Haymitch every reaping

So I’ve always thought that Haymitch telling Katniss she wouldn’t deserve Peeta in a hundred lifetimes was him being bitter and angry with the decisions he has to make. And he may just be slightly harsher to her because she’s similar to him. But I’ve always thought that on the other end he would also be similarly harsh to Peeta in certain circumstances and we just don’t see those conversations. I know we all love Peeta but he’s just as annoying(affectionate) as Katniss. I could definitely see Haymitch calling him ungrateful for icing out Katniss after she saved his life. And I refuse to think Haymitch didn’t have colorful things to say when Coach Peeta was out.

My point being that my idea of Haymitch when he’s really being an asshole is that he comes off like this to Katniss and Peeta despite loving them and wanting them together:

thinking abt how active the hunger games fandom is gonna be in a month cause of sunrise on the reaping and how many new fans are gonna join

only for the activity to die down after a while just like how it did after TBOSBAS :(

Something about Peeta fighting his brainwashed nature and remembering Katniss’s favorite color before his own. Like the Peeta inside of him knows that what they had was real and he’s clinging to the parts Katniss voluntarily shared with him in private.

Something about Katniss fighting her nature to hide and not communicate and sharing all these intimate facts about Peeta. Like the subconscious part of her that still dreams of him promising “always” knows Peeta will eventually recognize how significant those small facts are. That those small facts were learned during moments of real intimacy away from everyone’s eyes.

Something about this moment mirroring the start of their friendship where they both fought their discomfort and found a hopeful pathway forward over the little intricacies of each other.

me, several days later, after finishing mockingjay: oh so its just a story. a tragic, longwinded story about a teenage girl who was used and manipulated by two parties for propaganda or entertainment. she was never cared about by either leader of the sides and discovered they were both evil in some sense, watching people she loves die for a cause everyone claims she revolutionized by simply not wanting to die. she only became the mockingjay because her small acts of rebellion in the 74th hunger games happened to be a breaking point for the rebels, right person right time, but it was not the right person and never the right time. she was sixteen years old.

I catch a glimpse of myself on the television screen on the wall that’s airing my arrival live and feel gratified that I appear almost bored. Peeta Mellark, on the other hand, has obviously been crying and interestingly enough does not seem to be trying to cover it up. I immediately wonder if this will be his strategy in the Games. To appear weak and frightened, to reassure the other tributes that he is no competition at all, and then come out fighting. - "You know what my mother said to me when she came to say good-bye, as if to cheer me up, she says maybe District Twelve will finally have a winner. Then I realized, she didn’t mean me, she meant you!” bursts out Peeta. “Oh, she meant you,” I say with a wave of dismissal. “She said, ‘She’s a survivor, that one.’ She is,” says Peeta.

remembered that maysilee, mrs undersee and mrs everdeen were all friends at the time maysilee was reaped… realized that we will probably hear mrs everdeens First Name for the First Time

i know a lot of people want finnicks game after haymitch’s book, as do i but to be so honest i need a book how the first quarter quell went down so bad… weve been given a crumb of information on it throughout the whole series. like what do you MEAN the district individuals had to VOTE the kids in to send two children to their deaths how fucked up is THAT

if u think about it snowbaird really was wrong person, right time.

although in the books while at the zoo, lucy gray and coryo daydreamed about what it couldve been like if they had met under different circumstances, with flirting and implications of a love that couldve blossomed from there, in reality it would never have worked. throughout the novel coriolanus frequently refers to lucy gray as “his tribute” and “his girl” in a possessive way & gets extremely jealous or suddenly detached at the idea she might still be in love with billy taupe. coriolanus only wants her if shes his, if he can have her.

the reason their relationship sparked so easily for coriolanus before the games began was because of the power unbalance between himself as a mentor, and lucy gray as his tribute. coriolanus likes having power. he fell in love with lucy gray because she was interesting, she caught his attention, he believed she was genuinely a good lovely person whom happened to belong to him, he liked her and having that power over her. but as soon as they both arrived to district 12 as equals, their thoughts they never had the chance to elaborate on in the capitol finally came to light and it proved how different their mindsets were. lucy gray would always be a free spirit, and coriolanus would always need that sense of control lucy gray could no longer give him. lucy gray went from being the only person keeping him grounded, to the only witness keeping him a murderer as opposed to the life that awaited him in the capitol.

I often wonder what happened to Sejanus’s body. Was it burned? Buried in Twelve? Thrown somewhere in the land between the Districts to decompose and be eaten by all sorts of animals? Or was money enough for the Plinths to get it sent to the Capitol, or perhaps to Two, even though he was condemned for being a rebel? Was it treated with the gentleness he deserved, or the roughness that so often was reserved for him in life? Has anyone gone to visit him after, cried over it, brought him flowers, or any other reminder that he was loved and he was just a kid? Or has he been alone ever since?
