Your Lie
Here in the dismal autumn air,
Light is tinged in hazy brown,
An empty dancefloor sings it's requiem,
The echoes ring with no destination.
.
My bones cry out, I scream despair,
Clawing through a scorching prison,
Towards the light my hollow eyes
Can never hope to see again.
.
To candles lit and burn forever,
She smolders, bleak as carbon soot,
My hands are stained like ink in guilt,
For the pains of holding flames through it.
.
Rewind the wax and poetic, wane.
My sonata's moonlight song I sing,
Back in time before the flame,
To futures, dim and still smiling.

Conceptually, "Descent" by VNV Nation comes to mind. https://youtu.be/rgPGuDq-cJU?si=rt1tWSHqu7H0T1WV
Obsessions with "force of will" seem to be a masculine trait, most often realized as violence. That same will carries the capacity to create entire universes. A man gassed thousands in the 40's, but a man also created Middle Earth, the internet, and landed on the moon.
In scripture, this is shown by the Pharaoh of Egypt during Moses' proclamations (Exodus), the arrogant Belshazzar at the fall of Babylon (Daniel 5), and king Rehoboam (1 Kings 12).
Violence is but the simplest application of will given destruction is easier than creation. Build the tower or knock it down? Kindergarten philosophy. You want power, to make a name for yourself, and to be respected and admired... So domination of other's wills is the easy route to a false version of that spark of creation.
Saw an op-ed the other day that I can’t get to link properly talking about how men are lost and the responses to men being lost are a kind of malevolent indifference from the left and bizarre dangerous caricatures of archetypes on the right and one of the things I have dimly perceived for years but only recently managed to articulate is that the conversation about men is almost only ever concerned with men’s capacity for violence. From this principle the left will by turns ridicule, lecture, or ignore in the hopes of disarming, while the right will insist the male capacity for violence has a valuable place in society when properly aimed.
Both accept, however, that the essential characteristic of a man is violence. What happens when there is no outlet for violence? I will go a step further and enter theological territory: in the Kingdom of God, where there are no more battles to be fought and the enemy is extinguished for ever, what happens to male souls, having lost what made them essentially men? Souls are not “men” and “women” in an earthly sense but are they masculine and feminine? Does the former pass away and the latter go on, as I have read at least one theologian suggest?
I don’t quite have the means to unpack this yet but the TL;DR is that man and woman are made in the image of God and as God is our creator and the creator of all things I think that maybe men could find a way to lean into being creators and embrace that aspect of their nature that they share with their Father
“women also create” yes women are also violent but we are talking about gross generalizations
The popular image I see is that Zoomers and I suppose a few younger Millennials are embracing that they are the “strong men” that have been created by hard times, understood, again, mainly to be about their ability, or willingness, or desire, to be astonishingly violent. We’ll see how that goes, but there are always a lot of things to build and to repair.
“I have no outlet for creativity” you also have no legitimate outlet for violence and yet here you are seeing that as your main purpose in life

Game of Grand Design
You see the truth with liar's eyes,
Hear the world with deafened ears,
As a golden ratio spills in spirals,
Fibonacci turns and smiles.
.
We are the prophets, same as old,
You are the manifest of time,
For a greater consciousness despoils,
Leaving vestiges of soil.
.
Where spacetime weaves a neural star,
Atomic planets circling on,
We, the thoughts, made carnalized,
We snipped the strings to realize.
.
Pre-destinies are for programmed pets,
Where shadows are but similes.
My die is cast, and I've loaded mine,
Within the game of grand design.

more thoughts on boneyard aka fearmonger that im kind of struggling to word. but i really appreciate that the album manages to balance speaking from the perspective of an unreliable narrator with a clear sense of purpose. which is usually like.... writing 101, but obviously a lot of songwriters arent really thinking about that sort of thing? especially not when the album is viewed within its full context. but like. the contrast between "everybodys dead" and "saltfields (theres nothing we can do!)" shows this very plainly. like, in "everybody's dead," the narrator shifts between talking about their own self-absorbed guilt complex where they believe every political issue is Their Fault and also their relationship problems with someone else whos very self-absorbed. which is a great way to craft dramatic irony. but then saltfields inverts this by saying "oh, sure, everything sucks and i, individually, am not a huge deal, but also theres nothing i can do about the state of the world and we should all just give up :)", and then the song slowly like... destroys itself from there. i like how violent it sounds, like theres such a huge gap between the joyful apathy of the narrator and how fucking angry the song is at them by the end
to use an example of an album that deals with similar themes and is Not as self-aware as boneyard, hypochondriac by brakence. which i love dgmw. its hands-down my most listened to album Ever which is kind of incredible considering it came out this year. but it also talks about environmental & political anxieties among specifically youth living in the imperial core, but it doesnt have anything interesting to say and feels obnoxiously self-centered. and i feel comfortable saying that here considering brakence will never see this. but like. ok lets take this line from uhh. i think it was 5g iirc?
when i die i hope im buried in a forest, that is if any of its left, this shit is torrid
like. ok aside from the fact that "torrid" is a really random word to use here and was obviously just used to fit the rhyme. this is the literary equivalent of a tedtalk. the artist is just straight up telling you their thoughts with no creativity or anything. its boring, okay?
at risk of sounding repetitive (i need to get back on subject somehow, sorry), boneyard manages to avoid the very easy trap of "tell, dont show" through the satirical implementation of an unreliable narrator and a clear arc throughout the album. there are some lines that feel too expository, but theyre sparing and they have a clear purpose. i think i just love underscores bc their ability to make fun of a specific Kind Of Person while also creating an interesting character (ie all of fishmonger) is so good. i love you underscores
