Santorini, an island in Greece, is on high alert today as more than 200 earthquakes were recorded in the past 48 hours. Tremors up to 4.9 in magnitude have caused schools to close and some residents to sleep outside or leave the island, fearing damage to buildings. Santorini has a population of about 15,500, but it welcomes upwards of 2 million tourists each year.

Pile 1
My Dear Sunshine,
From the moment I first laid eyes on you, my world changed in ways I never imagined possible. I remember that day so clearly the way you walked into the room with such grace, your smile lighting up the space around you. I was completely captivated. My heart raced, and I knew, in that instant, that you were someone extraordinary.
As we spoke, I found myself drawn to your kindness, your intelligence, and your genuine warmth. Every word you said, every laugh we shared, deepened my infatuation. I had never felt such a powerful connection with anyone before. You were like a breath of fresh air, and I couldn't get enough.
I often think about that first meeting and how it felt like destiny had brought us together. I am so grateful for that moment because it was the start of something beautiful, something I never want to end.
You have become such an important part of my life, and I can't imagine my future without you in it. I want you to know that my feelings for you are deep and unwavering. I am committed to cherishing you, supporting you, and standing by your side through all of life's ups and downs.
I promise to never let you go, to hold onto this incredible love we share, and to always make you feel as special as you are to me. You are my heart, my joy, and my everything.
Thank you for being the wonderful person you are and for allowing me to be a part of your life. I look forward to many more beautiful moments together and a lifetime of love.
Yours forever,

Pile 2
My Dearest Love,
Every moment without you feels like an eternity. I long for you with every beat of my heart and every breath I take. My days are spent thinking of you, dreaming of the life we’ll share. I am waiting for you, holding onto the hope that soon we will be together.
I have so many plans for us, my love. I imagine us exploring the world together, hand in hand. We'll travel to the places we've always dreamed of, wandering the streets of Paris, watching the sunset in Santorini, and walking through the cherry blossoms in Kyoto. Each place will be a new adventure, a new memory created with you by my side.
But more than the places we’ll go, it’s the journey we’ll take together that excites me the most. We’ll face the challenges of life, supporting and loving each other through every obstacle. We'll fight against the world if we must, standing strong together, never letting go of each other. Your strength and courage inspire me, and with you, I feel I can face anything.
Eventually, we will create our own world, a sanctuary built on our love and shared dreams. A place where we can be ourselves, free and happy, surrounded by the warmth of our love. I see us building a home filled with laughter, joy, and endless love. A place where our hearts will always find peace and where our souls will be forever entwined.
I miss you more than words can express. My heart aches for the day when we no longer have to be apart. Until then, know that I am here, waiting for you, planning our future, and dreaming of the incredible life we will share.
With all my love,

Pile 3
My lovely butterfly,
I hope this letter finds you well, wrapped in the warmth of your own beautiful spirit. There are so many things I want to say to you, so many feelings that often get lost in the day-to-day rush of life.
Firstly, please know that I see you. I see the strength in your independence, how you navigate life with such grace and determination. It's one of the things I admire most about you; your ability to stand tall even when the world tries to push you down.
I want you to promise me something, my love. Promise me that no matter what challenges come our way, you'll never lose hope of finding me. Promise me that even on the darkest days, you'll hold onto the belief that we are meant to be together, that our paths will cross when the time is right.
I cherish every moment we spend together, every smile you grace me with, every laugh that echoes through my heart. Your jokes, even the ones that aren't funny, they light up my world in ways you can't imagine. And your madness, oh, how I adore it. It's the spark that ignites our moments together, the unpredictability that keeps life exciting.
I want you to know that I'll never ask you to change who you are. Your beliefs, your dreams, your quirks, they are what make you uniquely you, and that's who I fell in love with.
I promise to always respect your individuality, to never force my beliefs upon you or mold you into someone you're not. Through the ups and downs, the twists and turns of life, I'll be there. I'll be your rock, your shoulder to lean on, your unwavering support. My love for you knows no bounds, it's a love that grows stronger with each passing day, with every sunrise we witness together.
So, my love, hold onto these words when doubt creeps in. Know that you are cherished beyond measure, loved unconditionally, and admired endlessly. Our love story is still unfolding, and I can't wait to see where it leads us next.
Wait for me

Oscar has been planning on proposing to y/n for a couple of months by now, already bought the ring, tried multiple times to propose to her but every time he felt too scared/ anxious to do it. One time Y/n accidentally finds the ring somewhere in their shared apartment
this is so cute! thanks for the request! ilysmmm. mwah!
tw: fem!reader, swears, scaredy cat oscar, lmk if you want me to add anything.
w/c: 2.2k
the sunlight peered through your window, through the see-through blinds you insisted on buying for yours and oscar's shared room. the way the light hits your resting features makes your man sigh out in bliss. every single morning he has the exact same thoughts when he watched you sleep, 'i need to spend the rest of my life with her'.
it had almost been a eight months since he first had that thought. seven since he acted on it and asked your sister to come with him when he was shopping for a ring. a second opinion does not hurt.
the ring had sat in his drawer for a good few weeks, maybe even a month as oscar contemplated how exactly he wanted to go about proposing. this was one area he was completely clueless for. give him literally anything else and he would be able to rhyme off the answer quicker than he could answer for himself. your favourite food? those cookies with the chocolate inside. your favourite film? the lego batman movie. clothes size? you were a small but in most t-shirts you preferred them in a medium so they were a bit baggier on you. how you would like to be proposed to? no clue. oscar knew deep down that it didn't really matter where he proposed, or even how he did it. he was sure you would say yes in if he proposed halfway through taking a shit. it mattered a whole lot to oscar, he wanted it to be a memory you looked back on with fondness and love.
the first time oscar tried to propose, it was a super traditional and basic way. the boy had booked for you to both head on a cute getaway before the season started back up again in february. you had always talked about wanting to go to greece, so he had booked you both in for two weeks in santorini. oscar carried the ring in his pocket the whole holiday even though he had planned out when he wanted to ask you.
the restaurant you had both just eaten in was probably one of the most expensive buildings you had ever been in. you told oscar so. he laughed in response.
"i think the paddock costs much more than than, love." oscars arm was around your waist as you walked alongside him, you were basically leaning on him at this point too. you snort at his words.
"fine, the most expensive looking building i've ever been in." you reword your sentence. oscar laughs. he swears he has never laughed as much as he had in those two weeks with you. oscar had ended guiding you both up to the top of this hill, you barely even noticed, too busy talking his ear off from the glass of wine you had drank with dinner. you were on holiday, why not?
there was a cute little bench that had fairy lights wrapped around it sitting pretty at the top of the hill, over looking the city and the ocean next to it. oscar encourages you to sit. he knew he had made the right choice to propose here when, a few days after arriving you had told oscar that greece was probably your favourite place in the entire world now.
you sit with your head on your boyfriend's shoulder as you watch the tide from far above. oscar fiddles with the ring in his pocket, nerves beginning to eat away at him. you grow quiet as your eyes twinkle in the moonlight. jesus, you looked like something out of his wildest dreams, oscar was sure of it. your voice breaks the comfortable silence between you both.
"i know this holiday isn't finished yet but i really have had the best time with you osc. i appreciate you doing this for me. you do too much for me, i want to pay you back for it all one day." your voice is a whisper because talking at a normal volume just doesn't feel right in the moment.
oscar's nerves get the best of him as you bare your heart to him. here you were being vulnerable with him and he couldn't even build the courage to ask you to marry him. the driver was so unsure of where the nerves were coming from, he was completely sure you would say yes, he knew you loved him yet his hand slipped out his pocket to move towards your thigh to give it a squeeze. a sweet kiss is pressed to your hair before oscar is whispering back his reply.
"me too, sweet girl. wanna stay here with you, forever." a part of his brain tells him that if he just proposed like he was supposed to then you would be able to do this with him forever and it would be promised. he shakes the thoughts from his head as he tells himself that now wasn't the right time awayways.
you had come back from that holiday, still his girlfriend and your finger still void of a ring.
the second time almost caused him to have a panic attack. this time it was less traditional and more relaxed. it had been almost two months since your trip to greece and the sight of your ring finger being bare sent oscar into a spiral every time he caught a glimpse of where that diamond should be.
you finally had him to yourself after a gruelling triple header. those races had actually given oscar some of the best results of the season so far, but it had taken it's toll on your relationship as you had barely spoken to your emotional support boy. the time zones messing you up, plus the fact that you had way too much school work to finish causing you to be forced (by oscar, himself. it pained him to do it but he knew how important this degree was to you and he was not going to let you throw it away just because you missed him and wanted to watch him drive in circles for an hour and a half for three sundays straight) to stay at home.
oscar was sure you would be waiting for him on the couch in your shared living room, it's your routine at this point. when oscar gets back home, it is the late evening. maybe around dinner time. he hopes you haven't waited on him to eat.
as the australian boy unlocked the door, he looked around the apartment. three weeks without his home comforts (you) had taken its toll on him. it is sort of dark in the hallway leading to the living room, the door to the room laying wide open. oscar can see the back of the couch and the blaring light of the tv. it was bright.
the ring had stayed at the back of his bottom drawer in his bedside table. it was right next to you, right where you slept without him for twenty-one nights without him. oscar was desperate to get his hands on you.
as soon as the threshold was crossed and oscar was in the living room with you, your perfume hit him like a brick wall. the brown eyed boy almost started crying at the smell, he had just missed you that much.
your laying on the couch, asleep. this actually surprised oscar. you were never usually asleep, you were so good at controlling when and where you fell asleep, waking up however... that was a different story altogether.
oscar takes your legs and lifts them up softly to slide in underneath them. he was not going to lay down next to you because he knew for a fact as soon as he fell asleep there would be no waking him up until at least midday tomorrow. you were like that everyday.
oscar admires you for a bit before the urge to propose to you comes creeping back. the desperation of being yours for the rest of his life, reared its ugly head as his eyes follow the swoop of your lashes against your cheeks. he thinks about shaking you awake to do it.
the boy is too deep in thought to realise you've woken up. it's like you can tell when he is in mental distress and you come to save him from himself.
"you're home." you mumble into the air. it is left hanging, not responded to as you sleepily blink yourself awake to finally get a good look at him. he's lovely to look at. as lovely as ever.
"you okay?" you ask him after period of silence that is too loud to bring any comfort.
oscar doubts he is any good for you, so for the second time he chickens out and doesn't propose, although it does send his tired and self conscious mind into a spiral that almost brings on a panic attack. he's quick to assure you he's alright, "just tired after all that flying." is his excuse. you believe him and do not have to try very hard to coax him into bed.
once you both had done your night routines next to each other for the first time in three weeks and oscar was laying practically on top of you, he thought about the ring again. just sitting in his bedside table when it should be on your finger as you brag to everyone you see in the shops that you were getting married to the love of your life. it will happen and oscar will see it, he just has to build the courage, next time for sure.
that had been four months ago. the boy didn't even try to think about attempting to propose to you, it all bearing too heavy still. the longer he took the more he talked himself into the idea of you not wanting to marry him.
so when you find the ring on a tuesday lunch time, it is safe to say oscar is shitting himself. oscar had been laying on his side with his head on your lap on the couch watching some documentary on whether or not the remains some archaeologist had found was really an alien or not. you were listening in as you scrolled through your phone, carding your fingers through his hair. it had popped into the brunette's mind that he had forgotten to order his sisters birthday present, it was sitting in the basket, ready to checkout but you had distracted him by asking him what he would do if you chucked your glass of water in his face. so he asked you to log into his account and get it for him.
"it's asking for your card details, osc. where is it?" you ask, reading out what the phone in your hand was saying. oscar groans at the thought of you leaving him for even a second physically hurting him. "bottom drawer of my bedside, love." oscar mumbles, concentration falling back onto the tv. unknowing he had just told you the location to the item that had been plaguing his mind for the past eight months. the realisation doesn't kick in when he hears your gasp, or when he is rushing through to your room to check in and make sure you are okay. it only hits when he sees you sitting on the floor in front of the piece of furniture, turning around to face him with tears in your eyes and a ring in your hand.
"is this what i think it is?" you ask him, voice shaking. oscar really is dumb because he cannot work out his you are crying with happiness or out of sadness. although he is quick to sit beside you, hands reaching for the ring but you pull it back out of his grasp, waiting for the answer.
"yeah," oscar sighs. "i've tried to propose to you twice now but every time i get too scared and don't. i've been trying to for eight months". oscar gets even more worried than he originally was when he sees your frown. there was no way he had just fucked this up with you.
"i could've been engaged to you for eight months?" you ask, you seem genuinely disappointed by this fact and that is what snapped everything into place in his brain. you wanted to be engaged to him. oscar jumps forward to wrap you into a bone crushing hug that makes your heart skip beats.
"i will marry you oscar." you tell him.
"i'm so sorry i chickened out, i don't know what was wrong with me. i could've been almost married to the most perfect girl in the world. my most perfect girl." oscar murmurs his apology into your hair but you had already forgiven him. way back before he had even apologised.
the light still beams into the room, oscar thinks about buying black-out curtains until he sees the way the morning light hits your eyes just after you have just opened them. although they close again much too quickly for oscars liking.
it is like you can feel oscar's stare because you grab his arm, pulling him closer to you.
"love you osc." you mumble into the pillow. eyes drooping again as your face relaxes. oscar presses a kiss to the side of your head as he whispers "love you even more, pretty.".

🗞️ oh whats that?? Lando norris caught proposing to long term gf in santorini! Get the scoop on who was invited and the large diamond he purchased! PS….she said yes 🫶🥺 congrats btw
EXCLUSIVE: Lando Norris Pops the Question in Santorini! Get All the Details on the Romantic Proposal, Guest List, and the Stunning Diamond Ring!
Love is in the air, and it seems our favourite McLaren driver, Lando Norris, has taken the plunge! The 24-year-old British Formula 1 star was spotted on the picturesque island of Santorini, proposing to his long-term girlfriend in a scene straight out of a fairy tale.
The Romantic Setting
Santorini, with its breathtaking sunsets and stunning caldera views, has long been a favourite destination for romantic escapades. Norris chose this idyllic location to ask the biggest question of his life. Witnesses say the couple looked utterly smitten, with Lando down on one knee against the backdrop of a golden sunset, creating a picture-perfect moment.
The couple has been dating for several years, keeping their relationship relatively low-key amidst the hustle and bustle of F1 fame. However, it seems they couldn’t keep this special moment under wraps, as eagle-eyed fans and locals alike caught glimpses of the magical evening.
The Sparkling Diamond
The talk of the town, however, is the dazzling diamond ring Norris slipped onto his fiancée’s finger. Sources close to the couple reveal that Lando went all out for the special occasion, choosing a stunning, large solitaire diamond set in a classic platinum band. The exquisite piece is said to be worth a small fortune, reflecting both his love and his status as one of F1’s young stars.
Who Was Invited?
While the proposal itself was an intimate affair, Norris and his fiancée were not alone. They were surrounded by a select group of close friends and family who were reportedly in on the secret and there to share in the joy. Among the guests were a few notable names from the racing world, adding a touch of glamour to the occasion.
Sources indicate that the guest list was kept deliberately small to maintain privacy and intimacy. However, with the couple’s wide circle of friends and Lando’s popularity, it’s no surprise that word of the engagement quickly spread. The event was said to be filled with laughter, tears of joy, and a fair share of champagne toasts.
A Look to the Future
The proposal marks a new chapter for Norris, who has quickly become one of the most beloved figures in Formula 1. Known for his cheeky sense of humour and incredible talent on the track, fans are thrilled to see him take this significant step in his personal life.
As the news breaks, congratulations are pouring in from fans, fellow drivers, and celebrities alike. The newly engaged couple has yet to announce any wedding plans, but speculation is already rife about when and where they might tie the knot. Will it be another exotic destination, or perhaps a more traditional ceremony in their native UK? Only time will tell!
For now, the couple is basking in the glow of their engagement, and we can only imagine the excitement building as they plan their future together. One thing’s for sure: if their engagement is anything to go by, the wedding is set to be an affair to remember.
PS: The Answer?
Oh, and in case there was any doubt, she said yes! With such a romantic setting and a beautiful ring, how could she not?
Stay tuned for more exclusive updates and inside scoops on this developing love story. From the racetrack to romance, Lando Norris proves he’s a champion in more ways than one!

Simynthos - (almost) cc-free
With all testing done I am happy to share with you the (almost) cc-free version of Simynthos today! I was actually surprised by how quickly it could be transformed, and I have to say I'm very happy with how it turned out!
For this version I removed all decorative cc. The only cc you now need for full functionality are the rabbit hole rugs. The lots are so small, there wouldn't have been nearly enough room for the in game rabbit holes. The rabbit hole rugs can be downloaded here.
I still recommend using the performance mods from the original post here, just to make things a little more smooth and enjoyable during gameplay. But they are not strictly necessary. You could also go completely vanilla (more on that below).
There are a couple of things to note:
Some of the double beds are placed against a wall and therefore only one sim can sleep in them now. You can replace them with the one sided beds for two sims, the ones I used in the original version, if you like. The mattresses by sketchbook pixels can be found here, and some nice custom bed frames from @aroundthesims can be found here.
I did make use of @omedapixel's S3DT (Sims 3 Decorator Tool) in two or three places, just to place decorative items on surfaces where they cannot be placed in a vanilla game. You do NOT need the mod for these items to stay in place, as long as you don't move them when redecorating. Then they may slip back into normal mode and you will only be able to place them back with the mod. But it's only in a couple of places, so even if that happens, it will not have a significant impact on your game.
Replacing some of the cc did result in some interactive items not being usable at first, but I hope I caught all of those cases during the (quite extensively 😉) play-testing. So now all interactive items should be usable. If you find any place where an item can't be reached by the sims, please notify me and I will update the world.
How does it run?
I have tested this version of Simynthos in two scenarios: With the routing optimization mods I recommended for the original version (that's the save all the screenshots are from 😉), but also in a completely vanilla game, playing just a small family with one child, and it actually ran pretty well on my gaming laptop, even without any routing improvement mods (my game is optimized though)! If you're going completely vanilla, it may get a bit annoying in some places though, with sims not being able to pass each other, and toddlers not being able to be put down on the ground due to lack of space. But if you do not want to use any mods at all, it would probably still be playable with a small household that doesn't host huge parties 😉
Thanks again to the creators who have made this world possible:
Thanks to @nilxis, the creator of „Sa Pineda“, for the beautiful base to this world. The island on which Simynthos was build is entirely their creation. I did not change the island itself or the terrain painting outside the lots (except for some places where I placed the walkways/paths). All credit for that goes to them! You can find the original version here. Also make sure to check out their other worlds, while you‘ re at it. They are some of my favorite worlds!
Thanks to @nornities for their extremely helpful CAW guide here. Unfortunately I only found this guide when Simynthos was almost finished. I could have avoided some of the mistakes I made, had I found it sooner!
Some of you may know, that I am not the first to make a Greek version of Sa Pineda. Back in 2016 Vendela created Simtorini. This super cute world has the typical blue and white houses another Greek island, Santorini, is famous for. Go check it out here.

However, what was supposed to be a peaceful vacation takes an unexpected turn when she discovers that they’ll be sharing the house with none other than Formula One driver Oscar Piastri, who’s also vacationing with his family.
At first, the arrangement feels awkward, the two worlds of celebrity racing and her relatively normal life as a collegiate student colliding in the most unforeseen way. As they explore the sun-drenched beaches, dine in quaint tavernas, and experience the lively nightlife of Santorini, Y/N and Oscar find themselves drawn to each other in ways they hadn’t anticipated.
As the sun sets over the Aegean Sea, and the lively energy of the island comes alive at night, Y/N and Oscar find themselves spending more time together, entertwined in a steamy and fast-paced romance. The backdrop of Santorini's iconic white-washed buildings, azure waters, and the laid-back Greek lifestyle set the stage for a summer romance that's as unexpected as it is intense.

Δεν θέλω να σε αφήσω
"I don't want to leave you."
Your POV
Synopsis- Sacrifice one of your characters who doesn't want to die and watch them beg to live.
Category- Heavy angst
Notes- I'm writing a full-length fic for Ao3 and experiencing major writer's block, so here's a prompt I stole from Pinterest. This will be a two-part story but there will be no happy ending so don't ask (I have a plan for how I want this written) I will write the fluffiest story I can to make up for it though. Stay tuned.
Warnings- Heavy angst, character death, conon typical gore and violence, no happy ending, I'm feeling very evil today, kidnapping, grief, murder, mentions of torture but no description, established relationship, flashbacks to make all this bearable. Poorly written medical scenes.
Word count- 2,883
⋆⁺₊⋆ ━━━━⊱༒︎ • ༒︎⊰━━━━ ⋆⁺₊⋆
Denial-
You were blindfolded, gagged, and bound in the back of a rattling van. As far as you could tell there were only two people beside you. One driving the van down a winding, bumpy road, and the other in the back with you- holding a gun to your forehead.
How could you have been that stupid?
How could you have let your guard down during a chase?
You were trained better than that.
The team had split up to cover more ground, two members in each direction. You were teamed up with Morgan, much to Spencer's chagrin. Ever since the wedding, he didn't like to be apart from you. But you had spotted a light shining off in the distance, its beam bouncing as if the owner was running. Stupidly, you charged for it, ignoring Morgan's call after you.
It wasn't until a bag was pulled over your head that you realized it was a trap. One that would pull you at least forty-five minutes away from the team.
The van jolted, bouncing up and down as if the road were littered with large rocks and potholes. Maybe it was, you had no idea where you were.
"Why can't we just shoot her? She's a cop."
Your gun-wielding captor murmured, pressing the barrel of the weapon harder against your head. Your heart was pounding but you refused to say anything, refused to give them anything they were looking for.
"Because, jackass, we need 'er. We could hold 'er ransom, she's obviously important. Did you see that one guy lookin' for 'er? I was scared he was goin' to start crashin' out."
"Ugh," The man in front of you presses the gun harder before pulling it away entirely. "Fine."
If your team was going to find you, you were going to have to do your part and get away. Leaving a trail was your best bet. Draw their attention to where you are heading if you can't get out. They were going to find you.
So, with a controlled deep breath, you kick your foot out to the man closest to you. Pride and energy exploded through you as soon as you heard that tale-tell sound of a gun clattering across the floor.
"What the fuck-"
You had managed to get both the gag and the blindfold off, your eyes adjusting to the brightness of the sun streaming in through the windshield and windows. You didn't let it deter you. Quickly you strike, kicking the man once again as you struggle unbinding your hands.
The van swerves and you lose your balance, falling to the ground and landing in a heap of twisted limbs. You didn't have enough time to react as the man towering above you brought the butt of the gun across your skull.
⋆⁺₊⋆ ━━━━⊱༒︎ • ༒︎⊰━━━━ ⋆⁺₊⋆
Anger-
The sky was a vibrant blue with no cloud in sight. Spencer fussed over the use of sunscreen. He didn't want the honeymoon to be ruined over something as preventable as a bad sunburn. You let him dote over you, his wandering hands rubbing the sunscreen over your face and shoulders.
He was so handsome in his thin, white linen shirt and dark slacks, that leather satchel strapped across his chest like always. The two of you were at the beach, the city of Santorini glistening behind you with its bleach-white buildings and cobalt roofs.
When Spencer looked over to you, his sunglasses reflecting the pure joy on your face, he grabbed your hand.
"I'm so excited for forever with you."
"Me too, Spence." - You were tied up to a rusty beam, arms stretched high above your head, toes just barely touching the ground. Your arms ached, your head throbbed, your body was sore. But you still fought, still writhed in place to wear down the rope digging into your skin.
"They'll fucking find you!"
You scream, throat scratchy and ragged. It had been hours since you had been tossed into the basement and unceremoniously tied up. Could it have been more than that? Days? Weeks?
No one answered. Still, you kicked the air, threats echoing into silence. You were literally talking to a brick wall that this point.
"Do whatever you want to me, I'll never talk."
You spit at the ground, ears catching the faintest scrape before the door swung open. Two men and one woman approached. By the looks of it, with her head held high and her confident strut just a few feet in front of the men, she was their leader.
"What the fuck do you want with me, cunt!"
You scream again, energy and anger returned now that you have something organic to yell at. She grabs your face, dagger-sharp nails digging into your cheeks as she squeezes so hard she forces your jaw open.
"Watch your mouth, bitch."
"Make me."
She chuckles darkly, the sound so evil you feel it taint your soul.
"You heard the lady." She snaps her dangerously manicured fingers and the man to your right steps forward. "Make her."
Hours pass and you don't know how much longer you could take their torture. Knives, whips, waterboarding. Anything they could get their hands on, they used. But the lives of your team were at steak. If they weren't already on their way to rescue you.
Blood was lost and skin was ripped. You were kept awake, on the brink of consciousness for so long that you didn't think anything was real anymore. This was supposed to be an easy case, in and out. Spencer promised that he would take you out to dinner; a cute little Greek place that reminded the two of you of the honeymoon.
It was almost like you could see Santorini again. The blinding bright light of the lamp above you twisting and swirling into a midday sun. The sweltering hot heat of the basement bled into the summer air as the two of you walked from one bookstore to the other all the while Spencer rambled on about something you couldn't remember.
The brick walls morphed into the stark white walls of the Air B&B Spencer had rented, with its open windows and stone floors. And soon you were trailing behind Spencer, trying to keep up with his long legs as he pulled you down the cobblestone street.
Your face suddenly stung, your cheek igniting in a powerful blaze that ripped you out of your daydream.
"Wake the fuck up."
You spit in her face and feebly kick at her shins as you continue to dangle. You were too tired to do anything else.
She clicks her tongue at you, smiling a snake's smile.
"Your friends should be here any second. And if they play nice, I might let one of them live."
"You touch-"
Another slap, this time to your other cheek. That fire inside of you, the one that kept you going for however long you'd been there, was slowly dying. You were slowly dying.
⋆⁺₊⋆ ━━━━⊱༒︎ • ༒︎⊰━━━━ ⋆⁺₊⋆
Bargaining-
They had set up a camera. It was an older model that sat on a tripod directly in front of you. On the table to your left sat an old landline; it was on speakerphone. You could hear your team making deal after deal for you, and you could only assume the camera was for them.
"Please..." You whisper, your voice meak. You were so tired, eyes heavy and body numb. You felt like you were floating.
The woman was gone now, her two goons watching you from the table. They refused every deal Hotch made. You don't know why they refused or why they were keeping you here. What did you have that wasn't already offered by your boss?
The man to the left, Dimitri as you learned, grinned an awful smile as he watched you dangle like meat on a hook.
"I'll kill you, you son of a bitch-"
You briefly hear Spencer's voice over speakerphone, the sound like a mirage in the middle of a desolate desert. It pulled you further into the memories that kept you from breaking.
"I love you so much, my darling..."
Dimitri stood, chuckling as you heard a scuffle from the other end of the phone. Spencer was most likely pulled away from the table, kicking and fighting as Morgan took him out of the room.
Your mind was slipping, switching back and forth between fantasy and reality. Soft kisses you could almost feel. The blinding pain in your wrists as the rope rips your skin. His shining smile as you say 'I do'. The throbbing ache all across your body where those fucking monsters continue to cut. The silk sheets sliding against your skin as Spencer kisses down your body.
Finally, Hotch made a deal they seemed interested in. A one-way ticket to dissappear without the threat of the government chasing after them.
"I guess we don't need you no more. It's such a shame, I was just startin' to like ya."
Dimitri raised his gun, the barrel aimed at your temple. It was so close, the bite of the metal against your skin sending adrenaline-filled shivers across your body.
"No, please!" You try, energy coursing through your body as the reality of the situation kicks in.
"Awe, little miss thinks she can plead her way out of this."
The other man, Kyle, joined in. His joy was just as twisted as Dimitri's.
"I don't want to die! You got what you want, please. I have a husband, and a life, and friends!"
You heard somewhere that if you recite your life, your loved ones, and memories, you'd remind them that you were human.
"Boo fuckin' hoo," Kyle mocked as he walked towards the phone and hung up on your team. He moved the camera closer, one last fuck you to the government that failed them.
"You don't understand, please. We got married three- three weeks ago, Penelope’s birthday is next week and I haven't gotten her a present yet. I haven't, I haven't seen my parents all year. Please put the gun down, put it down, please. "
He cocked the gun and squeezed the trigger.
You brace for the pain, the pressure you'd imagine you'd feel. But it didn't come.
"That shit won't work on me, sweetheart. I don't give a shit whether or not you have a litter of ankle biters and plan on meetin' with the president. You're not getting outta this."
"Why?"
"Because I like the look on your face."
Another click. You didn't know if there was even a bullet in the chamber, but every time he pulled the trigger, you flinched.
"This," He drags a meaty finger down your cheek, collecting the tears that were spilling. "Is why."
He licked the tear off his finger, grinning like a madman before pulling the trigger for the sixth time. This was it. Everything happened in slow motion, the release of the gun, the maniacal cackle of the men before you.
Still, you were alive. Still, you were dangling in that basement.
"Please!"
Is all you can say.
"Please stop,"
All other words disappear from your vocabulary.
"Stop, please. I don't wanna die!"
You were rendered a rambling child, begging for a chance to live while they played God with your existence.
Suddenly, you hear an explosion of sound above you. Thundering footsteps, gunshots, falling bodies. They found you.
"I'd say your last words now, mother fucker because you'll never be a free man again."
Dimitri growled in your face. He leaned in real close, his putrid breath fanning across your face.
"And you'll never make it to your one year anniversary."
Boiling, white hot pain spread from your stomach. A knife, its blade twisted in your guts before Dimitri and Kyle are tackled to the ground.

Depression-
The salty air blew gently across your heated face, the crashing waves like music around you. Spencer pulled you out of the Air B&B after dinner, dragging you down to the beach where he convinced you to a late-night swim.
It was severely out of character for him, but he was just so happy to be married, to be by your side, that he allowed his impulses to rule the night.
The full moon was your only source of light, but you could be blind and still find your way beside him. He was loose and carefree in a way you've never seen him before.
The two of you were waist-deep in water, the tepid waves lapping at your bodies. He held you, one hand in yours and the other on the small of your back, as the two of you rocked to the sound of the ocean.
"I don't think I've ever been this happy before."
He confessed, his face bright. He was looking at you like you were the only girl in the world, and at the moment - with the beach empty - you felt like it.
"Me neither, Spence."
"Please stay with me..."
His voice was different. It was strained, not at all matching the blissful expression on his face. Spencer sounded far away, panicked. All at once, the comfortable warmth of the summer night ocean turned boiling.
Wet, blazing warmth spread across your stomach and leg.
"What?"
"Come, on. Wake up, please. Stay with me."
"I don't want to leave you, Spence."
You were so confused. You weren't going anywhere, not anytime soon. Especially not now.
His face screwed up, his brows drawing in. Tears you didn't notice fell from his lashes as his chin wavered.
"Then stay with me, please."
The night sky disappeared. In its place was a white ceiling. The sound of crashing waves turned into wailing sirens and blunt orders. Spencer's hands around your body turned into the straps of a gurney.
"Spencer?"
You didn't know where he was, your mind still desperately grasping that memory.
"I'm right here, baby. I'm here."
Spencer leaned over you and his worried face was in your vision. He placed his hand on your face, his thumb tracing idle circles into your cheek.
"Where are we?"
Where did the ocean go? You miss it terribly.
"We're on our way to the hospital, darling. You're going to be okay. "
You had the feeling that he was saying that more to himself than to you. But it was comforting nonetheless.
Your eyes felt too heavy, your body too cold. It didn't feel like you were in an ambulance, it felt like you were floating in the ocean, your body suspended in time.
"No, no, no!"
Spencer yelled.
Why was he yelling? You were having such a good time at the beach.
"Baby, please!"
He tapped your cheek, his hands suddenly too warm.
"Calm down, Spence."
Words spilled out of your mouth like molasses, your tongue sticking to the roof of your mouth.
"Were in Greece..."
⋆⁺₊⋆ ━━━━⊱༒︎ • ༒︎⊰━━━━ ⋆⁺₊⋆
Acceptance-
"Scalple."
There was an insistent beeping.
Everything was dark, your body floating in a void that was all too familiar.
Muffled murmurs, a metallic release of air, something wet.
"Baby?"
You turn, and the darkness bled into a soft light. You were in Spencer's apartment, arms and legs tangled with his.
"Yes, my love?"
"I'm going to miss you."
You prop yourself up on your elbow and tuck a piece of hair behind his ear.
"What do you mean, dork? I'm not going anywhere."
Spencer looked so sad.
"What's wrong, Spence?"
He pulled you forward with both hands on your face. Spencer kissed you deeply, his lips moving over yours in a way that had your heart soaring.
When he pulled away, he tucked you under his chin.
"Nothing, just rest."
The sheets were not as soft as your remember, his body not as warm. Something was off. And then it hit you. The van, the torture, the knife.
"I'm dying, aren't I?"
Spencer said nothing, only pulling you closer.
"Did I at least get to say good bye?"
A kiss to your forehead but still no comment.
"Spencer, say something please..."
"The time I spent with you had been the best years of my life."
Oh god.
"Don't say that, baby."
"You'll always be the love of my life. No one will replace you."
"No, Spencer. Stop."
"I'll see you soon, my darling. You better be waiting for me on the other side."
You claw at him, begging him to stop saying such stupid things. But he doesn't respond, only settling further into the bed and holding you as tight as he could.
After a while, you give up and hold onto him as well. You lay there, in his arms, for so long you start to relax.
"I'll wait for you, Spencer. But do me a favor."
He finally looks at you, tears freely flowing down his face.
"Don't subject yourself to a lonely life just because I'm not there. If you meet someone, you meet someone. I just hope they make you happy. That's all I want."
He smoothes his hand down the back of your head.
"Promise me, Spence."
"I promise."
You knew he was lying, but you also knew this wasn't Spencer. It was your subconscious mind preparing you for departure.
You stay in his arms after that, imagining what awaited you on the other side.

CHAPTER NOTES: When I finished writing this chapter, I thought to myself, they're gonna love this one, and I really hope you do!<3
After a few hours of travelling, we finally landed, the private plane Tony had let us use making me so happy. It was a calm flight, and truthfully I had spent most of it sleeping.
Bucky leads me out from the plane, a sly smile on his lips. We left the airport and I looked around, it was hot, and the sky was blue, and white buildings surrounded me.
"Welcome to your honeymoon, doll" He grins.
"Where are we Bucks?"
"Santorini, Greece" He answered smirking.
"It's beautiful" I whisper, he leads me towards a car.
"Wait till you see the place I've booked for us" He grins.
He opens the door for me and I climb inside, he follows and tells the driver a destination I missed. Finally we pulled up into a hotel car park, it was beautiful, another white building with so much foliage around it. If I stood on tippy-toes I could see the view of the sea beyond.
As we walked towards the hotel I turned to Bucky.
"I hope Jamie will be okay without us" I say quietly, worried. Bucky turns to me, his gaze gentle.
"She''s be fine, Steve's there, plus the rest of the team, they'll take good care of her"
I nodded and gave him a quick hug.
"What shall we do first? Check in and...?" I ask, smirking. Bucky smirks back, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Oh I think you know exactly what to do first, doll. Let's check in, drop our bags, and then..." Bucky leans in closer, his voice low and suggestive. I followed him into the hotel, looking around at the scenery as I do.
The lobby was spacious and tastefully furnished with a few comfortable seating areas and a large reception area.
"Welcome to our little paradise" Bucky grins, he checks us in, collecting our keys. "Let's get to our room, it's suppose to have a great view of the sea"
"Oh really?" I ask excitedly. Bucky nods, a twinkle in his eyes.
"Yep, I made sure to book a room with a view, thought it would be romantic, you know?"
"You're so smart" I giggle.
"Nah, just hopelessly romantic, can't help myself when it comes to you"
"Sweet talker" I smirk. We step into a elevator, pressing the button to the top floor. Bucky grins, leaning closer to whisper in my ear.
"Can't help it, gotta remind you how much I love ya" He says quietly, nipping at my earlobe playfully.
"Bucks, wait till we're in the room" I say bashfully.
"Oh alright, I'll be patient. For now. But once we're in the room...all bets are off" He grins.
"Of course, Mr Barnes" I answer playfully.
"Mr Barnes, huh? You keep calling me that, and we might not make it to the room without me pouncing on you first"
I playfully slap his shoulder, he then pulls me out of the elevator and down the hallway. Once we reach our room, he opens the door and leads me in. I was taken away with how beautiful the room was.
The room was spacious and elegant, with a large window that offered a breathtaking view of the sea outside. The bed is fluffy and soft-looking with a crisp white comforter. There's a small seating area in the corner and the bathroom is adjacent to the bedroom.
"What do you think doll?"
"It's beautiful" I whisper.
"Yeah it is. But it's not the room that's beautiful. It's the woman I have the privilege of sharing it with"
"Oh Bucks" I whisper, turning to face him, leaning forward I kissed the corner of his mouth. He moves slightly, capturing my lips in a bruising kiss.
"Mr Barnes, would you like to take your new wife to bed?" I ask, grinning, my lips brushing against his as I talk. Bucky's pupils visibly darken, his eyes roam over me hungrily.
"I'd love nothing more, Mrs Barnes" He then scoops me up into his arms, holding me against his chest as he strides towards the bed. I shiver at his words, giggling softly as he gently lays me on the bed. He moved to hover over me, his hands braced on either side of me, trapping me beneath him.
"You like that? Being called Mrs Barnes?" He asks, his voice low and possessive.
"Fuck, I love it, maybe as much as you like being called daddy" I said, my nose bumping his. His hips connect with mine as he starts to grind down against me, his already hard cock evident as it rubs against my core.
"Doll, you know you're playing with fire when you call me that" He whispers.
"I'm yours, in every possible way Bucks, take me? Please?" I beg, not caring how pathetic I sounded.
"You're mine" He murmurs, his lips brushing against the sensitive skin of my neck.
"Please" I whispered, needing more. Bucky's lips moved from my neck up to my ear, his hot breath against my skin as he speaks.
"Please what, doll? Tell me what you want, I want to hear you say it"
"I want you to fuck me, make love to me, Bucks, please"
His hips grind harder against me, the outline of his cock rubbing perfectly against where I needed him most.
"I'm gonna do all those things and more, doll" He says as he starts undressing me slowly, his hands exploring every inch of my exposed skin. I move my hands over his body, taking his clothes off.
Bucky pulls back when I was nearly naked, only in my underwear, his eyes looking over my body appreciatively.
"God, you're so beautiful, always have been" He whispers, he then moves his lips to kiss my chest, slowly making their way south.
"Even after having your baby?" I ask, my eyes trailing over the stretch marks over my lower stomach. Bucky's head shoots up to look at me.
"Doll, you're even more beautiful BECAUSE you had our baby" His hands gently run along my stretch marks, his touch gentle and reverent. "These are from carrying our Jamie, your body changed to grow our daughter inside of you. How could that not make you more beautiful?"
"Oh Bucks" I say quietly, forgetting any insecurities I was feeling "You're, fuck, you're so perfect. I'm glad we stopped hating each other, you're the love of my life"
Bucky's eyes soften, his hand coming to rest on my cheek, his thumb stroked my skin tenderly.
"I'm so glad we got over our own stupidity. You're my world, my reason for living. Nothing else matters but you and Jamie" He moves to press a kiss to my forehead, his voice thick with emotion as he speaks.
Bucky carries on worshipping my body, his lips touching my chest, my stomach, everywhere he could get his lips on. He whispers words of endearment and praise against my skin.
"You're so gorgeous, so perfect, can't get enough of you" He whispers as he trails his tongue from my bellybutton to my lower abdomen. His hands moves to my hips, holding my in his grasp as his eyes look over my special lacy underwear I bought special for this moment. They were light purple, sheer with slight ruffles around the edges. They weren't the usual sort I wore, but I knew Bucky would like them.
Slowly Bucky pulls the underwear down, his eyes not leaving my skin as he does.
"I could spend hours admiring you in underwear like this" He whispers, I giggle softly and help kick off the underwear, leaving my completely naked. His lips first touch my hips, pressing a small kiss to one side, and then to the other.
He looks up at me with a smirk, his perfect blue eyes shining up at me, I could feel his breath over my wet centre. I opened my legs a little further, smirking down at him. Bucky lets out a low growl and moves forward pressing a kiss to my clit. I whine and wiggle slightly, causing him to chuckle.
And finally, he opens his mouth and presses his tongue flat between my wet folds. I gasped loudly, my stomach tightened as he moved slowly, spreading me with his tongue. His lips find my clit and suck it into his mouth, flicking his tongue over the bundle of nerves. I moan loudly, and move my hands to his head, weaving my fingers through his hair, he moans against my skin, his mouth hot on my skin.
"Buck!" Yes..oh!" I squeal loudly as I feel myself come hard over his lips, my pussy flooding with pleasure coating his mouth and beard throughally.
"Fuck, I can't wait" He groans sitting up, he moves to hover over me. His hand taking hold of his painfully hard cock, I could see precum dripping from the head.
"Ready baby?" He asks, I nod excitedly. He moves the head of his cock though my drenched folds, spreading his precum over me, mixing it with my own juices. I moan softly placing my hands on his shoulders, he moves slightly pressing his lips to mine.
As he kisses me he starts to push his length into me. His hands hold onto my hips tightly as he fully pushes himself inside of me. I moan contently, the familiar feeling of him inside of me, it felt perfect, like it was made to be.
I move my lips away from his, catching my breath, I begin moaning loudly as he starts to slowly thrust in and out of me.
"Oh! Bucky! Yes, fuck...I love you...I love you" I chant as he moves fast, his lips find my neck, nipping and kissing at my skin, his actions sloppy as he fucks harder into me. His breath hitches as I clench my pussy around him, the stretch around him delicious.
"Fuck" He moans loudly as he slams his hips into mine, his cock empting inside of me, I moan loudly feeling my own release hit me, our orgasms hitting us and turning us into moaning messes, gripping onto one another.
After a few moments, both sweaty and shaking a little, our foreheads were pressed together with our eyes closed. I giggled softly, finally looking at him. His eyes opened and met mine.
"You swore"
Bucky laughs breathlessly, collapsing gently on top of me, his face now tucked into the crook of my neck, his breath hot against my skin.
"You never swear" I say, giggling again. Bucky nuzzles against my collarbone.
"You make me feel so good, doll" He whispers, his lips kissing my skin gently. "I love you"
"I love you, should we nap?" I ask, desperately wanting a nap.
"Ooo, a nap sounds really good Mrs Banes"
I giggle again, I get up and quickly clean off in the bathroom, noticing the large bathtub that I would use for sure, I crawl back onto the bed, snuggling into Bucky, his eyes were shut already so I laid down and closed my eyes, allowing sleep to take over.

The Beginning in the End
After his gentle suggestion, it's all she can think about, a new life away from everything they'd endured. A life where she, Aaron, Jack and the tiny baby growing beneath her skin could live in relative peace.
A life where none of their monsters were waiting for them in every shadow or around every corner.
-x-
Hi friends <3
This massively, massively got away from me. I know none of us are surprised. This is based on this ask and the Instagram post series it inspired!
This one sparked my anxiety for some reason, I think because it's not AU but it also kind of is....anyway, I'd really appreciate knowing what you think!

Emily huffs out a breath as they step onto their porch, her arms crossed over her chest as Aaron digs through his pocket for his keys. He smiles as he turns back to look at her, the slightly forlorn expression on her face nothing short of adorable.
“You know,” he says, placing the key in the lock and turning it, pushing their front door open before he steps towards her, his hands on her waist as he pulls her closer, “If you were anyone else, I’d think you were pouting.”
“I don’t pout,” she narrows her eyes at him as he stamps a kiss against his lips. She says, her words muffled between kisses as she wraps her arms around his shoulders. She hums as she kisses him, her fingers trailing through his hair before her hands drop to his shoulders. She smiles as she rubs the material of his shirt between her fingers, “I will miss relaxed, honeymoon you though.”
Aaron chuckles and kisses her, his hands firm against her lower back, “It had to end at some point, sweetheart.”
It had been a week of pure bliss. Just the two of them in a villa she’d paid a little too much for in Santorini. Seven days spent celebrating their love for each other, sunbathing and barely keeping their hands off each other. They rarely had time just for themselves so they treasured it, spent every moment just being with each other. She was looking forward to seeing Jack, to seeing the team, but she would miss the time she’d had with her husband, how soft and relaxed he was in linen shirts she’d packed for him and a beard she knew he’d shave off at the earliest opportunity.
“Shame,” she mutters, starting to step back from him, but he stops her, a smile flashing across his face as his hand slips down from her back to her thighs, his fingers skimming under the hem of her shorts as he pulls her upwards. It makes her yelp, her arms tightening around his shoulders and her legs around his waist, “Aaron,” she laughs, joy dripping from her voice, “What are you doing? What about the suitcases?”
“I’ll get them in a minute. It’s tradition,” he says simply, adjusting his hold on her as he turns back towards their front door, “I’m supposed to carry you over the threshold.”
She laughs and kisses his cheek, “Maybe if we were in our 20s,” she mutters, rolling her eyes when he continues forward as if she hadn’t spoken, “Fine,” she says, hiding her smile, “But if you hurt your back I don’t want to hear about it.”
“Yes ma’am.”
She sighs contentedly as he walks them into the house, the familiar comfort of it washing over her, pushing away some of her remaining post-honeymoon blues. Aaron kisses her again as he squeezes her thighs, his fingers pressing into bruises barely covered by her denim shorts. He made no secret of the fact that he loved relaxed, honeymoon her just as much as she loved that version of him, but he was excited for the future too. Excited for the life they would continue to build together.
“Put me down,” she giggles against his lips, unhooking her legs from around him as he settles her back down to the floor. She smiles as she pulls back from him, “You’re a silly, sentimental man sometimes,” she kisses him again, “But you’re my silly sentimental man.”
He winks at her, a spark in his smile that she knows the rest of the team would never believe existed. A part of him for her and Jack and the future children that they were already trying for that she would do anything to protect. He’d fought for it, fought to stay soft and kind after everything that happened to him and she’d done the same.
“All yours sweetheart,” he says, catching the corner of her lips with his before he steps away, “I’ll get the suitcases.”
She nods and steps further into the house, smiling curiously as she spots a box tucked just inside the front door. Jessica had been over whilst they were gone so she must have brought it in from the porch. Emily lifts it and rolls her eyes when she sees a card on top of it, Clyde’s distinctive handwriting staring up at her. She steps into the living room and puts the box down and opens it, smiling softly when she sees half a dozen champagne glasses, a brand that she knows her friend loves embossed on the inside of the box. She sits on the couch and opens the card, raising her eyebrow as she reads it.
Darling,
Congratulations. Pass on my regards to that husband of yours.
Make sure you use these glasses to celebrate both the marriage and the job when you finally take me up on my offer.
Clyde
She shakes her head and lets the card drop to her lap as the front door closes. She smiles at Aaron as he walks into the room and joins her on the couch, “Jess is bringing Jack home after school. He’ll be excited to see us,” he says, wrapping his arm around her shoulders, tilting his head at the gift on the coffee table, “Who is that from?”
“Clyde,” she says, passing him the card, “He sends his regards.”
Aaron hums as he takes the card from her, his wry usual comment about her old boss dying on his lips as he reads it, “What does he mean when you finally take him up on his offer?”
She suppresses a yawn, the time difference finally catching up with her now she was home, “Oh, every time he gets in touch he offers me that job again,” she shakes her head, “Apparently he’s keeping it open for me in case I change my mind.”
It had been just over a year since she’d turned down his initial job offer. If it hadn’t been for Aaron, for the relationship that had come out of nowhere and somehow been right in front of her the whole time, she thinks she would have gone. That she would have taken the opportunity to start again, to be somewhere new where she wasn’t haunted by the versions of herself that no longer existed. She hadn’t even considered it when Clyde asked, already turning him down before he could finish. Aaron had asked her if she was sure. A failed attempt to cover his pre-emptive heartbreak painted across his face as he told her she could go if she wanted.
She’d kissed him and told him she wasn’t staying for him, but for her. For the first time in her life, she felt happy, the good days outweighed the bad, and she was done sabotaging her own chances at the happy ending she now knew she deserved. There were moments when it was still hard, when she’d spot something out of the corner of her eye and convince herself it was Ian, but it was something she was willing to live with when she knew she had Aaron to bring her back to herself. His touch and soft, gentle words he’d whisper against her skin when she woke up scared in the middle of the night the best comfort she’d ever known.
Aaron frowns curiously as he looks at the small card in his hands, his expression immediately melting into a smile as he looks up at his wife, her amusement at his confusion painted across her face.
“Just how often does Clyde offer you a job?”
She shrugs, gently pulling the card from his hand and discarding it on the table, letting it fall next to the box of crystal champagne glasses “Every couple of months or so since I originally turned him down.”
He frowns, “You never told me.”
She giggles, squeezing his hand as she rests her head on his shoulder, “You don’t exactly like him, honey. I thought it was best I didn’t mention he kept trying to poach me.”
His eyebrows shoot up into his hairline and his mouth drops open, surprise and self-doubt curdling in his gut, making it churn as he continues, “Do you ever wish you had taken him up on it?”
Emily’s smile slips from her face at the crack in his voice and she shifts closer to him, her skin, still somehow warm and sunkissed from their honeymoon, pressing against his as she climbs into his lap. She wraps her arms around his neck and kisses him, her fingers running through his short hair as she pulls back, her eyes full of love as they meet his.
“I could never regret staying for this,” She says softly, her hand migrating to his cheek, her thumb against his lower lip, “If I’d been alone when he asked, if I’d still felt completely adrift…I might have. Maybe in another lifetime, it would have been right for me.”
Her naked honesty, the way her voice is full of reflection instead of regret, is a salve on his concerns, his arms squeezing around her middle as he hauls her impossibly closer, but there was still something lingering in the back of his mind. It wasn’t doubt in her, or her love for him and Jack, but doubt in some of his own choices, how he kept making the same ones again and again, forever returning to a job that had taken so much from him, inevitably putting it first even as it felt harder and harder to do. His eyes drift over to the card again and he kisses his wife’s temple, taking a second to breathe her in before he replies.
“How about we do it in this lifetime?”
She smiles at him, her mouth falling open into a soundless laugh as she shakes her head, and pulls back to look at him, “You’d…you’d do that?”
“I’d do anything for you.”
She laughs again, swallowing thickly, “Aaron…this isn’t…we can’t just…what about Jack?”
He cups her cheeks, his smile sure and comforting as he strokes his thumb back and forth over her jawline, “There is a lot to think about, Jack’s feelings about it included,” he leans forward and kisses her, “But if you want to do this, if you want to go, we should at least talk about it.”
She bites the inside of her cheek and nods, a shaky breath escaping as she answers, her lungs full of hope. The thought that she might just be able to have everything for once, that she wouldn’t be sacrificing part of herself for the other, blooming as wide as her smile.
“Okay,” she says, placing her hand over his on her cheek, linking their fingers together and squeezing. A physical manifestation of their love for each other, of the fact whatever they did next, they’d do it together, “We’ll talk about it.”
___
They do talk about it. And they talk about it some more. And suddenly, it's all she could think about, a new life away from everything they'd endured. A life where she, Aaron and Jack could live in relative peace. A life where none of their monsters were waiting for them in every shadow or around every corner.
In the end, it feels strangely easy. She tells Clyde that she’ll take the job, the relief that courses through her the moment she does far outweighing her irritation at his glee that she’d given in. She gets some satisfaction out of the way his smile drops off his face, his reaction clear even over the video call, when she reminds him it means Aaron will be coming with her, their dislike of each other something she found as childish as she did amusing.
Telling the team is hard. They don’t hide that they are hurt, and confused, and she has to stop herself from apologising, Aaron’s hand tight around hers under the conference table as she explains why they are doing this. He lets her take the lead, ready to step in if anyone gets too accusatory or aggressive, and she’s grateful for it. She knows that without her, Aaron would have stayed at the BAU until the bitter end. Whether that was retirement, injury or because he simply had no other choice but to leave, and the thought of it makes her ache. That he’d stood still to allow everyone else to progress and change for the better.
It felt like nothing short of a privilege that she’d been the one who could help him move forward, that he’d allowed her to love him like that, and she’d spend the rest of her life trying to feel anything close to worthy of it.
At their leaving party, held in Dave’s backyard just like their wedding had been only four months previously, she turns down every drink Penelope tries to force on her, claiming she wanted to be clear-headed to travel the day after. Emily watches her friends, the family she’d found in the most unlikely of places, and it feels bittersweet. The joy of what was to come mixed with the sadness that came with leaving this all behind.
She was used to leaving, to being the one to go, but she wasn’t used to having something that was hard to leave behind. It reminded her a little too much of Paris, of when she hadn’t had a choice. When she’d woken up dead to almost everyone she loved, the dirt from her burial still on the cuff of Aaron’s pants as he explained it all to her. She had to remind herself that this time she wasn’t losing them, that they would still be in her life and that they’d visit whenever they could.
“You okay, sweetheart?”
She smiles when Aaron steps behind her, his arms wrapping around her and pulling her back towards him. She turns her head to kiss him, her lips soft against his as she links their hands together on her abdomen, “I’m okay.”
He kisses her cheek, pressing his hand against her belly, “Are you sure you don’t want to tell them?”
She smiles, unable to help herself, warmth spreading through her chest at the mention of the tiny baby growing beneath her skin. They’d found out she was pregnant shortly after she’d accepted the job in London and they were both delighted, their happiness muffled into each other’s skin one morning as they celebrated and tried not to wake Jack up in the next room. She was excited, another puzzle piece seemingly falling into place, but she wanted to keep it between just her and Aaron for now. Partially down to practicality. Any pregnancy she had would be high risk, due to her age and previous injuries. But also because, in a potentially selfish way, she simply wanted to keep it a secret.
She wasn’t someone who could be easily persuaded out of anything. It was a trait that had often made people call her stubborn. Wilful. Set in her ways. But she knows if there was one thing that could talk her out of leaving it would be seeing her friend's excitement at knowing that she was having a baby. Joy that would quickly turn to sadness once they realised it meant they’d be growing their family on another continent, far away from all the pseudo aunts and uncles Jack had always had. Even without outside influence, without Penelope’s over-the-top enthusiasm or what she was sure would be backhanded compliments from her mother, Emily had her moments of doubt. Brief, fleeting, seconds that would overwhelm her whenever she thought about it too much after the stick turned pink that she was taking something away from her children by taking them away from all of this. Then she’d look at Aaron. See how much lighter he seemed since they’d decided to leave, his shoulders looser and his eyes sparkling. She’d see Jack’s excitement whenever they talked about it, genuine enthusiasm as he spoke about his new school, his new uniform, to anyone who’d listen, and she knew they were doing the right thing.
She didn’t want to get talked out of leaving, not now she had so much more to protect, so when she suggested to Aaron that they keep the baby a secret he’d agreed, even if he did repeatedly ask her if she was sure. His smile always fond and non-judgemental as he checked, his love for her, for the life they were building, written all over his face for anyone who cared to look.
“I’m sure,” she says, catching the corner of his lips in a kiss, “Besides, imagine how much fun we can have with it when we do tell them.”
He chuckles, his laugh drawing attention their way from the others, and he mutters against her cheek, “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
“Come on lovebirds,” Derek yells in their direction, “You two will have plenty of time to be all over each other on your flight tomorrow.”
Emily rolls her eyes but steps forward anyway, keeping her hand wrapped up in Aaron’s as she goes, “You know you’ll miss us, Derek.”
She’d miss it here, she’d miss the comfort of it, the sense of home that had come with the place that had taught her she could be part of a family, but she was excited for what the future held.
___
“Your husband is in the car park.”
She sighs as she looks up from her paperwork, her eyebrow arched as her eyes meet Clyde’s before she looks back down at her desk, “You know,” she says, turning a page in front of her, “The whole point of hiring me to run this unit was so that you didn’t have to be here all the time.”
He chuckles, his arms crossed over his chest, “Well, it would have been that simple if I hadn’t also had to immediately try and find maternity cover for you,” he winks at her when she glares at him, “Mighty inconvenient.”
She hums, her hand pressed against her bump as she leans back in her chair, “Oh you’ve got me,” she says, smiling as she feels her daughter shift under her palm, “I decided to have a baby the moment I moved country not only to take advantage of the local maternity leave laws, but because I knew it would piss you off.”
Cylde laughs, “Wouldn’t put it past you, darling,” his smile only gets wider as she rolls her eyes again, “Your husband is waiting for you. Go to him before I have him arrested for loitering with intent.”
Emily stands up, her hand against her lower back as she grunts, “He’s probably brought me dinner. I told him I’d be here late,” she says, shrugging on her coat, “I’ll be back after we’ve eaten.”
“Oh no, go home,” he says, waving her off, his smile getting wider as she frowns, “He threatened me once before over your wellbeing, and that was before you were married to him and carrying his protégé. Call it… self-preservation.”
She presses her lips together to suppress a smile and she reaches for her bag, “You know, you two need to get over this rivalry at some point. Plus,” she says as she gets to his side, sympathetically patting his shoulder, “I think we both know he could take you in a fight.”
She laughs as she walks away from her office, purposely ignoring his protests before she turns and waves at him as she steps into the elevator. She sighs as the doors close, running her hand over her bump as she leans against the wall. She would have once argued with Clyde over going home, insisting that she was fine, but she was exhausted. Ever since she’d tipped into her third trimester she’d been tired all the time, a bone-deep exhaustion she had never known was possible, and despite wanting to prove herself in her new role, something she felt like she had to do before she took 6 months off to have her little girl, she wanted nothing more than to go home and snuggle with her husband and son.
“Let’s go see what Daddy has brought us to eat, sweet girl,” she says, scanning her ID as she walks out of the building, exchanging a smile with the security guard as she does so.
Their car is one of the few left in the parking lot and she knocks on the window when she approaches, her smile wide when Aaron looks at her, the clunk of the doors unlocking immediately following. She pulls the door open and climbs in, grunting as she throws her bag over into the back seat.
She sighs contentedly as she smells fried food, “Oh what did you bring me?”
“Nice to see you too, sweetheart,” he replies, leaning in to kiss her cheek as he passes her a McDonald's bag.
“Oh I love you,” she groans, snatching the bag from him and pulling it open, shoving fries into her mouth like she hadn’t been fed in days.
“Me, or the food?” He asks, watching her with amusement flashing in his eyes as she looks up at him.
She smiles, “I can love two things,” she says, leaning in to kiss him, the taste of salt passing from her lips to his, “Hi by the way. Clyde said we should just go home.”
“Hi,” he replies, kissing her again before he sits back, “I’ll let you and your cheeseburgers continue your love affair.”
“Burgers?” She says excitedly, looking deeper into the bag, absentmindedly doing her seatbelt up, “You got me more than one?”
“Yes,” he replies as he turns on the engine, “But, dessert will be the fruit salad I made for you earlier.”
“You drive a hard bargain,” she says, unwrapping a burger, “But baby girl and I agree to your demands.”
He laughs and reaches out, one of his hands landing on her stomach for a moment, smiling at the feel of his little girl kicking before he places his hand back on the steering wheel, “She told you that, did she?”
Emily nods, “She lives inside of me. I just know. Where’s Jack?”
“At Thomas’s house, his mom picked them both up from school.”
Jack’s adjustment to moving had surprised Emily the most. She’d worried about him, half convinced she had turned into her mother because she was upheaving his life for her job. No matter how often Aaron told her it wasn’t the same thing, that this was once and Jack was excited about it, it was only when she saw her son thriving in his new school with his new friends that she was able to completely relax. He’d told her one night, half asleep as she read a bedtime story with him, that he had more friends here. That he wasn’t the kid whose mom had died anymore - just the new kid, a title that eventually faded over time.
“We’re going to have to get her a huge gift at Christmas,” she says, taking another bite of her burger, “That woman is a saint.”
He casts a glance at her when he stops at a traffic light, love for her blooming in his chest, the flowers of it crowding his lungs and leaving him breathless. He’d always thought she was beautiful, even back when he didn’t trust her he’d thought it. Anger he couldn’t internalise at feeling that way for another woman when his marriage was crumbling aimed at Emily when she had done nothing wrong. As he got to know her, as he got to see that her beauty was so much more than skin deep, he fell in love with her. Feelings he couldn’t name until it was too late and his hand was wrapped around hers when she was in a hospital bed, a promise that he’d bring her home pressed against her cool forehead before she was taken away. He sometimes couldn’t believe that this was his life now, that he lived with the woman he loved and his son, that he had a little girl on the way.
It felt too good to be true and after his worst nightmares, few and far between these days, there would always be a second when he’d think he was back in his apartment in DC. Long before Emily and when Jack was still in hiding, as if everything else since had been a dream. Then Emily would be there, pulling him against her chest, her hand linked with his as she dragged it to her belly, the roundness of it, the shifting of their daughter, enough to bring him back to her. To the beautiful house they’d bought in Chelsea. To the life he would have once thought was beyond him.
“I spoke to Dave today,” he says and she hums curiously, her focus mostly on her food, “He said he and Penelope are planning a visit. I put him off for now, said something about Jack’s school.”
She smiles gratefully at him, “Thanks, honey,” she says, reaching into the bag for more food, “I know you don’t fully understand it, but once she’s here we’ll tell them,” her smile gets wider, “It will be much harder to hide a baby than a pregnancy.”
She’d decided, after a lot of back and forth, to keep her entire pregnancy a secret from the team. She couldn’t even fully explain why, aware that her friends weren’t people that her daughter needed protection from, but she wanted to fully settle into her new life before she let anyone else into it.
“I don’t have to understand, sweetheart,” he assures her, “I’m always happy to take your lead.”
She reaches for his hand and squeezes it, “You, my love, are very close to getting lucky tonight.”
He chuckles, “Oh really?”
She hums, “Between the burgers and all the sweet shit you’ve been saying, you’re getting there.”
“Well,” he says, waggling his eyebrows at her, a spark in his smile that she’d never seen before they moved, something that had made all the upheaval worth it all by itself, “I’m always lucky when I’m with you.”
She laughs loudly, rubbing her stomach when she feels a corresponding kick, a chastisement from within that she needs to calm down, “Okay, now you’re definitely getting lucky,” she says, checking her watch, “What time is Thomas’s mum dropping Jack home?”
“She isn’t,” he says, “It’s a sleepover.”
Emily beams at him, “Then let's get going.”
___
She huffs as she makes it up the porch steps, leaning against the stone wall as she tries to get her breath back, “Remember when I used to be able to walk up the stairs?”
Aaron smiles and leans in to kiss her forehead, “You did just have a baby sweetheart. I’m sure you’ll be taking them two at a time again soon,” he says, kissing her forehead again before he pulls away. He gently lowers the car seat onto the ground so he can dig his keys out of his pocket and he smiles when his daughter doesn’t wake up, “You excited be home, Lucy?”
Emily leans down, barely suppressing a wince as she does so, and she adjusts the blanket over the little girl, “Jack is so excited to see you when he gets home from school, sweet girl,” she says as she stands up straight and looks up at her husband, “We should get her inside, it’s cold.”
He unlocks the door and stops her from lifting the car seat, his smile soft as he picks it up instead, “It’s tradition that I carry my girls over the threshold.”
She playfully shakes her head at him but lets it go, following him into their house and closing the door behind them, crowding him from behind to look at her baby, never tiring of seeing her face, “Daddy is a sap, Lucy. But you get used to it.”
Aaron sets the car seat down and this time Lucy wakes up, her face screwed up as she starts to cry. Emily immediately unbuckles her and lifts her into her arms, shushing the newborn as she rests her against her chest.
“Do you need anything?” Aaron asks and Emily shakes her head, slowly walking towards the couch.
“No, we’re okay,” she says, lowering herself down, holding Lucy securely against her, her lips against the baby’s dark hair, “Right baby? We’re okay.”
Aaron joins them, unable to bear being too far away from either of them. It had felt like he’d left half his heart at the hospital the night before when he’d brought Jack home, Emily’s insistence that she’d been fine still ringing in his ears as he settled into their empty bed.
“I can’t believe she’s finally here,” Aaron says, running his knuckles down Lucy’s soft cheek, “It’s strange to think we knew about her when we left DC,” he wraps his arm around Emily’s shoulders and gently pulls her closer.
“I know,” she says, tilting her head up to look at him, “Feels like no time at all and a lifetime all at once.”
He nods and kisses the side of her head, his fingers drawing aimless patterns on her arm, “Do you ever regret it? Moving here and starting again?”
She shakes her head, and looks back at her little girl. Lucy was less than two days old, untouched by anything other than love and joy and Emily would do anything she could to make that last as long as possible. She knows she could have continued to be happy in DC, but she isn’t sure that she could be this happy, and she wouldn’t give it up for anything.
“No,” she says, “Not for a second.”
“Me neither,” he replies, resting his cheek on the top of her head, “So, have you figured out how we’re going to tell everyone about this little one yet?”
“You know that photo you took in the hospital that you love?” She asks, slowly trailing off.
Her wide smile tells him everything he needs to know.
___
Dave is making coffee when he hears Penelope scream.
It makes him jump, ageing him by about 10 years as she runs into the bullpen, seemingly unaware of the reaction she had caused, ignoring all the agents around her with their guns raised as she runs towards the team with her phone in the air.
“Have you seen this?” She exclaims, “I can’t believe-”
“Pen, what’s going on?” Derek asks, his fingers twitching over his gun, “You screamed like you were being attacked.”
She scoffs, “Oh I wish,” she grumbles, again ignoring as everyone around her groans and reholsters their guns, “Look.”
She shoves her phone into Derek’s hand and his eyebrows shoot up his head, “Oh..what the fu-”
“What is it?” Dave asks, exchanging a look with JJ before they stand on either side of him to look at the screen, disbelieving laughs leaving them as they shake their heads, “Well, I’ll be damned.”
On the screen was a picture of Emily in a hospital bed with a wide and tired smile on her face and a tiny baby in her arms. The photo was accompanied by a one-line caption.
We’ve been keeping a little secret…
“Did they just…surprise announce a baby?” JJ asks, grabbing the phone to look at it a little closer.
“I believe the term is ‘hard launch’ in the vernacular,” Spencer said, frowning as he looks at the picture, “They left 30 weeks ago.”
Derek scoffs, “Our friends just announced they had a baby out of nowhere and that’s what you’re stuck on boy genius?”
Spencer sighs, “The average pregnancy is 40 weeks, and seeing as the baby Emily is holding doesn’t look premature…”
Dave chuckles and shakes his head, “They knew she was pregnant when they left.”
They fall into silence, happiness for their friends mixed in with confusion, the shock of the early morning announcement, settling over them.
“Oh I am going to kill Emily Prentiss,” Penelope says eventually, her eyes shining with happy tears, “Right after I hug her and meet that gorgeous baby.”
