Storytime: In Which I Accidentally Gave my Husband a Pre-Game Ritual

So B is part of a pickleball league and they have games every Tuesday night. Over a year ago, when he started playing in this league, I jokingly gave him an overly dramatic kiss as he left and told him to "kick their asses, baby" in my best Mae West voice.

The following Tuesday, as he was leaving, he lingered in the doorway. "Is there anything you'd like to say to me before I go?" he asked leadingly. "Ah, darling, of course," I said, throwing myself into his arms. "You must kick their asses, baby." And then it became a bit. Every Tuesday. I walk him to the door. I breathily beseech him to lay waste to his opponent's posteriors. It's great.

Except today, I was working on a demo build for work, completely preoccupied. I was contemplating a beautiful world in which SAP had never been invented. I was not thinking about the fact that it was Tuesday; frankly, I was beyond conceptualizing the days of the week at all.

"I'm leaving!" B shouts from downstairs.

"Yeah, love you," I say. Where he is going? I don't know. All I know is that SAP sucks and if it was a flammable physical object, I'd readily set it on fire.

After a stretch of silence, he comes back up the stairs. He kisses my cheek. "Oh, SAP, huh. That sucks."

"Uh huh."

"Well, I'm leaving."

"Uh huh."

"Darling," he says. "I'm leaving."

"Okay??"

He is now becoming physically distressed and I manage to focus on something that is not my incandescent rage.

"Are you alright?" I ask.

"IT'S TUESDAY," my tirelessly analytical, practical, husband says. "I can't leave until you do the thing and now I'm running late."

And then it clicks.

"Oh! Right. Kick their asses, baby," I say.

He exhales with relief and hustles back down the stairs.

"Thanks! Love you! Bye!"

Trucks n' vans is so real y'all. I was on Enclosure right, on Engineer, on defense. My team is kicking BLU's ass hard and I'm feeling bad but I know my sentry's the only thing stopping their 3 scouts from rushing the cart, so I stick to Engie. Anyway we have a Sniper on our team and I tell you the SYNERGY I felt with him was crazy. While everyone else was running around loose, this man was all the way back here with me, siphoning my dispenser and I swear he was my guardian angel because he was protecting me with his life.

A soldier appears and tries to shoot my shit from afar? Sniper snaps him. A demo tries sticky bombing me? This Sniper glances at him and he's gone. The enemy Scout tries pistoling my sentry for some reason, should've never stayed still.

But most of all was this spy. This poor, poor blu spy wanted to take me out so badly. He was on me like red on a barn, he'd run in, sap my shit and jump me with everything he had. Didn't matter if it was in the middle of a firefight or if it was all quiet on the front, he would always ALWAYS show up. Legit this man even flew off the roof (zero idea how he even got up there) to assassin creed my ass. He wanted me six feet deep.

But if he was like red on a barn, our sniper was like gasoline-fueled fire on that barn, cause holy hell. This man was out for this french boy. Like, I'm real used to fighting spies off by myself cause everybody's prancing around in the middle of nowhere and I'm all alone on the left side of nowhere, but this sniper would jump in and tear this spy apart himself. Everytime he showed up, our sniper would jump him hard. He'd quickscope him, shoot him, knife him, jarate him, it was like watching the spy go through the seven layers of hell.

I'm very spy attuned, but it felt like this sniper and I were connected on a wavelength, cause he seriously always knew when I was in trouble, and he especially knew when it was trouble from the spy. Like I have never seen a sniper be as spy hungry as me and legitmately fight by my side like that. We would make eye contact and we would trample the spy together.

It was on the same level as playing medic and having a pocket who understands you so well you swear you are telepathically communicating. I've been playing engineer for years and I never felt or expected that from a sniper. Usually they use my dispenser and then run off, but this man was planted by my side. I felt cared for. I felt protected. I felt like Australian Jesus was watching me with a rifle at the ready. Much love to the snipers on my team use my dispenser anytime you want

Running Blind's plot would be really fun with like any other ship.

Demosolly is a hell of a lot more complicated and would allow for so much more angst (cross-team??? Bro. Bro.) (If soldier is blinded it still sucks but like imagine demo going fully blind. No working eyes at all, the angst potential of being just like your family before you)

Sniperspy isn't a ship I know well enough to judge but I'd say it probably fits best for a cross-team scenario. I don't think it'd work for them on the same team as much considering how much they counter eachother in game

But like engiespy. Engineer blinded? He can't fix it? Massive fucking problem, instant angst about having your biggest asset to the team taken away. I imagine the administrator would be pissed, maybe threaten to fire him or something. Spy blinded? He could pretend to be okay, except on the base he's fucked. There's no pretending to be normal or okay and god imagine the dadspy angst potential too. And back to the ship itself, the massive amount of trust that goes into letting someone be around you when you can't see. You see my vision right? It gets even more interesting if you consider cross-team possibilities for this specifically. Spy going to sap something, only to have the engineer notice him first, or being very sloppy and noticing that the engineer doesn't notice him.

HEY LOOK AT MY GAME BOY

This is Riftshot! A 3D plaformer based on movement and exploration! What's the big deal with it? Well, the main idea is that you have a grappling hook you can use to zip to and cling to surfaces, pull and pick up objects, attack enemies similarly to the sonic homing attack, and even harness and deploy elements such as fire, ice, electricity, and acid! What's the story? A self-proclaimed hero, Olive Midorsori is on a mission to destroy the aura sapping STARV Inc, to save her world from corporate exploitation. With help of her Rift-slinging best friend April, and her powerhouse of a teacher, Violette, nothing will stand in the way of her mission. Follow her on her adventure through the disparate biomes of Stargrove Island, collecting shards of a mystical aurora, and thwarting the plans of the nefarious Somno Snoozy! I've been working on this project for about 3-ish years now, and I hope to have a demo out by the middle/end of summer, depending on if I get enough playtesters or not. And yes I know there are a lot on Indie 3D platformers out there, but I really hope you guys consider playing this when it comes out! This is legitimately the corniest, syrupiest thing I’ve ever written in my entire life. Legit Fat Nuggets’ POV sopfest. Rated G for Generally Kind Audiences Who Can Handle Fanon.

Fat Nuggets woke with a snort. He bucked up against the comforter beneath and the warm, fur-bearing solids in front of and behind him. 

Vestiges of the demonic little swine’s dreams are replaced by the sight of Dazzle snoozing before him. 

Razzle lay behind the pig, little ‘bah’-like snores emanating from his maw as he slept just like his twin. The two goats had caged Fat Nuggets in, and the realization made his little body slump in relief. 

For a moment, Nuggets had worried that he and his Daddy were still in the claustrophobic quarters of “Val’s studio”. The pig could almost hear echoes of banging on the door as Daddy was forced out of a fitful sleep and pulled out of their room. 

For what, Nuggets had no idea.

Although intelligent, Fat Nuggets wasn’t quite sure what his arachnid father did to bring food home. All he knew was that Daddy often came home injured, crying, or uncomfortably quiet. So whatever it was, the teacup pig hated it with every fiber of his tiny demonic being. 

But that was then, and now, with a cock of his little head, Fat Nuggets looked over the sleeping Dazzle. Higher up on the giant bed were his daddy and mommy, also still asleep. 

It took some effort - a few grunts and indignant squeals as he tried to extract himself from the cuddle puddle between Razzle and Dazzle - but Fat Nuggets makes it out. He instantly trots up the length of the bed and beelines for his parents. 

Mommy lay on her side with Daddy behind her, some arms loosely curled around Mommy’s waist. They’re dead to the world until Nuggets butts against one of the arms. 

He poked and prodded with his snout, encouraged as Daddy grunted in his sleep and shuffled around to escape the incessant movement. 

After a full minute, the little pig huffed in annoyance. He doubled his efforts, until Daddy whines and relinquishes his hold on Mom to turn over and burrow deeper into the coverlet. 

As always, Mom is the first to wake. Her red eyes are glazed over with sleep but she offered a tiny smile to the miniature pig. 

“Good morning Fat Nuggets..” Mom rasped, maneuvering from under the luxurious comforter so that she could caress between Fat Nuggets’s horns. 

The pig oinked happily, nuzzling at his mom’s hand as she scratched at his ear. 

“Hungry?” Mommy asks. 

The demoness was already moving, legs lifting from under Razzle and Dazzle and over the edge of the bed to stretch. Fat Nuggets scampered into her arms and got comfy before she rose out of bed and made for the door.

“Nothin’ for Daddy?” 

Charlie smirked as she gently put Fat Nuggets back onto the bed. Instantly, her heart warmed to see the well-fed piggy make his way back to Razzle and Dazzle, still lethargic at the end of the bed. 

Angel Dust had spread out over the entirety of the mattress on his tummy, arms and legs splayed out as he looked at her coyly from the pillow. 

“We didn’t know you’d be awake.” Charlie said. “If you wanted breakfast in bed, you should’ve said something sooner.” 

Angel scoffed into his pillow. 

“Scooch ov-.” Charlie began to yawn before she was yanked down with a yelp. 

Razzle, Dazzle and Fat Nuggets all perked up in time to see the two roll back onto the bed. 

Nuggets snorted indignantly at the telltale sounds of smooching and giggling that followed.
