Handheld Fighting Games of 89/94 - Sakigake Otokojuku Meiōtō Kessen
Sakigake Otokojuku: Meiōtō Kessen is a one-on-one fighting game released for the Game Boy on August 4, 1990, based on the popular manga Sakigake Otokojuku. The game places players in the role of a new student at Otoko Jyuku, a special school for troubled teens that uses a harsh, feudal-style system to discipline its students. The gameplay revolves around dueling, with players engaging in side-scrolling battles where they must use their bo-stick to defeat a series of opponents, each wielding their own unique weapons. The game’s structure is built around a progression of battles, where the player must overcome one contender after another.
The game features a single-player "story" mode, complete with cutscenes made up of still images that advance the narrative between fights, providing context for each duel. Additionally, a two-player Vs. mode allows players to compete against each other using the Game Boy Game Link Cable.

2023/09/06 - Hirano Ryo's Twitter Post
Thank you for coming at today's performance.
I need to improve the combination of reason and emotion.
After the performance ended, we've trained hard, Otokojuku* style.
*Sakigake!! Otokojuku or simply Otokojuku is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Akira Miyashita. It is staged in an all-boys school that teaches how to be true men.

Gabriels: Fist of the Seven Stars
So, it was only toward the end of my high school years and beginning of college that I was really getting into Fist of the North Star among other things. The series that undoubtedly can be seen as the root or the inspiration of so many great stories we know today; Sakigake Otokojuku, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (especially parts 1-3 and early Part 4), Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo, Toriko, etc.
In that same time frame I was already into Power Metal thanks to a friend of mine who lived out in the west coast. There was a particular song that I had greatly enjoyed from the Anime's soundtrack, Heart of Madness. Now, I figured it was worth seeing if there were any covers of this song, which in turn led to me discovering the band Gabriels. As I'd discovered to my sheer delight, the band is effectively retelling the story of Fist of the North Star, but over the course of several albums, each being their own act.
What I have here in this post is their cover of Heart of Madness, a bonus song on "Fist of the Seven Stars Act 2: Hokuto Brothers"
youtube
These albums are a fantastic way to experience Kenshiro's journey through the land of the century's end, especially if you are already familiar with the original story itself.
