It's been quite a journey, but, at last, the Flash/Hunger Games crossover that no one asked for is complete!

And it is, by far, the longest fanfic I've ever written.

I'm sorry but I just do not subscribe to the opinion that the hunger games movies were in any way bad or that they "butchered" the characters or themes that suzanne so meticulously and lovingly created, because a) she was always a constant presence in the creation of those movies and the directors/producers were very respectful and mindful of the differences between her books and what they could actually implement in a visual medium that would make sense and propel the story forward in a way that made sense in their interviews, and b) even though the movies definitely don't show all of the thematic nuances of the books, and although they do gloss over/erase a lot of the ways that the games affect katniss and peeta (namely his disability/her loss of hearing), and while the movies are quite preoccupied with the visual aesthetic and streamlining the story for a wider audience, they do still contain the heart and soul of the books and, to me, the creators seemed fiercely protective of suzanne's core vision. also fuck you they're just amazingly well-shot, well-written, and well-acted films, including the mockingjay movies, and i will die on this hill

So i was talking with some friends about the new Hunger Games media coming out, and trying to decide who would play Young Haymitch and Middle-Aged President Snow. We tossed around some interesting ideas for Haymitch (Tom Holland, Walker Scobell, Woody Harrelson in a wig) and some... more outlandish ones for Snow (Jon Hamm, Weird Al Yankovic, Lin-Manuel Miranda).

But then I had an epiphany. A middle-aged man who loves fancy suits, somewhere in the midpoint of Tom Blyth and Donald Sutherland, who haunts the nightmares of innocent people and has a thing for Games...

Day 14: Favorite 20th century scene

In the books, I always felt like Claire’s relationship with Dr. Joe Abernathy was a sweet and special one, so I was happy when the show depicted the same. Claire was incredibly isolated at this point in her life - in her marriage, in her relationship with Brianna, and always always – away from Jamie. In this scene and so many others, Joe recognizes that in her and provides her the encouragement she needs. He makes her feel confident in herself and her decision making again, and ultimately plays a large roll in Claire’s decision to go back through the stones for Jamie.

It’s a beautiful moment between two colleagues and friends, but more importantly it’s one of the few times while Claire was in the 20th century that as a viewer, we see her receive true support and love from someone around her. Joe is a wonderful friend and character, and I loved each of Wil Johnson’s performances in the show.
