn’t really have a reason to be jealous. although, when he's severely provoked, he’s prone to that tone of voice where it sounds as though you can’t choose between screaming, or crying.

klaus - a) perusing the local record shop, buying as many used vinyl he can possibly fit in his book sack, and listening to the new purchases in the dim-lit light of his bedroom while talking and napping in between. if he’s really into you, he’ll sing your favorite song—he might even play it on the guitar, too, if he can remember the chords. b) again, not much of a jealous type. most of his relationships have been nothing more than flings anyways, so he doesn’t often have the attachment to someone that would make him jealous, seeing as his relationships are often not exclusive.

anastasia - a) a long, early-morning walk through the aquarium, taking an extra long break to observe the sea turtles swimming about their tanks. she’ll gladly share all of her expansive sea turtle facts with you, if you promise to buy her a stuffed animal from the gift shop. afterwards, strolling downtown to shop in all the antique stores, then ending the date with lunch at her favorite restaurant. pls just let her talk your ear off and she’ll be satisfied. b) annie’s actually REALLY possessive, especially over her friends. she’s the type of person who will get offended if anyone else tries to say vaughn and caspian are their best friends, because, no? those are HER best friends? she’s never had a boyfriend before, but she can imagine she’d be just as possessive, if not more possessive, over someone she loved romantically. she takes from vlad :’)
