— VIVACE . . THE DISCOGRAPHY . . !
VIVACE is a fictional thirteen-member girl group formed by the survival show I-Doll, where seventy contestants competed for a chance to debut in a group under the company I-Teen Media. VIVACE is split into three active sub-units, but today, we’ll be talking about the main group’s music, which has captured the hearts of fans worldwide and solidified them as one of the best Kpop acts of the current generation. VIVACE has stated that they want their music to be reminiscent of the older generations in Kpop and music for girls all around the world to feel empowered by.
— 2019 - 2020 . . ORIGINS OF A SUPERSTAR . .
After the finale of I-Doll, I-Teen Media announced that VIVACE would debut in mid-September, leaving fans in anticipation of their upcoming debut. VIVACE officially debuted on September 17, 2019, with the self-titled mini album “VIVACE” consisting of five tracks, including the title track “Gee!”. VIVACE debuted with 63K album sales and Gee! charted #22 on the global charts within the first 24 hours. Gee!’s cute sound and second-gen influence attracted even more attention to the group, and by the end of the first week, both the title track and album topped the charts at #1.
With their debut a huge success, many waited for VIVACE’s first comeback, announced to be released in December of the same year. On December 12, 2019, their first single album, “QUEENDOM,” was released consisting of three tracks, including the title track, “Royalty.” Royalty captivated fans for its themes of self-love and upbeat lyrics but wasn’t enough to get it to more success than “Gee!” with Royalty charting #48 on global charts and QUEENDOM earning 15K album sales, a lot of netizens were saying VIVACE was one-hit wonders and would end up flopping after this comeback.
VIVACE would take a small break and focus on their sub-unit releases until they came back on July 5, 2020, with their second mini album, “SUMMER VACAY,” which consists of five tracks, counting the title track “Drunk In You”. Despite the low reception of “QUEENDOM”, SUMMER VACAY instantly trended for its catchy songs and fresh sound, which earned the album 98K album sales, and the entire album charted in the top ten on the global charts. SUMMER VACAY was known as the uprising of VIVACE and the start of their international stardom.
By their next comeback, VIVACE had become one of the biggest Kpop acts of 4th Gen, especially with all of the popularity their sub-units were getting. Their third mini album, “PAPARAZZI”, was released on October 24, 2020, with the album consisting of six tracks, including their breakout title track, “RUN”. RUN was a darker, more mature sound than what VIVACE usually did, but it ended up going viral just from the teasers alone, earning the album 283K sales and 8 million views in just the first 24 hours. Fresh off RUN's success, VIVACE released their first digital single, “Ladies Night”, on December 25, 2020, as a Christmas gift to fans. The song charted #2 on Melon and went #1 on global charts.
— 2021 - 2023 . . LIVIN’ IT LIKE A STAR . .
VIVACE took an almost year long hiatus as a group to further focus on sub-unit releases until they finally made a comeback with their first full album, “CELESTE”, on September 17, 2021. CELESTE is a two year anniversary album with thirteen tracks, including the title track, “YES, YOU”. CELESTE introduces a retro theme, which, despite not having done so before, fans say sounds authentically VIVACE. CELESTE sold 1.4 million copies, a huge jump from PAPARAZZI, after gaining an insane number of fans during the group’s hiatus. The entire album charted within the top 20, and the top 5 spots on the charts were all VIVACE. Fans refer to this era as the start of VIVACE’s prime.
With VIVACE releasing only CELESTE in 2021, fans went into 2022 hoping for a release sometime soon; they got their wish when VIVACE released their second full album, “MY IMPACT”, on April 19, 2022. MY IMPACT is an album consisting of 11 tracks along with the title track, “The Boys”, where VIVACE talks about their impact on the kpop industry and also empowers women not to let gender discrimination hold them back from their dreams. MY IMPACT sold almost 9 million copies, the most copies VIVACE has sold to this day, and most of the songs off the album charted within the top 10. MY IMPACT ended up being the most successful era they had so far with them winning Song Of The Year, Artist Of The Year, and almost winning Album Of The Year for 2022.
On November 13, 2022, VIVACE released their fourth mini album, “ALL I ASK”, consisting of six tracks, including the title track, “SAVE ME”. The album has a slower, elegant sound than some of their previous releases, earning the album 7 million album sales and the title track charting #3 in Korea and #9 internationally. ALL I ASK is known as one of VIVACE’s forgotten eras, a lot of fans even think VIVACE themselves don’t remember the album.
As a collaboration project with the Barbie Movie, VIVACE released “Barbie Girl”, their fifth mini album, on June 10, 2023. The album consists of five tracks, including their first English title track, “VALENTINE”. VIVACE promoted the album completely in the United States, and the album sold 7.8 million copies and charted #1 on iTunes. VALENTINE ended up being the end credits song, which attracted even more international fans to the group.
VIVACE’s most recent release, “1-800-LOVERGIRL”, is their second single album, released on December 29, 2023. It consists of three tracks, including the lead title track, “YOUNG LOVE.” 1-800-LOVERGIRL sold 6 million copies, and the title charted #2 on Korean charts and #5 on global charts. As of July 2024, VIVACE has not made any news on a comeback, including with any of their sub-units, leaving fans wondering when VIVACE will make a comeback.

International Women’s Day 2023: Accelerating Equality and Empowerment
Tumblr media
International Women’s Day is marked annually on March 8 in an effort to promote gender equality and build a more equitable society. The day honors Women and raises awareness of topics including equal rights for women, violence and abuse against women, and reproductive freedom. How did international Women’s Day start? The seeds were planted when 15,000 women marched through New York City in 1908 demanding less work, better pay, and the right to vote. The Socialist Party of America declared the first National Woman’s Day a year later. Making the day a global holiday was the idea of Clara Zethkin, a communist activist and defender of women’s rights. She floated the idea during a gathering of working women in Copenhagen in 1910. There were 100 women, from 17 different countries, and they all agreed to support her idea. International Women’s Day’s purpose: The goals of International Women’s Day are to celebrate women’s accomplishments and advance gender equality. This day also strives to promote gender equality by encouraging equal participation in social, economic, cultural, and political activities in order to guarantee that the most vulnerable people of our society have equal rights in all areas. How is Women’s Day celebrated? International Women’s Day is observed as a national holiday in a number of countries, including Russia, where flower sales increase in the three to four day leading up to March 8. A large number of Chinese women will have a half day off from work on March 8 in accordance with the State Council’s recommendation. Italy celebrates the Festa della Donna, or International Women’s Day, by exchanging mimosa blooms. This habit is said to have started in Rome after World War Two, however its exact origins are uncertain. In the US, March is observed as Women’s History Month. A presidential proclamation recognizes American Women’s achievements each year. Theme for IWD 2023 The United Nations Designated “DigitalALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality” as the year’s theme in order to highlight the significance of technology in bringing gender concerns to light. The website for International Women’s Day states, Equity is a necessity, not simply a pleasant to have. Every society needs to have a strong emphasis on gender equity. Understanding the distinction between equity and equality is also crucial. The IWD 2023 #EmbraceEquity campaign theme is to spread awareness about why equal opportunities are insufficient. According to the IWD website, equity takes into account that each person has unique circumstances and distributes the precise resources and opportunities required to produce an equal result, as opposed to equality, which refers to providing each person or group of people with the same resources or opportunities. Some facts about women in digital technology In 2022, only 63% of women would be internet users, compared to 69% of men, according to a forecast by International Telecommunication Union (ITU). According to a survey by the World Economic Forum (WEF), 75% of occupations by 2050 will be in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields. Yet, women only hold 22% of the role in the workforce today, to name just one industry. According to the Gender Snapshot report from 2022, a study of 51 nations found that 38% of women have personally encountered online assault. The potential for innovations that meet women’s needs and advance gender equality is increased when women are involved in technology. UNESCO’s message for this year In her message for this year’s International Women’s Day, UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay noted the importance of guaranteeing equal opportunity for women and girls while also ensuring that they benefit from the opportunities presented by technological change. She said that the theme for this year will be “Innovation and technology for gender equality”, noting that women are four times less likely to possess advanced ICT skills, make up less than 20% of the IT workforce, and just 12% of AI research is conducted. RJ's Platinum Collection #6: Pumpkin Jack
Tumblr media
Achieved on 7/23/2022 at 10:32 AM
I happened to stumble upon Pumpkin Jack when I was perusing the PlayStation store, and it happened to be on sale for like 7-10 bucks. I looked up a review of the game and was pleased to hear that it was a spooky and funny 3D platformer that harkened back to the classic days of games like Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet & Clank, etcetera. So I decided to get it and get its platinum!
So, our protagonist is none other than the infamous Pumpkin Jack himself, the legendary figure who tricked the Devil out of taking him to Hell when he died, only to end up as a ghost wandering the Earth forever when Heaven didn't want him either. Except now the Devil's undead army is being defeated by a powerful wizard, so the Devil gives Jack a pumpkin-headed body and promises to lift his curse if he helps him defeat the Wizard and unleash Hell on Earth.
Yeah. We're the bad guy in this one. And it's FUN.
The game consists of six levels, starting with the Fields. You start off with a Tutorial, and I also got my first crow skull collectible and my first weapon and three trophies as well.
1/33: Prying Eyes - Pick up your first crow skull.
2/33: Brand New Body - Finish the Tutorial.
3/33: Shovel Face - Equip the Legendary Holy Glory Shovel.
Using my new Legendary Holy Glory Shovel to kill a monster got me a fourth trophy.
4/33: Skull Breaker - Defeat a monster for the first time.
And then I stumbled upon the Vendor, who you can find in each level and purchase cool new outfits from.
5/33: Fashion Victim - Buy your first new outfit from the Vendor.
I then continued playing the first level and encountered a puzzle where my pumpkin head detached from Jack's body and had to smash up some crates.
6/33: Crash Boo-ndicoot - Solve the crate smashing puzzle in the barn.
I then found the other main collectible of the game, which are gramophones hidden on each level. When you find them, Jack does an absolutely awesome dance. Groove it on, pumpkin man.
7/33: Boogie-Man Wonderland - Find a gramophone and DANCE, DANCE, DANCE!
The crow skull collectibles were all also very easy to find. I had no problem finding all 20 of them in the Fields before I got to the final boss of the level, the Scarecrow, and defeated him for another trophy.
8/33: Skull Finder - Collect all crow skulls in the Fields.
9/33: Curse of the Scarecrow - Defeat the Scarecrow.
As I continued through the Mines, the Swamp, Skeletown, and the Graveyard, I realized that each level basically had the exact same set up. You do platforming and fighting, but you also do a pumpkin head puzzle, a rail sequence, and a boss fight, and each of those segments has their own trophy. So most of the trophies were unlocked simply by playing through the game. The crow skulls and gramophone collectibles were all easy to locate throughout the levels, and I also purchased each new outfit from the Vendor along the way.
10/33: Bomberman - Complete the bomb-bouncing courses in the Mines.
11/33: License to Drive - Complete the minecart-driving section.
12/33: Skull Hobbyist - Find all crow skulls in the Mines.
13/33: Ghostbuster - Defeat the Phantom.
14/33: De-Composer - Solve the musical mushroom puzzle.
15/33: Ghost Rider - Complete the ghost horse sequence.
16/33: Skull Collector - Collect all crow skulls in the Swamp.
17/33: Cruel Tea - Defeat the Witch and the Merchant.
18/33: Whack-a-Mole - Complete the whack-a-mole puzzle.
19/33: Formula Ugh - Beat the guards in the cart race.
20/33: Skull Aficionado - Collect all crow skulls in Skeletown.
21/33: The Bigger They Are... - Defeat Dhor.
22/33: High Flyer - Complete the gargoyle-flying sequence.
23/33: Ain't No Rest For The Wicked - Complete the headstone matching puzzle.
24/33: Skull Fanatic - Collect all crow skulls in the Graveyard.
25/33: Hunger Killer - Defeat Gluttony.
And then a plot twist I did not expect came - the sixth and final level is in the North Pole. At Santa's Workshop.
Yes, Pumpkin Jack has to fight Santa Claus. It's actually incredible.
Completing the North Pole also got me the trophies for finding all the crow skulls, all the gramophones, and purchasing all the Vendor's outfits. My favorite outfit was definitely the Buzzard, it made Pumpkin Jack look so badass.
26/33: The Worst Achievement Possible - Complete the Santa presents puzzle.
27/33: Disk Jockey - Found all of the gramophones in the game.
28/33: You'll Float Too - Reach the end of the vortex.
29/33: Skull Obsessive - Collect all crow skulls in the North Pole.
30/33: You've Got A Problem, Man - Collect all crow skulls in the entire game.
31/33: Full Closet - Purchase all outfits from the Vendor.
And then you had the final boss fight against the Wizard. Now, I'll be honest, all the other bosses were easy to beat - except this one. The Wizard took me over an hour to beat, as his attacks were tricky to dodge. But eventually I got it and got the platinum!
32/33: The Baddest Bad Guy - Defeat the Wizard.
33/33: Official Groupie - Unlock all of the trophies in the game.
This game really did feel like a classic PS1/PS2 era platformer. It was fun, quirky, well-written, and I enjoyed the dark and spooky but ultimately fun atmosphere of all the levels. The only downside I give it is that it is very short. I got this platinum in less than six hours, and one of those hours was spent on the final boss fight. But I still recommend this game!
Rating: 8/10

TIM TSZYU BATTLES IBF 154-POUND WORLD CHAMPION BAKHRAM MURTAZALIEV HEADLINING PBC ON PRIME VIDEO ACTION SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19 FROM THE CARIBE ROYALE RESORT IN ORLANDO, FL

Published: September 10, 2024
ORLANDO, FL. – Australian superstar and former world champion Tim Tszyu will challenge unbeaten IBF Super Welterweight World Champion Bakhram Murtazaliev in the 12-round main event of PBC on Prime Video action Saturday, October 19 live from the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida.
The event will begin at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, with the action streaming exclusively on Prime Video for all Prime members in the United States and select countries. Join today or start a free 30-day trial to catch the championship card. One of boxing’s most exciting rising stars, Tszyu will look to regain his status as world champion against the reigning unbeaten titleholder Murtazaliev in this high stakes main event. Additional undercard bouts available on Prime Video will be announced shortly.
Tickets for the live event go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday, September 4 at 12 p.m. ET will be available through Ticketmaster.
The event is promoted by TGB Promotions. The main event is promoted in association with No Limit Boxing and Main Events.
“Tim Tszyu is one of the most fan-friendly fighters in the sport and he proved it again in his last outing by battling through a gruesome cut to give fans 12 rounds of action,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “Most fighters would have bowed out, but Tszyu kept pushing forward and will bring that same mentality into this matchup against the reigning IBF 154-Pound World Champion Bakhram Murtazaliev. The super welterweight division is absolutely loaded with talent and the winner of this fight will be in excellent position to face the other big names at 154-pounds. It’s the perfect fight to headline action on Prime Video on Saturday, October 19 at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando.”
“Even before his spectacular win against Jack Culcay to earn the IBF title in Germany, Bakhram made it clear that he wanted Tim Tszyu next,” said Kathy Duva, CEO of Main Events. “He also said he wanted the matchup to happen in the U.S. so that everyone could see him fight, so I’m really happy that this deal came together to take place in front of a wide audience on Prime Video. Both of these fighters tend to come forward and engage and I would not be surprised if this turns out to be the Fight of the Year.”
“There are very few fighters in the world that can endure what Tim went through in his last fight and come out bigger, better and stronger than before,” said George Rose, CEO of No Limit Boxing. “Tim Tszyu is that guy. He lives to fight and has a warrior spirit that is completely unbreakable. You won’t want to miss this. He is about to remind everyone why he is the best 154 pounder in the world on October 19.”
Tszyu (24-1, 17 KOs) lost his WBO 154-Pound World Title in his last outing, as he took an incidental elbow from Sebastian Fundora in round three that opened up one of the most grisly cuts in recent boxing memory, and which severely hampered Tszyu on his way to losing a narrow split-decision on March 30.
The 29-year-old son of International Boxing Hall of Famer Kostya Tszyu, he came into that fight off a red-hot 2023 campaign that saw him elevated to world champion at 154-pounds while defeating former world champion Tony Harrison, top contender Brian Mendoza and former title challenger Carlos Ocampo. A native of Sydney, Australia, Tszyu made his U.S debut against U.S. Olympian Terrell Gausha in March 2022, earning a unanimous decision. Tszyu grew up playing soccer, but soon gravitated toward boxing. The decision led to him following in the legendary footsteps of his father, Kostya, who was an undisputed 140-pound champion.
“At this level, you have to take everyone out and Bakhram is the next guy standing in my way,” said Tszyu. “The world knows me and they know what I’m about. I’m thankful to my team for putting me in this position to prove why I’m still the man at 154 pounds. Bakhram has what I want and I plan on taking it from him in spectacular fashion. It’s time to become a two-time world champion.”
Now residing in Oxnard, California, the Russian Murtazaliev (22-0, 16 KOs) joined the ranks of world champion in his last outing as he looks to make his first title defense on October 19. Murtazaliev defeated Jack Culcay on his home turf of Germany in April of this year to win the IBF title with a dramatic 11th-round stoppage.
The 31-year-old has fought professionally since 2014 and debuted stateside in November 2016 with a knockout over the previously unbeaten Botirsher Obidov. Murtazaliev continued his climb with an impressive three-win 2019 campaign that culminated in a unanimous decision over Jorge Fortea in November that earned him the mandatory slot with the IBF. He’d go on to add four more victories between September 2020 and December 2022 before stepping into the title showdown against Culcay.
“I’m extremely happy and excited to defend my world title on Prime Video against a strong opponent like Tim Tszyu,” said Murtazaliev. “I just want Tim to be in the best shape possible and not get any injuries so we can give this fight to the fans.”

Origami Angel Announce New Album
Origami Angel will release Feeling Not Found on September 27th. Today they’ve shared two new songs from the album, “Dirty Mirror Selfie” and “Where Blue Light Blooms.” Track Listing * Lost Signal * Dirty Mirror Selfie * Where Blue Light Blooms * Viral * Underneath My Skin * Wretched Trajectory * AP Revisionist History * Living Proof * Fruit Wine * Sixth Cents (Get It?) * Secondgradefoofight * HM07 Waterfall * Higher Road * Feeling Not Found Press Release If you've got it, flaunt it––and all over the upcoming 14-track full length from Washington, D.C. duo  Origami Angel, that's exactly what vocalist/guitarist Ryland Heagy and drummer  Pat Doherty do. Simply put, their new album, Feeling Not Found, is the future of emo. Recorded with Grammy-nominated producer Will Yip (Turnstile, Title Fight, The Wonder Years) at Studio 4, Feeling Not Found revolves around the deeply modern experience teased in the title: an emotional and spiritual 404 error, a sensation of cellular-level malfunction and data corruption, of being lost in an oblivion of digital information, and the desperate struggle to reconnect to how it feels to be human and whole.  Origami Angel will headline a mammoth trek across the U.S. this fall in support of Feeling Not Found, and they're bringing along Arm's Length, Macseal, and Forests for support. All tickets go on sale this Friday. Two songs from Feeling Not Found are out today: "Dirty Mirror Selfie" may quickly rise in the ranks of the Origami Angel discography, with its furious pogo-ready riff plunging into a power-pop declaration of intent.“Where Blue Light Blooms,” a stunning, operatic track, finds Heagy and Doherty giving a workshop in outside-the-box songwriting and includes one of the most thrilling bridges you’ll hear on a rock song this year.  Origami Angel want to be the best like no one ever was, and so far, it seems like very little is going to stand in their way. Over the last few years, the duo has released some of the most exciting music to come out of the emo/pop-punk scene in years, and they're doing it their own way. Their 2019 LP, Somewhere City, has been called one of the best emo albums of the last 15 years by Consequence and their song "Doctor Whomst" called one of the 100 best emo songs of all time by Vulture. From that point forward, the duo has consistently reinvented expectations year-after-year––starting with 2021's massive double-LP, GAMI GANG,a pair of contrasting EPs in 2022 called re:turnand DE:PART, and a 2023 East Coast summer mixtape,The Brightest Days. Together, Heagy and Doherty are truly setting the tone for what the next decade of emo will sound like. Since the early aftermath of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, many major Western companies have been in various stages of divesting from Russia. Nearly a year and a half into the war, we’ve entered a new phase of business relations, as the Kremlin has started nationalizing foreign companies’ Russian assets. The latest watershed moment occurred on April 25, when Putin issued an executive order allowing the Russian authorities to place the Russian assets of companies from “unfriendly nations” under the state’s “temporary administration.” As a result, Russia seized the assets of Uniper Russia, including Uniper’s 84% stake in the power generation company Unipro, which was valued at $5.5 billion before the invasion.
More recently, earlier this week, President Putin placed the Russian subsidiaries of French yogurt maker Danone and Danish brewer Carlsberg under the Russian state’s “temporary management,” effectively seizing these businesses. The Federal Property Management Agency has already entrusted Danone Russia’s CEO position to Ramzan Kadyrov’s nephew.
For some guidance through this tumultuous period of international sanctions and elite business politics in Russia, Meduza spoke to Alexandra Prokopenko, a nonresident scholar at the Carnegie Russia Eurasia Center, who worked at Russia’s Central Bank and at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow from 2017 until early 2022.
Timestamps for this episode:
(2:15) Putin seizes Unipro
(4:23) Putin seizes Danone Russia and Baltika
(8:55) Has the war been good for business?
(12:59) Where’s the business community stand on the invasion?
(15:26) The fight over Western assets
(17:23) Chinese business interests (and unease) in all these confiscations and fire sales

Why investors may want to limit international market exposure
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Investors may want to reduce international exposure right now and stick with the home court.According to Main Management CEO Kim Arthur, global markets will meaningfully struggle due to the softening greenback."One of the highest predicting factors for future performance of international stocks versus U.S stocks is what the U.S dollar does," Arthur told CNBC's "ETF Edge" this week. "From 2011 to 2022, the dollar was in a straight bull market, so you were gonna lose in international equities no matter what you did."On Friday, the U.S. dollar index hit a 15-month low. It comes about 10 months after it hit a 10-year high."The dollar topped last September, okay? So you really have to have an opinion on where the dollar is going. We personally think the dollar is heading down," said Arthur.Arthur, who was head of Bank of America's institutional sales and trading department, believes the dollar will eventually return to a period of strengthening."We are way ahead of the rest of the world in terms of fighting inflation. Our inflation numbers are lower than the rest of the world. Our interest rates are higher than the rest of the world," said Arthur. "So what does that mean? That's a perfect setup where we're going to be cutting rates before the rest of the world. And that differential leads to a stronger dollar."ETF Action Founding Partner Mike Akins cites another market dynamic that could hurt global stocks: the strong appetite for U.S. mega-cap technology stocks."You see more and more flows continuing to go into U.S. stocks. … Very little money is going into the international marketplace. And that kind of just creates itself," Akins said. "I'm not sure what the catalyst is there, other than to say that it has to start with those big names: Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Tesla, now Google . Those names that are creating this multiple expansion for the broader S&P 500 because they make up such a large percentage of it. That's where the catalysts will have to be to see value come back, to see international come back to see emerging come back."As of Friday's close, the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF is up 8% this year. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 is up 17%. Source link Read the full article

India’s smartphone shipments fall by 6% in 2022, with the first-ever Q4 decline
Tumblr media
India’s smartphone shipments fall by 6% in 2022, with the first-ever Q4 decline. Canalys research shows that India’s smartphone shipments fell to 151.6 million units in 2022, declining by 6% compared with 2021. 2022 began with intermittent supply issues and low demand caused by global macroeconomic headwinds. India’s smartphone market suffered its first-ever drop in shipments in the fourth-quarter holiday period, falling by 27% to 32.4 million. Samsung took the number one spot in Q4 2022 for the first time since Q3 2017, shipping 6.7 million units for a market share of 21%. Second place went to vivo, which shipped 6.4 million units, mainly via offline channels. After 20 quarters, Xiaomi lost its leadership position in Q4 2022 and fell to third place with shipments of 5.5 million units. For full-year 2022, Xiaomi was still the number one vendor. OPPO and realme remained in fourth and fifth place, with shipments of 5.4 million and 2.7 million units respectively. India’s smartphone shipments fall by 6% in 2022, with the first-ever Q4 decline “India was better positioned to weather the global downturn than other markets. But domestic consumer spending cooled in the last few months of 2022,” said Sanyam Chaurasia, Analyst at Canalys. “Even during the festive season, the domestic market suffered a fall in transactions, retail spending and electronic imports. In 2022, consumers already had up-to-date technology that they had bought during the pandemic, thereby delaying further purchases. This led to smartphone brands struggling with inventory management because demand was subdued. Vendor channel management strategies became more important than ever. The mid-to-high-end segment performed well this year, which will further catalyze the upgrade cycle.” “Vendors that were focused predominantly on online channels suffered from a poor ecommerce festive sales performance in Q4 2022,” added Chaurasia. “Xiaomi aimed to clear out inventory of its older models using the ecommerce channel. But, due to poor ecommerce festive sales performance, Xiaomi and realme saw significant stockpiling of their products in online channels in Q4 2022. At the same time, in tier-three and tier-four cities, vivo and OPPO focused on offline channels, which helped them to be the only vendors to grow year on year. With strength in the retail channel to drive volume, Samsung continues to target consumers across routes to market.” “After a rollercoaster 2022, India’s potential is still intact in the long term,” said Chaurasia. “The Indian economy started to feel the impact of the global economic slowdown toward the end of 2022. We are entering 2023 with economic indicators suggesting a sluggish performance in the short term. But, in 2024, India is set to hold its general election and the government’s strategy will be to boost consumers’ purchasing power, even if inflation remains high. Growth in the mass-market segment remains vital for smartphone vendors and will depend on many uncertain macroeconomic factors. Canalys expects moderate growth in the Indian smartphone market in 2023 fueled by a replacement cycle driven by 5G devices, state government deals, smartphone penetration and the introduction of new use cases.”

EC Healthcare Expects Third Quarter FY23 Sales Volume to Increase
Tumblr media

HONG KONG, Jan 20, 2023 - (ACN Newswire) - EC Healthcare (the "Company", which together with its subsidiaries is referred to as the "Group", SEHK stock code: 2138), the largest non-hospital medical group in Hong Kong*, is pleased to announce that the Group expects sales volume for the period of October to December 2022 (the "Quarter") to increase by no less than 8% as compared with the same period last year.
The demand on medical services provided by the Group remains strong and the Group's increasingly diversified business demonstrated resilience and good momentum. The Board expects to record overall sales volume of no less than HK$1,000 million for the Quarter, representing a no less than 8% YoY increase. The Group expects to achieve a no less than 39% YoY increase for medical services sales volume. Sales volume of aesthetic medical and beauty and wellness services in Hong Kong and Macau declined by no more than 17% YoY, while sales volume of aesthetic medical and beauty and wellness services in Mainland China declined by no more than 50% YoY during the Quarter. The decrease in aesthetic medical and beauty and wellness services was mainly due to (i) weaker local consumer spending due to increase in outbound traveling amid the lifting of inbound quarantine restrictions; (ii) the pessimistic economic outlook and weak local consumer sentiment caused by high inflation and rising interest rate; and (iii) the omicron outbreak in Mainland China. In addition, the sales volume of other services declined by no less than 8% YoY.
Mr. Eddy Tang, Chairman, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of EC Healthcare said, "The Group is pleased to see the initial phase of border re-opening between Hong Kong and Mainland implemented earlier this year and the Mainland visitors started to return on a gradual basis. With the leading brand and one-stop diversified services, the Group has always been the top choice for medical tourists. The Group has maintained its leading position in the aesthetic medical industry while significantly strengthening its medical services capabilities. In addition, the Group's continuous investment in IT systems and industry value chain integration has enabled the Group to seize the growth opportunity and capture demand from medical tourists. The Group will provide quality, affordable, accessible and sustainable healthcare services to a wider range of customers and continue to expand its businesses through organic growth as well as mergers and acquisitions to enrich the Group's enclosed diversified ecosystem. The Group will also further enhance the resilience and ability to resist cyclical economic changes and further consolidate the healthcare market."

Teofimo Lopez Defends his WBO Junior Welterweight World Title against Jamaine Ortiz on Thursday, Feb. 8 at Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS —The Showman is ready to deliver a spectacle. Teofimo Lopez will defend his WBO and Ring Magazine junior welterweight world titles against Jamaine Ortiz on Thursday, Feb. 8, at Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. In the 10-round lightweight co-feature, U.S. Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn Davis steps up against former two-division world champion Jose Pedraza. Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Takeover Promotions and CES Boxing, tickets are on sale now at AXS.com.    Lopez-Ortiz and Davis-Pedraza will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT. Lopez (19-1, 13 KOs) captured the IBF lightweight world title in December 2019 via second-round knockout victory against Richard Commey. In October 2020, he beat Vasiliy Lomachenko to securing the WBA, WBO, and WBC Franchise titles, but lost them to George Kambosos Jr. by a stunning split decision 13 months later. He moved up to junior welterweight with a seventh-round TKO against Pedro Campa in August 2022 and defeated Sandor Martin via split decision that December. In his last fight, Lopez shocked the boxing world by defeating former undisputed champ Josh Taylor to earn the WBO and Ring Magazine titles.  Ortiz (17-1-1, 8 KOs) dropped a competitive 12-round decision to pound-for-pound great Vasiliy Lomachenko in October 2022 before returning 11 months later to secure a 10-round decision over Antonio Moran in his junior welterweight debut. Following a recent training session at the Top Rank Gym in Las Vegas, this is what Lopez had to say: “Before all of this and before I fought Josh Taylor, I used to take a break. I used to not really train so much. I used to not always be in the gym. But after I got everything back and became a two-division world champion, I started staying in the gym. My trainer, who is my father, always wanted me to stay in the gym. So, I started doing that last August. Since then, I’ve gotten faster. I’ve gotten much stronger. My I.Q. is much sharper. And it’s because I haven’t stopped training since August of last year. And I’m not going to stop. After I beat Jamaine Ortiz, then I will keep staying in the gym.”   “The end result is that ‘The Showman’ is returning. There will definitely be a knockout. It’s not going the distance. I’m not going to leave it in the judges' hands at all. So, everyone tune in, and get your popcorn ready.”   “It’s been a long journey. And I know what it takes. I don’t want to be known as a fighter who knows how to get to the top but doesn’t know how to keep it. So, I want everyone to tune in so they can see how much I truly love the sport of boxing.”
