Oh btw
I showed my brother your Animal wala review since he just watched the film and hated it and he called you 'the G' (he's younger than me)
Thought you'd like to know lol
The generation gap between your brother and me who is I am guessing is 14-16 wala age group, oh my god. 'The G' 😭😭😭. I will always review shitty movies for you little man. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
It is such bad movie, so slow, so boring, horribly edited, bad background music which is so inconsistent, second half is 90 minutes long and nothing happens, horrible fight scenes that have delusions of Oldboy. The main issue, is that the movie is not selling itself like Jawan, or the Salman Khan movies, this is supposed to be deeper, more 'real' but he kills 300 people singlehandedly, and there are no consequences. And people in this country thing that being able to cry and show anger is peak acting. Waiting for him to win Best Actor at national awards, not that they mean anything.

★ Why Salman Khan's Dabangg 3 is for fans, not critics!
December 18, 2019
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan chats with City Times about what fans can expect from his latest film, how he handles criticism and why he enjoys such a mass appeal
For years, his success has defied all odds. Naysayers may question it, but if you happen to be a die-hard Salman Khan fan (is there any other type?), you need no validation. That's the aura of Salman Khan.
When we met the Bollywood superstar in November for his Dabangg: The Tour Reloaded show in Dubai, the actor told us something that probably explains his widespread success in an industry which is fickle when it comes to placing actors on a pedestal.
"We can make the best movies ever but if they (fans) may not like it, then there's no point - it is a bad movie at that point. No matter what the critics say, if you make a bad film, and fans like it then it is the best film ever!" he explained.
That sentiment, is key to understanding the phenomenon called Salman Khan. Having debuted as lead in Sooraj Barjatya's romantic family drama Maine Pyar Kiya in 1989, Khan may have taken time to find his comfort zone in blockbuster action films, but once he found it, he has stayed put. He is not known to experiment much with genres or try his hand at roles, outside his comfort zone. "I'm not looking for awards," he told us, "only rewards, when fans leave the theatre fulfilled."
Over the years, it has only been proved over and over again, that where Salman Khan puts his money, that is where the money flows. Be it Ready, Ek Tha Tiger, Kick, Sultan, Bajrangi Baijhan or his last release Bharat, there is a certain formula that Khan is adept at handling and averse to straying from.
When it comes to a Salman Khan movie, fans don't go to the cinema to watch a character, but rather to gawk at the superstar shining through his on-screen persona.
Back with a bang
The Dabangg movies have minted money for the makers ever since the first one was released in 2010 and introduced us to the swashbuckling, quirky Inspector Chulbul Pandey. Two years later, Khan was back with Dabangg 2, which made more noise at the box office. Seven years and umpteen movies later, the hit-making machine is back with Dabangg 3, with his ever supportive leading lady Sonakshi Sinha, and the added attraction of debutant Saiee Manjrekar (filmmaker/actor Mahesh Majrekar's daughter).
Now Khan, of course, has a reputation for introducing the maximum number of new faces to the industry - be it his Dabangg lead star Sonakshi Sinha, Daisy Shah, Zareen Khan or Sneha Ullal among many others.
The actor admitted to us that it is "very scary" to launch new faces. He confessed that there is the pressure of ensuring "so many new faces should be known faces and recognised and have the longest career..."
But at the same time he stated confidently that, "I have no fear where Saiee (Manjrekar) is concerned or Sonakshi from her first movie to now." "And we are there all the time. For all the people we have launched. in some form or the other...
"We'd never leave the people who we have introduced. Like the way Sooraj Barjatya's has never left me," he continued. Keeping it fresh
Just like its predecessors, Dabangg 3 has all the ingredients for a typical masala movie - item number, catchy dialogues, a Southern Nemesis in the form of Kichcha Sudeep and of course, Salman Khan. Does Khan ever get bored of doing the same old thing again? Not if you go by his career track. During the concert when we asked him how he keeps his energy levels constantly high, his response was insightful and probably applicable to his approach to movies in a career spanning over 30 odd years. "When your hobby turns into your profession, you have all the enthusiasm for it."
Excerpts from a conversation with Salman Khan over the phone ahead of the release of Dabangg 3 in UAE theatres on Thursday, December 19.
Why did you feel the need to come out with Dabangg 3? Was it the success of the franchise, the demand from your fans or did you just get attached to Chulbul Pandey?
When both the films have done so well, why would I not make a sequel? (laughs) Both films had done well and there was a huge demand by the time with people asking; 'When is Dabangg coming?' 'When is Dabangg coming?' We already had the script in mind like how we made Dabangg. But I was stuck with Tiger Zinda Hai and Bharat and some other films which released, so I couldn't give Dabangg time earlier. As soon as I got a window I did Dabangg 3. Dabangg 3 seems to be a masala entertainer much like the first two movies. What is this one's USP though?
It is a lot bigger, a lot larger. Chulbul is more mature, he is more dignified . he is full of quirks, sharing all the right things; he's just a lot larger than what he used to be.
And it is not just a masala movie - its got more hues, it is about good and bad, about nobility, about family values; what's the situation in some people's lives. It deals with dowry, it deals with positivity against negativity...
It deals with a lot of these things - kidnapping, prostitution... The first movie had (handled the theme of) polio; the second one had LIC Policy... You have a unique dancing style. And you make your 'Item Boy' debut with Munna Badnam Hua in this film. Do you enjoy dancing?
(Pause) Yeah, at times, especially when you are getting praised for it and you are getting appreciated for it, I love it!
You enjoy enormous mass appeal, and you can do no wrong in the eyes of your fans. To what do you attribute this appeal?
I attribute this to the eyes of my fans. And then to me! Because they see it that he (Salman) is not doing any wrong. How do you respond to critics? Do you read reviews once your films come out?
Critics? I don't react to them at all. They write good or bad, I don't react. I have just done my hard work, that too, to the best of my ability. If they appreciate it, great. And if they think it is not up to the mark, that's fine. As long as my fans go watch the films, people go enjoy the films, and like it and the numbers are good, I'm fine. My critic is the box office. If my fans don't want to go see my film, then they are my critics. I'm making these movies for them (fans) not for these critics. What can audience expect from newbie Saiee Manjrekar who is making her Bollywood debut with Dabangg 3?
The audience can expect a very big star from her. The industry will have a new A-grade, very talented leading lady. What about Sonakshi Sinha? How do you rate her considering you have acted together in all the Dabangg movies?
When we first saw her for Dabangg she was very talented even then. She has grown ten fold (since then). What kind of actor are you on sets? Are you a director's actor or do you like to improvise?
I improvise but depending on the director. I will not change anything just for the heck of changing it. Like if I feel a fight scene could go wrong, then I would give an alternative to that scene. How do you plan to celebrate the success of Dabangg 3?
I'm just going to spend time at home. There is a newborn (probably referencing sister Arpita's new baby) coming to the house... And I'd thank God.

Out of curiosity can I ask WHY some sectors of Bollywood tumblr don’t like Katrina Kaif? She seems cool so I’m just wondering
This needs to be answered in some detail and I shall do so. You’ve woken the dragon.
I’m assuming you are new to Bollywood; in which case: here’s the rundown- Katrina Kaif is an Indo-British actress, one of Bollywood’s most easily recognisable faces, highest paid actresses and one with a higher success ratio than many contemporaries. She is hailed as one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful Bollywood actress of the still active crop. Why do people hate her? To answer that, I’ll divide the people who are against Katrina into some broad categories:
1. “She is beautiful but that’s it”
There are many who feel Katrina represents the Eurocentric standards of beauty with her fair complexion and British accent (I quote from one of her own films “Silky hair, milky skin- she’s like a walking-talking vanilla ice cream”). In most of her films, it is her aesthetic than her acting abilities that is celebrated because- there can be no other way to put this- she is absolutely, ridiculously beautiful. Fitoor, where Katrina played Estella Havisham was like a two hour photoshoot of Kat, a sort of tribute to her beauty where the cameraman seemed to be enamored by her (reportedly, although it is a rumour, Rekha, the original choice for Miss Havisham, walked out because she felt Katrina was looking too beautiful, overshadowing her…..sounds ridiculous but the fact that such a rumour should spread shows the public image of Katrina’s presentation in films, as the art rather than the artist). Shobaa De called her “as beautiful as an English rose…and just as dull”.
Why is this bothering? Well, there are thousands of amazing, dark skinned aspiring Indian actresses who are still shamed for their complexion and denied major movie roles. Where Katrina is held as the ideal of beauty, people like Radhika Apte and Huma Qureshi are treated looks-wise with some disdain. It’s an Ashara Dayne- Elia Martell case. What is ironical is that in no way is this Katrina’s fault. What people twist into her flaw is really a revelation of our sick mentality where till this day we worship peachy complexions and turn our noses down on anything less than porcelain-pale. Also, pretty much all our so-called “desi” stars have endorsed fairness creams, often through advertisements that target dark people as pitiful creatures. So, as Abhay Deol rightly called them out, it’s not the biracial Katrina herself per se, but the societal standards that have brought about this sad state of affairs.
2. “She piggybanks on others”
Ah, a classic. Since her debutante days, Katrina did largely minor roles in male-dominated films (mostly Salman or Akshay) the mindset is that she has attained her success because of them. To an extent I agree that Salman did serve as her godfather for her earlier career but??? to reduce her to Salman’s charity project is unfair, unjust and demeaning. And Katrina cannot win, no matter what she does. She was great in Namastey London? Well, she was just playing herself. (How criminal that an Indo-Brit should play an Indo-Brit. Tsk. The times.) She was great in New York? Well, Kabir Khan is her sugar daddy, we been knew. She was great in Raajneeti/ZNMD? But it was a multi-starrer! Tiger Zinda Hai? Ah, she finally scored a hit with a meaty role but….it was SALMAN BHAI who helped her!
While almost every actress or actor has had a godfather of some sort, Katrina faces the brunt of it because she has scored so many hits, nay, blockbusters. Instead of appreciating how she holds her own beside them, everything she does is a direct result of their godly manna. Her success is parried down to the Khans, long after she has become her own woman. Cruelly, when she does embark on brave projects with strong roles, the audience roll their eyes and ignore it- refer to when I went to watch Phantom (counter-terrorism drama, one of Kat’s best) at the theatre and one guy, I swear, remarked “it’d be more fun if she took off her clothes”. Also refer to Fitoor where one person, who was clearly unaware of either Great Expectations or the character of Estella, said that Katrina is acting stone-cold towards the hero cause she can’t act at all.
This, coupled with the Barbie doll image, has led to Katrina being projected as a sweet but altogether passive person. She doesn’t do “fiery roles” of empowering acts. She serves Sansa instead of Daenerys. And we all know how that goes. Fun fact: Katrina now is nothing less than the Diana Prince of Bollywood, an action queen through and through and her recent project TZH had her snatch wigs, purses and weaves away from Salman Bhai’s altar. BBC London mentioned her to be the best part of the film, as did most critics. Her role in MBKD had been cited as one of the most interesting female roles of 2011. Meanwhile Bollywood Tumblr “sHe cAN onLY dANCe”.
3.“she is a diva with attitude”
Apparently people have had some bad experiences with Kat who is known to be very private and guarded. Recently a woman in Vancouver insulted her and told her to improve her attitude. There are also several anonymous users on Quora who posted that she is rude at the airport. I have not personally met her but I was lucky enough to interact with some fans who did and they all assured me she was graceful and kind. I do not know if she is rude at airports or in the gym or whatnot; what I do know is that almost all her co-stars said that she is a sheer delight to work with. What I do know is that she provided food and water to paps who were waiting outside her house in the hot sun. What I do know is that I visited a publishing house because I was lucky enough to win some merch signed by her and one of the journalists there, a friend of mine, said that Katrina is one of the most polite stars she’d ever met, dignified, cheerful, guarded yet friendly. In an industry where female stars are thrown into a veritable fighting pit since their debut, she is close to almost all the leading actresses and has an excellent rapport with them. She gets along famously well with every co-star, not easy when you have worked with such a wide variety of them. Just see her Instagram, it’s mostly Kat hyping everybody else.
4. “RANPIKA BROKE UP CAUSE OF HER!” “SALMAN BHAI, LITERAL HUMAN ANGEL WAS DEVASTATED BECAUSE SHE DIDN’T STAY WITH HIM!” “SHE DOESN’T DESERVE SALMAN!” “SHE DOESN’T DESERVE ANYBODY!”
Scum of the Earth. Please do ignore if the anti arguments fall along this line. They are usually the type of stans who lick the star’s shoes clean with their own drooble if needed, act as if they have been privy witness to every detail of their fave’s life, do not understand toxic relationships, calling them ‘cute bantering’, and like to slut shame women for a pastime, while ignoring abusers and criminals at the same time.
5. “She’s undeserving of the success she enjoys, cause she is a pathetic actress”
A very interesting segment of antis had risen during the time Katrina won the prestigious Smita Patil award for her contribution to cinema. Their self-righteous claim was that there were a thousand other deserving actresses who should have won. They fail to see that Katrina’s hard work and investment has paid off, and thus they reduce her to her male colleagues, her beauty, her sex appeal. These antis are of the overall same degree and type as those who still believe Kristen Stewart is a bad actress. Y'know, the ones who sigh in faux-piety and go “he/she’s cancelled” about 50 times a day. These are the ones without perspective, who do not see the point of growth and influence. By that logic, anybody with diligence who lacks a natural-born ability should be a useless liability in society. They should be undeserving appendages, rather than people who deserve credit for their efforts. I quote from one of my Twitter posts I made a while back:
“Katrina didn’t get daunted by obstacles. This babe dared to step into an industry speaking a completely foreign tongue, as Chinese would be to us, & made it on her own. She accepted the challenge & owned it. ….(She) has worked her skin off to achieve the superstardom she enjoys today. The results are that she was the only female star to be mentioned in the National Award winning film Filmistaan, and she enjoys monumental popularity among the younger demographic.“
There is a reason Marilyn Monroe, Suchitra Sen are remembered despite them not being the best ability wise. A star is not just born out of talent. A star is also born out of the ability to captivate the minds of the audience, by charm, by persona or elsewise. This is no small feat but Kat can do that. I do not mean to compare her to these iconic women, but am making an analogy. She has screen presence. She is a star. Like it or not, she shines very, very bright. Is it her fault that she is successful? Beautiful? Hardworking? That directors come to her with scripts? What is she supposed to do, reject them? Well boohoo, I have news for you.
Besides, and this is what is most hilarious, Katrina is actually one of the most unproblematic stars of Bollywood, especially amusing when you look at the sheer number of the haters. She went to this talk show and there was this bitchy Never-Have-I-Ever segment of strip and tell where you’d have to roast your colleagues and Katrina chose to start taking off accessories and shoes instead of dragging her co-stars! Problematic! Toxic! Awful!
”……A very important thing that most overlook is that Katrina has on notable occasions spoken up for body positivity & freedom of identity. Her role in Bombay Talkies had her encourage a gender fluid person to accept himself & speak up on transsexuality…..(she ) has always remained supportive of her female colleagues, promoting their films on her own social media, praising them at every opportunity. Feminism. Done right.“
In summary, if you’re looking to criticise, you’ll find flaws in everybody, each and every Bollywood star. Mostly Katrina Kaif but also many others. She has her haters, they are vicious. But, on a better note, it doesn’t affect her. I raise you this superior bit of tea I found from this one cinephile’s Twitter thread:
I may have gotten too passionate and written too much. Forgive me. But also, you have my answer.

Even the privilege to remain casteless is only made available to Savarnas. Which is why in spite of all the half-baked things that TM Krishna says, writes and does, he is going to be thrust on us as a revolutionary. Whenever one remarks something critical about TM Krishna's 'radical' initiatives, it is always met with responses that claim "But hey, he is at least doing something. So we can't completely reject him!" or the even more boring, "Do you know how many Brahmins hate him for the radical things he is doing?" (A big yawn.)
There is a glaring irony in any Brahmin trying to become an anti-caste revolutionary. If TM Krishna or any other Brahmin has to be regarded as an anti-caste revolutionary, then their contribution should weaken the caste structure, in at least the domain they are working. Which means that the Brahmin-Savarnas who have accumulated privileges over centuries should lose some of it. And those who never had any privileges, gain some. This must be achieved through a structural change and not through any philanthropic activity. Just a bare minimal requirement, right? So going by this basic principle, I am sure we can agree that the Brahmin revolutionary too (being part of the caste structure) should lose some of his/her privileges in the process. (Yes only, no?) But what has TM Krishna's supposedly 'radical' initiatives led to?
1. He wins the Magsaysay award. The same year, Bezwada Wilson too wins the award. Wilson has been fighting to end manual scavenging for over 30 years. On the other hand, TM Krishna lived most of his life as a very privileged Iyengar. And suddenly discovered 'Caste' on one lazy summer morning. 'The Hindu' when publishing the news about the Magsaysay award winners allots a huge chunk of the first page to Krishna and a small box news for Wilson. This directly reveals how the caste structure works. TM Krishna's pointless, patronizing but well-publicized events allowed him to reap a huge benefit here. But Wilson's 30 plus years of work put him behind the new Iyenger kid on the block. (Obviously!)
2. TM Krishna quits the December music season citing reasons, which include the domination of the Carnatic music scene by a single community. Ahem! The same community he belongs to, that is. As someone who has drawn all possible benefits out of the season by being part of the community, he decides to quit it one day. Did it make him lose his privileges? Not one bit. In fact, he has already sucked all the privileges out of the December music season and become some sort of a star singer. By quitting the season, he actually becomes an even more sought after singer. And basic economics tells us that when you lower the supply, the demand automatically goes up. Which in this case would naturally translate to an increase in ticket prices for his concerts. By making the decision to quit the season, he has become a bigger star, who is commercially better off. He is no more one among the several singers of the crowded season. But someone you can only access exclusively. (Smart move, right?)
3. Every now and then, TM Krishna works with lower caste singers, musicians or art forms. And if you cared to notice (am sure, you have), we hardly get to see any of their names or faces. The only name that is repeatedly pushed down our throat is TM Krishna's. All his generosity in willing to work with art forms or artists from oppressed communities has not done anything significant to them. And it can't too. But on the other hand, it has made him some sort of a benevolent and revolutionary cultural icon. Which further increases his market value as a Carnatic singer. In the crowded Carnatic market scene, TM Krishna has been able to stand out by stepping on the shoulders of these nameless, faceless artists. It was alleged that there was a tough competition for the top spot between TM Krishna and another Carnatic singer Sanjay Subrahmanyan, an Iyer - leading to some sort of an intra-agraharam tussle. But with the kind of posturing Krishna has been doing the last few years, he has been able to easily overshadow Sanjay Subrahmanyam. (Is Iyengar the new 'higher'?)
4. There is a direct commercial value in artists indulging in socially woke activities. When actor Salman Khan drunk drove and killed people sleeping on the pavement, he was advised to start the 'Being Human' brand. Tamil actor Surya and his family members make emotional appeals about their Agaram Foundation. Another Tamil actor Kamal Hassan peddled atheism and Periyar to appeal to the Dravidian audience when his competitor Rajinikant was doing better with the masses. Actor Aamir Khan confirmed his progressiveness by repeatedly sobbing on his show Satyamev Jayate. The thing is, in highly competitive environments, artists can never become huge stars by just minding their own business. They have to create goodwill karma and build a cult around it. And the return on investment in such activities is freakingly huge and translates to better business. We don't know and will never know if anyone really got benefitted through the 'Being Human' initiative. But it has made Salman a bigger brand than he already was. Similarly, TM Krishna has only become a bigger brand through all his philanthropic initiatives.(Whatte wow!)
So where were we? Yeah. We kind of agreed that if TM Krishna's radical initiatives are worthwhile, then it should leave him with fewer privileges than where he started. But is that what is happening? Not at all. He is rather becoming a bigger star and only accumulating more and more privileges. And by amassing these privileges, will he be strengthening the caste system or weakening it? (Tell me, please!)
By wallowing in a series of photo-op friendly initiatives, TM Krishna is only robbing the voice of several Dalit-Bahujan activists who have been working in the anti-caste space for decades but will never be heard. In a caste society, for any real revolution to happen, the Brahmin should learn to shut up. Or in TM Krishna's case, he can also use the ancestral property (polite term for caste property) he has inherited to create a new Music Sabha and ban Brahmins from it. Doing anything else is just the equivalent of loud farting. And we all might have to just close our noses for a while.
#this is soooo good#and everything i agree with about tm krishna's frivilous Op-eds on scroll and the wire#frivolous***#feel bad for pa ranjith i saw the twitter comments and trolling#rajesh rajamani#tm krishna#pa. ranjith#but more power to him

why is salman problematic?
DISCLAIMER: This ask contains trigger warnings and content dealing with domestic assault/abusive relationships and signs of abuse so please proceed with caution.
If I answer this, I would only get more pissed. Now, my dear friend @rangeelas sent me a link, and I will be using them for reference. First things first, if you are familiar with Aishwarya’s and Salman’s famous relationship, let me show you this photo and I will tell you the backstory behind it. This is just one of the many problematic aspects of Salman and his misgnostic and sexist ways
Now this photo? It’s definitely terrifying. In fact, this photo is from Filmfare 2002 Awards. And here’s a little backstory [you can read the full story of their relationship and how abusive Salman really was, and why her father hated Salman from the beginning and rightfully so]
Salman Khan is one of the three famous Khans (Shahrukh/Aamir) and unlike his colleagues he cannot act. He’s been in the industry for the past 25 years and has been unable to break out of a role other than innocent, well-doer, action hero. The industry continues to defend his actions. He has joked that “If he cannot play a good man in real life, he can at least play it onscreen.” (Actual quote!)How he has managed to survive?By creating a charity (Being Human) and his amazing PR manager Reshma Shetty who turned him into a saint. The industry continues to turn a blind eye to his antics and his cult continue to worship him (yes literally!) and threatens anyone who says anything negative about him.
A sample of his shitty behavior, there’s a lot more but here’s what I’ve gathered:AISHWARYA RAI
Salman Khan has been known to abuse almost all his girlfriends. Katrina’s relationship with Salman is very complicated (one that would take another novel to write but it really stems from her deeply rooted issues with a lack of a father figure as she never really had a stable father figure during major parts of her childhood).
Anyways…….back to the story here.
Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan started dating during the filming of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. They would go on to date for two years from 1999 to 2001. However things went downhill, Salman would go on to create a ruckus by banging on her door demanding to be let in or he’d commit suicide, he kept this up till 3am until she let him in. Aishwarya’s father decided to file a police report on her behalf.Salman later said in an interview that she wasn’t returning his love, and that he was forced to turn violent.“If you won’t fight, that means there is no love between you, I will not fight with an outsider; when we fight, it is all because of our love,” he maintained stoically. He showed up drunk on the sets of her films Kuch Naa Kaho & Chalte Chalte and threatened Shahrukh Khan (who he suspected was having an affair with Ash) Shahrukh would go on to kick Ash out of the film and the rest of the films the duo had signed together.“In fact anyone who protested on Aishwarya’s behalf was labelled a traitor and given the Khan-damn treatment. The brutality and violence reached aflash -point for Aishwarya when she told him she couldn’t take him—and them (the violence and brutality) –any longer.
“No to Salman?? Nahinchalega, boss! (Not gonna happen, boss) Thereafter he began to hound the lady like a man possessed (which he has confessed to being). He monitored every move she made, and parked his vehicle outside her building daring her to step out. For an awards function, Aishwarya had to drive out crouching in the backseat of her car so that her jealous admirer wouldn’t espy her as she broke the ‘house arrest’ treaty. Salman landed up at the awards function to humiliate the lady in every way possible. Not a single soul intervened at the function. They watched mutely or pretended not to see as Salman threatened, heckled and jeered the lady.”
Aishwarya Rai dared to do write an open letter to the press of her abuse:
“After we broke up, he would call me and talk rubbish. He also suspected me of having affairs with my co-stars. I was linked up with everyone, from Abhishekh Bachchan to Shah Rukh Khan. There were times when Salman got physical with me, luckily without leaving any marks. And I would go to work as if nothing had happened.”
KATRINA KAIF
In 2012 a report came out that and Salman Khan beat (his ex) Katrina Kaif whilst they were filming for Ek Tha Tiger. The reason being she was wearing “figure-hugging/cleavage-revealing dress that showed too much skin”Katrina’s “friend” would go on to deny this report. However, when Salman Khan was asked about the incident about how he “got into a screaming match and allegedly tried to attack actor and then girlfriend Katrina Kaif with a stick on a movie set because he didn’t like her costume, Salman said: “It (the blouse) didn’t fit properly, and would have taken away from the beauty of the scene. Eat what you like, and wear what others like. It is as simple as that.”Salman Khan has also been accused of slapping Katrina Kaif at least on three separate occasions.Recently, there was an incident with the interviewer who witnessed Salman’s problematic behavior, and this is what he/she had to say {This was NOT the first time this happened]
You can read the rest of how and why Salman is just as bad as Johnny Depp but much much worse. Source:

Chandramukhi is one of the pivotal characters in the 1917 Bengali novelDevdas by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Her character was inspired by the Hindumystical singer Meera, who devoted her life to Lord Krishna; similarly Chandramukhi devoted her life to Devdas.[1] Chandramukhi is portrayed as a hooker with a heart of gold in the novel and its film adaptations.[2] Chandramukhi means 'moon faced' or 'as beautiful as the moon' in Sanskrit.[3]
In the novel[edit]
Chandramukhi is a courtesan who lives in Calcutta also known as Kolkata. She is considered the most beautiful and richest prostitute in the area of Chitpur.[4] She is first introduced to Devdas by Chunnilal, who returns to Calcutta heartbroken after the marriage of Parvathi 'Paro'. Devdas, disgusted over Chandramukhi's profession insults her and leaves her kotha. Chandramukhi, impressed by Devdas's attitude, later falls in love with him after realizing his steadfast love for Paro. She leaves her profession for Devdas and convinces him to marry her; he, however, has to reluctantly reject her offer as he has devoted his life to Paro. In return, Chandramukhi does not force him to be with her but waits patiently for him. Subsequently, she also moves to Ashthajhari village, where she lives in a muddy house located at the bank of a river and helps the needy. After some struggle, she meets with Devdas again, who now accepts her love.
In the film[edit]
Chandrabati Devi as Chandramukhi and Pramathesh Barua as Devdas in the 1935 Bengali filmDevdas
In most of the film adaptations of Devdas, the story of Chandramukhi is similar to the novel. Ibm lotus notes mac. However, in most of the films her humanitarian work in helping the needy is not depicted. Unlike in the novel, a scene in which Chandramukhi and Parvathi meet was added in Bimal Roy's 1955 version when Paro, played by Suchitra Sen riding in a human rickshaw, comes across Chandramukhi, played by Vyjayanthimala, who just stares at Paro without a single word being exchanged between them.[5] The meeting scene of Paro and Chandramukhi in the 1955 version was still regarded as one of the memorable scene in Bollywood with the background music adding the impact to the scene.[6] In the 2002 version, the director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, extended the interaction between Paro and Chandramukhi, also showing them dancing together to the hit song 'Dola Re Dola'.[7]

Social impact[edit]
Chandramukhi is one of the first characters in an Indian novel to deal with prostitution.[9] She was often depicted as a prostitute with a heart of gold.[10] The character of Chandramukhi had paved the way for other portrayals of prostitutes in films like Sadhna, Pyaasa and Pakeezah.[11] Actresses such as Nargis, Suraiya and Bina Rai refused to enact the role of a prostitute in the 1955 film of Devdas, which later went to Vyjayanthimala.[12]
Legacy[edit]
Chandramukhi was well-received in India by critics. In 2006, Rediff listed Chandramukhi in their list of 'Bollywood's Best Tawaif'.[13]Nikhat Kazmi of The Times of India also ranked Chandramukhi at #5 in his list 'Tart with a heart', saying that 'The egotistical Paro may have given her boy friend the goby, but self-sacricficing Chandramukhi was willing to put everything on hold — her livelihood too — for her lover'.[14]

Awards[edit]
Riverbed nightmare pathfinder. There are many actresses who have portrayed Chandramukhi in film adaptations of Devdas. The first notable award was won by Vyjayanthimala in 1956 when she won the Filmfare Awards, known as Bollywood's Oscar,[15] in the Supporting Actress category. However, she was also the first person to decline the award, as she thought that her role was not a supporting one but was of equal importance and parallel to that of Parvathy in the 1955 version.[16] Other actresses who played Chandramukhi in Hindi versions of the novel have also won this award.[13]

Bigg Boss 13: Salman Khan scolds Sidharth Shulka but clip removed from episode, angry Twitter reacts - tv
TV actors Rashami Desai and Sidharth Shukla, who have been engaged in ugly fights for past few days inside Bigg Boss 13 house, were in for some reality check when host Salman Khan chided them on Saturday and Sunday. Fresh reports claim that Salman was extremely upset with the way Sidharth behaved during the fights and scolded him for it. However, these portions were edited out of the final episode that aired over the weekend. A Pinkvilla report suggested that the creative team of Bigg Boss intervened when Salman began scolding Sidharth. He was stopped midway and after some discussion with Salman, they left the stage. Spotboye also reported similar developments from the show’s sets. News Nation also reported the intervention, wondering whether the portion will be aired. Also read: National Film Awards 2019 Live updates: Vicky Kaushal, Ayushmann Khurrana to be honoured, Amitabh Bachchan bows outDuring Sunday’s episode, Salman asked Sidharth what he meant by ‘aisi ladki (such a girl)’ a word he used while fighting with Rashami. Sidharth said he simply meant ‘Rashami Desai jaisi’. Rashami was agitated and she angrily retorted ‘Aisi yaane kaisi (What kind of a girl am I)?’ Salman also agreed that the usage was not as innocent and simple as Sidharth had insisted it was. Rashami kept crying and fighting and even infuriated Salman in the process. He asked her not to be stuck on the usage, explaining that Sidharth made it clear that he meant nothing bad. Salman asked Rashami to ‘let it go’. “When you know that there is dirt in a box, why do you go and open it,” Salman asked Rashami. Sidharth got quite defensive on hearing this and kept asking Salman if ‘dirt box’ comment was for him. Sidharth claimed the rival gang would tease him as dirt box for the rest of the week.Twitter was furious at the entire situation. “#RashamiDesai directly said to Salman ‘Sir app ko mai janthi hu aur app muh thodh dogye agar ase koyi kisi bhi ladki ko bole’ (Sir, I know you, and you will smash the face of someone who behaves with a girl like this) @ColorsTV ka script ka kya hoga? HAPPY BIRTHDAY BIG BROTHER!
~The Format That Changed TV Forever In India And Across The Globe Turns 20!~
Mumbai, 16th September 2019: Big Brother, (aka Bigg Boss in India) - the original reality format - celebrates its landmark 20th birthday today. On the 16th September 1999, nine Housemates moved in a purpose-built house in the Netherlands, equipped with 24 cameras and no contact with the outside world to be watched 24/ 7 by Big Brother. A cultural phenomenon was born, and the TV revolution aired its first ever episode that night on Dutch Broadcaster Veronica, part of RTL.
Since its launch, Big Brother has taken the world by storm, with 471 series of 28,391 episodes commissioned in 60 markets and airing pan regionally in 80 since its launch. 7,153 housemates from around the globe have spent 35, 143 days in the house and there have been 5, 035 evictions.
Twenty years since its worldwide debut, Big Brother is enjoying one of its best years yet and is constantly being renewed internationally with 22 productions in 18 markets confirmed to air in 2019.
In India Bigg Boss has conquered audiences, in Hindi, Kannada, Bangla, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil and Malayalam. With 30 seasons under its belt Globally Endemol Shine India is the only one in history of the franchise who has produced the Big Brother format (Bigg Boss) in multiple languages for different broadcasters. Bigg Boss has now been produced in India in 7 languages and today produces more than 600 episodes in a 365-day calendar year.
With huge stars such as Salman Khan, Kamala Hassan, Nagarjuna, Mohanlal, Mahesh Manjrekar and Sudeep as hosts, an interesting mix of contestants and an amazing creative and production team, the show continues to garner huge TRPs and driving in viewers every season.
Talking about the completion of 20 years of Big Brother globally, Abhishek Rege, CEO, Endemol Shine India said, “Big Brother is undoubtedly the most popular non-scripted show across the globe entertaining viewers from all strata of society. In India too, the show has been well received and has garnered a huge fan following. The ongoing appreciation for the franchise across the globe and in India, no matter the language, is testament to the effort of the creative and production teams at Endemol Shine globally and our understanding of geographies and of local audiences.”
Engaging audiences with interactivity
Big Brother is more interactive and immersive than ever, whether it be viewer polls, making decisions for tasks or else the weekly evictions which are the bedrock of many global schedules. Big Brother stands out in the way it engages the audience to be part of the show, and earlier this year saw 202 million votes cast in Brazil in a single eviction.
Innovating with technology
Big Brother has always thrived on changes in the tech and TV landscape and fans have more access to the show’s content than ever before, whether it be watching episodes on YouTube in Spain where the series had a dual strategy to produce the programme for linear and online or streaming on a broadcaster’s SVOD or AVOD platform in markets like the US, Canada and Finland.
The show is innovating with tech within productions too. Big Brother Poland was the first version of the reality hit to be filmed in a real-life existing house. This has been followed by the recent relaunch in Finland, where the house was located in the heart of Helsinki in REDI shopping mall. These new types of productions are only possible because of advanced technology and state of the art cameras which allow the show to be produced in innovative ways. It also furthers the creative freedom for the producers with fully connected houses enabling access to rooms to be limited or to give housemates certain privileges such as access to the fridge or even the coffee machine. Existing locations also have created a truly authentic environment for relationships to develop.
Sustainability
And the format is rolling our green initiatives too, in Germany the production team of VIP series saved an estimated 12,000 coffee cups after switching to reusable bamboo cups and all groceries for the House were sourced locally.
In Finland, the new house will be made with recycled materials and with water scarcity a significant issue in India, the production has installed waste water recycling, as well as placing water restrictions for housemates and one of the regional versions even features an empty swimming pool to make a point about the limits.
None of us know what the next twenty years will bring, but one thing for sure, the world is watching.

Bhagyashree reveals her love story in this trending post: Yash ji told me I was foolish but I loved being foolish
Bhagyashree did something that not many stars dared to do. She quit the glamorous acting profession when she was at the peak of her career. That's right, Bhagyashree did not care for the stupendous success that came her way with the Salman Khanstarrer Maine Pyar Kiya. She gave it all up for a blissful married life. But was it all worth it?
Bhagyashree reveals all, almost 3 decades later.

This is Bhagyashree's post that is taking the viral world by storm:
We went to school together — he was the naughtiest kid in class and I was always the class monitor. We would fight all the time and the rest of the class would have a blast! We were like Yin and Yang — the more we fought, the more it became clear that we couldn’t be apart. We never dated though…he never even told me how he felt until the last day of school. He said, ‘I have to tell you something’ and then for one week he kept trying to say it but would always back out. Finally, I went upto him and said, ‘look, just say it…I’m sure the answer will be positive’ and that’s when he told me he liked me. I come from a very conservative family, so even after that while we were in college, we would barely meet or talk on the phone. When I told my parents about him, they thought we were too young to decide something like this, and I believed as well that if he really loved me, we should be apart for sometime — he should explore, know that I’m the one and then we could be together. So we did break up when he went away to the US to study, and that’s when I signed Maine Pyaar Kiya. Before signing the film, while he was still in the States I went and met his parents to ask them if they were okay with me getting into films…we weren’t even together at that point, but I guess somewhere I knew that we would in the future. They said that they had no problems…and I began shooting. When he came back home during the course of the shooting we both knew that we wanted to be together, but my parents still wouldn’t allow us to meet or speak on the phone…so I decided to speak to them. I told tell them that seeing him made me happy, that I couldn't be without him, but they were still adamantly against our relationship. I knew then that there wasn’t any other way.
I called him up after this conversation and asked him, ‘are you sure of yourself, of us? This is the deciding day…either I’d be in his life forever or not at all.’ I said, ‘I’m leaving my house now, if you love me come and pick me up’ and within 15 minutes he was under my house. We had a small ceremony at a temple — his parents, Salman, Sooraj ji, a few of our friends attended and that’s how we go married. There after, Maine Pyaar Kiya went on to become such a big hit, but I was a woman so in love with my husband and my son Abhimanyu who was born soon after that I said no to every offer I got. I have absolutely no regrets though, I look at my life, my family now and I feel so proud. Yash Ji always said, ‘you’re a foolish girl’ and oh yes, I loved being foolish! Very often, people say ‘giving up such a bright career’ is backward, but I disagree. I respect and admire career women who can juggle both, but I took the decision of being a full invested home maker…and believe me, that’s a thankless job. But it’s all worth it when you see your children growing up into fine human beings. Just like I played a role in a movie, the role of a mother was a part of my life…but is not defined by it. Today, I’m into fitness, nutrition, traveling and if another movie comes along— I’ll do it all over again. I don’t like that either you’re a ‘working woman’ or a ‘stay at home mom’ — why can’t women be 10 different things…why can’t we keep exploring and with every phase, discover a new passion? From actress, to mom, to giving exams on nutrition at this age, I’ve loved every feather on my hat…and there will be plenty more to add to it!”

Khans, step aside: 2017 is Akshay Kumar 2.0's year
There's an unspoken understanding that a man should always listen to his biwi if he has to do things right. Twinkle Khanna, in the latest season of Koffee With Karan, said that she gave an ultimatum to her husband Akshay Kumar that if Akshay did not do "sensible films", she would not have a second chid with him.
Clearly, Akshay Kumar took that threat to heart because not only was the couple's second child Nitara born in 2012, but thereafter, Akshay's films showed a marked improvement in quality. Where once there was a phase when Akshay would star in films like Thank You, Joker, Khiladi 786 and Boss, today, Akshay Kumar has both commercial success AND critical acclaim because of films like Special 26, Holiday, Baby, Airlift and Rustom.

ALSO WATCH: Can Akshay beat Salman to be Bollywood's No.1 star in 2017?
Akshay was always perfect as the righteous, macho hero with great flair for comic timing. He has played the upright man's man from the beginning of his career in films like Mohra, Main Khiladi Tu Anari and Elaan. Later on, he found his funnybones (no pun intended) with the Priyadarshan comedies (Hera Pheri, Garam Masala) and the occasional Mujhse Shaadi Karogi.
But as Akshay's stardom and fan following grew in stature, the actor began to take up films that combined the histrionics of '80s maar-dhaar waale films and the abysmal sense of humour that South-potboilers have. Hence, you had something Rowdy Rathore directed by Prabhu Deva, which worked at the box office, no doubt about that but after two decades in the industry, was minor commercial success all that Akshay was looking forward to in his career? Wasn't he good enough for tracing the heights that his contemporaries Aamir, Shah Rukh and Salman had? Wasn't he as adventurous as the younger kids like Ranbir Kapoor and Varun Dhawan who were showing considerable bravery in doing projects like Barfi! and Badlapur?
Damn right, he was. Akshay just was not ready, for whatever reason. But now, he is.
After a humble cameo in what Twinkle would call a 'sensible' film, OMG-Oh My God!, Akshay starred in Neeraj Pandey's tight, gripping crime-caper Special 26. Note that, Akshay was not doing anything different in Special 26 terms of acting; he was still playing an upright professional (albeit, in the world of conning people), but this time, he had with him a no-nonsense writer-director and a bunch of good actors who gave their best and simultaneously accentuated Akshay's core strengths as an actor. As a result, Special 26 was not only a hit but people sat up and took notice of Akshay as an actor, not just a performer.
The Neeraj Pandey-Akshay Kumar team went on to produce Baby in 2015 and Rustom in 2016 - two films which used Akshay's full potential as an intense, action-oriented actor - which further propelled Khiladi Kumar to a new phase of super-stardom that he had never tasted in his career.
Now, having understood his full capability as an actor and star, Akshay has joined hands with the best filmmakers in town to produce (what looks on paper like) films with great potential.
First up in 2017, there is Akshay Kumar's Jolly LLB 2, directed by Subhash Kapoor, where Akshay plays a bufoonish lawyer who soon enough grows a conscience and fights it out inside the courtroom against a rich lawyer played by National Award-winning actor Annu Kapoor. This is the kind of film nobody in his right mind would have expected Akshay to be in in his Khiladi 786 days.
Next up, is the tri-lingual film 2.0, where Akshay plays a villainous ornithologist who locks horns with Rajinikanth, no less. This film would provide Akshay with a much-needed pan-Indian following in addition to being a good showcase for Akshay's potential to play theatrically evil villains.
Then, there are the two social dramas, Toilet - Ek Prem Katha and Padman. While R Balki's (Cheeni Kum, Paa) Padman will feature Akshay play Arunachalam Muruganantham, the man who devoted his life to making low-cost sanitary napkins for India's rural women. Meanwhile, Toilet - Ek Prem Katha is touted to be a social satire revolving around Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
It was Aamir Khan who showed the potential of cinema where one could marry star status with good, earnest storytelling to make progressive but commercial cinema for one and all. Now, Akshay Kumar is taking that road to produce some quality films. In fact, there is also Akshay's Crack with Neeraj Pandey and the sports drama Gold with Talaash director Reema Kagti in the pipeline.
If Akshay's experimentation with films work out this year - and it is most likely that they would - we will have a new megastar in our midst, in addition to the Khans - someone more than his Khiladi image, an Akshay Kumar 2.0.

★ 11 Years Of Wanted EXCLUSIVE: “Shah Rukh Khan was not offered Wanted. Salman was the ONE and ONLY choice”.-Boney Kapoor!
Sep 18, 2020
The experience of watching a commercial, masala film in cinemas today is incomplete if audiences are not reacting with claps and whistles. This practice, once exclusive to single screens, has also crept into swanky multiplexes. And this trend’s new avatar was born thanks to a film released exactly 11 years ago, named Wanted. It starred Salman Khan and Ayesha Takia in leading roles and were supported by Vinod Khanna, Mahesh Manjrekar, Prakash Raj, Manoj Pahwa, Mehek Chahal, Inder Kumar and Aseem Merchant. It was the official remake of the Telugu flick Pokiri (2006). Prabhudheva first made its remake in Tamil and then also helmed the Hindi version. The film was about a cop who goes undercover as a ruthless gangster and finishes off two notorious gangs and their masters in Mumbai.
Wanted was a huge hit. It revived the career of Salman Khan and brought him back to the big league. Till today, he’s following the ‘Wanted’ formula of making mass-friendly, action entertainers (and with him doing away with his shirt in the final fight). And audiences are not complaining. Even for the industry, Wanted was godsend. It was released at a time when the industry was reeling due to recession, aftermath of the multiplex-producers strike and back-to-back flops. It made the Bollywood fraternity realize the importance of kind of cinema and how audiences are ready to lap it up. Thus began the era of new-age masala flicks and it thrives even today.
On this joyous occasion, Bollywood Hungama spoke to its producer Boney Kapoor, who made Wanted as a joint venture with Sahara One Motion Pictures. The veteran filmmaker shared some exciting trivia about the film’s making, casting, reception and a lot more, which is sure to surprise and thrill the movie buff in you!
1. A trivia on the popular website IMDb states that Shah Rukh Khan was the original choice and that he refused, citing that no one can play this role better than Mahesh Babu, the lead actor in the original film.
Boney Kapoor however rubbishes this rumour, “Shah Rukh Khan was not offered Wanted. Salman was the one and only choice. I remember he was shooting for Partner (2007) and I had asked him to see the original film made in Telugu. He had cancelled the plan twice. Meanwhile, the Tamil film was to release and then it would have further led to a scramble for rights. Hence, I insisted Salman that he come and watch. He agreed. Post the shoot, he saw the film at midnight at Dimple Theatre. He loved it and did thumbs up to me and walked towards his car.”
2. It is now known that Ileana D'Cruz, the actress opposite Mahesh Babu in Pokiri, refused Wanted as she had her exams coming up then. Boney Kapoor says, “Yes, Ileana was in close contention. We also thought of Genelia Deshmukh. There were also two top actresses who were interested but I had to politely say no to them since I wanted an actress who had never worked with Salman before. This is because of this crucial scene in the second half after Salman fights the goons in the train. This is where the girl says, ‘I don’t know if you are a good or a bad person, but the fact is that I love you.’ We needed someone who was in awe of Salman and hence, looked for a new face.”
3. Prakash Raj, a familiar face in Bollywood today, was reintroduced in Bollywood with Wanted. Boney, at this, reveals, “Prakash Raj was on standby as we were trying to cast an actor from Mumbai. However, we couldn’t find one. Also, he was a part of the original film and thus it made sense to cast him. Incidentally, his first film in Hindi was also with us – Shakti - The Power (2002).
4. Wanted took over two years to be made and released. “We shot the film for around 200 days and Salman shot for nearly 168 days. We started the shoot somewhere in August 2007,” said the producer.
5. Wanted songs, by Sajid-Wajid, are a hit even today and one of the songs that were widely promoted was 'Love Me Love Me'. However, the version we saw in the film was shot later. Boney Kapoor tells, “We shot 'Love Me Love Me' in Bangkok but then we decided to reshoot it. We filmed it in Surve Farms near Mumbai.” Even 'Le Le Maza Le'was shot in the same location.
6. All the songs of the film were shot in a grand fashion and Boney Kapoor left no unturned to make them look visually stunning. He tells, “We spent Rs. 1 crore on the Salman Khan song, 'Most Wanted Track'.”
7. Wanted began on a chilling note showing the villain Ghani Bhai (Prakash Raj) as a ruthless gangster enjoying a wrestling match and killing off his gang member, when he learns that he was deceiving him. Boney shares a great trivia, “The intro scene of Prakash Raj was shot much later, in Thailand. This is because we realized we needed a powerful scene to introduce his character as Hindi cinema audiences were not aware of him.”
8. There was another addition in the Hindi version, “The scene where Prakash Raj’s character realizes he’s in a ship in the middle of nowhere was not there in the original. Initially, we wanted to shoot it on a dysfunctional oil rig and we tried to do so in India. But due to security reasons, we were not allowed. We then tried in other countries but it couldn’t happen. Finally, we shot it in a shop near Bangkok, Thailand.”
9. The film’s title also underwent a change. Says Boney Kapoor, “Earlier, the title was Wanted - Dead And Alive. It was unusual because the popular term is 'Wanted - Dead Or Alive'. But we were keen on this particular title as the gangsters wanted Radhe dead while the cops wanted him alive. Once you see the film, you realize why that is so. However, then we decided to settle for just Wanted. This title was with Gaffar Bhai Nadiadwala and he was kind enough to give it to us”. This explains why the Hera Pheri(2000) producer has been thanked in the end credits.
10. Wanted began the trend of having Eid releases for Salman Khan. Barring 2013 and 2020 (the latter due to the lockdown), Salman has had a release on this festival every year from 2009 to 2019. What’s not known is that Wanted was to arrive in April 2009. The multiplex strike pushed it ahead, just like most films. Then, Wanted was to hit screens on July 3 and it was also to clash with Dulha Mil Gaya (2010), which featured Shah Rukh Khan in a supporting role. Then it was moved to August 7. Later it got a release on September 18, 2 days before Ramzan Eid. Boney Kapoor however adds to this trivia, “We tried to bring the film on Diwali 2008. But Salman’s Yuvvraaj (2008) and Heroes (2008) was to be released then and hence, we pushed it to April 2009. This is when the multiplex strike was going on and this led to further delay. Eventually we settled for Eid.”
11. One of the most heart-breaking developments was the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) awarding it with an ‘A’ certificate. Several industry insiders, trade and even audiences were left shocked since the film had violence but it was not too gory either. There were fears that it might restrict the film’s appeal. Even Salman in many interviews expressed his disagreement with Wanted’s ‘A’ rating. Boney explains, “Censors had become strict because of some mishap then. The original Telugu version had got ‘A’. But the Tamil one was awarded ‘U/A’ and we expected the same for Wanted as well. Had Wanted got a U/A, it would have done 25-40% more business. Less than a year ago, Censors had given Ghajini (2008) a U/A certificate as well”. Ghajini, starring Aamir Khan, was also a remake and had excessive violence, just like Wanted.
12. The audiences enjoyed not just the performances, music, action and humour but also the film’s dialogues, written wittily by Shiraz Ahmed. 'Ek baar jo maine commitment kar di, toh main apne aap ki bhi nahi sunta' is one of Salman’s most popular dialogues of his career. Boney Kapoor tells, “The one-liners of Wanted started a trend and were redone in various other films. Such one-liners have always been a hallmark of my films whether it’s 'Mogambo Khush Hua' from Mr India (1987) or 'Be Positive' from No Entry (2005).”
13. Once Wanted was out, reports soon started pouring of how viewers have gone berserk. The management of Mumbai’s Ankur cinema had to paint a ‘Housefull’ board because they didn’t have one. Theatres in South Mumbai like Liberty and New Empire had to meanwhile dig out the ‘Housefull’ board from their storage rooms as they had not used those for a long time! In Paras cinema in Jaipur, the cops had to request the theatre management to sell 200 tickets less to keep the audience in control. In the biggest theatre in Hubli, Karnataka, almost 5,000 people gathered outside to buy tickets. Manoj Desai, executive director of G7 Multiplex in Mumbai, popularly called as Gaiety-Galaxy cinema complex, had summed up the madness in one sentence, “Wanted has got the film industry and also the single screen cinemas out of the ICU.” Gaiety-Galaxy is like a barometer for the industry and the response there made it clear for Boney Kapoor that Wanted is a hit. “The response in Gaiety Galaxy was unbelievable,” he says.
14. Wanted, surprisingly, did very well even in multiplexes. Boney Kapoor agrees and adds, “Wanted was critically rated very well too. Even The Times Of India gave 4 stars!”
15. Wanted added another feather in its cap, as shared by Boney, “The trend of repeat runs was very common at one point but had died down in the new millennium. However, Wanted was an exception. Even after a year, it used to be played in many centres. It used to not do huge business but nevertheless, it used to get decent footfalls.”
16. Salman Khan’s career got a new lease of life after Wanted. His fan following was already huge but it got bigger after this flick. Boney Kapoor states, “Post the release, the Wanted team including me and Salman went to Kolkata for a football match. However, Salman couldn’t enter the ground. Such was the craze.”
A lot of films’ anniversaries are celebrated nowadays and many of these at times seem unnecessary. However, Wanted deserves to be feted as it was the first step in making our industry bigger and better. Today, most of the films in the Rs. 200 and Rs. 300 crore club belong to the action masala genre. Hence, Wanted is responsible for opening the eyes of the producers that such films are not dead, as believed then by many, and that they’ll always have an audience. Boney Kapoor signs off by saying, “Wanted epitomizes that real Hindi cinema, if made well and with ample amount of masala, can never fail.”

Shahid Kapoor on Mira Rajput’s debut: ‘She has all her life to figure out so many things for herself’ | bollywood
It’s not every day that your film makes close to Rs 280 crores, that too, only in India. Especially, for Shahid Kapoor, the experience is absolutely new, or as he says, “it’s a virgin territory for me.” But along with bouquets for Kabir Singh, came brickbats as well, for his “faulty character”. “But there is a certain section of people, who had propaganda of sorts that they talked about,” he says. We catch up with the actor for a freewheeling chat about the criticism, success, being a family man and more. Excerpts:
Kabir Singh is the biggest hit of the year so far. Has the feeling finally sunk in?
Yes! Weirdly, the first thing that I sensed was a feeling of being relaxed. And then, I also felt very emotional and undeserving of such numbers because it’s not as if I worked five times harder on this film and still, it’s making much more money. God has been very kind, and I’m very thankful to people. It has changed something inside me as far as my relationship with audiences is concerned. Now, more than anyone else, I want to work for them — be it my own reasons, family or my belief in cinema. I feel like keep giving them films which they’ll really enjoy. I don’t want to let them down.
Shahid Kapoor seen with his wife Mira Rajput in Mumbai on Aug 24, 2019. ( IANS )
At the same, the film and your ‘flawed’ character has been criticised by a section of people. Does that still bother you?
You know, it’s strange that no one questioned Shah Rukh Khan’s character from Baazigar (1993) when he loved both the sisters at the same time. I feel we’re coming of age with the kind of films we’re making, and our cinema is coming closer to reality, but with Kabir Singh, I saw an opposite kind of reaction. I found it a little hypocritical and surprising too since the character that Leonardo DiCaprio played in The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) — who I feel had a lot more issues than Kabir — is celebrated and applauded. And the same people are dissing Kabir Singh. Interestingly, people — at mass level — loved both the films.
As award season kick start, do you expect nominations or winning awards in the wake of all the talks?
Let’ see. We have seen that the audience has matured and has come of age. Now, we will see if other people have also grown up or they are still prejudiced. Time will tell. One thing’s for sure: the kind of love Kabir Singh has got can’t be disputed, and the film is driven by the character. So the writing is on the wall. Beyond that, nothing is in my control.
There’s a lot of mystery around your next film. Why haven’t you signed anything new?
My life is maintaining a mystery with me (laughs). I am dying to tell everyone what I’ll do next as it’s the best time to announce it. I was trying to find a film even before Kabir Singh released as I don’t like to sit at home. But I just didn’t like anything enough. Now, a lot of things have started coming so, I’ve to go through everything. Also, it took me a month or so to absorb everything, and understand what it means. After all, pehli baar hua hai. But there are things that I have liked. Hopefully, we will soon make an announcement.
It has been four years since you got married [to Delhi girl, Mira Rajput]. And you put it beautifully in an interview that ‘even though it’s just been four years, a large part of who I am has been formed since the day we got married…’
It’s like a wild horse that used to be free in the wild. But for four years, he has been domesticated. So, my self-image has completely changed. I’m a domesticated horse now (laughs). On a serious note, your sense of identity becomes different before marriage as compared to when you have children and wife to come back home to. Then, it’s not just ‘you’ anymore, but more about ‘us.’ I think once you get there, then it’s difficult to get back to ‘you’ in terms of how you even think about life. Your thoughts and decision make a transition from ‘I, me and myself’ to ‘us’. I think that’s a big change.
Of late, there’s a lot of curiosity about whether Mira will get into showbiz or not. You take?
Wherever, whatever, however – that’s completely her decision. We got married and within first year, we had our first baby and then two years later, we had another one. So, right now, it’s difficult for her to give her time completely to anything else rather to herself. I can see how dedicated she is as a mother, and she is completely consumed by that. But she is just 25. In another year or so, she would have taken care of an extremely important, big part [giving all the attention to the babies]. She has all her life to figure out so many things for herself. Then she can do what she wants to.
You have tasted a blockbuster hit such as Kabir Singh after being an actor for 15 years. Do you think it will change the course of your career?
Just the fact that it happened, has already changed the course. The platform has been provided to me. Now, if I take this great opportunity and screw it up, then that’s my fault. But I will try not to (laughs). The opportunity has been given. Also, I strongly feel there’s never a wrong time for the right thing. Whenever it comes, it’s the right time.
Coming to all the criticism that Kabir Singh received, would all the talks make you think twice about taking up a similar character in the future?
Not really! Today, I feel liberated. Now, I know my relationship is with the audience. And if they got it, that matters the most. Everything else is just noise. It gives you clarity ke main yeh films kiske liye bana raha hoon. To me, the most exciting part about cinema is to play all kinds of characters. I was never obsessed with being this perfect man whom every woman wants. I’m here to play characters, good and bad, to be loved or hated for the traits of the characters. It’s just so difficult to make people hate you. And the fact that Kabir was hated in some parts, I take it as a compliment as it means I possibly did a good job with it.
Why do you think all the criticism has been unfounded?
For me, it’s a fundamental thing. You can’t impose your personal morality on a character, as he/she has its own morality. If I say that only a certain kind of film should and shouldn’t be made or watched, then I am saying that the entire country knows less than me. Then, you’re putting yourself on a pedestal. And it’s like living in a bubble of being intellectually superior. That bubble burst with Kabir Singh as people were like, ‘I am an adult and I will decide what I like.’ Just because they love a film, doesn’t mean they like the bad behaviour of a character. In the ’70s, when Mr [Amitabh] Bachchan played the angry young man, did people start shooting the cops? No, people don’t do that.
What’s your personal take on your character?
Did I like the way Kabir behaved in certain parts of the film? Not at all! But an actor’s job is to play a character without being afraid. It’s a coming-of-age of cinema wherein you have to show things the way they are. If there’s a problem in the society, what’s the first thing that you need to do? You must acknowledge that there is a problem and then address it. The job of films is to mirror life and show what happens and what can happen. If people today are saying that this kind of behaviour against a woman is unacceptable, it’s great that Kabir Singh has fuelled such a conversation.

There has also been chatter about your part being misogynist…
Yes, there were people who said that, ‘Kabir is a misogynist.’ But for me, he was badly-behaved across the board, starting with his grandmother. If he was very nice to men and badly behaved with women, then I’d have agreed that he is misogynistic. But his prejudice is not on the basis of gender since he has an anger management problem. He just loses control. So, that term was very propaganda-ish. I didn’t see any relevance in it. People, who watched the film from a neutral point of view, understood it. But those who came in with prejudice, didn’t see it in totality.
Recently, I came across a scene of Raj Kapoor and Nargis where they are having a very passionate fight. And I was like, ‘something like this got made at that time?’ So, I was very surprised that in today’s times, when people are watching Sanju, in which he puts a commode cover around his wife’s neck as a mangalsutra , why is everyone attacking only this film. It felt a bit strange. But I am happy to hear from people that they didn’t like the film. No issues! But it’s unacceptable that you tell other people not to like this film or that this film can’t be made.
In spite of everything, right now, how do you feel?
I really believe a lot in destiny. A lot of people say, ‘oh, you waited 15 years for a hit this size,’ but maybe, if I hadn’t waited for so long for this, I wouldn’t truly appreciate and respect it. Honestly, I feel failures make you a man. Even boys can do well when success is under their feet but when that carpet of success get pulled away, only the men can stand up and survive. The boys get knocked out. So, I feel all the failures that I have seen have made me who I am today. I am very thankful for the fact that it took so long for success to come my way, as I know it could have never happened.
Talking about fatherhood [with kids, Misha and Zain], what has it done to you?
You forget yourself to a large degree since you are so much in love with your kids, and just observing how they grow every day. It’s so fascinating and beautiful that you feel very satisfied. Nahi to life mein it’s like, ‘mujhe yeh karna hai, mujhe woh karna hai.’ Also, when kids are young, they are available to you. So, I would want to spend as much time as possible with them because I know after a point, they won’t have time for me, even if I have all the time for them.
