#sam watches season 15

imo one of supernatural's greatest weaknesses is what i'm going to call its locational homogeneity. like. obviously this is largely a side effect of filming a show set all over the united states in the same small area of canada for 15 years but there's just a certain sameness to every location and every episode that's uncanny at best and breaks immersion at worst. they should have gone all in on southern gothic horror and spooky old northeastern coastal towns and rural midwestern isolation and instead it's just episode after episode of identical suburbs with arbitrary location titles slapped over them. the seasons never change. the weather is always mild, never with extreme enough temperature or precipitation to require a change from the standard jacket-over-flannel-over-tee costuming even when we see snow on the ground. this episode is set in the summer in idaho. no, wait, it's set in the winter in kentucky. this episode is set in the summerfallwinterspring in kansachusettohiowa. sam and dean travel all over the country and yet stay completely still. supernatural shows us a massive world and it does not turn and absolutely no one lives in it.

Rewatching Supernatural is like a palette cleanser between watching good content.

This show has wrung my brain like a sponge and I am just desperate for anything with cohesive writing and a completed character arc.

Something that really hits like a gut punch the older I get, as someone whose been actively suicidal the majority of my life, is how fucking. Young Sam is in the original 5 seasons. If it ended as originally intended, Sam never would have made it out of his 20s and I can't accurately describe how sad that makes me

"Houses of the Holy" hits me really, really differently, watching it again for the first time since Supernatural's final season.

It was already an odd feeling to go back and watch when the Winchesters thought angels might be a myth, and they questioned whether or not God existed, after having watched angels get introduced in season 5, and the big reveal that Chuck actually wasn't just a prophet in season 11...but to see all of that after what Chuck does in season 15?

Especially when there's that small spark of hope in Dean's eyes at the very end of the episode, that just maybe, Sam is right, and there is some greater power?

Now that's painful.

(My husband made me feel better, though. One of the big spoilers he does know about is who Chuck actually is, so when Sam says that maybe the angel/spirit is doing God's will, my husband laughed and said, "Nah, he's an asshole." 🤣)
