the only reason i didn't grow up with the only child™️ mentality despite being one was bc my dad had a habit of taking anyone who liked mechanics under his wing at the garage and into our house so i had a constantly rotating cast of older brothers
#literally he would be teaching someone how to take apart an engine block#and by the next month that same guy would be eating dinner with us and sleeping on the couch#my favorites were josh and steve bc they'd watch cartoons with me and give me rides to friends houses or school if i missed the bus :)#michael and mason are up there too for making that bike ramp in the driveway and teaching me tony hawk pro skater

"marn i missed sgdq 2024 what should i watch"
hi i decided i'm doing another one of these. it's been a minute. this past week was summer games done quick, an annual speedrunning marathon raising money for doctors without borders and also a great way to get into watching speedrunning. a lot of their content is tailored towards being both clearly explained and fun to watch for an audience outside the speedrun community, so you can jump in with basically no knowledge besides “this person is gonna play a game really fast”.
gdq has the full week's worth of vods up as a playlist on their channel, but here are some runs that i personally think you should check out:
ken griffy jr presents mlb by peanut butter the dog: look it's a dog playing baseball. i don't know what else to tell you.
the entire silly block: speedrunners get up way too early in the morning/late at night to play games that feel like a fever dream. some of the commentators are going on 24 hours of no sleep. it's brilliant. my personal highlights of what i've seen so far are stuart little 2, mad panic coaster, city bus simulator race, and the golf it wrong hole only race that the players dressed up as golfers for
alan wake 2 alan%: alan wake clips through walls and generally has a bad time while a bunch of gamers call him a sopping wet catboy. the runner for this one is really charismatic and it's very funny to see staff rushing to open up the pit as soon as we sing starts (yes they do the dance of course they do the dance). i just love joyful runs of horror games man
super mario 64 blindfolded randomizer: what if you played mario 64 blindfolded and also the stars were in completely random locations. and also you had to do it very very fast.
kingdom hearts 2 critical any%: every kh2 speedrun i've ever seen is a work of art and this one is no different. some of the boss fights go down so fast you will literally miss them if you look away for a minute. and also two of my favorite runners are on couch commentary!
balatro showcase: genuinely made me rethink how i'm playing some of the balatro decks. also great commentary and just fun all around despite (or perhaps partially because of) the absolute struggle session going on with plasma deck in the beginning
super mario world kaizo relay: kaizo is a shorthand term for a game hacked to its absolute limits of difficulty that often requires strict precision of movement and can punish the player for thinking they're smarter than it. in this segment, two teams of 4 very very good mario runners race to complete 8 kaizo levels they've never seen before in their lives
mario maker 2 troll level race: i always like the mario maker races for the same reason i like the kaizo relays. i love watching two speedrunners thrown blindly into the shit have to make up strategies on the fly via trial and error (and error, and error, and error, and...)
kirby air ride race: two high level kirby air ride speedrunners race for an actual physical title belt. the trash talk game happening here is of the insane variety that only two very skilled people who truly respect each others' talents at their game of choice can provide
kaizo mario galaxy: what if mario galaxy hated you even more than usual and would stop at nothing to kill you. also most of the commentators are only familiar with the vanilla game and their reactions to the added-in bullshit are hysterical
tony hawk pro skater 1, 2, 3, and 4: i fell asleep watching this and woke up in a cold sweat to the sound of a bunch of people singing superman by goldfinger. good run
super mario rpg remake: this was the finale block and it's just great to see a bunch of people who really really love the original mario rpg get to hang out and talk about how good it is and also watch a world record level player absolutely stunt on the game
halo 3 four-player co-op legendary: dudes rock

More Sonic Dream Team impressions and details on new character Ariem
Polygon is the latest to demo the upcoming mobile game, Sonic Dream Team, ahead of its December debut on Apple Arcade.
Impressions appear to follow the same trend as DigitalTrends, which described skate park-inspired levels inspired by Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
News and notes:
Ariem, an anthropomorphic sheep, was created by artist Yuji Uekawa as the Reverie's guardian; and to help Sonic and co. understand it. Name is a play on REM sleep.
Levels inspired by skate parks; brightly colored distillations of Doctor Eggman’s dreams, filtered through the viewpoint of Cream the Rabbit.
Names of the mentioned dream worlds: Scrambled Shores and Dream Factory.
Players can switch between any unlocked character mid-run. Caveat: they have to be motionless while doing so.
Not combat-focused. Enemies designed to help players maintain momentum.
Overarching story in Dream Team told through voiced in-game cutscenes.

Pikmin! (Spencer Agnew x Gn!Reader)
A video game themed bar was exactly what you needed, maybe even a little more...
Smosh Masterlist
Requested: Sort of... 'reader meets him at a bar and than they go home together and have a fun nerdy time at his place' -anon
A/N: Sorry anon they don't make it home, also hope you like video games, I thought it was a safe bet for a Spencer fan, Hope you enjoy.
Warnings: Mentions of fighting (mortal combat game play, smash bros)
W.C: ~2.1k
You'd been eager to try this place since your 'for you' page had all but taunted you with it while you were sick in bed with the flu. So crossing the threshold, the outlook of a dive type bar decked out in gaming memorabilia was both overwhelming and exactly what the doctor ordered.
LEDs behind the bar were mesmerising as they throbbed and changed, it was only after you'd straddled a stool that your eyes floated up past the assortment of alcohol, to the large collection of consoles and plug-ins suspended above.
Eagerly seeking out your favourites, you simply nodded when an approaching figure inquired after the stool to your left. Snaking your gaze down the shelving, your stare fell low enough to catch the figure of the bartender on the other side of the bar. The older woman was watching you with an amused smirk, clearly your enraptured state was not a rare one among first time visitors. Casting a glance to her headwear, you noted the Mrs Pacman sitting on her headband as you considered your drink order. Opting for a familiar brand you retrieved your phone from your pocket to pay, the case making it difficult as usual, as the bartender produced a bottle and left with a smile.
As you sipped your beverage you let your focus flit around the bar, There were a few larger screens with small groups of people crowding controllers and consoles, there were more displays and shelves chocked full of all sorts of gaming nostalgia and a few retrofitted old computers playing arcade gameplay.
Finding yourself watching more than a few rounds of mortal combat on an old box TV, your attention only shifted as a rather larger group of spectators erupted in cheers on the other side of the space. Noting some other set ups around the bar, ones much less crowded that that one, you stood from your chair, drink long since drank in many an unconscious sip as you'd watched the fights.
There was a couple duelling in some newer game you couldn't recognise, a group of older people screaming their encouragement alongside a woman playing pinball and lucky as ever, right at the back in a little alcove, there was an empty GameCube setup. Although a few other familiar titles lined the small area, the screen was already displaying your game of choice; Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3.
After frying your own console years before you'd been itching to get your hands on this game for a while. Yet as if it was only yesterday you found yourself navigating the menu with ease, selecting a map you felt you might recognise, the name sounding somewhat familiar, possibly one you'd sold your soul to over fifteen years before.
Admittedly, navigating the menu came easier than recollecting the controls, but after a few minutes you were finding your groove well enough to hit a couple special moves and terrorise a few pedestrians.
Concluding your first level you'd indulged in the character select menu, although finding the original Tony Hawk much too nostalgic, you continued on all the same.
Before continuing, you took a brief glance around your little station, cautious someone else might be wanting a go.
Satisfied by the empty space around your chair, and the empty one by your side, you continued on to the next location. Finding yourself revisiting some favourite tricks and areas from years before, you felt yourself relax into the game, it was only when as you sat back in the chair and the stats for the completed level popped up that you noted the presence of someone talking by your side.
'-still can't believe you stuck with Tony, Demoness all the way'
Turning towards the voice you caught sight of a man around your age, sipping some colourful concoction, as he shifted his gaze from the screen to you.
Although, you noted to yourself, the mess of curls adorning his head surely meant his sight was solidly obstructed, so how he managed to notice which character you'd chosen was a mystery.
He was nonchalant as he plopped into the chair by your side, and you felt yourself of similar affect as you responded,
'Well, I must admit my old favourite was the Eye Guy as I knew him, but its been so long i wanted that Vanilla playthrough effect ya know, nostalgia and all that.'
'Oh I'm very familiar. Do you mind if I have a go?'
Hand gripping the back of your chair you go to move,
'Of course I'll just-'
'You don't need to leave, I'll only probably play the one level, I was never the best at Pro Skater,' His words were said softly vet with a surety that left no room for argument,
'Are you able to hold this?' He seemed hesitant to ask as he continued scouring the space despite holding his drink out in your direction.
'Keep me here just to hold your drink did you?' your tone was light enough that despite the flush on his cheeks he still held it out when he saw you nodding.
You took it into your hands, holding the glass in your lap atop crossed legs as you watched him grasp the controller and navigate the menu just as you had done.
As he began to play you let your eyes drift from the menu to the assortment of games along the wall, spotting a couple of old favourites you made a note to try them if you got the chance later.
Returning your attention to the screen you sat in the relative silence of the little alcove, enjoying the small sounds and voice lines from the game you'd long forgotten the AI were capable of, until the man by your side spoke up.
'How do you do the... The double flip? I'm completely blanking' He looked momentarily back to you as his character drifted about the landscape,
'Oh its just the same button as flip, just twice,' your voice was soft, hoping not to come off as patronising with the simplicity of your answer.
'Oh yeah, simple eh?' He laughed it off easily as he turned back to the screen, watching him go on to try, and nail, the trick, you smiled to yourself.
Concluding a second level you'd urged him to play, he handed the controller back to you as you returned his drink.
'Did you want to play another level? I'm thinking of changing the game,' letting your mind drift once again to the cases along the wall, you considered your options.
'Nah I'm good, what're you thinking?'
'Ooh, im not sur- OH' You cut yourself off as a certain title caught your eye.
Tugging it free of its sleeve you held your choice aloft, being careful of the disk surface of course,
'Luigi's Mansion? Good choice...' his words although genuine came with a familiar hesitance.
'I know right I've-' Your excited reminiscence was cut short as he cut in,
'...Fair warning; their copy doesn't work'
'Oh damn...' you slid the disc back into its place
'Agreed, I felt exactly the same when I tried booting it up last week.' He watched your movements before scooting his chair back a bit and starting up again, 'They do have the third one on a switch over there,' he pointed his drink in the direction of the largest crowd in the room, the chalkboard wait list filled to the brim in progressively smaller and smaller writing desperate to be fit in. 'But you'll probably be waiting a while.'
Your lips sucked into a defeated line, you moved your gaze back onto the man by your side. His own focus set on the glass beneath him as he seemingly attempted to skewer the floating lime on his straw. You noted that just as you'd thought before, his hair had clouded the space between his eyes and the drink.
'Do you have any suggestion then? Any that work?' You pondered with a laugh as you flipped through the cases, the sound drew his attention back to you, not that you noticed as he remained silent, stare caught on the back of your head.
A few moments of silence later and upon finding nothing you turned back to him, a brow raised as you sat awaiting his response.
'Oh um, there's always Smash?'
Nodding slightly you put the controller on the tabletop and began to search for the disc, 'I never really played it, you'll have to show me how...' Unsure where the confidence came from for that request, you stalled slightly in taking the game out, and replacing the other with it before sitting back down.
Letting your peripherals catch what you refused to look directly at, you watched as he nodded, his lips pursed for few too many moments before parting with a soft utterance, 'uh-yeah of- of course'.
Holding your hand out for his drink you held out the controller with the other, and as you felt the weight of the glass in your hand you studied the screen as he began a match.
'So with this one you have all the regular moves, which use the regular buttons but, for example, Falco's Phantasm you need to use- '
His explanations were comprehensive and before long, you were playing and winning matches on your own, well mostly on your own. The man beside you seemed unable to stop himself from leaning closer and pointing out special attacks you could manage at any given time. By the time you'd won your second stage his shoulder was knocking your own, his face inches from yours.
Sitting back in your chair once again, all but pooped from the adrenaline rush of such a victory as your character filled the screen almost as happy with themself as you were, you felt the warmth of his closeness fade as he followed your lead, slumping in his own seat.
Your short reprieve was cut short however as a voice, much harsher than that of the man at your side, crackled from behind you,
'Sorry, Are y'all done with this console?'
Sharing a brief look with him you shrugged and glanced to the bar, a small nod was enough for you as you turned and addressed the newcomers, 'Yeah, we are. Go for it'
Stepping out of the alcove you moved no more than a metre, before turning back to check for him. Part of you expected him to leave for another spot in the bar, another console, but a bigger part of you was sure he wouldn't, at least not yet.
Sitting up on a stool you grabbed your phone to pay for a drink yet as you waited you addressed the man once again by your side.
'Well that was great fun! Little bit of nostalgia is good for the soul, ain't it?'
'Definitely. Although... Are you sure you haven't played Smash before?'
'Weeelllll... I admit I have played some of the newer ones at parties and such, but I really thought it'd be completely different on such an older console.'
Your cheeks were hot at the reveal, it wasn't as if you'd lied, but the suggestion you'd done so to get him to help you was an interesting one.
A small smile on his lips, he fixed you with a playful glare, the crinkling of his nose a dead giveaway. Never the less you played along, dropping your phone to the bar top and raising your hands in the air as if to profess your innocence.
'I promise. Next time though, I'll have to get your help on something else, something have no idea about, maybe Pikmin? I assure you I have absolutely no clue about that game.' Your face as stoic as you could manage, not very stoic at all, you watched as his smile splurged into a wide grin as his eyes looked between you and the phone discarded on the between you on the bench.
The device was hugged by a bright red silicone case with a telling red stem that ended in a single green leaf dangling off the top end.
You continued, 'What even is a Pikmin?' Getting the question past your lips without laughing between syllables was a struggle, but a worthy one as he soon broke into giggles at your sincerity.
'Well, you seem completely cluel-' He was interrupted as your phone rung out a hearty Pikmin!
'... Completely clueless... and that's okay, I'm happy to help.'
'You're too kind...' You trailed off realising you still didn't know his name.
'OH... I'm Spencer by the way,' Nodding, you failed to supress the smile that had spread across your lips as you spoke,
'Well, Spencer, I really need your help. So how about nex-'

Phone Dude headcanons !
His name is David Filip-Jones! (it's a flip phone pun i'm not funny) He's 24, and grew up in Sacramento.
I don't even NEED to say this, but he is such a stoner. He gets high after work pretty often (kinda like Jeremy).
He really likes older tech and has a hobby of fixing retro games. He owns a Walkman cause he thinks they look cool, and exclusively plays Tony Hawk Pro Skater. Probably owns multiple weird pinball games that he has in his garage.
Speaking of skaters, he loves skating, snowboarding, surfing, anything with a board. Not very good at it, though.
Knows everything there is to know about Freddy's, mainly from a true crime channel called "Theories With Matt". He originally had to, since his job at Fazbear Frights was to give a little comedy spiel before people went inside, but he actually got really into it.
He's non-binary! Sorta in the same way that I imagine Shaggy is non-binary, where if you ask him he'll just say "Like, all these genders are made up" and that's it. He goes by he/him but honestly he's fine with whatever.
Dresses like someone's weird uncle. Bermuda shorts, Hawaiian shirts, sandals, the whole outfit. He's got a mullet, though he dyes the edges pretty often, usually green.
#spreading my matpat true crime channel propaganda again sorry#and my nonbinary shaggy propaganda#brm.txt#fnaf#five nights at freddys#phone dude#headcanons

Time for some Psychonauts unpopular headcanon love. I love Psychonauts existing in the 2000s. According to extra info on social medias for the characters, the game was supposed to take place in 2001 (with Raz being born in 1991 according to his MySpace (which was later softretconned by the 10/15/1971 on Raz's ID card in the artbook but not the game)). I also really like video games in general, so I'm gonna go through some older games that I think the Junior Agents would like:
Raz is first introduced to games probably through Adam or Lizzie.
I could see Adam liking the idea of CDs that are game compilations. Especially with something like the Hoyle Board games.
Lizzie on the other hand, is more action heavy. Devil May Cry, GTA 3, Halo, Metal Gear Solid 2, Silent Hill 2. Games that Raz would NOT be allowed to watch, but Lizzie likes them all the same and helps Raz find some more kid friendly games. ESPECIALLY Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Gisu has access to Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 "but it's not as good as 2" in her words. She likes a lot more of the kid friendly games, like Jak and Daxter, Sonic Adventure 2, and some Final Fantasy games.
Norma doesn't really play any video games, but when she does it's usually against or with Adam playing his games.
Morris and Sam also never really got the video game craze, but Morris does donate his old top down Zelda games to Raz.

Situation:
You're at your friends house. You've been there for a few hours now. The experience getting here was a blur, you had already had a few drinks prior, and the journey here seemed dreamlike, almost... Magical. Like you'd just materialized there.
You've been up in his room playing video games and drinking some more for the past few hours, it's been a good time.
You realize an hour into Tony Hawks Pro Skater that you REALLY gotta take a piss- You ask your buddy where the bathroom's at, and he gives you a loooong explanation as to where it's at... You zone out halfway through this, but you assume you'll be able to make it there on your own, & head off regardless.
You get lost pretty quickly... You knew this place was big, but not *THIS* big.
You turn to go back and ask your friend for a refresher on directions, but you realize you're not where you thought you were at all. You don't know how to get back, either.
You scramble to make it back to the room, at least, but you seem to keep making the wrong turns. You have no clue where you are, you're dizzy, confused, and you still REALLY need to pee...
Suddenly, you feel a presence behind you. You turn, and there's a 7-8 foot multicolored MONSTER looming over you... Well, you don't need to use the restroom anymore. (😬)
This creature raises it's claws, & purple sparks fly from its palm. You start to shrink down, so tiny, a size comparable to that of an ant.
The monster delicately picks you up and walks you into one of the nearby rooms, you observe some kind of table with an opening at the top, almost resembling a terrarium. There seems to be what you can only describe as a miniature sun, floating over the top of this. The monster places you inside of this terrarium creation, and once you're placed inside, you realize that this world spans far beyond what you could see from the room. It's a whole world in and of itself.
You scream for help, not knowing if it will do any good. Is this a dream?
You're approached by a few people, who tell you that you'd been placed very close to a village of people who'd also been abducted & placed into this world. You learn what there is to know about your circumstances and the world you've now been placed in. You learn that this is all a cruel experiment, some people wander in, some people are selected & abducted. Horrible, life changing things happen here- A sick, twisted life simulator, fully controlled by the being that placed us here... After a while, you resign yourself to your fate. This is where you'll die. You don't know what will happen. Even if your friend finds you... Will he be placed in here, too?
After a few hours, you're plucked out by the same monster, and grown back to your original size. He apologizes for not knowing you were your friend's guest, and explains that you won't remember any of this by the time you leave... It's explained to you that your friend is currently residing in this beast's pocket dimension, with this beast as his guardian... That's where you've been this entire time, and you'd been placed in a separate universe within a pocket dimension... You realize, in horror, that you're the only one who's been allowed to leave- How many people who have gone missing succumbed to this same fate?...
As you and your friend walk back to his room, you start to forget what just happened... Based on context clues, you must have just gotten lost looking for the bathroom, and your friend came and found you...
You really gotta ask your friend for a pair of clean pants, yikes.

This probably won't come up much (if ever) but I've thought in WAY too much detail about what everyone else does for content online in the Art!Slave AU.
I've already explained in the story what Sonic and Silver do (famous streamer and popular fanartist respectively) but I thought it would be fun to share what others in their group do as well. (Under the cut)
Tails- Miles-A-Minute - does minute long tech/programming tip videos on Sonic's channel and is Sonic's editor. (Hour long Tech streams are called Miles-An-Hour)
Jet - JetXstreams- plays racing games and is an offical Tony Hawk pro skater record holder (nobody remembers exactly for what though) Exclusively does streams and vods. (He pays Tails to put the vods together. Tails begrudingly agrees, but he finds his requests over the top and annoying.)
Tangle- Ringtrails88- competitive Mario Kart and Pokemon gamer primarily, but branches out into other non-racing games with friends. Tangle and Sonic did a Nuzlocke once and she's a new addition to their circle.
Shadow-WrathWraith - video essays on old horror movies and horror games. Has a rantsona that is just a black cat. (has done a full Resident Evil let's play of the entire series. never streams, hates it. Only shows up on Sonic's streams for horror or group games.) Used to share a channel with Sonic until they went seperate ways.
Amy - BlackRoseBeauty - Primarily V-Tuber, but fans have seen what she looks like irl as well. Tells true crime cases, does Tarot readings, and ghost stories. (Amy and Shadow collab because they both dabble in thriller/horror content)
Knuckles- ??? - He's Sonic and Tails' roommate. Will often be in the background chilling during livestreams because Sonic's main setup is in their living room. Became a fan favorite and he has no idea why. Only plays games casually but likes going to cons when Sonic gets invited.
(Tails, Knuckles, Silver, Shadow and Sonic live in the same area (roughly in or around Station Square) Amy lives in Central City a little further away. Tangle is from Mazuri, another continent entirely. Jet moves around a lot and is currently in Spagonia.)
That's all I have so far! Other characters that I havent listed may or may not show up in the story. If they do ill update the list!

Name: Jude Grigsby Occupation: Moonlight Skate Attendant / Aspiring Twitch Streamer Age: 29 Sexuality: Pansexual Species: Werewolf Clan/Pack/Coven?: Cerberus Hometown: Port Leiry, OR Relationship Status: Single Personality Traits: Goofy, Earnest, Absent-Minded, Fickle, Impatient
Biography
1995 - Chrono Trigger
Birth. The day he was born, his father had been playing a game he'd picked up at Hollywood Video. Jude doesn't know much of the story except that by the time they all arrived back home - the game was still playing on the TV.
The first few years of his life were filled with your usual mind-numbing childhood stories. He played too much in the dirt, making fake potions for his mom and dad to try. He drew on all the walls in his room, and then his father decided to paint one entire wall of his bedroom in chalkboard paint instead of punishing him. His parents were amazing, though a little too young to have a child. They did their best, struggled with money just like everyone else.
His favorite memories consist of sitting on his father's lap, watching him play games on his SNES or being read college textbooks as bedtime stories by his mother.
2000 - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
5 Years Old. The first time his grubby kid hands touched a controller, it was a skateboarding game with music that blew his tiny little mind. Of course, he had no idea how to play the damn thing, being five - but that didn't stop him from begging to play it everyday or watch his father do it.
That year was also the time when things started to look a little better monetary wise. They could buy games instead of just renting them. His mom had finished up college and got a damn good job at the hospital, while his dad kept going steady at his back-breaking construction job. Jude remembers those days fondly - the weeks they shifted from eating hamburger helper and $5 Little Caesar's pizza to actually going out for Mexican food every Wednesday and beef stew on Sundays.
2005 - Psychonauts
10 Years Old. Things were great. Then they were bad again. In the span of five years, they went from comfortably living to moving their grandparents into their home - sick from being too old, they needed care. His home went from a safe haven to a warzone. His mother and his father's parents were at odds with one another almost constantly, and Jude was caught in the middle of it - told things about either side that surely should have been none of his business. It was too much stress on him - and he went from always hanging out with his father to shut away in his room, playing games there by himself.
Psychonauts taught him a lot, but not enough.
At ten, Jude started to realize that he was a bit different from a lot of the other guys he'd started to befriend, too. In public, he and his friends talked about how much they hated being around girls. In private, the guy who spent the night at his house all the time would talk about one girl all the time in particular. And he could relate, mostly. But his mind would always drift to his friend. There was a spark of jealousy there that he couldn't really understand until much later.
The differences he started to show socially were picked up on by his grandparents, who only used that as fuel for the flames of war.
2010 - Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
15 Years Old. Five years of absolute hell ended in an instant. An accident and old age, and they were finally rid of the elderly parasites that had stolen every ounce of warmth and happiness in their home. He, himself, had grown to resent them - especially with the onset of puberty and heightened emotions borne from hormones.
His mother wasn't the same caring woman she used to be - her own stress and the years had taken a toll on her. 2010 was the year his father was put out of work. He'd been careless, overcome with grief after losing his parents and his strained marriage, he'd fallen on the job and broken his back. From one caregiver position to another.
But while he was home recovering from surgery, Jude found a connection with him again - through games. He showed his dad what he'd been missing, and they found a mutual love for the Assassin's Creed series, taking turns and playing the missions his father couldn't quite do because of his new lack of dexterity. They'd discuss the stories they were experiencing, play old games together. His bitterness at this new normal slowly faded, and while they didn't exactly have the funds like they had earlier in his life - Jude knew that it wasn't everything.
He came out to his father late one night when neither of them could sleep: Jude, too wired on the idea of telling someone - and his father, in too much pain to sleep. They watched a few episodes of Eureka Seven (Jude's choice) and finally he blurted it out, unable to stop himself from crying. Though his father couldn't move to hug him, he'd patted Jude's hand and told him that it was all okay. They talked until the sun came up - in between games and anime. This was also when Jude told his father about having his first crush - on Kevin Ma.
2015 - Bloodborne
20 Years Old. High school was filled with healing, love, and heartache. His family had finally found a way to co-exist with one another again. Though his father would never work again, and couldn't exactly move as well as he used to - he was able to process his grief in the time healing and found a way to show his love to his wife. Of course, Jude watched all of it while still pining for his own crush.
It was almost too messy, in the end. He'd confessed to Kevin, made a move, even. And while he swore up and down that he was in love with him - Kevin wasn't nearly as ready to shout to the world that they were together. It hurt, because of course it hurt - and it made Jude feel as if his own feelings and care for the other boy weren't enough. Too young and too naive to understand what it might have been like for him, they broke up right before college - with Jude swearing that they could be friends. It worked for a while, but Jude eventually stopped responding to texts, though not exactly on purpose.
College was meant to be the start of his life. High school hell was over, and he could finally move on and be an adult - only his grades weren't up to snuff, and neither were his test scores. Every option he'd tried was out of the question, and his family landed right in the middle between earning just enough to not get enough benefits and too little to cover full tuition. So college became a pipe dream - and Jude turned to working.
He tried a few places over the years after high school, but finally landed and stuck at Moonlight Skate.
2020 - Hades
25 Years Old. Five years at a dead end job would make anyone want to explode customer's brains, Jude tells himself. It's not all bad, though. At least it's not fast food. The job, while retail and not exactly the end all be all of money, is steady enough to allow him to get his own place. He helps his parents out with what he has left over out of his checks, and while they don't expect it of him, they're grateful.
It's a normal life. A lonely one, but a normal one. Without the ease of making friends in college, Jude finds he doesn't exactly have many left. He has game nights with his parents, and sometimes getting his father out on walks over to the arcade - but for the most part, all the socializing he gets is with his coworkers and some of the regulars at the rink.
It's not so bad, he tells himself over and over again. Better to be safe and somewhat lonely than stranded far from home. He finds solace, mostly, in the internet. There are a few people who hop in on his streams - one mod, four regulars, and a handful of people who pop in and out. It's nice.
He thinks about maybe getting a cat so his apartment isn't so quiet.
2024 - Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
29 Years Old. He does get a cat. A small calico kitten named Meru.
Moonlight Skate has never once been a dangerous place to work. If anything, it's almost boring in the way that there's little to no excitement. Sometimes, he'll duck into the back and house a slushie before the rush or chomp on a frozen pickle juice but - the only excitement that brings is a righteous brain freeze.
Except, y'know. Port Leiry's weird, and always has been. People talk about not walking alone at night and watching your back during the full moon, but Jude never really gives anything like that much thought. After all, it's a tourist town and feeds off of the spooky stories to get more money.
These things always do have a way of catching up.
He'd biked to work that morning, and usually it's fine - but he'd had to cover a double for the closing shift. Biking alone at night wasn't all that bad usually, but the night was a full moon. Coyotes were howling, and it set him on edge.
A flurry of motion results in a crashed bike, searing pain, and oozing blood from a bite mark gorged deep into his forearm. The next morning, the wound is practically gone.
A month later, and he finds out just exactly how 'spooky' Port Leiry really is.
Wanted Plots
High School Sweetheart (Kevin Ma); Jude and Kevin dated previously in high school but ultimately broke up because Jude could not handle being kept a secret and did not understand why Kevin needed to keep it that way.
The Wolf (0/1); A total accident in which a werewolf lost control and Jude biked too close to where they were hunting. Would be like a mentor to Jude, though he's still unsure exactly how to process the whole 'werewolves are real and i am one' thing.
A Family Friend or Two; Someone who saw all of the drama that happened in the Grigsby family and helped them through the strife with his grandparents and through his father's accident. This person would be like an aunt or an uncle to Jude, and someone he feels comfortable speaking to constantly.
The Bestie (0/1); This is exactly what it says on the tin. He doesn't have very many friends, and really only talks to most people through online servers or social media - but this is someone who he's been able to keep in touch with over the years. Would have been someone he went to school with up until high school graduation.
Any and all Cerberus packmates.
Previous hook-ups. None of these would be serious, and Jude would not have any lingering feelings for them. Basically something to scratch an itch every now and again. Could still be good friends afterwards.

Total Drama Level Up Chapter Five Behind-The-Scenes
With only one chapter to go in TDLU, I'll be doing these posts more frequently in the coming days. Or try to at least, I kind of have a lot going on IRL right now. Anyways, here's chapter five.
Everything Chef said in this chapter about how it was hard for "the show" to come up with a sports-based challenge that wasn't just a sport of some kind was exactly my issue when planning this challenge. Actually didn't fully flesh out this idea until quite a ways into the writing process.
Originally the challenge was going to be a race, with the objective being to trick off specific objects on the course before anyone else could. But I scrapped that idea because I felt a race would be too similar to chapter one.
As I stated in the author's notes, a big inspiration was the Tony Hawk series that I loved playing as a kid. In fact I'd originally planned to describe the skatepark in the warehouse as exactly like the Warehouse level from Pro Skater 1, but that didn't give me enough to work with. I did still use some elements of it in my story: the kicker gap, the car surrounded by ramps, and the large central half pipe.
Once I'd settled on the basic gist of the challenge, the bit with Lauren almost bailing and Zee saving her was one of the first things I came up with. In fact, that was the moment I decided down the path of not just writing them as friends, but as potential love interests, which I'd expand upon in chapter six.
I made Zee a skateboarder because I wanted to give him some interests outside of loving soda. That's the beauty of fanfiction, baby.
Fun fact: the moment after Zee saves Lauren and he says "his foot's broken," only to reveal he was talking about his prosthetic was one of the first jokes I came up with for the fic, and was actually gonna be used all the way back in chapter one. In an early draft I had Zee and Chase on the same team and they would've been the ones to crash rather than Chase and Ripper, leading to the broken foot joke. At the time I was sorry to see it go, and was very happy when I realized I had the perfect moment to use it after all.

scenegraph reviews: smp kit makes pose roll.exe (part 2: size comparisons/etc)
(part one is thisaway)
helter skelter
needless to say, gluing down the antennae really helped her out. she still does not pass the Sit Test. it should be possible, but her waist really doesn’t like it and will pop loose while i’m trying to adjust the pose. however, she does get the Tony Hawk Pro Skater Seal of Approval.
i never took a picture of it because lol lmao she balances perfectly well with the antennae fix she doesn’t need it unless you want to pose her using floatshoes, but she does come with a nicely themed stand, which plugs into her button! so it’s both pretty unnoticeable when it’s not in and hey, cool, she has a stand. good thinkin’ there.
aaaand some size comparisons, so you can see how she’ll fit in with other figures! L-R: picco neemo S, figma mumi, smp roll, kotobukiya classic roll
(at this point, i forgot that the reason kotobukiya classic roll is consigned to the tchochke shelf instead of hanging out with the other figures is that she loves to fall apart without warning. really, really loves it. i’ve gotten so spoiled by megami device kaede, when nearly a decade separates the two sculpts lmao)
aaaanyway. L-R: hairdorable, nendoroid, smp roll, calico critter/sylvanian family older sister
now that she’s together and my thumbs have recovered, i am super happy that i have this lil roll! she’s everything i needed to tide me over until kotobukiya roll.exe returns from prototype purgatory, and at such a small size it’ll be easy to display future navis in the series should people buy this first set.
i fully expect series two to be half taken up by the insanely conspicuously absent usual suspects of blooz and fort. but at the same time, their being missing here (in favor of gutsman and fireman! this is really an exe episode 8 collection, not a bn1 collection!) really tells me that bandai has more plans for this series? and that is good, because there are a lot of navi designs i love that i would be incredibly happy to have a smol, posable representation of. like elecman! and toadman! and aquaman! and medi! and RING PLEASE CAN WE GET THAT FAR
i know i just got done outlining how these things are a bit of a pain to get together and you shouldn’t pay scalper prices for ‘em considering the unadvertised work and unincluded tools you’ll need to be ready to utilize, but IF THEY DO REAL WELL THINK OF THE NAVI DESIGNS WE COULD GET WHO AIN’T NEVER HAD A FIGURE BEFORE
#personally i am hoping for blooz/fort/iceman/elecman for set two#mmbn#rockman exe#rockman.exe#smp kit makes pose#smp#Shokugan Modeling Project#bandai namco#plamo#plamodel#megaman nt warrior#megaman battle network#mega man battle network

New Sonic Dream Team details from hands-on impressions
New details for Sonic Dream Team has emerged from a hands-on impressions article from DigitalTrends. News and notes follows...
Zones contain multiple objectives, some of which include: reach the stage goal, race through checkpoints, collecting keys scattered throughout the level. Each completion awards an orb to unlock more levels.
According to a developer, Dream Team took inspiration from other games like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Super Mario Sunshine.
The author said that the game "bares a surprising resemblance to classic 3D Mario games," but also said that it "properly replicates the feeling of Sonic’s early 2000s adventures with fluid, snappy races,"
Levels were filled to the brim with multiple paths meant to be replayed and accommodate different character types.
All characters play the same, with some special abilities: Sonic and Amy can boost, Knuckles and Rouge can climb and glide, Cream and Tails can fly.
