★ Salman Khan: Not a fan of fad workouts popular among young gen!
February 10, 2022
As little as 20 years ago, apart from establishing his foothold in Bollywood, a young Salman Khan also enjoyed dominance in another sphere — being the man with the best body in the industry. Over the years, as chiselled figures became more the norm than an advantage in Bollywood, so did an array of ‘fitness trends’, some of which did more harm than good. The most common one gave weightage to weight-lifting, and seemingly frowned upon cardiovascular exercises. This, among many others, is a notion Khan never ascribed to.
“Salman will do cardio every day, without fail. He developed the habit at a young age, when he was also a national-level swimmer. He starts his day with an hour-long session before moving on to weight training. We walk long distances in his farms, and also take to hiking sessions that last for two hours,” says Rakesh Udiyar, who came under Khan’s fold in 2010 after he enabled him to reduce his bulky frame acquired for Veer, and got him fighting fit for Bodyguard.
It was around this time that Khan had revealed his battle with the nerve disorder, trigeminal neuralgia. Udiyar is certain that Khan would have been a heavy weight-lifter until then, when the doctors said it was imperative that his training format didn’t cause a spike in his blood pressure. “Salman is a conscious lifter. He moved from lifting heavy weights to moderate ones. We focus on volume sets, which implies that we perform 10-12 variations of exercises, executing five sets of each, and performing 20 reps. I remember how painful that phase was for him. As we focused on cardio, during Dabangg, he, Sonakshi [Sinha] and others would walk from Wai to Panchgani.”
Udiyar employed techniques like time under tension, and eccentric and concentric lengthening variations during lifting sessions. “Salman’s structure is such that even if he does partial reps, his muscles get pumped. When he trains [consistently] he develops muscle mass easily. Also, we want him to look fresh on screen. Exercise isn’t only suited for weight-loss. It makes you look good, and your skin look young. If you follow a good diet for several years, that’s the best thing that you can do for yourself.”
Thirty-five years since he commenced exercising, Khan continues to attain knowledge about adopting healthier practices. Udiyar says apart from a team of doctors and experts, Khan also has access to friends in the USA, who keep him abreast with best practices. In an email interview, Khan shares, “When I started out, I was enthusiastic and impatient, and got many things wrong. I had no knowledge or guidance, but I practiced, trained and kept updating myself. I was, am, and I will remain a student. The older that one grows, the tougher it gets [to maintain] the metabolic rate. You lose speed, strength, and enthusiasm. So, I exercise every day, listen to my body, and also appreciate anyone with a good body. I want to compete with that person, in a healthy manner. That helps me grow and stay fit.”
While Khan constantly seeks knowledge in the health and fitness space, he isn’t one to ascribe to the current fads. “I’m not a believer of such workouts or extreme dieting trends that I see common with the current [lot]. My workouts are simple and result-oriented. I am disciplined and consistent, which are crucial to attaining a healthy body. I know my body and what works for it. This has become possible only after years of training under the guidance of experts. Be attentive to yourself and focus. Usually, people work on their strengths. But you should work on your weakness too. Visualise what you want to achieve, and work towards it consistently,” he says, adding that he trains mindfully to avoid injuries.
Udiyar credits Khan for being watchful about his diet. “When he needs to do a body-shot, he becomes more particular. He sticks to eggs, fish, and vegetables, and adopts a four-meal plan, comprising foods like lettuce, chicken and roti. If he’s travelling and can’t access home-cooked meals, he is more watchful. More often than not, he likes to eat food prepared by his mom, and has lunch with his father. On his cheat day, he eats his mom’s biryani.”
600 Approximate no. of repetitions Khan executes in an exercise session

10 Most Shocking And Controversial Scandals Involving These Bollywood Stars We Bet You Didn’t Know About
Everyone knows it, hears about it but still no one speaks up and if someone tries too then that person is restrained. Well, Bollywood has always been blamed for being affected by casting-couch syndrome and there are many stories in which powerful and renowned people in the industry ask for sexual favors from a newcomer irrespective of the gender. However, in past few years, several Bollywood actors such as Ranveer Singh, Ayushmann Khurrana, Radhika Apte, Kalki Koechlin, and Sameera Reddy had revealed that they had been victim to the casting couch and have even shared their experiences.Meanwhile, we can’t put full blame on Bollywood itself as it seems that the problem is prevalent in Hollywood and also in different parts of the world which is proved after the beginning of a Me Too movement. To the uninitiated, MeToo , is a movement against sexual harassment and sexual assault which had spread virally in October 2017 as a hashtag used on social media platforms with an objective of demonstrating the widespread prevalence of sexual harassment.Tarana Burke, a social activist had started this movement in 2006 while actress Alyssa Milano took the initiative to encourage the movement with a hastag #MeToo in 2017.Talking about the B-town stars, it was very shocking to know that these actors and popular celebrities were involved in Extramarital affairs, casting couches, and MMS clips. While some escaped others saw their careers get ruined. Now, we would like to share some undisclosed dark secrets, and scandals related to these Bollywood stars.1. Later, CINTAA too apologized to Tanushree and accepted that the “chief grievance of sexual harassment wasn’t even addressed in 2008 and added that since the case was more than 3 years old, they couldn’t reopen it.After Hollywood, Tanushree Dutta’s accusations is now termed as the beginning of the Me Too movement in the Indian film industry. Race 3 movie review: Salman Khan delivers an Eid treat for his fans but the film fails to do justice to the franchise
The Race franchise always seemed to be India’s answer to the slick, mind-boggling films Hollywood churned out every year. With betrayal as its central theme, both Race and Race 2 delivered when it came to twists and turns that would make you do a double take on everything that you believed in. With some crazy action sequences and hot dance numbers thrown into the mix, the films in the franchise looked uber cool and stylish. But with Race 3, things are all set to change. Not only does the latest film in the franchise have a spanking new cast, it also has a new director in the form of choreographer-turned-filmmaker Remo D’Souza. Now Abbas Mustan’s style of filmmaking is completely different to how Remo makes his film. This obviously had us stoked about the film already. Plus, with Salman Khan headlining the cast, we were excited beyond measure to see how he handles the characters in the film, since they are known to have shades of gray. The film released in both 2D and 3D formats. We caught the first day first show of the film in the 3D format to experience Bhai love at its purest and here’s what we thought of the film…
What’s it about
Shamsher Singh (Anil Kapoor) is a patriarch and at the helm of affairs of a family run business. Now details of this business, which is their business and none of our business, has been aptly kept vague. Coming back to the story, Shamsher has powerful connections and even more powerful enemies, one of whom is Rana (Freddy Daruwala). But he also has his loyals. His family comprises of his brother’s son, Sikander (Salman Khan), who also happens to be his most trusted aide. And then there’s his own twins, son Sooraj (Saqib Saleem) and daughter Sanjana (Daisy Shah), who hate the fact that Sikander is such a hit with their father and also one sharing their property. Yash (Bobby Deol) is Sikandar’s bestie-cum-bodyguard or is he? So while they get on a hard disk chase, to gain some mileage with the politicians, they are also fighting against each other. There is a wild heist, some mercenaries, a lot of romance and countless flashbacks interspersed in the narrative. Jessica (Jacqueline Fernandez), who disguises as a con-woman, also ends up becoming a part of the family, or whatever is left of it. By the time the film ends, there is also the promise of a sequel. However, as to who will be Sikander aka Sikku in the next film, is still kept a mystery. In that sense, Race 3 will leave you with a lot of questions.
What’s hot
Salman Khan’s swag. The actor ensures that every time he signs on the dotted line, he makes the film his. Same is the case with Race 3. His entry scene, where he is skydiving from atop a high-rise only to land directly into the enemy’s den, fetched a round of applause, whistles and lots of cheers. And I was watching the film in a multiplex…Such is the power of Salman! Right from the time when he fights goons wearing a three-piece suit to the time when he fights Bobby Deol bare-bodies, Salman has ensured his fans have enough reasons to watch the film on repeat. He is looking way too good while doing this too, thanks to his signature swag and Ashley Rebello and his sister, Alvira Khan’s styling. His chemistry with Jacqueline is just as sizzling as it was in their last outing together, making us wish we could see more of them. Apart from Salman, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol, too, impress with how good they look on screen. While Anil is great as the grieving uncle who has a lot of skeletons in the closet, Bobby, who is playing Salman’s friend and aide, is also in top form. The girls – Daisy and Jacqueline – are impressive, both when they dance and fight. At one point in time they even dance fight, but let’s not get there. Talking about dance, all the songs in the film are visual delights, which is hardly a surprise.
What’s not
The story of the film, we felt, doesn’t do justice to the earlier films in the franchise. Race was always about the mind games but the third film in the franchise is all about loving your family. Really? There is a point in the film when we started wondering if perhaps we had bought the tickets for a Rajshri film instead of a film that was once the epitome of betrayal. While there are ample twists and turns in the film, they don’t throw us off. We see it coming. Blame it on how all the twists are bundled up together – as if till a certain time, the scriptwriters had forgotten they had to introduce a twist and then they had to cram it all together. Race and Race 2 made us bite our nails off trying to figure out as to who to side with. Here we see Salman being such a loyal family man, that our loyalties lie with him throughout the film. He is our hero! No surprises there. What is surprising, however, is the way the film indulges its actors. It has allowed them to make a portfolio out of it. Both Jacqueline and Daisy have been given copious amount of screen time to display their dancing prowess and action chops, all while wearing thigh-high slit gowns and illegally high heels. Salman and Bobby’s torsos, too, receive lavish screen time to glisten and quiver their best. Honestly, it all feels rather forced. Even the action and chase sequences that are so long-drawn, you will be yawning away, enjoying a nap, and waking up just in time to watch it conclude. There are very few 3D elements in the film to warrant a conversion. Only if you want to feel glass shards flying in your face or Daisy kicking you, watch the 3D version.
What to do
Race 3 is a treat for Salman fans but it ends at being just that. There is no reason why you shouldn’t buy the tickets to watch Salman Khan doing what he does best. But if you go in expecting to watch the third film of the Race franchise, you might not be too pleased with the way it has been treated.

10 Famous Celebs Who Have Committed Murder
Celebs, they’re truly just like the rest of us. They eat, drink, and oh, sometimes they kill people. Most times it’s a car accident, and every once in a while, it’s a deliberate murder. Here are 10 celebs who have killed people:
1. Sid Vicious
In 1978, Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious and his girlfriend Nancy Spungen epitomized the sex, drugs, and rock and roll lifestyle. Then, on the night of October 11, 1978, Spungen was found dead, stabbed in stomach.
youtube
Vicious claimed at first that he’d found her that way, but he later admitted to stabbing her in the stomach. He was charged with murder, but he never stood trial, however. He died of a drug overdose while out on bail.
2. Matthew Broderick
Can you see innocent-faced Matthew Broderick as a killer? Neither can we, but the facts are that the one-time Ferris Bueller star killed a pair of people in 1987.
Both Broderick and his girlfriend at the time, Jennifer Gray, were vacationing in Ireland when he mistakenly drove onto the wrong side of the road and smashed into an incoming car. The car’s driver and passenger. Anna Gallagher, 28, and her mother, Margaret Doherty, 63, were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Broderick was initially charged with causing death by dangerous driving and faced up to five years in prison, but was eventually convicted of careless driving and fined $175

3. Venus Williams
Another star that had a fatal accident was tennis icon Venus Williams. In June 2017, Williams was in Palm Beach, Florida, driving her Toyota Sequoia SUV when another car crashed into hers at an intersection.

youtube
The car’s driver, Linda Barson, survived, but her passenger, her 78-year-old husband, Jerome Barson, later died at the ICU. Williams was initially suspected of turning into the intersection without right of way, but was later cleared of any wrongdoing after authorities obtained a surveillance video that showed she wasn’t at fault.

4. Brandy
Former pop princess Brandy Norwood was part of a multi-car collision that left a mother of two dead and her children injured.  On December  30, 2006,  Norwood lost control of her Land Rover on the 405 freeway in Los Angeles when a nearby car swerved into hers.

youtube
She slammed into a Toyota Corolla driven by Awatef Aboudihaj, a 38-year-old wife and mother who later died. Aboudihaj’s two children, who were also in the car, had minor injuries and made a full recovery. Brandy was reportedly devastated by her part in the accident.
She eventually reached a settlement with Aboudihaj’s widower, which wasn’t made public.
5. Don King
Legendary fight promoter Don King killed not one, but two men. The first was an accident, King killed a man trying to break into his place of business. In 1954, King shot Hillary Brown in the back when the man tried to break into one of his gambling houses. The incident was deemed a justifiable homicide.
The next death, however, was not so innocent. King stomped his employee Sam Garrett to death. Why? Because Garrett owed him $600. King was convicted of second-degree murder, but the judge lowered his conviction to non-negligent manslaughter, which meant King received only four years prison for his violent crime.
To make matters worse, Cleveland named the street where King killed Garrett Don King Way.
Only in America.

6. Caitlyn Jenner
Caityln Jenner has been everywhere recently, ever since she came out as being transgender. Not all of her attention has been positive, however. In February 2015, Jenner was involved in a fatal multiple-vehicle collision.
She rear-ended a car on the Pacific Coast Highway in California, slamming it into traffic, where it was then bulldozed by an incoming car.

youtube
The other car’s driver, Kim Howe, an animal rights activist and actress, was killed, and seven other people gravely injured. Devastated, Jenner released a statement saying,
My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident. It is a devastating tragedy, and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them. I will continue to cooperate in every way possible.

7. Salman Khan
Bollywood actor Salman Khan is one of the biggest stars in the world, although he is a virtual unknown in the United States. He’s also killed people.
In 2002, he drove his car into a group of people sleeping in front of a bakery, killing one person and injuring three others. Khan was reportedly under the influence of alcohol. 13 years after the crime, he was finally convicted of culpable homicide and sentenced to five years in jail.

8. Snoop Dogg
We all know Snoop is a master of the rap and the cooking game, but did you know he was also once on trial for murder?
Snoop and his bodyguard McKinley Lee were charged with of conspiracy to commit assault in the case of the August 1993 death of Philip Woldemariam.

youtube
On October 25, 1993, Snoop and Lee went to the Woodbine Park section of L.A. to talk to a man who’d had an earlier confrontation with a friend of Snoop’s.  Woldemariam, 20, an Ethiopian immigrant, reached for his gun as he approached Snoop’s car. Lee fired two shots at him and then fled the scene with Snoop.
Woldemariam later died.
Johnny Cochran tried the case and Snoop was cleared of all charges, although he spent months on house arrest.
Snoop credits the case with forcing him to change his ways.

9. Aaron Hernandez
On June 17, 2013, Odin Lloyd, a linebacker for a New England Football League (NEFL) semi-professional team called the Boston Bandits was found shot to death in  North Attleborough, Massachusetts.
Suspicion soon fell on Aaron Hernandez, a professional football player who had accused Lloyd of breaking his trust.

youtube
According to First Assistant District Attorney Bill McCauley Hernandez “drove the victim to the remote spot, and then he orchestrated his execution.”
Hernandez  was found guilty of first degree and sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole, but was later acquitted. He committed suicide in 2017, and was found to have severe CTE.

10. OJ Simpson
One of the most famous celebrity murders and the subject of numerous documentaries, films and other projects was the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman, presumably by her husband, football hero OJ Simpson.
youtube
On June 12, 1994, Nicole and Goldman were discovered stabbed to death outside Nicole’s condo in Brentwood, a posh area of Los Angeles. Simpson was a person of interest and led police on a low-speed pursuit in a white Ford Bronco SUV. The trial was one of the most sensational in American history.
Simpson was represented by Johnny Cochran and acquitted of the murder charges, although he later went to prison on an unrelated armed robbery and kidnapping charge.

DESPITE PADMAVATI CONTROVERSIAL ‘DELAY’, DEEPIKA SOLELY PROMOTES THE FILM!
Tumblr media
Padmavati release date voluntarily deferred, confirms Viacom 18, but Deepika shows no signs of slowing down!
It has been a tough ride for team Padmavati till now. With countless threats pouring in from the Karni Sena to ban the film, the Central Board of Certification (CBFC) expressing its displeasure on the pre-screening of the film to selected journalists and religious outfits’ outrageous outpour against the historical drama, one woman is single-handedly running the show. Deepika Padukone in the truest sense is living up to her courageous character of Rani Padmini from the film. With the breaking announcement of Padmavati‘s release being deferred, Deepika shows no sign of slowing down and is holding the baton for the film’s promotions.

The actress was today seen at Mumbai’s domestic airport taking a chartered flight to Vijayawada, where she is a part of  India’s first Social Media Summit Awards (SMSA). The two-day event is ongoing at a convention center in Vijayawada, and Deepika is among the guests of honor at the do.

Last night, the feisty actress went on  Bigg Boss 11 stage where she danced to Ghoomar and promoted the film alongside host Salman Khan.

That is not all. Despite receiving death threats from the Shri Rajput Karni Sena, Deepika’s promotional bandwagon is unstoppable. Accompanied by Mumbai Police allotted security personnel and bodyguards, Deepika is leaving no stone unturned to fill in the shoes of Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, the other two lead actors, who are nowhere to be seen promoting their mega-budget film.

Just like her character of the warrior princess ‘Mastani’ in Bhansali’s Bajirao Masatni, Deepika’s spirit is unbreakable. Holding her head high, epitomizing the values of the fierce Rajput Rani Padmini, Deepika is fighting her battle against all odds, with no fear!

Tubelight: What Happens When Salman Khan And Kabir Khan Disagree?
Tumblr media
While speaking in Mumbai, Salman Khan said, “If it’s black and white then there is no discussion. If he is on another platform and I am on another platform, then there is no debate. But that does not happen”
Before Tubelight, actor Salman Khan and director Kabir Khan made two films together – Ek Tha Tiger (2012) and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015). Both the films were super-hits and Tubelight is expected to break box office records. Before Ek Tha Tiger, Salman starred in a string of commercial masala films like Bodyguard (2011), Ready (2011) and Dabangg (2010). Kabir comes from a documentary filmmaking background – he started with Kabul Express (2006). They may be as different as chalk and cheese but Salman Khan and Kabir Khan are considered one of Bollywood’s most bankable director-actor pairs. But what happens when they disagree while filming a scene?
While speaking to a journalist in Mumbai, Salman Khan said, “If it’s black and white then there is no discussion. If he is on another platform and I am on another platform, then there is no debate. But that does not happen. Because of the sensibilities, you say this is white, and this is off white. Sometimes I pull back, at times he does. He will tell me we have to put some logic in information scenes then I say these are facts all Indians know. For e.g. If we are going to Pakistan to leave Munni (scene from Bajrangi Bhaijaan) now I understand that we have to show the journey. If there is a scene where the actor has to take a flight to London, so I feel it should just be a ‘take off and landing’ shot and not the journey.”
Kabir Khan told NDTV.com it doesn’t take much time for him and Salman to get on to the same page, “It’s a straightforward process either he convinces me, or I convince him. I feel that’s a great way to go forward. It’s also important that actors come with their take on the scene, it shows the involvement. If an actor doesn’t come up with their inputs, I would feel that they aren’t that involved in the film. Because we discuss the script at length before we start shooting it doesn’t take much time to come back on the same page.”
Tubelight, Kabir and Salman’s third film, is set against the 1962 war with China. Salman’s brother Sohail Khan plays the actor’s screen sibling, a soldier who goes missing in the fighting. The film also stars Matin Rey Tangu, an eight-year-old child artiste from Arunachal Pradesh, and Chinese actress Zhu Zhu. Tubelight released on 23rd June, ahead of Eid.

Part 3: ★ Highest Grosser of The Year from 1990 to 2020: Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan dominate, as Hrithik Roshan climbs the ladder!
Dec 29, 2020
In the first part of the highest grosser of the year series, Bollywood Hungama did an in-depth analysis of the actors with maximum highest grossing film of the year spanning 73 years from 1947 to 2020. While Salman Khan was crowned the biggest Bollywood superstar since independence with 10 highest grossers of the year, Dilip Kumar bagged the second spot with 9 films in the list, whereas Aamir Khan was third with 7 films in the list. Shah Rukh Khan on the other hand had 5 films in the list, while Hrithik Roshan was fast climbing the ladder of success with 4 highest grossers of the year in merely 20 years span. The top three stars contributed 26 of the total 73 highest grossers of the year, which in percentage terms is 35%. In the second part of the series, we came up with a detailed decade by decade analysis of stars fighting for the top spot in the respective decades from 1957 to 1989. Now, in the third and final part of this Bollywood Hungama exclusive, we are back with the number crunching analysis from 1990 till 2020. Interestingly, in a span of these 31 years (From 1989 till 2020), the three Khans – Salman Khan (10), Aamir Khan (7) and Shah Rukh Khan (5) – in total delivered 22 highest grossers of the year, whereas Hrithik Roshan delivered 4 more, leaving just 5 spots in three decades for some 25 plus actors of the industry to score the biggest hit of the year. Here’s a 3-decade analysis
1990 to 1999: Sunny Deol, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan take charge
In terms of sheer box-office pull, this decade was dominated by three names – Sunny Deol, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, though Anil Kapoor and Govinda too were going strong in terms of hit count this decade. While Deol delivered one highest grosser of the year this decade in Border, he maintained his supremacy with constant flow of releases. Ghayal (1990) too managed to surpass the collections of Dil, if we take reruns into account, taking his total to two films.
Salman on the other hand rose like a phoenix with Maine Pyaar Kiya (1989) and followed it up with three other highest grossers of the year in the 90s – Saajan, Hum Aapke Hai Koun and Hum Saath Saath Hain.
Shah Rukh Khan was the biggest find of the 90s, particularly for the kind of consistency he showed at the box-office – both in terms of opening as well as lifetime collections. He delivered two highest grossers of the year in the 90s – Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. He became a superstar within two years of arriving in the industry, and with every passing year, bettered his standing. As the 90’s came to an end, the trade already started to label Shah Rukh Khan alongside legends like Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar. In-fact, in times to come, he became the biggest superstar India has ever seen in the overseas market (more on this later). Though Salman has a lead in terms of HGOTY in the 90s, the consistency gave Shah Rukh an edge over him for the top spot of 90s, with him and Sunny following suit. However, in terms of highest grossers of the year, Salman scored big, and without any doubts, it was in the 90s itself that he cemented his position as a superstar as he had some solid openers, massive blockbusters and big grossers under his kitty within 10 years in the industry. Sunny Deol on the other hand saw the lead in terms of sheer raw mass fan following in the 90s. Anil Kapoor and Govinda too had one HGOTY year in Beta (1992) and Aankhen (1993).
2000 to 2009: Shah Rukh Khan’s supremacy challenged by Hrithik Roshan
This decade saw a major turnaround of things, as Shah Rukh continued to scale new heights in the beginning, whereas Salman Khan was seeing a slight downfall due to controversies in the personal space, whereas Aamir Khan had taken a break from acting due to some issues in personal life following his divorce. While everyone thought that Shah Rukh Khan will be undisputed number one star of 00’s, there came Hrithik Roshan to challenge the supremacy and following the release of Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai, there was no looking back for him. He became a superstar overnight and just the second actor after Salman to make his debut with a highest grosser of the year. Till date, Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai is considered the biggest launch vehicle for a Bollywood actor, and one had to witness the euphoria surrounding Hrithik post his debut, to believe it. It marked the arrival of a superstar, probably the last of Hindi cinema. In the first seven years of this decade, Shah Rukh Khan delivered three highest grossers of the year in Devdas (2002), Veer Zaara (2004) and Om Shanti Om (2007), whereas Hrithik Roshan too had three highest grossers of the year in Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai (2000), Koi Mil Gaya (2003) and Dhoom 2 (2006). In-fact, in 2006, the top 2 grossers of the year (Dhoom 2 and Krrish) belonged to Hrithik. Towards the decade end, Aamir made a comeback and delivered back-to-back HGOTY in Ghajini (2008) and 3 Idiots (2009). Salman and Sunny Deol had one HGOTY each in No Entry and Gadar, with latter being the biggest grosser of all time in India. Akshay too was strong for a period of 3 years between 2006 and 2008, with back-to-back hits and bumper openers, however, none of his releases could find a place in the prestigious list of highest grosser of the year, and till date, though a major film star, he awaits his turn to open his account in this aspect. The decade belonged to Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan.
2010 to 2020: The Salman Khan Era, with some cameo’s by Aamir Khan
It would not be wrong to say that the decade of 2010 to 2019 belonged to Salman Khan as the superstar delivered five highest grosser of the year – Dabangg (2010), Bodyguard (2011), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), along with three second highest grosser of the year – Ready (2011, overlapping with Bodyguard), Kick (2014) and Sultan (2016) – indicating that 7 of the 10 years belonged to him, an unheard phenomenon in Bollywood history, easily putting him in the list of all-time greats.
Aamir comes at the third spot with three highest grossers of the year, which all proved to be all time grossers – Dhoom 3 (2013), PK (2014) and Dangal (2016). 8 of the 10 years belonged to these two mighty Khans, dominating like no other decade post-Independence. Hrithik Roshan took the tally of his highest grosser of the year to 4 films with War becoming the highest grosser of 2019. He is just a film away to tie with Raj Kapoor, Dharmendra and Shah Rukh Khan, and all this within a period of 20 years. Ranbir Kapoor opened his account this decade with his first highest grosser of the year with Sanju (2018), and Ajay Devgn too, after an illustrious career of over 25 years, delivered his first highest grosser of the year with Tanhaji (2020).
To put the last 3 decades in a nutshell, Salman Khan (10 films) + Aamir Khan (7 films) + Shah Rukh Khan (5 films) topped the year 22 times since 1989, whereas Hrithik topped it 4 times since 2000 – Putting these 4 as the top 4 stars of Hindi cinema since the new millennium aka 2000. While the three Khans have at most 5 more years to continue as leading heroes until they reach the age of 60, Hrithik still has ample of gas left in his tank to keep climbing the ladder, and aim at the sky. Salman, Aamir and Shah Rukh can add a film or two more to their kitty and in the years to come. Given the current pattern of working adapted by the actors, it would be near impossible for anyone to reach the double-digit mark in terms of highest grosser of the year and dethrone Salman from the top spot with 10 films at the moment, which is highest for any actor in history of Hindi cinema. Aamir, with 7 films as biggest grosser of the year at present, however can aim at the second spot - a tie with Dilip Kumar, who has ended his career with 9 highest grossers of the year.

★ Tiger Zinda Hai actor Paresh Pahuja aka Azaan says, “Salman Khan’s Karan-Arjun inspired me to be an actor” !
Sumit Rajguru | Jan 01, 2018
Tumblr media
Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Tiger Zinda Hai has now become a blockbuster at the box office as the film has so far collected Rs 254.75 Crore. Well, ever since the film got released, many people have been praising the film, its lead actors, action, supporting cast performances. Among them, there is one actor’s whose acting has not only loved by the critics but also his patriotic character of Azaan has directed connected to people’s heart.
Yes, we are talking about newcomer Paresh Pahuja who has debuted with Tiger Zinda Hai. His character Azaan, has thought the real meaning of patriotism to the nation. Hence, we couldn’t let him go as recently Sumit Rajguru of Free Press Journal asked him about his overall experience in Tiger Zinda Hai. Moreover, the 26-year-old actor has revealed some interesting incidents of his life.
Let’s take a look what he has said –
How was your experience debuting in Bollywood with Tiger Zinda Hai?
First of all Bollywood is a dream and it was a dream for me also. The experience has been beautiful because of the first film that too with Yash Raj, that too with Salman Khan, that too with Katrina Kaif and that to a film which has already become a blockbuster. So, this like a life-changing moment for me. It was wonderful.
Tell us how you got the role of Azaan in Tiger Zinda Hai?
I got the role of Azaan through audition. I was auditioned by the casting director Shanoo Sharma who had seen one of my ads. Thus, she called me and she gave me a scene. First of all, they never told me about which film is it, what is it. Then, first round they gave me a scene, second round they gave me another scene and then one day she called me and said you are locked for the film. I was like which film then she said this is for Tiger Zinda Hai. I went and read the script. I also asked them few questions. After that, I was locked. Later, we came and did a lot of training as I played sniper in the film. Then, I started shooting. 4th May was first day my of the shoot.
Describe your experience of the first shot with Salman Khan?
It was beautiful. It was the shot that we were waiting for. But I was a little nervous because the ‘Salman Khan’ was in front of him. There was Paresh Rawal, Kumud Mishra, Angad Bedi and I was the only new person in the team. So, I was very evidently quite nervous. So, we did that shot. But before the shot, I asked Salman sir’s bodyguard that what’s the time. Then, Salman sir said why? I said, sir, it is my first film’s first shot and I just want to make a note of it. (laughs) Then, we did that shot and we came back and I saw Salman sir was sitting at the monitor and we were checking the shot. Suddenly he gets up and hugs me after seeing the shot. I felt that that was beautiful and he made me very comfortable, throughout the journey. My first interaction with him was very warm and loving and very caring.
Has the role of Azaan taught you something?
That’s a very interesting question. Nobody has asked me this (laughs). Azaan has taught me how to take pride in my country, how to be optimistic about my country and appreciate the good things and work on the things which can be improved. Azaan is someone who is so patriotic. Despite all this, he believes in humanity, he believes in a good side of things and believes in that country needs to have some kind of faith and need to work on a little bit on it. I spoke with a lot of army guys also and I asked them. In fact, I shared a post on my Facebook wall which is now viral. I asked them, how do you feel patriotic? How do you feel for the country? Because you know you are at the border fighting for what reason because every war is nothing but politics. Every war is just created to make these fancy weapon making companies. Because, if there is no war then how will they sell their weapon. So, that was my battle inside that how do you feel for the country. They said if you don’t then they will be like who’ll do it, there will be nothing left then people will be killed and the civilisation will be gone. So, somebody has to protect it, defend it and keeping their life at cost of their sacrifice. We still live in a country where we are free to talk, free to do things, dress up the way we want to. We have social media. In a country which is communist or based on religious bias where you have to wear certain kind of clothes, have to so much in restrictions. China has only their internet that they don’t know what is happening in the world. North Korea doesn’t know what is happening in the world, because their internet also has limitations. We underestimate that living in India, we don’t value it. So, Azaan taught me that you need to respect the freedom that you have. The value and everything the country has given you. That’s been an eye opening experience for me.
How did you get inclined to acting?
Oh, that’s another interesting question (laughs)! I did theatre in college and I remember the first experience watching a film in the theatre was Karan Arjun. I was very young, about 5 to 6 years old and my parents took me to watch Karan Arjun. And, it had a great impression on me and I thought Karan Arjun is like me and my brother and we used to scream a lot like ‘Bhaag Arjun Bhaag’ (laughs). Then, slowly I realised that I’m more inclined towards acting then I went to S.M. Patel Institute of Commerce, Ahmedabad and started doing theatre. I did youth festivals, dramas in the college where I did everything like participating in singing competitions, one act, skits and many things. College life made me much more expressive, confident and creative person.
Has anything changed in your personal life after Tiger Zinda Hai?
A lot of things! Now, I step down of my building, people recognised me and click pictures with me. I’m getting lot of films and offers after Tiger Zinda Hai.

★ From Dabangg to Tiger Zinda Hai, how Salman Khan rules the box office one mega hit after another !
Seema Sinha | Jan,14 2018
Editor's note: Salman Khan's latest release, Tiger Zinda Hai, became the highest grosser of his career on 14 January. It beat the lifetime collection of Kabir Khan's 2015 Salman starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan to become the fourth highest Bollywood grosser of all time.
With Tiger Zinda Hai raking in excess of Rs 300 crore and still running strong, this is the 11th time in his 29-year-old career that Salman Khan has given the top hit of Bollywood beating all competition hollow. Even if we take out his extended special appearance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), that still leaves him with 10 top grossers of the year in 29 years. This is more than one third of all top grossers since he entered Bollywood.
Maine Pyar Kiya, Saajan, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Hum Saath Saath Hain,  No Entry, Dabangg, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Tiger Zinda Hai — all these were the most watched films of the year. No actor of his generation has the same kind of fan following. No one in Bollywood history has ever enjoyed this kind of popularity. Yes, Dilip kumar, too, had 10 top hits of the year but those were spread over 42 years. Megastars like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan have five each. While an Aamir Khan has seven, five of which came in the last decade only. That explains the immense longevity of Salman’s popularity. What is it that makes Salman different from his contemporaries?
Let us go where it all started. Though son of one of the biggest screen writers, Salim Khan, Salman’s growing up years and his journey in films began during the bad phase of his father after he and Javed Akhtar had separated as writers (Salim-Javed was the finest writing duo the industry has known) and Salim Khan was mostly out of work.
Salman never got a big launch like his contemporaries Aamir Khan of the Nasir Hussain family, who was launched with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, or even ‘outsiders’ like Shah Rukh and Akshay Kumar, who started out in strong central characters in Deewana and Saugandh respectively. Salman, by contrast, started with a side role in a small family drama, Biwi Ho To Aisi, in 1988, in which he played the agile devar (brother-in-law) to Rekha.
It was Salman’s second film, Sooraj Barjatya’s Maine Pyar Kiya, that did the trick for him for which he had to audition alongside the likes of Aditya Pancholi, Rahul Roy and Mamik among few others. The film went on to become an all time blockbuster running for two years, reportedly breaking Sholay’s record and became the biggest hit of the decade of '80s. Soon, girls got their new poster boy who bared his chest and believed in 'dosti mein no sorry, no thank you'.
And then what happened? Well, all the credit went to the film’s heroine, Bhagyashree, and Salman got offered only small films like Baaghi, Sanam Bewafa and Kurbaan. Interestingly, all these films became box office hits with Saajan (1991) being his second top hit of the year within three years of his launch. But once again, the media gave credit for the film’s success to Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt.
Next followed a real bad phase where his films started flopping one after the other. Obituaries were already being written for the career of somebody four years into the business with five hits in his kitty in that period. One magazine went to the extent of saying that Salman was like the Rajesh Khanna phenomenon who after a brief period of glory, never managed to resurrect his career.
And then came Salman’s biggest hit — Hum Aapke Hain Koun in 1994. It beat all the previous records by 500 per cent and became the top hit of the '90s decade. The film went down in history as a blockbuster not only in India but also worldwide. And Salman truly became the eternal Prem. Every Karol Bagh wedding had the boys dressed in mustard colour Hum Aapke Hain Koun suits, every college girl was in love with him and every mom wanted a son-in-law like him.  But once again, media attributed the success to the film’s leading lady, Madhuri Dixit.
Thereafter started a steady stream of hits for the next five years, during which period Salman maintained a huge distance from the media refusing to give interviews or entering into any barter deal with award night organisers to perform free in lieu of an award, rubbing many a publications a wrong way. He had his prize for dancing on stage for even the biggest award in the country and did not care two hoots for their trophies.
Hits after hits followed — Karan Arjun, Jeet, Judwaa, Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya, Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai, Bandhan, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Biwi No 1 and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. By the end of 1999, Salman had accumulated the maximum number of hits in his name amongst all his contemporaries — a total of 13 hits in his career till then.
Next year, a few of his films flopped though he had average success in Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge and Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega. Next year, yet again, he was seen in an average film, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke. So did the following year in Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam. Rest of his films failed and barely on the basis of three years of under performance, the media decided to write him off yet again, for the third time in less than 15 years.
But the superstar was made of sterner stuff. Tere Naam in 2003 ended the drought of hits for Salman. Tere Naam also has a cult following for the actor's performance and haircut in the film. This was followed by Baghban. His special appearance in Baghban brought initial footfall to theatres though Amitabh Bachchan was in the central role. Again hits started trickling in. Mujhse Shaadi Karogi,Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, No Entry, Partner  and Wanted ensured that Salman remained in business, and at the top of his game.
And then the biggest turnaround happened. What was responsible for it, no one knows. Did Salman suddenly turn a new leaf? Did the penetration of multiplexes in smaller cities and towns mean that his hoi-polloi fan following was suddenly paying higher average ticket price (though the footfalls of his movies were always the highest, revenues were less as his films mostly worked better in low-end cinemas and mofussil areas) or burst of social media ensured that people had a voice – and louder than the mainstream media. Fan clubs, fan pages, fan groups of Salman mushroomed online, fighting with fans of other stars to claim Salman’s supremacy even as hits were raining like never before.
Dabangg, Ready, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg 2, Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai have, in the last eight years, ensured the kind of records that will be impossible for another actor to beat in the coming years. Can you imagine the whole of this decade Salman has had just two under performers — Jai Ho and TubeLight — and both have done almost similar business than the highest grossers of most of his contemporaries.
A certain section of baffled media swoops down on every Salman film usually twice a year, tearing it apart, trashing his performance while calling it just a shirtless show, with rare exceptions (Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan). And yet, crores of people throng the theatres to watch his films usually within the first two to three weeks making his film’s recovery the fastest in the business.
No film industry in the world has seen a phenomenon like this ever. An actor, 29 years into the business, at the top of the box office game, owning almost every record in his name and showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. That, for you, is the unstoppable phenomenon called Salman Khan.

★ “You cannot any longer fool the audiences”: Salman Khan !
JYOTHI VENKATESH | June 13, 2017
Tumblr media
You are playing the role of Lakshman Prasad in Tubelight!
Yes. I play the interesting role of Lakshman Prasad whose younger brother goes to fight against the Chinese in the Indo-China war. in the film Tubelight. Basically, it revolves around the emotional relationship between two brothers. I did not need to use glycerin during the emotional scenes since my real life brother Sohail Khan is playing my brother in Tubelight too.
Is the film Tubelight a rip off from the film Little Brother?
Tube light is not an exact Xerox copy of Little Brother. I have not seen the film but Kabir Khan who had seen the film was inspired by it and has focused on the emotional portions of the film and set out to made Tubelight in keeping with the Indian sentiments. Kabir has also seen the ad film on Black Label and also inspired by it. The film is set in the backdrop of Indio-China war in Kumao regiment in the 60’s.
How did you prepare for your part of Lakshman Prasad in Tubelight?
You would not believe it but I have shaped my character based on two people I know in real life. They are Parvez who is my body double in my films and Mahesh Manjrekar’s son Satya. I asked Mahesh who is my good friend to send to my home his son so that I could observe him at close quarters and imbibe his qualities. He is very simple at heart and innocent.
How important is the story for a film?
My biggest plus point is that I am the son of a writer and hence I have a strong sense of story. If the story is good, even if a film is bad, it will run but if the story is bad a film has no chance of running at all.
You mean to say that you cannot fool the audiences anymore?
Yes. You cannot any longer fool the audiences by packing up a film with action by blowing up fancy cars over the cliff. Only emotion can serve as a connect. We can all go wrong with the end product even if we may end up thinking that we have made yet another Sholay or Moghul E Azam.
How is Zu Zu as an actress?
Zu Zu, who is the leading lady of Tubelight is a hard working and professional actress from China. Her name is pronounced as Ju Ju
Is Shah Rukh Khan giving a special appearance in Tubelight?
Yes. Shah Rukh Khan has been very generous and kind enough to agree to do a guest appearance in Tubelight. All that I can divulge at the moment about his role is that he plays the biggest turning point in the film Tubelight.
What was your reaction when you saw the trailer of Tubelight?
I became emotional when I saw the trailer for the first time when Amar Butala, the CEO of my company showed it to me. I still miss Omji with whom I have acted in several films. I have lost my colleagues like VK Sir, Omji and Reemaji in the recent four months this year.
Is it true that you had started your career by joining director Shashilal Nair as his assistant?
Yes. My dad had asked me to assist director Shashilal Nair when he was making the Jackie Shroff starrer Falak, because he felt that I would not be able to click in Hindi films as an actor and didn’t want me to experience the heart breaks which he had experienced as a struggling actor. However, luckily for me, his fears proved to be unfounded and today I am busy as a star.
You are now the Czar among the stars whose films have crossed the coveted 100 cr, with films like Ready, Bodyguard, Dabangg, Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg 2, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Sultan. How do you feel being a part of the league?
My filmi funda is very simple. Every film will not necessarily cross the 100 cr league just because I am in it. If a film is bad, it will definitely not cross the 100 cr plus mark. It is not easy but it is achievable now, if a film is good. It was difficult to believe that a film can gross 100 cr plus five years back but now it is quite possible.
Can we hail you as the Rajanikant of Bollywood?
Though I love Rajinikanth, I would not at all hesitate to state that if I reach anywhere close to him I will be really happy, considering the kind of person that he is.
What is your take on success?
I have my own pulse. I will succeed only if I believe that my own pulse is that of the audiences. As Salman Khan, I have become a megalomaniac. If I can deliver as Chulbul Pandey, it is fine but it is bad if I do my role as Salman Khan.
After having acted with established directors like Subhash Ghai, David Dhawan, how easy was it for you to work with a new director like Arbaaz Khan?
In my career, with the exception of Subhashji and David Dhawan, I have worked most of the times with only new directors, whether it was Karan Johar in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Khamoshi, Sajid Nadiadwala in Kick, Siddique in Bodyguard, Abhinav Kashyap in Dabangg, Prabhudheva in Wanted, Anees Bazmee in Ready or Arbaaz Khan in Dabangg 2.
You are a part of Tiger Zinda Hai. How tough is it to come up with a sequel?
It is very difficult to make a sequel. Even in the West, it is only Sylvester Stallion’s sequels to Rocky and Rambo that have done well at the box office. When you set out to make a sequel, you tend to get carried away. If it looks like we deliberately set out to make a comedy, it cannot be similar.
Is there any film in the offing where your father Salim Khan will write the subject?
People ask me why my father is not writing for any film when any director would gladly give his right arm to have a script written by the man who had written legendary films like Deewar and Sholay. I am glad that my father is enjoying his retired phase because frankly I do not think that he has the patience to deal with the directors and the kind of sensibilities that they come with today.
You seem to like action a lot!
To keep myself fit, I want to do action. I would love to do a film of action if it comes with a baggage of emotion. Whether it is an action film or an emotional film, the introductory fight has to be interesting enough to hold you as a viewer. The older you grow, the better you grow as an actor. If action is over, romance is over. I am glad that the kids today call me Salman or Salman Khan and not Salman Uncle. The younger lot of actors today is a superb lot because they come prepared on the sets.
Are you planning to do an out and out action film?
Action alone will be very boring. I’d not like to watch a film if it is not larger than life. It will be difficult to do an out and out action film like Jackie Chan does in film after film
People insist that you interfere with your directors. Is it true?
After Veer, in the interest of my films, I had decided that the final cut of my films will go only with my approval. I feel that what Aamir does is correct. I only hope that I do not take advantage of my stardom when I put my foot down
What next after Tubelight?
I have Sohail’s Sher Khan and also Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kick 2 and will soon start working on Tiger Zinda Hai.I am also all set to do a film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, besides a film on dancing with Remo Fernandez.
What does stardom mean to you?
Stardom means nothing to me. It means that if you can’t take appreciation in the right way, you could be destroyed. It’s also temporary and a difficult thing to handle. Treat success and fame as a fleeting experience because they will leave you feeling bitter, cynical, and angry. So all you can do is enjoy while it lasts. Tomorrow, I might not be here but my trust, BEING HUMAN, will continue. So someone who is as passionate as me about social work will take over. This person will have to show his inclination towards this work and I would gladly make him a part of BEING HUMAN. Today, my name is pulling in the money but what about tomorrow?
Do you believe in the number game?
If the fans come in, the numbers follow. If people like the movie, the numbers will go up. So I don’t concentrate on numbers, I focus on the film instead. Agar aap sirf numbers pe jaaoge, toh phir main cheez bhool jaaoge. Think about the subject and not the marketing of the subject.
How do you feel being Salman Khan?
I have no idea. I feel like I am a part of the aam junta (common people). I guess I’m someone who stands for them, I’m perhaps their voice or someone who they think is needed in that position. They believe that Salman Khan is very approachable and can relate to him. So I think that could be the only connect that they feel there ishere’s a man who wants to live a normal life and not that of a star.
You seem more inclined of late to promote your films in a big way!
Nowadays you have to spend more time to promote films. The new funda is that you need to devote at least 15 days to promote your films. I am game to tie up with corporate for the promotion of any film of mine in future provided they are ready to pay to my NGO Being Human or for needy and poor kids directly without deducting their administrative costs.
Have you thought in terms of taking up direction?
Yes. Though it is true that I take interest in every department of the film in which I am acting, whether it is the subject or the music or the action sequences, I still feel that I am not ready to be the captain of the ship. I do not want to dabble in direction, though I know for a fact that my colleagues like Sunny Deol, Ajay Devgn and Aamir Khan have already dabbled in direction. However, I am game to work with Aamir Khan if he is ready to direct a film with me, provided I get the time to do a film with him
Aamir has declared that he will tie your hands and feet to make you get married!
Yes. I have read somewhere that Aamir wants to make me get married and is ready to tie my hands and feet. I can only retort that I have also decided to tie his hands and feet to see to it that he does not get married a third time in his life. (Grins).

Another star that had a fatal accident was tennis icon Venus Williams. In June 2017, Williams was in Palm Beach, Florida, driving her Toyota Sequoia SUV when another car crashed into hers at an intersection.

Caityln Jenner has been everywhere recently, ever since she came out as being transgender. Not all of her attention has been positive, however. In February 2015, Jenner was involved in a fatal multiple-vehicle collision.
