The Sala della Stufa, Pallazo Pitti, Florence. The Palazzo Pitti is quite possibly my favourite palace in all of Italy. I say this because of the colourful and eventful history that is attached to this vast residence, from its original intended owner Luca Pitti, to The Medici dynasty, the Lorraine dynasty and Napoleon. I’m particularly interested in the period when The Medici family occupied it. They filled its lush and lavish interior with magnificent renaissance art and works of sculpture that can still be seen today. They laid the foundations for the fabled Boboli Gardens, and the mythical grottos that are hidden away on the grounds. It was such a privilege to tour the Pitti Palace. I was lucky enough to study the renaissance, and this great family, who bankrolled a boom in art, science and philosophy.
