Thought I'd take a quick look at who's left from Team Zahhak.
Arzhang: killed by Narsus in Chapter 30 Pulad: killed by Gieve and Isfan in Chapter 64 Gurgin: killed by Isfan in Chapter 109
That leaves 4/7 disciples plus the Holy Master. Oh, and we can't forget Zahhak himself. I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of them get taken down!
#arslan senki#the heroic legend of arslan#team zahhak#ah fuck okay i'll tag them all#arzhang#ghundi#gazdaham#bid#sanjeh#gurgin#pulad#the master#yes it did hurt me deeply to put that big red X over Gurgin's face 😭😭😭#my brain kept insisting Sanjeh is dead too but he's not?#unless I completely wiped it from my memory?#anyway over half of the disciples are left!

Hey! I did today’s illustration for @a-dinosaur-a-day! This is Coeluroides largus, a barely-known theropod from the Lameta formation. We think it’s probably some kind of ceratosaur, probably a Noasaurid, but all we have is some scattered vertebrae, so this reconstruction is based mostly on Masiakasaurus.
Also pictured is Sanjeh, a big-ish snake that lived alongside Coeluroides, and a hot newcomer on the scene, grass!

Would you like my mask? New year’s cats ^___^ Arslan Senki : catmasks!AU : : Hilmes, the Zahhak sorcerers
I’ve seen this picture at @innerchorus & thought it would be funny if Hilmes lost his mask and would have to take the cat's one from Zandeh. and the sorcerers would join him :)
from left to right: Bid (ocelot), Gurgin (lynx), Ghundi (puma), the unnamed head of the magic school (cat, just cat), Hilmes (another cat), Pulad (lion), Sanjeh (manul), Arzhang (leopard), Gazdaham (serval).
Happy new year!

Zandeh: 'Yeah, I've been busy rolling around in bed with a mage for the last 5 months, so what? FIGHT ME!'
S1 Episode 23, aka the episode where for a horrible moment I really thought Zandeh had died. Anyway, there's some more anime original Team Zahhak involvement here, in this scene where Zandeh sustains a horrible injury in his duel with Daryun. I really like the dialogue in this scene, too.
(I almost didn't survive this part of the episode, given that this duel is also cut with the scene of Kishward and Sam fighting in the underground aquaducts; it was so stressful and intense to watch!)
We only see one mage in this scene: Sanjeh, who pops out of the ground to shoot an arrow at Daryun, which is easily deflected. But I'm going to theorise that there was in fact another mage there, who retrieved Zandeh's body whilst Daryun was looking the other way, and that Sanjeh's arrow was more of a distraction than a genuine attempt to do harm to Daryun.
In the first of these two images, you can see Zandeh lying on the ground behind Daryun. Daryun, who had been looking down at his fallen enemy, is forced to turn in the other direction by Sanjeh's arrow and therefore doesn't see the moment Zandeh is removed, but as his body is revealed to be gone in the moment Sanjeh sinks back beneath the ground, there's no answer other than that a second mage must have done it. (Especially as, in the manga, the one time we see earth-travel magic being used to move another person, it appears to require physical contact.)
Team Zahhak need to keep Zandeh alive to spill more blood. They don't wish to kill Daryun either, for the same reasons. Sanjeh just didn't want him to see Zandeh's body being moved and interrupt.
I did think it was interesting to see one of the mages using a bow and arrow; it's not a weapon they seem to use in the manga or novels, though I can see why it was useful here.
I probably don't even need to mention it but yes I am 100% headcanoning that the one who came to pick Zandeh up was Gurgin.
#arslan senki#the heroic legend of arslan#zandeh#team zahhak#daryun#sanjeh#gurgin#tagging him for the headcanon alone tbh

From Episode 14. Hilmes decides to leave Peshawar Fortress and return to Ecbatana rather than wait to see how things play out with Sindhura. This scene features just him and Sanjeh.
By contrast, here's the manga scene from Chapter 42, where Zandeh and the soldiers he inherited from Kharlan are present. This scene is accurate to the novel.
(Honestly, it's no wonder anime viewers thought Zandeh might be dead; if I recall correctly, after he fell down that cliff with an arrow in his back, he doesn't show up in the anime again until Team Hilmes are leaving to go and oust Bodin from Zabul Fortress!)

Yeah, that’s something else I never understood - why Arzhang has blue eyes and all of the others have red eyes? Probably just another inconsistency, but it bothers me because I can’t even come up with a headcanon to explain it (the only thing I could thing of was what if the eyes are red when in a group but blue when acting alone...but when Sanjeh shows up right after Daryun has defeated Xandes he’s alone and his eyes are still red...).
