Kwon Sangpil,
The dedicated meat shop owner, is known for his loyalty, good behavior, and talkative nature. Always taking care of himself, he was best friends with Hooyeong in high school and stepped up to care for Hongju and Hyeji after Hooyeong suddenly left for the US. Sangpil was also the first to discover something happened between Hooyeong and Hongju.

so i mentioned other drama that has similar aspects with FoE, but really, I think the drama that is closest to FoE is Avicii (2016), a short drama (only 1 ep of 1 hour and 13 minutes) which is written by the writer of FoE and it’s available in youtube.
Tumblr media
Basically, the main character, a mom and her son, is like Baek mom-son in alternate universe lol. The son that has a cold, unemotional, ruthless personality. The mom that unwittingly raised her son to be that way. The mom got blackmailed (though she’s almost raped in Avicii) and killed the blackmailer. She got shaken and turned quite unstable, ridden with guilt (there’s a dash of Do Haesoo in her too. Haesoo even repeated what the mom here did on the ending of the drama). The son’s unwavering loyalty to his mom. Personally I find the characters in Avicii made more sense than their counterpart in Baek family. Admittedly FoE scenes are prettier than Avicii, but the story makes it a worthy watch.
*(Avicii: the lowest level of Buddhist hell)

My Korean study resources [2020 Q1]
People were asking me what I’m using right now to self-study seeing as I’ve stopped taking lessons. I have to admit - its really really difficult to keep motivated actually but switching up resources keeps things fresh so I can continue being happy like my kid Felix [KEEP READING]
Tumblr media
Book
Some of you know that I moved from London to the Philippines this year and couldn’t take much of my stuff with me so I ditched all my books in my house and I’m only working off one book right now
Intermediate Korean: A Grammar and Workbook by Andrew Sangpil Byon [LINK HERE]
Online learning resources
Talk To Me In Korean (TTMIK) Basic courses - working through from beginning to end to revise my grammar - I just finished Level 1 - even though their level test says I’m Level 6, there was still stuff I didn’t know in Level 1 LMAO
TTMIK videos - whenever I’m looking for an explanation, they usually have it on YouTube. They also just released a channel that’s 100% in Korean [LINK HERE]
TTMIK Friday lessons - they do a free live lesson on a Friday at 12PM KST on Instagram live and YouTube live - I could never watch it in England, but I’m in the right time zone now
Quizlet - I’m studying the study sets for TOPIK I and TOPIK II to increase my vocabulary - I do 5 minutes of learning a day and then try to make sentences from the words I don’t know. [Links here: TOPIK I, TOPIK II - there are actually a lot of sets here so go look - also trust your instinct, some words might be spelled wrong]
[I stopped using Nuri Sejong - King Sejong Institute website and switched to TTMIK, because the Sejong interface is so clunky I can’t navigate it very well so it was stressing me out more]
Chat and study group
HelloTalk - this is the only chat app I use because I’m scared of other apps. It’s pretty good - I like how you can correct people’s posts constructively and they can correct you in return - people are really helpful. There is also a voice and video call function. I’ve also made a lifelong friend on there who I met up with in Korea last month :)
Reading and translation
NAVER webtoons - easy vocabulary - interesting stories
Beelinguapp - I’m reading children’s books on here in Korean - it’s still really difficult.....
Newspaper and magazine articles - whenever I see a Korean newspaper I will pick it up, cut an interesting article out and stick it in my book (lol my book is full of NCT and EXO clippings) then do a translation, listing my new vocab and grammar on the side for revision later
Listening and watching
KDRAMA - enough said. I try to actually use my ears these days and write down words I catch or useful phrases. Sometimes I switch from English subs to Korean subs to get the spelling before switching back
Variety shows - by now you probably know that I’m a KPop stan, so I watch a lot of variety shows - for the past few years I’ve been watching them with a notebook in hand and write down words and phrases - it takes me 4 times as long to get through a clip/episode but I’ve learned so many natural AND useful phrases. This is probably my best resource
TTMIK Listening practice using Real Life Conversations listening files and IYAGI (you can find these on Google Podcasts)
Additional resources I want eventually:
Your First Hanja Guide - TTMIK [LINK HERE] - I know, I know... you don’t need Hanja really... but, whenever I study with my friend who speaks Mandarin and Cantonese, he groups similar words based on the root Chinese character and I’m always like THIS MAKES SO MUCH SENSE
News in Korean - TTMIK [LINK HERE] - to improve my reading
OKAY I’m not a TTMIK fangirl or anything - what happened was I rejected TTMIK for years because I was using Sogang books and I didn’t want to get confused and I didn’t know if TTMIK was any good back then. Now I realise that Hyunwoo and the gang actually explain stuff REALLY well and their resources are top quality and easy to understand, so in the past year I’ve had a transformation and have moved my learning to TTMIK curriculum. I’m still not a premium member yet, but maybe some day.... anyway I own a load of their books.

Useful Workshop's Curvature furniture is made from pressed sheet metal
https://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2020/02/curvature-furniture-useful-workshop-stockholm-furniture-light-fair_dezeen_sq-852x852.jpg
Seoul design studio Useful Workshop has created a furniture series made from sheets of aluminium that are bent to form curves using industrial machinery.
Useful Workshop is headed by designer Sukjin Moon, who worked with a factory in Incheon, South Korea, to realise the Curvature Series using its metal-pressing machines.
The furniture was developed from a prototyping process in which the studio modelled forms by folding paper. Moon realised the shapes created using this method could be scaled up and replicated in aluminium sheets.
“The curvature series is a result of the paper folding practice,” Moon explained. “We discovered a certain aesthetic in a raw stage of the industrial design process and tried to bring it out as it is.”
“After the decision to use the metal-folding process, each curvature, radius and surface was practiced continuously considering the manufacturer’s tooling environment and available tooling conditions.”
The furniture is made by bending flat pieces of aluminium using a press brake machine. These machines typically use a matching punch and die to press sheet metal into the desired shape.
Moon spoke with the factory’s technicians to understand the tolerances of the metal and the machines, before developing furniture with simple curved profiles that can be created by bending the material in even increments.
“Each design has a different curvature and different angles but they all have reasons why,” the designer told Dezeen, “either because of the limitations of the manufacturing or the machine’s size. This means I can’t make very complicated curves.”
The first piece to be developed was the Curvature Shelf. This unit features J-shaped folded components that form supports for shelves made from solid maple wood.
The hollow form of the shelf supports means they can be used to hide cabling or other items. The modular system can also be easily expanded by adding more components.
The same bending technique was used to create a long bench with a slightly raised section at the rear of the seat. Three pieces of solid wood are inserted between the top and bottom surfaces to maintain the bench’s structure when sat upon.
The Curvature Tea Table features a flat upper surface that curves smoothly to form supports at either end. Only upon closer inspection do the ridges of the pressed surfaces become evident.
The final piece in the Curvature Series is the chair, which Moon claimed was also the most complicated. The form went through several iterations to identify the optimal proportions and curvature for the seat.
The chair features simple aluminium legs that support the seat. Moon added that the choice of aluminium was made for environmental reasons, as the material is 100 per cent recyclable.
The furniture was exhibited at the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair as part of the Greenhouse section for up-and-coming designers.
Sukjin Moon graduated from the MA Design Products programme at the Royal College of Art in London in 2012. His practice works across multiple disciplines, with a consistent focus on creative research and practical prototyping.
