37, fav side character: this is a tough one, it was really hard to choose from the MMJ side characters, I adore them all. I think my favorite is Saito though,,

49, I headcanon a lot by taking things I see in canon further than they already are, so this was also tough. I'll answer with the hc that Minori was a bit of a social outcast (besides a few close friends, like Chihiro, I think that was her name? From Dear Me as I Was Back Then) before she attended Miyajou, but not just because of her bad luck but also because of being perceived by people as dumb and naive, obsessive, and sometimes "too much". Like the person that everybody knew and would say hi to in the halls, but not many people ever genuinely tried to reach out to or show deeper compassion to. yes this still has some basis in canon but the basis is much less clear than other hcs I have I think

50, oooooo okay, I'm not sure if this a hot take or not but. I think it's time to stop saying "characters can exist outside of ships!!" (And it's interesting to me that I see the above sentiment a lot more when it's f/f groups, perhaps it's just the content I expose myself to, but still) whenever people bring up duos/groups of characters and focus on the characters' development through the lens of their relationship of them with the others in the duo/group. cough cough Anhane cough cough (especially relevant to Anhane because SO MUCH OF THEIR GROWTH AND CONFLICT CENTERS AROUND THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH EACH OTHER. AIBOU LOVE AIBOU LOREEEEE!!!). I think people are starting to use "characters can exist outside of ships!!" in the wrong situations and too often. Characters don't exist in a vacuum at all, analyzing relationships often takes the form of shipping in people's minds, and that is absolutely not a bad thing in of itself.

Open The Introduction To Dragongate by Scar The Skelly [UNAFFILIATED PART 2]

Almost there! I was going to make the Unaffiliated sections just 2 parts, but I've had to do 3, so I don't overload you.

Genki Horiguchi

If you don’t know, Blood Generation (CIMA, Doi, Yoshino) vs Do FIXER (Kid, Genki, Saito) is possibly the most well-known match of Dragongate’s for foreign fans, getting 5 stars from Meltzer.

This freaky look included long extensions to his remaining hair and coloured contacts that made his pupils into black crosses with the rest of his eye being white. Here’s an image for reference. Extentions and contacts are elements that have continued in his look to this day, but now it’s much less eerie.

Now you may be wondering why Genki didn’t become a Jimmy like everyone else, but he actually did. Please, if you will, look closely at specifically the Gee.Mee part of his name…Gee.Mee…Jimi?

Takashi Yoshida

By varying levels of sanity, I mean it seems like sometimes he was more animalistic, and sometimes he was less animalistic. When he was a heel, it seemed he was less in touch with his human side, with his promos being complete gibberish.

Ho Ho Lun

Ho Ho would tag with Jason on numerous occasions during the Jason Lee Saga and had to deal with the antics from Z-Brats, High End and Natural Vibes just as much as Jason did. Ho Ho was pretty concerned for Jason himself, and seemed to want to help Jason out of the situation he was in, but he simply could not compete with 3 other units.

This all came to a head when Ho Ho and Jason had a singles match on the day of the Unit Decision match, which would give the group that won the chance to appeal to Jason, and he could choose to join them if he so wished. Jason had seemingly been worn down by Shun and showed the early signs of a heel turn during the match, with Jason getting the win over Ho Ho via low blow.

Ho Ho would appear on comms later in the show, audibly frustrated and saddened by the turn of events. It turned out Jason pretended to be turning to the dark side and joining Shun to trick him. To apologise for fucking with Ho Ho, Jason joined the first iteration of Kung Fu Masters.

Ho Ho is a joy on English commentary, and Jae and Ho Ho make up my favourite English commentary table in puro right now.

Punch Tominaga

Apparently, it took him so long to debut because he wasn’t a very good trainee and got in a lot of trouble with his seniors. Which is why in matches nowadays, you will witness guys like Don Fujii go after him.

Even now, when Shingo returns to Dragongate, Punch is there to be his second. They seem to be quite close even outside the ring.

Mondai Ryu

Kzy’s Mondai impression is potentially his best work.

His Luchas de Apuestas record consists of 2 matches. The first is CIMA vs Mondai in a passport vs mask match. The second is Punch Tominaga (then known as Chihiro Tominaga) vs Mondai in a hair vs entrance theme match. Both Mondai lost, but apparently, he just…didn’t unmask after the match with CIMA.

I should mention the powder here, as it is quite important. It's chalk powder that is thrown in the eyes to blind people, and has been used by almost if not all the heel units that have existed in Dragongate.

Underrated current theme song, I really like it (it’s called Naughty Guy and it’s a bop).

Is referred to by some fans by the nickname he gave himself during his time as a heel in Mad Blankey, International Problem Dragon.

Yosuke Santa Maria

I would say the most well-known exotico is Cassandro, although you may also know of Dulce Gardenia of CMLL who used to come over for New Japan’s Fantasicamania tours.

Eita and Maria were in Millennials together, but the two drifted a part due to Eita turning heel. However, when Eita was kicked out of R.E.D he was left with nobody to defend him from attacks from his former group…except for Maria that is. She came to Eita’s aid and the two began to have a relationship which…can only be described as some sort of BDSM Dysfunctional romance? There was D/S elements, hair-pulling, a little bit of humiliation and using a whip as a makeshift collar/leash?

Maria seems to be a very loyal friend. She returned this year to save Kzy because they were in Tribe Vanguard and Dragongate Generation together. She’s a sweetheart.

Maria ended up suffering two broken bones in her back due to a traffic accident which is what caused her lengthy absence.

Important to mention that Maria was the one responsible for Yasushi Santa Kandy (who has already made an appearance on Kanda’s slide) BxB Harumi and Hyosuke Santa Maria.

For a behind the scenes clip for Prime Zone she even did half of U-T’s face in her makeup (and half of her face so they mirrored each other!)

Y'know what'd be super chill to see?

Non-Despair AU. The main-game casts are in their mid-20s getting their careers going, the WoH have just graduated Hope's Peak, everyone's taken up residence in Towa City. Chihiro, Kazuichi, and Miu work for Towa Group, pretty much giving them all some control over the city itself (you don't know how many times they've had to bail their classmates and the Warriors of Hope out of legal trouble).

... Although, with these characters being the clowns they are, Towa City's definitely become their own personal playground at this point, now that I think about it. They're rich and famous, live life to the fullest lmao.

(Hey, bring in the DVHS cast if ya want! The Warriors of Hope could use some company around the same age.)

I'd keep DVHS as a year younger than the Warriors, so yeah around their age, and I'd still want Yasu and Saito to have those kind of older connections with the Warriors like I had in DVHS. I think they'd be pretty close, at least on individual levels!

Estoy amando esto mucho más de lo que esperaba~

El trio de colores primarios regresa a la pantalla luego de dos capítulos especiales preciosos, así que no le quiten peso aunque no sean parte del producto animado ;9

Anteriormente nos muestran que Akira, Banri y Chihiro tienen mucho talento para el canto y que pueden armonisar perfectamente como componentes de equipo. Sin embargo, su primer obstáculo se eleva frente a ellos más pronto de lo que esperaban: el baile.

Como varios personajes de Saito, Lin, tiene esa personalidad dulcemente diabólica. Sin mala intención, claro. Así que consigue que LEGIT participe de un comercial, y de paso propone a los novatos para acompañarlos como apoyo aunque tengan nula experiencia en aquel campo.

Sí, es perverso...

Hacen una primera prueba para medir su nivel, y evidentemente son malos en ello... Pero quién peor lo lleva es el pequeño Akira.

Para enfrentar este conflicto, y preparar a sus inexpertos kouhais, los chicos de LEGIT se encargan de instruirlos personalmente. Sinceramente, el emparejamiento que hiceron me sorprendió un poco. Ya estaba acostumbrada que "el eslabón más débil" fuese entrenado por el más experimentado, par aver ese crecimiento mágico donde la abismal diferencia entre ambos personajes desapeciera por mero guionazo. Gracias al cielo no fue así. Daba un poco de miedo imaginar a Daiki gritándole por todo a Akira. De modo que Taiki corregiría a Chihiro, Eishiro trabajaría con Banri y Fuuga se encargaría del milagro.

Esta distribución lógica, nos daría también una excusa para conocer más de Fuuga quién, así como Akira es el que menos conocimiento posee de este nuevo entorno, también se integró al mundo de los idols sin pretender ser uno al comienzo.

(No dejo de pensar que se parece mucho a Albedo ywy)

Fuuga le menciona que muchas veces se cuestiona si realmente es valioso como producto o si no está siendo un lastre para sus compañeros, quienes tienen metas muy altas, y que se esfuerza porque quiere ser un apoyo para ellos también.

El plazo de dos semanas se reduce a la mitad y los esfuerzos de Akira no son suficientes para alcanzar un nivel "presentable" de baile, lo que acentúa sus inseguridades y lo lleva a pedir a Chihiro y Banri que se presenten sin él para no arrastrarlos con su ineptitud.

Entonces mi personaje favorito nos deleita con su infinita sabiduría ywy 💕

El misterio de Akira es revelado cuando le cuenta a Banri y Chihiro el motivo por el cual dejó el béisbol, siendo este el error que cometió en un partido decisivo y que le costó la derrota a su equipo. Desde entonces Akira teme el no poder ser un apoyo para los demás y arrastralos al fracaso por su falta de habilidad.

Chihiro le comenta a Akira que siempre ha sido muy afortunado de tener personas a su alrededor que lo apoyan incondicionalmente, algo qué él no posee y por ese motivo solo puede seguir adelante en sus decisiones y demostrarle a los demás sus capacidades. En serio tengo muchas ganas de conocer su historia ywy

También le comparte su perspetiva de lo que es ser un idol: aquel que carga con el esfuerzo, sueños y esperanzas de quienes trabajan con él y de quiénes los apoyan. Esto resuena con el corazón de Akira, recordándole la admiración que sentía por los héroes de anime, y lo que le llevó a jugar al béisbol desde pequeño.

Así, Chihiro y Banri, con la ayuda de la tecnología, aconsejan y acompañan a Akira para que pueda cumplir con el plazo de cuatro días impuesto por Eishiro. Esto no solo sería en beneficio de Akira, también fortalecería la confianza en el naciente PROTOSTAR~

Me encanta que usen estos pequeños detalles como las redes sociales para cosas útiles y no solo para crear bolas de nieve de drama como en otras series. (Igual depende de las circunstancias)

Finalmente, Akira pasa la prueba, ambos grupos dan su mejor esfuerzo y el comercial es un éxito, donde podemos tener un montón de flashbacks del primer ending de Free!... (Lo siento, tenía que expresarlo, yo sí los tuve xD)

Pero Lin ya tiene nuevos planes para su grupo de novatos~ De verdad que es malvado xD

En lo personal tengo un conflicto con las obras que son demasiado positivas (me recuerdan a alguien que preferiría no tener demasiado presente), pero esta serie las lleva muy bien, todo parece tener su origen y se van revelando poco a poco.

Sigo pensando que Chihiro es mucho más de lo que esperaba, simplemente tiene esa pinta del típico chico que pretende hacer todo por su cuenta y que ve a los demás como meros peones, pero en cuanto abre la boca es la encarnación de la empatía y la sensatez. Amo mucho que destruyeran tan fuerte mi prejuicio con el personaje, porque es simplemente precioso ywy 💕
