Chapter 2 of The Ocean's Soul is out now!

As Gem’s eyes looked over the Siren’s body, at the different scales and fins, she finally looked once more at the Siren’s face…and her green eyes were met with the prettiest of blues. Those eyes…they were a deep shade of blue, and Gem could swear she could see specks of white as well. It was like looking into a clear night sky…together with white moons staring right into her soul.

OKAY SO

At the very start of the season, Docm77 built a world-eater to blast a 500 x 500 block hole right down to bedrock to use as space for his farms and base, called the Perimeter. The Perimeter is right next to where Grian, MumboJumbo, and GoodTimesWithScar settled their own bases. This is all setup for one of the wildest prank wars in Hermitcraft history.

It all started because Grian didn’t want to finish the back of his base. He didn’t want to finish it so bad that GeminiTay, ImpulseSV, and Scar held an intervention to get him to finish it, that he PROMPTLY managed to distract Scar from and they both raced off next door to see Doc’s latest game-defying contraption - a redstone tunnel bore in the wall of the Perimeter. That they managed to blow up. They did their best to rebuild it, but these two are builders and not redstoners and therefore had No Idea how to do that, so they just left a little apology present and got the fuck out of dodge.

Unfortunately for them Doc doesn’t do apology presents too well! So he fired back by setting a trap for Grian that blew up Mumbo’s front door (I still don’t know whether or not that was intentional or a slight misfire), and managed to hang DOZENS of wither skulls (you know, the ones the wither shoots out of its heads?? the exploding ones?? yeah those) in midair over the main square of Scar’s theme park.

So now that there’s three wronged parties (two perpetrators and an innocent bystander), they got together to form The Buttercups to band together and fight the goat. Grian egged the Perimeter with hundreds of chickens, they built a cute little hippie camp on the edge of the Perimeter, Doc made flying butterflies to blow up Grian and Mumbo’s bases, both parties made giant robots to fight each other, Doc enlisted Rendog to help spy on the Buttercups by building a secret room under their camp and stuffing sniffers in there, the Buttercups graffitied the Perimeter with a goddamn Live Laugh Love sign, Doc tore it down and replaced it with a trapped Grind Optimize Automate Thrive (G. O. A. T., if you notice) sign that ended up blowing up their camp and all the sniffers underneath, at some point Doc also covered the Buttercup’s bases with hundreds of duped dragon eggs but I can’t remember when that happened in the timeline, and then like half of the involved parties went on vacation.

Grian came back first and he had the brilliant (“bRiLlIaNt”) idea to just. Cover the entire Perimeter. All 250,000 blocks of it. But not in one flat plane of dirt, no no NO. This man is a BUILDER. And Scar is a builder too. These motherfuckers TERRAFORMED it. Planted trees and everything. But since it was a race against the clock to beat Doc getting back on the server, they hijacked the weekly Hermitcraft meeting to be all “hey anyone wanna help us cover the Perimeter?” AND THEY GOT LIKE SEVEN PEOPLE TO HELP. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH THAT LITERALLY NOBODY EXCEPT MUMBO, GRIAN, SCAR, REN, AND DOC WERE EVER INVOLVED IN THIS WAR AND YET THE SPIRIT OF HERMITCRAFT IS JUST THAT NOBODY CAN RESIST A POINTLESS ENDEAVOR TO FUCK WITH THEIR FRIENDS. I SAY POINTLESS BECAUSE DOC CLEANED IT UP QUICKLY AND EASILY.

Anyway. They threw the Perimeter under a rug and all their videos dropped one after the other like right before Doc came back, and the man lost his shit swearing bloody bloody vengeance on everyone involved on Twitter. Hermitcraft is a family-friendly server, right, and in his latest video he opened it saying it was REALLY hard to not swear like a sailor. This whole thing is wild and you really gotta watch at least the Hermitcraft Recap to get it all, cuz I know I forgot some things

Empires SMP S1

Eventually, empires once more were formed where Ephedia once stood. The empires of The Grimlands, The Crystal Cliffs, The Cod Empire, The Lost Empire, House Blossom, the Ocean Empire, Gilded Helianthia, Pixandria, Mythland, Rivendell & The Undergrove were built and thrived on the grounds, each kingdom soon able to feel the influence of the magic that lived there, though only three empires could actually wield the magic there. Those empires were Gilded Heliantha, The Ocean Empire and The Crystal Cliffs. Grand Wizard GeminiTay was the first to master this magic, with Queen Lizzie being the second. It was believed that Farmer Queen Pearl was also able to use this magic but it is unknown if she ever did as she died with her empire before any information could be obtained.

Formation of Sirenix

When Queen Lizzie ate the Ocean Orb and gained her Blue Axolotl form, she also received a special gift of power known as Sirenix. This magic was the essence of the Ocean and formed from the Ocean's Blessing that was granted to Lizzie, who became its power source and known as the Life of Sirenix. Sirenix was a counter of sorts to the biggest weakness of Fairies and Witches, water. Water disrupted their magic, so Sirenix allowed for free use of it underwater without the negative repercussions.

Along with this new power source, Lizzie was given a special series of items know as Sirenix Boxes. These boxes held the Guardians of Sirenix, creatures who were created when Lizzie became the source and would forever protect her and Sirenix itself.

The Sirenix Quest

In order to ascertain who would and wouldn't be allowed to wield Sirenix power and protect the Ocean Empire, Queen Lizzie held the Sirenix Quest, a trial of riddles that would test those who wished to obtain Sirenix.

For Fairies, it required them to find six gems: Empathy, Courage and Self-Confidence on land and Resilience, Creativity and Balance underwater. These gems would then be placed inside the Source of Sirenix, a giant glowing pearl with spots carved inside for the gems to be lain. For Witches, it required them to find six pieces of the a circlet, three on land and three underwater. These pieces would then be crafted into the Abyssal Charm, a circlet that would be cloned into however many Witches had found and brought it back.

For this challenge, Fairies were granted Harmonix, and Witches, Disharmonix, a temporary form akin to Sirenix and Dark Sirenix, but far less powerful and only needed for completion of the quest. The Guardians of Sirenix were also instructed to aid those who undertook the quest, and if one succeeded, their Guardian could grant them a singular wish, the limits unknown. All information of the quest, the history, everything one could wish for was compiled by Lizzie into the Sirenix Book, intended to forever live on.

The Cosmic Crystals and Solar Shards

Shortly after the wedding between Queen Lizzie and King Joel, Joel found himself enraptured in a very specific item found in the Crystal Cliffs. Magical shards from a series of crystals known as "Cosmic Crystals" had been uncovered by Grand Wizard Gem. These crystals were originally from an End, a very special End, a space farther away than anyone could know.

Pieces of these crystals had broken away and were dubbed "Solar Shards" for the bright golden color they held, akin to that of the sun. These shards held immense power that could transform and imbue those who used it with very special powers derived from all sorts of places. King Joel of Mezalea would go on to fashion them into a special pen that allowed them to become the Solar Soldiers of Mezalea.

The Solar Soldiers of Mezalea

Throughout the time of the many Empires, a furious foe named Xornoth had made itself known to them all. With corruption rising, many empires were on edge. Shortly after the wedding between Queen Lizzie and King Joel, Mezalea and The Ocean Empire had been seeking out ways to defend themselves against Xornoth's power. Joel, who had been tinkering with the Solar Shards with Gem, decided to take inspiration after those who wielded Ephedian magic (Lizzie, Katherine, Shubble "Shrub/Shelby", Pearl and Gem) and created the "Solor Soldiers". Their name was for how they were meant to act as the royal navy of Mezalea.

The Solar Soldiers were a group of empowered individuals, similar in nature to the Ephedian Empresses except this time, they were not limited by the rules of Ephedia's magic, instead running on their own rules for the power they wielded. These individuals were trained to be effective warriors on land, sea, sky and stars. Their leader was, of course, Joel himself known as Sailor M (short for Mezalea) and he held the power of the weather, often employing the use of dry wind and mesa-like conditions to battle foes.

Fall of the Empires SMP 1

Unfortunately, no matter what was done, Xornoth and other events lead to the fall of the many empires. The Ocean Empire drained away as did the Cod Empire. The Grimlands was destroyed into an unsalvageable mess, House Blossom and Undergrove burned up, Rivendell ripped apart by an earthquake and the Lost Empire completely destroyed. Worst of all, Gilded Helianthia burned away and took its queen with it, killing Farmer Pearl whereas the rest survived. Only Pixandria was able to stand the destruction, but even it still fell eventually.

Before the oceans had drained, Lizzie was able to bind herself as the Life of Sirenix to a pearl which she placed in the heart of her empire alongside the Sirenix book. Once the oceans drained, she lost herself and with who she was, Sirenix was nearly lost, only surviving by the pearl which held the part of Lizzie now lost. As for the Solar Soldiers, they were killed and items scattered about. Even Joel was killed, though he would manage to be reincarnated devoid of memories soon after.

You need nice things? How about the image of Gem taking the dragon egg home and building the shrine for it, sitting next to it all night long and just staring into the beautiful purples and blacks of the shell as they reflect the starlight. How her eyes keep drifting shut and her head bobs, but she wakes up again just to smile at this egg -- Hope, that egg is Hope -- and think about how, even as terrible as this day was, something so lovely came out of it. Think about how her heart swells with a weird affection for the creature inside the egg, and how even though the mountain peak is cold and lonely and the wind seems to bite harder than it did before, she has a sense now that she isn't alone, not anymore. They're in this together, and they're going to fix things.

How the Hermits would measure the height of a building using a barometer

In an area of the geek/physicist crowd(at least the one my parents are in), there is a joke about how would you measure the height of a building with a barometer. Since a barometer measures air pressure, the sensical response is to measure the air pressure at the bottom and top of the building and find the difference. however, that crowd of people is rarely all that sensical. neither are the hermits. so without further ado, I present how(most) of the hermits would measure the height of a building. Using a barometer.

Xisuma: use the barometer for its intended purpose by measuring air pressure at the top and bottom of the building and compare the difference. sees no other possible way to do this until much after when he has to clean up after all the other hermits mad science and destruction of public property. 

Ethoslab: trade(scam someone) the relatively low quality barometer for much fancier measuring technology that is still not designed for measuring height. Re-engineer the new piece of technology to measure height and then measure the building.

Keralis: give someone the barometer in exchange for them measuring the building for him with a more practical instrument.

Stress: kindly offers to give some the barometer in exchange for them showing her the blueprints for the building.

Zedaph: drops the barometer off the top of the building and measures how long it takes it to hit the ground.

Tango: sells the barometer for Redstone materials. makes a robot to measure the height of the building for him.

Joe: climbs up the side of the building and measures it in barometers as he goes. writes some really good poetry about how the exercise told him a whole lot about life but was in the end pointless.

Grian: blows up the barometer. it is fun but does nothing to determine the height of the building. blows up the building. It is even more fun and makes it impossible to measure the building.

TFC: also measures the building properly with taking the measurement of the air pressure at the top and bottom and finding the difference. its the reasonable way to do things.

welsknight: trades the barometer for a tape measure and measures the building from the roof.

Geminitay: enchants the barometer to show her the height of anything she points it at and measures the building while riding a dragon.

Pearl: trades the barometer for a rope with a weight attached to the end and measures the building by how long it takes to haul it up the way sailors used to measure the depth of the ocean.

False: disassembles the barometer and uses the parts as materials to go on a heist and break into the building where the blueprints for the building are stored.

Cleo: kidnaps someone's loved ones and then threatens to beat the person to death with the barometer if they don't tell her the height of the building.

Doc: takes apart the barometer and uses the pieces to make a high power laser. measures how long it takes to make a indent going all the way down the building with the laser.

Cub: pawns the barometer off for progressively more expensive items till he owns the building including the blueprints.

iskall: builds a tree next to the building and measure it based on the height of the tree. completely lost the point of using the barometer.

ren: tries the method of dropping i and measuring the time, but everytime he tries to find a timekeeping device to measure the time it takes he just ends up with a device that while it was once a time keeping device doc has now turned into something completely different.

scar: tries to do the whole method of measuring it using finding pressure difference. he even pulls out old concorp drones to fly it up to the roof to get the upper measurement. unfortunately when he goes to do the math he discovers that the pressures he wrote down a few minutes ago are now basically unreadable as numbers and he would swear that they say ‘zoe east’(based of my own experiences of trying to read my own old handwriting as a dyslexic).

bdubs: trades the barometer for a clock and then uses his own speed at running up stairs to measure the height of the building.

impulse: gives the barometer to mumbo to figure it out with it who then gives it to grian who gives it to tango who gives it to zedaph who gives it back to impulse. he has no idea the height of the building but is working on a experiment to figure out who the hermits are most likely to hand off random tasks to.

Mumbo: is the unfortunate individual who everyone keeps bribing, scamming, trading with, and kidnapping to get the height of the building.

This one was long dead; Pearl could see it. Pearl could smell it. She could smell the death on this one. She could smell the rotting, putrid mess. She could smell it all.

As the ship softly travelled across the waves, under the watchful eye of its captain, Cleo looked out over the ocean. She looked at the sea, at the sky, at the fishes they passed. She took in the air, the wind, the Sun’s warmth. She almost felt…alive.
