Child Saniwa: Tsurumaru Kuninaga, Kasen Kanesada, Hachisuka Kotetsu

It’s meme time

Tsurumaru Kuninaga:

“Yo, I’m Tsurumaru Kuninaga. Are you surpr- what?” “......” “Why is there a child here?”

The minute Tsurumaru finds out that you, his saniwa, is a literal baby, he immediately begins to sign the adoption papers. Damn it all, he failed to protect a child int he past and there’s no damn way is he going to fuck this up this time!

A part of him was ready to fucking kick down the doors of the government though, ready to scream at them for sending a child into battle. Yes during times of war, such a thing can happen, but the modern world is different? Besides, what is ever wrong with the idea of letting a kid be a kid?

Tsurumaru is a bad influence, spoils the lil tiny kid saniwa rotten. THey ask something from him? Of course he’ll give it to them. Candy? Always has it in his long sleeves somewhere. A hug? Immediately will carry the lil tiny child around without hesitation.

If aNYONE looks at his charge the wrong way, expect a sword to their throat immediately and a very miffed off crane, “Oh ho, do you have something to say to them? Why don’t you say it to me?” yes he will threaten the president or some other government big wig. Don’t fucking test him.

Seeing them smile is what makes Tsurumaru beam more than anything. it almost reaffirms his vow to protect them as long as he still lives and breathes. In battle, Tsurumaru is focused yes, but most of all he wants to return to them. Gods forbid anyone getting hurt and the little one is in tears. No way will he ever let them fall.

It warms his heart when the lil Saniwa gets along with the rest of the swords, especially the Dategumi. It’s like having permanent baby sitters working around the clock for the lil one. He’ll probably cry if he sees Sada-chan and the lil saniwa cuddling together just napping.

Will also start sobbing if the said saniwa calls Tsurumaru their big bro/dad. Tells them to always call him that from now on.

Expect Tsurumaru to always be causing little tickle fights with the saniwa! He wants to see them smile, to hear them laugh! He will surprise them, appearing out of nowhere to scare them and maybe with a lil batch of treats to smooth it over. He’s not trying to scare them to death! No! He adores them!

Tsurumaru can and will be found cuddling with the little kid during nappy time, holding them oh so close to his chest, almost hissing at anyone who tries to take them away from him.

Tsurumaru cannot help but thank the gods, and fate for this second chance of protecting a little one. He was only a sword back then, unable to do anything. But now? Oh, every time the little saniwa smiles at him and clings on to his big white coat, the crane swears it to the spirits and his own lifeforce that he will protect them better this time.

Kasen Kanesada

“It is quite the pleasure to meet you, maste- oh?”

“.....What have I gotten myself into?”

Now Kasen is pretty decent with kids, he isn’t terrible as he can deal with Sayo, but dealing with a lil saniwa like this causes him to pause. What had he gotten himself into this time? How would this affect their relationship? If Kasen is the starter sword of the little one, then Kasen would obviously feel a much stronger need to protect them.

If Tsurumaru is the enabler, then Kasen is the responsible parent. He ensures they go to bed on time, eating the right meals, dressed properly for the occasion, so on and so forth! Yes he will melt under their puppy eyes and eventually give in to their whims, but Kasen does have his limits. Ever so gently will he scold them, wiping away any tears they shed. 

Like Tsurumaru, Kasen will also hold little snacks in his pockets for them. Probably fruit compared to like candy but if the little one is a good kid he’ll slip them something sweet from Azuki. Has to stop the other swords from spoiling the little one rotten as well, even if he has to drag Tsurumaru away from them.

Whenever Kasen has to leave for a mission and has to leave the little one’s side, he leaves behind a poem and a note for them to cheer them up. In fact, his notes/poems are almost a frequent occurrence!

While Tsurumaru will full on bear hug his little saniwa, Kasen will mostly give little head pats. If they are desperate however, then he will give them a hug. It’s gentle, not at all suffocating. He would rub their back and maybe ruffle their hair a lil bit.

While Kasen is indeed protective, he won’t suddenly press a blade to the throat of the enemy...yet. His anger simmers before exploding, snidely making a quip about their lack of intelligence before threatening to kill them with his bare hands. He won’t lie and say that he isn’t angry at the government for having such a young one in the face of danger. They remind him of Sayo and how the tantou never got to be...well, himself.

Kasen is stern and strict yes, but he is not without method to his madness. He wants his lil saniwa to grow and become an elegant, proud, and move forward. He knows that he may not always be by their side and he worries of that day when he leaves them. He wants to spend much more time with them in his own way. It doesn’t have to be with words, it can just be existing together in the same space.

Kasen works a lot, and when the little saniwa asks him to relax, it’s very obvious that he is reluctant to do so. He has so much to do! The citadel needs him! But he will cave under their lil pouty face and sighs, agreeing to a nap with them in his arms. Expect the others to take pictures of this.

Kasen can and will cry if they refer to him as a big brother/father, compared to the outright crying of Tsurumaru, Kasen’s tears and sniffles can be seen but he won’t start bawling just yet. Pride does bloom within his chest and while Tsurumaru will ask them to always refer to him with the title of big bro/dad, Kasen will want to be referred to by his name or the big brother title. It will take some getting used to but he’ll fall into that routine.

Kasen fusses over the lil one over the smallest things. IF they trip and fall and hurt themselves? Kasen is by their side with a band-aid and ready to fight God. Can and will fight the time government by sending them letters to utterly burn them to the point they could never hope to recover from his words. Or just straight up kick down the door to an office and demand to see whoever the fuck is in charge.

Hachisuka Kotetsu

“I am Hachisuka Kotetsu, the true authentic-”

Hachisuka takes one good luck at this lil kid of a saniwa and he is confused. Why? How? What? Where? When? Though as he has experience of being a big brother, he will gently bend down to their height, questioning them oh so gently. Yes he is just as confused as they are, but Hachisuka will take it in stride. If Hachisuka is the saniwa’s starter sword, he will feel an immediate urge to protect them of course!

Sure he can handle Urashima but a whole ass child? Is there a manual for this???? Urashima, help! When he does have advice from other swords on how to take care of a kid, Hachisuka will dedicate himself to them.

Found taking pictures of the saniwa and Urashima getting along, no Hachisuka is not crying. What are you taLKING ABOUT

Compared to Kasen and Tsuru who are found crying when the saniwa refers to them as dad/big brother, Hachisuka is almost proud of it. “Of course, there is nothing I can’t do after all! If I will become family to my master, then so be it!” inwardly sobbing though.

If Tsurumaru is the enabler, and Kasen is the strict parent, then Hachisuka is the big brother who is trying his damn best. He is strict like Kasen but will submit to their will and ultimately spoil them in the end.

Can and will keep his lil saniwa away from Nagasone, but will relent if the saniwa adores his brother too. That won’t mean he’ll keep a close eye on them whenever they are together, worried about them. Maybe he’s worried about Nagasone too? He won’t admit it though.

If anyone threatens this tiny lil child of a saniwa, he immediately hands them over to Nagasone and Urashima, rolling up his damn sleeves and is ready to beat some ass. Nagasone has to hold him back though. It does mean Hachisuka can and will get into a shouting match with the fucker though.

Is that one father who does nothing but brag about the achievements of their child, proudly displaying their awards and adorable pictures of them for all to see! Has an entire photo album of the lil saniwa and their achievements, full of their smiles and they make him sob.

His affection isn’t as physical as Kasen or Tsurumaru. It’s soft headpats, sometimes awkward. But Hachisuka does care for them, tucking a lock of their hair behind their ear, telling them that he is proud of them, and bringing them into a gentle hug.

Hachisuka will carry the lil saniwa to bed and it’s during those times of quiet and peace where Hachisuka will think. Like Kasen, both purple haired warriors will appreciate these silent moments. As he strokes their head to sleep, Hachisuka knows that their time is limited. None the less, to be the best parental/familial figure this lil saniwa has ever had, he will do his best!

Toumyu – Tokyo Kokoro Oboe First Day Stage Review

Again, as always, this is not a bias free review. It is heavily opinionated and not objective.

Overall rating: 9/10

Acting – 10/10

Music – 9/10 (average of all the song scores)

Ease of understanding – 2/10

Direction – 8/10 or 4/10 I honestly dunno. It depends on the next shows and the follow through for the storyline. If it is satisfying then I think this shows direction was excellent but if it falls flat then this show was kinda the beginning of that.

 Overall Summary: Honestly, I dunno what happened rly but the music, staging and acting were excellent. The idol portion was maybe my favourite out of all the myus, and I really enjoyed all the new songs. The first half was fascinating, enthralling and a spectacle but almost completely incomprehensible as so little was clarified, and we were left with so many questions. I really recommend watching the show for yourself as no review I can write will adequately explain or demonstrate what the show was like.

 Now I’ll have to get into spoilers to go any further into what the show was like

As I normally do, I am going to give my thoughts on story, acting, songs and directing, then mention some extra stuff that I might think of at the end.

 Story: Please keep in mind that this show is complex, and I didn’t manage to catch everything, and I might be wrong about some things, but this is the best I could do, trying to get it out asap. I will only describe the first half bc the 2nd half has no story.

 So, the entire show revolves around Suishinshi and he is trying to work out what Mikazuki is doing and what his goal is.

In the first scene he is in modern Tokyo and then a HRA person shows up and everything collapses. He says that his consciousness was stolen. Red threads are pulled all over the stage. Sand pours into a pile near the back of the stage and a girl in Noh mask and traditional clothes comes onto stage and dances at the back. It is unclear if Suishinshi recognises her. The music that she was dancing to suddenly disappears and she stares at Suishinshi and then she runs off. Kiyomaro quickly runs on and tells Suishinshi that there is a battle and then they go off together.

 In the 2nd scene Kiyomaro and Suishinshi arrived in the 10th century and find two soldiers fighting HRA members. They are about to step in but Taira no Masakado arrives defeats them. The two are surprised but as the discuss that Mikazuki speaks to Suishinshi and tells him Masakado’s name then Suishinshi has flashes of the future of Tokyo/Edo and sees figures that are important to the city, the humans in this show.

 But he is broken out of this by Buzen and Kuwana. Kiyomaro describes how Suishinshi said that he saw time moving like film unwinding like a movie. And it was so disorientating that he didn’t know where he was or when it was anymore. He says he’s been like that since their last mission.

 Then Oodenta comes on and sings about being a Tenka Goken with Sohayanotsurugi. (I am mostly not going to include songs but it is their first appearance so I will here)

 The two are in Tokugawa controlled Edo, at some point in the early 17th century, and they see Tenkai, one of Ieyasu’s advisors who is a monk, chanting and is repels the HRA. They mention that he sang a very old nursery rhyme, may be the one from Mihotose, and Suishinshi comes on and says that he has heard that song before. The film of the future of Edo plays again. But is a bit shorter.

 Then it fades out and is replaced by fire and the sound of a sword being crafted. Samidare arrives on stage and sings then leaves and Murakumo does the same thing then they duet.

 They are greeted by Kuwana and Buzen who tell them that Kotegiri and Matsui aren’t there at the moment. Then they take Murakumo and Samidare on a tour of the citadel.

 Kiyomaro and Suishinshi come back on stage and Kiyomaro says it’s a good thing to have more allies. Suishinshi describes how Nikkari told him that it can be a good and bad thing. Kiyomaro then says that must be why he left on a trip. Kiyomaro then asks Suishinshi if there is anything, he can do for him and Suishinshi doesn’t answer but Kiyomaro takes that as a no and leaves the stage. Some of the film plays again then Suishinshi leaves too.

 Kuwana comes out and is farming then Suishinshi comes back on and asks about the crops and so Kuwana tells him about a patch of grass as Buzen runs off stage chasing a mole. Kuwana tells Suishinshi that he is getting the fields ready for the rain and then Suishinshi says something about the world ending, I did not get this bit. Then the film plays again

Then it cuts to Saigo Takamori and Katsu Kaishuu talking. They talk about the future and some other stuff that I didn’t quite catch. Oodenta and Sohayanotsurugi come on and discuss the end of the Tokugawa government. Oodenta says if they had more spiritual power then they would have been able to last longer. And Suishinshi asks where he went after the end of Edo and the Tokugawa government.

 Kiyomaro then comes on and asks the Saniwa about abandoned timelines and is told not to think about it as there are some things it’s better not to know.

 Then we go to 1457 and see Ota Dokan supervising the building of Edo castle. Suishinshi wonders why Dokan decided to build a castle in that specific place. Dokan talks about enjoying the flowers and having a picnic there. Suishinshi then describes how as the seasons changed Edo went on to become the centre of Japan and his birthplace.

 During Dokan and Samidare’s duet the little girl comes out again and dances then hands a big leaf she was dancing with to Dokan and leaves the stage again. Then the film plays again.

 Sohayanotsurugi comes on fighting the HRA. He is joined by Oodenta, Murakumo and Samidare, Then Tenkai comes on stage again and repels the HRA. Suishinshi says he needs to make a boarder within himself between what is him and what isn’t him.

 Buzen comes on stage and says he believes anything that can think and remember is living. Suishinshi asks him if that means that if there is no memory of a specific living thing then does it mean it didn’t live at all and Buzen says that he’s not a person who can answer that. During their discussion, the little girl in the mask returns.

 Buzen leaves the stage and a full moon is visible in the back before it fades into the film playing backwards.

 In the next scenes we are back at the building of Edo castle and Buzen is helping the workers pull a big stone along. Buzen has clearly been helping the group before as Dokan welcomes him back from his trip and says he wishes he could go on a trip too, but he’s too surrounded by war. He asks Buzen where he went and Buzen told him he visited the sea and says it would be nice if they could go together sometime.

 Samidare comes to talk to Buzen and he asks him what Dokan is like and Buzen says he’s an amazing person and he would love to show him the future of Edo.

 Suishinshi, Kiyomaro and Oodenta come on the stage and Kiyomaro seems to be asking Oodenta about Mikazuki. Oodenta wonders when they were first called the Tenka Goken. Then Suishinshi and Kiyomaro start talking about curses, sorry this bit was incomprehensible to me.

 The curse may be in relation to Taira no Masakado who is believed to be a vengeful ghost who still plagues Tokyo today.

 The next scene shows Suishinshi watching as Masakado fights off four people and then is shot in the head, killing him. As he dies Suishinshi wonders why he has to die. If they’re meant to protect history then why aren’t they protecting him. Whose history are they protecting. Many figures with the same outfit as him but bands over their eyes and long grey hair come on and surround Masakado changing him into what resembles the painting of his vengeful spirit. He then stares at Suishinshi and leaves the stage.

 Suishinshi asks if this is also a curse. He says he has to make himself normal again. Saying his name is Suishinshi Masahide. However, his name that was written on the screen at the back melts away. It is replaced by Mikazuki’s name then lots of other Touken Danshi names play across the screen and disappear like they’re being erased. He calls out that his name is Suishinshi Masahide as the names fade into letters, the red lines cross across the stage again and the child with the Noh mask appears again.

 In the next scene Dokan is about to be executed when the HRA save him and run off. Buzen sees this and waves at him. Dokan smiles and walks towards him, going to say something but Buzen jumps towards him and stabs him in the heart. He says that that is because that is what the history is. He says that he didn’t want to have to kill him even as an order then walks to him, closing his eyes. He laments that he never got to take Dokan to the quiet ocean. (A reference to Paraiso) Samidare says that he should be doing the dirty jobs and the next time Buzen should let him do it instead. Buzen says that it’s fine and that he wants Samidare to be able to just sing and dance. He asks him to perform for Dokan. The child with the Noh mask appears again and lays the leaf that she handed to Dokan earlier, on his chest.

 The next scene has Kuwana farming again. He is approached by Murakumo who asks him what he’s doing. He explains that there is nothing there, so he has to prepare it for when the sun is bright, and the rain is beautiful. Murakumo reflects that rain is important for crops and Kuwana says that clouds are important too. Clouds and rain are in a circle where clouds will become rain, rain will fall then will trickle into the ocean. The water will then leave the sea and become clouds again. He says that they are all connected in this circle. Humans, history and all the swords. Kuwana tastes the earth and says that it is good earth. Murakumo says that he would like the make the field a field of Kerria but then goes back on this saying they should grow food as flowers aren’t useful as you can’t eat them. Kuwana says you may not be able to eat them, but they are needed, even in this world. Murakumo tries to eat some of the dirt and says that Kuwana is very weird for trying to eat the earth. Kuwana just laughs along and says that maybe he is.

 We go back to Tenkai who Oodenta and Sohayanotsurugi are with. Then Masakado appears and tries to attack them. Finally, with Samidare, Murakumo, Kuwana and Kiyomaro’s help as well, they manage to defeat Masakado but apparently there are 6 more. Tenkai creates a spiritual barrier in the place where they defeated Masakado and Tenkai tells them they have to go defeat the rest. Sohayanotsurugi, Murakumo and Kuwana leave but Oodenta asks Kiyomaro if Tokyo/Edo always had that many monsters. He remarks, I think, that if a person lives for 100 years then they will become a Tsukumogami. (this is what I think I heard but it doesn’t rly make sense as a Tsukumogami is an object that becomes sentient rather than being a person hence why I am confused)

 In the next scene Mikazuki is projected onto the screen and Suishinshi demands to know what he is doing. He takes out his sword and tries to fight Mikazuki, but the image ripples and he has to take some steps back, saying he knows Mikazuki isn’t the kinda of opponent he can fight against. He attacks it again and the image disappears, reappearing to the side. Suishinshi says that he is going against the river of history. He attacks that image, and it reappears on the other side. He says Mikazuki has taken on a very sad role in the flow of history then attacks the image again. The image appears on the back again and Suishinshi asks what on earth was Mikazuki trying to protect. He says that Mikazuki is doing something horrible and this time the image of Mikazuki blocks all of his attacks. Mikazuki brings his sword up and the instrumental of Hana no Utena can be heard then as he brings it down Suishinshi sees a flash of many of the humans who have been in Toumyu so far, including people like Yoshitsune, Sadachika and Souji. Then Suishinshi starts saying the names of flowers. I don’t rly know why. But as he is saying this the girl with the mask appears again behind the screen. Suishinshi asks if all the flowers were her doing and if she was making time move along. Then he seems to realise who she is and says ‘I see, you are-’ then it cuts off. The screen and sounds statics and Suishinshi falls to the ground.

 In the next scene Kiyomaro asks the Saniwa if he can look after Suishinshi, saying he will definitely come back, making it seem like he is gone for a while. Kiyomaro says that Suishinshi is really amazing and the Saniwa agrees. Suishinshi then comes in and asks for permission to go after Mikazuki saying that his eyes looked so sad ‘at that time’. He says that with even a little time he might be able to lighten his burden. He says that history is like a big river but the small rivers coming off it can still be beautiful. The Saniwa then says he will leave it to Suishinshi. Suishinshi asks Kiyomaro to come with him and they leave together.

 In the next scene Oodenta and Sohayanotsurugi are listening to gunfire and canons and talking about how Edo is ending (as it will soon be named Tokyo instead). Kiyomaro and Suishinshi walk on and Kiyomaro asks why they have come to the Bakumatsu time (the end of the Tokugawa government). Suishinshi says there is something that needs to be fixed in that time. Kiyomaro says that he will believe Suishinshi and follow him. Sohayanotsurugi and Oodenta come and join them and Suishinshi tells them about his plan. He takes out a map and indicates all the places in which Tenkai made kekkai and what the effect of those was, I couldn’t catch that bit. I couldn’t really understand the rest of the bit when it’s just the four swords.

 Then Katsu Kaishuu comes on and is surrounded by HRA. He keeps spitting at them for some reason. The swords defeat the HRA and Kaishuu thanks them. Suishinshi asks him if he is trying to protect the Tokugawa government and he seems insulted by that. He says that it isn’t anything that small. He is trying to protect the world and says that it is his dream to go on a trip somewhere. Even if everyone he wanted to go with is dead. Suishinshi gets incredibly excited and happy and says that Kaishuu is really an amazing person. He then runs off but quickly runs on again and says that Kaishuu has a wonderful sword. (which is probably him as he was one of Kaishuu’s swords)

 Kuwana and Murakumo come back on with Tenkai, fighting more HRA. Another Masakado comes on and they have to fight him. The four from the previous scene then join them as well. Tenkai then makes the final kekkai. Suishinshi asks him why he wanted to protect the land. He says that’s just his thing and he thanks them saying he was able to protect Edo because of them. Then he dies.

 The next scene has Dokan with Samidare and Buzen as they look at the newly completed Edo castle, obviously earlier in Dokan’s timeline. Dokan asks if Samidare knows why it’s beautiful and Buzen says because of the people. Dokan agrees. A place that is built by people and lived in by people is beautiful. Samidare then asks if he thinks that then does he not find nature beautiful. Dokan says that he does because of the heart of that thing. Samidare then barks at Dokan and apologises, saying it is because he was so moved. When Dokan laughs he hides his face in his scarf which is literally the cutest thing ever. Suishinshi then suddenly appears and says that he has something to ask Dokan. He asks him why he decided to build Edo castle. Was it as a home or for battle? Dokan says maybe a little bit of both then recites a poem about Kerria and says that Suishinshi will understand what he means one day. Suishinshi and Kiyomaro leave. Buzen asks Samidare if he understands the poem and Samidare explains it – I didn’t understand the explanation though.

 In the next scene Masakado is fighting off HRA and Suishinshi and Kiyomaro appear to help him. Suishinshi asks Masakado why he started the uprising and Masakado asks him why he’s asking him that. He then says there was another person who asked him that and a crescent moon is projected onto the back. He says Mikazuki called him a friend. Suishinshi tells him Mikazuki has taken a heart-breaking role upon himself and Masakado says that he knows. History is nothing but winners and losers. History is just things and people that are left over. Things like Suishinshi and Kiyomaro. The smell of flowers and the tone of songs. He wonders whether things that aren’t there anymore were ever there at all. He confirms with Suishinshi that he is going to lose the battle. He wants to leave behind the trace that he was there so no one can think that he wasn’t. He says Mikazuki is too kind. He then says some stuff I couldn’t get. He then goes to leave but Suishinshi asks him again why he started the uprising. He says it was all for a woman.

 He starts singing and all the other humans join him.

 In the next scene Suishinshi tells Kiyomaro that wherever he goes he can only see a crescent moon, never a full moon. He says history is just what the winners say happened, no one can ever know truly what happened, no matter how sad this may be. (As he says this the girl appears again, she is dancing in a circle of Kerria flowers). Even if his memories aren’t completely there, he knows that all of history is connected.

 Then all the Gous walk on and the crescent moon appears. Mikazuki says as expected of Suishinshi. Mikazuki says Suishinshi doesn’t have to say out loud what he has worked out, his feelings are enough. Suishinshi was able to lighten his load. Suishinshi shouldn’t be sad for him because this is Mikazuki’s role. But there are things he cannot do so he needs help. Suishinshi and Kiyomaro have to become the link between the past and the future. The Gous have to be the ones to connect to people. Buzen is about the asks Mikazuki something when all the Gous double over as if they have a flash of memory like the film that Suishinshi has been seeing. Buzen looks horrified and asks Mikazuki if it could mean- but he is cut off by Mikazuki. Mikazuki laughs and remarks how beautiful the moon is and then leaves. Suishinshi and Kiyomaro say they have to fulfil their role then leave. The Gous then start saying confusing things. Murakumo says ‘a little, just a little’, Samidare says ‘Yes, the memory’, And then Buzen says ‘It seems like we Gou are-g’ then he is cut off.

 The next scene begins the same as the first scene, with Suishinshi in modern Tokyo. And he says he finally knows who someone is, most probably the girl. The full moon is visible behind him and the dirt is falling from the ceiling again. He says, ‘So, you came here? But if this hadn’t happened and you could have chosen would you have come here at all? The curse, the kekkai. You must be frustrated. I don’t know why you did this, but I respect your determination. The people who were here and the people who weren’t, the people who came and the people who chose not to come, it’s not fun for them. Your feelings have reached me. Thank you. And I have a request, please don’t hurt this time, reality, or the things that you chose. It’s gotten across to me. It would be nice if it could be understood. Barriers aren’t just in people’s hearts. We will definitely meet again. So, don’t close off or hurt things. To achieve that goal, we will do everything’.

As he is speaking the HRA are pulling the red ribbons across the stage again and on his very last sentence all of the other swords join him.

 In the next scene different swords come on and just small talk a little.

Kiyomaro and Suishinshi come on. Suishinshi says his mission is to make sure everyone is smiling. Kiyomaro then asks him about the girl and Suishinshi says he doesn’t know her name. The wonder what type of person she could be. Suishinshi says he thinks she is a person doing her best.

 And that is the end of the first half.

 Acting: I am not going to go person by person because honestly, [I have 0 criticisms for any of the actors. I cannot believe that this was the first show. The singing and acting was amazing.] I am leaving what I initially wrote as it was my first impression but as I dove into the songs a little more I realise there is a lot of room for improvement in the singing department.

The standouts for me were Samidare, Dokan and Masakado. I loved all three actors and thought they were excellent even among this incredible cast. I will also give a shoutout to Nagata Seiichirou, Murakumo’s actor, as I have seen him a lot in Prince of tennis where personally I really did not enjoy his acting or singing and was so pleasantly surprised to see how much he has improved. He obviously practiced so hard for this show.

 Songs:

Obviously, I don’t know the song titles, so I am just gonna to refer to who is singing the song. (except for Touken Ranbu) I do have singing experience, but I do not know all the technical terms so please bear with me for what I am trying to express. This will be less in depth than my Kuromyu song review because I spent so much time on the story already and I really want to get this out soon.

 Touken Ranbu – 10/10

I love the new accompaniment. While personally I was not getting bored of the previous Touken Ranbu I know people who were but I also now that I would not have been happy if they changed the song, so I am really happy with what they did. It feels nostalgic but also fresh.

 Taira no Masakado solo – 7/10

I think the song is good and very well sung but Bishin wavers on the notes at the beginning a bit hence why it is only 7/10. It might change depending on the final performance. This song is really good but because of the way it is written it sounds pretty difficult to sing as it isn’t in lines that flow to get but more short phrases that, while being sung not spoken, sound pretty harsh to get out.

 Kiyomaro and Suishinshi duet – 10/10

This song is beautiful and so well sung. Nobunaga and Seiya’s voices really compliment each other well. The gentle music and gentle singing works, really well with emphasizing how worried Kiyomaro is for Suishinshi. When I was watching it with people it was fun to see literally everyone be like ‘Well I guess I stan Tenpou now’ immediately.

 Oodenta and Sohayanotsurugi duet – 9/10

This song is really amazing, and I like how different it is to the previous duet. It starts of with a beat that makes it sound like Oodenta is going to rap. Raita has one of the best voices in this show and he really showcases it in this song. He goes from singing higher to lower and nails both of them. The only reason why this is a 9 and not a 10 is that Masaki’s voice is definitely not as strong and he doesn’t sound great on some of the notes, hoping he can improve for the final show. The song is still 9 though because his solo bit is much shorter and his harmony with Raita sounds really good.

 Samidare and Murakumo duet – 8/10

I know I haven’t given it 10/10 but this is my favourite song in the show. (I am very biased towards Gous and Yamazaki Shogo) This song is again, hugely difficult. It goes from quite low to very high and honestly it is no surprise that Shogo and Seiichan didn’t nail every single note on the first night. I am so excited to hear this on the album and on the final night. Shogo has some tension in his voice, probably from nerves, and this is not his best performance, but I know he will improve as the show goes on. Honestly, this song isn’t sad at all, but I started to tear up during this song. I was not a fan of Seiichan in Prince of tennis. I did not think much of his acting and singing and I have not re-watched any of his casts shows more than once. So, I was so happy here to hear how much he has improved. Not only his acting but his singing is world’s apart from a few years ago. It is abundantly clear how hard he worked to improve his singing and it has obviously paid off as he nailed this song despite it being rather difficult. Can’t wait for this song to become a 10/10 when Shogo can nail all of his notes on final night.

 Kuwana solo – 8/10

This song is so adorable and sweet, and I love it but Tomoya sounds so nervous during the song. He misses quite a few notes and when he does sing it well his voice has a lot of tension in it. His high notes and transitions are a bit flat. I hope as the show goes on he can relax and sing this song to the best of his ability, taking it up to a 10.

 Ota Dokan solo – 7/10

This song is really fun and is about the workers moving the rocks for Edo castle around. The chorus is really fun. I don’t think Dokan’s actor has the best voice ever but the song is written in a more traditional style which I think compliments his voice and brings out the best from him. Very solid song that I liked.

 Samidare Dokan duet – 5/10

I honestly don’t know if it’s the song writer not exactly getting it for this song or if it’s the singers but for most of this song it really does not sound great. Their voices do not harmonise well for the most part, except one harmony that was quite nice. Dokan’s actor really doesn’t sound good in this song and I think the main reason it made it to even 5/10 was because Shogo managed to hit some of hit notes very well. I really really hope this song improves for the final show.

 Tenkai solo – 7/10

I really really enjoy the Buddhist chanting. I think it sounds really good with the song. Tenkai’s actor does not have a very good voice but he doesn’t sing too much in the song and the chanting covers for him a little.

 Buzen Dokan duet – 4/10

This is a reprise of Dokan’s solo but with Buzen singing the first half of the song. I really don’t think Yuta sounds good singing in this style. I didn’t hear much tension from either of their voices for this song so I honestly don’t know if this song will improve, the song style just doesn’t seem to fit Yuta’s voice. While I still really enjoy the chorus, I don’t think either actor sang this well at all and I am just glad there weren’t any harmonies in this song.

 Buzen solo – 8/10

Yuta really redeems himself in this song. His voice sounds really great and the emotion is definitely there. While not every note is perfect, it is worlds better than the previous song. He really nails the bits that require more projecting of his voice, mostly, and he has a nice contrast between rough and soft.

 Kuwana solo reprise – 9/10

This song is much shorter, so he basically gets +2 for every line that he nails. His voice wavers a little on the first line hence why it is a 9/10 but definitely getting there for this song.

 Kuwana Murakumo duet – 7/10

I do like this song, but it’s not terribly well sung by Tomoya and Seiichan has his moments as well. I really hope this is just due to it being the first night as I see a lot of promise in the song and am very excited to hear it with a little more hitting the notes.

 Taira no Masakado solo reprise – 6/10

I think they wrote this song as a little too aggressive as with the shouting he has to do as part of this song his voice suffers a lot. While I get it has to be aggressive because he is attacking them and is now cursed/vengeful spirit/HRA but I feel like they could have managed the aggressiveness with the song actually sounding good a bit better.

 Oodenta Sohayanotsurugi duet – 7/10

Pretty good song. Pretty solid singing from both of them. It’s very short so I don’t really have many notes.

 Sohayanotsurugi Oodenta duet – 7/10

This was pretty difficult to rate. Masaki’s voice is not amazing in this song, but he carries the emotion it is meant to have, really well. Raita is doing amazingly as always, and their harmonies are good I just didn’t feel like I could put it above 7 because of Masaki’s voice.

 Full cast song – 8/10

The song starts off with just Masakado and then the other humans join in then the swords too.

I think the beginning solo bit from Bishin is his best singing in the show, he manages to do the shouting but still sound really good and I love his voice in this song.

I think Tenkai and Dokan’s actors also sound incredible in this song for the most part.

There is a little bit in the middle where some of the humans and swords sing individually and like everyone missed their notes and harmonies which brought this song down from a 10 because it starts and ends beautifully with incredible singing and harmonies. They just need to tighten the bit in the middle and make sure everyone is nailing their parts.

At the very end of the song Suishinshi has a solo bit and I wasn’t quite sure if it was the same song or a different song, but I included it with this one for now. Seiya sounds really good and it ties up the song well with well sung solo parts at the beginning and end.

 Suishinshi solo – 10/10

Sung beautifully. Pretty short but there are not faults with it.

 All sword song/End of first half song – 7/10

This song is beautifully written. The vocals are very hit and miss though. When they hit the notes, they sound amazing, but when they don’t it is pretty dire. For the most part the harmonies are good and I hope they can just perfect the solo lines.

 INTERVAL

 (I’m guessing the song title) Revolution – 10/10

Very solid start to the idol section. The music and dancing slap so hard. This song is really fun and just so great.

 Sohaya Oodenta idol duet – 10/10

Masaki sounds so much better and way more confident here. This song is really really good and just sounds amazing.

 Kiyomaro and Suishinshi duet – 7/10

It kinda seems like Masaki and these two have reversed. Masaki sounds much better in the idol songs and these two sound worse. Their slightly off-pitch for a couple of notes. The chorus, which is so adorable, is absolutely perfect but some of their solo bits aren’t the best.

 Gou4 song – 8/10

The beginning doesn’t have the strongest vocals and I don’t really like the way it seems to be meant to sound at the beginning, but I quite like the rest of the song. Again, Yuta gets the wrong pitch occasionally when he sings but does seem like he’s working on it and getting better.

 1st 2nd layer song – 10/10

They have a dance break section at the beginning and the music slaps as does the music for the entire song. It has a very modern feel to it but then it adds some jazz instruments and then Raita, who is a professional beatboxer, does some beatboxing and it just sounds so good. This song is more spoken than sung but no complaints about the singing.

 2nd 2nd layer song – 10/10

Another really fun song. Pretty solid singing from everyone. I can’t really fault anything.

 3rd layer song – 9/10

I do really like this song and it is a really different 3rd layer song to most of the ones we’ve had before. For the dance thing in the performance. (previous shows have had like ribbons, blankets and spinning lights) They had all of the swords playing the taiko drums. I would have liked maybe something that he hadn’t seen before as we have taiko drums in every 3rd layer song normally, but it was very well done. Not every note was perfect, hence why it isn’t a 10 but once they can nail that it will be.

Touken Ranbu reprise – 10/10

Just as good as the first one. Still loving the new arrangement.

 Direction: All the blocking and choreography stuff was very well done. I am a bit nervous about that this show is indicating for the future of Toumyu and if the story doesn’t follow through this show is gonna seem much worse in retrospect so I think the director should be very careful as he continues with the next few shows.

 Other things:

 This really feels like the start of the Toumyu story arc. Of course, we had already got hints of it in shows like Tsuwamono and Kishou Hongi, but this has really kicked it off in a big way. I think what they have done is quite dangerous and may possibly alienate some people from Toumyu as this show was very complicated and a lot of Japanese fans were also extremely confused. I really hope people stick with Toumyu and that this arc is handled well and that confusing shows like this don’t become the norm. I am positively apprehensive.

 Honestly, I did really like this show and I thought it was interesting, but I wouldn’t like to see any other Toumyu shows quite as complicated as this. I think it was good as a once off but I think I would be a bit put off Toumyu if they kept doing shows like this.

 I will say I did not see the point in Oodenta and Sohayanotsurugi in this show. While both actors did very well, and their songs were for the most very enjoyable they played almost no part in the story. The only important role they had was one scene where Kiyomaro asks him about Mikazuki because they are both Tenka Goken but even if that he doesn’t really answer. I wouldn’t normally bring this up but since they had 8 people instead of 6, I felt like I should say this. I do think it was a bit of a mistake to go up to 8 for this show, especially as it was so complicated and so I think other things didn’t quite get the time they deserved because of Oodenta and Sohayanotsurugi being there.

 Overall: Very good but also depends on where Toumyu goes from here.

In his most recent venture back to present day Tokyo, a curious item caught Jin's attention. Deciding to buy it on a whim, the saniwa brings it back with him. "Here. This is for you, Kashuu Kiyomitsu." Jin proffers the sky glittery sky blue bag out of the uchigatana. What's inside? Several sets of nail polish strip stickers with most of them being red.

     “Hm? What’s this?” His eyes glistened at the prospect of a gift. It wasn’t often that he got spontaneous presents from the saniwa outside of special occasions, and so this must mean Kashuu has been doing exceptionally well —which, not to brag, but the extra time he’s been investing in sparring sessions wasn’t just for fieldwork skipping purposes.

    That said, he still took the bag with the conscientious skepticism of a sword who once received a single penny as a gift. His worries melted away once he actually looked inside and found a wide variety of nail strips, something he had only ever seen in magazines. Most of them were different shades of red, ranging from matte to glossy or glittery.

    “Eeeh—. This looks pretty nice, Aruji. Thanks!” A smile adorned his lips as he examined the little details. “I never thought you’d have an eye for this kind of thing,” he confessed, “guess that means I should have high expectations for my sixth anniversary?” the uchigatana teased.

i'm thinking of writing a touken ranbu character, but all i've seen is the anime. also what kind kf rpc is the fandom anyway because i'm really shy & anxious about entering since i've been in other fandoms that aren't quite so kind...

Okay, fast your safety belt, anon, because it got longer than I was expecting. I’ll answer it from the easiest to the hardest (it’s actually from shorter to longer), so grab a water a bottle and tune up Kaeru Basho in the highest volume you can!

The Fandom:

Tourabu is the most welcoming fandom that I had ever came across. Some months (more than one year, by now) ago I was very, very hesitant to dive into because I was invited by my awesome friend @odigcs even before I watched the Hanamaru anime. Of course I had a good experience and I’m still amazed (and ultra glad) how this fandom in the rpc is incredibly welcoming. To be honest: I never had a bad time in this fandom.

On “all I’ve seen is the anime”:

I highly recommend you to look up some anthologies (there’s plenty of them at mangarock) if you wanna see more of a specific character. On my own experience who started with the Hanamaru anime before actually playing the game, Hanamaru isn’t so welcoming to new fans since there’s almost no explanation about the setting or the character’s backgrounds (save Okitagumi and Odagumi).

(I’m assuming you only watched the Hanamaru anime due to being more popular)

The Katsugeki anime is a bit “newcomers-friendly” on the point of explaining the setting and I also enjoyed the characterization. However, is UFOTABLE, so be prepared to fast-pacing story.

There’s the musicals and stage plays which I hadn’t the opportunity to watch (yet) as many players out there, but people said that they are good to understand the characters more in dept. However, some songs are available and they are awesome.

Playing the game isn’t necessary, the official wiki serves so much as a translator that most people that never played the game are able to grasp the idea. (Myself included, playing the game just gave me a new meaning to the word “despair” when I almost broke my Taikogane) However, the game currently has much more characters than in the anime, so it’s a good idea to look on the wiki.

Personal Tips:

I myself have no confidence to rp a canon character (in any fandom) because of the varying headcanons and stuff, but I guess that the Tourabu fandom will welcome you with open arms!

I only have ocs, but this is also a valid tip to the ones who play was canon characters: make a research about the sword’s past and their former owners, it’s a huge addition! I had seen some canon players which did their research and their portrayals are uniquely beautiful! After all, Tourabu relies A LOT on history.

And if you are interested in making an oc which isn’t a Saniwa (since the saniwa is an human being, it’s easy-peasy-lemon-squezy to make one) I’m gonna say just one thing: You’ll probably need to jump from site to site do map a sword’s story. Of course, I like to go in depth, but a small research also works. The main problem is when the sword has more than one name (Hizamaru’s sword official name in expositions is Usu Midori) or there’s two swords with the same name (A wakizashi and a tachi, both called Junkei Samonji).

On the topic of blades which are missing, burnt or broken to the point of being irreparable, thrown at the ocean and melted, some canon characters are under this category. To name a few: Hotarumaru was (possibly) thrown at the ocean, Otegine became a block of melted iron, Horikawa Kunihiro is missing (probably is also in the bottom of the ocean) Yagen Toushirou disappeared during the Honnouji Event, probably burnt completely, Kashuu Kiyomitsu broke and was discarded. So it means that using swords which doesn’t exist anymore is completely fine.

A small thing that I wasn’t gonna mention, but I decided to:

And because I know that someone will ask me it someday: “Touken Ranbu has a exclusively male cast, why do you have female tsukumogami?” Well, I’m not the only one to have this kind of ocs (usually I see a lot of naginata girls because naginata were used mostly by women) but as you may have noticed: none of my girls are swords. (With the exception of Naomasa and Ibarakinaibou which has pointy parts that can pierce skin.) They are essentially blunt weapons (and with the exception of Ibarakinaibou, concealed weapons).

人妻な刀とかいないかなぁ～。　… はぁ、いないかぁI wonder if there are any swords that are married women~! … Huh, there aren’t?

The quote above is (Kiwame) Houchou Toushirou’s smiting line. I never thought too much about it before, but since it was mentioned: he said specifically “sword” (刀) but not “weapon” (武器) as whole… And, you guys who follow me for a while might have noticed that I work with the “why not?” question a lot.

I had heard about the kanabo that Ibarakinaibou is based on, since it was considerably a “legendary” one I thought: “that’s gonna be a GOOD thing to try”. However I didn’t added her before Naomasa and Rashinbansaihai because I had NO SOLID INFORMATION about this kanabo before I came across these two war fans. And I must confess, it was A PAIN to get a BIT of information.

I did this, and until now no one seemed to be think it’s a bad idea, also no one sees nothing wrong with sword girls. After all, Houchou specified “married women”. This last section is just a thing that I wanted to share.

I do apologize for taking so long in updating. I have family visiting from out of the country and things have been extremely chaotic over here. I finally got the chance to write and wrote this chapter in one sitting so I apologize for the lack of quality.

Anyway, the story is moving on!

The heat had been steadily rising for several days now and finally peaked, much to the citadel’s disdain the overwhelming heat remained constant. As a natural result, most of the sword warriors had refused to move, let alone do any chores. As an almost desperate means to encourage everyone the Saniwa had taken some drastic measures and splurged on an array of frozen treats to encourage everyone.

Some of the tantos had been charged with taking the frozen treats and bottles of water around to the residents of the citadel in shifts accompanied by Ichigo, Kousetsu, Souza, Kasen, and Kogarasumaru. Saniwa’s orders were that they make sure that everyone was staying cool and hydrated.

Sengo Muramasa seated himself on the porch after finishing helping with the laundry, his second frozen “popsicle” of the day in hand. To his left, Mikazuki Munechika sipped his latest taste of modern marvels; something Kasen had called “iced tea”. Beside him Kogitsunemaru was fussily trying to tie up his hair, ears twitching in agitation as he did so.

“It’s too hot.” Sengo complained for about the third time just since he’d finished his chores.

Mikazuki made a sound of agreement beside him and sipped from his favorite cup. “Without the heat, it is difficult to appreciate the cold.”

He nodded, “but then winter comes and everyone complains it’s too cold and wishes for summer.”

“It seems easier just to be complacent, don’t you think?”

Sengo joined his chuckling. He went to lick the popsicle steadily melting in his hand, before his tongue could touch the freezing ice a finger tapped his shoulder. He curiously looked for the source and found nothing. When his head turned back it was just in time to see Tonbokiri take a bite out of his treat.

“Gah! Tonbokiri you’re so mean!” Sengo whined and switched the popsicle to a different hand away from his clansman. The three of them laughed at his reaction, Tonbokiri covered his mouth with the back of his hand while he swallowed it down.

“Don’t be stingy.” Tonbokiri chuckled and joined them sitting on the porch. Sengo glared at him half-heartedly then started on the remainder of his treat.

“Not working out today?”

Tonbokiri echoed Sengo’s earlier complaints. “It’s too hot. Yamabushi and I are petitioning the Saniwa for permission to do water training at the beach. They said it’s too hot for that right now and would prefer for the temperature to drop a few degrees.”

“I may just join you.” Sengo bit into the last piece of his treat, licked up the mess it had made on his hand and set the stick on the tea tray. “It sounds nice.”

Tonbokiri hummed, staring off into the distance as Muramasa put his head on his shoulder and followed his gaze. After a long moment of silence between the four of them, Tonbokiri broke it when he suddenly remembered something.

“Ah, Muramasa, the Saniwa asked me to find and summon you to them.”

“What?” His head popped up to look at the yari.

“It’s nothing bad. I promise.” To encourage him, Tonbokiri stood first and offered his hand. Sengo took it and didn’t let go after he stood. Neither made a move to release the other while they walked through the citadel together toward the Saniwa’s office.

“Master?” The yari called out, waited a moment, then opened the door and walked in with his clansman in toe. “I bring Muramasa.”

Saniwa looked up from their work, surrounded by stacks of papers and glowing devices the two sword warriors couldn’t name or identify the functions of. They eagerly waved the two in and pushed aside the device they were working with.

Tonbokiri let Sengo go first and join the master where they worked on the floor. Meanwhile, he stood just a few feet between Sengo and the door and off to the side.

Saniwa’s hands started moving quickly, almost too fast for either to understand until Tonbokiri gently alerted them.

They took a deep breath and let it out. “Sengo Muramasa. How are you?”

“Miserably hot,” he complained again. “I tried to strip earlier and Hasabe yelled at me to get back to work.”

Saniwa smiled at that, their shoulder shaking with unheard laughter. “You’ve been working very hard these past weeks. Thank you.”

“Nonsense; my duty is to protect history. I will take on whatever work is required of me to fulfill my duty.”

“Admirable.” Saniwa nodded. “In that case, I have a new job for you.” They pointed at Tonbokiri, indicating for them to bring them something. The yari nodded and excused himself from the room, leaving Sengo alone with the Saniwa.

Sengo’s throat suddenly burned and his mouth dried instantly. Was this perhaps it? Had the master whom he’d come to love so dearly, yet had grown fearful of over the course of mere days finally decided to punish him? Would he be broken? Would he be forced to undergo a kaisan and change his signature again?

A rhythmic tapping on the wooden floor suddenly caught his attention and he realized he was staring at his hands clenched in his lap. He looked up to see Saniwa tapping the floor to get his attention, unable to touch him due to the distance between them.

“I have been thinking.” Their hands paused while they thought of how to put their exact thoughts into words. “I have come to understand something important. I do not think a sword is capable of hating their own master, let alone killing them.”

Sengo sat up straight, his orange eyes following every movement of the Saniwa’s hands and their ever-changing expression always adjusting to match what they signed.

“Tonbokiri has told me you are still troubled by what happened in the training hall. You fear bringing me and the others here harm. You have repeatedly experienced visions and memories that are not your own.”

At his nod, they continued.

“The supposed curse of the Muramasa swords is indeed a famous one, but I saw little evidence of it while doing my research before you arrived. I have been thinking about this a lot. I think that rather than wanting to kill their master, Muramasas wanted to protect them. Thus they desired to eliminate any threat to their masters. The desires of these cherished swords were so strong they would possess their masters and result in the deaths of those who troubled their masters.”

Sengo nodded, thinking hard on those words and doing his best to align their words with the faint collection of memories he had.

“These are only my thoughts. I don’t want them to influence you in any way.” Tonbokiri re-entered at that moment carrying a parcel in his hands. “Sengo Muramasa, the time has arrived. Your orders are as follows: you are to go on a journey. During this journey you are to train fervently to understand yourself. Once you have done this you are to return and report your findings to me.”

They waved Tonbokiri over. He set the parcel down between them and untied it, allowing the master to lay out the items within.

“I have prepared travel clothing, paper, and ink for you to give us updates as you train. I want you to decide on a time period to train in and be ready to leave in three days. Konnosuke, I, and the entire citadel are available to assist you with anything you need.”

Sengo stared at the items, looked to Tonbokiri’s gently smiling face, then to the Saniwa. He bowed his head to the ground in obedience. “Yes, master.”

Hey dear~ so even though I can’t relate to this s/o at all because once I’m in a relationship I become like the most cuddly and affectionate koala bear this is still a very cute request and I’m sorry for taking so long. Too much cr*p happened lately so I just haven’t been in the mood for writing and I really don’t want to write something just half-baked but i also feel bad for letting this sit untouched in my drafts for weeks, therefore this got a little short. holding back would be especially hard for Captain McFlirty because he’s in love with you, so being the touchy-feely man he is, of course he wants to shower you with affection and cuddles

so after both of you just got together he would often sneak up on you and casually put an arm around your hip or even sweep you up in his arms only to have you squeal and squirm around and nearly faint why are you doing this to my poor heart?

he loves to do this, partly because he likes to show off his strength but mostly because he finds the adorable way you always gasp and become bright red very endearing

he tries to act spirited for your sake and will try to push back his feelings and hesitates to touch you further but at the same time he was wondering if he had done something to upset you

this goes on for a while until you finally catch up on his strange behaviour

when you point it out and ask him why he seemed to be avoiding you poor boy will stay there awkwardly before admitting to his worries

after you explain to him that you actually want to be a lot closer to him but you’re just not used to affection his heart will burst with love

before he even knew what he was doing he had already cupped your cheeks in his hands and pulled you into a ravenous kiss

Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu Episode 6 *Spoilers*

Okay, I know you all are excited to seeing the cameo with our beloved TouDan’s, and a great part of you are like “OMG, Mikazuki” or “Geez, Izuminokami is too hot” and sh*t like that. I was excited too, BUT I want to foucus in more important things.

Firts of all, I want to do an analysis of the whole episode step by step.

If my memory still works, we never got to see the process of repairing in Hanamaru and to be honest I think this was way too cool, It seems to be quite easy but so damn hard at the same time. Now I’m more curious of how does it works.

Okay, this is way too much technology for me, but it still being cool.I know that most of you guys don’t really like Katsugeki’s Horikawa but I love him better that Hanamaru’s Horikawa although I love Hanamar’s too, okay, let’s just say that I love Horikawa in general, so I’ll be willing to foucus on him a little more than the others. Here we are reminded that he’s still being a newbie, so he is nervious while the Kuda-gitsune’s do their job. Tsurumaru and Mutsunokami seems to be too used of this revisions that they rather foucus on Kunihiro sorry, I really like calling him Kunihiro instead of Horikawa whoms is obviously worried as hell. I really enjoyed to see Tsurumaru talking to kunihiro as the knew each other already. Now, when he mentions thet he knows that Kunihiro was kane-san’s partner I was hoping him or even Mutsunokami to tell that Kane-san has been talking about Kunihiro and waiting for him to come it obviously it did not turn to be that way and it was a little bit disappointing for both of us, Kunihiro and me. Anyway I think it was really thoughtful of Mutsunokami anf Tsurumaru to take the time to explain Kunihiro the way things worked after they get back to the citadel

Then here we have Yagen, altought he wasn´t really talking with the group he was still with them, this means they started to get attached to each other, rigth?

Now we get to the part that everyones talks about sorry, as an asexual I don’t quite understand why everyone is so excited about it yet again, we can see that Kane-san is not thinking obut himself, the first thing he said after his awake was an apology and then asked for Tonbokiri. It’s obviously that he isn´t so refielved about knowing that history hasn’t changed.

Then we have this guy, I know you’ll want to kill me after saying this but I don’t really like him. Yes, I also know that you guys really love jiji, but since last episode I’ve got this feeling that he’s up to something and the fact that he asked the Saniwa if there were any plans of changing the 2nd unit... well I have my suspicions...

Now, when the other finally can meet up with Kane-san.. it was quite heartbraking. He seems to act normal but Mutsunokami and Kunihiro know best. I’ve startet to realize that Kunihiro talks without really thinking about it, so he ask Kane-san if he feels gulty althought it’s obvious that he won’t admit it. Mutsunokami in the other hand... well his eyes say everything

Now, this part really made me laugh... There´s a lot of kuda-guitsune’s, I thought that they migth be arguing about something really important, and their talk ended to be about deep fried tofu...

In the other hand, we can now see that Konnosuke has get attached to the second unit too. Just look at his expression, he really thinks that his guys are way better than the first unit.

Then, back to Kunihiro I’ll never get used of him how long has he been like this, just staring at his food without eating? It was uplifting to see Tsurumaru taking care of him in a very subtle way. I’d dare to say that everyone has forgotten it was Kunihiro’s first mission but Tsurumaru and Kane-san, no one has stopped to ask Kunihiro how he felt about the job but Tsurumaru seems to really wanting Kunihiro to express himself and his worries, it’s nice to see this side of Tsurumaru. Kunihiro seems to be like an open book, and, when he’s given the chance, stops looking after others and let all his worries out. He seems to be really hurt by the fact that Kane-san doesn’t want his help or even having him around I think I’ve already said this on someother post, but I Think about them as brothes so, please don’t get wrong my words

And again, the eyes say everything

C’mon guys, just figth and get over it.

Well, not literally, but why Kane-san can´t just talk with his team about how his feeling so they all can get over it together? If he keeps this attitude it’s going to be troublesome.

Why is Yagen alone? I thoght that the tantous and Ichi-nii would be with him. Anyway, Honebami did bring him food and a really weird question. It might be an inocent question but, again, I have my suspicions.

I almost  forget to mention the way Yagen talks to Honebami about the 2nd unit. It was so... I don’t even have words. If you guys remember the 2nd episode you would know that Yagen seemed to be refusing to talk with the others, I’d say that he didn´t even wanted to befiend them, but now... he really trust them, he knows now that he can rely on them, and that makes my heart melt

Kunihiro apologizing for not being strong enough, yeah, I was expecting this too tbh. What I wasn’t expecting was Tonbokiri apologizing for the same reason.

Kane-san went to see jiji. That was a surprise, that obviously means that everyone thinks jiji knows best. But I still don’t like him

Am I the only one who thinks that Kane-san looks younger here? for the first time since ever we see him loosing the control of his emotions. It’s the first time that we see him allowing himself to express that he feels lost and helpless, at least with his facial expression, which speaks louder than his words. I believe that making him look younger was the right thing.

I always tell my friends that Kane-san ressembles an older version of Kunihiro (physically talking) and now, watching him like this, with all these emotions going trough him, he really looks younger, I can really see Kunihiro on his face, I can see Kunihiro in his eyes

So he is the new member of the first unit. I knew it wasn’t just an innocent question

Archery Club!AU (Touken Ranbu Headcanon)

Ho boi, this is my first headcanon in here, I’m a little bit nervous. But this has been bugging me so... okay, let’s just give it a go.

Featuring Okitagumi because these boys are just too precious. Also, featuring Saniwa (a.k.a. you), and the boys are crushing on you.

Kashuu Kiyomitsu - let’s just say that instead of joining kendo club, he joins archery instead. - although his nails were messed up because of the practices (and he’s not thrilled about it), he somehow got a knack on it?? - and soon, he became the representative of the Citadel Gakuen in an upcoming national archery competition - well, he actually joined the archery club just because he’s curious, but huh. okay - he likes attention, and there will be tons of TVs and medias in the stadium - he can brag to Yasu about his increased popularity if he wins the competition - so yeah, instead of lazing around watching lame soap operas on the weekend, he goes to the competition - like every other competitors, he felt a little bit nervous - he’s too lost in his thoughts that he didn’t realize he bumped into someone - “ah sorry, are you-?” - “oh no, I’m sorry!! I dropped my coke on your shoes!!” - oh wow - you’re so pretty?? - like how come?? - you’re even prettier than him - he just stared at you dumbfounded - it took few secs for him to actually snap out of his thoughts - “ahh what should I do? now your shoes were ruined...” - “no no, don’t sweat it...” - but you insisted that it’s your fault, and shoved a handkerchief to him - “I’m so sorry, oh my god, please use this. you don’t have to give it back.” - when you offered him an apologetic smile, his heart definitely didn’t skip a beat there - you have the prettiest smile he’s ever seen??? - nope he’s not in love, oh no of course not - turns out that you’re another competitor in the ladies’ bracket - wow, a beauty who could do archery - baby you just shot an arrow straight through his heart please spare him - he must find out your name - Kashuu didn’t win the competition in the end, but he thinks that exchanging emails with you is more worth it than winning gold

Yasusada - Izuminokami and Kiyomitsu won’t stop talking about archery nowadays - like, it’s not even related to kendo?? - ‘please let me practice my kendo and worshipping okita-kun in silence’ - he’s just jealous because the archery club in Citadel Gakuen is way more popular than kendo - this kid is that pathetic please forgive him - one day Kiyomitsu just dragged Yasu over to the archery club because his girl bff’s had been insisting Kiyomitsu to come over - “we should practice kendo, not looking at girls playing with bows” - ofc Kiyomitsu didn’t listen - poor Yasu had to sit down and watch the ladies practicing - he’s in a baaaad mood - “there Yasu! did you see that? isn’t it cool? she’s the ace of the club!” - oh shush Kiyomistu, let me suffer in silence - but the nail-polish-wearing guy forced Yasu to look at the direction he pointed, and he just froze - the first thing that crossed his mind when he saw you was how cool you looked - you just looked like the cupids in some random full-of-myth book he borrowed from Nikkari - CRITICAL ATTACK TO HIS HEART - like how come you can hit every single target without breaking a sweat?? - marvelous - it looks like you’re Kiyomitsu’s friend who invited him to go visit the club - Yasu’s a little bit jealous of Kiyomitsu because he had this friend who’s really beautiful after all this time - wait what - no no no - but when you tried to attempt a small talk with him, he just stopped functioning - oh my god your voice sounds like an angel - please have mercy on him, you made him melt into a blubbering mess of blushing cutie ball - since that day, he’s got this obvious huge crush on you - it’s so transparent to other kendo club members, because he keeps talking about you endlessly - poor okita-kun has been replaced with you - jk Yasu’s love to okita-kun won’t diminish - it took another month for him to finally ask you out, and when you say yes, he had this brightest smile for the whole day - “oh wow, you look cute when you smile like that” - please stop complimenting him, this child has gone overheated

The little saniwa had just finish all of the work a saniwa was suppose to do for the day. She send some of the touken danshi out on missions to fight and look for resources. And the ones who were left here had to do chores around here or even had time to relax a little. She even got a charm made to have another sword to appear. But it looks like her Secretary sword wasn’t back yet to let her know if it work or not. She was bored of waiting in her room, so she looks outside window. And to her surprises, it was snowing! Her frown soon turn into a smile. It was one of Fuyuka’s favorite weather this time of year. But no one was around to take her outside and the Secretary wasn’t back yet. No, she was going outside without anyone. She thought the snow might melt away before they would come back with the reports. And she was just going out to the court yard. 

“Let’s go play, Momo!” The tiny saniwa said to her stuff ladybug and opens her closet room door. She started to pull almost everything out of the closet till she found what she was looking for. Her pink coat and black snow boots. She almost felt bad for making a mess since Hasebe clean this room last week, but right now all she cared about was playing in the snow. Once she had her things on and her snowflake hair clip was in place, she left her room and walks out to the court yard. Snowflakes were softly falling on the ground. The whole area was cover in a blanket made of snow. Fuyuka started to giggle at the sight and look at her ‘friend’ saying, “How about we go make a snowman? You make the middle part and I’ll make the body!” She then started to skip towards were the big old cherry blossom tree was.

because not only does he just decide to take Yasusada under his wings despite him raising a hue and cry, he also forces him to recite cheesy pick up lines whenever both of you are finally ‘alone’ 

and by alone i mean you and him relaxing with tea and snacks Yasu has lovingly prepared for you while Kane-san is peeking out behind the corner and glaring daggers and cute baby boy Horikawa mouthing ‘Ganbatte Yasusada-san’ at him

cue Yasu banging his head on the wall everytime afterwards because on the one hand he’s relieved at how adorable and oblivious you are for not getting these admittedly horrible pick-up lines but on the other hand why can’t you see that he’s trying to tell you his feelings??

he’s honestly so close to grabbing you by your shoulders and shaking you like a rag doll because HOW IN THE WORLD can you be so goddamn oblivious?

his frustation with you, Kanesada, but mostly himself can be seen and heard from space

i mean every cell in his body is in love with you how can you not remark it??

but every time you grace him with that innocent yet dazzling smile of yours all his misgivings and frustations just melt away like ice cream on a hot summer day

his eyebrows start wiggling when he finds you sleeping in front of your room

ponders whether he should jump out on you or draw on your face but you were always so firm with keeping him and the others away from your room at night

which only made him more curious on what you were trying to hide from him

on a closer look he suddenly remarks that your body is shaking and tears are spilling from your closed eyes

that was definitely another surprise, but surely not the kind he wished for

he didn’t even know that humans could cry during sleep and it honestly breaks his heart a little at seeing you in this pitiful state

??? was that his name coming from your sleeping form ???

‘Tsurumaru.. please..don’t let me go’

yep, ok that was definitely his name spilling from your heavenly lips

and you’re wanting to be held by him? sure both of you had been playfully flirting for some time now but never would he have thought that there was any deeper meaning to it

at least not from your side

he tries to keep his cool, he really does, but his heart rate just skyrockets to unhealthy altitudes

carefully sweeps you up in his arms without waking you and carries you back to your room

lays down next to you and peppers your face with little butterfly kisses, even licking up the salty tears off your cheeks until you scrunch up and open your eyes, only to be greeted with the sight of Tsurumaru licking your nose

reluctantly agrees to stay with you although he is screaming and dying inside

very stiff at first but eases into it fairly quickly and falls asleep with you since he realizes this is the ultimate proof of still being loved by you

Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu ep.12 *spoilers*

So, ep12 is out now and I’m here to defend my son again but, before I start to explain my thoughts on Kunihiro, let’s make a summary of the episode first (or I’ll just make an explaination of what I understood of the episode while defending my son).

I KNEW IT!! I knew Kane-san (yeah, I kind of forgave him already) would never kill or even hurt his brother, Kunihiro is just as importan on his life as he is on the wakizashi’s. He is mad because of this, he is mad for not being able to do his “job” as captain, but this is not the Shinsengumi, Kunihiro isn’t one of Hijikata’s subordinates and Izuminokami is not Hijikata. It doesn’t matter how bad things are, it doesn’t matter that Kunihiro calls himself a defector, to him, to Izuminokami Kanesada  that boy, the person he sees as his own brother,  is one of the most important person on his life. He lost Kunihiro once, and I think he couldn’t tolerate the idea of loosing him again, this time definetely.

And Kunihiro... my boy just gives this sad look. I don’t know how to explain it but, if he really wanted to do all of this for his own good, if he was upset with Saniwa for asking them to make sure Hijikata dies, if he was up to make history change... he wouldn’t have done this expression. As i said last week, maybe he was just ready to die, maybe he thought that should be his punishment for not staying up to the mission and the expectations Kane-san had on him.

He was devastated inside, yet, when the girl woke up, he gave her his best smile and help her to look for her mother. Was he acting? No. That was just him being him. I think this was a very subtle way in which  Ufotable reminds us of his kind and selfless nature, to remind us of his abnegation, which is quite useful latter on the episode.

Kane-san seems to be devastated on his own way, we had seen him like this before on ep6 and ep 8, but this time he’s deeper on his thoughts, he is concerned about Kunihiro for sure, but... there has to be something  more.

He doesn’t react to anything, not even to the threat of the Retrograde army coming. He only kind of changes his attitude when realizes is Saniwa who is standing infront of them.

And when Saniwa ask him if he knows why he is there, Kane-san replies with another quiestion “to punish me?”, then I realized that there really was more hidden under his thoughtful apparience. Just as Kunihiro, he felt like he needed to be punished, but why? as he said himself, he didn’t do anything wrong, BUT, that’s not quite true. He didn’t do nothing wrong about the mission, but he sureley failed as a partner, he failed to Kunihiro as a brother, as he and Saniwa (Haku, as I like to call him thanks to this post https://goo.gl/hSVjA4) talk we hear everything we already knew: Kase-san wanted to save Hijikata as much as Kunihiro, but he just tried to keep all those useless feelings inside of him and ignore them, and he wanted Kunihiro to do the same, and that was his mistake. kinihiro is a softer and more sensitive person than Kane-san, Kunihiro is the kind of person who needs to talk about his feelings, to let them all go out of him so he can move on. 

Then, other thing we all knew, Kunihiro KNOWS what Kane-san thinks, he knows how his partner feels, and tries to to everything he can to make him feel better, to make sure Kane-san doesn’t suffer, even if it is Kunihiro himself who is suffering the most, because he just love Kanesada that much (brotherly or romantically, take it however you want), the fact here is that Kunihiro loves Kane-san until the point of putting himself, his own life in risk and everyone (even Saniwa) knows it, every one but Kane-san.

I’m not sure if Saniwa is just a very positive person, too innocent or too naive, maybe all of them, but, wanting to save it all... even if he warned Kane-san about what would happen if Kunihiro does something stupid (which I really doubt) he, and everyone, seems to understand what the wakizashi is going through, and he want to go back home with his swords, all of them including Kunihiro. Honestly, to see Saniwa adopting this attitude made me really happy ‘cause, since ep 10, my biggest fear was to see Saniwa mad at Kunihiro, I was afraid of Saniwa getting rid of Kunihiro and sending him back to the sea. But he doesn’t seem to be mad at all, and I can get that he really loves his swords until the point he goes and takes them with him to Hakodate to fulfill Kane-san's wish (and I’m pretty sure he also did this so they can find Kunihiro)   , and that makes my hear melt. (yes, I’m adopting Saniwa/Haku as my second son)’

Can we talk about how great this part is? I always had this headcanon on where Saniwa tries to stay and figth with his swords all along the way and that’s exactly what I got (thanks god). And then 1st unit arrives, I have to admit I was hoping to see Honebami again, but any way... that was pretty good, althought I’m not sure if anyone else at the Citadel knows about Kunihiro, and I wonder what Yamanbagiri would think about his brother after this.

Another proof of Saniwa’s love for his swords. He is struggling, his body can’t take it anymore, he needs to come back to the citadel, yet he stays as much as is possible. 

He seems to ve relatively calm while saying the retrograde army would arrive with 1000 swords, but I bet all my money that as soon as he got to the citadel, went and looked for a way to send more than just 6 swords at the same time to a battle, so yeah, I believe 1st and 2nd unit will fight  together next episode (yes, the 12 of them)

the unspoken here was:  and bring him back too. Or at least I was begin for Mutsu to say that

On facebook, I saw someone shared this pic. with the description “run like Naruto, Kane-san, and you’ll get far.” (it was funny to me, sorry, i had to share it).

Then my first son appears again. I’ve seen some post where people say “What about Tetsu? Where’s Tetsu? Horikawa, what did you do to Tetsu?”

I mean, really? 

Yes, Saniwa, Mutsu and Kane-san went to Hakodate in matter of seconds, but to Kunihiro it had been 3 years, he obviously joined the Shinsengumi, but that doesn’t meen he did something to Tetsu. 3 years, guys, he spent 3 years of his life near to Hijikata, they might grew closer enough to Hijikata trust him better that Tetsu.

Is that a problem? yes and no. History says Hijikata had a 16 years old boy as his assistant, Kunihiro can fairly fit on the description, so it won’t be a great change, still, this is bad cause we don’t know how it will affect the fact that Tetsu is left aside, he would want revenge or something like that. But, certainly, I’m not worried of Kunihiro at all.

I’m not worried of him cause I know my boy, I know he wouldn’t do any thing stupid cause he doesn’t want to disappoint Kane-san again. As he and kane-san, he wants and will protect history the way Kane-san wants, and that doesn’t include killing or even slightly hurt any one whose innocent (and that includes Tetsu). Even on his worst moments,Kunihiro never tried to hurt anyone, he didn’t try to do anything agaist Ryoma (even if that could help Hijikata to keep on living) cause he knew that was wrong, not only cause that would change the history, but because Ryoma was a living person. Killing, hurting people (not only the inocents, but people in general) isn’t Kunihiro’s nature. And here is where the part of the girl takes relevance. As i see it, that scene at the begining of the episode was to remind us of Kunihiro’s personality.

Now, why he stayed whit Hijikata all those years? As I see ot, he might had stayed true to his wish to make Hijikata change his mind, BUT,I bet he couldn’t so he decided to take the role of Tetsu and, at least, try to convence Hijikata to take both of his swords with him, cause he knows how much Kane-san wanted to be on that fight. Which reminds me of him asking Kane-san to go with him. Last week I said he might not actually be expecting Kane-san with him, but after this episode I think he DID wanted Kane-san to go, not to help him to change history, but to be close to Hijikata again, to have the chance to fight on his side one more time. If they had to protect the course of history and let Hijikata die, at least they would be with him.
