Marie of Luxembourg, Countess of Saint-Pol and Soissons and Vendôme
Marie of Luxembourg, Countess of Saint-Pol, Soissons and Vendôme from the Book of Hours of Catherine de’Medici While researching my book about the women of Burgundy, the name of Marie of Luxembourg arose as she married her maternal uncle Jacques of Savoy, Count of Romont. Yolande of France, Duchess of Savoy, had to contend with the political shenanigans of Jacques during her reign as regent for…

Victory and death of the Chevalier de Saint Pol, 1704, by Theodore Gudin, 1839
On 31 October 1704, the Chevalier de Saint-Pol de Hécourt (1665-1704), commander of the Salibury, attacked a heavily escorted English convoy on the Dogger Bank, which was completely captured. Saint-Pol was killed early in the action.

Today, March 12th, is the feast day of Saint Paul Aurelian, also known as Saint Pol de Léon.
After a pagan king killed the saints Tadec and Judulus, God sent a dragon to punish the king. But Paul saved the king by leashing the dragon and made him convert to christianity.
Later Paul came to Lampaul, where another dragon plagued the people. It turned out that it was the child of Paul's dragon, so he sent his dragon to fetch its child and then banished both of them into the wilderness.
Later he tamed a third dragon at Île de Batz.

Mallarmé was a “master of the dream.” Saint-Pol-Roux declared: “We are the pioneers of the Beyond,” and E.L.T. Mesens said: “Even when asleep, we are tireless.”

paul mccartney in the axillary pose:
passive, disempowered, and vulnerable, enacting the feminization of the male figure, or at least the proposal of an alternative masculinity
and
soft flesh, full lips, defenseless armpits, supple belly, and bare groin
in Clifton's words. You can read the whole essay here (it's very good): The Erotics of the Axillary Pose by James Clifton

So you know how the US was still on the “right side of history” during WW2 against the NAZIS but still, y’know, committed human rights atrocities against black people for existing? Now put that in perspective with today’s rhetoric and maybe see how, before the US joined the war against fascism, there were active KKK rallies in DC and we (like Italy) were NOT on the right side until things escalated so like… keep that in mind
