very important question, what do you think all of their top songs would be on their spotify wraps?
This is an important question. Okay, here we go:
Shawn: nothing but 80's songs all the way down maybe a few 90's ones, too). I think his top track would be "Don't you (Forget About Me)" by Simple Minds followed closely by "Head Over Heels" by Tears for Fears. He'll listen to the same song over and over until he gets tired of it and moves on to another one, before cycling back and repeating it.
Gus: Gus's music taste would be all over the place. His Spotify wrapped consists of every music genre known to man. Rap, pop, classical, rock, emo, if it sounds good to him, he's saving it. His top song, though, would probably be "I Wanna be Your Boyfriend" by The Rubinoos. Nice, catchy, and appeals to his romantic daydreams.
Jules: she has great music taste, a lot of classic rock hits in there. According to her character interview on USA Network, she listens to Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, and Pink Floyd. Overall, her Spotify wrapped is a spectacular selection. (Un)fortunately, she is not immune to early 2000's pop. Her top song is "Firework" by Katy Perry.
Lassie: He lies and tells everyone that his top song was "a heavy metal song, you probably wouldn't know it," when in reality his Spotify wrapped is mostly musical theatre tunes and ABBA. His top track is "You're The One That I Want" from Grease.
Chief Vick: all Phil Collins, who else? She's in his top 0.01% of listeners. Her top song is "Invisible Touch" by Genesis (Phil Collins' band).
Buzz: huge boy band fan. His top song is "Kokomo" by the Beach Boys. He thinks it's catchy.
Henry: would never pay for Spotify Premium and hates the free version
Woody: alpaca mating calls

Skz reaction to their s/o listening to angry music
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: ot8 skz × gn!Reader (individually)
Genre: I'm pretty sure this is fluff
Request: "i was wondering if u could write like a reaction of skz when they find out that yn is listening to angry music (metal, rage rap,..)"
A/N: I AM SO LATE with this request, I'm so so sorry😭 it took me a while to figure out how i wanted to write this but I hope you like it nevertheless! Also first time I use dividers and I think it's so cute (credits in the end of the post)
Tumblr media
Bang Chan
I think he would be so surprised?? Mainly if your music taste doesn't match your appearance
Like imagine you wear such soft clothes and then you're listening to rage in your headphones
He would be tempted to make more songs like this to stray kids though
And would ask for your opinion ofc, might even put your name in the credits
Will also send tiktoks he finds about angry music all the time
And if he ever gets to know one of your favourite artists (this man knows the whole entertainment industry atp) he will let you know and might even bring you an autograph
Lee Know
He would find out your music taste when you guys made one of those matchings in spotify
He swore you guys would be more than 90% compatible
you were only 34%
he is in shock
But he listens to every single song that shows up on the matching
Might even add some to his favourites
Will let you know his opinions too
And if another member likes angry music as well, he will mention you in the conversation
He might even use this as a way to bring you closer to the members
His s/o and his best friends, he would love that
Changbin
If you like angry rap he is now taking notes lmao
Will try to incorporate it in his own rap
Takes you to concerts!!
Buy you merch!!
Tries to meet with your favourite artists!!
Makes angry music for skz!!
Will do everything and anything when it comes to your likings, including musical taste
And he would add angry music in your karaoke nights
He is screaming from the top of his lungs into the mic but he is so happy lol
Please scream with him, thank you
Hyunjin
I feel like he always knew that
It was probably one of the first things he knew about you
And even though he might not like this musical genre personally, he will probably listen to it sometimes and will have some of your songs in his playlist
But he likes it the most when he is driving and you play one of your playlists on the radio
When you sing along>>
And!!
If you know the story behind one of the artists/songs PLEASE tell him
He would love to listen to you explain it to him
Han
You can't convince me that this man doesn't have some songs like that in his playlist as well
He goes to the gym listening to the most agressive songs ever
So he actually is pretty happy you guys have something else in common
And if you guys like the same artist or the same song, he is in heaven
Specially if it's metal
Nothing will change my mind, he listens to metal a lot
And agressive rap
Will also incorporate to his rap sometimes and maybe will even put some references to your favourite artists on the lyrics
Will add a lot of your recommendations to his playlist
Felix
Tried to do a matching on spotify as well and was in shock with how many metal and rap was there
Asks you to make a playlist for him recommending some songs
Will show your recs to the members as well
Suddenly all the dorm is listening to metal
And if you ever think that his voice could match one of your favourites songs, he would be so honoured fr
Like, you're making an association between a thing that you love and him, he is so genuinely happy
Will try to sing it ofc
Seungmin
He is other one who I think will probably not like the genre that much
But will listen to it whenever you listen to it
He really likes to share an earphone with you
If you're up to it, so is he
And also likes to pick which song you're listening to
Will make a whole queue for you to listen
And if he ever comes across to another angry music, he is sending it to you immediately
I.N
Now that they have personal instagram accounts (I'm so happy lmao) he will post a picture on his stories and will let you choose the song
So he is wearing the cutest outfit but rage is playing on the background
He finds it pretty cool ngl
And since we're talking about fashion
He would love to see how your musical taste reflects on your clothes, if it does
It's so interesting he swears
He would also spoil you with merch and concerts
I believe he would try to listen to some angry music to try to impress you lmao
Like you'd be listening to some music and somehow he knows the artist, the album and even the release date
Pretend you didn't see him search everything on google
Tumblr media
Feedback and reblogs are always appreciated!

EMO vs MALL EMO vs SCENE vs SCENECORE
i see a lot of confusion and arguments around what is emo/scene or not so i wanted to make this blog as a fan of most of these genres to hopefully help clarify a little!
EMO this genre is the ORIGINAL emo, although it sounds completely different from the emo music most people know today. it originated in the DC hardcore scene in the mid-80s, spawning from post-hardcore and hardcore and gained more popularity in the 90s. bands include: rites of spring, sunny day real estate, moss icon, cap'n jazz, the get up kids,
if you want to listen to some emo music, here's a spotify playlist i recommend!
MALL EMO mall emo is what most people think of when they hear the word emo. i call it mall emo (not sure if others do or not but i think it's most fitting) because it's the bands whose merch you would find somewhere like hot topic or spencer's(not a dig at mall emo i love this genre so much). it's the music genre(s) associated with the emo style and gained a ton of popularity in the 2000s. bands include my chemical romance, falling in reverse, all time low, panic! at the disco, fall out boy, paramore, pierce the veil, sleeping with sirens, evanescence, escape the fate, flyleaf, taking back sunday etc.
here's a playlist (i know it says actual emo music, i think they mean actual mall emo music as opposed to like yungblud + tx2 type shit)
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: EMO AND MALL EMO ARE NOT THE SAME THING!!!!! however, getting mad at someone for thinking mall emo is real emo is kind of pointless. because of the popularity of the emo style, the word has evolved to more assosciated with mall emo in pop culture than real emo. most people don't know the difference and that's not like a personal failing on their part that you need to be rude about! if/when you explain it to someone, be respectful! i'm looking at you, garrett!
SCENE scene is a subculture within emo, with its own more colorful version of the same fashion elements, that gained popularity in the late 2000s/early 2010s. there are a lot of different music genres within the scene subculture but the ones people most think of is crunkcore, which is a mix between electronic, hiphop, rap, and metal. bands include: dot dot curve, ismfof, attack attack!, millionaires, brokencyde, metro station, the medic droid, kill paradise, chunk! no captain chunk!, jj demon, breathe carolina, 3OH!3 etc
SCENECORE scenecore is a subgenre of hyperpop that originated on tiktok. it uses the aesthetic of the scene subculture a lot, and scene related things are often mentioned in the songs. however, the difference between scene lyrics and scenecore lyrics is that while scene music mostly has lyrics about sex, drugs, love, partying, clubbing etc scenecore lyrics are oftentimes about self harm or other harmful behavior or weirdly fetishize scene people. this is a problem because it's essentially just harmful stereotypes about scene trying to perpetuate itself as actual scene music. bands include: 6arelyhuman, kets4eki, odetari, rebzyyx, d3r, asteria, luvwillow, etc.
here's a playlist
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: SCENECORE IS NOT IN ANY WAY SCENE. scenecore isn't even related to the scene style like mall emo is, it's just hyperpop! if you want to get into scene, do your research!! listen to recommendations from actual scene kids!! 6arelyhuman is not scene!!!!!

✦ gojo
➥ Gojo is a very laid-back and fun guy, so I think he would listen to music that has that same energy
➥ He kinda reminds me of those moms who listen to the overplayed songs on the radio and always sing them, I don’t know to explain it, but that's him

➥ I think Geto listens to a little bit of everything, alternative, rock, rap, R&B,  and hip-hop. I can’t really picture him strictly listening to rock and alt. It doesn’t feel right
➥ As Geto got older, I think his music taste changed. He still likes everything, but he leaned towards one genre rather than several

➥ I think the music that she listens to is very mellow and relaxing but might have some sad undertone to it from time to time
➥ She gives me older music vibes from the 70s to the 90s. Like Fleetwood Mac, ABBA, and Sade. I can’t see her listening to newer music

songs
♪ How You Remind Me: Nickelback ♪ Pancake Land: Element Eighty ♪ The Man Who Sold the World: Nirvana ♪ It’s Been Awhile: Stained ♪ Crawling: Linkin Park

✦ sukuna
➥ So, at first, I was sure he would listen to heavy metal and rock because he has such an aggressive personality, but after I gave it some more thought canon, Sukuna would hate it. Music or noise that loud and obnoxious would annoy him.
➥ Acknowledging the fact that he was born in the Heian era and during that time, they listened to Gagaku (court music), which is either instrumental or vocal. It’s calming and relaxing in contrast to his persona
➥ Or he hates music altogether, idk; he's a grumpy old man. Everything pisses him off

➥ Since he's over a thousand years old, imma say he has a very diverse taste of music and probably listens to a little bit of everything. If I were to choose what genre he likes most, I would say rock, both light and heavy
➥ Kenjaku enjoys listening to Marilyn Mason and Oingo Bingo. Marilyn Mason because he’s Marilyn Mason (derogatory) and Oingo Bingo because of their surrealist music, which I think Kenjaku would find them entertaining
➥ Listens to music that feeds into his delusions, motivating him to continue with his vision of the world he wants

꒰ MILES MORALES ꒱
Ꮺ miles’ music taste would be a vast range of rnb, trap, hip hop, jazz, spanish, and any and everything connecting to his culture and he’s not picky with what to listen to tbh
Ꮺ I don’t believe miles has a favorite genre or set standard of what he listens to, it just genuinely depends on what his mood is or what he has on repeat at the moment. generally, it’s a song that he found from tiktok or a leaked song that he found on soundcloud. speaking of, miles has no shame using soundcloud as a streaming service
Ꮺ but miles does have a set genre for each part of his day or whatever activity he is doing. If he’s getting ready and on his way to school, some 90s rnb or 90s hip hop; when doing homework, he plays jazz music or some chill spanish music; during his drawing time, he’ll put on some chill trap music or try to find an album that connects with what he wants to draw
Ꮺ miles is very open-minded to his music taste so he’s not really one to say no to a specific genre. now there were definitely some albums he wasn’t a fan of, but he will explore the artist of that album. he usually gives artists another try, even if their recommended album wasn’t the…best
Ꮺ miles is definitely one to collect vinyls, especially old-school ones, he has them plastered around his room and some sitting in a bin. jeff gifted him a record player so the vinyls wouldn’t be collecting dust and so that they could both enjoy the music on jeff’s off days
Ꮺ miles has a playlist for like…everything, and I mean everything. he has a drawing playlist, a spiderman playlist, a playlist for gwen (don’t tell anyone), a playlist for when he’s overthinking, a playlist to change clothes, a playlist to brush his teeth, even playlists for his favorite tv shows. listen, this boy is very much so obsessed with music
Ꮺ he shares his love of music with his parents as well! I do believe rio is more open to his music suggestions than jeff. however, jeff can be more open to mile’s favorite artists, it will take him a while though. whenever it’s a quiet moment in the morales home, they let music play as the day goes
꒰ GWEN STACY ꒱
Ꮺ I do believe gwen is less open to music suggestions than miles is. like miles is very expressive with music while gwen isn’t
Ꮺ on a day-to-day basis, gwen plays 90s rock music or 2000s pop punk. she doesn’t really go by her emotions, but more like whatever song is stuck in her head at the moment
Ꮺ I believe that gwen was a major pop girl and was very in tune with the pop girls of her early ages, but later shifted into the punk/rock category. a couple of avril lavigne songs and that girl is screaming teen angst at 4 a.m
Ꮺ also gwen has a heavy liking for indie/alt music ! she likes her underground artists or artists that can combine other genres easily. she also has a love for artists like tv girl, girl in red, and frank ocean
Ꮺ technically, gwen would explore the sub-genres of punk and rock but doesn’t dwell for too long. She doesn’t mind heavy metals but prefers not to listen to them all the time, wouldn’t wanna shatter her eardrums since she’s spider woman
Ꮺ she also listened to a lotttt of female artists and female groups, and she’s a huge fan of girl groups! but I think she’s more into the older groups like spice girls, pussycat dolls, etc. I do think she would be into kpop girl groups and would be into ones that make like bubblegum pop or “noise music”
Ꮺ she has certain artists that she can never get tired of and also some artists that she prefers that no one knows she listens to
꒰ HOBIE BROWN ꒱
Ꮺ now hobie is all around when it comes to music, he’s just about on the same level as miles tbh
Ꮺ hobie isn’t embarrassed about any genre that he listens to. so yes, he doesn’t mind getting laughed at for liking country music
Ꮺ now hobie is very big on music that was pioneered by black people, which makes him love genres like country and rock even more. he can never get over how much music is curated by, and usually for, black folks
Ꮺ now hobie is always gonna give his flowers to artists that he loves and shouts them out in interviews or moments when he’s caught on camera. also, whenever he’s asked what’s his favorite song at the moment, it never stays the same omg- one day he says alex isley and the next he says smino
Ꮺ on a daily, hobie listens to whatever he’s vibing out to at the moment. If he just finished a concert, of course he’s gonna keep the mood going and have rock playing; on a lazy day, some new school rnb; on the days of being spiderpunk, some trap music mixed with some old school hip hop; wash days would include jazz, indie/alt, and some rnb (old school and new school)
Ꮺ hobie has a playlist of recommendations for almost every important person in his life. he loves music and it makes his heart happy when he can share his love of music with others or enjoy watching people enjoy what he listens to
Tumblr media
♡⃕ this been sitting in my drafts and somehow got the energy to write it ;p

I've been listening to the langtime studio chats and it's made me wonder, what are some of your favorite hard rock/heavy metal bands? What kind of genres do you tend to enjoy?
What is and is not metal has changed over the years. It's kind of like how in the 90s every single new band was "alternative", a genre designation which ended up meaning nothing. I loved (and still love) bands like Van Halen, Bon Jovi, the Scorpions, and Def Leppard, which, believe it or not, were considered metal at one time or another. I was also a huge fan of Soundgarden which was called metal on an episode of Northern Exposure I recently rewatched. But my first real metal band was Megadeth.
In 1994 Megadeth came out with an album called Youthanasia which was accompanied by a music video for the song "Train of Consequences" that ran on MTV. The same way that Van Halen's "Hot for Teacher" begins with a drum solo that's reminiscent of a motorcycle engine, the guitar in the beginning of "Train of Consequences" is reminiscent of a steam train engine. Trains are something that have always fascinated me, so the video caught my attention. Soon I was looking forward to it in the regular rotation of music videos on MTV (at the time, this would've been Weezer, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Coolio, Nirvana, Liz Phair, TLC, etc. [all good stuff!]). The singer of a band can really turn me on or off, and Dave Mustaine's voice is unique. At the time, when I thought of metal, it was primarily screaming, but Dave Mustaine was singing, and I found that interesting. I bought the album, and soon had all of Megadeth's albums. I was hooked.
From Megadeth, I moved on to Metallica, when I learned that Dave Mustaine formed Megadeth after getting kicked out of Metallica. Metallica itself was an interesting story at that time. They came out with the black album, which was a mega mega hit (and controversially so, as metal fans saw it as a departure from real metal), and then they disappeared, with Nirvana and alternative taking over. Then, after years of nothing, suddenly they release a new song, "Until It Sleeps", which sounds...weird. It was followed by the album Load, which...I mean, listen to "Mama Said" and tell me that's metal. I heard "Hero of the Day" played on Coast—the adult easy listening station. Whether you could get into or not, it definitely did not sound like Metallica—or metal, as we understood it. They did accidentally invent the band Volbeat with Load, for which we must all be grateful, but still, with Megadeth getting a new lineup very album, Metallica going off the rails, Iron Maiden with Blaze Bailey, it was clear that metal was moving forward, so I needed to move backwards.
I started going back and finding any metal band from the 80s that I'd heard of to see what I liked. Guns N' Roses and Ozzy Osbourne were easy favorites. I dug everything they did. Other more glam/hair metal bands I didn't really get into as much—Poison, White Snake, Mötley Crüe, LA Guns… But then I found Queensrÿche. Queensrÿche was the favorite band of my history teacher, so I gave them a listen. They'd come out with a new album, Promised Land, and then I happened to get as my second album of theirs Rage for Order, and I lucked into what would end up being my two favorite Queensrÿche albums and two of my favorite albums of all time. The album Rage for Order is sheer perfection—and one of my name-alikes is thanked in the Special Thanks section! I mean, look at this photo:
Tumblr media
If that isn't a fuckin' mood! Geoff Tate singing like a gothic opera singer, everything that can have a harmony being harmonized, every one of them taking every aspect of it so desperately seriously. This album is an entire genre all by itself. It was so good Stratovarius wrote, essentially, a terrible fan fiction song based on "Screaming in Digital" (with, perhaps, some influence from "NM 156" from Queensrÿche's first album The Warning). It also serendipitously to introduced me to Dalbello (a real life Robin Sparkles transformation), whom everyone should check out (seriously, check out whomanfoursays. She just laid it all out).
Queensrÿche also disappointed after Promised Land in the 90s, but I want to return to Iron Maiden. My introduction to Iron Maiden was The X Factor. This was their 1995 album, the first with former Wolfsbane singer Blaze Bayley. I didn't know that. I assumed what I was listening to was the Iron Maiden—the ones Bill and Ted waxed so eloquently about. All I could determine is that maybe they just got old...? I didn't get how the band I was listening to could have ever been popular.
Fast forward a couple years and I'm listening to the only metal show left on SoCal radio after KNAC died and I hear a song that sounds like nothing I've ever heard before. Fast-paced with a beat like galloping horses and a singer with power, range, vibrato, but also a kind of wild, undisciplined menace not found in more refined singers like Geoff Tate of Queensrÿche. Who was this band?! Clearly someone from the 80s I hadn't heard, but I thought I'd heard everything. The song finished, and then the DJ came on listing all the songs in the set, finishing up with "Run to the Hills" by Iron Maiden.
Clearly I had been duped. I went back to the record store to look up Iron Maiden's old albums and, lo and behold, only the most recent album featured Blaze Bayley. Before that there were seven albums featuring lead singer Bruce Dickinson.
A few albums later, Iron Maiden was my favorite metal band. Pretty soon I'd listened to everything—including the first two with Paul DiAnno which I would come to appreciate later—and I was disappointed. There was nothing left! Iron Maiden came out with a new album with Blaze, and we were cursed with "Como Estáis Amigos?" and other disappointments, but it became clear that the Iron Maiden I'd falle in love with was a thing of the past. Imagine what I felt when I was back home from college and heard on the radio a commercial for a new Iron Maiden album with a song I'd never heard being sung by none other than Bruce Dickinson. The song was "The Wickerman", the album was Brave New World, and I would go on to see Bruce Dickinson and Iron Maiden in concert six times—and a seventh coming this October (with the Hu!!!!!! I'm so pumped!!!!!).
There's a lot more to tell here—like the time I visited my ex-girlfriend in Michigan after she'd moved away hoping to rekindle a relationship that I didn't realize was deader than 8-track only to be introduced to Dream Theater by her older brother, or the time the company my friend worked for was hacked with all computers playing a song that would introduce me to Finnish heavy metal, or how looking into James Ronny Dio led me to the truly baffling yet kind of sweet story of Blackmore's Night—but as this is getting long, here are some highlights that haven't yet been mentioned with one song I'll recommend (bands with an asterisk I've seen live):
European Power Metal
Nightwish* ("Bless the Child")
Sonata Arctica* ("My Selene")
Epica ("Cry for the Moon (The Embrace that Smothers, Part IV)")
Lacuna Coil* ("Our Truth")
Delain* ("Stardust")
Amberian Dawn ("I Share with You This Dream")
Helloween ("Power")
Sound-Alike Bands
Crimson Glory ("Lonely")
Autograph ("Hammerhead")
Enforcer ("From Beyond")
The Sword ("Lament for the Aurochs")
Proto-Metal
Black Sabbath* ("Sweet Leaf")
UFO ("Doctor, Doctor")
Deep Purple ("Burn")
Hawkwind ("Assault and Battery/The Golden Void")
Not Quite Metal
Faith No More ("From Out of Nowhere")
X-Japan ("Silent Jealousy")
System of a Down ("Chop Suey")
Tool* ("Sober")
Monster Magnet* ("Mastermind")
The Mars Volta ("Goliath")
Mdou Moctar ("Ilana")
All right, I put a lot of time into finding all those links, so listen to some of those songs! I could write a book on this. I've already taken two hours too long, though. Need to get back to the stuff they pay me to do! >.<

How to Make a Playlist for Your WIP
Do you just desperately want your brain to rot about your characters? Do you want to feel inspired lyrically toward growing plot points? Do you need to input auditory stimulation while you write? Don't you just want to go apeshit about your wip?
But every time you make a playlist for your project, it's got 10 songs you eventually get sick of and the vibes are all over the place? Or is it too aesthetic to improve your process and flow? Do you have a hard time considering even what genre of music would fit the tropes and themes you are playing with in your current work?
Well, do I have some tips for you, motherfucker.
Make sure you set aside some time to do this because it's going to take all day.
Let's go ahead and start by doing the usual thing; add every song that rots your mind about your characters to your playlist, right now. Good, that's a baseline. Now, click on each of those artists, and listen to their entire discography--- or just the first ten songs. I have found consistency in the voices I'm hearing can really improve my immersion in juxtaposition to a playlist that only features a single song from each artist, which can be jarring in my ears. By adding these songs to your list sequentially, you can listen to blocks of sounds or moods without reorganizing your list excessively. Alternatively, this can give your shuffle a greater variety, because songs from the same artist will be cast all over the list instead of grouping up on accident. If you find the song you're hearing is an outlier within the artists music after listening to a few tracks, it's okay to move on from that vibe. Don't add things that don't fit the vibe just because it's a new song that you like, remember to only toss those in your general library. We are creating an atmosphere here, people.
Our next stop is going to be some character building, which will help you overall, so don't skip it. Consider for a moment-- what is your character's favorite song? (Or if your canon exists outside our current world, what would their favorite song be if they were sitting next to you right now?) Add that to the list, listen to other songs in the same genre or discography, and add songs you think they would like. These Do not have to be songs that fit the themes of your story-- such as, if you are writing a grimdark, but your character loves Britney Spears, add Toxic to your playlist. Give your character as vivid and real of intersts as your own.
If you are existing in a fantasy-based timeline, consider what kind of instruments your fantasy world would contain, and find the most niche tracks you possibly can using those intruments. Find out what sounds you like and what sounds you don't, and move forward from there. Listen to classical, listen to death metal, listen to pop, listen to synth, listen to folk, all using the instruments of your world. When you find sounds that fit into the place you are creating, add those tracks until you feel a genre is forming. This can be lyrical or non-lyrical, don't confine yourself. Immersion is so important, and the sounds of the world in which your character lives should be as real and vivid to you as the world around you. Because in that moment when you think 'huh, they should really have some sensory input right now.' You will be hearing what sounds they would hear in the distant public places, the elevator noise, the market sounds, the stillness of night, the bright waking of morning, and in all those places, there is music. Let them hear it.
Now, if you are existing in an earth-based timeline, you can do something extra cool with the advice above--- listen to music that your character would have listened to growing up. For example, I was born in the 90s, but my main character grew up between 1975-1990, that would have been the era of their childhood and teenage experience. And what is more important to kids than music, I mean, c'mon, we were all teens with a favorite (and least favorite song). Listen to songs of the time in genres you think your character would enjoy, and add ones you think they would want to hear on the radio or own a hardcopy of to your list. Don't add the ones you think they'd hate (unless it helps you), but do consider, would they hate this song? And why? For extra depth.
Think about their life. What song played at their wedding? What song was chosen for their class prom? What song did they sing at Summer Camp? What would they choose at Karaoke when they are sober? Which song would they choose when they're drunk? Which song do they want to hear during a break-up, what makes them want to dance? Do they like lyrical or instramental, can they play music or sing themselves? Are they bad at it? How do other people feel about their tastes? Do this for every character that's important to you. It'll help.
If you are writing inside your own culture, do make sure to include some of those tracks on your list--- things you may have heard at the supermarket growing up, or while walking down the street, in your grandma's kitchen, or something your character may reflect on fondly. If you are writing outside your culture, I have a single all encompassing tip that will help you far beyond playlists---
Research. Research to avoid stereotypes. Do not confine your characters within stereotypes, but do search for niches, inside jokes, cultural booms, impactful tracks and oft-referenced lyrics. Do this by asking questions. One thing I gleened immensely from Stephen King's On Writing is that he asked a lot of questions; do not rely on ChatGPT or Google to be your only source. Go to the Library, go to your neighbor, ask a stranger, post out polls on forums. Ask questions. The best way to be sensitive and immersed is to respect the experiences of the people around us. We do not need to water down or sanitize their experiences for our own comfort or with insecurity-- you will not fail your characters or your readers if you include the experiences of real people around you. The goal is to reflect that spark of life with accuracy and grace in your writing. You create multidimensional characters by sowing in bits and pieces of depth that you've gained through careful listening. To be a writer is to be a reader of the world around you. Only you can prevent flat characters, so don't be afraid to ask questions.
Now that you've done your research, add all that stuff to your playlist.
Let's look at your characters again; what do their voices sound like? Consider adding songs by artists that really sound like your character, especially if they have the same mood or feeling you are going for, but sometimes even not. If you can hear the voice of your work inside the song, it'll be useful. Some people have deep and graveled voices, some are light and airy, and the way they sound can affect speech patterns and how the people in the world around them percieve the things they say. This extra level of introspection can develop a character further than you would ever imagine. Give it a try. Writing an old man? Listen to Willie Nelson. Go on. Listen to Willie.
OKAY--- It's getting pretty chunky now, isn't it? I have one more thing for your to keep in mind;
Avoid pre-made playlists by others. These can often be surface level and I find myself wondering if my playlist is 'good enough' or has the right 'aesthetic' after listening to alot of these mood playlists on youtube. That isn't what matters. What matters is that you get in the zone. What matters is your characters. What matters is the flow, the vibe, the feeling, the mind-numbing waking hallucinations that bring life to the page, the mood. What matters is you and getting it on the page.
Always remember, write because it hurts if you don't.

can u recommend some bands? i think i like ur music taste and i am terrible at finding music
ty :)
of COURSE I can <3 you’ve probably heard of some of these, but maybe there’ll be some you haven’t! I don’t know what you already like, so… here we go :)
Hozier. Yeah this was always going to be first on the list I’m currently listening to basically nothing else! He’s an Irish folk/soul/blues/etc idk musician who uses a lot of religious and mythological themes in his lyrics and has a lot of songs that include social justice commentary.
The Amazing Devil is a folk rock band with an incredibly unique sound. Their songs are incredibly emotional and have an awesome fantasy vibe going on—plus there’s two singers, and they often sing independently from each other, which is something you don’t see often!
Good Morning Bedlam is a bluegrass band that I’ve gotten into recently! They’re sort of like… a mix of the amazing devil and the crane wives?
The Crane Wives, while we’re at it, and
The Oh Hellos. they’re fairly similar and I don’t have a ton to say about their stylistic differences, but they’re all definitely worth checking out!
Florence & The Machine. Most people have heard of them but I always like to recommend them anyway
Alec Benjamin, if you’re into softer indie music! He has a lot of different styles of lyrics, but his voice is consistent, so he’s great to listen to if you’re looking for that sort of variety.
Chxrlotte doesn’t have a lot of music out, but I’m a big fan of the music she has released, including the ones about Good Omens! The others are more angsty which I love too.
The Family Crest is an orchestral indie pop rock band, which blows my mind. I can’t believe orchestra isn’t a more utilized tool in popular lyrical music, because they do it so well.
Good Kid is actually my brother’s favorite band, and I love them too. They’re also indie rock, but they have a very distinctive style and are easy to get into! Plus they haven’t released a shit ton of songs like some other artists, so it isn’t overwhelming to explore their discography.
Jonatha Brooke is an artist I only know about because my mom liked her music a lot in the 90s, but she’s got a super nice voice and has some awesomely relatable lyrics. I especially recommend her album Ten Cent Wings!
Midlake is a super melodic folk rock band. I’m obsessed with their album The Courage of Others, which has a melancholy vibe that’s super easy to get lost in.
Palaye Royale is harder rock than anyone else on the list so far, but they’ve got an awesome style. Unique voice and definitely darker themes in their lyrics.
Tears for Fears is a pop rock band that I love because my dad does. (My parents are musicians—I trust their music taste).
Toad the Wet Sprocket got their name from Monty Python, but PLEASE go listen to the Architect of the Ruin EP. You will not regret it. Also the song Something’s Always Wrong is like… entrenched in my very being.
Elbow is a band that I never see in fandom circles, but they’re definitely not obscure. Check out their album Little Fictions! They’re kind of like Midlake.
Will Wood ranges from chaotic and fun (The Normal Album) to absolutely soul-crushing (in case I make it)! Sometimes even both at the same time!
(I would’ve also put Paramore, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, and other rock/pop punk bands I like on there, but I assumed you already know them.) (If you were looking for harder rock or metal, let me know, because this list is not that.)
If you want more genre-specific recs or even album/song recs, don’t hesitate to ask!! Music is the fuel of my soul.

💳💥💳💥💳 THE SYSTEM WITH A METALHEAD I BEG OF YOU!! ( if comfy ofc )
Like short 5'2-5'3 reader who looks SCARY as shit and wears all black+tatted but is super cutesy until someone says the wrong shit and they get absolutely insane?
feel like steven would be like raging heart eyes
( maybe smutty maybe not either wayyy..)
- 🌑
Tumblr media
Steven Grant
Steven was scared of you at first, that's for sure. The all black and scary look definitely worked on him
It wouldn't be until you approached him that he realized you weren't going to bite him
He finds the difference between the two of you funny, positively.
To me, he seems more like a listener of ABBA and The B-52, those kind of older songs that are more up beat. Something that some suburban dad definitely has on vinyl
I firmly believe that Steven fucking loves the B-52s for some reason, he just has those vibes
Softer type of music, you know? Definitely not metal
But he does enjoy that you're kind and really nice rather than acting the part of how you look
But the one time when you two were out and someone insulted you both and you proceeded to yell at them and cuss them out was a day that he thinks about a lot. You weren't even yelling at them for insulting you, you just tore them a new one because they insulted him
He felt something that day, and he's not saying that he wants you to yell at him, but if you bossed him around a little then he's going to do it with a tent in his pants
He's too embarrassed to admit that but it's defiantly something that's there and you'll catch on someday
Back to the actual topic though, Steven doesn't like metal but he supports you liking it since it makes you happy
Would attend a concert with you but he'd have ear plugs in so that the music doesn't hurt his ears or stress him out
Also, you will have to leave him in the back because he's not going in the mosh pit, he would not survive. I'm sorry but he's not built for that
Marc Spector
Okay, Marc doesn't really listen to metal, he's not an avid metal listener. But I'm sure he's listened to a few songs and knows the more mainstream bands
He thinks you're cool though. Similar to my HCs for them with a goth partner, he finds it fascinating how you don't care how people perceive you and just be yourself. You're happy and he uses that as inspiration to be himself too
Marc would listen to metal music with you if it comes up, maybe you expand his knowledge of the genre
Do I think he'd handle a mosh pit? No, I think it would stress him out too much. Too much is happening and it freaks him out. Loves seeing you having fun though so go mosh for him
Marc also respects the fact that you're still polite and not true to how people think you would be, but 100% if you tell someone off then he's all for it. You tell 'em!
Since I went on a whole side tangent on Steven's music tastes, it's only right I do it for Marc
Marc sort of shares the same taste as Steven where he listens to songs that were around when they were younger. He's a classics kind of guy. He likes it when he hears people from back then on the radio
This man refuses to leave the 80's and 90's music scene. You will have to pry it from him in the field of reeds
Jake Lockley
Jake is such a "I love all genres" guy, he listens to everything and finds something to like in it. Even country, yeah sure modern country sucks but older ones are the ones he talks about when e talks about country music
So yeah, Jake definitely likes metal and can get into it. So feel free to play it around him
He also thinks you're cool and loves your whole look. Buys a shirt to match
100% would love to see you tear someone a new one so long as they deserve it. This man is an enabler, he's in the back cheering you on
Also, if you ask him to go to a concert with you, he will say yes so fast
Jake would survive the mosh pit, he would thrive
It lets him let out some stuff that he's been holding back and energy that he can't really put anywhere else
Honestly Jake would be so clearly into your whole metalhead life. He thinks it's hot. He finds it sexy. There's something about the loud music and look that does something for him and he's not going to hide that
Honestly, yell at him in bed, it'll be good foreplay if you're down

i can't keep quiet about this anymore, i have to say something controversial.
sal and larry, especially larry, are not listening to that much slipknot.
i'm sorry but it has to be said. they're a completely different genre of metal than sanity's fall or any of the bands listed on larry's backpack in the bologna incident. sal owns some masks because his tastes are more diverse than larry's, but also he's sal. of course they're gonna draw him in for that reason. i'll give you a detailed analysis on why i think this and worry not, i will point you in the right direction of the kinds of music that they would listen to a lot more of at the bottom under a TLDR, just scroll until you see it if you don't want to read everything. i'm just tired of people acting like slipknot is THE band they listen to when it's a completely different style to sanity's fall.
if anything, sal's slipknot phase is probably something larry would poke at him for in the future like a cringy emo phase.
the analysis (you can skip this if you want)
for one, while slipknot is pretty iconic, they're not the same genre of metal as sanity's fall at all, and sal and larry are 100% regularly listening to much more hardcore metal than what slipknot produces.
the style is just completely off. the kind of metal that sal and especially larry listen to is a lot closer to bands like eyehategod, decapitated and shrüm than it is to slipknot.
just analyzing the band purely stylistically, sanity's fall is not a band that focuses very heavily on vocal melody or the repeatability of their lyrics, they focus a lot more on the melody of their guitars and dope riffs and the screaming itself than they do anything else, their lyrics are almost completely unintelligible and as far as i'm concerned, basically irrelevant, because that's the genre of metal that they are (i don't know what specific genere they would fall into outside of ~general hardcore~ but you get the idea). this kind of metal does not care if you can repeat the lyrics. maybe the tapes or CDs they produce would come with a sheet telling you what the lyrics to all their songs are, but this genre of metal is not about the lyrics or the vocal melody. what the songs are about themselves is almost completely irrelevant to the vibe that they are creating, which is one of pure Loud And Fucking Awesome. drown out literally everything else in the entire world with the music, that is the kind of genre that sanity's fall is.
that's not something slipknot does with their music at all. slipknot wants you to know the lyrics to their songs, their screaming is powerful but doesn't make their words unintelligible, and they have much stronger vocal melodies because it seems like they want you to be able to sing or scream along to their lyrics. this is part of why i describe them as more "broadly appealing" metal than the kind of metal that sanity's fall is, because it's something people less attuned to the genre can latch onto more easily than a band like sanity's fall. there's nothing inherently wrong with this at all, but the fact is, slipknot is not the hardcore metal that sal and larry are listening to the most of, because they aren't hardcore at all comparatively speaking, and that's actually been the subject of a lot of metalhead discourse and memes over the years, with some people going as far as to say slipknot isn't even metal--something i disagree with, i just don't think they're very good metal, but that's just my opinion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(the memes are just examples, to be clear)
and for two... the culture is just. very different. the slipknot fanbase has a very, very different culture and vibe than does the culture of bands like acid bath, eyehategod, soilent green, goatwhore, and the kind of culture that sanity's fall would have, because they're completely different genres of metal. this is important because the culture of a band and its fanbase is extremely important in metal spaces, and that was especially true in the 90s.
while i listen to hardcore and especially sludge metal and have my entire life, i'm not nearly as into specifically "metal culture", and i'm also 21 and have gotten a lot of information second-hand since i wasn't there, so i can't really be named as an expert on this, take my words with a grain of salt. but from what i know about the fanbase and about this era, there was heavy overlap between slipknot fans and fans of bands like limp bizkit, where the vibe created was one of somewhat exaggerated Tuff Guys, for lack of a better term, and that's very different from the kind of vibe that gabry seems to have been going for when creating larry in particular. this is why sal is probably a much more casual listener who's more drawn to the aesthetic the band creates with their masks than anything else, in my opinion.
larry is a stoner metalhead, an artist, and is someone very attuned to his emotional self even if he does generally keep especially his darker/more negative emotions to himself/in his art alone most of the time. he wants to be strong, for the people he cares about, but he does not want to be a Tuff Guy in the same way that slipknot and limp bizkit fans are. larry is not at all aggressive or insanely easily threatened unless someone is threatening his friends or family, and he's incredibly chill and easygoing, because at heart, he appears to be a sort of caretaker for the group/his loved ones, at least that's how i interpret his character. he's very kind, passionate, caring and genuine, and he's not generally afraid to let that part show, especially around the people he cares about most. on top of this, he's incredibly goofy and silly, it seems like he really loves to make his friends laugh and really more than anything else, he just wants to have a good time. he's also a huge slacker, though it's not expanded on very much in the game itself, and probably enjoys doing nothing [with his friends] more than he enjoys doing almost anything else. he's an incredibly laid-back character, and i describe him as the chill golden retriever to sal's anxiety-disordered cheetah, and that's how the two of them balance each other out.
at the very least, the same cannot really be said for the culture that slipknot is trying to create with their music. larry is just a very different archetype of metalhead than [at least the stereotype of] your average slipknot fan.
basically, larry is this guy:
Tumblr media
and a slipknot fan is this:
Tumblr media
it's just a completely different vibe.
if larry were to listen to them at all, slipknot is very far from the primary kind of metal that larry would be listening to, but i'm personally inclined to believe that he wouldn't like them very much at all.
the canon basis
larry's backpack has all the answers. just looking at the bands parodied on his backpack in the bologna incident makes it very easy to see what kind of music larry listens to, and not a single one of the bands parodied here is parodying slipknot, as far as i can tell. the only one i couldn't make out at all was the one on the left hand side, next to the creeper sticker, but i doubt it's parodying slipknot. ('a break inside'? 'a birth inside'? i don't know, that middle word looks like gibberish to me).
Tumblr media
i got this from the wiki so i'm really disappointed that it's as low quality as it is, but i'll do my best to list the bands out out from top to bottom, and what band each label is parodying to the best of my knowledge:
oden's blood (unsure)
deth (death)
deadtones (deftones)
pantasia(? pantera)
corn (korn)
slay (slayer)
we are void (unsure)
creeper (unsure)
meatallica(? metallica)
S.O.D. (system of a down, often abbreviated to S.O.A.D.)
type o positive (type o negative)
at the grates (at the gates)
slipknot ws formed in '95 and the bologna incident takes place around 94/95, so larry wouldn't have reasonably known about them at this point, but if you've listened to any of these bands, you can see the stark difference between slipknot and the rest of them, and you can see why, in my opinion, larry isn't the kind of metalhead who's regularly listening to slipknot.
to an extent, they probably enjoy some slipknot, and sal in particular is definitely drawn to the culture due to how the band members and fans often wear these halloween masks as a part of their getup (see below), because he has what appear to be slipknot masks in his room in episode 5, (they don't appear to have a picture of this on the wiki so you'll have to take my word for it), because by this point, his interest in rock/metal appears to be a lot more broad than larry's, but even then, i still don't think that he would be as interested in them as other bands. the thing that draws him in the most is the masks and general aesthetic, but there are a lot of other rock and metal artists that did very similar things, such as buckethead and mushroomhead. but in my opinion, he's more drawn to the aesthetic and the 'they're just like me' aspect than he is to the band itself.
Tumblr media
i don't hate them personally, they have their place in music history and have made iconic songs and lines, like psychosocial and "i push my fingers into my eyes, it's the only thing that slowly stops the ache", etc. it's just that when they're the only metal band i see getting referenced constantly, and when the rest of the bands i see getting referenced are literally not metal, they're emo/alt-rock or just rock (such as paramore), it drives me up the wall a little bit as someone who actually listens to quite a bit of metal.
i just don't think that slipknot is the band that sal and larry are listening to on such a regular basis just because sal owns some masks, and when it's the only metal band i ever see people pointing to it makes me want to explode. there are so many metal bands out there, i promise.
you, reader. i am gripping you by the shoulders. allow me to help you expand your tastes.
TL;DR - here is a list of various metal bands to check out.
here is a list of bands that are way more in the genres of metal that sal and larry are interested in (also taking from the bands listed on larry's backpack in case you didn't read that part):
at the gates - swedish death metal
korn - numetal
deftones - alt metal, early numetal
pantera - classic metal
slayer - thrash metal
death - death metal
metallica - classic metal
system of a down/S.O.A.D. - heavy/political metal
type o negative - gothic/doom metal
goatwhore - extreme metal
acid bath - sludge metal
dirty rotten imbiciles/D.R.I. - thrash metal
saxon - english heavy metal
eyehategod - sludge metal
soilent green (not to be confused with the movie soylent green) - grindcore/sludge metal
puscifer - rock
shrüm - sludge metal
decapitated - polish (early) technical metal
these are a good bunch of bands to start with if you're just getting into heavy/hardcore metal, but the best ways to get into more bands is to let your youtube recommendations bring you down a rabbit hole, or talk to people much older than you who are into metal who can recommend bands. another thing you can also do is look at other projects worked on by members of bands you already like.
acid bath is a fantastic sludge metal band, one of the best that's ever done it, in my opinion, and the lead singer has worked on other projects such as deadboy and the elephantmen, a band that is not metal but has some really good songs. other members of acid bath have also worked on bands like shrüm and goatwhore, which is how i found out about them. another example is that the lead singer of tool worked on another band in this list, puscifer, as the lead singer.
music artists don't necessarily tend to stick to one band their entire careers, and it's always a great idea to check out the other projects they've worked on, it's a great way to continue to support your favorite artists and to find new music, and you can often do this by just reading their wikipedia page.
if you read this entire thing, you might be insane but that's fine we can be insane together. i hope at the very least this gave other sally face fans a place to start with when expanding their tastes in metal.
that's it, i'm done, goodnight.
ETA: changed around some wording and fixed some memes that got put in the completely wrong place due to formatting errors.

What if you and Edgeworth shared a spotify playlist?
i'm goooing to wait until someone asks me a question about my blog and why did i start it (and wait for requests)
Tumblr media
pretend that this actually happens and spotify exists in the ace attorney universe
So yeah, you both have a premium spotify account assigned to each other (he doesn't pay for yours this time, your money)
Be careful with what you add there.
I imagine he’d come up to you and genuinely ask why the flying fuck did you add an erotic song in your (his) playlist
‘’Who is this artist called Ayesha Erotica and why do you listen to her? I don’t quite understand what you see in her songs.’’
He is capable of deleting some of the songs you added there so watch out(you can add them back just to annoy him)
He adds classical music , that's all. Nothing much nothing less (STEEL SAMURAI SONGS IN THE PLAYLIST)
Bro made a spotify account just to listen to his favourite classical music artists (AND STEEL SAMURAI–) you know this man is dedicated
He is too ashamed to say that he added metal music in it (because his sister dragged him to different concerts while they both were kids) so he turns it down saying that you added it and forgot about it
But what about your music? What about it? You both share a playlist so you have to listen to each other’s tastes
Well to start off with the basics, he’d listen to anything you add in that playlist (yes even the erotic songs that he talked to you about)
And this is how he gets introduced to different genres of music, not just classic or the famous most recognized top 0.0001% Steel Samurai themes
He is genuinely praying for your wellbeing if you listen to something like Ayesha Erotica (he is traumatized, *deeply*)
He has to be sincere with himself (which he isn’t 90% of the time) but he enjoys some of the music you added there
In 90% of the cases he doesn’t mind the lyrics of the songs or the meaning of them but if an explicit or a REALLY sad one plays then he skips it. Simple
If you somehow as an ‘’accident’’ add a brainrot song there then he’d cringe on the spot and ask his inner self ‘’Why out of every song of this existence, why this monstrosity? I absolutely despise it just why this? Why?’’
Torture him with that music nonstop and you'd get an annoyed Edgeworth that will simply ignore you for 1-2 days
Universally (just me), we can all agree that he would like Bad Apple!! if you add it on your shared spotify playlist
If you both share the same music taste (classical music) then boom you can consider you both married and neither of you has proposed
Let Edgeworth decide on the picture of the playlist and for the name, he would leave the playlist be named the name spotify puts when you both don’t know how to name it and the picture be nonexistent
''Is it really that hard for someone like you to customize a playlist? Fine, I guess I have to do it for you.'' (proceeds to leave it with the automatic settings)
He loves you no matter what and you both sharing a playlist made him happy

ALRIGHT, since Halloween is just around the corner and this blog is ALSO about sharing and talking about my full-time hyperfixation (music), I want to make some recommendations of "unusual" or just unknown songs that very well fit the theme! I've mentioned before that I love making thematic playlists and that I have rules for them everything (it's serious shit!!), so I wanna share some of the songs featured in my "Ecclectic Halloween" playlist. The two basic rules I applied for that playlist are:
The song MUST include anything supernatural, spooky, bizarre, "murder/serial killer", classic creature and so on
The song can be of ANY genre; is it metal? Prog? Disco? Electronic? Soundtrack? COOL, ALL ARE WELCOME!
Let's get started!
1 - Rainbow - Tarot Woman
youtube
As an unapologetic 70s dad rock advocate, I HAVE to start with one of my fave bands of the genre! The song begins with a DOPE synth/keyboard solo, and then iconic Dio (the one Dio from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure was named after) comes in with a bunch of cryptic imagery, like the predictions the tarot woman is telling him as she turns the cards side on:
Something in the air Tells me to beware - No, no, no! Her love is like a knife She'll carve away your life - So go, go, go! Beware of a place, a smile on a bright shiny face I'll never return, how do you know? Tarot woman! But I don't know, I don't know!
2 - Blackmore's Night - I Guess It Doesn't Matter Anymore
youtube
From the same breed of the first song, cause Blackmore was the guitar player / composer for Rainbow - except that Blackmore's Night is a project he made way later (late 90s), with his wife Candice Night, who sings all the songs and composes with him. This song is about the CLASSIC tale of someone giving a lift to a mysterious woman they found wandering at the side of the road; when they get to the place she wanted to go and asks to leave, the driver turns around! And the lady, she's suddenly gone!!!!!
Standing in the rain, the cold and angry rain In a long white dress, a girl without a name She stood beneath the light, Glowing like a candle bright I guess it doesn't matter anymore (...) Finally she spoke, 'come pull off the road' Saying she was headin' home I turned and she was gone, I was all alone
3- Loreena McKennitt - The Bonny Swans
youtube
You might be asking: "Oriel, what the fuck, why is soft spoken-christmas songs-traditional folk medieval instruments Loreena McKennitt in this playlist at all??? With a song named like THAT?? What is so scary about pretty glorified ducks anyway?" - And to that I'll say right off the bat this is the most metal song in the entire playlist, and I say this unironically. This song is inspired by an old ballad and it tells about a girl who was drowned by her own sister out of jealousy of her betrothed; the sister kills her so she can have the lad for herself. It already has murder, as you can tell - but it gets WORSE, as the body of the drowned girl floats down the river and is found by a miller's daughter; a passing-by bard then uses the dead girl's bones and golden hair to make a harp that plays on it's own, possessed by the dead girl's spirit???? She (as the harp) asks to be taken to the court, the bard takes her, and AS A CURSED HARP MADE OF BONES the dead girl outs her sister as her murderer, in front of the entire family and the court. Look. If this isn't METAL AF, I don't know what ELSE can be. The "bonny swans" from the title comes from the comparison Loreena makes of the pale girl's body floating in the water, to swans swimming along. kkkkkkkkkkk JESUS.
He made harp pins of her fingers fair With a hey ho and a bonny o He made harp strings of her golden hair The swans swim so bonny o He made a harp of her breast bone With a hey ho and a bonny o And straight it began to play alone The swans swim so bonny o He brought it to her father's hall With a hey ho and a bonny o And there was the court, assembled all The swans swim so bonny o He laid the harp upon a stone With a hey ho and a bonny o And straight it began to play lone The swans swim so bonny o
4- Sting - Moon Over Bourbon Street
youtube
Probably one of the most fun songs in this, because it's a song written by Sting, inspired by Anne Rice's "Interview With the Vampire"! The song is under Louis' PoV, and he laments his current condition as a vampire and also as a man of god, as he wanders through New Orleans's streets. This Sting's live performance of this song (the live in Berlin, 2010) is my favorite by far - there's a whole ass epic orchestra and even a theremin! hehe
I pray everyday to be strong For I know what I do must be wrong Oh you'll never see my shade or hear the sound of my feet While there's a moon over Bourbon Street It was many years ago that I became what I am I was trapped in this life like an innocent lamb Now I can never show my face at noon And you'll only see me walking by the light of the moon
5- AQUA - Halloween
youtube
Yes, THAT AQUA - turns out they DO have more songs other than Barbie Girl, and they actually slap - I was there in the 90s, when the Deep Eurodance Magic was written. I LOVE this one because it has such a fun vibe, and obviously, inspired by the "Halloween" movie franchise - Lene plays as the girl alone at night who receives a call from René, playing as the psycho who's after her. They even act that scene at the begining of the song dsjfhjsdgf so cool!
The sound of shoes, a shadow that moves Something odd is tic tac ticking Someone's in here, I'm so full of fear The telephone is ringing!!
6- E Nomine - Das Tier In Mir
youtube
ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVES IN THIS PLAYLIST. E Nomine was (?) a German electronic music project who DARED to mix in dark techno/trance beats AND CHANTS IN LATIN, as this deep-voiced dude sings/borderline-raps in German. ITS HARD TO EXPLAIN, BUT I PROMISE, ITS SO SO SO DOPE. They also sang about all sorts of religious / dark fantasy themes - they have an entire album based on the Bible, which I promise, they made it a LOT MORE RAD AND COOL than it sounds; and another album about the supernatural and all kinds of creatures, like vampires, ghosts, werewolves, demons. "Das Tier in Mir" or "The Animal In Me" is their "werewolf" song - it starts off with this kid singing in Latin about the forest, and the moonlight, and the song goes on with Deep Voice Dude singing under the werewolf's perspective; it even features a dramatic transformation sequence!!
[Latin]The forest is hidden, in the moonlight, My home is the forest In the starlight (...) Dark clouds and dark thoughts, The full-moon night smashes my barriers down. The animal desire that I massacre comes in me. I feel this bloodlust here and now. Deep in the night the twinkling stars, A sweet smell is drawing me into the distance. But careful if my passion gets aroused quite gently in the night And the hunter wakes up in me! (Translation from here - it's rather clunky, but that's the gist of it!)
7- E Nomine - Mitternacht
youtube
Yep! Another one by E Nomine, BECAUSE THEY JUST SLAP TOO HARD. "Mitternacht", or "Midnight" is pretty much about the Witching Hour, all the spirits comes out when the bell strikes midnight!! This one is SUCH A FAVORITE of mine because it sounds EXACTLY what a DJ would play as vampires dressed in fancy, old outfits and masks waltz around in a haunted, opulent manor
When the gondolas are in mourning and the dead's lament resounds horror is breathing down your neck When the clock starts striking cold thick fog is touching you gently ...midnight! [Latin] midnight, dark night, cruelty of the soul the bell is ringing twelve times ...midnight! (Translation from here - same from previous song, kinda clunky but we get it)
8- Dead or Alive - Something In My House
youtube
Another classic banger with the catchiest fucking tune ever, by You-Spin-Me-Right-Round-Baby-Right-Round Dead or Alive, sung by ICONIC genderfucker wizard Pete Burns (the Gender Envy of him in this video is real). I have to admit, this one is SLIGHTLY cheating on my rules, cause the "something in my house" in question is not anything supernatural - it's a metaphor for a gone-wrong relationship, lol. Ngl, I think this is kinda fucking brilliant. But like, the spooky, Halloween-y vibes are all there nonetheless: wolves are howling, Pete is singing in an old castle and looking 200% like a vampire. Even if I'm cheating a little, it still fits!
There is something in my house - my house, It's just a ghost of a long long dead affair, There is something in my house - my house, I just keep a hearing you runnin' on up my stairs, But you're not there
9- League of Legends - Fiddlesticks, The Harbinger of Doom
youtube
Finally, some soundtracks! I don't play LoL, but I absolutely love some of the character's themes, and Fiddlestick's is one of them! For what I've got, Fiddlesticks is like this ancient, nightmare-ish Freddie Krugger-like entity, and BOY, does the song reflect exactly THAT. It SOUNDS like a horror movie, and I'm obsessed about it!!
When fields lie calm and wind stands still (Run home, run home) As the crows make night of the fading Sun (Hide now, hide now) When the trees do bow, as if they weep (Stay down, stay down) Though its light beckons forth, a melody calls out (Too late, too late)
10- The Alan Parson's Project - The Cask of Amontillado
youtube
And!!! Last but not least!! Closing this playlist with THIS ULTIMATE DAD PROG ROCK BANGER, which as you can see, is inspired by Poe's tale "The Cask of Amontillado". In fact, the entire album where that song comes from, "Tales of Mystery and Imagination - Edgar Allan Poe", is inspired by his work. Yeah there are also songs on "The Raven" and "The Fall of the House of Usher" too for example! It's just so cool! But "The Cask of Amontillado" is by far my favorite, specially with the instrumental part at the end, ughhhh <3
By the last breath of the four winds that blow I'll have revenge upon Fortunato Smile in his face I'll say "come let us go I've a cask of Amontillado" (...) You who are rich and whose troubles are few May come around to see my point of view What price the Crown of a King on his throne When you're chained in the dark all alone
This is definitely a long ass post, and I really had to cut it even shorter bc of Tumblr's dumbass video limit, but that's alright. I might even put up a part II, hehe I hope you like the Halloween-y songs recs!!

Owl house music headcanons
OK so Luz obviously introduced the other kids to human music, so here's what I think their music tastes are:
Luz enjoys the popular stuff like Taylor Swift and stuff, and but REALLY likes showtunes because she's a theatre kid at heart. She doesn't just sing along. She's got a whole dramatic routine to go with it.
Annoyingly for Luz, showtunes are not Amity's thing. She gets into heavy metal, and it takes everything in Luz to be happy for her.
Willow especially likes dance pop, but anything upbeat and catchy is her jam, no matter what year or genre it's from. She loves to dance along to upbeat music. Luz teaches her the phrase "This is a bop!"
Gus has the exact same taste as Luz, which makes her very happy. ("Take that Amity!" -Gus probably) Gus adores showtunes and Disney songs. He and Luz get really into this musical that came out when Luz was in the Boiling Isles. They proceed to race to see who can memorize the whole soundtrack first. Gus wins.
Hunter likes really calming and relaxing music, because it helps keep him at ease, and thanks to Camila, he's a bit old-school. He gets really into Frank Sinatra, Beatles, Elton John, etc. He also likes country music, which Luz hates, so Hunter annoys her on purpose by singing with a really bad accent.
Vee is really old-school because her music taste comes from Camila. She's into 80s and 90s music, much to Masha's dismay. But they agree to have different tastes in music until Vee catches Masha humming one of her favorite songs, and Masha blushes and says they wanted to try taking an interest in Vee's music since Vee was always taking interest in their hobbies.

What are the proxies music tastes? :0
Both Masky and Hoodie like rock music, just slightly different genres.
I think Masky listens to a lot of 'dad rock'. Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Aerosmith. Classic rock fan all the way. But he also listens to 90s grunge too, since he went through a Pearl Jam phase in his early 20s.
Hoodie would listen to bands like the Deftones, Radiohead, Linkin Park, and Nine Inch Nails. So I guess mostly Nu Metal?
I think Hoodie and Masky have a lot of overlap in what they like though. On long road trips, they'll put on like the Offspring and just zone out.
Toby's more... I don't know all over the place? Typical I know.
He just likes fast-paced songs that get him pumped. Definitely doesn't mind Hoodie and Masky's tastes. They probably influenced him a bit when he tags along with them. Toby isn't as much into music as the other two, he's the type to know some songs he likes but not remember the names of any of the artists. He'd probably gravitate towards more punk rock or like anything featured in a 'slaughtercore' playlist on YouTube idk. Also, I had this thought that there would be some pop songs he'd get really into for some reason? And just play the same thing on repeat over and over again until Tim tries to break the speakers in his room.
