Forty Seven. Part 2
Slowly opening my eyes, the sun is shining all in my face and interrupted my sleep. Lifting my head up seeing Robyn stood at the balcony doors just looking out from them, she could have actually just stepped out, but I guess it is time to wake up for me. Clearing my throat as I stretched out, Robyn turned away from the balcony to look at me âmorningâ Robynâ sweet little voice, she sounds so cute âmorningâ I sound bad âdid you purposely leave the curtains open so the sun could wake me? I think you didâ Robyn made her way over to the bed âerm, maybe. Well I want to enjoy Jamaica, so I donât want us to sleep in even though I am so tiredâ she sat down on the edge of the bed, placing my arm behind my head âIâm tired too, that is down to sexâ placing my other arm just on Robynâ lap âyou naked under this?â She nodded her head, which made me grin âI mean Iâm not going to tell you that we going to have sex now but Iâm just smiling, how are you feeling?â Playing on the ties of the robe, she is making me so happy right now âerm, ok. Well I am not sick I guess but I am ok I would say, but I havenât ate. I did read into it and they say itâs the first trimester that this happens, but it will get better eventually, I think this baby is a pain in the ass already. But this baby is very different from the first time around, I feel like the first baby was a different sex, they say boys are the weaker sex so it may have been a boy. I am just guessing nowâ nodding my head âdonât say that what if this is a boy again and he can hear youâ I shushed her âyouâre so annoying, get up so we can have breakfast, dramatic as hellâ Robyn got up from the bed, I smiled so wide just watching Robyn walk off, she is really the love of my life.
I have been to some beautiful places thanks to Robyn of course, I have many more places to visit but I am experiencing such beauty in the morning in Jamaica âbetter than Barbados thisâ I knew to say it because Robyn is about to get her flag out âdonât make me get you kicked out of my countryâ I snorted laughing âyou took the bait, I am joking of course. But itâs beautiful right? You have to admit to that at least, you canât just front like that and say it ainât beautiful when it isâ Robyn is not happy that I said that âBarbados is better and youâre not allowed back in my hometown nowâ I snorted laughing âyouâre unbelievable, but if we talking this is my roots though, Jamaican and I have Irishâ Robyn is not interested, cannot say anything bad about Barbados âyou a whole white man Chris, so now you Irish. But is this the first time here for you, I mean if this is my hometown well where my heritage is from, I would be here. I am so glad I was bought up on the island, imagine having to live that life in Americaâ now she is being petty âimagine being an exchange studentâ staring at Robyn and she just stared at me âyou are an assholeâ she laughed âbut my mother never really bothered with it, well my dad so we just left it alone. And yeah, I am so light skinned but Iâm black and people struggled with that, Iâm sure you probably felt the same, because youâre light skinned as hell tooâ me and Robyn both are âI did get bullied for things you wouldnât think, like my skin colour, my forehead. My nose and it was stupid, but it happened and now I think back to it these bitches just wanted to be me, you know. And now Iâm working with puma, I am working with fashion designers, I am being called beautiful for things I did get bullied for, I wish no child gets that because I could have been depressed and you know, killed myself about it and it didnât help when I got to your ugly ass school, but you were there. I am so glad you came late that day, I was your punishmentâ Robyn giggled âI hated it, I was like I have to walk around with you. I was so mad but then I got to know you, life is goodâ I grinned, I am happy âbe honest, like we are adults now. Did you actually like me when you first time saw me?â I know I did, I was shook âwhen I first time saw you Chris, youâre eyes just lit up seeing me. I think at first with your attitude because you was so moody with me I was like oh god no, this boy is not going to be nice to me so I just followed behind you like a lost child and then after you loosened up I fell for you because you was so kind to meâ rubbing my chest smiling âI was an asshole, I donât blame you on thatâ I donât know how she could like me.
Drinking champagne for breakfast is what kings do, because that is what Iâm doing âwhat? Youâre jealous because you canâtâ pouring the champagne in the glass, noticing Robyn recording me so I drank from the bottle. Moving the bottle back âthis is how kings drink in the morningâ holding the bottle up to the camera âyouâre stupidâ Robyn moved the phone down âyou posting that? You know you can see my ring in that, or donât you care?â Robyn shrugged so that means she donât care âI am putting it on my story, mornings in Jamaica. That is what I put, I mean I wouldnât post me, I look terrible without makeupâ placing the bottle on the table âalso no more drinking, I am not dealing with you drunkâ Robyn pointed at me, I saluted her âgotchu, alcohol hits hard in the morningâ not even going to front, I feel it. I let out a burp âno moreâ she said again âI wonât, relax. So I was looking because we need to do pregnant friendly things right? So I set up a few things for us to do, private of courseâ I wonât say it to Robyn, but Jamaica is better than Barbados, the views here are amazing and the hotel is so much better too. I wonât say it again because she will ban me from her country altogether âthatâs cute, and Dennis sent me a link. Heâs already processed the photos and selected ones he thinks we should post, he says that these are magazine worthy, but I said I am not selling them, itâs not what I want. I will post these because I want tooâ she has a point; I agree with her with that but if she can make money out of it, why not.
Stood behind Robyn as she is scrolling through the pictures, these some cute ass pictures right here âyou seen them all?â Putting my tee on âkind of, getting there anyways. You know what, since putting that video of you being a fool I have had people ask me are we married, I havenât confirmed or denied it though, I just feel like I want to keep it a secret. I feel like when people see you happy they want to bring you down and I donât like that feeling. I just want to keep us quiet, I donât know, what you think?â She asked for my advice âwhy do you care if nobody is happy for you? Talk to me, what is going to upset you the most?â Walking around Robyn, pulling the chair out and sitting down âI do care when it upsets you, they will attack you and say things, I mean you have felt the shit with just dating me but marrying me, I just feel like people will attack my bubble. I mean there will be more happy people than anything, but I donât know, what do you think? I will listen to you, please tell what to do?â Turning the laptop to me, seeing the picture of Robyn and I sat together at the evening event, so much love in Robynâ eyes and I love that about our pictures, flicking through to the ones where we are walking down the hall âDennis wasnât lying about these pictures, these look like they come from a wedding magazine, I mean I for one look so goodâ Robyn grinned at me âhow about I post your face for Puma, get you modellingâ shaking my head âI am just saying, I think let us enjoy our honeymoon and then we will think about posting it. I think we should do it, but letâs forget this and go and have some fun yeah?â I think Robyn is really in two minds with this âok, we will wait it out, but I want these pictures framed at our house, they are beautifulâ nodding my head agreeing, she is right, they are beautiful.
We finally left the hotel; I mean after ages we finally left the hotel room and are in the car to go to my little adventure I did for us âwhy does your dick look big in the shortsâ lifting my butt up and pulling my shorts down âbetter? These are baggy as hell actuallyâ Robyn placed her hand on my thigh âI better enjoy wearing my bikinis because I wonât be able too soonâ Robyn poked her lips out at me âI know, but itâs all for a good cause. Do you feel your body changing?â I asked, I mean she may feel it âI do, I feel it a lot. You like my bikini though, you like the clear swim wear I got on over my bikiniâ nodding my head âI do, of course I do. I mean I am always going to say yesâ I chuckled âI would hope you would tell me the truth, oh we here?â Robyn pointed out âwe are, you feel nervous yet?â Robyn turned away from me to look outside the window âwe are rafting!?â nodding my head âI mean not us but someone is going to do it for usâ Robyn looks so excited âoh my gosh, this is amazing, so quiet around here tooâ the car came to a halt âthat is because I booked it off, I said I want it to be private for us from this time, I paid extra for this. You excited?â she seems it âI am, this is amazing. I can already imagine how beautiful the scenery is going to be. Can I leave my bag in the car? I can yes, I mean I donât want to drop my things in the water. You have your phone?â nodding my head âyeah, he is waiting here for usâ I pointed out.
I feel like all the workers came out for us which is funny to me âwelcome, I am your raft captain miss Rihannaâ he shook her hand first, I mean who am I, the spare part of course âthank youâ she shook his hand âand you sir, welcomeâ he gestured for us to get on the raft âI am about break my ass with these slides on arenât Iâ I didnât think this through âyou want to get on firstâ I gestured âno, you get on first and you help me on, you hold it steadyâ the guy is just watching us go back and forth âI step on first, hold it still. Donât be scaredâ he laughed, I could do it but I want to be careful with Robyn. She is sensitive and I donât want anything happening to her, he waved us on. It was nothing for him, he just jumped on the raft. Stepping on the raft âoh this movesâ the guy got his hand out to me âcome friendâ grabbing his hand as I stepped on it âsee, youâre ok. Just be easyâ turning around âI do not trust you oh my god, get the fuck outta here Chrisâ Robyn laughed âI trust the captain more then youâ I feel offended now âRobyn quit playing, comeâ holding my hands out to her, this guy just come up to Robyn âhold my hand, I wonât let you fallâ she is such a pain for this, she held the guyâ hand and then mine as she came onto the raft âshake this thing I will screamâ shaking my head knowing damn well I will not be doing that, helping her to sit down on the raft.
Placing my arm behind Robyn, this river is so beautiful. I made the right choice in this because itâs so beautiful and peaceful âI am still annoyed that you didnât trust me, if like I would let anything happen to youâ Robyn shushed me âI was thinking what if there is crocodiles in this waterâ side eyeing Robyn ânow why would you say that? Stupid, there wonât beâ there is rafts coming back down the river slowly approaching and are going by us, there is a little girl on the raft with her parents, her parents stared so hard and then realised âRihanna, oh my godâ the lady said ever so loud, Robynâ fault she is busy waving at the little girl âhey babyâ the little waved back as the raft went by âwell this is funâ there other rafts going by us have clocked on now âwhy couldnât you just not wave at the girlâ I questioned âshe was too cute, she waved at me first Chris, oh my gosh. How adorable was sheâ she was cute âbut still, you got your fans wanting to swim over to us nowâ I pointed at them âwe love you Rihanna, oh my godâ licking my lips just watching them just take pictures, Robyn did respond by waving âquit it now, itâs about usâ this was really her fault in this, she caused the drama.
We reached the end, which is a nice meal out here, itâs actually very peaceful here with nobody around besides the workers âplease picture together with your wifeâ I looked dumbfounded âhow did you know?â I questioned âyour honeymoon, see you forgot. But we want to put you on the wall with all the famous friendsâ letting out an oh, he is right I did say honeymoon âRobyn, come. Take a picture for the nice man hereâ I pointed, Robyn is busy looking at souvenirs âI want some things, you got money on you. I left my bagâ digging into my pockets âI do twin, letâs just take a picture for himâ Robyn made her way over âof course, Captain has been so good and I felt more safe with him then my husbandâ she playfully rolled her eyes âwhateverâ placing my arm around Robyn and held her close as he took the picture âyou want a picture with her tooâ I asked, I think he did âoh pleaseâ I knew that, moving away from Robyn. Taking the camera from him âthank youâ holding the camera up âsmileâ taking the picture of them âthank you and I wish you both all the blessings on your new journey for the three of youâ he took the camera from me, Robyn and I just stared at each other confused âwhat?â I said confused âhow?â he smiled âI sense things, her aura. You both will have a happy and blissful marriage. I see the future; it will be a girl you both have. And I see you both having three kids, maybe four or maybe that forth is because you lost one, but I sense four but itâs vague with the fourth. Happy memories for you both, thank you for these pictures please sit and eat, I will wait for you at the barâ he smiled walking off, this guy has took me out, what the hell just happened.

Love Without A Name
Chapter Ten: Pictures Emerge
Word Count: 4118
Masterlist
Warnings: Language and Anxiety
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next two months moved in a blur. Tom and I bought a place together, moved in, and I had started a new job not far from it. The flat was actually in the same building as the original.
"We are still neighbors, Haz!"Tom laughs as he carries in a box from the hallway inside the new flat.
Harrison groans, setting down his load as I tag along behind him,"You two could have, I don't know, found a different building?"
"But if we had done that then this would have been ten times worse!" Tom smirks, setting down his box labeled 'Kitchen' on the island.
"And think about it Haz," I hum, lifting myself on the counter to sit, "now if you two hang out, when you're sick of him you can just send his ass home."
Harrison laughs and gives me a high five while Tom whines out a, "Heeeeeeey."
The place was pretty spacious, leaving two bedrooms left to be furnished in the future when my family, or Tom's friends, decided to come visit. (Or we decided we wanted to maybe start trying for kids.) The master bedroom was a lot bigger, and included a master bath which Tom and I enjoyed having. We did eventually get a bigger bed, but only after did it became less occupied, especially since the pet beds had been set up.
It took some time for Tom and I to figure out what our style was together. But it was nice to be able to decorate and furnish the place the way we wanted it; which ended up just being cozy and homey (with lots of colorful pieces to displace the black and white furniture). The walls were slowly starting to become decorated in photos from the wedding and our honeymoon, as well as pictures of our family and friends. It had really started to become a home.
"You three need to come and visit," I whine as I pull the phone further from my face where I was laying on the couch.
"When we have time, and money." Mae smiles, Joyce nodding behind her.
"Yeah, who do you think we are?" Celine teases, shifting in the background.
"Uh, duh, my best friends; but anyways, Tom and I are officially moved into the apartment now, and I started my new job last week." I hum, thinking about the small clinic not far down the road.
"I heard!" Mae laughs, Joyce suddenly laughing in the background. "Mom was talking to yours and said you two had almost burned down the apartment, twice I think."
I sheepishly smile before holding up three fingers, causing the girls to erupt with laughter and call out my name. "Okay, it's not my fault. We like to have music playing in the apartment and well, a few times it's a nice slow song and Tom wants to slow dance so we do and we got distracted." I giggle, shaking my head softly. "On the plus side, the owner of the pizza place knows our order by heart."
The girls are laughing so hard that Celine actually falls of her couch. "You literally are living the dream, (Y/N)." When she finally makes her way back on the couch she motions for me, "You never did give us a tour!"
"Yes! We wanna see the house!" Joyce yells, Mae's eyes falling wide at her excitement.
I stand, giggling at them before I begin to walk around the apartment, telling them about all the different places, narrating from behind the camera. In the process of this, Tom had actually come home and was just watching from behind me as I talked about the master bedroom. He eventually laughed at me, asking what I was doing, which go the response of "I'm giving a house tour!"
He leans on the door frame, arms folded over his chest, "Over Skype?"
"Yup!" I giggle, pointing the camera at him, "Look, it's my husband!" a chorus of 'hellos' come from the speaker.
"Hello, ladies!" He laughs, waving before walking out of the room, but not before adding, "You're a strange one, darling."
"You married me, that's your own fault." I call back, moving into the hallway again to show off the extra, empty rooms, "Stuck with me forever."
"Wouldn't have it any other way, my love."
I smile, the girls cooing about how cute we are. Eventually I end the call and join him in the kitchen. I wrap my arms around his waist and lay my head down on his back. "How was your meeting?"
"Good," he sighs, placing his hands on top of mine, "we discussed when filming would start." There is a slight pause before he adds, "going to be earlier than expected."
"How soon?" I mumble, squeezing him closer to me.
He takes in a deep breath, almost as if he is braving for the worst before muttering out, "Two weeks."
"For how long?"
"About a month and a half," he takes one of my hands in his, lacing them together, "then I'll be back in London for the rest of shooting." The tone in his voice tells me that he is worried about how I'll react; but, it's his job, nothing I could do about it.
"Not bad," I hum, squeezing him before letting go to wander over to the fridge. I stand in front of it, deciding on out of everything in the fridge, what I could make and begin to pull it out. The only problem, Tom picks everything that I take out and keeps returning them to the fridge. "You're being very counterproductive, Tommy. I need to cook dinner," I laugh.
He smirks, "Well, if you would have asked I would have told you that I ordered take-out and that you didn't need to cook dinner." He sasses, causing me to hum in response tugging me into his arms. "It should be here in a few minutes." He smiles, leaning down to pepper my face in soft kisses, making me giggle.
I move away from him slightly, noticing the slight pout on his lips, "So since we have some time to kill, can I tell you some stories from today?" Tom smiles and nods as I begin to ramble on about some of the more entertaining things that had happened at the clinic; of course, not exposing any of the kids' personal information to him while doing so. While I ramble, Tom nods along and hums in all the right places, but I can tell he really has no clue about what I am talking about.
"You're cute when you talk about all this smart stuff that I cannot even fathom." He chuckles, leaning on the counter and shaking his head.
"Cute enough to convince you to help me build something for one of my kids to help with his treatment?" I bat my eyes at him, causing a laugh to fall from his lips.
"I'd love to help you, lovey." He nods, leaning down to kiss me, but is interrupted by the buzzer going off. He sighs, pressing a quick kiss to my forehead before untangling himself from me, "Get a movie and drinks while I get the food?"
"I got it." I smile, moving back to the fridge, "Beer?"
"Please," he calls as he makes his way over to the front door, leaving it cracked as he heads to the lobby.
I walk around the kitchen, refilling my water bottle before heading to the living room. Tessa and Phoebe are sleeping in the large dog bed, snuggled together. I smile and snap a picture, which I have plenty of already, before I switch on the t.v. and scroll through Netflix. I settle for the Princess Bride, simply because we had planned to watch it last time but ended up watching Infinity War because we wanted to count and talk about the funny scenes; and so Tom could shield my face and yell so I didn't hear Peter's dusting scene ('Because I can't get enough of that laugh, my love!'). I smile when he returns with the take-out bags and sets it down on the coffee table.
"Princess Bride, nice. Go ahead and play it, lovey."
"As you wish," I giggle noticing Tom's lips turn up in the corners.
"Isn't that supposed to be the prince's line-"
"Technically, he is a servant boy-"
"He's her prince charming-"
"I know, baby," I giggle, catching his face in my hands. "And you're mine."
Tom rolls his eyes but leans in and captures my lips in a kiss, "That was cheesy, (Y/N)."
"It was supposed to be." I mutter into his mouth before pulling away and settling into his side. "Food?"
"Yup, only the best take-out for the best last-minute-improvised date-"
"So this is a date?" I giggle, looking up at him.
Tom looks up at the ceiling and playfully groans, "I'm trying to be romantic!" He whines, making me laugh.
"I'm sorry, I just love teasing you. And I love you, sooo..."
"I love you too." He mutters, kissing my nose. We look at each other for a few minutes until we realize that we missed the first ten minutes of the movie.
"Will you rewind that?" I laugh as he leans away to grab the remote.
"As you wish," he mutters while wiggling his eyebrows at me, causing me to laugh behind him. Oh was a perfect, last-minute-improvised date.
~
"Okay, what are you thinking we do for supper?" I ask, Paddy walking beside me, phone pressed firmly into his hand.
"Uh, something with chicken...?" He looks over at me as I grab a cart, pursing his lips slightly. "Also, can we grab something that I can take for lunch for the summer program?"
"Yeah, if you have anything in mind, go grab it. I'm thinking chicken stir-fry, that okay?"
"Like what you made the night you and Tom first moved in? Yes, please."
I laugh, ruffling his hair as I point him in the direction of a few other things I would need for the upcoming week. He smiles as he takes his part of the list and wonders down the familiar aisles. I mutter ingredients under my breath and stand in front of a display of veggies, pulling my hair out of its ponytail and letting it fall again, massaging my scalp to get the roots to stop tingling before grabbing peppers and onions. As I walk to go get wild rice and chicken, Paddy runs over and places a few things in the cart, only to dart off again to grab something else.
The sound of my phone going off in my backpack causes me to knit my eyebrows together in confusion. I swing it in front of me before pulling out my cell phone, Hazel's name and number illuminating the screen. I smile as I answer, "Hazel! How are you?"
"I'm good!" Hazel's voice chirps from the receiver. "How has everything been?"
"Good," I hum, stopping as I grab a loaf of bread, only to grab another. "Tom's working, I'm working, and we got and moved into the flat." I let out a content sigh, "Everything is just really good."
"I'm glad! I was just calling to check in, make sure you were okay."
"Yeah, doing really well. I'm just shopping with Paddy, he's staying the week with me cause his folks are on vacation and the twins are doing projects out of the country."
"So not alone, that's good."
"Yeah," I laugh, noticing Paddy standing in the magazine aisle, holding one in his hand.
"Oh, sorry to cut this short! A client just walked in, I didn't realize it was that close to time. Have a good day!"
"You too!" I smile, hanging up before maneuvering the cart into the aisle and over to Paddy. "You find everything you needed, Pads?"
"Uh, almost, but I noticed this." He hands me the magazine. It's a common gossip magazine. Except, one of the bubbles has the caption, 'Marvel Actor, Tom Holland, spotted on vacation with potential girlfriend?' the picture was blurry, but I could tell that it had been taken while Tom and I had been at the airport in Florida. "Do you think we should tell Tom?"
I nod, but only take a quick picture of the article and front page before replacing it on the shelf. "I'll call him while we make dinner." Paddy nods, quipping out a quick 'I'm going to grab one last thing,' before running off again. I get in line and begin to unload my cart, noticing a few teens looking at the magazine, whispering. Once Paddy is back at my side, I nudge him further into the line, "Can you unpack the front?" He only nods, glancing in the direction of the giggling girls. Thankfully the two of us make it out of the store without any questions and walk the few blocks back to the apartment.
While Paddy goes to sit in the living room to sit with Tess and Phoebe, I unpack and start cooking. Once I had everything set up, I grab my laptop and make sure Skype is set up before texting him and seeing if he was busy.
I text him the pictures before starting the call, hoping he has his computer too. And from the way he has his head tilted down when he answers, tells me, thankfully, he does. "Hi, baby."
His head snaps up, giving me a bright smile. "Hey, lovey. Are you okay? I just got those pictures."
"Yeah, I'm fine. Uh, Paddy found them while we were at the market, so I wanted to make sure you knew."
"I'll call my agent and see if there is any way to clear it up; it should be up to us to tell everyone, not some tabloid."
I nod at him, moving the laptop to the other counter so I can go back to cooking. "Okay, do you think I should worry about it at all?"
"No, no one should bother you, and if they do call Harrison or Tuwaine. They can come get you and tell my fans that you are a friend of ours until I get back and we can talk more about it." He shakes his head, his hands falling back to his phone. "I'm going to call my agent really quick, it shouldn't take too long."
I let out a hum as I continue cooking, Tom placing his phone to his ear. As he talks, I can tell he is annoyed, noting the way that he repeats 'There really is nothing that can be done?' back into the speaker. I move out of frame to wash the veggies while Tom continues to talk quietly. Finally, I can hear him hang-up, letting out a frustrated sigh.
"Baby, its fine. We'll be okay." I tell him, noticing him shake his head.
"I just don't want it to escalate while I am away." His hand going to his hair as he pushes it out of his face, "My fans can be a bit much."
"I'll be fine, like you said I can just call the boys. Actually," I lean into the frame, giving Tom a bright smile. "Guess who is sitting in our living room right now?"
Tom lets out a hum, placing a hand over his mouth in 'deep' thought. "Well, I know it's not Sam or Harry; maybe my Mum?"
"Nope," I giggle, only for Tom's eyes to go wide and he lets out a loud laugh.
"Uh, (Y/N)?" I turn and start to giggle at Paddy, who is leaned slightly forward so Phoebe won't fall off his shoulders where she is perched. "I need help, I think she is stuck."
"Oh Phoebes, you sure have gotten yourself into a pickle, huh?" I walk over and help the cat declaw herself from Paddy's shoulder.
"So I am going to make a second attempt and say it was Paddy in our living room." Tom teases once Paddy is free.
He walks over and places himself on the counter across from the stove, smiling at his brother. "Mum and Dad are on holiday, so (Y/N) and I are hanging out."
"Having fun?"
Paddy nods, going into a long, in depth explanation of what we had done the past few days.
When Nikki had asked if he could stay, I panicked. However, it was only because Tom and I hadn't set up the other rooms. Nikki assured me that he would be fine, but after an afternoon of checking some second hand shops (because I still wasn't comfortable shopping for big things without Tom, cause it's a lot more from his paycheck than mine); we found a nice bedroom set. Tom's parents were so thankful, especially since he had some summer programs that he wanted to attend. But, we were family now, and family meant that we helped each other out.
I smile watching the two of them interact. Tom nodding and telling Paddy about things that were happening on his end as well; but, it didn't take long for someone to pop their head into Tom's trailer to tell him he had to be back on set.
"I have to go, you be good, Pads. And, love?" Tom looks at me with an expression that screams a lot more than just 'I love you'; it says 'I'm worried', 'I miss you', 'I want to be home', and 'God, I just need to hold you'.
"Yes, Tom?"
"I love you."
"I love you too."
He leans closer to the screen, "Please call someone if something happens, okay? I want you safe."
"I will, you stay safe too."
He smiles before giving us both one last wave, ending the call; the black screen reminding me that I had a lot of time till he would really be home.
I stretch my arms over my head before clapping my hands and look at the youngest Holland. "You know, if you help me, this'll be done a lot sooner-"
He hops off the counter, moving toward the sink ready to wash his hands, "How can I help?" ~
I was up most of the night. I could feel the anxiety creeping in my chest, like when you know you have a test the next day that you wish you would have studied a little harder for but you didn't and now it's too late. I got up several times during the night, the last straw being at three forty-seven in the morning. There was no way I was going to fully fall asleep, so I got up and decided to make myself a cup of tea. While the kettle was getting hot, I began looking up any other articles about Tom and I on the internet.
Stories about the blurry photos of Tom and I were surfacing everywhere. Eventually, I turned on my Instagram and started to scroll through the explore page, finding a few fan pages with the blurry photo as well; but besides that nothing. I let out a sigh of relief, only to jump at the sound of the kettle going off. I quickly make the cup before retreating to the couch, turning on Netflix, where I eventually fell asleep.
It wasn't until Tessa nudged my hand and lapped a couple kisses to my face did I wake up an hour later. I sigh, rolling off the couch and slipping my feet into a pair of shoes, which in my half-asleep state, I was unsure if they were mine or Tom's. Once Tessa was taken care of, I prep breakfast and let Tess into Paddy's room to wake him.
"It's too early," he whines as Tessa laps at his face.
"Well, I have to get to work, and your thing doesn't start for a few more hours." I state, getting ready to walk away, but not before adding, "I'm making breakfast." I can hear him groan again, but with the creak of the mattress as well. I smile, making my way down the hall to finish cooking.
Paddy gives me a quick hug before walking up the street to his friend's house as the two of us leave the flat. "I'll text you when I get there; you want me at the clinic after or to head to the flat?"
"Only head to the flat if someone is willing to drop you off," he scoffs as I continue, "I know, I know. You're old enough to do things on your own but for my paranoid mind-"
"I'll keep you in the loop, promise." He nods, pulling his backpack straps away from his body as he walks backwards. "I'll see you; love you, (Y/N)!"
"Love you too, Pads!" I giggle, turning the opposite way and walking to work. The whole way I check around my surroundings. Once I am in the parking lot I notice a car sitting in the far end of it. I raise an eyebrow at it before entering, calling out a quick 'good morning' to the Wilma working at the front. She smiles at me as I pass to set my stuff in the group office before checking my caseload for the day. Today will be a good day, I remind myself.
When I finally make it home, Harrison and Paddy are sat comfortably on the couch eating pizza. "Hey, boys," I hum, rubbing the top of Paddy's head before hugging Haz over the back of the couch, "Thank you, I appreciate this-"
"Not a problem, also, Tom filled me in on your situation."
"Well, I'm glad for that-"
Paddy cuts me off, mouth still full of cheesy goodness, "And I told him that you are on edge because of it-"
"Thanks, Paddy." I roll my eyes as I walk into the kitchen and grab a slice of pizza before making my way down the hallway and change out of my scrubs. Finally in comfy clothes, I return to the kitchen and grab another piece before jumping on the couch with the boys to watch the movie with them.
As the night gets later, Harrison helps me clean up while Paddy gets ready for bed. Harrison watches me as I move, and he notices the way I keep glancing at my phone. "You sure you're okay?"
"Yeah, I'm just-" I cut myself off to rub my hand down my face, "Worried. I don't know."
"You shouldn't have to, but we are here if you need anything, I swear."
"And I hope you know that I really appreciate that."
Harrison smiles, carefully tugging me into his arms to hug me. It's comforting, and it reminds me of my brothers. I should call them soon, I miss them. I squeeze him a little tighter before letting him go. He lets out a small sigh before stating that he should probably head back to his flat, he had to be up early the next morning. I walked him out, locking the door behind him since he had taken the liberty earlier to take Tess out for her 'before bed wee'.
Paddy comes back to the living room to say goodnight, hugging me tightly before making his way down the hall, Phoebe hot on his heels. I rub my hands over my face as I scroll through my phone, checking my usual apps before bed.
While back on the explore page on Instagram, I notice a new picture. No, several new pictures. Â Most were far away, but I could one-hundred percent tell it was us; especially the ones from Disney. I bite my lip as I read the caption of a cluster of photos. They were when Tom and I were at Epcot, most likely in Germany because he had a beer in hand that in one of the pictures I took a sip from.
Thought I was crazy, but now that I have seen the pictures on People Magazine, I can 100% confirm that @tomholland2013 had to have been on a vacation with his secret girlfriend.
I shake my head before deciding to close out of the app and head to bed. I grab one of Tom's sweaters off the dresser where it had been thrown weeks ago, and pull it under the covers with me. I nuzzle my face into the fabric and send a little prayer to whoever is listening to help me sleep.
Just let me sleep, and I can pretend that everything is okay.
Fade Into You - Ch. 2
Title: Fade Into You (Chapter 2 of 5) Author: aliciameade Rating: T Pairing: Beca/Chloe Summary: Tip for newlyweds: send a wedding invite to every billionaire whose address you can find because it's a 50/50 chance their assistants just send you a perfunctory gift without ever wondering who the hell you are. Or: Beca had a really good terrible idea when she got tired of being broke in New York.
Also on AO3 and FFnet, but I probably canât link there idk.
(Chapter 1)
Amy unsurprisingly declared her ignorance of the invitation situation when Beca confronted her, stating she assumed theyâd added their parents and the Bellas to their list as a joke, or a way to get more free stuff.
There wasnât much Beca could say to that. It wasnât Amyâs fault the list was wrong.
~ ~
~ ~
Two days later when Beca opened their mailbox, she pulled out one of their returned RSVP cards.
From Glen Hauenstein, the President of Delta Airlines.
âHoly shit.â She rushed up the stairs and almost fell through the door in her haste. In the absolute chaos theyâd created in their personal lives, sheâd forgotten what had started it: one teeny tiny gigantically unethical idea.
âHey, you,â Chloe said with a calm smile over a cup of tea.
Beca held up the envelope. âSomeone replied.â
âOh, my God! Who?â Chloe set down her cup and rushed to join Beca still standing barely inside the door.
âDelta.â
âShut UP!â Chloe said with a shove to Becaâs shoulder. It was so hard it actually threw Beca against the door. âSorry. Letâs open it,â she said as she snatched the envelope out of Becaâs hand and ripped open its seal. She pulled out the RSVP card. âGlen regrets to inform us that he cannot attend,â Chloe said with a grin as she waved the card in front of Becaâs face.
âOh, thank God,â Beca said with a sigh of relief.
âWait; thereâs something else in here.â Chloe reached back into the envelope to pull out what looked like a blue credit card. âBecaâŚâ
âWhat? What is it?â
âItâs a five thousand dollar Delta gift card.â
Beca dropped her purse. âWhat?!â She grabbed the card out of Chloeâs hand and flipped it over. Surely, it had to be fifty dollars, or maybe five hundred, but⌠âHoly shit. Holy shit!â She threw it across the room like it was on fire.
âNo! Donât lose it!â Chloe chased after it and found it where it had slid under the edge of their bed.
âWe canât keep that, Chloe!â
âWell, itâs not like we can send it back!â
âYes, we can!â Beca said, clapping with each word to make her point. âThat was the plan. We can send something back with the sad news of our break-up and itâs all fixed!â
âHe runs the airline, baby. Itâs not like this actually cost him anything.â
Beca was about to reply when Chloeâs statement resonated with herâone word in particular. She grit her teeth. âFine. Iâll think about it.â
âGood.â Chloe sat down on their bed and kicked her feet excitedly. âAnd now we know it works!â
Beca rolled her eyes at how fucking cute she was being. She knew this was bad. It was so, so bad. But Chloe liked it. Chloe wanted to pretend to be engaged a little longer and...Beca was good with that. She took off her shoes to cross the room and climb onto the bed and flop into her spot. âIâm pretty sure weâre going to hell for this.â
Chloe giggled and turned to crawl over until she was dropping down to kiss Becaâs cheek. âIâm going anyway. Itâll be nice to have you there with me.â
Beca felt herself blush at the thoughts that flooded her imagination as to what Chloe could have done to warrant her confidence in her afterlife.
âSo, where would we go? If we keep it, I mean.â
âApparently, weâre going to Fiji if we donât stop this runaway train.â
Chloe shrugged next to her. âIâll take care of it.â
~ ~
~ ~
More RSVPs trickled in over the next couple of weeks. Cousins and coworkers who could not attend. Parents who would. Bellas who would. CEOs who regretfully couldnât. And it was never the right time to call off the weddingâsomeone else was going through a break-up, or was sick, or a mom had a bad day at work.
There was always a reason. The one time Chloe couldnât come up with one, Beca blurted some lie about her dad and Sheila starting couples therapy that day so they absolutely could not do it then.
Their fake wedding was two weeks away and neither of them had figured out how to call it off.
It was Saturday afternoon when someone buzzed their door.
âUPS!â crackled through when Beca asked who it was and she buzzed them up.
âWhat did you order?â she said when she dropped the delivered Amazon box onto the bed where Chloe sat.
âNothing.â She looked up at Beca and Beca knew what she was thinking. âGet the scissors; letâs open it!â
Beca rushed to grab them from the drawer and returned to slice the tape. She let Chloe pop the sides open and pull out a rectangular package wrapped in white and silver paper. There was a slip of paper with it and she read, âTo Chloe and Beca. May you live happily ever after. Iâm so sorry I cannot make it to your special day, but I will be with you in spirit. Never stop singing your love to each other. Congratulations. Love, Mrs. Higgins. Oh, my God, Mrs. Higgins!â she added with a squeal. âShould we open it? Or should we wait until after the wedding?â
âChloe,â Beca said slowly. âThereâs not going to be a wedding. Remember?â
âOh, right. I didnât mean...nevermind. So should we open it?â
Beca sighed and sank onto the bed. This ruse was taking a serious toll on her morals even if it was pervertedly fun and exciting. âI guess?â
Chloe tore into the paper with another squeal to reveal the set of eight hundred-thread count navy blue Egyptian cotton sheets from their registry. âOh, heck yes!â she said with a grin as she tossed the package in the air. âIâm going to go wash these and theyâre going on our bed tonight.â
Beca expected to have a fitful rest when she slid into the luxuriously silky sheets that they basically stole. But when Chloe slid up behind her and draped her arm over her waist while she kissed Becaâs shoulder, she forgot, at least for a little bit, that what they were doing was wrong.
Because something about it all felt so right.
~ ~
~ ~
âRemember how you were going to call off the wedding?â Beca asked as she zipped her suitcase while sipping from her fresh cup of coffee thanks to her new Keurig. Theyâd be in a cab to the airport in the next fifteen minutes for a two-week trip to Fiji, courtesy Delta Airlines and the Mitchell and Beale families.
Somehow an entire wedding got planned without either of them having to lift a finger (thanks, Aubrey), everything from rehearsal to dinner to the photographer to the ceremony and reception and the week-long honeymoon that the Bellas all chipped in for: a private bungalow on a neighboring island away from their guests.
âYeah, you two are a regular Bonnie and...Bonnie,â Amy said as she sat on her suitcase and waved Beca over to zip it.
âThanks again for your help, Ames.â
âDonât mention it.â
She watched Chloe double-check the garment bag that contained their dresses. Beca didnât even remember how it happened; one afternoon they were drinking white wine and suddenly they were in Macyâs picking out dresses suitable for an island wedding. âI will. But letâs get to Fiji first. Weâll announce it at the rehearsal dinner and then we can run off and do our own thing for the rest of the trip.â
âI seriously canât believe weâre doing this. What is wrong with us?â Beca asked as she shoved her various chargers into her carry-on and made sure her passport was in her purse.
âWeâre seizing the day.â Chloe swatted her ass with her own passport before putting it away and opening the door. âLetâs go get married.â
âWeâre not getting married!â Beca had to say it for herself as much as for Chloe, it seemed. And that was a little...confusing for Beca.
âYou know what I mean. Now, letâs go!â
~ ~
~ ~
Twenty hours on an airplane was a lot, even with two stops along the way. The longest break was in Los Angeles and that was after a paltry six-and-a-half hour flight. Beca didnât even need to stretch her legs yet.
It wasnât all bad, though.
It was nice being upgraded to First Class when they checked in. Theyâd done it at a self-serve kiosk only for it to send them to the counter. The agent informed them that as a guest of the airline, they would be upgraded. Chloe had looked at Beca with such shock that Beca had to be the one to thank the agent and take their new boarding passes for seats 3A and 3B.
âUh, excuse me? What just happened?â Amy asked from where she waited behind them.
âWe got bumped to First Class,â Beca said, still feeling woozy from it. âI guess because we booked the tickets with the gift card? Whatever; letâs go before they change their mind.â
âYou bitches,â Amy grumbled. âYou better bring a hot towel back to me in steerage.â
It was nice to not have to sit sandwiched between Chloe and Amy for twenty hours. It was nice to hear Chloe tell the flight attendant they were wedding-bound, even if it was just a ploy to get free champagne (which would have been free anyway because they were in First Class, but Chloe seemed tickled to share the information regardless).
It was nice to have Chloe flip the armrest up between them to lean over and snuggle into Beca while they both settled to sleep for as much as the trans-Pacific journey as possible. Beca moved her arm to put it around Chloeâs waist so she could pull her in closer. And it was nice.
âOh, hell no,â Beca said when she stepped onto the tarmac in Nadi for their connection to Savusavu and saw what was waiting for them. âThatâs a fake airplane. Can it even carry our baggage?â
âWell, we all know you have enough emotional baggage for the three of us,â Amy said under her breath and Beca ignored her.
âItâll be fine, Becs,â Chloe said as she nudged her to start walking toward the plane, which only had six windows along its fuselage.
âI really donât want to die before our fake wedding.â She let the man waiting by the door help her up the two steps and into the tiny aircraft. She even had to duck so her head wouldnât hit the ceiling and she yelped when someone grabbed her from behind.
âI promise not to let anything bad happen to you,â Chloe said into her ear before kissing her cheek and peeling off to sit.
It was single seating along the sides of the plane which, by Becaâs count, could seat twelve people. There were only five aboard: their party of three and what appeared to be a couple based on how affectionate they were being even across the narrow aisle between their seats. Chloe seemed to notice them, too, because she reached across the aisle to find and hold Becaâs hand.
~ ~
Just as Aubrey said would happen, there was a van waiting for them when they landed at Savusavu Airport. Beca wasnât sure how she survived that last leg of the journey between the trying take-off (seriously, it sounded like the engines had asthma) and landing on what amounted to little more than a dirt road. Sheâd sweat through the back of her tee and it hadnât been that warm on the plane.
âYou okay?â Chloe said with amusement as she plucked Becaâs shirt from where it clung to her skin while they climbed into the van. âYou made it in one piece. Told you Iâd take care of you.â
âShut up,â she grumbled but couldnât help but smile a little at the way Chloe looped their arms together to sit close. It seemed the other couple from the plane wasnât traveling to their resort and the three of them had the van to themselves.
âLadies, welcome,â their driver said. âMy name is James. Iâll be taking you out to Koro Sun. Vijay will make sure you are comfortable.â He nodded at the man whoâd placed their baggage in the back of the van. He was now armed with a tray of rolled white cloths.
âChilled towel?â he said with a subtle accent as he offered one to Amy with a pair of tongs.
âOoh, donât mind if I do,â she said as she promptly unfurled it and put it under her shirt where Beca knew it was getting tucked under her boobs.
âYeah, thanks,â Beca said after Chloe had accepted hers. She was still working on unrolling it to dab at her face when she hissed at cold landing on the back of her neck.
âYou seem to need it more than I do,â Chloe whispered as she massaged her neck a little through the cool cloth. âOoh, drinks!â
Beca blinked out of the daze sheâd been put into to find a green coconut with the top cut off and a brightly colored straw and tiny umbrella sticking out of it. âIs there alcohol in that?â she asked as the man prepared to hand one to her.
âNo, but Iâm happy to add some.â He was reaching for a bottle of something dark from a spot next to their seat and pouring before sheâd even agreed.
âThanks,â she said when he finally passed it to her. She took a long, long drink. It was amazing. And much-needed.
âYeah, Iâma need you to hit me up with a spot of that,â Amy said, stretching her arm out and waving her coconut in Vijayâs face.
âMe, too, please,â Chloe said with a polite smile. âGood idea, babe.â
Beca shrugged and took another sip. âWhen in Rome.â
âYeah, Shawshank? I thought Chloe was the one who failed Maps? Weâre in Fiji. Not Spain.â
She rolled her eyes and laughed to herself. She was in Fiji...to not get married.
What the everloving fuck?
âOkay, ladies, here we are! Welcome to Koro Sun Resort.â
Beca peered out the dark window of the van. Despite the tint, it was clear they were deeply in paradise. She could tell the water was blue, or maybe even turquoise. There were trees everywhere and if there werenât trees there were beaches. Pure, white sandy beaches.
âComing through! Ladies first!â Amy announced as soon as Vijay opened their door. Beca watched her march toward what appeared to be the main entrance.
âAfter you,â Beca said with a nod to Chloe.
âOh, wow,â Chloe said once she was standing outside the van. âBecs, hurry up.â She reached back and took Becaâs hand to pull her out. âLook at this.â
âOh...wow,â Beca echoed. It was...beyond anything she could imagine. It smelled like rain and flowers and the sea and the only things she could hear were the breeze, birds, and what sounded like a waterfall. She felt Chloeâs arm around her waist.
âThis is so romantic,â Chloe said quietly. âCome on; letâs go check in. I want to see our room. Aubrey said itâs an âEdgewater Villa.ââ
~ ~
~ ~
True to its name, their private villa was situated against the edge of a lagoon inset from the ocean. They had to get to the front door via a footbridge over a private pool through a garden.
âOkay, Iâm here for this,â Beca said as she made her way through the house. It was epically luxurious without crossing the line into tacky territory. Everything felt organic, made from stone and woven plant fibers with windows everywhere to remind them they were surrounded on three sides by water (the fourth was curtained by the rainforest).
Chloe stopped in the kitchen to see what was stocked for them in the refrigerator so Beca kept going until she found a bedroom.
âOh...right,â she said to herself as she dropped her carry-on on a chair.
âWhatâs wrong?â Chloe said from behind her before joining her in the center of the room.
âNothing,â Beca said quickly. âI just...nevermind. Itâs dumb.â
Chloe ran her fingers up Becaâs back to make her scrunch up her shoulders. âIâm sure itâs not dumb. Tell me.â
Beca sighed and gestured at the singular king-sized bed. âI was just surprised is all.â
Chloe smiled and gave her a tug toward the bed. âWhatâbecause thereâs only one bed? Did you forget we sleep with each other every night? Donât get shy on me now.â
âNo,â Beca mumbled. Her face felt hot at Chloeâs choice of words. She let Chloe pull her along until they were both crawling up the bed to flop on their backs to try it out.
âSee?â Chloe reached her arm out across the ample space between them. âWay more room than our bed at home. And comfier,â she added as she wriggled around until she was basically wrapped around Beca to defeat her own point of having more space. âBesides, weâre getting married.â Chloe poked Becaâs cheek and then kissed it. âItâs a little late to not want to sleep with me.â
âWeâre not getting married.â Beca turned her head and looked down her nose at the bright eyes and giddy smile looking back at her and she shook her head. âWhat am I going to do with you?â
âMm, anything you want,â Chloe said before kissing her cheek again and then leaping off the bed. âCâmon! Thereâs a ladder right off our balcony that takes us down to the water! We need to go swimming!â
Beca cleared her throat and sat up to watch Chloe throw open one of her suitcases and pull out a white bikini and start stripping right there in plain sight. âYeah, I justâŚâ She gawked when Chloeâs bra came off despite her back being turned toward Beca and having seen it a thousand times already. âI just need a minute after that flight.â
~ ~
~ ~
âShould we be concerned we havenât seen Amy since we got here?â Beca asked as she combed out her wet hair.
Chloeâs own wet hair thwacked her arm as she flipped it over to put some type of product in it. They were wearing matching white bathrobes fresh from their showers. âShe probably has a new boyfriend fanning her with palm fronds in her private courtyard. I wouldnât worry about her.â
Beca snorted and reached for her moisturizer. âSo whatâs the dealâdo we need to make reservations for dinner? I donât want to have to wait for a table. Iâm fucking tired. What time is it at home?â
âWeâre eighteen hours behind New York.â
She glanced at a clock on the wall of the ensuite bathroom and did the math. âSo, midnight. Cool.â
âI know; Iâm tired, too. But we have to hold out as long as we can to get switched over. I donât want to be jet-lagged all week when we only have two weeks here.â Chloeâs hair whipped her again as she straightened.
âSo, reservations?â Beca reminded as she watched Chloe get the part in her hair straight.
âOh! No, we donât need to make reservations. Bree said we get VIP treatment because of our wedding.â
âRight.â Beca looked at their reflections in the wide mirror and Chloe smiled at her through it. She wondered for the umpteenth time how they let this charade get this far. But they were there, so she decided to make the most of it while it lasted. âIâm not going to blow-out my hair. Or put on makeup tonight,â she said as though declaring world peace. âWe donât know anyone here, so fuck it.â
Chloe laughed and bumped her hip with her own. âYou donât need it anyway.â
Beca blushed and reached for her eyeliner as she leaned in toward the mirror.
âYou just said you arenât wearing makeup tonight.â
She paused and looked at Chloe through the mirror again. âThis doesnât count.â
Chloe just shook her head at her and turned to leave. âIâm going to get dressed. Meet me out front.â
âSure.â She watched Chloe walk away for a second too long because she saw her drop her robe right before she was completely out of sight in their bedroom. It made her hand too unsteady to get her eyeliner on straight so she tossed it back in her bag. âFuck it.â
~ ~
Once again as Aubrey had promised, they were treated as honored guests as soon as Beca gave the maÎtre dⲠher name. Dinner was exquisite, a three-course meal that Beca could only assume was locally sourced.
They were strolling along a path, going opposite the way they came so they could explore a little when the thumping rhythm of bass started mixing with the natural sounds of the environment.
âDo you hear that?â Chloe asked just as Beca noticed it.
âYeah. It sounds like itâs ahead of us. Letâs check it out.â
They kept walking until they found the source: the resortâs nightclub. âOoh, a bar! Câmon, I need something fruity with an umbrella in it,â Chloe said with a mischievous smile as she grabbed Becaâs hand to head toward the club.
They were carded at the doorâprobably Becaâs faultâbut as soon as Chloe showed her ID they were both waved through with enthusiastic greetings and shown to a small high-top table marked with a Reserved sign and a waiter descended upon them before theyâd even finished hopping onto their stools.
âWelcome to Latitude 17, ladies,â a handsome man wearing a tropical flower-covered shirt said as he placed a pair of napkins on the table. âCongratulations on your upcoming nuptials. Weâre so happy you chose to spend it with us.â
âThank you!â Chloe said. âSo are we!â
Beca held her tongue; there was no need to tell this stranger they werenât going to go through with it.
âWould you like something to drink?â
âSomething tropical,â Chloe answered. âAnd strong.â
âMe, too,â Beca added. âAnd make sure hers has a tiny umbrella in it. Please.â
âOf course,â he said with a nod before disappearing toward the bar.
âOkay, I could get used to this,â Chloe said as her hand patted Becaâs knee.
Beca noticed she didnât remove it once the patting stopped. She hoped their drinks would arrive as quickly as they were seated. âYeah, same.â She looked around the bar and its tropical theme, hibiscus and greenery everywhere, even hanging from the DJ booth on the other side of the room. It was perfect, and being treated like royalty wasnât too shabby either. âIs this the only bar in the place I wonder?â
âI havenât looked at the map yet, so I donât know. Why?â
âBecause Amyâs not here, so there must be another,â she said with a smile and it sent Chloe into a fit of giggles. âOkay, calm down. Youâre not even drinking yet; it wasnât that funny.â Sheâs not quite sure why she would ever tell Chloe to stop laughing; she looked beautiful when she laughed.
âMaybe sheâs not finished with her new boyfriend yet. Ooh!â
Beca turned at Chloeâs excitement to see their waiter returning with two fancy and fruity-looking pink drinks in hand. They both had tiny umbrellas and wedges of pineapple on the rims.
âMai tais for the lovely ladies in love,â he said with a grand smile as he placed the glasses on the table. âEnjoy.â
âThanks!â Chloe said as she picked hers up right away. âWhat should we toast to?â
Beca was slow to respond, still hearing the waiterâs words pinballing around in her brain. âUm,â she said as she picked up her drink and turned to face Chloe. She hoped her undue nerves werenât obvious.
âI know! To you,â Chloe said before tapping her glass to Becaâs.
âWhy me?â she asked before Chloe got the straw to her lips.
Chloe smiled at her. âBecause we wouldnât be here if not for you.â
âDonât remind me,â Beca said as she rolled her eyes. The guilt came in waves and she felt it rolling in.
âNo, no. Stop it,â Chloe said firmly. âWeâre in this amazing place and I wouldnât change it for the world. Weâll deal with our little...situation when the time comes. Letâs just enjoy this while we can, okay?â She punctuated her request with her sad puppy eyes and as usual, it rendered Beca helpless in arguing.
She felt a smile tug at her lips and it made Chloeâs grow until they were grinning at each other. âFine!â she said. âTo me!â
They tapped their glasses again and drank, both wincing at the same time.
âOkay, when I said strongâŚâ Chloe said with a strained voice.
Beca coughed. âThey listened.â It burned. And it was delicious. âHere,â she said as she plucked the paper umbrella out of her glass to drop it into Chloeâs. âSince you love them so much.â
Chloe squealed at the addition and took another long sip. âHurry up and drink that. I want to dance.â
Beca just laughed and shook her head. âOf course you do. And Iâm trying! This isnât really something I can chug.â
Chloe cocked an eyebrow at her.
Her heart sank to her feet. âChloâno. Thatâs notâno.â
âOn the count of three! Oneââ
It was Chloeâs favorite thing. Challenge Beca to a drinking contest. She figured out the little game years ago for the sole purpose of getting Beca drunker, but Beca participated in it nonetheless because competition ran in their blood. âNo, I canât, Iâm not even drunk yetââ
âTwoââ
âI wasnâtââ
âThree!â
âNo! Baby, I wasnât trying toâshit!â She threw the straw out of her glass to bring it to her lips and start. It burned and made her eyes water and when she slammed her glass down as carefully and victoriously as she could, saw that Chloe hadnât even started. She was just staring at her over her untouched glass. âWhat happened?â Beca said with a laugh. âIâm not the only one getting drunk tonight. Go!â
Chloeâs eyelashes fluttered and then she was drinking until there was nothing but ice in her glass. Her face was flushed when she set it down. âOkay. Come dance.â Chloe grabbed Becaâs hand to drag her off her stool and toward the dance floor.
It wasnât like Beca was resisting, though; she just wasnât as quick as Chloe off her seat so she ended up being dragged along trying to catch up until Chloe finally stopped in the middle of the semi-crowded dance floor and turned around to face her, already moving to the beat. Beca didnât know the song but it had a smooth house beat that wasnât too fast for her liking. It was easy to slide into the rhythm and soon they were dancing in sync.
She and Chloe had spent countless hours on dance floors together over the years. Dancing with Chloe was as natural as breathing for Beca, though it had taken most of their first year as friends to reach that point.
Now she had no hesitations about reaching out and pulling Chloe against her after sheâd turned her back to Beca. Her blood was warm and watching Chloeâs hips in her tight white capris wasnât helping the matter so she decided to own it and wrap her arm around Chloeâs waist while their hips rocked together.
Chloe glanced over her shoulder at the contact and Beca could tell she was warm, too. The alcohol was probably starting to work its magic on her as well, Beca figured, as she winked at Chloe.
She wasnât really trying to convey anything with it. Nothing more than a message that she was having fun. But it seemed to translate a little differently for Chloe because suddenly she was turning in Becaâs hold to drape an arm over Becaâs shoulder while the other wrapped around her waist to pull their bodies even closer.
They were close enough that Beca could smell the rum on her breath. It felt infinitely hotter on the dance floor and she was sure Chloe could feel the way her lower back was sweating through the thin material of her tank top. She was grateful she had opted for shorts because she was sure sheâd be dead if sheâd worn jeans.
She was also sure she should be dead from how intensely Chloe was looking at her. They were just dancing; there was no need for her to make that much eye contact. Yet, she was, and Beca wasnât sure her heart was up to the task of dealing with it. It was really being put through its paces with how Chloeâs gaze kept drifting to what Beca thought might be her lips, though it was equally possible she was looking at, like, her chin. Or her cleavage, which Beca knew was readily visible in the low scoop neck of her top. She knew if she glanced down, sheâd have a good view of Chloeâs, too, thanks to her halter top.
She pulled away as soon as the thought crossed her mind. âI need another drink!â she explained when Chloe looked at her questioningly. She was desperate for space but she didnât get much; Chloe grabbed her hand to follow her off the floor and back to their table. Beca didnât sit and neither did Chloe; instead, Chloe stood impossibly close to her until Beca had to tug her hand out of Chloeâs grip to sling her arm around her waist instead.
That seemed to make Chloe happy and she did the same, her fingers tucked into the front pocket of Becaâs denim shorts.
âWhereâs our guy?â Beca asked as she looked around the room to get her brain and body to cool off.
âThere he is!â Chloe said as she hopped a little and waved him down. They had fresh mai tais in short-order.
âIâm not chugging this one,â Beca said as she picked up her glass.
âWait!â Chloe said before she could take a drink. âWe have to make a toast.â
âWe already made a toast,â Beca said as she tried to angle herself so she could look at Chloe without being an inch from her face. âTo me, remember?â
âThat was my toast.â She felt fingers walk up her back and then glide down to hold her waist again. âItâs your turn.â
Beca just shook her head. She wasnât going to argue it. âOkay, fine. To us.â She smiled and tapped her glass to Chloeâs and drank. She watched Chloe take a sip, too, on a delay again just as she had been when they were supposed to race.
She didnât think too hard about why that was.
That was a hopeless path of pain to travel down.
Instead, she focused on how nice it was to be able to hold Chloe as she was and how Chloe was holding her the same way and allowed herself to indulge just a little bit in the fantasy theyâd created for themselves. That she was at an island resort with her fiancĂŠe set to be married in two short days andâ
She grabbed Chloeâs hand from around her waist and pulled it up to the table between them. âA ring!â
âWhat?â
âYou donât have an engagement ring!â She slapped her own left hand on the table, foregoing her hold on Chloe to do so. âNeither do I! If you proposed to me, I should have a ring. And so should you! I wouldnât not give you a ring. People are going to expect to see them. Theyâre always obsessed with engagement rings.â
âWeâll just tell them we left them at home to not risk losing them.â
âNo!â Beca said. It was loud enough that she saw Chloe flinch. âNo,â she tried again. âWeâre going to take the shuttle into town first thing in the morning before everyone shows up and weâre going to get engagement rings.â
Chloeâs hand turned to interlace with Becaâs. âThatâs really sweet, but I donât really have money for an engagement ring.â
âWeâll get fake ones. Or some kind of local thing and weâll tell people we waited until we were here to get something to remember this by.â She watched Chloeâs face soften until it looked like she was maybe going to cry. âDude, what?â
Chloe laughed a little and shook her head as she cradled Becaâs cheek with her free hand for a second. âYouâre really a romantic, arenât you.â
âWhat? No,â Beca said, offended for some reason as she tried to crane her neck away from the touch that felt like heaven.
âYes, you are,â Chloe said firmly before leaning in to kiss Becaâs cheek. She seemed to hesitate before pulling back and Becaâs heart stopped. Then she moved in to kiss her again, this time close enough to the corner of Becaâs mouth to make her head swim. âLetâs finish our drinks so we can go to bed if we have to be up early to go ring shopping.â
âYeah,â Beca croaked. âOkay.â
~ ~
Beca fell asleep easily, sole credit to the jetlag.
But she woke up two hours later thinking it was time to get up for work only to check her phone to see that it was barely 1:00 am. Any other normal morning at home, sheâd have rolled over and fallen right back asleep instead of getting up. But now her brain was awake on New York time and thinking about all the things that happened on their first day on the island.
Chloe changing into her bathing suit. Seeing Chloe drop her robe. Dinner and everyone treating them to the pinnacle of romance. The club. The way Chloe had looked at her, had danced with her, had almost kissed her. Well, she had kissed her, but it was an almost kiss. And the way Chloe had looked at her when she was blathering on and on about rings.
âCanât sleep?â Chloe murmured next to her.
Her body must have been as restless as her mind. âIâm usually getting up for work right now.â She felt the bed shift and then Chloeâs arm slid around her middle, high enough that Beca had to stop the choking sound from escaping her throat because Chloeâs forearm was definitely touching Becaâs boobs. It was probably an accident, just a miscalculation of an angle, but Chloe didnât correct it.
She felt lips against her bare shoulder next to the strap of her pajama tank and tried not to shiver. âPretend you get to sleep in.â
âTrying,â she said with a sigh as she tried to clear her mind of everything yammering in her head.
âNervous about seeing everybody tomorrow?â
She hadnât been, but now that Chloe brought it up⌠âYeah.â
Chloe squeezed her a little and the motion pushed her arm even more against her boobs. âItâll be okay. We just have to act like weâre in love.â
Beca sighed but managed to smile a little into the darkness. âI donât know how good at that Iâll be,â she said, knowing full well she was absolutely head over heels in love with Chloe and no acting would be necessary. Sheâd been acting like she wasnât in love with her for years. It would come as a relief to not have to be in a constant mode of restraint. She could take her hand if she wanted, or hug her, or fetch her a fresh drink, or fix an errant lock of hair without raising suspicion.
Chloe chuckled behind her and gave her arm a wiggle. Beca knew it was only meant to jostle her but it scraped right up and over her barely clothed nipples and she shoved her face into her pillow to muffle her gasp.
âIâm pretty sure we know how to act like weâre in love.â
âMhm,â Beca choked out.
âYou know,â Chloe continued and Beca wished more than anything she was narcoleptic so she wouldnât have to endure it any longer. Her arm started withdrawing and the relief it provided was short-lived because instead of her arm, Chloeâs hand rested on Becaâs stomach. It moved back and forth slowly and Beca wanted to scream. It wasnât fair, and it was also wrong. She was getting painfully turned on when all Chloe was doing was being her usual touchy self. âPeople are going to expect us to kiss.â
Beca hadnât considered that detail in the grand scheme of their scheme. The concept sucked every molecule of oxygen from her lungs. She tried to say, âOh?â but it came out more like the squawk of one of the parrots she could hear in the trees behind their villa over the sound of the rain. She could feel Chloeâs breath on her shoulder and she twisted her pillow in her fist. It was pure agony.
âMhm.â
She had to clear her throat because trying to speak failed the first time. âWeâll...cross that bridge when we get to it.â She felt Chloeâs lips on her shoulder again and had to stifle a shiver. The torture needed to end, and fast. âI, uh, think I can fall asleep now.â
âOkay. Gânight.â
âNight.â
She didnât fall asleep for hours.
How about a DA2 companions (romanced too, please) reacting to Hawke who's afraid of large bodies and water and absolutely cannot (and will not) swim? If you do this one, thanks in advance
Aveline: She noticed it when they were on the ship from Gwaren, of course. When Hawke started to get more and more panicked the closer they came to the ship, Aveline approached them and asked what the matter was. Upon finding out the truth, Aveline made sure to push through the crowds of fellow refugees to get Hawke a position in the shipâs brig so that they can see the sky, thinking it would help. She always remembers Hawkeâs fear and always takes a greater care with them if sheâs in a party going to the Wounded Coast.Â
Isabela: She tried to hide her hurt at Hawkeâs immediate refusal to join her crew but when she learns the truth a few drinks later, she understands. âNot all of us have sea legs, you know,â she tells them with a grin. âSome of us are just gifted in other ways...like having a sixth sense for finding dirty pantaloons..â Romanced: She was a bit stumped for a while as she tried to think about how she could keep Hawke around and still be a captain of a ship. âI do find it quite alluring to think of having you waiting for me in a little island cottage...with five dogs. No! Six. And a horse, maybe.âÂ
Varric: Varric found out quite soon after Hawkeâs arrival to Kirkwall, and he can sympathise. âIâm not much of a dwarfy dwarf, you know, but I still get the sea sickness. Bah, weâre not made for the open sea. Too open.â He leans back in his chair and gets comfortable. âIâm fine right where I am, besides I heard that dwarves donât deal with the sea too well. You sure you donât have a bit of dwarf in you?âÂ
Carver: He found out as a child, when Hawke was getting pushed around by some of the local village kids and ended up getting thrown into the nearby lake. Carver had saved them, and since then has felt a strong sense of protectiveness over their elder sibling when it comes to their fear of water. He never brings it up to hurt them, even in their worst arguments, and if anyone dares make fun of Hawke for it, Carver will pummel them into the ground.Â
Bethany: Beth figured it out when she noticed how anxious Hawke got during bathtime in their childhood. Similar to Carver, sheâs very protective over their siblingâs fear and will be very harsh to people who think to use it against them. She makes a habit of warming up Hawkeâs bath for them (if theyâre not a mage) so that it will be hot in an effort to try and make it less stressful for them.Â
Fenris: Fenris was admittedly curious when he noticed how much Hawke hated going near the Wounded Coast, but didnât trouble them about it for fear of being rude. He overhears Varric mentioning it to one of the twins, but doesnât question Hawke about it- he figures if they want to talk about it, they will. Romanced: After some time together, he does let them know he understands. âI...will always protect you. From anything you fear.â With a somewhat wry smile, he murmurs, âEven from the ocean, if I must.â
Anders: Is surprised by Hawkeâs fear. It just...seems so mundane a thing for someone like Hawke to be afraid of. Then again, Anders once swam across Lake Calenhad to escape the Circle and would have frozen to death had he not been a capable mage. To him, the Lake meant freedom. He realises it obviously doesnât mean the same thing to other people. âItâs nothing to be ashamed of, you know,â he tells them one day on the Wounded Coast. âIâll save you if you fall in. Iâm an excellent swimmer.â Romanced: He offers to teach them to swim, but doesnât push it when heâs refused. He cuddles close to them and says, âYou know, cats are also scared of water. Sure youâre not hiding any whiskers on that cute face?âÂ
Merrill: Absolutely understands. Sheâs not that fond of water herself after the journey from Ferelden. She is happy to accompany Hawke to the Wounded Coast, but is always a little bit jittery around the water, and she and Hawke bond over this. Itâs good to find someone who actually understands. Romanced: Merrill likes to tell Hawke that she would dive in the middle of a lake for them, but Hawke usually laughs and says they wouldnât wish that on anyone. Sometimes when they get a little bit wistful, they dream of going on a honeymoon, but they both firmly agree the location must be miles away from a large body of water.Â
Sebastian: He hears it mentioned by one of the other companions but makes no comment on it until he is alone with Hawke. âIf you ever wish to discuss your fear, I will always be able to listen. Mayhaps I wonât share your fears, but I can try to help you cope with them as you wish.â He gives them a few strategies he used to deal with his nightmares following his family's death, and they seem to work well for Hawkeâs panic. Romanced: âWeâll have to make sure your chambers in Starkhaven face away from the Minanter river, wonât we?â He says with a gentle kiss and smile. âMy royal spouse will have only the finest protection from all threats, I assure you.âÂ
