9 BOOKS I PLAN TO READ IN 2025
Tagged by @aunteat TYSM!
Tumblr media
Faust by Goethe: Rereading Tale of the Body Thief got me in the mood to actually sit and read this pure poetry. I have to read it slowly because almost every single line slaps. It's just absurd how good the prose are.
The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky: Almost finished with The Idiot and it is so tender and beautiful and hilarious. I find I am so in love with the tragically fictional Prince Myshkin that I, too, am doubting my sanity. If The Brothers Karamazov is even better, as most tend to champion as superior, then give it to me immediately.
Blood and Gold by Anne Rice: In 2024 I reread The Vampire Armand, Tale of the Body Thief, and Memnoch the Devil, so let's give Marius de Romanus his time in the sun (but not really, that kills the man, or rekills him, rather).
The Return of the King by Tolkien: Every year in November and December I open one book from the trilogy and just get as far as I can before winter is over. Just my cozy little activity. So this year, you're back up in circulation, The Return of the King.
The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith: Hello, the sapphic film Carol was based off of a book? For shame I did not know this.
The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway: Look. So I read half of it in 2022 and thought that Hemingway just might not be for me. And then I visited New Orleans and this book was all I could think about - it was just an inexplicable feeling, like... dizzying nihilism? And now I'm visiting Paris in April, so I'm rereading it on the plane. Like a dessert.
Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin: I read it back in November. I cannot stop thinking about it. The ending made me bawl my eyes out. His writing style is INSANE. Lyrical almost, and some of his turns of phrase I want to tattoo on myself. And I have no tattoos. STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND READ THIS BOOK.
Blackwood Farm by Anne Rice: I'm angry at myself for skipping this book before. No longer allowed.
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley: Read it forever and ever ago, when I was not yet the unapologetically weepy and sensitive creature I am now. Let's give it another try.
No pressure, and you may have been tagged already, but if you want to! @lestcat-de-lioncourt @tulinokkaelain @paintaboveyourbones @thepreachers-son @st-ignatius @iloustat

My boyfriend’s family have goats and chickens on their property. They also grow a ton of herbs like mint, basil, rosemary, dill, and cilantro in pots surrounding their patio. In the garden grows a variety of hot and sweet peppers, hundreds of tomatoes, and a recent addition are the fruit trees.
Every time we visit they give us dozens of eggs. I make a lot egg sandwiches or bake them in my sweets.
The best way to eat them though, is plain, accompanied with salt and pepper, or with sauce guts (which are these hot sauce remnants that have been baked and turned into a flakey topping or snackie.)

It's that time of year again where it gets a little warmer and I remember that Amphibia is a show I very much enjoy thinking about. Have some Anne outfits, as a treat <3
If you would like to see what aspect of headcanon/ au worldbuilding had consumed my consciousness like a pestering maggot, feel free to continue below.
Hello! Welcome to I focus on researching one very specific detail until I burn out!
My entire day has been consumed by figuring out how Amphibia's farming works. Like... amphibians are carnivores why do they have farms?
Well, I'll tell you why! The Plantars grow animal feed for predominantly crickets but also others such as silkworms, spiders, snails, etc. They grow produce like cabbage, mushrooms, parsnips, potatoes, dandelions, and turnips as well as heartfruit, a fruit not found on Earth.
In the past, the original amphibian hunter/gatherer societies found that mealworms were attracted to fallen heartfruit, among others. They began to use this knowledge to make traps and eventually began both containing the worms as well as growing the fruit.
Despite mealworms historical prominence in the farming and feeding of Amphibia, crickets are more popular nowadays due to their higher levels of protein. They also began growing a larger variety of produce to further increase efficiency.
Heartfruit is a kind of tree grown fruit with the color of a raspberry, size of a kumquat, and shape of a peach (hence the name). The Plantar's orchard is the only producer of this fruit as its traditionally significant but not necessary for frog kind. They are Anne's personal favorite of the Plantar's produce, being chalk full of nutrients and somehow feels nostalgic to her.
Speaking of Anne, she survives mostly on the Plantar's produce along with cricket meat (knowing that she can at least eat crickets).
After discovering that the amphibians hibernate, she begins to plant pole beans, blueberries, elderberries, and other produce and herbs in her greenhouse to cultivate while she forages and stockpiles for winter. She preps and stores wild rice, pecans, and sunflower seeds (discovered through trial and error). She keeps spare root veggies and other product in the basement. The Plantars help her do this, once they understand the situation, drying heartfruit and salting and smoking fish as well as making jerky out of bugs that they know she can have.
Anne's gonna learn to survive, even if the first winter is especially hard.

I was tagged by the indomitable-not-abominable @renmackree to pick a random image from my camera roll. Most of it is comprised of animals or landscapes, but this one is an "accidental dick pic" of my sister, that she took of herself while she was trying to capture yet another view of one of our favorite places, the salt marsh. Fun fact: I either come up with a lot of my fic ideas or write them out while I'm in the swamp.

If they would like to participate, then I have tags for @dear-massacre @nerdherderette @oldefashioned @ice-mage and @vmures

DMing is great because you get to coordinate a silly little game where your silly little friends get to be silly little fantasy characters and it's amazing. But you also have to faces the horrors and by the horrors I mean writing on a weekly basis and I don't think human minds are made to do such a thing.

“For Now,” Phases of the Moon Knight (Vol. 1/2024), #4.
Writer: Fabian Nicieza; Penciler and Inker: Moisés Hidalgo; Colorist: Fer Sifuentes-Sujo; Letterer: Cory Petit
#Marvel#Marvel comics#Phases of the Moon Knight#Moon Knight comics#latest release#Moon Knight#Nakia Hunam#coming out swinging criticizing both the bourgeoisie AND populism is a bold choice#but gosh there’s just a lot of biting commentary here in general of both colonialism and the colonized#I refuse to dig and see what kind of wild takes people are making about this story but I can bet it’s made people uncomfortable#probably raised questions of who gets to make such criticism#because yeah we can all agree that colonial kidnapping of great artifacts is a travesty#cough cough the British Museum being the most infamous offender cough cough cough#but I have seen (not saying I endorse it) push back saying that by painting colonial powers as solely swooping in#and stealing artifacts negates the active role some members of the colonized population had in the industry#which some people feel is patronizing and creates an over-simplified view of history#other people still will push back against THAT by saying the economic power imbalance between colonized#and colonizer inevitably leads to the latter taking advantage of the former including in the archeological industry#I’ve seen some parallels with the environmental question#a colonizing power will come in and raze the land/extract wealth in minerals and ancient treasures#then a century later turn around criticize formerly colonized countries for clearing land for farming or trafficking artifacts#with some representatives of the latter saying «you ruined us now it’s our turn to try and do what we can to develop»#there’s also something there about formerly colonized countries with rich histories losing irreplaceable goods due to political instability#with a history of colonization not being able to be discounted as a major contributor to that instability#anyway it’s a tough topic and as per always please take my ramblings with the biggest grain of salt you’ve ever seen#what I do know is I would love for Nakia and Layla and Marlene (maybe even the Moon Knight What If..? version?) to have tea together

*the next time V goes to the community center, the fish tank is mysteriously fixed with a note*
"Aye V, sorry about the night before you got out of the clinic. Your basement floor might smell like sea salt for a bit."
*there is no signature*

... at least it was in the basement, I guess. And hey, there's less work to carry on my back.
